From Sports Illustrated:
Lia Thomas was the dominant force in women’s college swimming this season. The records she set may be broken one day, but her poise in the face of a debate over transgender athletes was a lasting statement for equality
… The shy senior economics major from Austin became one of the most dominant college athletes in the country and, as a result, the center of a national debate—a living, breathing, real-time Rorschach test for how society views those who challenge conventions.
… In her first year swimming for the Penn women’s team after three seasons competing against men, Thomas throttled her competition. She set pool, school and Ivy League records en route to becoming the nation’s most powerful female collegiate swimmer. Photos of Thomas resting at a pool wall and waiting for the rest of the field to finish have become a popular visual shorthand of her dominance.
… Thomas says she has ambitions to compete beyond college, which could set her on a course to be Ledecky’s teammate at the 2024 Games in Paris—and perhaps challenge Ledecky’s Olympic records.
… Thomas’s story has also become a right-wing obsession, a regular topic of discussion on Fox News. Conservative opinion sites have called her a man and deadnamed her, purposely using the name she went by before transitioning.
Probably to a lot of progressives, Thomas is like Putin is to some American conservatives: My enemies’ enemy has to be a good person, right?
Her moves have been minutely tracked by the U.K.’s Daily Mail, including once with cruel detail about her habits in the women’s locker room provided by an anonymous teammate.
… She won’t criticize teammates she knows are rooting against her. “I don’t look into the negativity and the hate,” she says.
It appears as if the young women who are being forced to share a locker room with this man hate him.
“I am here to swim.”
These sound like the swimmer’s version of the ballplayer cliches that Kevin Costner teaches Tim Robbins to use with sportswriters in Bull Durham.
Every day this season felt like a challenge to her humanity. Part of her wanted people to know her journey to this moment, to know what it felt like to be in a body but not be of that body. She wanted people to know what it was like to finally live an authentic life and what it meant for her to finish a race, to look up at a timing board and see the name LIA THOMAS next to the names of other women.
On top of the names.
What it meant to her to stand on a podium with other women and be counted as an equal.
To stand on the top step supreme over the inferiors.
She finds it hard to explain the feelings creeping into her mind at that time, only that she began to have concerns about how she viewed herself—feelings that would emerge more and more often as she competed in her first college season.
It’s not that hard to explain the autogynephilia fetish, it’s just creepy, hilarious, and embarrassing. So nobody in the MSM ever talks about. The New York Times has used “autogynephila” or “autogynephilic” three times in its history and the Washington Post once.
… She was paired with a trans mentor through a group on Penn’s campus.
Mentor = recruiter.
… The Quakers’ women’s roster has 37 swimmers. Those close to the team estimate that Thomas has six to eight adamant supporters, maybe half the team opposes her competing against other women and the rest have steered clear of the debate. An unsigned letter, which the university said represented “several” Penn swimmers and was released through the school in early February, said Thomas was “value[d] as a person, teammate and friend” and took aim at the stories circulating about her. “The sentiments put forward by an anonymous member of our team are not representative of the feelings, values and opinions of the entire Penn team.”
Two days later, 16 Penn teammates sent an unsigned letter to Ivy League officials, requesting that Thomas be held out of the conference championship meet.
In other words, women swimmers hate him, but are afraid of being cancelled. But the bureaucrats at Penn and the Ivy League are all for him.
… BEING TRANS, THOMAS says, is “an amazing and beautiful experience. . . . I’ve been reinvigorated. I’ve been swimming for 17 years, but for [only] a short part of that time have I felt fully engaged.”
“I, Lia Thomas, didn’t feel fully engaged in men’s swimming because I kept getting my ass kicked by faster guys.
“But now that I compete against girls, it’s awesome because, finally, I am The Man.”
This guy has the need-to-dominate of a Michael Jordan, but not the talent. The Farrelly Brothers produced a movie about a similar competitor:

RSS

The bureaucrats are afraid of being cancelled too; perhaps more so, because their cushy jobs (with full healthcare and retirement) are on the line.

Rather than focusing entirely on the content of this heavily-promoted narrative, sometimes it's helpful to step outside of that particular aspect of hyperreality and ask why the major narrative promotion agencies are so focused on this particular individual, and on the broader campaign to promote transsexualism?
This might be a clue:
The shy senior economics major from Austin became one of the most dominant college athletes in the country and, as a result, the center of a national debate—a living, breathing, real-time Rorschach test for how society views those who challenge conventions.
That's a sneaky one there. A deliberately inexact analogy*. What's a Rorschach test again? Oh yeah -- it's an abstract, semi-random pattern that doesn't actually represent anything in particular, but you're supposed to imagine what you think it looks like. As far as we can determine from the "news" media narratives focused on him, William "Lia" Thomas is definitely not an abstract pattern, but an actual, biological human. Implicit message: the external, directly observable reality in front of you doesn't matter; whether you think the "correct" thoughts (or blasphemous ones) about it does.
"Narrative >> reality" -- a key message of the transsexualism craze. "Reality isn't really real -- only what we tell you is real, isreal."
But there's another message intrinsic to the "Transsexualism is Great! And you MUST celebrate it!" campaign that's a little less obvious -- the "We've always been at war with Eastasia!" one:
1. Narrative shift: William learns to reject his evil material masculine nature*, and gets in touch with his purely spiritual "feminine spiritual essence," thus "transitioning" into a "woman" via some magical/ metaphysical process governed entirely by an act of will. [Just read some gender theory/ queer theory stuff. Hormones, genital mutilation surgery, etc. are commonly utilized by those who decide to "identify" as a member of the opposite sex -- but it's the magic process of "identifying" that really matters.]
2. Retcon:"Lia" was always "Lia" -- William never existed.
3. It's a "crime" to mention that step 1 or step 2 ever happened. No, I'm not exaggerating.
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=deadnaming+hate+crime&ia=web
Seems like a pretty useful mode of thought to impose via heavily-promoted media/ "educational" indictrination: "Who ya gonna believe? The current narrative [which has always been in place], or your lyin' eyes?" Just believe the new narrative, and forget the old one.
*See also Thomas throttled "her" competition -- the mental image created by that phrase is clearly the result of a deliberate troll. He understands how analogies work.
**Obviously there are strong parallels with Kabbalah as well as gnosticism.

Isn't it enough that you got to keep the money, and never got prosecuted? Can you please back off just a little bit? And Zelensky -- can't you at least pretend that you've never even heard of your mentor/ sponsor/ boss? It would really help."]
Nope, that’s not how it goes. It’s “The enemy of my enemy is my friend” (self-referential link to recent Peak Stupidity post with that very expression here), and it often doesn’t work out so well in the long run. Take the USSR and the Mujahideen… please!
I don’t know any Conservatives who think Vlad Putin is a good person. It’s just that he has been fighting the Globohomo (even the very stuff this post is about), so we support him in that. That’s all. Simple.
Do you think this Sports Illustrated really thinks Mr. Thomas is a good guy? No, what’s sick in the excerpts here is that the magazine is so obviously and purposefully acting as if the laws of nature are not in place anymore. The writing is done in that same Communist-style way in which they KNOW damn well they are lying straight to your face, Steve*, they know that there’s no way you really believe that this most important fact about this “woman swimmer” is not important, so they know you know they are lying, and yet they push this stupidity on you to humiliate you.

* Not mine, as why would I bother with reading SI anymore, even if I did follow sports, after seeing the lies, and not only that, fat chicks in the swimsuit issue? I know reading things like this is part of your job and do appreciate the commentary.
That was funny stuff! Funny cause it’s true.
I’ve never seen The Ringer, but I was amazed when I checked that it’s from only 17 years back. No way could that be made now.
In one of the many articles on Lia Thomas that I’ve seen in the last month or so, somebody suggested using the term “gender theft” to describe the phenomenon of a man pretending to be a woman in order to compete and win against women.

As the saying goes: all that it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. Then again, how many college bureaucrats are good? Or men?
Anyway, it’s time for me to trigger all the Unz.com snowflakes: I support Lia not because I think he’s a girl but because competitive women’s sports are bullshit. He is making a mockery of what was already a mockery well before his birth.
But this looks like a case of evil harming something of marginal value. We should get rid of the bad thing on its own terms, not give evil more purchase in society.

Then there's the attention and adoration society at large showers autogynephiles with. Believe it or not, they find that validation sexually gratifying as well. Of course, they also enjoy other aspects of it, such as financially benefitting from the whole thing, but the fetish is their main driving force. Usually Blanchard's writing gets mentioned in relation with, but "Anne" Lawrence, himself an autogynephile, also gives a pretty good insight into the kinds of things autogynephiles get off on (including some kinds of validation and inclusion that would seem innocuous to most people, but are very much sexual to the autogynephile), and how dedicated they are to constantly chasing that thrill. Once you understand the nature and force of the fetish, nothing that autogynephiles do, or that the trans movement gets up to, is surprising or confusing anymore.
Swimming is more or less incidental here, just a means of obtaining the sexual gratification and societal adulation. If Thomas cared about the sport itself, or enjoyed honest competition, he never would've started hormones and would've kept competing with other men. After all, it's not as if he suffers from any kind of dysphoria, as is obvious from poolside photos, though only the Daily Mail published the bulge pics, so much of the public probably assumes the poor dear has had the operation.
In reality, of course, the vast majority of today's MtFs aren't dysphoric in the slightest. Even among the small minority of them who do go through with the penis inversion there's a considerable number that are not dysphoric, but simply porn addicted perverts chasing that sissy hypno thrill a step too far, only to find out that propaganda about the wonders of the neovagina is a sham and the sexual gratification they once got from their fetish is largely a thing of the past. How very tragic.
Hey, weird. I just started reading the M. Stanton Evans book about Joe McCarthy, Blacklisted by History, yesterday.

I think the Solomonic solution for NCAA is to insist on mandatory castration, and not a surgical procedure, performed by a XX-person high priestess, in order for an XY-person to compete against XX-persons in any sport.
Your suggestion, though barbaric, is not completely crazy. A male who wishes to convert to Judaism must be/come circumcised. To have skin in the game, so to speak.
I knew a mohel who was asked to convert a fellow, in a hospital setting. Traditionally, the mohel tries to discourage the wanna-be Jew: "Are you nuts? Do you really want to be the subject of constant bashing on UR?!" The candidate was insistent. The assisting nurse then pointed out that the fellow was a psyche outpatient.Replies: @kaganovitch

So instead I’ll address this statement:
“In other words, women swimmers hate him”
Do they actually hate him? Because it seems to me they would prefer merely not to have to associate with him. Remember freedom of association guys? Guys? The word “hate” is now just a smear term, and it wouldn’t surprise me if a word like “lovephobic” started appearing in news articles.
One of the cultural diseases that came out of the civil rights era is that our betters reflexively believe than a minority – of virtually any kind – is inherently more moral and worthy of their support than the rest of the population. So despite the fact that Thomas has glaring biological advantages over his chosen competition, they are celebrating this faux female as some kind of pioneer regardless of the feelings of a majority of biological female competitors and the public.
They love to lecture the country on ‘our democracy’ and the importance of every possible vote being counted to ensure a more representative and inclusive country, but when it comes to World War T this principle goes right out the window – in fact, every resource must be brought to bear to squash voices or outcomes that accurately represent the majority opinion.
It's also a way of passing off the responsibility for past national sins onto others, even though the elites of the time were mostly the ones responsible for those sins. Their "morality" on social issues is also a way of papering over their immorality on everything else.
The whole "democracy" bit is an open and obvious fraud. Yes, they want everyone and everything to vote, because the more marginal the better for team-minority.
But they don't actually want "democracy"--the people ruling at all. They want to impose what they want ... and the people often "vote wrong". That's why the Supreme Court fights have gotten both important and bitter. It's the route they have chosen to impose minoritarianism. For example, in no state of the union did the people actually vote in homosexual marriage--despite the incessant propaganda. So they just imposed it via the courts--then nationwide by the Supreme Court.
The whole "democracy" sham is apparent in Europe too. Where sane politicians who actually want their people to survive win elections--ex. Hungary, Poland--they go after them and their normie polices as "undemocratic".Replies: @The Anti-Gnostic

Anyone care to guess what “the rest” really think of Thomas the Tank Engine?
This article is emblematic of the way I struggle with this issue.
Not because I struggle with the concept of “trans rights”. No, I am against those, at least as far as the word “rights” is used as euphemism for “special privilege”.
What I struggle with is UNDERSTANDING THE DAMN ARTICLE BECAUSE THE PRONOUNS ARE INCORRECT. Lia Thomas may call himself a woman and give himself a new female name, but Lia Thomas is, and always will be, a man. My brain cannot comprehend this in any other way, so when I read an article like this that keeps referring to “her” and “she” it is very confusing. My brain keeps having to go back and look for an antecedent of the appropriate sex. I literally cannot easily process the idea of referring to a man using female pronouns.
This is why the “pronoun battles” are so important. Orwell understood this. Language drives thought and humiliating falsehoods such as these weaken the spirit. It’s not just a minor spat over “courtesy”, it’s the entire war itself.
Despite the small number of these people (although apparently with all the publicity, more taking this route) the issue won’t go away. I’m tired of it. I was tired of it long ago.
I have it on good authority that Leo Thomas Is pledging Sigma Chi and this is all elaborate fraternity hazing
Since they won’t take a stand, who cares what his teammates think? But why aren’t other schools’ teams and coaches up in arms, or are they too busy recruiting from their men’s teams?
Let’s hear from the girl who didn’t make the cut or get a scholarship because of him, if there is one.
Dear NCAA,I would like to address this past week’s events and express my thoughts. First, I would like to remind everyone that I am a human being and that as a human being I experience feelings and emotions. My name is Reka Gyorgy from Hungary. I am a 2016 Rio Olympian, represented Virginia Tech for the past 5 years, a 2 time ACC Champion, 2 time All-American and 3 time Honorable Mention All-American.With all due respect, I would like to address something that is a problem in our sport right now and hurting athletes, especially female swimmers. Everyone has heard and known about transgender, Lia Thomas, and her case including all the issues and concerns that her situation brought into our sport. I’d like to point out that I respect and fully stand with Lia Thomas; I am convinced that she is no different than me or any other D1 swimmer who has woken up at 5am her entire life for morning practice. She has sacrificed family vacations and holidays for a competition. She has pushed herself to the limit to be the best athlete she could be. She is doing what she is passionate about and deserves that right. On the other hand, I would
like to critique the NCAA rules that allow her to compete against us, who are biologically women.I’m writing this letter right now in hopes that the NCAA will open their eyes and change these rules in the future. It doesn’t promote our sport in a good way and I think it is disrespectful against the biologically female swimmers who are competing in the NCAA.I swam the 500 free at NCAA’s on March 17th, 2022 where I got 17th which means I didn’t make it back to the finals and was first alternate. I’m a 5th year senior, I have been top 16 and top 8 before and I know how much of a privilege it is to make finals at a meet this big. This is my last college meet ever and I feel frustrated. It feels like that final spot was taken away from me because of the NCAA’s decision to let someone who is not a biological female compete. I know you could say I had the opportunity to swim faster and make the top 16, but this situation makes it a bit different and I can’t help but be angry or sad. It hurts me, my team and other women in the pool. One spot was taken away from the girl who got 9th in the 500 free and didn’t make it back to the A final preventing her from being an All-American. Every event that transgender athletes competed in was one spot taken away from biological females throughout the meet. The NCAA knew what was coming this past week. They knew opinions and minds will be divided and chose to do nothing. This week has been more about reporters, media and division in our sport than things like two women going under 21 seconds in the 50 freestyle, 3 women going under 50 seconds in the 100 butterfly and the first woman IN HISTORY to go under 48 seconds in the 100 backstroke. Thursday was not a specific athlete’s fault. It is the result of the NCAA and their lack of interest in protecting their athletes. I ask that the NCAA takes time to think about all the other biological women in swimming, try to think how they would feel if they would be in our shoes. Make the right changes for our sport and for a better future in swimming.Thank you for reading,Reka Gyorgy, Virginia Tech swimmer
How can I put this delicately – does Ms Thomas still have the advantage of a rudder?
Isn’t the Lia Thomas case a little unusual for someone with autogynephilia? My understanding of Ray Blanchard’s clinical observations is that heterosexual autogynephilic transexuals tend to transition in middle age after having lived conventionally masculine lives such as wife, kids and a conventionally masculine career. (ex: tech, engineering, military etc.) Homosexual transexuals (non-autogynephillic) tend to express an interest in transitioning in one’s teens or early adulthood much like Lia Thomas.
Are men with autogynephilia expressing an interest in transitioning at younger ages now due to greater societal acceptance and even celebration? What’s going on?

when people try to change their sex like this, do they ever endeavor to change their sexual preference? As a new girl, will this guy chase guys, or girls? The news reports say he stays heterosexual.
So here’s your new question: why would the straight girls he’s attracted to be interested in an ugly lesbian? Or, if he is going to become homosexual, why would other gay men be interested in an ugly lesbian?
The conclusion is that he’s now confined himself to the attraction of other weirdos and psychos.
Gay men would be all over this guy.
If all of these young women refused to swim against him, the whole thing would be over in about five minutes. Refuse to share a locker room with him. Arrive in swimsuits covered over by sweats. When the race starts, just stand at the starting block and don’t dive in. When the meet is over, just put your sweats back on over your dry swimsuits and go home.
Game, set, match. The NCAA would be forced to address it, the IOC would be forced to address it, and 92% of the country would regard the young women as heroes. The response would be so overwhelmingly in their favor that very few colleges, employers, or advertisers would dare to try to cancel them. We are winning the war against this mental illness, and all we need is the coup de grace.

Because the elite thinks of themselves as a minority, too. In the case of Jews, of course that is accurate. But elite non-Jewish whites also feel quite a bit of joy looking down on their fellow whites.

I have wondered about that too and think the primary reason they don’t is fear of losing their scholarships. This is a result of Title IX and the youth sports racket. NCAA swimming produces very little revenue there is no reason for the women participating in it to get big scholarships, but they do because the schools are required to balance out the number they give the football team. Club swimming is an expensive way for parents to try and get their kids these scholarships. There are a certain percentage of these young women who are so woke they agree with this madness, a partial protest of refusing to compete would result in punishment for the protesters.
I actually did track in addition to football, and I remember thinking about the contrast between the events. I was out to dinner in LA on Wednesday with some Hollywood types, and after some uncharitable views of Power of the Dog were voiced, someone asked the biggest wig at the table what he thought of the Best Picture nominees this year in general.
He said, “These are movies nobody wants to see. Power of the Dog is a western for people who don’t like westerns. Drive my Car is three hours long.”
Someone said they’d nonetheless liked the latter movie. He replied, “It’s three hours long. My deal when I watch a movie is, up to an hour and forty minutes, I’m paying you. After that, you’re paying me. When you get to three hours, I’m pretty sure you actually owe me money for watching your movie.”

Anyway, Power of the Dog sounds like a very female movie by a woman who doesn't really get or particularly like men. Benedict Cumberbatch keeps going on and on about toxic masculinity, and the subtext seems to be, if more men could be gay, maleness would be less "toxic." But gay men actually are quite non-feminine in their way (in addition to being socially corrosive, i.e., toxic). To “snaffle,” for those understandably not familiar with this British informal verb, means to quickly grab for oneself, usually without permission. So, I might say “I’m going to snaffle that last appetizer.” Recent events suggest to me that “snaffle” would be useful and now deserves to be expanded from its grab-the-appetizer sense, For example, “Lia thought she would snaffle an NCAA championship for herself.” “Putin thought he would snaffle Ukraine.”
Thomas complied with the NCAA rules and had been on hormone suppression for over a year. Since the Ivy Leagues did not have any sports in the 2020-2021 season, the Ivy League created the time for Thomas to comply with the rules. If the NCAA has tried to change the rules in the middle of the season, the lawsuit would have been automatic and been a huge loss for the NCAA, the Ivy League, and Penn.
Tyranny wins again.
The international rules require that a trans women be on hormone suppression for three years and with testosterone below a prescribed limit. One it is possible that in three years, Thomas tries out for the Olympic team as a woman.

Transgenderism has clearly turned into a disease of the month. Ten years ago most people had never known even one person with the condition. Now suddenly they're everywhere. This sort of thinking was once anathema here.
When people say “you love Putin” I want to ask why they hate him so.
Because he invaded Ukraine and it’s a moral outrage, dummy, they will say.

It’s sexual. Autogynephiles are turned on by women’s discomfort and get gratification from those women having to (i.e. being forced to) validate them as women. In Thomas’s case, the pleasure is twofold. There’s the discomfort he causes by competing, and there’s the exhibitionism and voyeurism of sharing a changing room with those women. The sexual thrill of it all must be immense.
Then there’s the attention and adoration society at large showers autogynephiles with. Believe it or not, they find that validation sexually gratifying as well. Of course, they also enjoy other aspects of it, such as financially benefitting from the whole thing, but the fetish is their main driving force. Usually Blanchard’s writing gets mentioned in relation with, but “Anne” Lawrence, himself an autogynephile, also gives a pretty good insight into the kinds of things autogynephiles get off on (including some kinds of validation and inclusion that would seem innocuous to most people, but are very much sexual to the autogynephile), and how dedicated they are to constantly chasing that thrill. Once you understand the nature and force of the fetish, nothing that autogynephiles do, or that the trans movement gets up to, is surprising or confusing anymore.
Swimming is more or less incidental here, just a means of obtaining the sexual gratification and societal adulation. If Thomas cared about the sport itself, or enjoyed honest competition, he never would’ve started hormones and would’ve kept competing with other men. After all, it’s not as if he suffers from any kind of dysphoria, as is obvious from poolside photos, though only the Daily Mail published the bulge pics, so much of the public probably assumes the poor dear has had the operation.
In reality, of course, the vast majority of today’s MtFs aren’t dysphoric in the slightest. Even among the small minority of them who do go through with the penis inversion there’s a considerable number that are not dysphoric, but simply porn addicted perverts chasing that sissy hypno thrill a step too far, only to find out that propaganda about the wonders of the neovagina is a sham and the sexual gratification they once got from their fetish is largely a thing of the past. How very tragic.

At any given school, the fifty best male swimmers should be determined. Then, the low ranking 25-50 male swimmers should don women’s suits, demand to compete as women, and replace all of the best female swimmers, who statistically swim at only about 90% the pace of the best men.
Then, they should insist on wearing male swim trunks, so as to compete on an even playing field so to speak, and since when are women’s fashions not purely a woman’s choice?
Now, swim meets would consist of watching the best male swimmers, who are the best swimmers.
Inevitably, this would be contested all the way to the Supreme Court, as a Title IX violation. But by that time, our newest Supreme would have convinced the others that there is no such thing as “woman” anyway.
Back to normal! These things always go in cycles.

Yes. Women are competitive, but not as competitive as men. Women’s athletics have very little of the amped-to-the-max atmosphere of male locker rooms. So losing to a man is not as big a deal as it would be to a man whose competitor cheated in some way. Women’s athletics are more congenial than men’s.

Two of the best known former athletes in that sport are married to each other. When they had a kid I asked what college team their kid would compete for. They answered with the team they most hated as a joke.

“Thomas’s story has also become a right-wing obsession”
Isn’t it in reality a left-wing obsession?
To progressives perhaps. But to me as a conservative it’s more like what Kissinger said of the long Iran-Iraq War. “It’s a pity both sides can’t lose.”
I’m not sure you should be pounding so hard on the autogynephila thing. It’s an interesting idea, but it’s speculative, and may not be right, or may not be right for every case. By committing to one particular explanation for the condition you lose anyone who doesn’t find that explanation convincing. The thing is, it doesn’t so much matter why some men fell compelled to have themselves castrated — the important thing is that, whatever the reason for it, the compulsion should be recognized as a tragic mental illness, one that should under no circumstances be celebrated.
Personally, if someone can convincingly pass as a women I guess I am (reluctantly) willing to say “she”, and treat her as a woman socially. But if she wants to compete physically against biological women, that’s when I’m going to say “whatever you may be mentally, physically you are not a woman, you are a man who has had surgery and hormone therapy, and if hearing that makes you feel bad, well I’m OK with that.”
Looks like the rules aren’t quite what we need.
So that’s the price of today’s world: either a huge payout or a ruined sports league?
Tyranny wins again.

insist on mandatory castration
Your suggestion, though barbaric, is not completely crazy. A male who wishes to convert to Judaism must be/come circumcised. To have skin in the game, so to speak.
I knew a mohel who was asked to convert a fellow, in a hospital setting. Traditionally, the mohel tries to discourage the wanna-be Jew: “Are you nuts? Do you really want to be the subject of constant bashing on UR?!” The candidate was insistent. The assisting nurse then pointed out that the fellow was a psyche outpatient.
A mohel doesn't do conversions. Conversions are done by a Bet Din(Religious Court) of at least three judges. The mohel just performs the circumcision on behalf of the court/Bet-Din.Replies: @Reg Cæsar, @Inquiring Mind

That’s nothing compared to the 8 hours it takes to play Penn & Teller’s Desert Bus
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penn_%26_Teller%27s_Smoke_and_Mirrors#Desert_Bus
The Ivy League (of which Penn is a member) gives no athletic scholarships. So they’d have nothing to take away. Ivy League schools take in lots of promising athletes every year who play a season or two and then decide they don’t want to play anymore. (The academic standards for athletes are pretty high; they’re real students who can and do take serious courses and get serious degrees (if somewhat skewed toward the social sciences).)
An friend of mine was an Ivy League tennis coach, and once I asked him about how many of his players got in because of their sports ability? Without hesitation, he replied, "They all did."
This is not to say that all Ivy athletes are dumb jocks, indeed there are a handful of brilliant ones, but overall they are exceptions.
You may want to review the notorious "Varsity Blues" scandal for details on how much power coaches at elite schools have to admit "student-athletes".
The lack of athletic scholarships is off-set by the perceived long-term career advantages of an Ivy League pedigree, and in the case of truly economically disadvantaged recruited athletes obtaining other types of funding is no problem. I recall Magic Johnson's sister was recruited to play basketball for Yale. Their father was a janitor in a Michigan high school. I doubt he could afford her Yale tuition, and I bet she wasn't accepted at Yale for her academic ability.Replies: @ScarletNumber, @Hibernian, @International Jew, @Guest007

That, and the popularity and availability of sissy hypno porn.
Another huge change due to these factors is that, while autogynephile transitioners used to disproportionately be intelligent, high achievers, and likely high testosterone, now you have tons of them who are disgusting, unwashed loser slobs like Chris Chan or that “Doreen” guy from the anti-work subreddit who showed off his ugly mug and dirty room on Fox News. The KiwiFarms forum documents these changes and the uptake of transgenderism among ever younger and ever more pathetic straight guys pretty well, in horrific detail. Things started changing about a decade ago.
Also, with previously female-only spaces and organizations like girl guides, hospital wards, shelters, toilets, locker rooms, prisons etc. becoming open to men who say they’re trans, all kinds of other perverts and predators (who don’t necessarily have autogynephilia but just want to take advantage of the kind of unprecedented access to defenseless women and children they never dreamed they’d have) are glomming on, at least part time. After all, in many places it’s now enough to say you’re trans, no estrogen taking required, and the definition of trans now includes people who say they feel they’re e.g. female on Tuesdays and Thursdays and male the rest of the time.

They are just disturbed people who only guaranteeing themselves more misery by spending the rest of their lives pretending to be something they aren't.
I think some number of devout Christians have found comfort in transgenderism as a form of denial. No, their son isn't really attracted to men. He's just really a girl on the inside. God just made a mistake assigning their chromosomes.
It's horrifying that we now have a purely mental condition the supposed remedy for which is mutilating perfectly healthy human bodies. The public doesn’t (yet) support all the lunatic tenets of transgender ideology, but it’s also of no help to people who stick their neck out. In the UK (dubbed TERF Island by trannies) transgenderism has been a highly visible political issue for a couple of years now. The British public is much more informed than Americans about stuff like hormones given to and mastectomies performed on minors, or rapes committed by transgender males in women’s prisons and hospital wards, about transgender males being given unfettered access to little girls, etc. There are stories in British papers titled “Woman rapes child/dog/mother” with a photo of a bloke in a wig every other day. Lots of people aren’t particularly happy these developments, but they’re also not about to do anything about them. People say “What a world we live in!” and change the channel. Some might let this issue affect their vote, but either way, the Tories are only getting to the same batshit place as Labour, SNP and all the rest of them, just a bit more slowly.
The public’s (and only part of the public’s, at that) passive disapproval of the insanity is of no help to those who publicly dissent, and are then questioned by police, detained for hours, their homes ransacked, charged with harassment (thought crime), hounded out of jobs and universities, depending on profession possibly unemployable going forward, sent threats, stalked, harassed on the street (with little to no help from the police, who sees them as the criminal). They easily destroyed Graham Linehan, who was a well off guy with connections. Most people are way more vulnerable to this treatment, and women in particular are easier targets for the threats, stalking and physical harassments and intimidation. Those girls should only make a stand if they’re prepared to take the risk of living with all of that crap going forward. The public’s not gonna help them.
And still, despite all the publicity and heated open conflict about it, the trans agenda in the UK keeps advancing.
And anyway… What has the British public done about Rotherham and the dozens and dozens of towns like it? Except keep heaping scorn on the only people who dared publicly speak about it (and received jailtime for their effort)? Meanwhile, things in those town continue as they have for decades now. What’s the public in France going to do about all the no-go zones, shootings, torture murders, truck attacks, decapitations, arson and all the other acts of war against them? Elect Macron a second time. What has the public throughout the West done about having their homelands stolen from them?
Do people like any of these things? Most don’t, sure. But what does it matter?
I don’t doubt it. Unsurprisingly this fact hasn’t been mentioned or even discussed/questioned in the media that I’ve consumed on the issue. This would explain why he still hasn’t had his junk cut off, which is another fact the media hasn’t gone out of it’s way to publicize.

Yes, those numbers are very telling: thanks.
A further anecdote from that dinner: the same guy discussed his conviction that the stated viewership numbers for Bridgerton–at I think like 90 million–are totally fake. “I’ve thought about and investigated this sort of thing a lot,” he said, which is certainly true, “and this is how you figure out viewership: with any film or show, however many people see it, a given percentage will comment on IMDB. And it’s always the same percentage. It’s an absolutely constant ratio in my experience, and the IMDB comments for Bridgerton are way lower than they should be.”
Then (and he said this sotto voce, after a good look around the room): “Ted [Sarandos, Netflix co-CEO and head of content] has an agenda, and he’s married to a black woman. That’s what’s going on here.”
They love to lecture the country on 'our democracy' and the importance of every possible vote being counted to ensure a more representative and inclusive country, but when it comes to World War T this principle goes right out the window - in fact, every resource must be brought to bear to squash voices or outcomes that accurately represent the majority opinion.Replies: @Anon, @Wilkey, @AnotherDad
It’s not just World War T. It’s every minority. It starts with Jews vs. gentiles, and blacks as the American justification/club. WWT is just the latest. But it’s ongoing and everywhere.
The whole “democracy” bit is an open and obvious fraud. Yes, they want everyone and everything to vote, because the more marginal the better for team-minority.
But they don’t actually want “democracy”–the people ruling at all. They want to impose what they want … and the people often “vote wrong”. That’s why the Supreme Court fights have gotten both important and bitter. It’s the route they have chosen to impose minoritarianism. For example, in no state of the union did the people actually vote in homosexual marriage–despite the incessant propaganda. So they just imposed it via the courts–then nationwide by the Supreme Court.
The whole “democracy” sham is apparent in Europe too. Where sane politicians who actually want their people to survive win elections–ex. Hungary, Poland–they go after them and their normie polices as “undemocratic”.
You could fill a book with all the ways democracy has been rendered a complete charade. One of the ways you know this is by hearing how shrill politicians and the sheep-citizenry get about ARE DUMBOCRACY. The more the corruption, the authoritarian control, the constant spying and data collection, the more we hear about ARE PRECIOUS FREEEDUMS.
People baffle me sometimes.

Unlike the plot summary I've seen for Power of the Dog, I can figure out from the plot summary for Drive My Car what it's about. Three hours of grieving and driving around? No thanks.
Even the drag queens seem to be hulking, the whole camp being the idea of this big, bearish guy all dolled up.Replies: @slumber_j
I haven’t seen either film and don’t plan to: I guess I’m one of the people my friend was talking about who don’t want to see these movies.
I’m not sure it’s as encouraging as it may seem: there are plenty of people in Hollywood who will talk that way in private, but strangely their opinions don’t seem to get much traction in the real world of making shows and movies. It’s really strange actually.
Modestly surprised it hasn’t happened yet. But i think it’s inevitable one of these clowns will eventually get a serious beat down.

Ignores the fact that lesbians tend to not care for men at all, including the gay ones, and not just in the sense of lack of sexual attraction. Sure lesbians might be more likely to really believe woke propaganda.
I actually did track in addition to football, and I remember thinking about the contrast between the events. Track meets were like long picnics in the sun, with competitors and both male and female athletes mingling with lots of down time. Football was like this intense symphony that just built and built until game day in an exclusively male, gladiatorial environment.Replies: @Hibernian, @Paleo Liberal, @SaneClownPosse
When and where were track meets coed? (I’m a Boomer, my last one was in 1971.)
Practically all track meets are coed in the sense that their are men and women there at the same time. They were when I was in high school and college in the early 90’s and they are now at my kids’ track meets in the local school district. Swim meets, too.
But the competitions themselves are not coed, the divisions are segregated by sex.
Let me tell you, you haven’t lived until you’ve had to sit through the JV girls shot put before they got to your own kid’s division.
Aren’t there athletic scholarships disguised as “whole person” scholarships, along with music, art, etc., scholarships under the same rubric? Can’t the athletic, musical, artistic, etc., talent at least partially substitute for grades and test scores?

Well, as a transgender woman, if he also becomes a lesbian then he is back to wanting girls, just like he did when he was a straight male. The difference being he now has permission to go nude in the women’s locker room. The question is, will one of the heterosexual female swimmers find him attractive and choose to have a sexual relationship with a transgender lesbian woman who still has male equipment? The plot thickens…
I think he’s referring to boys/girls events all being held at the same site with races/jumps/throws scheduled back to back over several hours, which allows for mingling. Not the events themselves being coed.

In the infield inside the track, waiting for events, opposing teams and male and female members of all of them, mingle and do their stretches and warm-ups. In the run-up to football matches, opposing and exclusively male teams wait inside their respective locker rooms playing (in my era) rock music and go out on opposite sides of the field to do their exclusive warm-ups.
It’s not that the meets are co-ed per se; rather, the boys meet and the girls meet are held simultaneously at the same venue to save on site rentals and officiating costs. They still compete separately and the scores are reported separately.
Like the US Open tennis tournament has separate men’s and women’s singles tournaments going on at the same time and place, while the US Open and US Women’s Open golf tournaments are are at different times and places. I’m not sure why.
Men and women pro golfers seldom marry because they don’t spend much time together, tennis stars sometimes do, and track and field athletes marry each other a lot. A track meet is kind of a hurry-up-and-wait event like filming a movie, another undertaking with lots of down time for flirting.
This is not what shy people do.

A mohel doesn’t do conversions. Conversions are done by a Bet Din(Religious Court) of at least three judges. The mohel just performs the circumcision on behalf of the court/Bet-Din.

The males in many mammal species are larger than the females. They need the extra strength to fight over women. (Seriously, I read that somewhere. No idea if it’s true. Seems plausible.)
Totally agree. The pronouns are jarring and confusing. And Thomas has not chosen “they.” You can barely follow the plot with the “they’s”.
Despite the small number of these people (although apparently with all the publicity, more taking this route) the issue won’t go away. I’m tired of it. I was tired of it long ago.
The people who are telling lesbians to drop out of college athletics because of Thomas are the same people who oppose same sex marriage, want to enforce sodomy laws, wanted to be able to discriminate against homosexuals in housing, employment, and education, and who want them to shut up about their sexuality.

The Olympics is not the rule setting organization. Each sports ruling body is what sets the rules. Currently swimming is controlled by the International Swimming Federation which has set a three year hormone suppression rule that the NCAA has said that it will follow.
What you write is only partially true. Every Ivy League varsity sports coach gets to pick recruits (the number varies depending on the size of the roster needed for the particular sport) for his/her sport, bypassing the usual admissions procedure, as long as the overall academic level of the team is at a reasonable level–which is well below the profile of the non-athlete admissions. In practice this means that it’s the athletic level of the recruited athlete that gets him/her into the school. Every year a coach may pick a few excellent, but not likely to play much, true student athletes to keep the team’s academic profile acceptable. Everyone at Ivy League schools is aware of this.
An friend of mine was an Ivy League tennis coach, and once I asked him about how many of his players got in because of their sports ability? Without hesitation, he replied, “They all did.”
This is not to say that all Ivy athletes are dumb jocks, indeed there are a handful of brilliant ones, but overall they are exceptions.
You may want to review the notorious “Varsity Blues” scandal for details on how much power coaches at elite schools have to admit “student-athletes”.
The lack of athletic scholarships is off-set by the perceived long-term career advantages of an Ivy League pedigree, and in the case of truly economically disadvantaged recruited athletes obtaining other types of funding is no problem. I recall Magic Johnson’s sister was recruited to play basketball for Yale. Their father was a janitor in a Michigan high school. I doubt he could afford her Yale tuition, and I bet she wasn’t accepted at Yale for her academic ability.
One needs to also remember, that only football, basketball, and hockey give full scholarships. They are referred to as headcount sports where every scholarship athlete gets a full scholarship. All other college sports can give partial scholarships. A good example is that men's basketball has 24 players but only 11.5 scholarships to give. That means that most players only get a partial scholarship. Another example is that the benefit of being on Duke's lacrosse team was getting into Duke, not a partial scholarship.
Lots of partial scholarship athletes or non-scholarships athletes do not compete for their entire time in college. As the non-scholarship long snapper at the University of Miami told me, it was either change majors or quit football. That is why for many athletes, the scholarship is not really that great a deal when it limits what one can major in or makes huge time demands.
you are ignoring the advantage in straight down the lane accuracy that accrues to those with a built in rudder.
“The question is, will one of the heterosexual female swimmers find him attractive and choose to have a sexual relationship with a transgender lesbian woman who still has male equipment?”
I watched a video that tackled this very theme (several times, in fact) and it turns out they do in fact have a sexual relationship. Don’t ask me how it ends though. cos I’ve never gotten to the end.
That’s more like it. This is what I am used to.
I do not know how the staffs at these colleges that have to act like these competitions are fair and mean something and are something for the school to be proud of can make themselves put on a constant act. I do not know how Lia’s teammates have put up with this all year — it has been such a source of negative emotions of all sorts to them and must have interfered with them concentrating on their schoolwork which they really care about at Penn, of course.
I wonder what kinds of grades Lia has been getting?
The situation is dreadful. I do not want movies to die out but I am so afraid that is where we are headed. Are there any younger directors of studio films who we can say will succeed the current crop who are not known for cartoon and special effects movies?
Do people under 40 still want to see what I call real movies? Will we even be able to keep making small independent films or will audience choices and economics make that impossible too? God help theater for the future generations, too.
The Ivies are giving athletic scholarships like that just calling them other names. Plus a swimmer from Penn who protested would risk her standing among her peers at school. Not many are going to be willing to throw that away.

Dear NCAA,
I would like to address this past week’s events and express my thoughts. First, I would like to remind everyone that I am a human being and that as a human being I experience feelings and emotions.
My name is Reka Gyorgy from Hungary. I am a 2016 Rio Olympian, represented Virginia Tech for the past 5 years, a 2 time ACC Champion, 2 time All-American and 3 time Honorable Mention All-American.
With all due respect, I would like to address something that is a problem in our sport right now and hurting athletes, especially female swimmers. On the other hand, I would
like to critique the NCAA rules that allow her to compete against us, who are biologically women.
I’m writing this letter right now in hopes that the NCAA will open their eyes and change these rules in the future. It doesn’t promote our sport in a good way and I think it is disrespectful against the biologically female swimmers who are competing in the NCAA.
I swam the 500 free at NCAA’s on March 17th, 2022 where I got 17th which means I didn’t make it back to the finals and was first alternate.
Make the right changes for our sport and for a better future in swimming.
Thank you for reading,
Reka Gyorgy, Virginia Tech swimmer

Sure, the admission standards for athletes aren’t quite what they are for prospective physics majors. But the point is that unlike State U, an Ivy won’t take away your scholarship if you quit the team. So if, as the commenter upthread suggested, Lia’s teammates quit in protest, they’ll be able to continue their studies as before (in fact with about four hours a day more time to study).
Many of the Ivies and other top colleges give extremely generous financial aid packages. A working class kid can get a full ride including room and board. Middle class kids can pay substantially less than a state school. The rich folks pay the whole bill, but their athlete is in an Ivy.
Coaches are often given X number of spots to fill. As long as the student meets certain minimum requirements, admission is almost automatic.
When athletes quit the team they keep their admissions, as well as any financial aid packages.
They don’t even have to show up for the team in the first place. That is how certain wealthy families were able to bribe coaches. The coaches would give up one coveted spot on the team in exchange for some cash.
Well, probably not. If you want to talk seriously about a man’s disadvantages swimming, you’d start with the wider shoulders (more drag) and the higher density (resulting in more of the body submerged thus once again more drag).
Exactly why men are faster in the water than women is not so clear at all. Swimming isn’t a strength sport; you can find a youtube video featuring a former swimming olympian doing pushups and he’s a total wimp. Endurance is important, though again top swimmers aren’t so impressive at running or biking (though the ones who can run end up cleaning up at triathlon because in the water they blow away those of their competitors who come from the running and biking worlds).

We are ruled by the Executive and Judicial branches. Congress is nowhere to be found. They hold hearings, which are pure theater, speechify, campaign and peddle influence. Democrats vote for laws to benefit their tax-eater constituents. Republicans vote for laws to benefit their donors. Cities are maintained by federal money as reliable Democratic vote-banks.

The pathway toward reviving family formation and fertility rates in the West is a revival of gender roles. Gender integration in sports—ironically—helps encourage gender roles by creating a space (physical sports) for men to excel and be admired by woman. It makes clear to women that the sexes are not the same, and also removes from the female sex the time and attention suck of participating in sports.
People are stupid to fight this trans sports trend.

Incomparably sad. The very few who are by nature really close to the line between male and femalw should have counseling to deal with it, not hormones to push them in the opposite direction of what their bodies indicate. OK. Same question: why does the ISF use such an arcane, game-able test? Why not just test for that singular chromosome in every one of the 10 trillion cells in a male human body?
My hypothesis is it would reveal an embarrassingly high number of “female” athletes are actually biological males with androgen uptake issues which result in a somewhat effeminate appearance, malformed genitals, undescended testicles, etc., like the world’s top three 800-meter runners and WNBA star “Brittney” Griner, who’s affect and voice is of a laid back, pot-smoking dude.
Caster Semenya, of course, could have tried out for collegiate-level cornerback somewhere if someone had steered him into American football early enough. the term that I heard the President of a NCAA Division III school use was “tip” in that recruited athletes are given admission tips. Since the Division III school and the Ivy league do not give athletic scholarships, what the school can do is given an admission to a good athlete who would not have gotten in otherwise. Many of the swimmers in the Ivy League could have gotten scholarships at other schools but took the admission to an Ivy League instead.
One needs to also remember, that only football, basketball, and hockey give full scholarships. They are referred to as headcount sports where every scholarship athlete gets a full scholarship. All other college sports can give partial scholarships. A good example is that men’s basketball has 24 players but only 11.5 scholarships to give. That means that most players only get a partial scholarship. Another example is that the benefit of being on Duke’s lacrosse team was getting into Duke, not a partial scholarship.
You haven’t mentioned anything about thrust/strength to weight, specific gravity, etc., much less quantified any of them.
On average, women have lower density (i.e. more body fat) than men. Therefore, at slow speeds, men have to spend relatively more energy on self-flotation. I never specifically studied hydrodynamics, but I’m sure that as speed increases most of a swimmer’s energy goes towards overcoming water resistance (i.e. friction). I figure that on average, male strength-to-weight is larger. At race speeds, advantage men.

Meh. There are over 330 million people in the North American Economic Zone — easy enough to find weirdos if you’re looking for them.
Rather than focusing entirely on the content of this heavily-promoted narrative, sometimes it’s helpful to step outside of that particular aspect of hyperreality and ask why the major narrative promotion agencies are so focused on this particular individual, and on the broader campaign to promote transsexualism?
This might be a clue:
The shy senior economics major from Austin became one of the most dominant college athletes in the country and, as a result, the center of a national debate—a living, breathing, real-time Rorschach test for how society views those who challenge conventions.
That’s a sneaky one there. A deliberately inexact analogy*. What’s a Rorschach test again? Oh yeah — it’s an abstract, semi-random pattern that doesn’t actually represent anything in particular, but you’re supposed to imagine what you think it looks like. As far as we can determine from the “news” media narratives focused on him, William “Lia” Thomas is definitely not an abstract pattern, but an actual, biological human. Implicit message: the external, directly observable reality in front of you doesn’t matter; whether you think the “correct” thoughts (or blasphemous ones) about it does.
“Narrative >> reality” — a key message of the transsexualism craze. “Reality isn’t really real — only what we tell you is real, isreal.”
But there’s another message intrinsic to the “Transsexualism is Great! And you MUST celebrate it!” campaign that’s a little less obvious — the “We’ve always been at war with Eastasia!” one:
1. Narrative shift: William learns to reject his evil material masculine nature*, and gets in touch with his purely spiritual “feminine spiritual essence,” thus “transitioning” into a “woman” via some magical/ metaphysical process governed entirely by an act of will. [Just read some gender theory/ queer theory stuff. Hormones, genital mutilation surgery, etc. are commonly utilized by those who decide to “identify” as a member of the opposite sex — but it’s the magic process of “identifying” that really matters.]
2. Retcon:”Lia” was always “Lia” — William never existed.
3. It’s a “crime” to mention that step 1 or step 2 ever happened. No, I’m not exaggerating.
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=deadnaming+hate+crime&ia=web
Seems like a pretty useful mode of thought to impose via heavily-promoted media/ “educational” indictrination: “Who ya gonna believe? The current narrative [which has always been in place], or your lyin’ eyes?” Just believe the new narrative, and forget the old one.
*See also Thomas throttled “her” competition — the mental image created by that phrase is clearly the result of a deliberate troll. He understands how analogies work.
**Obviously there are strong parallels with Kabbalah as well as gnosticism.

Steve makes an issue of it every so often. What most of the social conservatives do not understand is that lesbian/queer athletes have much more in common with the trans athletes than they do with the social conservatives. The social conservatives have a long history of complaining about Title IX and the requirement to even have women's teams. In addition, the social conservatives making the biggest deal out of trans athletes are people like Matt Walsh at Dailywire who opposed Obergefell, Lawrence, Roe, Casey, Griswold, and probably Loving.
It is probably a fairly safe bet that there were almost no social conservatives competing at the NCAA swimming championships. A social conservative family would never put the effort in lessons, practice, and travel teams to help a daughter.
The phenomenon of WilLIAm Thomas is one particularly stark indication of just how completely lost our nation, culture, and civilization is. At this stage of the game I don’t see much possibility of finding our way back home.
Lesbian Olympic athletes are very common. See
