The perceptive human sciences reporter Jesse Singal of New York magazine is rightfully annoyed by the latest front in the War on Beckys: “Crosswalk Cathy:”

One suggestion I have for journalists in general is to stop having so much respect for Black Twitter. Credulity over the reliability of Black Twitter has gotten the MainStream Media into countless factual fiascos such as Innocent Baby Trayvon vs. the White Man and Ferguson’s Gentle Giant.

Stop assuming that if random black people around the country on Twitter are outraged over, say, how Michael Brown was gunned down in cold blood while raising his hands to surrender or how racist Crosswalk Cathy racistly tried to have a racist parking regulation racistly enforced, that has to be exactly what happened because they wouldn’t put it on Black Twitter if it weren’t the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

In reality, Black Twitter is not some exotic samizdat pipeline of suppressed pure truth. Instead, Black Twitter is much like overall Twitter, which is notoriously awful and stupid.

Update: The Three-Fifth Amendment to the Constitution states: “Congress shall make no law requiring black people to do anything they aren’t in the mood to do, like not parking in a crosswalk, because history. And racism. And white privilege.”

Legal scholars state that if you ask whether the Three-Fifth Amendment overrides the Zeroth Amendment (“Anybody from anywhere has the right to immigrate to America anytime, no questions asked”), or vice-versa, then you are a racist troublemaker and they have their eye on you.

  1. Twitter was the first place I noticed the groundswell over Trayvon. I was surprised when it became “real” news. If you are looking to pinpoint the beginning of the left losing it, this could be origin.

  2. See the thing with social change is that people will only go along with you part of the way. Which means you have to push for a ridiculous extreme way beyond what it is you really want, to get what you really want.

So to get a situation where blacks are treated with kid gloves, you have to ruin the life of someone who, if things were different, could have targeted some blacks, even if she didn’t.

    Liberals understand this, conservatives don’t.

Instead of being doxxed, ‘Beckys’ could step just out of line-of-sight and audible range before dropping a dime on a scofflaw. And if they’re bored, they can stick around and watch the show without anyone the wiser.

But some of these callers seem to want interpersonal drama and make the call in the presence of the scofflaw, which is stupid.

You know, you’re not supposed to park on crosswalks. You take your chances with getting a ticket if you do.

Always the complaint is that if you were Being an Assh*le While White, it wouldn’t happen to you? How in the hell are we ever supposed to know that?

I figure it's Coalition of the Fringes paying off one of their cohorts.

It's not like Blacks are doing all that well under the Coalition: they are being gentrified out of some areas; displaced by immigrants in others; tokenism in many economic sectors.

Darn . . . that ugly situation would cure the problem, wouldn't it? As soon as a statistically significant number of the genuinely privileged ivory tower dwellers received the long-vaunted benefits of diversity, thereby losing their Kumbaya illusions, a generational tsunami would wash away the detritus of social engineering. Avast, mates, the tipping point! Row well, number 41.

Cosby was easy to throw away. Back when the crack wars were getting warmed up, Cosby called out the parents of his own race. While privileged, Cosby was still a commercial icon large enough to open his trap. But now, elderly, used up and with money to grab with these lawsuits, he became easy meat for feminist thieving via #metoo.

My favorite Starbucks/crosswalk/stop being an asshole story.

My local Starbucks is right in the center of town and it has the busiest crosswalk right outside its door. There's also a fire hydrant there hard by the crosswalk and right before the entrance to the downtown parking lot behind the retail block. People running in for coffee occasionally park there, hoping the coffee run is shorter than the local cops' drives down Main Street.

I was outside at one of the cafe tables on a busy Saturday morning when a car pulled up and parked, rear bumper on the crosswalk line and front blocking the hydrant. A young Kardashian wannabe jumped out of the passenger door and got into the long line of people waiting for their coffee. After a few minutes, the driver (Celtics cap on backward, Kyrie Irving jersey and a few gold chains) got out and leaned on his car exuding attitude.

A gentleman (a guy I know and he's a state cop) came out of Starbucks, looked at the kid and the car, and told him that he was illegally parked. The kid responded with a request that the gentleman mind his own business and to go fuck himself. The gentleman reached into his pocket and pulled out his badge, whereupon the kid began to move to the driver's door. The cop used his "cop voice" to tell the kid to wait right there, pulled his cell and called the local gendarmes to the scene.

The two cops were very entertaining as they debated just how many violations the kid should be found in violation of. It got up to about $350 in fines before they were done.

  19. If Twits should be ignored for their stupidity, how much worse does that make those battalions of “scientists” whose method is to sign a petition?
Anon has an archived link to BBC: Over 1600 “scientists” say gender does not exist, because Trump says it does.

    https://archive.is/odEkb

    Another has:
    https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/414457-1600-scientists-sign-letter-opposing-trumps-plan-to-redefine-gender

    From the original letter:

As scientists, we are compelled to write to you, our elected representatives, about the current administration’s proposal to legally define gender as a binary condition determined at birth, based on genitalia, and with plans to clarify disputes using “genetic testing”. This proposal is fundamentally inconsistent not only with science, but also with ethical practices, human rights, and basic dignity.

The proposal is in no way “grounded in science” as the administration claims. The relationship between sex chromosomes, genitalia, and gender identity is complex, and not fully understood. There are no genetic tests that can unambiguously determine gender, or even sex. Furthermore, even if such tests existed, it would be unconscionable to use the pretext of science to enact policies that overrule the lived experience of people’s own gender identities.

    >There are no genetic tests that can unambiguously determine gender, or even sex.

  23. Here in NYC, all you have to do is call 311 to make a noise complaint or report antisocial behavior. When they ask you if you’d like to leave your name, just say, ‘no.’

The cops usually show up. But here’s the key: call the cops again the next time they do it. Because these reports are recorded, and the cops get annoyed at having to visit the same building or street corner repeatedly. They will let the building owner know that there are lots of complaints about their building, and contrary to perception, NYC landlords generally care if their building are getting lots of visits from the cops.

People in the hood are inconsiderate and behave selfishly because they believe there are no consequences, and they have the mentality of insolent teenagers. Many have records, none of them want any police interactions. Eventually, they’ll go somewhere else where they can act stupid.

I suppose Beckys are at the forefront of keeping America safe from people who have their cars sticking out a half foot or so in front of the curb and therefore into the crosswalk. Her keen eye led her to report this heinous crime to a dispatcher with the Portland Bureau of Transportation’s parking enforcement hotline. We should all be celebrating her selfless act in diverting precious police resources from their normal routine of rounding up murdering darkies and their crack selling brownie sidekicks.

This would have an ancillary benefit of deplatforming said publications.

Here in NYC, all you have to do is call 311 to make a noise complaint or report antisocial behavior. When they ask you if you'd like to leave your name, just say, 'no.'

The cops usually show up. But here's the key: call the cops again the next time they do it.

Eventually, they'll go somewhere else where they can act stupid.

We should all be celebrating her selfless act in diverting precious police resources from their normal routine of rounding up murdering darkies and their crack selling brownie sidekicks.

Neither would I. However, I don't think that anyone who behaves differently than me should therefore be vilified. I can think of all kinds of things others would tolerate that I wouldn't, and conversely, all kinds of things that I'd tolerate that others wouldn't. If you see something illegal that annoys you, you have a right to call the appropriate authority. If you choose to do something illegal, you've no right to kick if someone complains. Work to make it legal if you think it's okay.

Hot take: although the rhetoric has always focused on “the man,” blacks viscerally have much more disdain for white females han for white males. I’m not sure why, exactly: one theory is that they frequently interact with prissy white female teachers as kids and thus tend to view them as martinets. Another is that white American women are simply a pain in the ass. This is a question to which scholars ought to devote significant attention.

As I walked into TJ’s, the SJW followed me and tried to get TJ management to deny me service. Amazingly, they were unresponsive. When I came out of TJ’s, the black woman was gone but the white woman was there again to harangue me further about fat jokes. I told her she was out of shape too, and she called the cops. I hung around for a few minutes but they never came. I suspect that the black blob is a D.A. but I’m not sure.

Well done, Mr. Sailer, with your delivery of “staccato grievance commentary”™.

I suppose Beckys are at the forefront of keeping America safe from people who have their cars sticking out a half foot or so in front of the curb and therefore into the crosswalk. Her keen eye led her to report this heinous crime to a dispatcher with the Portland Bureau of Transportation's parking enforcement hotline. We should all be celebrating her selfless act in diverting precious police resources from their normal routine of rounding up murdering darkies and their crack selling brownie sidekicks.

Because, after all, if we were in that same situation, we would be championing her dogged efforts rather than cursing at her and threatening to run her over with our vehicle for being a busybody.

No. Now, was the guy who the Becky was busting have that reputation?

"If not, why are you defending the behavior?"

Depends upon how one defines "blocking the crosswalk". Was his car jutting slightly out causing such a stir that pedestrians and vehicles were in harm's way? I don't know. But what I am questioning is the need for a woman to make a federal case out of something that can be civilly handled.

"Would it even occur to you to do so if the perpetrator hadn’t been black?"

Here is the context. The picture was a retweet from the parody account “OrNahhTweets” that shows a group of teens dressed in formal wear. The tweet apparently is from the Assistant Principal’s account. She--A BECKY--is new to the school. Appropriately, there was a student walkout.

Regardless, this group of females are not "self-hating white women". They are merely teenage young ladies who, like other Americans, make their own choices when it comes to dating.

“The choices and motivations of those in the pic are not the point. It’s her caption that was the issue.”

Actually, the caption, the choice, AND the motivation are all interwoven here. The issue is that a woman–A BECKY–put in her two cents worth. Perhaps we will find out the reasons why.

    AGREED, partially, Nobody.

One of the two red lights for the eastbound land was burned out at an intersection near me. I told a guy from the city- street division the next time I saw one, because a) the other red was blocked by tree leaves, and b) redundancy is good. For the greens or yellow (not so likely) it wouldn't matter as much, but I've seen one wreck and barely prevented one other at that intersection.

OTOH, I wouldn't bother anyone about motorcycles parked in odd places on sidewalks, or most anything regarding parking unless it is really a hazard, as I've done all the same myself. One time, I had to park the whole car on a wide sidewalk just to go inside the office to pay a parking ticket. "You gotta hurry!" I told them inside, "I'm parked in a bad spot." Haha, good times ...

Neither would I. However, I don’t think that anyone who behaves differently than me should therefore be vilified. I can think of all kinds of things others would tolerate that I wouldn’t, and conversely, all kinds of things that I’d tolerate that others wouldn’t. If you see something illegal that annoys you, you have a right to call the appropriate authority. If you choose to do something illegal, you’ve no right to kick if someone complains. If your connection starts with https://, then you are using some level of encryption. The client (you) and the host (the website) negotiate what security protocol to use when you first connect, and will use the highest common denominator. IOW, if you are running TLS 1.2 and the host is running TLS 1.3, then you both will use TLS 1.2.

These protocols are constantly being tested by the guys in the black hats and the guys in the white hats because a lot of money and confidential information goes across the wire.

Thanks for the info. J.D. Bob. Yeah, I held on to Windows 7 and an old Firefox version until I could no longer load any https sites. On the ones that it could, maybe there was no redirect set, so I could have probably gone to one of them, depending on the link.

I'm not too worried about security, as much as people being able to load my site. I'd been told that the lack of a security layer would give people those [technical risk] (?) warnings, which would keep most away. The thing is, I never saw that myself on other computers and various browsers, strangely enough.

On the security thing. I agree that most breaches are inside jobs. My friend reckons that credit card fraud is very much the same. You've got guys in Indian with access to all this stuff. "Do you habitually park your car so that it blocks the crosswalk?"

The Becky was focusing on the "egregious conduct", and apparently not the race of the man. But the race baiters here and everywhere are having a field day on the matter.

It would appear that you feel women should never report trivial illegalities to the authorities.

Is that only white women who should never do that, or would it apply to colored women as well?

Either way, it’s an interesting position. I’d like to explore it further.

"It would appear that you feel women should never report trivial illegalities to the authorities."

What men AND women of any race or ethnicity should do is to carefully assess this particular situation based on a number of factors and decide if involvement of the parking authority or law enforcement is required, considering that precious police resources would be removed from those neighborhoods where the darkies run roughshod. OR, a man or woman of any race or ethnicity, in a civil manner, could walk into the establishment and state that there is a car that is seemingly blocking the crosswalk, and that it could pose an substantial risk if left unattended.

Of course, if some on the Alt Right would get their way, the woman would have been at home tending to her (white) children. But that is an entirely different manner.

Why is it that in almost every single case like this, it's some species of Being an Assh*le While Black?

You know, you're not supposed to park on crosswalks. You take your chances with getting a ticket if you do.

Always the complaint is that if you were Being an Assh*le While White, it wouldn't happen to you? How in the hell are we ever supposed to know that?

Advice: Stop Being an Assh*le, the problem goes away.

I figure it’s Coalition of the Fringes paying off one of their cohorts.

It’s not like Blacks are doing all that well under the Coalition: they are being gentrified out of some areas; displaced by immigrants in others; tokenism in many economic sectors.

Getting a pass on vice and crime is a chit the handlers are offering.

"Self-hating white woman Tweets pic mocking white men and . . . gets destroyed by woke Twitter."

If Twits should be ignored for their stupidity, how much worse does that make those battalions of "scientists" whose method is to sign a petition?
Anon has an archived link to BBC: Over 1600 "scientists" say gender does not exist, because Trump says it does.

You really have nothing to worry about here. All the major browsers, all companies of any size, and all websites are constantly upgrading their crypto infrastucture, because no one wants to be on the front page of the NYT "ACME Widgets suffers major security breach. 110 million user accounts stolen".

IMNSHO, most of these thefts of user information are inside jobs. Find a guy who has got admin right to the database. Pay him $5000 to dump the user tables to a USB drive, erase the logs, and walk out. Or have a network guy open a port or set up a secret user account. That's probably how the ChiComms stole 100+ million personnel records, including mine, from OPM.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office_of_Personnel_Management_data_breach

"Ars Technica reported that at least one worker with root access to every row in every database was physically located in China. Another contractor had two employees with Chinese passports."

The head of OPM was Katherine Archuleta who before that was the national political director of Barack Obama's 2012 re-election campaign. She's a Latina so we had the required diversity, which was evidently all that mattered.

But when blacks can get away with it at Starbucks, then Beckies must do.

    Replies: @Brutusale

My favorite Starbucks/crosswalk/stop being an asshole story.

My local Starbucks is right in the center of town and it has the busiest crosswalk right outside its door. There’s also a fire hydrant there hard by the crosswalk and right before the entrance to the downtown parking lot behind the retail block. People running in for coffee occasionally park there, hoping the coffee run is shorter than the local cops’ drives down Main Street.

A gentleman (a guy I know and he’s a state cop) came out of Starbucks, looked at the kid and the car, and told him that he was illegally parked. The kid responded with a request that the gentleman mind his own business and to go fuck himself. The gentleman reached into his pocket and pulled out his badge, whereupon the kid began to move to the driver’s door. The cop used his “cop voice” to tell the kid to wait right there, pulled his cell and called the local gendarmes to the scene.

The two cops were very entertaining as they debated just how many violations the kid should be found in violation of. It got up to about $350 in fines before they were done.
