You know and I know that a big chunk of Minneapolis was subjected to black looters and white Antifa terrorists on Wednesday and Thursday, but that’s not the point, the point is The Narrative and The Megaphone-wielders aren’t going to be knocked off stride by a few hundred hours of lurid video.

From the Los Angeles Times news section:

News Analysis: A study in contrast: Trump, Biden respond to Minneapolis crisis

By CHRIS MEGERIAN, JANET HOOK
MAY 29, 202011:18 AM

WASHINGTON — President Trump saw burning buildings and decided to light another match. Joe Biden said he would bring a hose, then fix the foundations once the fire was out.
The crisis in Minneapolis, where protests are raging after a black man, George Floyd, was killed by white police officers, provided a window into how each man plans to campaign for the presidency and lead the country if elected in November.

Floyd was killed Monday while handcuffed and lying on the ground as one of the officers, Derek Chauvin, kneeled on his neck for several minutes. Chauvin was arrested on Friday and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter; charges are expected against the three other officers involved, the county attorney in Minneapolis said.

The incident, which was captured on a widely circulated video, resurfaced the country’s unsolved struggles with race, policing and inequality, the kind of combustible situation that can confront a president at a moment’s notice and threaten to spiral out of control.

Trump and Biden have both condemned Floyd’s death, but the similarities ended there as they approached the case and the subsequent protests in radically different ways.

Trump’s response was characteristically inconsistent and inflammatory. He first expressed support for a federal civil rights investigation of the officers, then suggested that looters could be shot as the National Guard was deployed to the city.

Facing a backlash for his comments, Trump blamed his enemies for misinterpreting them and said he did not want the situation to “descend further into lawless anarchy and chaos” as he urged the Justice Department to complete a swift investigation.

Meanwhile, Biden sought to demonstrate the steadiness and empathy that he hopes voters will welcome after four years of Trump’s caustic and tumultuous presidency.

“I think the whole country, the world, see a contrast in Biden and Trump — a contrast that I hope will not be lost on the American people,” said Rep. James E. Clyburn, a South Carolina Democrat who is one of the former vice president’s most prominent black supporters. “Biden has demonstrated what I have said about him for a long time — he knows us and we know him.”

Trump has low approval ratings among black voters, who have been repelled by his history of racist statements and his contention that there were “very fine people on both sides” of white supremacist protests in Charlottesville, Va., three years ago. But his campaign has been trying to boost his numbers in hopes of limiting Biden’s advantage, and Trump said he was troubled by the video of a police officer kneeling on Floyd as he begged for air and became unconscious.

“That was a very bad thing that I saw,” he said on Thursday. The Justice Department is conducting a civil rights investigation.

Later, however, as demonstrations in the city became more violent and protesters set buildings, including a police precinct, afire, Trump’s focus shifted, and he lashed out on Twitter.

“These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen,” he said. “Just spoke to [Minnesota] Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you!”

Twitter affixed a warning label to the tweet saying the message was “glorifying violence.” The suggestion that looters might be shot echoed some of the country’s most traumatic experiences with urban riots.

“The thuggification of black folk is a standard trope,” said Carol Anderson, chair of African American studies at Emory University in Atlanta. “That’s the narrative that you’re seeing now.”

It’s a trope, people. That means you should not believe your lying eyes.

Trump later said he only meant that looting would lead to violence.

“Looting leads to shooting,” he tweeted. “I don’t want this to happen, and that’s what the expression put out last night means.” …

Biden responded to Trump’s comments on looting by tweeting, “Enough.”

“He is calling for violence against American citizens during a moment of pain for so many,” Biden said. “I’m furious, and you should be too.”

He later delivered a more formal response in a short speech livestreamed on his campaign’s website, in which he called for the country to confront the “open wound” of systemic racism.

“Nothing about this will be easy or comfortable,” he said. “But if we simply allow this wound to scab over once more without treating the underlying injury, we will never truly heal.” …

In his remarks, he leaned heavily toward putting Floyd’s killing into the context of generations of officially sanctioned violence toward black Americans.

“The original sin of this country still stains our nation today, and sometimes we manage to overlook it,” he said. We just push forward with a thousand other tasks in our daily life. But it’s always there.”

Biden did not mention Trump by name in his remarks but clearly attacked the president’s response to the protests.

“This is no time for incendiary tweets. It’s no time to encourage violence,” Biden said. “This is a national crisis, and we need real leadership right now.”

iSteve commenter bgates observes:

“Trump’s response was characteristically inconsistent and inflammatory. He first expressed support for a federal civil rights investigation of the officers, then suggested that looters could be shot as the National Guard was deployed to the city.”

Inconsistently, Trump opposes gratuitous violence by policemen but opposes gratuitous violence by civilians.

He also wants to prevent people from setting buildings on fire, which is inflammatory of him.

And from Joe:

From the statement of probable cause for arresting the cop:

    https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/29/us/derek-chauvin-criminal-complaint-trnd/index.html

Officers Kueng and Lane stood Mr. Floyd up and attempted to walk Mr. Floyd to their squad car (MPD 320) at 8:14 p.m. Mr. Floyd stiffened up, fell to the ground, and told the officers he was claustrophobic…The officers made several attempts to get Mr. Floyd in the backseat of squad 320 from the driver’s side. Mr. Floyd did not voluntarily get in the car and struggled with the officers by intentionally falling down, saying he was not going in the car, and refusing to stand still…While standing outside the car, Mr. Floyd began saying and repeating that he could not breathe. The defendant went to the passenger side and tried to get Mr. Floyd into the car from that side and Lane and Kueng assisted.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner (ME) conducted Mr. Floyd’s autopsy on May 26, 2020. The full report of the ME is pending but the ME has made the following preliminary findings. The autopsy revealed no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation. Mr. Floyd had underlying health conditions including coronary artery disease and hypertensive heart disease. The combined effects of Mr. Floyd being restrained by the police, his underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death.

Tl; dr Floyd was saying he couldn’t breathe even before he was on the ground with Chauvin’s knee on his neck. Probably he was either overdosing or having a heart attack (or both).

Of course the cop is still going to have to justify why he kept his knee on the neck of a guy who was actively dying instead of doing CPR. But murder seems like a stretch assuming the preliminary autopsy findings hold up.

  11. I can only speak for myself

I interpreted Trump’s words about when the looting starts the shooting starts as another one of his inflammatory statements. It never occurred to me that he was merely making an observation about consequences to looting that he didn’t want to happen, as he claims. Frankly because he lies so much it’s not occurring to me to believe him.

Trump has had mixed reactions to his wild comments for years. He’s happy when they seem to get him the results he wants and unhappy when they don’t, which leads him to often deny what he plainly said. So yes the narrative is back on track. Trump’s temporarily in trouble with some while others are glad he said what he did. The question in November will be if enough people want more of the same for another four years to reelect him. After all that’s happened with the coronavirus and unemployment over the past few months, I don’t know what the country will decide. I don’t know what I will decide.

  12. That’s a news item?

Trump’s response was characteristically inconsistent and inflammatory.

Meanwhile, Biden sought to demonstrate the steadiness and empathy that he hopes voters will welcome after four years of Trump’s caustic and tumultuous presidency.

The frightening thing about this sort of thing is the complete lack of self-awareness. If your job is supposedly to report events in an unbiased manner, you should have the ability to hear yourself, process how you might sound to people of varying ideologies, and try as best you can to come down the middle. Just tell me what he said, and then tell me what the other guy said.

But the “others” don’t exist to these people. That’s why when a couple of white octogenarians get gunned down by a black guy while visiting their son’t grave, it really never happened.

Just wanted to mention that Trump never praised the white supremacists in Charlottesville, he explicitly condemned them, and then went on to say the dispute over the statue in the Park had good people on both sides. The media loves to blur that distinction between the white supremacist march the night before the protest, and the protest itself, which was about taking a Confederate statue out of the park. Officer struck by object inside CNN Center
An officer was struck by an unknown object and is down in CNN Center, according to CNN's Nick Valencia and Kevin Conlon, who are just inside the stairwell at the entrance of the building.

The crew moved inside behind police as tensions between protesters and police boiled over outside CNN Center.

On the Marietta Street side of the building, police are holding off protesters who have broken doors and windows and continue to throw objects.

Police just inside the building are currently engaged in a standoff with protestors who are assembled on the sidewalk along Marietta Street.

You also gotta love that they are still "protesters" and not "rioters" even as they try to burn down CNN's HQ. You have to appreciate CNN's level of commitment to the Narrative.

I guess I’m inclined to say that the Narrative hasn’t been off track for years, it’s been a steady drum beat of Trump hatred (and by extension, a hatred of everyone who disagrees with progressive leftist socialism).

It seems early in the year to burn the cities down, though. If it happens, I’d see that as proof that sending people free money doesn’t satisfy them.

“George Floyd died Monday from a combination of preexisting health conditions exacerbated by being held down by Minneapolis officers, not from strangulation or asphyxiation, based on the medical examiner’s initial report.

Preliminary findings from a Tuesday autopsy conducted by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner found “no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxiation or strangulation,” according to the criminal complaint filed Friday against former officer Derek Michael Chauvin.

“Mr. Floyd had underlying health conditions including coronary artery disease and hypertensive heart disease,” said the complaint from the Hennepin County Attorney. “The combined effects of Mr. Floyd being restrained by police, his underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death.” – By Valerie Richardson – The Washington Times – Friday, May 29, 2020

Has anyone noticed the ethnic background of the cops in this case? One of the Cops Thomas Lane looks black, Alexander Kueng and Tou Thao are both Southeast Asian the white officer's name is Derek Chauvin, Chauvin is a French Canadian name and Gregory Clark has documented that French Canadians have much lower achievement levels when compared to all other whites. How much of the problems with the Minneapolis Police are caused by lowing standards in order to get more minorities onto the force? As a French Canadian Chauvin may well have benefited.

French Canadians get affirmative action in Canada if they pass the French language test which they usually do. In America they are White and discriminated against in hiring because they are White.

That’s affirmative action. 2 French Canadian heritage brothers can live half a mile away from each other. If one lives on the Canadian side and one on the American side of the border, both are affected by affirmative action. One gets affirmative action preference, the other is discriminated against.

It is code for paying for social peace with even more governmental programs, mandates, set-asides, and affirmative action. My dad used to tell me, “If you don’t want to be treated like a criminal, don’t act like one.” I grew up in Chicago in the Sixties and Seventies. I know what assholes urban cops can be. I can appreciate how difficult it must be but they chose the job.

Riding in a car with blacks and whites was sure to get you pulled over. Once some of us were driving somewhere, probably to cop weed. We get pulled over. Older cop saunters over and tells us, “Get out of the car but do it slowly. I hurt my back and don’t want to aggravate it chasing any of you.” We exit the vehicle to see his younger partner behind the open squad car door, gun drawn and trained on us.

They did a sloppy search of the car and patted all of us down. One of the black guys had a knife on him. It wasn’t a switchblade but it was a fairly long folding knife. Older cop asked him, “Where do you live?” He replied, “Halsted and North.” Cop gave him back the knife and said, “You’ll need it there.” Not finding anything else of interest they let us go with the admonition, “You’re in the wrong neighborhood.”

My black friends knew from experience that having an attitude or being aggressive would result in an ass kicking or worse. Was this right or fair? Didn’t matter. It was the way it was. Should that guy have been killed for passing a counterfeit bill. Hell no, our government counterfeits every time it “prints” money out of thin air.

But as I watched people mugging for news cameras in front of burning buildings, people pushing carts full of pilfered goods from big box stores, the life’s work and sustenance of hard working folks going up in flames, as I listened to news reporters doing linguistic gymnastics to continue calling the events protest and expressions of anger at the injustice of it all, as I listened to the cowardly governor of the state and the two criminal mayors of the cities going up in flames refuse to call what was going on a riot not to mention ordering the police and fire departments to stand down I admit to feeling an anger and rage I haven’t felt in a while. I try to maintain a biblical sense of optimism but am beginning to feel this may be a season of judgement where God allows the nation to reap the harvest of its abandonment of absolute truth, objective reality, and the concepts of good and evil. Who knows? I don’t.

Burning down buildings/destroying property, car-b-ques, not to mention, lack of social distancing; will bring on fear like nothing else. Tucker just had a clip of a young man saying they’re coming to burn and loot the suburbs “two of you for one of us – the suburbs are next!”

And, ironically, no one considered that Chauvin is a psychopath who likes killing – might be his first kill, but, his umpteenth bad report of his behavior as a cop – the record of his bad behavior is lengthy! – Almost seems weird that the other cops just watched as he pressed the carotid artery on the victim – seems too weird and affected.

Soros and BLM really miscalculated this time – but, right on time after Biden said, “you’re not black!” However, the primal fear of violence and death takes over even unreasonable people – hard to think that lefties are anything but reasonable.

What sucks is that, unlike the businesses in Minneapolis, the police are actually defending CNN. I support the police, but in this case I’m torn. Here’s from CNN’s website from about 40 min. ago.

Officer struck by object inside CNN Center
An officer was struck by an unknown object and is down in CNN Center, according to CNN’s Nick Valencia and Kevin Conlon, who are just inside the stairwell at the entrance of the building.

You also gotta love that they are still “protesters” and not “rioters” even as they try to burn down CNN’s HQ. You have to appreciate CNN’s level of commitment to the Narrative.

"George Floyd died Monday from a combination of preexisting health conditions exacerbated by being held down by Minneapolis officers, not from strangulation or asphyxiation, based on the medical examiner’s initial report.

Floyd being restrained by police, his underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death.” - By Valerie Richardson - The Washington Times - Friday, May 29, 2020

From the statement of probable cause for arresting the cop:

    https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/29/us/derek-chauvin-criminal-complaint-trnd/index.html

Officers Kueng and Lane stood Mr. Floyd up and attempted to walk Mr. Floyd to their squad car (MPD 320) at 8:14 p.m. Mr. Floyd stiffened up, fell to the ground, and told the officers he was claustrophobic...The officers made several attempts to get Mr. Floyd in the backseat of squad 320 from the driver's side. Mr. Floyd did not voluntarily get in the car and struggled with the officers by intentionally falling down, saying he was not going in the car, and refusing to stand still...While standing outside the car, Mr. Floyd began saying and repeating that he could not breathe. The defendant went to the passenger side and tried to get Mr. Floyd into the car from that side and Lane and Kueng assisted.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner (ME) conducted Mr. Floyd's autopsy on May 26, 2020.

Tl; dr Floyd was saying he couldn't breathe even before he was on the ground with Chauvin's knee on his neck. Probably he was either overdosing or having a heart attack (or both).

Of course the cop is still going to have to justify why he kept his knee on the neck of a guy who was actively dying instead of doing CPR. But murder seems like a stretch assuming the preliminary autopsy findings hold up.
