Tree Mugger

The Washington Post explains that the Soros Loser riots in Portland are the fault of white supremacy and white racism going back to 1859:

A complicated past lies behind Portland’s violent protests

By Leah Sottile November 13 at 8:30 PM

PORTLAND, ORE. — Oregon’s largest city is often depicted as a progressive haven: a bastion of hippies and hipsters, feminists and vegans, bike commuters, urban farmers, backyard-chicken owners and coffee snobs. Decades after Portland’s peace protests earned it the nickname “Little Beirut,” its deep blue reputation has been cemented far beyond the Northwest via the exaggerated — and sometimes spot-on — stereotypes of the sketch comedy show “Portlandia.”

But in recent days, as protests erupted in several U.S. cities following Donald Trump’s presidential election victory, Portland’s mostly peaceful demonstrations were tainted by uncharacteristic violence. On Thursday, a march turned into a seething riot as baseball-bat-wielding anarchists took aim at plate-glass windows, windshields and electrical power boxes. Early Saturday, one protester was shot in the leg. Overnight Saturday, protesters filled downtown streets despite discouragement from city officials and demonstration organizers, and 71 people were arrested, most on charges of disorderly conduct. They were mostly male, with an average age of 25. …

But Portland’s kumbaya image isn’t wholly reflective of its past — or its complicated present. Tension is high over soaring rents and gentrification that are forcing out creative types and low-income residents. And the roots of racial inequality and white supremacy simmer under the clean exterior of a growing city where just 6 percent of the population is black, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

When Oregon was admitted into the Union in 1859, it was founded as a white utopia, the only state with black exclusion laws written into its Constitution — language that voters didn’t take action to remove until 2000. The Ku Klux Klan found a stronghold in Oregon well through the 1920s, and a code of ethics for local real estate agents prohibited housing sales to nonwhites. Housing discrimination was finally outlawed in 1957.

The contentious presidential race and the election of Trump, whose campaign has energized white supremacists, seems to have provided an opportunity for Oregon’s racial tensions to surface. A local high school was roiled last week after a commenter on the 2017 class’s Facebook page suggested that students create a “Ku Klux Klub.” On Election Day, dozens of students at a high school in a town north of Salem gathered with pro-Trump signs, displayed a Confederate flag and shouted comments including “Pack your bags, you’re leaving tomorrow” to Hispanic students, the Salem Statesman Journal reported.

“Oregon is very rural and racist, even though we perpetuate progressiveness,” Teressa Raiford, a Black Lives Matter protester and organizer of Don’t Shoot Portland, said Thursday night.

Raiford said she saw the chaotic turn to the protest as a symbol of it being co-opted by people she says weren’t there for the right reasons.

“To me it’s just a very unfair advantage,” she said. “It’s another way of promoting their own privilege.”

One self-identified anarchist, 20-year-old Armeanio Lewis — not his real name, he says — defended the Thursday violence. “It’s not against marginalized communities,” he said Friday. “It’s a declaration that they’re safe. We’ll protect them.” He described the unrest “an unleashment of rage” at what he calls violence advocated by Trump. …

But despite organizers’ focus on the future, some in the crowd arrived with teeth gnashing and ready to march — almost as if the previous night’s violence had inspired them to lash out at the city’s problems. A group of young people with black scarves over their faces carried full-length mirrors. “That’s for when the riot police come,” one said. “We’ll show them their faces.”

As Ackerman began to direct the crowd to come back together, cheers of “Let us march” drowned her out, and the crowd divided. By 8 p.m., the heal-in had transformed into a full-blown anti-Trump protest, with the crowds cheering “No Trump! No KKK! No fascist U-S-A!” …

If the afternoon march captured the do-gooder spirit of “Portlandia,” the mood of the previous day’s protests was starting to boil, for a sixth night. Portland’s Resistance held a candlelight vigil in Tom McCall Waterfront Park, where people gathered again to hear Gregory McKelvey, Lewis and others speak. Organizers were clear: They would not distance themselves from the behavior of anarchists — those who they say had been blamed by Portland police and media for damage to the city. …

McKelvey, for a third time this week, quoted the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.: “A riot is the language of the unheard.”

“I don’t think it’s fair to blame any group for the actions of individuals,” McKelvey told the crowd. “I’m sick of singing ‘We Shall Overcome.’ Donald Trump is going to be president, and we need to overcome.”

I don't understand why anti Trump protesters are rioting and destroying places like Portland. Portland certainly didn't vote for Trump. Seems like they would travel to some of these small rural Midwestern towns that did vote for Trump, but we all know why that wont happen .

Maybe Trump should take the oath and be sworn in in his home in NYC. There is no law stating that it must be in DC or that it be outside in public with a parade and several grand balls.

It would be nice if it were kept completely secret and done in NYC. The Soros rioters could then turn on the locals most of whom are black and or federal employees. Team Trump could justify it on security concerns. DC is just too dangerous for a White Republican.

    , @Anon

It would be a real inconvenience to the Secret Service, although I like the idea of Soros' minions freezing their butts off in January and annoying the DC locals, who voted for Hillary. Nonetheless, if the left tries to turn the inauguration into one big riot, I'd be furious. However, I think they're going to try it. If Trump has an ounce of sense, he'll invite plenty of active-duty military personal and National Guard units from various states to attend the ceremony. I'm afraid he's going to need them.

I also worry that Soros and his gang are going to try to Walkerize US cities all the way on up to the inauguration, and even try to block Trump from occupying the White House. If it comes to that, the US army may have to ignore Obama's last few weeks of tenure and intervene to make sure Trump arrives in office okay. I have not forgotten what happened to Scott Walker in Wisconsin. If leftists try the same antics on a national scale, they're really going to make themselves some serious enemies. Soros and his minions need to be in jail on treason and Rico charges.

They can't impeach Trump at this point, not with the Senate in Republican hands, but if the Senate flips in 2018, they'll try to go after him.

  11. anon • Disclaimer says:

There was one extremely serious violent crime against a protester. Namely the white anti Trump protester that was shot by a couple of black youths, sporting a TEC-9.

Cameron Whitten told the Oregonian newspaper that a car with multiple occupants was crossing the bridge in the opposite direction of the protesters. He said several people got out of the car, drove a short distance, stopped, then got out again. At that point, Whitten said, one of the people fired a shot into the air, then shot one of the protesters in the leg.

Another witness told KPTV the car’s driver said “If you don’t get off the bridge, I’m going to kill you,” then fired five shots.

There was an impressive effort to not notice this ‘off narrative’ shooting. The race of the perps wasn’t mentioned. But with their names, it was hardly necessary.

Police arrested Steffon Marquise Corothers and Shamar Xavier Hunter, both 18, in the shooting on the Morrison Bridge, according to The Oregonian. The two were charged with attempted murder and unlawful use of a weapon, police spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson. Corothers also received one count of attempted murder and Hunter was charged with six counts of attempted murder.

The youths were probably shocked to find out just how serious the cops are treating gunfire aimed at whites. Hunter is being held on $1.5 million bail.

The sheriff’s office and police have withheld the men’s jail photos and other details about the shooting.

Everyone in the world except the Washington Post knows about anarchists — they inevitably show up at these things.

State troopers then investigated the altercation and subsequently arrested McKelvey Friday for fourth-degree assault, first-degree domestic kidnapping, strangulation and harassment.

Tom’s Mugshot Rule #2 is to wear a large American flag lapel pin. Not applicable for a Portland riot arrest.

The 71 people who were arrested Saturday night -- with a couple of exceptions, I think -- had their mugshots posted in the Daily Mail.

Most them were just what you would expect, mostly 20 something males, with some females, a smattering of people in their 30's, a couple of guys who looked like homeless people dragooned by the police, one guy in his 50's who looks like he got a degree in sociology back in the 70's, and a half dozen young 18 girls, some of whom look like they have potential.

A cursory view saw 2-3 POC and maybe one person of Hispanic heritage.

One of Godfrey Elfwick's friends decided the mugshots were boring so dressed them up as otherkins (the guy barfing the rainbow is priceless):

White people are more drawn to self-harm, to hipsterism, to ideologies like anarchy, and to radical chic.

What you’re seeing in Portland and Oregon is a manifested aspect of whiteness that many right wing white guys miss. That many members of their race have an inborn desire to be a filthy hippy. And it’s not because “the Jews made them that way”.

The baseline issue here is that they aren't protesting Trump. That's the enabling lie.

They're taking to the streets of a highly white city to protest/threaten whites who voted for Trump, as you say a tiny minority in their town/suburbs.

The rioters are too pu##ified and dishonest to a) admit that and b) take their Heroic Conflict to where pushback could ensue. Like Columbia County, right next door. And I was surprised at how well Trump did in Clackamas and Clatsop counties.

Sauron and Son regard all this with glee as their "activism" and media handmaidens provoke reactions of hatred in observing whites…for the mostly white rioters in a mostly white city. At this game of fomenting civil war among whites, S&S excel. It is in their genome.

It's the same thing that happened with the "Occupy" "movement." Its useful idiots never got to Wall St. in any meaningful way, but they were happy to exploit the tolerance of nice white areas, or nicely kept oases in horrid places like Oakland, CA. (Remember the report on that at Zombietime? If you haven't read it, go to zombietime dot com.)

This whole thing whiffs to me of Occupy retread.

Harm has been done to people and property that would not have happened without the sheep prod. S&S are using whites' own young against us as a threat that they will serve the false fathers at their whim and will. (I.e., remember Suddenly-No-BLM-Riots October?)

It should be investigated and prosecuted under RICO.

Earlier today when I checked on CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, WaPo and NYT headline pages, they had nothing at all about it. They did, however, have stories about racist remarks against Michelle and an article about a cop flying a rebel flag…and I admit, those are a lot more important.

    http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/Matt-Harrigan-PacketSled-CEO-Trump-Threats-401134605.html

The NBC national news main page still seems to have nothing on it at this point, but they may have the story buried somewhere…maybe next to the recipes section. The guy is now saying it was a joke, but when did that excuse ever stop racist songs at frat parties from becoming gigantic news stories? We’re talking about assassination comments after a very contentious campaign.

  60. So what is this article about for Gosh Sakes? How dare white lefties riot and make something about THEM? That it has to be BLM boot-licking primetime, all the time?

Did anyone see SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE this weekend? Apparently when I wasn’t looking SNL suddenly became hip and relevant again. I actually saw the GHOSTBUSTERS reboot a couple weeks ago and really liked Katherine McKinnon in the spergy, girl-Egon Spengler role. She is even better known, of course, for her Hillary Clinton impressions on SNL this year (32 year old actress made up to look like the 44 year old version of an actually 69, and very decrepit, candidate? Yeah, no media bias there) . Anyway, everyone was buzzing about her “killer” intro to the show, consisting of a solo performance of recently-departed Leonard Cohen’s HALLELUJAH, after which she broke the 4th wall to enjoin the audience to NEVER STOP FIGHTING. My inner Pepe savored the taste of her barely-contained, salty tears (the fact that I just learned she’s a lesbian makes the tears even sweeter).

Anyway, though, the main sketch of the night for me was the ELECTION PARTY GONE WRONG one where a bunch of millennial SWPLs gather to watch the results come in, only to slowly realize their worst nightmare is coming true. The “funny” bits are where their acerbic bestest black buddy (guest host Dave Chapelle) skewers their liberal naivete. I know Steve once posited that SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE has been taking some very cleverly veiled subversive swipes at SWPL orthodoxy lately, but I could not see anything subversive here. Basically it was a sickening display of Inner Party members (blacks) rank-pulling on their Outer Party comrades (white feminists, white male cucks). As in, “How dare you feel good about America or yourselves for thinking we’ve just elected our first female President, when BLM, and people still don’t appreciate Obama, and BLACKETY-BLACK-BLACK-BLACK-BLACK-BLACK.”

Also a very disturbing moment when Chapelle talks about attending a BET-sponsored party at the White House and how he was so happy to see only black faces there. He repeated that twice, actually…

It won't happen because violent White Liberal rioters who are pro-Crooked Hildabeast are scared shitless of White Donald Trump supporters who own guns. That is why they are not rioting in Cajun country and Appalachia for example.

These violent far Left Wing White Portlanders prefer to use bats, bottles, and rocks as a means to carry out violence, not guns. They are scared to death of guns. If you give them a gun their hands would start to shake. Gun culture is alien to them.

It's a stereotype that Portland is a city of well behaved law abiding affluent Whites.

Portland has a lot of what I call Left Wing versions of White trash. Dirty Left Wing lazy Whites who consume meth, don't shower (a lot of White people in Portland smell like ass) , and sport dreadlocks to show their solidarity with Blacks.

Portland attracts a lot of Left Wing Whites with zero ambition who punch below their weight. Portland has to have the highest number of White panhandlers per capita in The United States.

She is even better known, of course, for her Hillary Clinton impressions on SNL this year (32 year old actress made up to look like the 44 year old version of an actually 69, and very decrepit, candidate? Yeah, no media bias there) . Anyway, everyone was buzzing about her "killer" intro to the show, consisting of a solo performance of recently-departed Leonard Cohen's HALLELUJAH, after which she broke the 4th wall to enjoin the audience to NEVER STOP FIGHTING. My inner Pepe savored the taste of her barely-contained, salty tears (the fact that I just learned she's a lesbian makes the tears even sweeter).

Anyway, though, the main sketch of the night for me was the ELECTION PARTY GONE WRONG one where a bunch of millennial SWPLs gather to watch the results come in, only to slowly realize their worst nightmare is coming true. The "funny" bits are where their acerbic bestest black buddy (guest host Dave Chapelle) skewers their liberal naivete. As in, "How dare you feel good about America or yourselves for thinking we've just elected our first female President, when BLM, and people still don't appreciate Obama, and BLACKETY-BLACK-BLACK-BLACK-BLACK-BLACK."

It used to be cheap. It was a blue collar town for a long while, and the 80's passed it by until deep into the 90's. The state was run as a large scale small town. Then it became the cheaper grunge alternative to Seattle, then the place hipsters went to retire, and here we are.

There are still lots of great rural areas (I won't mention the locations out of the long Oregon tradition of not clueing in outsiders) but the politics of the state as a whole are becoming impossible.

    Replies: @RadicalCenter

As with Washington State, the eastern 2/3 of Oregon should be its own State.

This would be a wiser, more peaceful, more attainable solution than these States or parts of them trying to secede from the USA.

  83. So today I had to spend the morning at a government office. (Don’t ask.) The public waiting area spread across almost the whole first floor of the medium-sized building. It was stuffed to the gills with vibrant, feisty folks not-so-patiently serving their two- or three-hour tours of duty in bureaucratic purgatory.

When I got to the building, there was a long line simply to get inside – the security guards had blocked off the entrance due to the overcrowding inside. One young black guy was enchanting the crowd with monotonic recitations of the lyrics of various pop and hip-hop songs.

Finally, the security guard – a young, thin black lady – allowed me entry. (The other guard – a white Hispanic guy, probably Cuban – was one of those 5’6″ bodybuilding types who strut around doing their best Arnold Schwarzenegger impressions. He didn’t do much except swagger around. A lot of short guys with biceps bigger than their heads go into the security field, at least around here.)

I passed through the metal detector without incident and walked over to the electronic number-ticket dispenser, where I dutifully typed in enough personal information to allow anyone looking over my shoulder to steal my identity. Finally I got my cherished number ticket and scanned the monitors to see where I stood in line. The number then being served was around 150; mine was a bit over 200. (The numbers were also called out over the PA, but the combination of bad audio and an announcer with an apparent speech impediment rendered the system all but useless.)

I didn’t even bother to try to find an empty chair, so I ended up standing near the security desk for the next few hours. The black lady yelled at me to stop using my iPhone, but relented when I showed her that my phone was in airplane mode and that I was neither texting nor calling.

A vibrant guy behind me began mouthing off about how long he’d had to wait. “I was the first one in this building and I’m still here! They told me three hours ago that there were only four people ahead of me! This is racist! This is racist bullshit!”

The black lady came over. After shrieking “Hey! Hey! Hey!” a few times, she addressed him in soothing mama-here-don’-cry-chile tones. She spoke of men who’d spent long hours at that office for days, even weeks, on end, waiting with the patience of Job for their turn in line. She reminded him that his getting angry and mouthing off was not going to incline anyone to help him. It mollified him somewhat, but even after she left, he kept muttering about racism.

After her conversation with the angry vibrant guy, the black lady shouted at the crowd: “Listen up, everyone! This is a government office! It takes all day to get things done! We’re security guards! We’re only here for crowd control! Don’t ask us how much longer you’re gonna have to wait! Thank you!”

They liked it. Many of the older folks in the crowd made the kinds of positive noises (“Hm-hmm” and “True, true”) that you might hear at a black church when the preacher is on his A-game.

It was an interesting morning. As I’ve said before, anyone who spends time in some of the more vibrant corners of our society will quickly learn that The Gap is more than just a clothing store.

It is true that the Klan was active in Oregon in the 20s, but if they read their history they’ll see that the main focus of the Klan at that time was the Catholic Church, not blacks or Jews. And they even got some kind of weird legislation passed that outlawed nuns and priests from wearing clerical garb in public and kept them from teaching in schools or some such nonsense. And it is also true that Metro, the land use planning entity that oversees Portland Metro development, has some level of subconscious racism when it views the potential value of real estate in NE Portland, the traditional Black neighborhood, then sets about simultaneously building dense section 8 crackerboxes in the now uncool suburbs, and handing out rental vouchers to get the Blacks out of NE so the predominately White gen-X hipsters can move in and gentrify.

I live in the unfortunate east Portland suburb of Gresham, it’s new-found section 8 housing density being one of the main reasons PDX is only 6% black. Pretty sure we’re one of the next Fergusons. Twenty years ago it was a damned nice burb.

On one of the nights last week when this latest group of crackpots were “rioting” in Portland, it was hilarious to hear on the radio the evening traffic report that included a Blazer game, a Winter Hawks game, rush-hour traffic, and a riot.

Back in the 90s it was funny to see someone send in to P.J. O’Rourke when he was asking for additions to his Enemies List, The Entire State of Oregon.

I live in Oregon, but politically speaking I loathe the place.

Do you think all the pot-smoking has played a part in the leftie turn? My vision of Portland was of all unmotivated hippies in combat boots. Zillions of Indians seem to have moved up there to do the actual work that all the stoned white people can't.

A friend from Klamath Falls, a different area I know, said the whole city was maintained by the welfare system. He estimated that 25% of the population was on welfare.

    Pot + welfare + Indians = OR?

After we've done with our long list of near-enemies, can we go after limey pussies who think spewing conventional political kitsch is edgy of you shout and say "fuck" with the regularity of a metronome? What a cliche! Who is that a--don't tell me, I don't want to know.

C’mon, man. He is that rare liberal pointing out to his homies that discussion and persuasion might work better than name-calling.

Progs are saying Sanders could have beaten Trump.

    I dunno.

But 4 yrs from now, the Dems will surely put forth a more worker-friendly candidate.

So, Trump has to offer something to the workers in that time.

Bernie Sanders couldn’t defeat those two loudmouthed stupid black women who took over his rally last year.

You and Derb are both doing your best and funniest writing ever now. Nothing succeeds like success!

I understand why you think that Steve is doing his best because of his success. I think he just does his best.

I do not understand why you think John Derbyshire is succeeding due to success. Derbyshire was wrong on Brexit and wrong on Trump. The “We are Doomed” might be appropriate for an Englishman in England, but we left the British Empire, and the defects thereof, behind in 1783.

Derbyshire is an intellectual bereft of the American ability to accurately assess circumstances. Translating Derbyshire, the boat anchor, into success is the kind of prestidigitation that David Copperfield would salute. But it does not work in this context.

I concur. While I read and admire Derbyshire for his stands in the past, his being dead wrong on the issues you note suggests how deeply is his lack of faith in us to act as historical or social or cultural agents.

This is akin to the NeoReactionary monarchist/churchy LARPers who absolutely cannot see the flaws in the Old Euro Elite model of society.

I would have thought anyone who gave the causes of WWI any serious attention would have concluded this. Cousin (or, ick, closer) marriage/reproduction leads to genomic and later cultural and social/political disaster. The more power those clusters of cousins have, and the more unchallenged it goes, and the longer, the worse things tend.

The single most important thing about the American republic, as my ancestors (and many of youse's) constructed and established it, was that it was a political experiment whose foundations were strictly, seriously HBD-informed.

The Enlightenment is that. No more. No less. It wasn't "the worship of Reason" as the New Abrahamic snoots sniff it. It was the understanding that Reason is not equally distributed and that nothing selects for it like hard work and lots of time spent outdoors.

Then repair to the tavern where the Newes is argued over, or the crossroads pub with hunting yarns, or the waterfront tap room or hearthfire to tell sea stories.

And among my churchgoing ancestors in New Sweden, the church was a combination town hall, civic center, meeting house, special events hall, burial ground, archives, art museum, and place where people gathered to ostentatiously (in their idiom) read "the bible" in their own GD way and with their own GD interpretations. They did their "worshipping" elsewhere, judging from what was handed down to me.

    Random thoughts…
