October brings fall weather and Halloween. If you choose to participate in Halloween activities, we encourage you to think about your choices of costumes and themes. Some Halloween costumes reinforce stereotypes of particular races, genders, cultures, or religions. Regardless of intent, these costumes can perpetuate negative stereotypes, causing harm and offense to groups of people. Also, keep in mind that social media posts can have a long-term impact on your personal and professional reputation. The University of Florida’s Division of Student Affairs Diversity and Social Justice Statement reminds us that UF fosters a community that values and respects diversity. An inclusive definition of diversity recognizes the variety of personal and social experiences that make individuals and communities different from one another.
As a community, we aspire to demonstrate integrity, respect, and compassion that strives to maintain an affirming campus climate for all members of our community. They make it sound as if white people are going to be walking around in black face or wearing ethnic garb. I suspect what bugs them far more is that Halloween is one night where whites get to reclaim parts of their own culture and play with in front of everyone. For instance, a man can dress up like a University Professor or a student would one hundred years ago as a gentle reminder who build the university they are attending and who stole what from whom. What does it mean to a minority, particularly an Asian or Hispanic who had no ancestors living here 250 years ago, when a white dresses up in a Revolutionary War costume, or as a Red Coat for that matter? What about dressing up like Abraham Lincoln, Gen MacArthur, Thomas Jefferson, Mozart? It is a not so subtle reminder who really owns the culture. They don’t and never will.
I wore my Chief Wahoo hat in an Alaskan village full of Indians for a whole summer, and no one bothered me. The only one who mentioned it at all probably was surprised that anyone would root for a team even worse than the Mariners.
Can we give the Bias Education and Response Team their own show, like the A-Team? Look out, thought-criminals, it’s BERT!
As a fan of Bay Area teams, I hope the Indians go all the way this year. They are due. I don’t want Joey Batts styling in the Series. I don’t really care if its either the Dodgers or the Cubs. I’ve been noticing a major uptic in people wearing traditional (ish) German octoberfest garb at the last 3 halloweens. It’s a safe costume for Whites to not offend anyone.
In the university system, Halloween based offenses are considered especially heinous.
At the University of Florida, the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad known as the Special Costumes Unit. These are their stories.
I imagine there’s some truth to that but, like Sailer has pointed out, PC is largely a way for upper classes to maintain their privilege. Funny thing is, an older (ex-but still kind of semi-nerdy) friend of mine ages ago, after I had finished college (early 2000s), basically told me as much–he had used leftism to get laid. I had scrupulously avoided it because I disagreed with the ideas (I’ve been a moderate lefty at times, mostly because I opposed the Iraq War, but identity politics always disgusted me). He told me lefty girls were much more willing to bed nerdy guys.

Exactly. In my experience, few white people who start out anything less than middle class end up as true SJWs. The poor kids I grew up with (and I’m one of them) seem to have retained a more realistic grasp of how the world really works. I think “cuck” is sophomoric, but it does serve a very useful rhetorical purpose, which is why people like Vox favor it: people hate being called “cuck.” It throws them off their game. That makes it an effective insult. “Microaggression” isn’t as effective in that sense, though it does serve its purpose as a shibboleth for pseudoscientists.
You are wrong about “cuck” being meaninglessness. The insult is based on the child-rearing habits of cuckoo birds, who are known to place their eggs in other birds’ nests. This relates to immigrants, obviously, who are invading our national nest and forcing us to care for them and their offspring. But it also applies to anyone who shifts the burden of caring for people unto others, as with the Welfare State.
Not that any of that matters, because everyone knows the term as a sexual insult.(Eggs are sexual, too, but you know what I’m getting at.) Mainly people take it as humiliation for your wife sleeping with a superior male, rather than having to care for someone else’s offspring. The term for a woman who allows foreigners to invade her country and supports the idea of a welfare state is of course “woman.” At least for now. I don’t assume women were always that way. Roman women had a reputation for being shewolves.

I had dinner on Amtrak once with a mother and young daughter, who I guessed was adopted. She looked quite aboriginal, but I was reluctant to ask. Turns out she was a Gypsy adopted from a Romanian orphanage.
The Republican landslides of the 1920s were augmented by women’s suffrage. (CE Hughes won Illinois handily in 1916 with the women’s vote, too.) It’s safe to assume that women then supported immigration restrictions at least as strongly as their menfolk. And they got them!

Grown men dressing in weird costumes, doing wild stuff and getting blasted is a mainstay of European male culture. Mystery cults, warrior societies, fraternities, sports teams, and military units all do it. It’s just exclusionary team building through shared trials.
