Marge’s pill bottle says “Prozac” rather than “Vicodin,” but we get the message: the last decade and a half of rising white death rates without anybody paying attention has been Trump fault’s.

  1. My God, it’s a long time since The Simpsons was funny.

    • Replies: @Yak-15
Haven't see a good post year 2000 episode yet. Certainly funny parts, but nothing as great as the first 8 seasons.
    , @Olorin
What Yak said. I tuned out in season 11 or 12 (2001 or 2002). We borrowed later seasons and by #13 it was increasingly torture.

That was about the same time The Onion ceased to be funny.

I keep thinking about John Stauber's Counterpunch piece about how the Democratic party is a PR front for super rich elites who consolidated power in the party in the late 1990s.

  2. This interpretation seems like a stretch.

Yeah, I’m not seeing it. Marge may be a ‘flyover country’ housewife, but her political/social sentiments are Pollyannish mainstream liberalism aka nice white lady. She’s an “I’m With Her” Hillary loyalist who is stressed about Trump, hence the Prozac.

In Steve’s defense, the fact the the gag isn’t funny all could certainly make a noticer wonder if there’s another subtext. Maybe it’s a weak ambiguous twofer.

    , @cucksworth
her abuse of scripts is triggered by Drumpf. Care to share your interpretation?
  3. Everything has been his fault since the 90s.

  4. A shout out from the MSM and you’re up and running at 5:00 AM!

Should be “Trump’s fault”, not “Trump fault’s”.

Don’t feel like the Lone Ranger, though. I don’t ever fully wake up until 9:00 AM either.

The Simpsons is a good show but I don’t like to praise it. It sucks ip to the numinous negro Hollyweird BS. There is NEVER an unsympathetic blach character. We are supposed to believe blacks are all high IQ docs, precise engineers, soulful musicians. This encourages Mudsharking and fuels CultMarx delusions, since idiots and women have suffrage this is disastrous. Funny becausr in many ways TS is much more red pill than, most mainstream sgows.

    • Replies: @Danindc
When it was funny At one point they did have the black comedian whose only material was "black guy drive like this" (real cool like) and white guys drives like this (dorky!) causing Homer to exclaim- "he's right we are stupid!!"

The joke being that black comedians are pretty much terrible

Actually this is probably better than my explanation.

This interpretation seems like a stretch.

That’s not really the point of this post

  8. Steve, you are the greatest journalist alive today. I thank you for your contribution to the world with a sample of the greatest composer alive (and a donation next week). She is eleven years old and has already written an opera. From the Department of beutiful music: Alma Deutcher.

    Alma’s message:

    • Replies: @Romanian
I find her pallor problematic and the supremacist undertones of her chosen musical field deeply disturbing. Austrian academics should interrogate their culture for the hidden racial and religious bias of so-called "classical" music, which marginalizes contemporaneous styles found in Africa and elsewhere. The unbearable whiteness of the results of their curation of Austrian cultural products towards discriminating against contributions made by oppressed peoples should be resolved through targeted action.
    , @vinteuil
    Thanks, TB - really interesting.

Alma Deutscher - that would be something like "The German Soul," or "The Soul of Germany," right? Given that her father is a prominent linguist, that's presumably no accident.

Will she be the 21st Century's Mendelssohn? Or will she burn out in a couple of years and never be heard from again?

Unfortunately, unlike Mendelssohn, she's up against some really strong cultural headwinds - so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

One gathers from the interview that she's been an admirer of Richard Strauss practically from her cradle. But the Concerto finale sounds more like Johann Strauss - not that there's anything wrong with that!

If she gives us anything comparable to the Mendelssohn Octet within the next five years, I'll uncross my fingers.

    , @vinteuil
BTW - an Israeli father who not only allows but encourages his daughter to listen & learn from the works of Richard Strauss is truly righteous. I've got Jewish friends of the highest level of musical sophistication who still refuse to listen to Tristan - because Hitler.
    , @johnmark7
This is hilarious. She sounds like she's trying our for My Fair Lady when she speaks, and her violin concerto is a joke. A mishmash of bad Mozart and a bunch of other romantics.

That's fine. No one expects an eleven year old anything to produce mature and interesting art, but promoting it as something wonderful is bad. And encouraging this child to think her productions are wunderbar and amazing is sick.
    , @Cloudswrest
Starting at 1:10 of the second video is a great "Emperor's New Clothes" moment!
  9. It seems to me this is satirizing the anti-Trump position.

But then I haven’t been following The Simpsons lately.

  10. They’re still making new Simpsons episodes? Is Gunsmoke still on the air too?

    • Replies: @Alden
Gunsmoke is still on the air. After I retired I sometimes watched it in the afternoon. The stories, set, characters etc are truly excellent.

BUT it is nothing but liberal propaganda. I soon noticed that almost every episode consisted of a stranger coming to town and the towns people didn't like the stranger or strangers, After some problems the situation was resolved. And everyone learned a lesson that there is nothing wrong with strangers. It was basically the same thing as Star Trek in which every episode encountered strangers who turned out to be harmless.

“In the first three months of 2017, Manatee County Emergency Medical Services paramedics administered 450 doses of Narcan, the brand-name version of the opioid antidote called naloxone used to revive patients who have overdosed on heroin and other drugs.

That’s down from the 474 administered in the final three months of 2016, but more than 2 1/2 times as much as the 173 doses recorded in the first quarter of 2016…”

About 3 ago the DEA began a crackdown on the ‘pill mills’ that dispensed pharmaceutical opioids to addicts and those with chronic pain. Even if you had a prescription you could no longer find oxycodone. Pharmacies no longer had any in stock. The legal price soared and the black market price went out of sight. Mexican black tar heroin became the alternative supply (often laced with Fentanyl) and bodies began piling up as dosage became unknown. 75 dead last year in Manatee County alone.

The pill mills and pain clinics may have had their problems but if addicts could get a 30 mg oxycodone pill for $1 they didn’t have to rob people and they knew how much they were taking when they shot up.

I am familiar with the research. The point is that people in our nation are dying for a host of reasons. It is tragic for ALL racial groups in our country. Figure out solutions for the causes for everyone.

It's not a fricking racial matter, it's a human being concern.

Does every single show on TV have to be for shitlibs now?

I feel like I know the answer to this, but why can’t they just make ONE sitcom that isn’t?

Perhaps TV writers didn’t notice, but Trump did actually win the election. Meaning that he’s fairly popular. They really are just leaving money on the table by not making SOMETHING for the people who like him

And I know that they’ll say that it’s because Trump voters don’t buy enough stuff from advertisers or something like that. But they have to have more money than black people, and they make shows specifically for them.

And I also know that, if they did make a show for them, they’d screw it up. It’d be a bunch of fat guys in MAGA hats yelling “Git-R-Done!” as they beat their wives or something. But the fact that they don’t at least try makes it pretty obvious that it’s just a question of spite.

Which, really, is probably a good thing, in the long run. Getting people out of the habit of watching TV is a good thing, and if the people in the media really do hate us (as they do), I guess it’s nice to know it.

    • Replies: @Anon
March through May is the traditional time that the big networks hire new TV writers through their various writing fellowships. It's essentially recruitment season RIGHT NOW for the new crop of writers coming in post-election. The show currently airing were, for the most part, filmed prior to the election. So you need to account for that lag.

Variety ran a couple pieces back in February about how the networks were going to be specifically looking for conservative writers and pilots this year, due to the Trump victory.
    , @FPD72
"Last Man Standing" on ABC has a bit of a right/pro-Trump tilt. "Blue Bloods" on CBS is another that tilts right with most of the main characters. Although immigration is treated with kid gloves, the show isn't bashful about portraying black crime.

  23. Oh, the poor Anglo-Saxons are killing themselves because competition from immigrants has been so mean to them! Never mind the fact that nothing is stopping those white junkies from not taking drugs and trying to improve their lives. They have volition to decide about their lives. There are plenty of white people born in poverty or in lower middle-class families that got into Ivy League schools and made something of their lives.

Never mind that white Americans still have a standard of living that is higher than 99.9% of everyone in the World. Go tell some Chinese kid working in a sweat shop 18 hours a day just to eat that white Americans have it bad. Go ask some kid dying from Kwashiorkor in Senegal if white Americans have it bad.

Never mind that people living in barrios in Mexico or in favelas in Brazil have a standard of living that is literally 10 X lower than that of the poorest white Americans, and they are not committing suicide in large numbers, despite the fact that their opportunities to improve their lives are much fewer than what poor white Americans . In other words, white people in America are *spoiled and entitled*.

I think Bill Maher said it best: the alt.right and white identity movements in America are white people complaining about losing unearned priviledges. White people are not protesting over being enslaved, or over being rounded up and killed by the government just for being white, or some other hardcore suffering. No; rather, white people, especially white heterosexual males, are angry that Society no longer bends over backwards to please them. Back in the 1950’s, if you were a white straight male, Society literally bended over backwards for you. You had a higher status assured by law, priority for getting jobs, the highest positions in government reserved for you, etc. What happened in the 1960’s is not that white people were put in shackles, or relegated to second-class status. No: what happened is that white people simply lost their special political status and became equal with every body else. And white straight males are very angry that the law now treats them as no better than anybody else. However, white Americans are still extremely priviledged compared to pretty much everybody else in the World. And that includes white Europeans. Go ask some French family of five living in a tiny two room apartment in Toulouse if white Americans have it bad. Or ask some German doctor or engineer living in Stuttgart who have a standard of living no higher than what Americans with high school diplomas have despite their graduate degrees if white Americans have it bad. In terms of PPP per capita, white Americans are still almost twice as rich as people in other developed countries.

So basically, white people in America went from being *obscenely* priviledged to just being very priviledged, and I am supposed to feel sorry for them? Sailer, you should stop these articles pitting the white working class because it is embarrassing. The problems of blue-collar Americans are caused by their own ethical and personal failures, and not immigration. White working class Americans always had competition from immigrants in the past, and they always dealt with it. It is not immigration, but the general deterioration of the values of white working class Americans that explain their “plight”. I am using the word plight between quotes because despite being indolent and less studious than workers everywhere else, white working class Americans are still 50 X wealthier than the average human. You are doing blue-collar white Americans no favor by coddling them like that. In fact, immigration offers a healthy reality-check for white Americans.

    In other words,

Not really that many, to be honest.

We know. We know we've made a country that's better than all of theirs. That's why we get so annoyed when people like the Diaz family come here to leech off of us and then tell us that we're oppressing them.

I think Bill Maher said it best: the alt.right and white identity movements in America are white people complaining about losing unearned priviledges.

We earned them by being the civilization that created them.

Back in the 1950′s, if you were a white straight male, Society literally bended over backwards for you.

Wow. Society literally "bended". I would have loved to see that.

And white straight males are very angry that the law now treats them as no better than anybody else.

It actually treats us worse. We don't get affirmative action. We aren't allowed to just break whatever laws we want, like illegals, and not suffer any repercussions. But you already knew that.

The problems of blue-collar Americans are caused by their own ethical and personal failures, and not immigration.

    No, actually it's immigration.

White working class Americans always had competition from immigrants in the past, and they always dealt with it.

They were never happy about it, though, and in the long run, it probably did make most of them worse off. And that was back when the immigrants were of higher quality than they are now.

It is not immigration, but the general deterioration of the values of white working class Americans that explain their “plight”.

What explains the "plight" of all the people in Brazil and China I'm supposed to feel so sorry for? Are their "values" the reason they're worse off than I am?

I am using the word plight between quotes because despite being indolent and less studious than workers everywhere else, white working class Americans are still 50 X wealthier than the average human.

Well, the "average human" should just pull themselves up by their bootstraps and make more money, shouldn't they? What's wrong with them? Why are their values so bad?
    , @Daniel Chieh

Go tell some Chinese kid working in a sweat shop 18 hours a day just to eat that white Americans have it bad

I would just like to add that even charitably, Chinese-Americans are willing to cooperate and practice some nepotism, which whites do not and are not allowed to. When the Koreans, for example, funded each other and started small businesses through mutual sacrifice it was indeed admirable, but whites aren't even allowed to play the same games. Refuse to hire other races, and they fall under regulation. Recommend other whites based on race or nationality, and affirmative action edges into you.

This is something which my white wife has mentioned specifically to me after seeing how our life and our culture was organized: that not only do whites not usually practice that kind of mutual assistance, but they are legally prevented from doing so.

This doesn't seem fair by any measure.

    , @Daniel Chieh
Oh, and given that my very nonwhite father thrived as a legal immigrant despite moving into the -JIM CROW- -DEEP SOUTH-, it really makes me dubious about the entire narrative of white privilege. As far as I can see, the major difference was that society wasn't trying to "bend over backward" in the name of "diversity" then.

Honestly, if people have time to complain about microaggressions, they have too much time on their hands.
    , @epochehusserl
Oh, the poor Anglo-Saxons are killing themselves because competition from immigrants has been so mean to them! Never mind the fact that nothing is stopping those white junkies from not taking drugs and trying to improve their lives.
    --------------------------------------------------
Whites trying to improve their lives could cause a disparate impact and harm a member of the protected class which would violate the civil rights act of 1964. Perhaps whites should engage in sit-ins and accuse people of unrelated historical grievances because being productive and resourceful is not valued by our society.

THE SIMPSONS is still on! Yeah, the logical part of my brain realizes this must be the case, since there would have been a long, drawn-out, self-congratulatory send-off even I would have heard of if they had finally announced they were wrapping things up.

Yet who the hell watches this thing? This isn’t like BEATLE BAILEY running 50 years after the end of the Korean War or BLONDIE running 70 years after the end of Prohibition, because those two are newspaper comics that fill up space that is relatively cheap. SIMPSONS is taking up precious air on a Big 4 TV network decade on top of decade past the time it was any good, past the time it was acceptable, past the time Gen-X nostalgia would have welcomed a fresh reboot if the series had retired gracefully as it should have over a generation ago.

How many landmark series have come and gone since this zombie of a show has shambled across our screens, refusing to die:

    SEINFELD
    FRASIER
    SOPRANOS
    EVERYONE LOVES RAYMOND
    CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM
    THE WIRE
    BREAKING BAD
    DOWNTON ABBEY
    (soon) GAME OF THRONES

Should also point out that before it became “woke” (4 Presidential terms ago as a result of the Iraq Attaq) the show was quite subversive, though in that typically cloying, no-one-here-but-us-all-American-Thomas-Paine-inspired-America-loving-progressives here.

    * during the very beginning of the show (when, I might add, Homer was a pretty standard-issue responsible father figure and not the scene-stealing dumb jacka$$ he subsequently became) they made a point out of Bart with extreme disrespect calling him by his first name; all part of the hidden-rot-in-suburbia, childrens’-rights milieu of thought boomer creeps (including I’M WITH HER) used to be into before it was acknowledged for the horrible idea it was and then memory-holed
    * there was never any grandma on the show, but subsequently it was revealed she was a 60’s radical bomb-thrower on the run- though such an idealistic nice one and, my gosh, those bombs weren’t really meant to hurt anybody!

The reason I know the never-ending WAR ON TERROR will actually end at some point is because there will be a new season of THE SIMPSONS to book-end it, and so it will have an actual finite beginning and end.

The first Simpsons short premiered during the third episode of The Tracey Ullman Show, broadcast on the then-fledgling Fox television network on the evening of Sunday, April 19, 1987.

    That was thirty years ago.

In 1987, Ronald Reagan was the president of the United States, Mikhail Gorbachev was the general secretary of the Communist Party of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Donald Trump was a loudmouthed real-estate developer peddling a new book (The Art of the Deal), and Steve Sailer was a researcher at a marketing firm in Chicago.

    Pop-culture stagnation, indeed.

Everyone involved with this appears to be safely 100% on the Left. That makes it all the more fascinating that they’re so gung-ho about the self-criticism, show-trial, witch-hunt aspect. Good intentions and self-abnegation are no excuse.

"I had the impression for a while that philosophy was a relatively rational outpost within the increasingly crazy humanities fields."

Well, there's philosophy, and then there's philosophy, and then again there's philosophy.

Briefly, there's Anglo-American analytic philosophy, there's Continental philosophy, and there's Aristotelian/Thomistic Catholic philosophy.

(South & East Asian philosophy remains, so far, relatively negligible in the U.S.)

The first and the third are relatively rational outposts - so long as nothing remotely racial or sexual or political comes up. But the second is at least as crazy as anything else in the humanities.

It's a long story. Hope that helps.

Anyone who had bet going, at least he covered the 5% mark before throwing the game. Hope someone made some money on that.

  29. Not Trump’s fault but the GOP and Democrats along with their Wall Street masters who must take the blame.

The GOP and Buckeley Conservatives for ceding the culture wars and culture to the Left. It was the only war that mattered and the Right f**ked up. The dumb shits focused on bullshit ideology composed by European intellectuals that was meaningless to a majority of white Americans and to the country.

I mean really WTF were they conserving? Nothing. Not culture, values, people.

The second stroke came with LBO’s in the 80’s that devastated old school American firms and sent millions to the unemployment lines.

In the 90’s the GOP and Democrats joined together and pushed NAFTA, PNTR with China that gutted our industrial heartland and destroyed entire towns and families as well. 8 million plus, well paying jobs vanished forever. We’re still bleeding jobs to Asia even today.

And during this time the H-1B frenzy began in the tech sector and spread to manufacturing plants as well. Oh lets not forget the illegal aliens welcomed in by both parties and the white elite.

And lets not forget affirmative action that helps freeze out white men from local, state and federal jobs.

When you add it all up, it’s not surprising what has happened to white blue collars and middle-class. The only thing I am surprised at is that they haven’t went nuts and started killing off the white upper classes along with the corporate and political classes that instigated it all.

Now, it will get hard to denigrate the workers of the Plains, Midwest, Mountain and South & North (by both parties) because more Millennials boys, in particular will be able to vote in the next election! And, they have had enough bashing. They've also gone deeper underground....become much more cynical.

And, on top of that, it is cruel and uncivilized to not recognize that the opiate addiction is directly linked to the destruction of manufacturing jobs in this country...so, blaming the victims is grotesque. If anything, we should all be blaming the Mexican drug runners/cartels/dealers; the porous borders; along with the global elites who outsourced the decent jobs/closed the plants. Well, when more upper income kids start dying, then stuff might happen...especially when they can't find work with their BA in liberal arts. Depression is a bitch.

And, as a mother of sons, boys/young men smelled that hatred of white boys, the incessant stereotyping of boys, the sidelining of boys. The bashing: (bashing of football, so-called bro'culture, fratty frats; rape culture bs; white privilege bs; bashing of "gamers"; efforts to feminize SV; liberals trying to destroy the last merit-based institutions; and the constant condescension, and use of derogatory terms to describe blue collar men, computer adept boys, guys who like sports, American soldiers. And, you know what? it is too late for any future Democrat, male candidate, to convince boys that they have not been ignored, criticized (remember the Pop Tart gun?) and sidelined for more than a decade now. And, girls still wanna hang-out with the cool guys.

So, Trump is correct when he says it is a movement, not a party. However, right now, he is being obstructed, but what's the upside of obstructing him, ridiculing him? Nothing - it will hurt the elites and liberals just as much...they're so blind to this. Destroying the middle class destroys them, too, one way or another. Somebody has to pay the taxes.

  30. This reminds me, so Netflix newest series are “Chewing Gum”, about a black empowered female and “Dear White People”, same thing. On the other hand we have “13 Reasons Why” about a white female who commits suicide and has received the most press referring to its glorification of (white) suicide. Noticing things. https://www.google.com/search?q=netflix+bubblegum&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjj7PPdn8_TAhVS5WMKHcqOBmQQ_AUICSgA&biw=1360&bih=649&dpr=1#q=netflix+13+reasons+why+suicide

Back in the 1950's, if you were a white straight male, Society literally bended over backwards for you. You had a higher status assured by law, priority for getting jobs, the highest positions in government reserved for you, etc. What happened in the 1960's is not that white people were put in shackles, or relegated to second-class status.

It is not immigration, but the general deterioration of the values of white working class Americans that explain their "plight". I am using the word plight between quotes because despite being indolent and less studious than workers everywhere else, white working class Americans are still 50 X wealthier than the average human. You are doing blue-collar white Americans no favor by coddling them like that. In fact, immigration offers a healthy reality-check for white Americans.

We know. We know we’ve made a country that’s better than all of theirs. That’s why we get so annoyed when people like the Diaz family come here to leech off of us and then tell us that we’re oppressing them.

I think Bill Maher said it best: the alt.right and white identity movements in America are white people complaining about losing unearned priviledges.

We earned them by being the civilization that created them.

Back in the 1950′s, if you were a white straight male, Society literally bended over backwards for you.

Wow. Society literally “bended”. I would have loved to see that.

And white straight males are very angry that the law now treats them as no better than anybody else.

It actually treats us worse. We don’t get affirmative action. We aren’t allowed to just break whatever laws we want, like illegals, and not suffer any repercussions. But you already knew that.

The problems of blue-collar Americans are caused by their own ethical and personal failures, and not immigration.

    No, actually it’s immigration.

What explains the “plight” of all the people in Brazil and China I’m supposed to feel so sorry for? Are their “values” the reason they’re worse off than I am?

I am using the word plight between quotes because despite being indolent and less studious than workers everywhere else, white working class Americans are still 50 X wealthier than the average human.

Well, the “average human” should just pull themselves up by their bootstraps and make more money, shouldn’t they? What’s wrong with them? Why are their values so bad?

"Not really that many, to be honest."

Yes, there are. My family is poor, and my sister got into Cornell without quotas. I graduated with a masters degree in chemical engineering at 21 from a top #20 ranked university.

"We know. We know we’ve made a country that’s better than all of theirs. That’s why we get so annoyed when people like the Diaz family come here to leech off of us and then tell us that we’re oppressing them."

I do not owe you *anything*. No one gave me or my family anything at all. Everything we have, we got with hard work and dedication. You did not "build" the affluence that American Society had in the 1950's. That was built by intelligent and industrious white people, who are innately different from blue-collar whites. You just benefitted from the wealth created by them and got paid 10 X more than people doing the same work in other parts of the World. Why aren't you building that wealth now? Why aren't blue-collar white Americans creating companies and inventing technology? Oh, that's right, because they can't.

"We earned them by being the civilization that created them."

You did not create anything. Your betters created it. You just benefitted from it.

"Wow. Society literally “bended”. I would have loved to see that."

Don't play dumb. You know that is metaphorical speech.

"It actually treats us worse. We don’t get affirmative action. We aren’t allowed to just break whatever laws we want, like illegals, and not suffer any repercussions. But you already knew that."

You have a legitimate grievance when it comes to affirmative action, but that's it. And illegals don't get punished for breaking the law? Go to jail and there are lots of illegals there. I mean, the ones that didn't get deported.

    "No, actually it’s immigration."

Not really. You get paid what you are worth. People in most of the World get paid $300 a month to flip burgers. You get paid 10 X more for doing the same job just because of a restricted job market. Immigration just brings your salaries to *realistic* levels. But of course you don't want realism: you want to earn more by restricting labor.

"They were never happy about it, though, and in the long run, it probably did make most of them worse off. And that was back when the immigrants were of higher quality than they are now."

They were not happy about it which is natural, but those immigrants created more jobs and technology in the long-run and was good for the country. The workers who protested against immigraton benefitted the most from it in the long-run.

"What explains the “plight” of all the people in Brazil and China I’m supposed to feel so sorry for? Are their “values” the reason they’re worse off than I am?"

This is irrelevant. The point is that get paid what they are worth. In America people with the same skills as those Brazilians in the favela get paid 10 X more than the Brazilians just because that kind of labor is scarcer in America.

"Well, the “average human” should just pull themselves up by their bootstraps and make more money, shouldn’t they? What’s wrong with them? Why are their values so bad?"

Again, irrelevant. We are talking about Americans and not people in those other countries. The fact is, those people are getting paid what they are worth for people at their skill level: Why should an American with exactly the same skills get paid 10 X more for the same job just because immigration laws restrict hiring labor from other countries?

I would just like to add that even charitably, Chinese-Americans are willing to cooperate and practice some nepotism, which whites do not and are not allowed to. When the Koreans, for example, funded each other and started small businesses through mutual sacrifice it was indeed admirable, but whites aren’t even allowed to play the same games.

This doesn’t seem fair by any measure.

The hip consensus is that season 10 was the turning point in quality but I've been rewatching recently and it wasn't until 13 that the occasional cringe started outweighing the classic material.

There had been a noticeable change in tone somewhere in there, with absurdist farce and a greater scope coming to dominate the down-to-earth and familial. I wouldn't be surprised if King of the Hill's appearance on the scene had a lot to do with it, and I'll gladly take that trade any day of the week.

Curious about later seasons but unwilling to forge through season 14 I've now started watching the episodes Bill Odenkirk wrote and they've been fairly decent thus far -- I particularly enjoyed LOVE IS A MANY STRANGLED THING as a defense of corporal punishment and corrective to the Puritanical/blank-slatist 'think of the innocent children!' mindset.

I’ve actually noticed a similar trend with corporations creating online content with harder left signals they know would alienate television viewers. A few years back Mattel created some online Barbie ads with a young boy who was obviously supposed to be gay/effeminate; they didn’t put in on TV but still got some Social Justice points with the left.

As for the Simpsons itself, I still watch occasionally. The first eight seasons are some of the greatest television ever and, while it’s obviously not close to the show it used to be, it’s still pleasant and occasionally shows flashes of the golden era. Overall it’s still less SJW compromised than most TV shows.

This. It's rare for any form of art to attain a sublime quality, rather than merely proficient or good. So regression to the mean is to be expected if said artists keep putting out more material. I don't mind at all that The Simpsons keep putting out stuff that is merely good, although it is a bit triggering at times.

They're still making new Simpsons episodes? Is Gunsmoke still on the air too?

Gunsmoke is still on the air. After I retired I sometimes watched it in the afternoon. The stories, set, characters etc are truly excellent.

BUT it is nothing but liberal propaganda. I soon noticed that almost every episode consisted of a stranger coming to town and the towns people didn’t like the stranger or strangers, After some problems the situation was resolved. And everyone learned a lesson that there is nothing wrong with strangers. It was basically the same thing as Star Trek in which every episode encountered strangers who turned out to be harmless.

the MST3k gang mocked the non-action of Coleman Francis' The Skydivers (1962) by intoning at the end "A stranger comes to town, touches no one's life, then leaves." Suggesting this is a "meme" or "trope" or cliche of scriptwriting, taught professionally. I wonder how far back it does go?

That's the message of tbe 1952 film, "Talk About a Stranger". Despite the liberal propaganda and the fact that it stars George Murphy and Nancy Davis, it's still well worth watching just for John Alton's ravishing cinematography.

“White death refers to RISING white mortality rates while other groups have lowered mortality rates. This is a new phenomenon.”

I am familiar with the research. The point is that people in our nation are dying for a host of reasons. It is tragic for ALL racial groups in our country. Figure out solutions for the causes for everyone.

Does every single show on TV have to be for shitlibs now?

I feel like I know the answer to this, but why can't they just make ONE sitcom that isn't?

Perhaps TV writers didn't notice, but Trump did actually win the election. Meaning that he's fairly popular. They really are just leaving money on the table by not making SOMETHING for the people who like him

And I know that they'll say that it's because Trump voters don't buy enough stuff from advertisers or something like that. But they have to have more money than black people, and they make shows specifically for them.

And I also know that, if they did make a show for them, they'd screw it up. It'd be a bunch of fat guys in MAGA hats yelling "Git-R-Done!" as they beat their wives or something. But the fact that they don't at least try makes it pretty obvious that it's just a question of spite.

Which, really, is probably a good thing, in the long run. Getting people out of the habit of watching TV is a good thing, and if the people in the media really do hate us (as they do), I guess it's nice to know it.

March through May is the traditional time that the big networks hire new TV writers through their various writing fellowships. It’s essentially recruitment season RIGHT NOW for the new crop of writers coming in post-election. The show currently airing were, for the most part, filmed prior to the election. So you need to account for that lag.

Variety ran a couple pieces back in February about how the networks were going to be specifically looking for conservative writers and pilots this year, due to the Trump victory.

I am familiar with the research. The point is that people in our nation are dying for a host of reasons. It is tragic for ALL racial groups in our country. Figure out solutions for the causes for everyone.

He was a black American. Witnesses said he went around stabbing people at random. He was arrested last month on a DWI and he'd been taking drugs and wrecked a car. He was a premed student at the university. This is why you shouldn't allow blacks into college who can't get good grades or get the same SAT scores as the white students. The scumbag wanted to be a doctor and he was abusing drugs. You know he'd end up being a pill-pusher, and I wouldn't be surprised if that was why he chose try for medicine in the first place, namely going into business as an in-house drug pusher. He appears to have been one of those overly ambitious but low functioning blacks who explode when he realizes he can't keep up with the other students.

I find her pallor problematic and the supremacist undertones of her chosen musical field deeply disturbing. Austrian academics should interrogate their culture for the hidden racial and religious bias of so-called “classical” music, which marginalizes contemporaneous styles found in Africa and elsewhere. The unbearable whiteness of the results of their curation of Austrian cultural products towards discriminating against contributions made by oppressed peoples should be resolved through targeted action.

I’m asking this informationally: why are you paying attention to new Simpsons episodes?
We need to withdraw from this poisonous and alien culture that hates us so much. This is already largly underway, helped by the fact that the current population of entertainment industry leaders are effectively the third generation that cannot retain the family wealth from the Chinese proverb.
We need to not even know who the hot new celebrity is. I would give an example but I’m already following my own advice. By all means watch a good entertainment that is worth your time (if you can find it), but never allow the glowing idol to take your attention for granted.

Haven't see a good post year 2000 episode yet. Certainly funny parts, but nothing as great as the first 8 seasons.

The hip consensus is that season 10 was the turning point in quality but I’ve been rewatching recently and it wasn’t until 13 that the occasional cringe started outweighing the classic material.

There had been a noticeable change in tone somewhere in there, with absurdist farce and a greater scope coming to dominate the down-to-earth and familial. I wouldn’t be surprised if King of the Hill’s appearance on the scene had a lot to do with it, and I’ll gladly take that trade any day of the week.

Curious about later seasons but unwilling to forge through season 14 I’ve now started watching the episodes Bill Odenkirk wrote and they’ve been fairly decent thus far — I particularly enjoyed LOVE IS A MANY STRANGLED THING as a defense of corporal punishment and corrective to the Puritanical/blank-slatist ‘think of the innocent children!’ mindset.

Alma Deutscher – that would be something like “The German Soul,” or “The Soul of Germany,” right? Given that her father is a prominent linguist, that’s presumably no accident.

Will she be the 21st Century’s Mendelssohn? Or will she burn out in a couple of years and never be heard from again?

Unfortunately, unlike Mendelssohn, she’s up against some really strong cultural headwinds – so I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

One gathers from the interview that she’s been an admirer of Richard Strauss practically from her cradle. But the Concerto finale sounds more like Johann Strauss – not that there’s anything wrong with that!

If she gives us anything comparable to the Mendelssohn Octet within the next five years, I’ll uncross my fingers.

Just would like to clarify that this was an online exclusive clip. They did not air this clip and do not plan to ever air it on TV.

I've actually noticed a similar trend with corporations creating online content with harder left signals they know would alienate television viewers. A few years back Mattel created some online Barbie ads with a young boy who was obviously supposed to be gay/effeminate; they didn't put in on TV but still got some Social Justice points with the left.

As for the Simpsons itself, I still watch occasionally. The first eight seasons are some of the greatest television ever and, while it's obviously not close to the show it used to be, it's still pleasant and occasionally shows flashes of the golden era. Overall it's still less SJW compromised than most TV shows.

This. It’s rare for any form of art to attain a sublime quality, rather than merely proficient or good. So regression to the mean is to be expected if said artists keep putting out more material. I don’t mind at all that The Simpsons keep putting out stuff that is merely good, although it is a bit triggering at times.

I had the impression for a while that philosophy was a relatively rational outpost within the increasingly crazy humanities fields. Is that becoming less so?

Everyone involved with this appears to be safely 100% on the Left. That makes it all the more fascinating that they're so gung-ho about the self-criticism, show-trial, witch-hunt aspect. Good intentions and self-abnegation are no excuse.

“I had the impression for a while that philosophy was a relatively rational outpost within the increasingly crazy humanities fields.”

Well, there’s philosophy, and then there’s philosophy, and then again there’s philosophy.

Briefly, there’s Anglo-American analytic philosophy, there’s Continental philosophy, and there’s Aristotelian/Thomistic Catholic philosophy.

(South & East Asian philosophy remains, so far, relatively negligible in the U.S.)

The first and the third are relatively rational outposts – so long as nothing remotely racial or sexual or political comes up. But the second is at least as crazy as anything else in the humanities.

It’s a long story. Hope that helps.

  62. The Simpsons was at one time the best show on tv. It’s sad to see what it’s become. It’s rare to see an episode post 12th season that’s any good. Why is it still on? Who can watch it’s lame attempts at humor in the past 16 seasons or so? Seinfeld knew when his show started to go downhill.

THE SIMPSONS is still on! Yeah, the logical part of my brain realizes this must be the case, since there would have been a long, drawn-out, self-congratulatory send-off even I would have heard of if they had finally announced they were wrapping things up.

Yet who the hell watches this thing? This isn't like BEATLE BAILEY running 50 years after the end of the Korean War or BLONDIE running 70 years after the end of Prohibition, because those two are newspaper comics that fill up space that is relatively cheap.

Should also point out that before it became "woke" (4 Presidential terms ago as a result of the Iraq Attaq) the show was quite subversive, though in that typically cloying, no-one-here-but-us-all-American-Thomas-Paine-inspired-America-loving-progressives here.

    * during the very beginning of the show (when, I might add, Homer was a pretty standard-issue responsible father figure and not the scene-stealing dumb jacka$$ he subsequently became) they made a point out of Bart with extreme disrespect calling him by his first name; all part of the hidden-rot-in-suburbia, childrens'-rights milieu of thought boomer creeps (including I'M WITH HER) used to be into before it was acknowledged for the horrible idea it was and then memory-holed
    * there was never any grandma on the show, but subsequently it was revealed she was a 60's radical bomb-thrower on the run- though such an idealistic nice one and, my gosh, those bombs weren't really meant to hurt anybody!

Back in the 1950's, if you were a white straight male, Society literally bended over backwards for you. You had a higher status assured by law, priority for getting jobs, the highest positions in government reserved for you, etc. What happened in the 1960's is not that white people were put in shackles, or relegated to second-class status.

    In other words,

Oh, the poor Anglo-Saxons are killing themselves because competition from immigrants has been so mean to them! Never mind the fact that nothing is stopping those white junkies from not taking drugs and trying to improve their lives.
    ————————————————–
Whites trying to improve their lives could cause a disparate impact and harm a member of the protected class which would violate the civil rights act of 1964. Perhaps whites should engage in sit-ins and accuse people of unrelated historical grievances because being productive and resourceful is not valued by our society.

It was basically the same thing as Star Trek in which every episode encountered strangers who turned out to be harmless.

the MST3k gang mocked the non-action of Coleman Francis’ The Skydivers (1962) by intoning at the end “A stranger comes to town, touches no one’s life, then leaves.” Suggesting this is a “meme” or “trope” or cliche of scriptwriting, taught professionally. I wonder how far back it does go?

Gunsmoke must've changed over the years. I watched a lot of the early seasons, and Dillon shoots somebody at least once every other episode.

It was basically the same thing as Star Trek in which every episode encountered strangers who turned out to be harmless.

Was just rewatching Enterprise recently. Season 3's the only thing worth it, an odd episode here and there aside. Season 4 is full-on hysterical Judaism. One of the arcs is about the evils of anti-interspecies-mating bigotry. They're so nuts about getting White Gentiles to miscegenate that they're willing to go one further and condemn opposition to humanity mixing with aliens, and we haven't even met the aliens yet.

When they left the studio after writing that, they probably went and protested the existence of GMOs.

There are youtube videos tallying the kills in the Rifleman. Over 200, many in the presence of Lucas’ son. How messed up he should have turned out, too bad no sequel.

Gilligan unbound is a decent book on the worldview of sixties shows like Star Trek, Gilligan etc. then show the change with X files and later shows.

  83. Marge’s pill bottle says “Prozac” rather than “Vicodin,” but we get the message: the last decade and a half of rising white death rates without anybody paying attention has been Trump fault’s.

What a stupid conclusion. A more obvious conclusion is that Trump’s constituency is largely composed of people who are suffering heavy evolutionary pressure. This pressure is applied in the form of lack of jobs suitable for anyone unlucky in intellect and pride.

Some say she is a mix between Schubert and Mozart. But actually I believe she is just Alma. Truly amazing. Check out intermezzo with Arik feutering Alma back in 2014. Stupid smartphone wont let me link. Btw we have the same because Hitler problem with Hamsun and Burzum up here in Ultima Thule. It is their loss.

He was a black American. Witnesses said he went around stabbing people at random. He was arrested last month on a DWI and he’d been taking drugs and wrecked a car. He was a premed student at the university. This is why you shouldn’t allow blacks into college who can’t get good grades or get the same SAT scores as the white students. The scumbag wanted to be a doctor and he was abusing drugs. You know he’d end up being a pill-pusher, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that was why he chose try for medicine in the first place, namely going into business as an in-house drug pusher. He appears to have been one of those overly ambitious but low functioning blacks who explode when he realizes he can’t keep up with the other students.

My God, it's a long time since The Simpsons was funny.

What Yak said. I tuned out in season 11 or 12 (2001 or 2002). We borrowed later seasons and by #13 it was increasingly torture.

That was about the same time The Onion ceased to be funny.

I keep thinking about John Stauber’s Counterpunch piece about how the Democratic party is a PR front for super rich elites who consolidated power in the party in the late 1990s.

  90. @Rod1963
Not Trump's fault but the GOP and Democrats along with their Wall Street masters who must take the blame.

The second stroke came with LBO's in the 80's that devastated old school American firms and sent millions to the unemployment lines.

In the 90's the GOP and Democrats joined together and pushed NAFTA, PNTR with China that gutted our industrial heartland and destroyed entire towns and families as well. 8 million plus, well paying jobs vanished forever. We're still bleeding jobs to Asia even today.

And during this time the H-1B frenzy began in the tech sector and spread to manufacturing plants as well. Oh lets not forget the illegal aliens welcomed in by both parties and the white elite.

And lets not forget affirmative action that helps freeze out white men from local, state and federal jobs.

When you add it all up, it's not surprising what has happened to white blue collars and middle-class. The only thing I am surprised at is that they haven't went nuts and started killing off the white upper classes along with the corporate and political classes that instigated it all.

Well, they got “noticed,” by electing Trump, haha!

Now, it will get hard to denigrate the workers of the Plains, Midwest, Mountain and South & North (by both parties) because more Millennials boys, in particular will be able to vote in the next election! And, they have had enough bashing. They’ve also gone deeper underground….become much more cynical.

And, on top of that, it is cruel and uncivilized to not recognize that the opiate addiction is directly linked to the destruction of manufacturing jobs in this country…so, blaming the victims is grotesque. If anything, we should all be blaming the Mexican drug runners/cartels/dealers; the porous borders; along with the global elites who outsourced the decent jobs/closed the plants. Well, when more upper income kids start dying, then stuff might happen…especially when they can’t find work with their BA in liberal arts. Depression is a bitch.

And, as a mother of sons, boys/young men smelled that hatred of white boys, the incessant stereotyping of boys, the sidelining of boys. The bashing: (bashing of football, so-called bro’culture, fratty frats; rape culture bs; white privilege bs; bashing of “gamers”; efforts to feminize SV; liberals trying to destroy the last merit-based institutions; and the constant condescension, and use of derogatory terms to describe blue collar men, computer adept boys, guys who like sports, American soldiers.

However, right now, he is being obstructed, but what’s the upside of obstructing him, ridiculing him? Nothing – it will hurt the elites and liberals just as much…they’re so blind to this. Destroying the middle class destroys them, too, one way or another. Somebody has to pay the taxes.

Everybody who isn't a non-white or a leftist is an "Anglo-Saxon" now, I guess. Funny though, "racists" have been saying this sort of thing about blacks, others, since forever, and Nick Diaz calls it "hate."

They have volition to decide about their lives.

    Unlike blacks.

Never mind that white Americans still have a standard of living that is higher than 99.9% of everyone in the World.

Sorry, did we disturb your "save the non-white poor!" rally, or something?

With any luck, one day your muggers will say something like this to you.

Nick took cankles' "breaking up the big banks won't stop racism, or sexism, or homophobia?" thing to heart.

Seriously, that's the argument: "it's okay that your life is worse today than it was yesterday, because somebody else's is even worse." No wonder the Democrats have been losing so badly since 2010.

"Hey blackie, no civil rights for you, there are slaves in Myanmar."

“Seriously, that’s the argument: ‘it’s okay that your life is worse today than it was yesterday, because somebody else’s is even worse.’ No wonder the Democrats have been losing so badly since 2010.

“’Hey blackie, no civil rights for you, there are slaves in Myanmar.’”

An important point, well put. When a lefty comes up against an undeniable injustice done to a white guy, his last refuge is to retort: “Emmet Till had it worse! Anne Frank was holocausted! Stop whining!”

Anything to avoid the point that injustice was done.

“She sounds like she’s trying our for My Fair Lady when she speaks…”

So how would you like her to speak?

“A mishmash of bad Mozart and a bunch of other romantics.”

There’s nothing Mozartean about this piece.

And Mozart was not a “romantic.”

Do you really know anything whatsoever about the great 18th & 19th century composers? If so, you show no sign of it.

“…encouraging this child to think her productions are wunderbar and amazing is sick.”

Totally disagree. For an eleven year old, what she’s accomplished is, precisely, wunderbar and amazing.

Well, like I said – she’s up against some pretty strong cultural headwinds.

Guys like you scare me. Short on understanding, long on malice.

    Why? What makes you run?

  94. @anon

“Last Man Standing” on ABC has a bit of a right/pro-Trump tilt. “Blue Bloods” on CBS is another that tilts right with most of the main characters. Although immigration is treated with kid gloves, the show isn’t bashful about portraying black crime.

Not really that many, to be honest.

Go tell some Chinese kid working in a sweat shop 18 hours a day just to eat that white Americans have it bad. Go ask some kid dying from Kwashiorkor in Senegal if white Americans have it bad.

“Not really that many, to be honest.”

Yes, there are. My family is poor, and my sister got into Cornell without quotas. I graduated with a masters degree in chemical engineering at 21 from a top #20 ranked university.

“We know. We know we’ve made a country that’s better than all of theirs. That’s why we get so annoyed when people like the Diaz family come here to leech off of us and then tell us that we’re oppressing them.”

I do not owe you *anything*. No one gave me or my family anything at all. Everything we have, we got with hard work and dedication. You did not “build” the affluence that American Society had in the 1950’s. That was built by intelligent and industrious white people, who are innately different from blue-collar whites. You just benefitted from the wealth created by them and got paid 10 X more than people doing the same work in other parts of the World. Why aren’t you building that wealth now? Why aren’t blue-collar white Americans creating companies and inventing technology? Oh, that’s right, because they can’t.

“We earned them by being the civilization that created them.”

You did not create anything. Your betters created it. You just benefitted from it.

“Wow. Society literally “bended”. I would have loved to see that.”

Don’t play dumb. You know that is metaphorical speech.

“It actually treats us worse. We don’t get affirmative action. We aren’t allowed to just break whatever laws we want, like illegals, and not suffer any repercussions. But you already knew that.”

You have a legitimate grievance when it comes to affirmative action, but that’s it. And illegals don’t get punished for breaking the law? Go to jail and there are lots of illegals there. I mean, the ones that didn’t get deported.

    “No, actually it’s immigration.”

Not really. You get paid what you are worth. People in most of the World get paid $300 a month to flip burgers. You get paid 10 X more for doing the same job just because of a restricted job market. Immigration just brings your salaries to *realistic* levels. But of course you don’t want realism: you want to earn more by restricting labor.

“They were never happy about it, though, and in the long run, it probably did make most of them worse off. And that was back when the immigrants were of higher quality than they are now.”

They were not happy about it which is natural, but those immigrants created more jobs and technology in the long-run and was good for the country. The workers who protested against immigraton benefitted the most from it in the long-run.

“What explains the “plight” of all the people in Brazil and China I’m supposed to feel so sorry for? Are their “values” the reason they’re worse off than I am?”

This is irrelevant. The point is that get paid what they are worth. In America people with the same skills as those Brazilians in the favela get paid 10 X more than the Brazilians just because that kind of labor is scarcer in America.

“Well, the “average human” should just pull themselves up by their bootstraps and make more money, shouldn’t they? What’s wrong with them? Why are their values so bad?”

Again, irrelevant. We are talking about Americans and not people in those other countries. The fact is, those people are getting paid what they are worth for people at their skill level: Why should an American with exactly the same skills get paid 10 X more for the same job just because immigration laws restrict hiring labor from other countries?

I agree that overdosing is bad, but in the clip she only gulped two pills. It would be uncharacteristic of her to casually down an entire bottle.

P.S., I can’t believe I’m expending this much thought profiling Marge Simpson.

I meant that if Steve’s interpretation were correct she would have sickened or died. I agree that she didn’t do anything particularly unhealthful in the video – which is why “This clip is about death” seemed like a dubious claim.
