Ezra Klein is trying to warn Democrats during the George Floyd Memorial Orgies that the huge increase in shootings over the last year does not bode well for Democratic politicians:

Ezra’s word “spiking” implies that violent crime will eventually go down as fast as it went up.

That would be nice, but so far there’s no evidence of the second part of “spiking” is happening. Instead, increase in shootings looks more like a plateau. Here’s my graph of Gun Violence Archive data of all the gun murders in 2019 (blue) and 2020 (red).

Yet, the most extraordinary fact of 2020 is that for the seven-plus months from George Floyd’s death to the end of the year, the United States averaged 50.5 murders per day, up 41% from the 35.7 per day during the same long period in 2019. The consistency of the gap between 2020 and 2019 during the Racial Reckoning is striking.

You are probably as sick as I am of hearing journalists proclaim this or that to be the New Normal. Let’s hope that fifty murders per day during the warmer months is not Anti-Racist America’s new normal.

The only way to reduce and mitigate, even modestsly, the increases and explosion of shootings and murders and violence in scores of large cities after the "murder" of saint George is to enact policies such as "stop" and frisk" and sentence far more black males to prison for longer periods of time. But that won't happen, of course, given the zeitgeisst, so the pandemic of violence will stay more or less the same or grow far worse in the future as black males are increasingly coddled and indulged by a criminal injusstice system controlled, almost exclusively, by blacks and their white leftist sychopants, enablers, and apologists -those who are even arrested, indicted, prosecuted, and convicted.

  2. Some people may have paid their rent with stimulus payments, but from my own personal observation, a lot of them bought pizza and guns instead.

I am not so sure the George Floyd Memorial Slaughter is so bad for the Democrats. The well-to-do liberal whites do not care about slum blacks. They are a club with which to beat conservatives, nothing more. There are far fewer undecided voters than there were in (say) 1991. Most voters have chosen a party. Even people who say they are independents typically always vote R or D.

Americans overall are much less patriotic than in 1990. The number of people who see the slum blacks murdering one another and say ‘my goodness gracious! Such wanton murderousness in the United States of America! I simply must vote for the other party!’ is tiny. Remember how conservatives got all ticked off that the non-whites were rioting in a Great American City for Rowdy Roddy King? Remember anyone getting all hot and bothered during FloydFest? Nope. We have checked out of considering inwards people, much less Americans. We don’t see Blue cities or states as Ours in a way that they need to be defended. I don’t much want scarce tax dollars spent in the slums. There are real people who could benefit from that money.

Even if there were a whole bunch of conservatives with their panties in a bunch over Democrats murdering each other, so what? There is no more silent majority. Whites are half of Americans. The blacks will never vote Republican in any number large enough to sway a big city election. They cannot self-correct politically. Inky blue-black cities are that way until the Collapse comes.

    Your "nation" on minoritarianism.

Basically the model of our anti-nationalist minoritarian "elite" is the Roman Empire: A hodgepodge of random peoples bossed around by a super-state creating a vast market for looting.

The Ohio Effect. That state is very mountainous in the southeast, but the high point is on the great plateau near Bellefontaine.

It’s home to a trade school, and before that,

Before Ohio Hi-Point existed, the campus was home to the 664th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron of the United States Air Force.

Established in 1951 during the Cold War, the radar facility monitored the skies at the highest point in Ohio as part of the nation’s Air Defense Forces. After the base was phased out in 1969, Logan County educators established Ohio Hi-Point JVS and opened its doors to students in 1974 after voters approved a levy, offering six programs to students.

Democrats don’t care about real votes. They will just manufacture fake ones. Real voters no longer count any more than real money has value when counterfeiters are at work, unhindered. Control of major urban areas are essential and murders and homelessness are a plus.

Politicians in urban areas (Dems all) WANT AND NEED SKY HIGH MURDERS. And also Homelessness.

The way it works, for those clueless boomer civ nats still clinging to America as anything other but a dead and forever vanished nation, is that murder and homeless squalor drive out decent people, corporations, and other civic leaders who might provide oversight on block grants. Election day, pallets of ballots are “discovered” and there are no decent people left to throw them out as phony. Besides, “racism” or something. Then block grants which are given to relatives and cronies of the political leaders with healthy kick backs. No different than Ukraine, Uzbekistan, or Belorussia. This of course can and will be expanded to places like Venice, Newport Beach, etc.

Crime and violence are winners for Dems. They always have been, always will be. Eventually a giant murder wave will crest over into the suburbs and that will the excuse — to round up Whites on the grounds that some resist, and send them to work camps forever. To be released when they are near death like in China. The dream of Davos. Also the Democratic Party.

Bottom line, a sensible, mono ethnic society like Japan or China (mostly) or South Korea is very hard to create massive grifts and looting on a continental scale. Corruption is rife all those places, but there are hard limits to the amount and scale that can be grifted principally when it threatens social peace. In Japan the threat is militarism and ultra nationalism coming again, in South Korea Communism, and in China peasant revolts under the guise of Secret Societies and Ultra Communism. There are no threats in the US so its crime away.

Eventually the murder rate in the US will be in excess of Haiti and Venezuela and Mexico. And for the elite, that’s a good thing.

Excellent post as usual thanks. City of Los Angeles plans to spend hundreds of millions more on services for the homeless. Not housing their most absolute need but services provided by blacks, immigrants and a few Whites with exceptional hustling and grifting skills.

Millions spent and offices filled with counselors consultants, coordinators and consolidators but no construction workers to build housing.

I was looking at really attractive manufactured homes today. There was a 680 sq ft one bedroom house. Little porch in front and back. Another bedroom and it would be the cute little bungalows built by the millions in the 20 th century. A California company so not far to ship.
Cost 66K for the little house.

City county and state own plenty of empty land. I’m thinking Baldwin Hills state park near the airport Still a black neighborhood is a perfect location. Free land, 66K little houses 16 to an acre, sewers and utilities installed. Native plant gardens aka bushes grass and attractive weeds are already there.

Instead of paying SJW grifters to consult and consolidate for another 40 years build projects for the homeless. A Walmart and big 99 cent store for all the residents needs. Little branch library for computers and to hang out. Maybe a minibus service twice a week for shopping. There’s miles of parkland for walking and hanging out.

    Never happen.

Out-of-control crime and vagrancy are specific tactics to demoralize and degrade the quality of life of normal people, making it more expensive and dangerous to live and less affordable to have more than 1 or 2 kids. It's part of the slow-motion displacement of the normal by the abnormal, overseen by the leftist elites.

  16. But it’s also a crisis for the broader liberal project in two downstream ways.

What is this “liberal project” and how is it related to Pol Pot’s rejuvenation drive?

First, violent crimes supercharges inequality. Families who can flee, do. Business close or never open. Banks won’t make loans. Property values plummet. Children are traumatized, with lifelong impacts on stress and cognition.

Of course, only the “black side” of the equation is considered worth of worry.

Nothing that cannot be fixed by sheer legislation:

    – It will become illegal for families to flee (or there will be massive shipping to the new sanctuary).
    – It will become illegal for businesses to close.
    – You must give loans to every comer (and the state will guarantee so that banks are happy; already happened bigly in the 00’s as I remember)
    – Property values shall not plummet or it’s jailtime for “dumping”.
    – These will be white children, so care-o-meter will be low.

In a generous mood, Ezra is willing to consider extenuating circumstances in thinking about near-future White Flight. But the Flighters won't have their hall passes, so they will still have to be suspended (if not expelled) from polite society. The rules of systemic racism may be bent, but not broken.

When neighborhood change is a topic in real life, I'll contribute a remark or two about the ethnic cleansing being discussed. Many regular Democrats and Republicans recognize the term, something to do with Serbio-Croatans forcing Herzegovinio-Bosnio-Muslims out of their homes, which was bad.

The Biden-Harris Administration's policies encourage fresh rounds of ethnic cleansing, here at home. I wonder, could that somehow be bad?

Steve convinced me that the approach of building housing for the poor doesn't work. Build much better housing for the wealthy and upper middle class, and they'll move out of older well-built middle class housing. That becomes the new low-income housing.

Bed-Stuy and West Harlem in New York are two examples of neighborhoods of solely-built middle class housing that were subdivided for poorer blacks last century. The housing stock was robust enough to stand up, and now both areas are being returned to single-family townhouses. Selling for millions. And West Harlem is majority white.

But it’s also a crisis for the broader liberal project in two downstream ways.

What is this "liberal project" and how is it related to Pol Pot's rejuvenation drive?

First, violent crimes supercharges inequality. Families who can flee, do. Business close or never open. Banks won’t make loans. Property values plummet. Children are traumatized, with lifelong impacts on stress and cognition.

Of course, only the "black side" of the equation is considered worth of worry.

Nothing that cannot be fixed by sheer legislation:

    - It will become illegal for families to flee (or there will be massive shipping to the new sanctuary).
    - It will become illegal for businesses to close.
    - You must give loans to every comer (and the state will guarantee so that banks are happy; already happened bigly in the 00's as I remember)
    - Property values shall not plummet or it's jailtime for "dumping".
    - These will be white children, so care-o-meter will be low.

In a generous mood, Ezra is willing to consider extenuating circumstances in thinking about near-future White Flight. But the Flighters won’t have their hall passes, so they will still have to be suspended (if not expelled) from polite society. The rules of systemic racism may be bent, but not broken.

When neighborhood change is a topic in real life, I’ll contribute a remark or two about the ethnic cleansing being discussed. Many regular Democrats and Republicans recognize the term, something to do with Serbio-Croatans forcing Herzegovinio-Bosnio-Muslims out of their homes, which was bad.

The Biden-Harris Administration’s policies encourage fresh rounds of ethnic cleansing, here at home. I wonder, could that somehow be bad?

  25. Anon[157] • Disclaimer says:

If the left in cities shifts more to the right, I don’t think it’s the crime rate that’s going to do it. The shootings are still mostly confined to black neighborhoods. White liberals can ignore them.

If anything, it’s going to be the homeless problem that drives white liberals crazy. The homeless encampments that take up the entire sidewalk for blocks and their filth are a far greater nuisance to the average city dweller, and they’re harder to ignore and physically avoid.

Those homeless encampments are not in black ghettos, but in business districts, and they’re turning business districts into no-go zones. The blacks who live in ghettos would beat up the homeless and rob them and go all territorial on their asses if the homeless were living in a tent right on the doorstep of the average black ghetto dweller.

  26. Democrat governors have set in motion, not a spike in crime, but a new plateau it will be difficult to get off of. The release of tens of thousands of prison inmates ostensibly to reduce covid infections guarantees more crime even if there were ‘law and order’ district attorneys in high crime cities and adequately funded police departments operating under pre George Floyd rules. Since we have neither the newly released ex cons will have carte blanche to prey on the public. Worse still, you can bet Gavin Newsome and Andrew Cuomo will not include increased prison capacity in their infrastructure plans so there will be no capacity to re-arrest these people even if the police manage to do so. More likely they will close existing prisons to take advantage of the ( temporary ) reduction in inmates. It’ll be more catch and release for every offense below murder one.

    • Agree: J.Ross
  27. Democrats love the high black murder rate. They will use it as an excuse to impose gun control on rural whites. Anyone who opposes that will be tagged as “racist” and uncaring towards blacks. With the NRA soon to be out of business and no effective gun lobby, the Democrats want all the black murders they can possibly get.

  28. Mass shooting in Minneapolis Friday night. Two dead, ten wounded. Two knuckleheads got into a beef in a bar near downtown at closing time, took it outside with guns where there were plenty of collateral targets. One shooter died plus a white kid set to graduate from college on Saturday.

Steve, naive and boomerish thinking. This is not 1968. Or Trump would have won. [He actually did, but the election was stolen]. It is not 1980. It is not 1992.

Democrats don't care about real votes.

Election day, pallets of ballots are "discovered" and there are no decent people left to throw them out as phony. Besides, "racism" or something.

Eventually a giant murder wave will crest over into the suburbs and that will the excuse -- to round up Whites on the grounds that some resist, and send them to work camps forever.

And for the elite, that's a good thing.

For road rage, “Retaliate” might not mean “honk back at you.” Instead of saying “retaliate,” say “he might shoot you.” Crime should be realistically reported.

Inky blue-black cities are that way until the Collapse comes.

i maintain the violent crime rate right now is actually about as high as it’s ever been. the big difference for the national murder rate is taking about 2500 murders per year off the board in NYC and LA. but those numbers are going up too. there’s no good reason to believe the murder rate will start coming down again anytime soon. all of the known mechanisms for reducing it aren’t happening. the opposite is happening. the D people in charge of D cities are doing the things that will cause it to continue to increase.

the only qualification – europeans are about as peaceful as they have ever been. the violent crime rate for europeans peaked in the late 70s if i’m reading the numbers correctly, and has decreased steadily since then, and is still going down. everybody being into gun culture and concealed carrying and being armed to the teeth like never before is certainly a factor in this. 4 million FBI background checks per month some months now.

From your experiences in writing on these topics for years, what policies do you think are best for reducing crime?
My guess is the three strikes was pretty good at reducing crime and incarceration, it seems to me the more harsh the crime laws are, the lower the crime rate and the incarceration rate tend to be. But you have bigger problems than that. I still remember that you said you would rather have sex with a white man than a black woman, since race loyalty should trump sexual orientation. You would actually prefer to have sex with Michael Moore over Kim Klacik. This is a view common among the Trashionalist set.

Then, you are baffled how mainstream white people like me keep you WN homos exiled from respectable society.

Steve, I too used to think that a "spike" on a graph (e.g., EEG) is a sharp increase followed immediately by a sharp decrease, so that the graph looks like __/\__. But through experience I learned that "spike" simply means "increase (usually sharp)".

The word "spiking" does not make sense. One can only know that something has "spiked" after the spike has passed, since there needs to be both an upward and a downward (or vice versa) movement in the graph, in quick succession, and one cannot know for certain that something that has suddenly gone up (or down) will immediately come down (or up).

I suppose it is conceivable that if in some, say, financial market like Bitcoin, price spikes are a common historical feature, then one might hypothesise that such and such is "spiking", but this does not apply to the present case, and would only be a hypothesis anyway.

The only way to reduce and mitigate, even modestsly, the increases and explosion of shootings and murders and violence in scores of large cities after the “murder” of saint George is to enact policies such as “stop” and frisk” and sentence far more black males to prison for longer periods of time. But that won’t happen, of course, given the zeitgeisst, so the pandemic of violence will stay more or less the same or grow far worse in the future as black males are increasingly coddled and indulged by a criminal injusstice system controlled, almost exclusively, by blacks and their white leftist sychopants, enablers, and apologists -those who are even arrested, indicted, prosecuted, and convicted.

I wish criminals were deterred by the threat of punishment, or the threat of being killed by their intended victim, but that just doesn’t seem to happen much. More effective might be incarcerating them as early as possible in their criminal careers, for much longer sentences. The less time they spend among the innocent, the less damage they can do to us.

Eliminating the braindead parallel justice system for juveniles would help a lot. We have murderous pre-teens marauding our cities, robbing, invading homes, jacking cars and shooting randomly at everything, for no other reason than that it thrills them. If the left in cities shifts more to the right, I don't think it's the crime rate that's going to do it. The shootings are still mostly confined to black neighborhoods. White liberals can ignore them.

If anything, it's going to be the homeless problem that drives white liberals crazy. The homeless encampments that take up the entire sidewalk for blocks and their filth are a far greater nuisance to the average city dweller, and they're harder to ignore and physically avoid.

Those homeless encampments are not in black ghettos, but in business districts, and they're turning business districts into no-go zones.

  82. Ezra seems to have pieced together all the downstream social ills of violent crime being concentrated in a particular place. These are things that psychological conservatives are good at spotting — threats to order causing ripples of repeat, etc. But psychological leftists can’t really conceive of the problems well, and can’t even imagine that conservatives have the common good in mind. So they assume that conservatives are only worried about their own back yard, their own possibility of being a victim of crime, etc.

One of the reasons we constantly harp on the many thousands of shootings and homicides that go ignored is because their social cost is much higher. Living in a specific area where people are murdered and there is no consequence for it is utterly damaging to the psyche and social fabric. Those areas need to be heavily policed, aggressively policed, until orderly non-crime is restored. This will cause more police encounters, yes. And there will be more resisted arrests and shootings by police.

But the Woke have caused incalculable, multigenerational damage by seeing all of this killing, and deciding the main message to send to those areas is “Cops are your main problem, we need to see less of them, that is what is holding you back.”

It’s terrible. There is a future where blacks can flourish in this country, and it does not require them to score just as well as the Vietnamese on standardized tests, or reduce their criminality to Vietnamese levels. It just requires the predominant culture to be centered on work, family, decency, etc.

But we are not headed in the direction of that future — we are heading directly away from it.

My long term prediction, which I still believe, is they will eventually shut down all prisons.

I'm actually curious to what policies reduce crime the most.
From your experiences in writing on these topics for years, what policies do you think are best for reducing crime?
My guess is the three strikes was pretty good at reducing crime and incarceration, it seems to me the more harsh the crime laws are, the lower the crime rate and the incarceration rate tend to be. For instance, NYC's daily jail population fell 70% following Giuliani's and Bloomberg's tenure of strict broken windows policing.

I wish criminals were deterred by the threat of punishment, or the threat of being killed by their intended victim, but that just doesn't seem to happen much.

When caught, they need to be charged as adults, not as a deterrent, but solely for the purpose of removing them from society as long as possible.

Rory Miller, a former corrections officer who wrote the indispensable Meditations on Violence, said that he once accompanyied a repeat juvenile offender, now 18, on his first trip to the penitentiary. Miller noted that the black youth’s attitude was one of excitement and anticipation, like that of a middle-class kid going off to college.

Well, for one, it's a way to use slurs for black people without getting in trouble.

Yeah, and using racial slurs directed at me.
