I didn’t have very high expectations for Adams; I just thought given the other likely contenders for NYC mayor, he was the lesser evil. That’s still probably true; but it’s a reminder of how dismal the politics of NYC are.

Unfortunately for NYC he’s proving to be essentially useless; he doesn’t seem to care whether he delivers on any of his campaign promises as much as he cares about getting good press (and VIP access to the best restaurants and clubs). He’s unlikely to serve out his term without a scandal.

Still, it could be worse. There’s still a lot of valuable property, high-income individuals, and large corporations domiciled in NYC; once the socialists figure out how to start looting it effectively, NYC will collapse.

So, have we decided to go pre-1980 census and label Gold Chain people white? Adams has his honeymoon now, but we’ll have to check back in after a couple of years. He’s obviously been groomed to end up where he is now after his previous elected posts, and not being a New Yorker it’s impossible for me to comment on whether he was just your typical politician or seemed to be a bit better than average.

Timing is a big part of politics and he definitely benefitted by being a) black, b) not crazy on crime/policing, and c) not Bill de Blasio. I have a lot of friend and relatives in NYC and every single one of them hated the former mayor, so Adams no doubt appeared to be a sensible antidote to a lot of voters.

Based on my personal experiences from where I have lived, it seems big city politics really do a remarkable job of elevating hugely unimpressive people to fairly powerful positions. Since Adams has spent his entire life employed by the public, I am not hopeful that he will turn out to be particularly effective or innovative.

Who cares? Two things spurred him to make The 25th Hour.

I think this incident really set Spike off. He’s a mercurial, pretentious guy, and hearing a critic deride him unintentionally as only making “black films” probably rankled him on an artistic level, so he decided to make an even better white film (besides the girl, natch) that, really, could have been an all-black cast.

Wisconsin has not been Democratic since statehood. In fact, shortly after statehood the Republican Party was formed in Ripon. Wisconsin. The GOP completely dominated state politics for 100 years.

Finally, in the 1950s, the more liberal wing of the GOP broke off and became the Wisconsin Democratic Party. Many of the original Democrats had been Republican up to that point.

Since then, the two parties have been roughly equal. The Democrats have the state wide offices and one Senator. The Republicans control the state legislature, the state Supreme Court, the congressional delegation and the other senator.

One thing that might bring some people back to the office is the fact that many companies still have years to run on expensive office leases and having their employees WFH while still paying huge amounts of rent is like buying oats for a dead horse. There was no color line in Islam so that the children that you had with your African female slaves were legitimate. Companies are not going to stick with 100% WFH so they are still going to need offices. People will just be in the office 1 – 3/days week instead of 5. So instead of having no business, the lunchtime restaurants will have half the business, which is not enough revenue for half of them to stay in business.
