‘Wakanda Forever’ and the importance of #BlackGirlGenius

November 25, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. EST… But what I was most struck by was how [Black Panther: Wakanda Forever] portrays Black girls and women and technology. It leads us to imagine a world in which Black girls are technological geniuses and the weapons that White men use are, in Gen. Okoye’s words, “so primitive.” “Black Panther 2” invites us to imagine Black women as not just inventors but the proprietary owners of their inventions and resources, with no obligations to share with the Western world.
… It’s refreshing to see, even fictionally, an African nation strong enough to deny the West its resources and its technology — a complete reversal of today’s world order.
Wakanda won’t share its Magic Dirt, vibranium, with the West, who are stuck with their Tragic Dirt.
… Given all this, “Black Panther” is a bit of a technological-revenge fantasy. In the movie, the genius inventor is an American Black college student named Riri Williams, a.k.a. “Ironheart” (Dominique Thorne), who is studying at MIT. She develops a crucial piece of technology that everyone wants to get their hands on.
… Shuri, Riri and their respective technological geniuses are the true heroines of “Black Panther.” … Shuri and Riri realize their fullest individual potential through the technology they create and share with one another.
So, what if we lived in a world where Black girls were encouraged to be inventors in science and technology? Or where Black women could protect and benefit from their own creativity and genius? The U.S. Patent Office does not keep racial demographic data, but a 2010 study found that while U.S. inventors in general received 235 patents per million people, Black inventors received six patents per million people. And of course, we know that White male innovators get the lion’s share of financial backing — recent studies showed that women received only 2.7 percent of venture capital funding. And Black founders receive less than 3 percent.
So this holiday weekend, I’m grateful that “Black Panther 2” exists to show us what #BlackGirlGenius looks like. As we think about the gadgets that make our lives better, let’s all think about how many real-life Shuri and Riris are out there who don’t get the chance they should to make an impact on the world.
I liked Black Panther and I admire Ryan Coogler for having previously revived the Rocky franchise with his boxing movie Creed. But this sequel, which I haven’t seen, sounds like a mess, which can presumably be blamed on the first Black Panther’s hero, Chadwick Boseman, dying of cancer a couple of years ago.
Coogler has his (highly masculine) strong suits, but confecting this kind of you-go-girl nonsense sure doesn’t sound like it’s one of them.

Normally a religion revolves around belief in some super-natural events or revelations that are either in unknowable past or “explain” the normal operation of the world.

Now this Ghanaian-American writer for the Washington Post is extolling the merits of a comic book movie. The juvenile and simplistic nature of all this is really quite breathtaking. This is really a sad state of affairs for a people who seem to want to be taken seriously.

After filming Black Panther, director Ryan Coogler wants to have children, and more specifically, he wants daughters.
According to The YBF, the 31-year-old opened up about wanting children with his wife, Zinzi Evans.
“I found I want daughters real, real bad,” he said during an interview with the site after working with the women cast members for the film. “Like plural. I thought, making Fruitvale Station, I want kids. But like, on this one, I have to have some daughters.”

Exactly why is that? Rocky is a timeless classic and didn’t need to be ripped off, plagiarized, dumbed down etc. The first Creed was a complete 100% rip off of Rocky (1976), almost scene for scene. Only the names and colors had changed. Rocky wasn’t broken, thus there wasn’t any great need to fix it, except of course to give blacks the “hope” that they can have “their” safe spaces, and “their” heroes on celluloid.
Anyone in Hollywood can rewrite/plagiarize/steal/ripoff a classic film, that doesn’t take any special creative genius. It’s actually a sign of a hack, and a half-assed one at that.
Say what one will of Ford, Hitchcock, Welles, Wilder, DeMille, Hawks, etc. but at least they chose original material and didn’t rip off already established films.

As far as Afrocentric entertainment goes, at least Black Panther is a unique concept–a land all their own, by them and for them.
Hitchcock made The Man Who Knew Too Much twice (same title on both versions).
Wilder directed the remake of The Front Page.
DeMille made The Ten Commandments twice.
Hawks directed Rio Bravo, and apparently liked it so much that he made two approximate remakes, El Dorado and Rio Lobo.
Welles reworked many concepts from Citizen Kane in Mr. Arkadin.
Black Panther is not a hero and certainly not a superhero. Its a story about a bratty black king of a crap nation that wants to coup against him and hia family because they stink as rulers. But he has an impracticle suit made of metal that is jonetheless form fitting and bends with every movement like fabric, so he is able to suppress the other black people and continue to tyranize them. And that only allows for one story, the one above. So no sequel is truly possible.

I was reminded of the selfishness of Western nations during the height of the global covid-19 pandemic when these nations gobbled up lifesaving vaccines and left Africa largely out of the equation.

The last really good movie made was probably Bridge on the River Kwai. Anyone paying his own good money to see Black Panther or Creed is a sucker and is part of the problem by encouraging this anti-white-man idiocy.

“Creed” gave Sylvester Stallone his best role in decades, getting him his second Oscar nomination.
It's technically his 3rd Oscar nomination, as he was also nominated for best screenplay for Rocky.
But still unconvinced about putting Coogler in the same sentence of artistic creativity as John Ford, Orson Welles, Alfred Hitchcock, and others.

People often remind me of this dumb scene (I guess because real people are even dumber than Ron Howard movies):

Despite everything, there are still a number of black Americans in control of huge amounts of money that if they really wanted to could be used for any number of things that would theoretically benefit disadvantaged blacks. But they don’t for the most part – because they want everyone else to foot the bill. There’s no Andrew Carnegie in the black community, but there should be.

Illiterate redundancy aside, over 50,000 malmöiter, or a sixth of the population, were born in or near the Middle East. Add to that their children born in Sweden or other Western countries. Wikipedia says the population is 12% Islamic (likely an undercount), which is in the danger zone.

For unconnected whites qualified for and blocked from joining the verbal overclass, yeah the mandatory black IQ fantasies are humiliating.
But prole to upper middle class whites generally believe racial IQ egalitarianism. Or maybe they might concede Asians are a little better at math. Even those who can correctly posit whites are much smarter than blacks on every test and in every endeavor don’t realize how big the gap is: blacks would be well under 1% of elite colleges with fair admissions, and none would rank in the top 100 of any scientific discipline.
1000+ hours per year of TV and movie propaganda where blacks are a third of computer geniuses and scientists and get more than half the non-corrupt judge roles is almost perfectly effective propaganda.
And for we whites who have navigated our way into elite status and are aware of race and IQ issues, lacking the right to discuss the issues openly is kind of a drag, but not actually humiliating. We can still discuss it in cloaked language, and look forward to a late-career period like Amy Wax where we can speak openly.

There's a huge mural in a new section of the big Cincinnati Airport (CVG) terminal in Kentucky. Every one of the dozens of faces on it is black. The hairstyles, face shapes, and such aren't all black, but every White passenger who sees it is inside simply saying "WTF"? It's hard-core now.
Stallone is a good actor and he had his choice of scripts for decades. (for the record, the only movies I saw with him between Rocky and today were much better for him being in them – but he did not exactly choose challenging roles to play).

This movie portrays the Kingdom of Dahomey’s (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dahomey) so-called “Amazons” as stylishly dressed defenders of their fellow Africans against the depredations of European slave traders. In fact, the King of Dahomey made his kingdom rich and powerful by enslaving Africans from neighboring tribes and killing/torturing to death any he didn’t enslave. The slaves were then either sold at the coast to Europeans in the Atlantic slave trade or frequently sacrificed in Ju Ju religious rituals. The Dahomeyan king entrusted his Amazons with this task. They would raid villages, killing or torturing to death anyone not suitable for slavery, burning the village to the ground, and bringing captured slaves back to the coast.
The women recruited for this task were those regarded as too ugly to serve the King in any other capacity. They were highly effective against other tribes but were almost wiped out in the few battles they fought against European armies that were protecting client states from Dahomeyan depredations. One particularly annoying aspect of this movie is the false depiction of European slave traders treking into the interior to enslave Negros. In fact, European slave traders bought Negros who’d already been enslaved by other Negros at entrepots along the coast. This false depiction of the Atlantic slave trade goes back to Alex Haley’s “Roots” and the various TV series and movies based on that book.
I saw a trailer for The Woman King recently and it looked even stupider than Wakanda Forever, which is not exactly printing money at the box office.

A cancer likely made killer by the HGH that Boseman very likely did in order to get the “jacked” look now required of any male taking his shirt off in an action movie.
Similar to how the young actor playing Spartacus in the Spartacus TV series a decade ago suddenly got cancer and died and had to be replaced the second season. He, too, was very likely using HGH to look buff in all the action/shirtless scenes.
I’m sure this is whispered about in Hollywood—how you don’t want to end up like Boseman/Spartacus, so you have to monitor your HGH and cancer-signals closely when you’re training on the juice.

I was recently on a Frontier flight and their new practice (at least I think it’s new) is to move the sizing cage to the boarding gate and make every single passenger put every single bag into the cage to demonstrate to the gate agent that it is not larger than the permitted size. We take the disruptive kids out of the classroom and then what? Put them in the basement with a teacher? Do we just let them watch TV and fight? Are they going to school? Do they graduate?

Nikolas Cruz was adopted at birth. I don’t know what his genetic heritage was but he appears white and his adoptive parents were nice upper middle class type people. If I had to guess, Cruz, Sr. was probably of white Cuban heritage – white Cubans assimilate into America the same as other white Europeans. I think the Brazil solution could work. Just by breeding all blacks with whites and Asians for 1 generation you raise the average IQ to maybe 93 from 85. And that only absorbs 13 percentage points of whites and Asians – you have plenty of 100% whites and Asians left over to run a functional society. Also if everyone is some shade of brown then racial issues go away. Half Asians like Tiger Woods and Naomi Osaka gain athletic skills (and black skin privilege). Mexico doesn’t have any black problem because their black population just dissolved into general population without a trace. Leftists would not object to such a plan, though black nationalists might.

The first sound movie was made only about 20 years before I was born, and then there were other technological advances like color movies and widescreens, so all the great stories from literature could be made into movies several times.
But there aren’t many great stories or musicals being written now and movies have just become merchandise to be marketed and are mostly measured by metrics like what percentage of the movie constitutes fighting and explosions.
Okay, it was all nonsense but it was reasonably entertaining with some good acting.
For most people enjoying a movie is just a temporary diversion, not a political statement.

Blacks always think that they are being discriminated against so I wouldn’t draw any conclusions from the suit. In the end, McDonald’s bought him out of his restaurants for what they say is their fair market value so this doesn’t strike me as a vindication of his views – they just paid the squeaky wheel what his restaurants were worth and told him to go away.
McDonalds has hundreds of black franchisees – owning a McDonalds has been a great path to wealth for a lot of black entrepreneurs. Most blacks don’t have the full set of skills needed to run a restaurant business which is 1st and foremost a business and not just a matter of cooking skills. McDonalds provides you with a lot of handholding and guidance – they tell you exactly how to do EVERYTHING – where you should buy your napkins, how many pickle slices you should put on each hamburger, etc., but in exchange they don’t want you to do a lot of thinking on your own. White owners often chafe at these kind of restrictions but blacks are more OK with it. Blacks can also do very well in the military for the same reason.

I recall a couple of good ones from the 1960s though, and they held up when I looked at them again as an adult. Their parody of Lawrence of Arabia, and another of the now mostly forgottten movie, The Sand Pebbles.
Mad magazine was overtly very New York Jewish in much of its humor, but not all of it. Spy vs. Spy was excellent, and Antonio Prohias was Cuban, if I recall correctly.

Doing the math, if everything was proportional there would have been around 6,400 Jews in that age cohort and around 2,000 would have had felony convictions, meaning that the remaining 248,000 felons would have been not Jewish. If 100% of the Jews were felons, that would still only account for 6k felons leaving 244,000 non-Jewish felons.
But this sort of begs the question of whether Jews appear in the UK felon population in a proportion that is greater or less than other groups? My guess would be a smaller proportion, especially among violent felons, but the sums of money involved per Jewish felon would tend to be greater. One Sam Bankman-Fried can steal as much as 1,000 guys breaking into parking meters for quarters.

The Israeli settlers in Hebron are pretty extreme folks who are not representative of the average Israeli. I wouldn’t want Americans in general to be judged by the behavior of Branch Davidians either.
That being said, the history is that Hebron (almost uniquely among Israeli cities) had a more or less continuous Jewish population from antiquity until modern times until a series of Arab massacres in the late 1920s and 1930s chased the Jewish survivors from the city. (These deaths were not entirely in vain in that they woke up the remaining Jewish population in Palestine to the danger that they faced from their (up until then peaceful) Arab neighbors and led to the organization of the Haganah self defense forces which later formed the core of the future Israeli Army and prevented a defeat in the Israeli War of Independence.)
I assume that the particular building in question was probably a Jewish owned property prior to the massacres that the settlers feel that they are rightfully recovering for the Jewish people. So it is not so clear cut as to who is the squatter and who is the squattee.
As we have learned from the George Floyd video (and many other videos), operating by emotional reaction to videos is often not the best way to judge a situation because things are often more complicated than they appear at first glance.
He was portrayed pretty sympathetically by the Irish Catholic priests who taught at the high school. There is, as you may know, an old sentiment in traditional Catholicism that Legio X were acting as divine retribution for the pharisee's murder of Christ, and vindicators of Christ's prophesy of the destruction of Jerusalem made shortly before his torture and execution. What cities were spared by Legio X? I was under the impression Vespasian et al put more or less every Jew in Syria Palaestinea to the sword and the current Jewish population globally were all descendants of the Jews who were out in other areas of the empire when the Gladius came down. It’s propped up by the UK, which is similar to how Puerto Rico, which is a dump, is still the most prosperous island in the Caribbean because it is being propped up by the US. The ethnic cleansing of Judea by the Romans was far less than 100% complete. This is what the Israelis say:
When the Romans occupied the land of Israel in 63 BCE the population of the land was approximately three million people (out of an estimated world population of 250-300 million), most of them Jewish. By 135 CE, after the quelling of the Bar Kokhba revolt by the Romans, there were only about 700,000 Jews left in the country.

In any case, Vespasian put down the revolt around 70 CE and there was a 2nd Jewish revolt in 135 CE so it wasn’t completed by Vespasian for sure.
What the good Father’s taught you about divine retribution against the Pharisees (divine retribution doesn’t sound very Jesus-like to me) probably had more to do with their own prejudices than with the (cough) God’s honest truth.
In any case, the Jewish community in Hebron had existed for many centuries prior to the Arab pogroms of 1920s/30s. I can’t say with certainty that it was continuous.

I’m always skeptical of these accounts. A big part of conquest was to use, as a resource, the populations gathered to the empire. You needed peasants to tax, and draftees for your army. Can’t tax or shanghai a pile of corpses.

Something similar happened a couple of decades later, when the Romans were forced to abandon their conquest of Scotland when the Dacians invaded the empire in the east. The Romans pulled out of northern Scotland and never returned.
