White Anxiety, and a President Ready to Address It
Evidence of concern about demographic and cultural shifts is not new. What’s different is the willingness to politicize it openly.

… Surveys show fears among some white people that they are losing status in America, and those holding such views are increasingly aligned with the Republican Party. These voters perceive anti-white discrimination. A growing share say the nation risks losing its identity because of openness to foreigners. And many are concerned about what it will mean when non-Hispanic whites lose majority status, as demographic projections suggest will happen around 2045.
A large if not majority share of white voters, and a majority of Republicans, say this change will threaten American customs and values — a prospect that they say makes them anxious, even angry.
But without a politician of the president’s stature so vocally exploiting it, political scientists say, this lurking sense of white status loss would probably not be such a combustible theme in American politics.
“It really takes a Trump to ignite it,” said Michael Tesler, a political scientist at the University of California, Irvine….
Research is beginning to suggest that white voters who have long been politically motivated by their views of other groups may be starting to think of their own group as an explicit identity. In that sense, they appear for the first time in the Trump era to be thinking about themselves in ways that mirror how minorities have long thought about group identity.
But, of course, whites are Bad and nonwhites are Good, so this increased equality is Bad.
This isn’t complicated logic, people! Just remember at all times who was born with Bad Blood and you’ll be ready to write for the New York Times.
It wasn’t a foregone conclusion that American politics would end up here in 2019, with voters chanting to send a foreign-born American congresswoman back to Africa. A different politician at the top of the Republican Party — one focused, say, on tax cuts rather than immigrants — might have left these white racial anxieties more dormant, or less clearly linked with partisanship.

But these attitudes were often latent in electoral politics. More than a decade ago, a majority of less educated white voters did not perceive a major difference between the two parties on racial issues, according to Mr. Tesler’s research. And most campaigns weren’t overtly trying to disabuse them of that notion.
Now, some white voters, especially less educated ones, see a bigger difference between the two parties on racial issues.
Seriously, what actually happened was the Democrats moved way left during the Great Awokening of c. 2013.
“To me, the mystery is the speed with which what seemed to be a set of well-established norms crumbled,” Mr. Hopkins said. “How do you go from a Republican Party after 2012, which was very actively talking about courting Latino voters, to a Republican Party in 2016, which was doubling down on appeals to white voters?”

In this environment, polls show that a substantial number of white voters believe they face discrimination. They appear to be concerned that employers and schools may give preference to nonwhite candidates.
They don’t understand why cultural norms encourage nonwhite racial groups, but not white people, to openly identify with and celebrate their race. They might even resent that there’s no “white history” month, something that 29 percent of whites say they support.

I really noticed it this year. As MLK is in mid-January, so for all intensive purposes the first two months of the year, beginning just after you have shook off your NYE hangover, are a Celebration of All Things Black. And Pride was intensely promoted this year (50th anniversary of Stonewall).
The first half of the year is starting to seem like one long parade of Identity Politics, punctuated only by a few days in early spring when Easter Worshippers are allowed to dash in and make a quick and mostly un-welcome appearance.
Oh, and October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month with football players and women's NCAA teams rocking all the pink stuff
It will be interesting if DeBlasio’s campaign for president causes him to fire NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo for choking out Eric Garner back in 2014. Such firing is likely illegal, but the pressure is on, especially if DeBlasio wants to be the progressive voice in the Democratic Party. DeBlasio learned a hard political lesson his first year in office to not take on the NYPD, but since DeBlasio is term limited, maybe he moves against the police.

1. Garner refused to give up the cigarettes and physically resisted the cops. They have to physically subdue him. Yes, they really do.
2. He's a big guy, and he ain't going quietly. I would put him in a choke hold. If you wouldn't, you're a fool.
3. He wasn't choked to death. No, he wasn't. He died of a heart attack. The heart attack was not caused by the choke hold. It was caused by Garner fighting. All his fault.
4. A guy yelling "I can't breathe", is breathing. He wasn't killed for the crime of selling loosies. He wasn't killed at all. He was arrested for breaking the law. He was arrested forcibly because he resisted. He died of a heart attack brought on by his resistance, which is not being killed by the police.
And reduction in Black homicide deaths by street searches and prosecution of people who repeat the "hands up / don't shoot" lie. You're in favor of those, also, right?

The fact is that the immigration act of 1964 was passed with the informal assurance that it wouldn’t change America’s demographics.

Are they really serious when they say this or are they merely repeating religious dogma? How can anyone believe that nonsense in the wake of all the prevailing counter evidence? How can slavery account for black dysfunction so long after slavery across every public school district in the country – a country that was mostly non-slave holding? Some of that country is heavily democrat and left-wing but still they have problems. How does that make sense? How does this explain why Hispanics do better than blacks but worse than whites? Are whites discriminating against them, too? Is that the legacy of something or other? And if it is, how does it make sense for both Asians and Jews on average to do better than the average white in many metrics? Weren’t Jews holocausted? Wasn’t that more recent than slavery? The answer is obvious: it’s not our fault. Every statement to the contrary is racist dog whistling. Because, as I’ve pointed out before, if someone is being discriminated against, it logically follows that someone or something is doing the discriminating. That would be whites. Every time they use one of these racist phrases, a picture of a white pops up in the minds of the intended audience. It’s racist and they know it … and I’m sick of it.

My mid-sized southern city has so much real crime that cops actually look the other way over marijuana. I've jogged at a park and seen teenagers openly smoking it with a cop car about a hundred feet away in the parking lot. The cop had to have smelled it. It's defacto decriminalized unless you're near a school zone or are selling large volumes of it. Also in my college town cops looked the way over obvious underage drinking/large house parties. The worse they'd do would be to tell you to settle down some. No arrests. There are just some crimes that aren't as big of a deal as others.

As a rule, it's worked, and in all fairness, I have to say most of the cops I've dealt with have been professional most of the time.
Think of it as Russian roulette. With cops, you can't count on the cylinder being empty every time you pull the trigger. I've pulled it four or five times, so to speak. Eric Garner must have pulled it hundreds of times.
So Eric Garner finally got killed. Even if one could demonstrate that the police misbehaved in some way, his death was ultimately a consequence of Eric Garner's own behavior.
He must have been getting into it with the police once a week. That's not lifespan-enhancing behavior. Something like this was bound to happen eventually.
Right now women who can't work in the industrial economy (IQ<80, tend to marry the government) and have dysfunctional kids.

You don't want vendors of small items on the street, the more so since they'll tend to branch out into drugs etc. to boost their income.
OK, but where does that leave the under 85 IQ people? Remember, in racial groups with means in the mid-80s, an IQ of 75 or so doesn't mean the person has a high mutational load (but it does mean that for European or Han descended person), any more than the very low IQ of a lion means the lion has a high mutational load. The 70 IQ person doesn't have speech impediments, poor motor skills, or even ability to learn rote tasks.
Therefore, you have a very large population of functional people who (for reasons they can't understand, low cognitive ability, remember?) are rejected everywhere they try to work, given a small government check (or room and board in jail or prison). There is literally nothing for these people to do, and neither they nor their racial group is going to tolerate that. Political instability ensues.
In actual practice, the US has what Samuel R. Delaney called "unlicensed zones", places where illegal activities are, up to a point, permitted. The police keep the lid on, sort of, the low IQ people have something to strive at, and -- the situation is still intolerable for the people in the unlicenced zone, so that solution is unstable also.

You don't want vendors of small items on the street, the more so since they'll tend to branch out into drugs etc. to boost their income.
OK, but where does that leave the under 85 IQ people? Remember, in racial groups with means in the mid-80s, an IQ of 75 or so doesn't mean the person has a high mutational load (but it does mean that for European or Han descended person), any more than the very low IQ of a lion means the lion has a high mutational load. The 70 IQ person doesn't have speech impediments, poor motor skills, or even ability to learn rote tasks.
Therefore, you have a very large population of functional people who (for reasons they can't understand, low cognitive ability, remember?) are rejected everywhere they try to work, given a small government check (or room and board in jail or prison). There is literally nothing for these people to do, and neither they nor their racial group is going to tolerate that. Political instability ensues.
In actual practice, the US has what Samuel R. Delaney called "unlicensed zones", places where illegal activities are, up to a point, permitted. The police keep the lid on, sort of, the low IQ people have something to strive at, and -- the situation is still intolerable for the people in the unlicenced zone, so that solution is unstable also.

Believing that blacks struggle mostly because of lower average IQ is more likely to lead to compassion for them than believing it’s solely due to lack of hard work. My mid-sized southern city has so much real crime that cops actually look the other way over marijuana. I’ve jogged at a park and seen teenagers openly smoking it with a cop car about a hundred feet away in the parking lot. The cop had to have smelled it. It’s defacto decriminalized unless you’re near a school zone or are selling large volumes of it. Also in my college town cops looked the way over obvious underage drinking/large house parties. The worse they’d do would be to tell you to settle down some. No arrests. There are just some crimes that aren’t as big of a deal as others.

One of the Korean shopkeepers in the LA riots said that blacks’ problem was not a lack of intelligence but a lack of discipline.
However, JBJ shot that one down when he started bribing black couples to divorce. Blacks were diverted into being welfare dependent population boosts, with the smarter ones being lured into middle income jobs that demanded little and paid enough to live on in exchange for not protesting what was being done to the Black population.
Hard to say whether the Blacks would have done as well as the Irish eventually. On the one hand, there was a solid Black middle class that LBJ destroyed. Yeah -- but my expectations of cops are pretty low. It goes back to when I was very unreasonably held and questioned by a cop for three hours when I was six. Then twenty five years later I was abruptly thrown to the ground and handcuffed when I refused to answer a cop's questions.
So cops can be bad people. That's not news to me.
But here's the difference. Look at Eric Garner's record. He was actually arrested thirty times. He must have interacted with the police hundreds of times. I've interacted with the police maybe a dozen times in my life. I've actually been arrested once. I leave them alone, and (hopefully) they leave me alone. As a rule, it's worked, and in all fairness, I have to say most of the cops I've dealt with have been professional most of the time.
Think of it as Russian roulette. With cops, you can't count on the cylinder being empty every time you pull the trigger. I've pulled it four or five times, so to speak. Eric Garner must have pulled it hundreds of times.
So Eric Garner finally got killed. Even if one could demonstrate that the police misbehaved in some way, his death was ultimately a consequence of Eric Garner's own behavior.
He must have been getting into it with the police once a week. That's not lifespan-enhancing behavior. Something like this was bound to happen eventually.

My point here is that whether or not the cops behaved appropriately is in a sense secondary.
Every time you have an antagonistic interaction with a police officer -- or anyone -- there's a certain chance things will go sideways.
If Eric Garner had actually been arrested thirty times, he must have clashed with the police hundreds of times. So things finally went sideways. He died.
When most Whites who have limited life-experience with blacks think of an IQ of 80, they think of a person like the ‘tards they encountered as kids in school. I also recall a tv news confirmation from a congressman that the martial law threat had exercised a sufficient weight. The source of the threat…this needs research…but it may have been the T-Dept. So this may be a whiff of a clue for you.
And of course white Americans are encouraged to believe that blacks "struggle to get ahead" because of white racism, but we are never allowed to ask why Jews and Asians do better than whites.

Yeah -- but my expectations of cops are pretty low. It goes back to when I was very unreasonably held and questioned by a cop for three hours when I was six. Then twenty five years later I was abruptly thrown to the ground and handcuffed when I refused to answer a cop's questions.
So cops can be bad people. That's not news to me.
But here's the difference. Look at Eric Garner's record. He was actually arrested thirty times. He must have interacted with the police hundreds of times. I've interacted with the police maybe a dozen times in my life. I've actually been arrested once. I leave them alone, and (hopefully) they leave me alone. As a rule, it's worked, and in all fairness, I have to say most of the cops I've dealt with have been professional most of the time.
Think of it as Russian roulette. With cops, you can't count on the cylinder being empty every time you pull the trigger. I've pulled it four or five times, so to speak. Eric Garner must have pulled it hundreds of times.
So Eric Garner finally got killed. Even if one could demonstrate that the police misbehaved in some way, his death was ultimately a consequence of Eric Garner's own behavior.
He must have been getting into it with the police once a week. That's not lifespan-enhancing behavior. Something like this was bound to happen eventually.

My point here is that whether or not the cops behaved appropriately is in a sense secondary.
Every time you have an antagonistic interaction with a police officer — or anyone — there’s a certain chance things will go sideways.
