From the U. of Florida’s Gator Times:

Halloween Costume Choices

Filed under Administrative, Information Tech, Newsletter on October 10, 2016.

October brings fall weather and Halloween. If you choose to participate in Halloween activities, we encourage you to think about your choices of costumes and themes. Some Halloween costumes reinforce stereotypes of particular races, genders, cultures, or religions. Regardless of intent, these costumes can perpetuate negative stereotypes, causing harm and offense to groups of people. Also, keep in mind that social media posts can have a long-term impact on your personal and professional reputation. The University of Florida’s Division of Student Affairs Diversity and Social Justice Statement reminds us that UF fosters a community that values and respects diversity. An inclusive definition of diversity recognizes the variety of personal and social experiences that make individuals and communities different from one another.

As a community, we aspire to demonstrate integrity, respect, and compassion that strives to maintain an affirming campus climate for all members of our community. If you are troubled by an incident that does occur, please know that there are many resources available. Please take advantage of the 7 day a week presence of the U Matter, We Care program at the University of Florida by emailing [email protected] Additionally, there is a 24/7 counselor in the Counseling and Wellness Center available to speak by phone at 352-392-XXXX. Lastly, the Bias Education and Response Team at the University of Florida is able to respond to any reported incidents of bias, to educate those that were involved, and to provide support by connecting those that were impacted to the appropriate services and resources. You may submit a bias incident report at www.umatter.ufl.edu/stopbias.Thank you for being mindful of these values, and have a fun and safe Halloween

How about if we enslave other Mexicans, slice open their chests with stone knives, and rip out their beating hearts?

Is that paying sufficient honor to noble Aztec culture?

Compared to that, I can see how Causing Offense with a carnival costume would be exponentially worse.

That's the way it used to be. But in our contemporary infantile, neo-pagan society, a lot of supposed adults are really into Halloween.

I imagine there's some truth to that but, like Sailer has pointed out, PC is largely a way for upper classes to maintain their privilege. That's why people pay tens of thousands of dollars a year for their kids to learn they're evil due to their race: in the long run the ones who internalize this nonsense (or at least can convincingly pretend to have internalized it) can get a nicer place at the trough than their less refined brethren.
That's what much of the anti-Trump fervor is about. Trump is boorish and un-PC, and many of his followers are extremely un-PC. This triggers the people who have spent so much time and money learning the new religion.

  10. Would it offend if I wore a Michelle Obama mask. I’m white. Some people think MO is not attractive.

  11. And if you see someone dressed as an alligator . . . ?

  12. They make it sound as if white people are going to be walking around in black face or wearing ethnic garb. I suspect what bugs them far more is that Halloween is one night where whites get to reclaim parts of their own culture and play with in front of everyone. For instance, a man can dress up like a University Professor or a student would one hundred years ago as a gentle reminder who build the university they are attending and who stole what from whom. What does it mean to a minority, particularly an Asian or Hispanic who had no ancestors living here 250 years ago, when a white dresses up in a Revolutionary War costume, or as a Red Coat for that matter? What about dressing up like Abraham Lincoln, Gen MacArthur, Thomas Jefferson, Mozart? It is a not so subtle reminder who really owns the culture. They don’t and never will.

Grown men dressing in weird costumes, doing wild stuff and getting blasted is a mainstay of European male culture. Mystery cults, warrior societies, fraternities, sports teams, and military units all do it. It's just exclusionary team building through shared trials.

Plus, it scares the crap out of the b-team humans. What's not to like?

Exactly. In my experience, few white people who start out anything less than middle class end up as true SJWs. The poor kids I grew up with (and I'm one of them) seem to have retained a more realistic grasp of how the world really works. They're not gullible enough to convert to heretical Christian leftism like their economic superiors have so regularly done.

Which is exactly why the leftist women are getting upset at the 'brogressives' stealing their movement.

Funny thing is, an older (ex-but still kind of semi-nerdy) friend of mine ages ago, after I had finished college (early 2000s), basically told me as much--he had used leftism to get laid. I had scrupulously avoided it because I disagreed with the ideas (I've been a moderate lefty at times, mostly because I opposed the Iraq War, but identity politics always disgusted me). He told me lefty girls were much more willing to bed nerdy guys.

    So, who was smarter?

    @Corvinus

I think "cuck" is sophomoric, but it does serve a very useful rhetorical purpose, which is why people like Vox favor it: people hate being called "cuck." It throws them off their game. That makes it an effective insult. "Microaggression" isn't as effective in that sense, though it does serve its purpose as a shibboleth for pseudoscientists.

You are wrong about "cuck" being meaninglessness. The insult is based on the child-rearing habits of cuckoo birds, who are known to place their eggs in other birds' nests. This relates to immigrants, obviously, who are invading our national nest and forcing us to care for them and their offspring. But it also applies to anyone who shifts the burden of caring for people unto others, as with the Welfare State.

Not that any of that matters, because everyone knows the term as a sexual insult.(Eggs are sexual, too, but you know what I'm getting at.) Mainly people take it as humiliation for your wife sleeping with a superior male, rather than having to care for someone else's offspring. But it's used because it gets under people's skin, end of story.

"It’s gay of you to use the word “queer.”"

I agree, I was happy that I used the word queer.

Seriously, what is it with some on the Alt Right like Vox Day who think a meme like "cuck" serves any purpose? It's just as meaningless as "microagression".

    Replies: @guest

I think “cuck” is sophomoric, but it does serve a very useful rhetorical purpose, which is why people like Vox favor it: people hate being called “cuck.” It throws them off their game. That makes it an effective insult. “Microaggression” isn’t as effective in that sense, though it does serve its purpose as a shibboleth for pseudoscientists.

You are wrong about “cuck” being meaninglessness. The insult is based on the child-rearing habits of cuckoo birds, who are known to place their eggs in other birds’ nests. This relates to immigrants, obviously, who are invading our national nest and forcing us to care for them and their offspring. But it also applies to anyone who shifts the burden of caring for people unto others, as with the Welfare State.

The term "cuck" is gender specific. It is like calling someone a prick. It clearly does not apply to women so it is actually none of their business. By virtue, no one was talking to them. In fact, it is only men who are insulted. If you say c*** or b**** you run into problem because the reflexive defense is to just say that a man is picking on a women which carries weight. So going forward, I hereby nominate that the word Cuck to be officially accepted in the Queen's English. Anyone second the motion?

Since that word has been used repeatedly by the Alt Right like Lindsay Lohan does body shots, it lost its intended impact. It's laughable, really. It may thrown some people off their game, but the left and right has built up sufficient immunities to "cuck".

"This relates to immigrants, obviously, who are invading our national nest and forcing us to care for them and their offspring."

No, it's not obvious that immigrants are "invading our national nest", since our country since its inception was built by immigrants, white and non-white.

"But it’s used because it gets under people’s skin, end of story."

    For SOME people, sure.

  85. Let’s see…

    – the classic old ghost costume made from a white sheet would be seen as a klansmen costume
    – a vampire costume would be mocking hemophiliacs
    – a Frankenstein costume would be an obvious slam at organ transplant recipients
    – using tape to wrap one’s self like a mummy would make one look like a burn victim, instead

I might as well just dress up like Hitler for Halloween, like this little Asian kid did:

"Cuck" only applies to men, yes. I don't know if there is a term for a woman whose husband impregnates another woman. Pornography occasionally uses "cuckqueen," which is ridiculous and not at all catchy.

The term for a woman who allows foreigners to invade her country and supports the idea of a welfare state is of course "woman." At least for now. I don't assume women were always that way. Roman women had a reputation for being shewolves.

The Republican landslides of the 1920s were augmented by women's suffrage. (CE Hughes won Illinois handily in 1916 with the women's vote, too.) It's safe to assume that women then supported immigration restrictions at least as strongly as their menfolk. And they got them!

Women's innate conservatism is a giant untapped lode. Has anyone explained what demographic changes will do to their sons and daughters? Has anyone tried?

I had dinner on Amtrak once with a mother and young daughter, who I guessed was adopted. She looked quite aboriginal, but I was reluctant to ask. Turns out she was a Gypsy adopted from a Romanian orphanage.

    Replies: @Stationary Feast, @Monopthalmus

Grown men dressing in weird costumes, doing wild stuff and getting blasted is a mainstay of European male culture. Mystery cults, warrior societies, fraternities, sports teams, and military units all do it. It’s just exclusionary team building through shared trials.

Plus, it scares the crap out of the b-team humans. What’s not to like?
