Straight director Nicholas Stoller asked gay actor-writer Billy Eichner for help creating a gay romantic comedy. Stoller discovered that gay male romance is not much like straight romance. From the New York Times arts and entertainment section:

Crafting a Rom-Com That’s True to 21st-Century Gay Life

Billy Eichner and the “Bros” team made news by casting queer actors, but they also focused on writing a story that didn’t recycle straight tropes.

By Alexis Soloski
May 18, 2022

… This was the final week of shooting for “Bros,” a romantic comedy written by Eichner and Stoller. The Universal Pictures film is a rare thing: a major studio comedy about queer characters, played by queer actors. It isn’t exactly the first major-studio gay rom-com, that rainbow laurel probably goes to 2018’s “Love Simon,” distributed by 20th Century Fox. And TriStar Pictures produced “Happiest Season,” a lesbian holiday rom-com, in 2020.

But “Bros,” which is set to open Sept. 30, is unusual — “historic” is the term [actor Billie] Eichner used — in that almost everyone in front of the camera and a lot of the people behind it identify as queer. Which means that the movie shoulders two responsibilities: to deliver a comedy as raucous and raunchy as fans of [straight director Nicholas] Stoller, and Judd Apatow, a producer, would expect, and to educate viewers, gay and straight, on the past and present of queer lives and relationships. …

… The seed for “Bros” began not with Eichner but with Stoller. A rom-com veteran (“Forgetting Sarah Marshall”), Stoller wanted to feature a romance between two men. But he knew he wasn’t the man to write it. Not alone, anyway.

“I’m the diversity hire,” Stoller, who is straight, told me.

He thought immediately of Eichner, whom he had worked with on “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising”…

Still, [Eichner] agreed to write “Bros.” Even though he worried he wouldn’t have anything to say. “I haven’t had many serious relationships in my adult life,” he said. “I’m not against them, I’m not an antirelationship person. It’s just not something that has happened to me.”

And then one night, a story began to suggest itself: two men, attracted to each other but both wary of commitment, especially as they grew up before same-sex marriage was legalized. Out and proud but also scared and self-doubting, Bobby stumbles toward a relationship with Aaron (Luke Macfarlane), a macho trusts and estates lawyer.

With a script outlined, the writers prepared to pitch the movie to Universal. Eichner never believed that a major studio would bite. But Donna Langley, the chairman of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, didn’t hesitate. To her it sounded like “a really funny movie and a really honest movie.”

That movie still had to be written, a process that Stoller likened to “a multiyear therapy session.” Because making a gay romantic comedy isn’t as simple as switching out an X chromosome here and there. So don’t expect “When Harry Met Harry.”

“That’s not reflective of how gay relationships function, at least the ones that my friends have, at least the ones that I’ve had,” Eichner said. “Gay men, in particular, we have our own rules, we have a certain way we behave.”

Honoring that behavior meant including plenty of sex scenes, some of them with three or four participants. (There’s also a very good joke about a gender reveal orgy.) It also meant educating Stoller on the sociology of gay male relationships.

“As a straight guy I didn’t know about a lot of this stuff,” Stoller admitted.

Eichner confirmed that. “I think he’d heard of Grindr,” Eichner said, referring to the gay dating app. “But I don’t think he fully understood it.”

Despite the Grindr and orgy particulars, [producer Judd] Apatow, another diversity hire, emphasized the story’s universal aspects. “We’re all seeking love,” he said. “And we’re all insecure. And we all have baggage and those are the issues which make for great comedy.”

But “Bros” couldn’t be just another comedy. As one of the first major releases of its kind, its creators felt a duty to instruct as well as entertain. Which explains why, after a pandemic delay, the production designers had transformed that Newark gallery into the L.G.B.T.Q. Legends Pavilion, its glass cases devoted to figures like James Baldwin, Gertrude Stein, the trans activist Sylvia Rivera and the nonbinary Native American artist We’wha.

This sounds like box office magic: in-between the gay orgy scenes, the audience gets instructed in gay pride history awareness.

    Spot on.

Homosexuals' lives are full of sound and fury signifying nothing.

It is precisely male/female difference--sexual dimorphism--that makes our romance interesting. Point and counterpoint. Yin and Yang. But it is much more than that. It is that male-female sexuality actually produces something--our future.

One thing that the last few years have done is "debunk" the efficient market hypothesis.

Or more precisely to show both its limitations short term and its subservience to the will of owners and the elite zeitgeist.

Corporations from Hollyweird, to the NFL, and to a lesser extent airlines, banking and consumer product companies have gone out of their way to poke their customers in the eye and do stuff almost customed designed to lose money. Driven by some combination of cowardice and even more pathetic elite virtue signaling.

America really needs to have its businesses run by actual loyal Americans. Basically every nation needs its businesses to be run by people of that nation, or at least of the same civilization and not hostile to the nation.

Wikipedia - Early Life. The correlation is remarkably high.
  4. The movie looks like it accurately describes a subset of the gay male population in large urban centres. But there are gay men in monogamous relationships or who don’t have sex all that much. But they don’t make for funny characters in an edgy R-rated rom com. And since Eichner sounds like’s very much in the “casual sex all the time” subset, it makes sense when he admits that most of his friends (who are probably also in that group of Grindr addicts) aren’t in typical “straight-like” relationships. People usually make friends with people like them.

It’s helpful to understand gay male sexuality if you really just view it as male sexuality. If straight men could download an app, send a dick pic to a beautiful woman and receive pics of her nether regions in return, and be having sex within a couple of hours, no wine n dine date, no payment, or even exchanging phone numbers necessary—a large proportion of straight men would be doing it daily. Women act as the arbiters of sex in straight world, and they don’t give it away nearly as easily.

Sex and the City was popular because it was a fantasy of women living their lives in NYC as if they were gay men, having tons of casual sex with multiple partners every other day without a care in the world.

If that's all straight men needed to do to have sex then there would be no cell phones, no internet, and no Grindr. Civilization exists because in order to have sex straight men have to rise to the occasion in more ways than just one.

Gays aren't just far more casual about sex because they're men, but also because for the most part they have written off the prospect of ever having children.

I know a gay couple, married for 38 years. The two old guys are very attached with each other. They like to play in thresome sex.
BTW, homosexuality permits some relationships, which aren’t able to occour in straight relationships. Gay men can develop strong friendships, like friendships between straight guys, which can last for many years. But with the sexual element, without any concern
    about exclusivity.
Many straight guys are envious of gay guys, because the easier sex. Nowadays, straight relationships are often so difficult and at disadvantage for the men.

I don't know- but I've heard that some apps work that way. Don't know that subculture, but it's between men & women, sending pictures of their "parts" & then screwing if they're geographically close.

I know an older gay guy who hates Philadelphia with a passion. The movie tries to convince the mainstream audience that "Gay people are just like us," but he doesn't want to be like us. He doesn't feel any need to seek the approval of the breeders. He's perfectly content being exactly what he is.

Someone said in another comment that gays live empty lives. And they do. Ultimately everything is reduced to the mechanical act of stuffing sticks in holes. Sticks in holes, sticks in holes, sticks in holes, in and out, day after day, year after year, decade after decade. Then you get old and despite your desperate efforts to hold on to your faded youth you get all loose and saggy. And then nobody gives a crap about you - not that they ever did. Then you shrivel up and die.

There are some gay guys who establish meaningful long-term relationships. But not many.

What's the baseline rate of factory and warehouse fires?

    Seriously.

Fire insurance costs more than $0.01 per year for a large warehouse or mfg facility, so the baseline rate must be non-trivially above zero.

How does the current rash of fires compare to a meaningfully high baseline?

I'm willing to entertain the possibility that something is amiss here, but I won't expend *that* much effort worrying about your pet concern without meaningful validation -- i.e. some kind of evidence showing that the recent fires in the news are substantially above the baseline trend.

One of the criteria for a [something we could call a "Murray," a cross-cultural achievement metric] should be that not only does it make you proud (eg, that your son achieved some high school benchmark), but that it logically ought to make anyone else proud. I don't know anything about football but it makes easy sense to me to be proud of a kid who expends effort and demonstrates discipline over time to acquire a skill in a competitive activity with consequences for slipping.
But then the point of turning everyone gendery isn't just to eliminate masculinity and thus eliminate dissent: it is to LBJ'ize everybody. We are to all be whiny negroes whose problems are caused by somebody else, but who rely for our income and self-worth on that same party. Being a pinkhair might not buy you the same spot on the progressive stack as a black welfare recipient, but Democrats clearly want the entire country to have that loser mindset.

It's long been rumored that Ronald and Nancy's son Ron, who performed with the Joffrey Ballet, is gay.

During the transition period after his father's election, a reporter asked Ron point-blank if he was gay, and he replied, "I find that amusing more than anything else." Within days, he married a female friend. They remained married for 34 years (until her death) but never had any kids. He has since married another woman.

Ronald Reagan had four children (two with Nancy; two with his first wife, Hollywood star Jane Wyman), but ended up with no biological grandchildren. Patti (Nancy's daughter) was rendered sterile by multiple abortions. Maureen (Jane's daughter) adopted a Ugandan girl. Michael (Jane's son) has two biological kids, but he was adopted.

Nancy shared a muutal loathing with Jane Wyman and treated her two stepchildren like a communicable disease. (Jane was a cruel and uncaring mother in her own right.) Nancy's relations with her own kids weren't much better.

During her father's second term, Patti wrote a couple of novels in which she fictionalized various episodes from her difficult childhood and adolescence.

Then Michael wrote an autobiography in which he described being sexually abused by a camp counselor at the age of eight. The counselor took photographs of him. Michael spent years living in mortal fear that the photographs would be released.

Nancy loved the book. Michael criticized his stepmother, but he painted a grotesque portrait of Jane Wyman as a cold, nasty, abusive bitch who lived only for her career and who spent more time on her poodles than on her kids.

Oh, wait, I'm infodumping again. So I'll close by saying that Ronald and Nancy had lots of gay friends.

Nancy refused to let Patti and her boyfriend sleep in the Lincoln Bedroom because they were living in sin. But she allowed her interior decorator to sleep with his boyfriend there because he was donating his services for free. (She rarely paid for anything, and she never paid retail.)

Michael Medved makes one good point every five years (check out his Thanksgiving lecture, which ought to be an annual institution like It's A Wonderful Life was for Christmas in the cable tv era) and he pointed out amid the 90s indie craze that a lot of "gay" cinema was objectively crappy at a basic craft level. Far from rebutting him, there was a conscious effort to correct this in order to achieve mainstream credibility and influence (I Shot Andy Warhol, Boys Don't Cry, American Beauty, Brokeback Mountain), but since the national coming-out in the 2000s, standards immediately went straight back down (JibJab, CalArts and that sloppy lazy but universal style which makes everything look fat and slimy), and not by coincidence.

That’s a lot worse than Covid. However, since its symptoms are more obvious, isolation may help contain it.

If gays unleash another plague on the population, they’re going to lose their popularity among young liberals very fast. There is evidence that HIV deaths were from lethal medications, not from the disease. Monkeypox is different. It does just kill you outright. However, since it’s a virus, I wonder if Ivermectin can stop it. (Could Ivermectin have prevented smallpox?) I’d rather not see another pigheaded libtard war about Ivermectin, but we may get it.

It’s long been rumored that Ronald and Nancy’s son Ron, who performed with the Joffrey Ballet, is gay.

During the transition period after his father’s election, a reporter asked Ron point-blank if he was gay, and he replied, “I find that amusing more than anything else.” Within days, he married a female friend. They remained married for 34 years (until her death) but never had any kids. He has since married another woman.

Ronald Reagan had four children (two with Nancy; two with his first wife, Hollywood star Jane Wyman), but ended up with no biological grandchildren. Patti (Nancy’s daughter) was rendered sterile by multiple abortions. Maureen (Jane’s daughter) adopted a Ugandan girl. Michael (Jane’s son) has two biological kids, but he was adopted.

Nancy shared a muutal loathing with Jane Wyman and treated her two stepchildren like a communicable disease. (Jane was a cruel and uncaring mother in her own right.) Nancy’s relations with her own kids weren’t much better.

During her father’s second term, Patti wrote a couple of novels in which she fictionalized various episodes from her difficult childhood and adolescence.

Oh, wait, I’m infodumping again. So I’ll close by saying that Ronald and Nancy had lots of gay friends.

Nancy refused to let Patti and her boyfriend sleep in the Lincoln Bedroom because they were living in sin. But she allowed her interior decorator to sleep with his boyfriend there because he was donating his services for free. (She rarely paid for anything, and she never paid retail.)

    ???

Jane Wyman had had a peculiar upbringing with multiple instances of people cutting out on her or treating her harshly. She was self-supporting from the age of 16 (in the midst of the Depression). She expected a level of resilience and self-reliance from her children that most people do not at given ages. Retrospectively, they were not bitter about it. There was enough friction that Michael asked to live with his father, something to which she acceded. The one thing Maureen had to say was that their mother was in character a great deal at home and this added an unpredictable quality to their home life. She wasn't Joan Crawford.

Nancy Reagan did not approve of Jane Wyman's approach to child-rearing and particularly disapproved of her use of boarding schools for Michael. She and her husband considered seeking custody of him in 1952 but decided the dispute would do more harm than good.

In Michael Reagan's account, his mother and his step-mother each had a catty attitude toward the other. In Edmund Morris description (and in her own words), Nancy carried around a grudge about how Jane Wyman had treated RR before they were married and in the process of their divorce. (Lyn Nofziger described Nancy as 'sensitive about Jane'). This is fairly unspectacular familial friction. (I've see it in my own family between sisters-in-law).

What actually is odd about the Reagan family is that it's a puzzle how his children earned a living (Michael the partial exception).

One of the criteria for a [something we could call a “Murray,” a cross-cultural achievement metric] should be that not only does it make you proud (eg, that your son achieved some high school benchmark), but that it logically ought to make anyone else proud. I don’t know anything about football but it makes easy sense to me to be proud of a kid who expends effort and demonstrates discipline over time to acquire a skill in a competitive activity with consequences for slipping.
But then the point of turning everyone gendery isn’t just to eliminate masculinity and thus eliminate dissent: it is to LBJ’ize everybody. Far from rebutting him, there was a conscious effort to correct this in order to achieve mainstream credibility and influence (I Shot Andy Warhol, Boys Don’t Cry, American Beauty, Brokeback Mountain), but since the national coming-out in the 2000s, standards immediately went straight back down (JibJab, CalArts and that sloppy lazy but universal style which makes everything look fat and slimy), and not by coincidence.

The movie looks like it accurately describes a subset of the gay male population in large urban centres. But there are gay men in monogamous relationships or who don't have sex all that much. But they don't make for funny characters in an edgy R-rated rom com. And since Eichner sounds like's very much in the "casual sex all the time" subset, it makes sense when he admits that most of his friends (who are probably also in that group of Grindr addicts) aren't in typical "straight-like" relationships. People usually make friends with people like them.

It's helpful to understand gay male sexuality if you really just view it as male sexuality. If straight men could download an app, send a dick pic to a beautiful woman and receive pics of her nether regions in return, and be having sex within a couple of hours, no wine n dine date, no payment, or even exchanging phone numbers necessary---a large proportion of straight men would be doing it daily. Women act as the arbiters of sex in straight world, and they don't give it away nearly as easily.

Sex and the City was popular because it was a fantasy of women living their lives in NYC as if they were gay men, having tons of casual sex with multiple partners every other day without a care in the world.

If that’s all straight men needed to do to have sex then there would be no cell phones, no internet, and no Grindr. Civilization exists because in order to have sex straight men have to rise to the occasion in more ways than just one.

Gays aren’t just far more casual about sex because they’re men, but also because for the most part they have written off the prospect of ever having children.

The popularity of gay culture in America is a mile wide and an inch deep. Most people - even liberal white ladies and younger generations, two groups who are both supposedly more openminded on the subject - are disgusted by the actual details of gay relationships and prefer not to think about it too deeply.

For the vast majority of Americans, it has been blasted into their heads to say the right things about "tolerance" and "equality" and what not, and polling results reflect that, but as soon as the subject gets beyond "love is love" tropes and into the weeds of physical contact and actual sexual relations, the natural disgust reflex kicks in.

Even those furtive gay kisses crammed into diamond commercials nowadays don't poll too well, they're just there as a propaganda shield for the corporate advertiser to defend itself against future rabble rousing.

So, to your point, I cannot imagine there being ANY mass market appeal for this kind of stuff. I'm fairly certain the entire project, including the "diversity hires" are there to provide propaganda shields for themselves, too.

People will vote for virtue signaling politicians the way they think they are supposed to and they will say all the right things in public, but when it comes down to it, they won't spend their money to see it in action.

I do love her, but I didn’t choose to love her. It just happens. If I could choose, I would continue skirt-chasing. “Love” is something that happens by accident or through effort because of the different needs and desires of men and women. I haven't found any minimally reliable references to the effect that Donna Langley is Jewish. Here is some information about her origins, from a 2015 Hollywood Reporter piece:

She’s been open before about having been adopted. Her biological mother was English and her father Egyptian. She used to pretend that her birth father was Omar Sharif but says she never felt a need to locate either of her birth parents. Her adoptive father spent most of his career designing radar systems for Great Britain’s Civil Aviation Authority, while her adoptive mother was an activist who did volunteer work in foster care. Langley says her mother read about an adoption agency in London that specialized in placing children of mixed parentage and set out to meet the woman who ran it. That’s when she encountered her future daughter, then about a year old.

Historically, the normal mode of homosexuality has always been the non-permanent pairing of a much older and a much younger male; monogamous lifetime relationships involving men of similar age is aberrant, and the modern expectation of it is essentially a propaganda coup brought off by Aaron Sorkin and a handful of others, very recently. This you now realize is why the British used “pæderast” (“pedophile,” in American) to mean “homosexual.” Because they were pedophiles. If it wasn’t for society recognizing the value of responsible childrearing, and the growth of religion, this model would probably represent heterosexuality as well.

Monkeypox is raising a fuss in certain quarters because although the smallpox vaccine helps confer immunity to it, most people under 50 have never had the smallpox vaccine. The death rate from monkeypox can be around 10%. Mortality among children in Africa is 10-15%.

That's a lot worse than Covid. However, since its symptoms are more obvious, isolation may help contain it.

I haven’t found any minimally reliable references to the effect that Donna Langley is Jewish.

The popularity of gay culture in America is a mile wide and an inch deep. Most people – even liberal white ladies and younger generations, two groups who are both supposedly more openminded on the subject – are disgusted by the actual details of gay relationships and prefer not to think about it too deeply.

For the vast majority of Americans, it has been blasted into their heads to say the right things about “tolerance” and “equality” and what not, and polling results reflect that, but as soon as the subject gets beyond “love is love” tropes and into the weeds of physical contact and actual sexual relations, the natural disgust reflex kicks in.

Even those furtive gay kisses crammed into diamond commercials nowadays don’t poll too well, they’re just there as a propaganda shield for the corporate advertiser to defend itself against future rabble rousing.

So, to your point, I cannot imagine there being ANY mass market appeal for this kind of stuff. I’m fairly certain the entire project, including the “diversity hires” are there to provide propaganda shields for themselves, too.

People will vote for virtue signaling politicians the way they think they are supposed to and they will say all the right things in public, but when it comes down to it, they won’t spend their money to see it in action.

BTW, homosexuality permits some relationships, which aren’t able to occour in straight relationships. Gay men can develop strong friendships, like friendships between straight guys, which can last for many years. But with the sexual element, without any concern
    about exclusivity.

It's impossible for straight guys to envy gay guys because of "easier sex". Because it's impossible for gay guys to have sex with each other in the first place. What gay men do with each other is not sex. That's why we used to use a different word for it, namely sodomy. Calling sodomy "sex" doesn't make it so, anymore than calling a man who wears a dress a woman makes him a woman.

This implies that gay men are all sitting around doing nothing but scraping by and hooking up. Lots of gay men are very hard workers and it’s not just old ugly guys who want to play sugar daddy. In a similar vein, lots of straight men work hard for reasons beyond the need to impress women. Many men love their jobs and work hard long after marital sex gets stale and the kids are grown.

    ...
Kek, I just noticed that the budget for the "gays do nothing, in a room, for two hours" movie is more than twice the budget for the "following a guy's whole life including prison and drug dealing" movie, and the latter made much more. Movies are a scam, The Limits of Control was just honest about it.

Moonlight, Call Me By Your Name amd Brokeback Mountain all deal with closeted, secretive relationships. That stuff can be interesting.

But there is no market for “out and proud” gays who have promiscuous group sex but slowly start to fantasize about a life of pseudo-commitment to each other.

I think even promiscuous, openly gay men would overwhelmingly prefer to pass on that.

A few years ago, I thought the goal of gay "marriage" was as sort of a backdoor (no pun intended) to getting their lifestyle and relationships sanctioned and approved by the mainstream.

Now I'm more of the mind that rather than gain the sanction and approval that has eluded them, they instead just want to tear down the society and the institutions that provide that reward and have it taken away from everyone.

If straight men could download an app, send a dick pic to a beautiful woman and receive pics of her nether regions in return, and be having sex within a couple of hours, no wine n dine date, no payment, or even exchanging phone numbers necessary—a large proportion of straight men would be doing it daily.

If that's all straight men needed to do to have sex then there would be no cell phones, no internet, and no Grindr. Civilization exists because in order to have sex straight men have to rise to the occasion in more ways than just one.

  88. This sounds like a first rate cinematic triumph… is it too soon to talk “Oscar”?
    Probably.
I guess being flooded with gay, minority, mixed couple commercials and television wasn’t enough.
My suggestion- after this piece of garbage totally flops, and I suspect it will be legendary flop, they should re-work the ending, where they both get murdered in a black on white, anti-gay hate crime/robbery gone wrong; with Tarantino style violence. Like 15 minutes of brutal, graphic, obscene torture and violence. Think Tarantino meets Manson, meets Ed Gein, meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre, meets Hannibal Lector, meets Brokeback Mountain!
That just might make it watchable, but of course, I’ll never know, because I, like many others, will never watch this crap.
Besides, these queers are behind the times, Gays, Lesbians, Normal Queers, are so yesteryear… now it’s all about the Tranny-queers.
They should do something like “girl, who thinks she’s a dude, hooks up with guy, that thinks he’s a girl, and they date while going thru their transition operations, each becoming infected, and also, catching aids, while they struggle with queerdom and insanity, severe drug abuse, and then kill each other in a twisted murder-suicide, afterward, the police struggle to identify their weirdly mutilated bodies, both devoid of any identifiable sex organs, but covered with scars, open wounds, and infected pustules, and maybe they find a gay, dead, cross-dressing african immigrant in their freezer”
    Yes, THAT’S Oscar worthy!!

Or more precisely to show both its limitations short term and its subservience to the will of owners and the elite zeitgeist.

I think the Industrial Revolution, the Green Revolution, and continuing incredible gains in productivity have given us lots of "play."

You can be a completely dissolute, alcoholic loser and collect your SSDI and not starve to death. You can manufacture an absolute s*** product, convince a few million suckers to buy it, and cash out your Ponzi scheme-company and be set for life.

I see people driving late-model cars all over the place, like everyone's making $200,000 a year or something. In an "efficient" market, none of these phenomena would be happening. It's actually "hyper-efficient": the net-producers have gotten so good, they can generate historically unprecedented high living standards for billions of net-consumers without breaking a sweat.

I don't think it's sustainable. I think the takers inevitably outnumber the makers until even the AI and mechanized processes invented by the makers can't keep up. But this party can go on for quite some time.

Most of them - 99% of them - just want easy sex without any kind of commitment. That's literally the culture and why most of them choose* it. If that's not what they wanted, they'd just choose to be straight and marry a woman, anyway.

Marriages can obviously be "open" but marriage - even gay marriage - is at least supposed to be about commitment, and, legally, even if you live apart and are banging strangers all on your own, you're still tied together financially (taxes) and socially. Lots of gay dudes - I know at least two separate ones (not a couple) who got excited in the heat of the moment and "married" their boyfriend and then had second thoughts and ended up divorced. Both of them explained that settling down with another person - man or woman - wasn't what they wanted out of life.

Lesbians, on the other hand, especially older lesbians, don't do this, FWIW, for obvious biological reasons. Just another difference between men and women that doesn't actually exist, bigot.

This just gets back to the "tear down normal" argument. Dudes generally don't want to get married and play house, but most of them support the idea for no other reason than because merely being allowed to do so is transgressive and a stick in the eye of most of the rest of civilization.

  100. For a drama or even a rom-com, there has to be dramatic tension. Conflict and resolution.

In some respects the old 30s era classics would do that at times with “does he or doesn’t she?” type of questions and mixed messaging.

Now with few social barriers (or legal) it isn’t very dramatic to use gays/lesbians who just do “normal” stuff.

It may attract a gay audience if it is actually funny with the farce type mix-ups or “signals” conflicts.

But the gay part of that may just kill the “tension.” If the audience already knows gays are the cast, what’s the point? “Top or bottom?”

The only possible plot might be something like, a gay guy has to go to “straight camp” and becomes a religious straight family guy. And the straight camp “director” comes out of the closet. Even that seems cliched.

If no one ever gets “no” for an answer, how do you have relatable dramatic tension? Even in formula young guy/girl bro films, the hotties have to start off by playing hard to get.

Also, “gay cinema” probably won’t sell to females (even lesbians) or most POCs. Only the White Left Wokies are openly pro gay in terms of lifestyle.

Ticket sales in flyover country will be few and far between.

The last bus movie I saw was starring a little guy who used to be on Saturday night live.

The plot was that he was going to be sent to prison for tax evasion, but first he was given 6 months to put his affairs in order.

To prepare for prison, he at first decided to have his wife f*** him in the ass with a dildo, but then he had a martial arts maestro to teach him how to be a natural killer. By the time he reported to prison he was able to punch a hole in a brick wall with one finger.

As soon as he got into prison, he sought out the biggest and baddest black guys and beat the s*** out of them. He then forbade rap music in the prison, and only allowed the inmates to listen to mariachi bands.

I can't remember the rest of it... But what utter crap. I suppose it would appeal to 13-year-old boys. Hard to believe that somebody probably put up millions of dollars to make the movie.

The only point to gay marriage is to make the institution distasteful for normies.

As for children, gays raising children is meant to demoralize normies. Saw an ad for a major hotel chain recently where a male homosexual couple check in carrying a sleeping boy and the desk clerk smiles at them like a dingbat, hands them their key and fondly watches them walk off down the hall. During the transition period after his father's election, a reporter asked Ron point-blank if he was gay, and he replied, "I find that amusing more than anything else." Within days, he married a female friend. They remained married for 34 years (until her death) but never had any kids. He has since married another woman.

Nancy shared a muutal loathing with Jane Wyman and treated her two stepchildren like a communicable disease. (Jane was a cruel and uncaring mother in her own right.) Nancy’s relations with her own kids weren’t much better.

Nancy loved the book. Michael criticized his stepmother, but he painted a grotesque portrait of Jane Wyman as a cold, nasty, abusive bitch who lived only for her career and who spent more time on her poodles than on her kids.

She wasn’t Joan Crawford.

Nancy Reagan did not approve of Jane Wyman’s approach to child-rearing and particularly disapproved of her use of boarding schools for Michael. She and her husband considered seeking custody of him in 1952 but decided the dispute would do more harm than good.

In Michael Reagan’s account, his mother and his step-mother each had a catty attitude toward the other. In Edmund Morris description (and in her own words), Nancy carried around a grudge about how Jane Wyman had treated RR before they were married and in the process of their divorce. (Lyn Nofziger described Nancy as ‘sensitive about Jane’). This is fairly unspectacular familial friction. (I’ve see it in my own family between sisters-in-law).

What actually is odd about the Reagan family is that it’s a puzzle how his children earned a living (Michael the partial exception).

Jane Wyman initiated the marriage *and* the divorce. She was so desperate to get Ronnie to marry her that she swallowed a bunch of sleeping pills. (He proposed to her in her hospital room.) After the wedding she quickly grew bored with him, but by that time he had become infatuated with her. He carried a torch for her long after the divorce was finalized.

Nancy got the last laugh in the end, though.

As an aside, Jane Wyman was unrecognizable at the age of 84, whereas Nancy still looked somewhat like her old self at 94.

The game took the players from the year 2020 to 2030.

It’s impossible for straight guys to envy gay guys because of “easier sex”. Because it’s impossible for gay guys to have sex with each other in the first place. What gay men do with each other is not sex. That’s why we used to use a different word for it, namely sodomy. Calling sodomy “sex” doesn’t make it so, anymore than calling a man who wears a dress a woman makes him a woman.

When you think about it, the whole Oscars thing is an enormous racket.

The film industry needs to produce about five movies per year that are vaguely socially interesting or kind of dealing with serious contemporary themes so that they can be nominated for Oscars.

You can almost guarantee that within the next few years there will be some kind of movie about a woman who changes her ID to a male ID and overcomes all odds to become the second woman to win an Olympic gold medal in the decathlon as a man.

It will win the Oscar for best makeup.

Meanwhile the remaining 99.5% of movies produced are complete and utter dross and meaningless nonsense that cannot amuse the average bus or airplane passenger for more than 10 minutes.

I read somewhere that homosexuals have higher divorce rates than heterosexuals.

It's only logical when you think about it.

*Urges and inclinations might not be controllable, but engaging in a sexual act and embracing a lifestyl8, whether straight or gay, is 100% controllable and therefore is a conscious choice. The rejection of that principle and removing all agency for all actions has been a terrible mistake in western society.

    Replies: @Ghost of Bull Moose

The only point to gay marriage is to make the institution distasteful for normies.

As for children, gays raising children is meant to demoralize normies.

The obvious idea for a gay romance movie would be a Glenn Greenwald biopic: How Glenn Got His Groove Back. Goes on an extended vacation to Rio, meets a young man from a favela, and now they’re happily gay married with kids and dogs and his pardo hubby is a congressman.

Checks all the boxes. I’m guessing the reason it hasn’t been made is that Hollywood doesn’t like Glenn constantly calling out Democrats for being warmongers and liars instead of serving their voters.

So true. The possibilities are endless.

GG would have to be played by somebody who looks & talks a little straighter, but David Miranda could play himself.

If gays unleash another plague on the population, they're going to lose their popularity among young liberals very fast. There is evidence that HIV deaths were from lethal medications, not from the disease. Monkeypox is different. It does just kill you outright. However, since it's a virus, I wonder if Ivermectin can stop it. (Could Ivermectin have prevented smallpox?) I'd rather not see another pigheaded libtard war about Ivermectin, but we may get it.

I don’t know- but I’ve heard that some apps work that way. Don’t know that subculture, but it’s between men & women, sending pictures of their “parts” & then screwing if they’re geographically close.

The movie will be a flop. Here’s a secret, that has been hiding in plain sight for generations, Gays are boring.

I think the Industrial Revolution, the Green Revolution, and continuing incredible gains in productivity have given us lots of “play.”

You can be a completely dissolute, alcoholic loser and collect your SSDI and not starve to death. You can manufacture an absolute s*** product, convince a few million suckers to buy it, and cash out your Ponzi scheme-company and be set for life.

I see people driving late-model cars all over the place, like everyone’s making \$200,000 a year or something. In an “efficient” market, none of these phenomena would be happening. It’s actually “hyper-efficient”: the net-producers have gotten so good, they can generate historically unprecedented high living standards for billions of net-consumers without breaking a sweat.

I don’t think it’s sustainable. I think the takers inevitably outnumber the makers until even the AI and mechanized processes invented by the makers can’t keep up. But this party can go on for quite some time.

    Thanks for the misinformation.

It’s too bad Glenn (and Mr.Sailer), along with GOP leadership, refuses to promote law and order and the rule of law in light of revelations of several Trump war rooms on insurrection eve and outright coverup and lies by Republicans regarding January 6.

Yeah or maybe it's just another fire happening in an arid region that is heavily populated by people whose ancestors evolved in continental and tropical climates. Don't be such a conspiratorial idiot.

And in what alternate reality is Arizona a critical food distribution hub? Arizona is a food importer not an exporter.
