Because the weather is different for blacks than it is for whites, it’s crucial to have more black women meteorologists on TV in order that their lived experience can influence whether or not it’s going to rain tomorrow. Or something. (Does humidity affect hair-dos?)
From the Washington Post news section:
These Black women are changing TV weather, a field long dominated by White men
By Amudalat Ajasa
Updated February 6, 2023For decades, broadcast meteorology has been dominated by White men — leaving out women, and particularly women of color. Of the hundreds of chief meteorologists at news stations across the country, few are Black women.
Now, Black women are fighting to climb the ladder and claim top meteorology roles. For Veronica Johnson, her journey took nearly 30 years.
When it was time for Johnson to decide what she wanted to do with her life, she chose to be a broadcast meteorologist.
The weatherperson you see on TV news may or may not have some academic training in meteorology. For example, of two veteran local news weathermen in the lucrative (if unchallenging) L.A. market, Dallas Raines has a B.S. in meteorology, attained a meteorologist certification, and has taught classes in the subject, so he is considered a “broadcast meteorologist” competent to tweak standard forecasts. Fritz Coleman, in contrast, got his degree only in communications and became a funny DJ on the radio, so he is a “weather reporter,” not a meteorologist.
Stations seem to like to be able to boast that their weather guy is a meteorologist, not just a reader of government forecasts. But it’s not mandatory.
In general, the system seems to work well enough. TV news weather forecasts are pretty accurate these days, and the person on screen usually has a likable personality.
She loved weather, but she also wanted to see more people of color talking about science on television.
“Someone has to be the first,” Johnson said in a recent phone interview. “I’m still standing on the shoulders of the few that have come before me.”
In early December, Johnson was named the new chief meteorologist for WJLA (Channel 7), the ABC affiliate for the D.C. area.
But even as Black women like Johnson chip away at long-standing barriers, the path has been a challenge for those often hidden in the world of meteorology. And the data confirms what Black women in the industry have described: they are grossly underrepresented in meteorology — especially in television.
The American Meteorological Society (AMS) found that Black and African American meteorologists made up 2 percent of the entire membership in 2020, the last year it collected data. The ratio of Black men to women is 60 percent to 40 percent — indicating that Black women make up less than 1 percent of members. That data also includes the news industry. The National Association of Black Journalists says there are about 138 Black meteorologists in journalism across the United States. Of Black meteorologists, about 46 percent are women, according to Jason Frazer, NABJ’s weather and climate task force chair.
“While African Americans make up about 13.6% of the US population, they represent only about 5.5% of the Meteorologists you see on television,” Frazer, a meteorologist and co-host for Fox Weather First, wrote in an email. “That is significantly less than the number of Black TV Anchors and Reporters.”
If I’m reading the data right, blacks make up 2% of all meteorologists (many of whom have non-glamorous jobs predicting the weather in cubicles), but 5.5% of meteorologists you see on TV in the professions’ glamor jobs. So black meteorologists are 2.75 times more likely to get the best jobs in their field.
That sounds reasonable. The ideal TV weather person has both nerd skills and a big, pleasing personality. Americans seem to like watching intelligent black people on TV, both for reasons of pro-black racial bias, and because blacks tend to have more entertaining personalities. (The lady featured in the article seems to be lacking in the personality pizazz department.)
Apparently, about 2.5% of broadcast meteorologists are black women. If society made a big effort and doubled that figure, black women would still be only 1 out of 20 in the field, and likely still complaining about how lonely they feel without enough other black women broadcast meteorologists who know what high (or perhaps low) humidity does to their hairstyle.
Further, almost nobody recognizes that this kind of affirmative action for 3 digit IQ jobs like meteorologist doesn’t suddenly magically produce more blacks with 3 digit IQs, it just redistributes them from some other job, which then has even fewer.
Don’t Latinos/as/nxs make up a bigger proportion of the US population? The US also doesn’t have enough Mexican weather babes. This one would easily win World War Hair….
Personally, I love it. If I were a Spanish-speaker, I would be so well informed.
When she turns around to point to the map.
I have a dream – a dream that one day my children’s children will not have to be subjected to endless stories about ‘firsts’ or representation. Also, that they never try to touch anyone’s hair.
I’ve got some African-American female Meteorologists who want to meet you.
By the way, if you want to know how they feel about White men, watch from 2:55-3:30.
Steve, there won’t be enough black women until there are no white men. Referring to statistics is like shooting spit balls at an Abrams tank. It’s replacement. It’s war.
You can sleep in your closet, but when are you going to wake up, get dressed, and fight?
I mean, we've ALL noticed that whenever rampant "teen" crime/violence/shootings occur, it is only "black shields" who deliver this news to us?
When are Whites going to collectively stand up and say enough of this blatant anti-White treason?
I did not grow up feeling about blacks as I now do. Too much has changed for the FAR WORSE and there's no going back.

Is being on TV really the best job in the field? If you are in a big market, it is probably good, but it seems to me the average meteorologist working normal hours for $60-65k has a better job than someone on TV working weekends or early mornings in a market like Lubbock, Texas or Sioux City, Iowa. From what I have seen the TV stations in small markets pay their lower level staff wages that barely beat fast food. That is why they churn through young talent with delusions on how big they are going to make it before most of them give up and do something else.
What about the weatherman on the Mary Tyler Moore Show? He was this big ole black guy. That was the whole joke.
Jerry got confused between Mark McEwen and Al Roker. We know why, but he explains to the sensitive would-be girlfriend that "well, they're both chubby weathermen".
Skip to 03:45, but this whole summary of that episode is hilarious.

No, no, no. There are not enough Latin American women meteorologists.
(Thanks and all credit for my awareness of this goes to Achmed E. Newman.)
Also possible less queer worship, girl-boss worship--more normal sex roles. And perhaps less general minoritarian pandering to Jews, Muslims, Asians. (Though Jews will work to avert that--keep minoritarianism burning bright.) Latinos generally seem pretty "human normal"--just notably less bright, conscientious, inventive and with much lower social trust. So you get a sloppier, crappier, poorer society, but with buxom pretty whitish weather girls.Replies: @Achmed E. Newman, @onetwothree, @Colin Wright, @Truth
I’m increasing seeing this phrase pop up in various places. What does it mean exactly? Could a person have a “non-lived” experience?
If I started hallucinating about how I was really a woman, would that constitute a “non-lived” experience? Or would I be “living” but also “non-living” my true gender and therefore need Trans surgery?
I’m confused.
Maybe only living people can have “lived” experiences, while Zombies (who are not living) have “non-lived” experiences. If so, I want to commend whoever created the phrase. They recognize the need to confront the chronic neglect of the Zombie-American community and their “non-lived” experiences.
I noticed most weather girls tend to be physically attractive. I guess hearing about an incoming tsunami is a bit more tolerable when the news of your impending doom is broken by a “hot” woman.
Just like trannies went from being gays who hoped to bag a drunk straight guy to people with no expertise willing to invent a fantasy world to be able to correct others, so too "lived experience" means "I don't understand basic economics or physics but you need to listen to my opinion." Schizophrenic society is the central problem, almost everything leads back to that. We can't have anything until we pretty much agree on most conditions, as a starting point for resolving legitimate disagreements. Divide and conquer turned domestic.
AND, if you were a White Man meteorologist and this was your dream job, you’d be damned pissed that the TV stations won’t even give you interviews. Were it me, I’d be completely fed up with this BS about “let’s do some calculations and see how we should apply Affirmative Action the ‘right’ way.”
You’re a blogger, and your cube/office jobs were many years ago, when AA was around, but the numbers were still better for White Men. Imagine walking in one of their shoes now, instead of the shoes of these ctrl-left clowns of the Lyin’ Press.
OK, I’m calm. Do you think we should transfer over all our Latin American weather hotties videos to this thread? Readers may also want to check out the Battle of the International Weather Girls.
How about the commercials that air on TV? Black women are featured in almost every one. The same is true of online advertisements. It’s insane! I guess the goal is to raise the status of black women, who are the most masculine, ugliest women, by making them the most prominent. Med and Castiza women deserve to be in more ads. There should be more women who look like Bettina Brenna, a very underrated actress from the 1960s.
Right. I’m biased by how good local newscasters are in Los Angeles, the #2 market. The locals typically are the survivors of a Darwinian filtering process that started in some place like Wichita Falls.
“Does humidity affect hair-dos?”
A world of yes. The actress who played Shirley Bennett on Community (Yvette Nicole Brown) had to wear a wig because the weather would change her hair enough during the course of a week to effect continuity. Depending on the style being worn, that’s uncommon for actresses with African ancestry.
Maybe I need a black meteorologist/cosmetologist to keep my coif under controlReplies: @HammerJack
We need more hot latina weather ladies. Mexico does it right.
New York has always been a competitive local news market, so our weathermen were traditionally actual meterologists, although Tex Antoine* wasn’t one. Dr. Frank Field was an optometrist who was a weatherman for many years. He nicknamed his son Elliott “Storm” and Storm followed him into the field (no pun intended). Now we have Tito Puente’s daughter.
Bob Harris was the weatherman on WCBS2 for many years calling himself “Dr. Bob”, claiming a Columbia Ph.D. in geophysics. He lasted a decade before someone ratted him out in 1979. He eventually landed on WPIX11 for many years after that, having built up tremendous goodwill over the years.

Why does anybody watch TV weather? I mean now that seriously localized hourly forecasts are easy to find on the internet (and even a built in feature of some browsers).
I have not watched a TV weather report in maybe two decades or more, and even radio weather is only occasionally and only in the car. And I’m pretty sure I’m not unusually advanced in this.
Seriously, what am I missing?
That said, I'm sure there's a numeric answer. And a market. Like my buddy's wife, who still watches the Oscars. Who enjoys TV shows for New Year's Eve countdown. (A friend of ours hurt her feelings by saying they were stupid. I told my friend later that I agreed...but that I would not have made his wife feel bad and said it...certainly not while a guest.)

P.s. The advert that played for me when I watched the clip above was for Kia and showed a black "commander" who had left her keys on the moon. These guys are trying so hard it's getting silly. Even middle America is wise to this and starting to make fun of it.
I believe it has long been known that weather watching and news are related to extremes and/or travel planning.
The longer you live in the same place, the more likely you are to already know the parameters of normal weather and how to respond.
But in extreme circumstances, like a hurricane, everything on TV and radio is about that. Same for extreme flooding or blizzards.
The more you go outside and need to travel, the more you pay attention.

I’ve hardly watched television for about 15 years, so I may not be the best judge. But that sounds off. I find blacks to be very annoying for the most part. They get lots of polite laughter, but I can’t imagine many of them truly being found to be cool, intelligent, interesting, or entertaining. Very different and visually not very appealing sums them up for me. Why do they have to be shoved into everything?

“Americans seem to like watching intelligent black people on TV…” Do they really? If so, it simply highlights the sad state of affairs around here. If I never saw another black on the tube, intelligent (unlikely) or no (highly likely), it’d be a dream come true.

* They've been plate-shaped for 20 years, so I should say I don't use the idiot plate.
Mike Tirico is probably the top sportscaster these days. He’s good at his job.
Steve, I doubt this is true anymore, to the extent that it ever was.
After the last decade of having blacks jammed everywhere, and then the last two years of absolute paint-it-black insanity … I’m highly doubtful.
I know AnotherMom and I–both of us racially tolerant folks, with black friends and neighbors–have started several movies and TV shows over the past couple years only to pull the plug when Hollyweird is jamming yet another out of place–sometimes out of time and place!–black at us–including this idea that blacks are or should be the romantic partners of whites.
I never had any interest in some “black pic”, but I was perfectly fine with the usual “diversity” casting–salt and pepper cops, etc. And I’m still willing to watch say Dave Chappelle. (Though I haven’t sat down to it yet.) He’s Dave Chappelle–a black guy–so I expect to see a black guy. But I’m now thoroughly sick and tired of having blacks jammed in my face.
~~
I actually think the sweet spot in any market–what I would do if I was a local news exec–is to be the least black news in town.
Obviously, if you are in some southern metro, or big northeast/midwest market you’re going to have to have some major black presence. Still you can shoot for the minimum.
But if you are in some market where the black population is at or below the American population level (13%), I’d go for zero blacks in the big four–anchors, sports, weather. If it’s a market skewing Latino it should be clear winner to put on some pretty Latinas–co-anchor and/or weather–as your “diversity” cover. Other places–Asian girls.
“Least black” strikes me as the winning market strategy these days–the $100 bill on the sidewalk. You just have to be willing to grab it and not be a pansy when the whining starts.
I have not watched a TV weather report in maybe two decades or more, and even radio weather is only occasionally and only in the car. And I'm pretty sure I'm not unusually advanced in this.

That question makes sense now, but once, the only blacks on TV were either conventionally intelligent or at least streetwise and wise-cracky. A person learning about blacks exclusively from television could be forgiven for expecting that they were the most intelligent group in the country. It’s hard to exaggerate how big Cosby was in the 80s.
One of the most vivid memories of my childhood is watching WTVJ meteorologist Bryan Norcross on a Sony Watchman while lying in my grandparents’ hallway during the worst part of Hurricane Andrew.

Spanish-language news casts in the U.S. are pretty notorious for blatant babehood when it comes to female newscasters combined with skimpy outfits that would be “unprofessional” by English-language news stations.

Who the hell wants a black female meteorologist?
I want either (a) someone I’ll automatically credit with knowing what they’re talking about (white or Asian male), or (b) somebody who’s at least easy on the eyes, as they say (white or possibly Hispanic or Asian female, no older than thirty).
Black women don’t qualify under either heading. I don’t see why I should expect that to change, either.
Yeah. I wish it were otherwise, but while most Latino countries avoid being outright disasters, there aren’t many Norways either. Even such supposed successes as Chile aren’t exactly my idea of utopia.

Because the weather is different for blacks than it is for whites, it’s crucial to have more black women meteorologists on TV in order that their lived experience can influence whether or not it’s going to rain tomorrow. Or something. (Does humidity affect hair-dos?)
We need to channel more cash to certain groups, so they can enter STEM fields to succeed and exceed beyond our wildest expectations. Beyond! Bigger, fatter… farther.
Recently we were treated to the award-winning Lizzo’s appearance at the Grammys (not Grammies?).
A good assignment would be for students to try and determine her weight. How much space would she displace? Hint: she’s big. Don’t let her bathe in your tub, Archimedes.
You’re in!
The weather channel keeps switching weather girls after relatively short intervals, and they occasionally hire some smoking hot women, so hot that I actually check to see if they’re on when I’m checking out the national weather. I’m constantly disappointed when they switch to another, hot, but less hot gal. I want my smoking hot, funny, gregarious weather girl!
So the problem is manifold. How can we get more hot black women who fit that criteria, to become interested in putting on a little show while reading cue cards for the weather in general, or even getting a degree in meteorology in particular, because apparently, hot black women aren’t that interested in that damn-ass shit. We have one local black woman doing the weather here in L.A. who looks like an emancipated librarian. I never intentionally watch her for anything besides the weather. A hotter girl doing the exact same job will win my consistent viewership. Race is irrelevant!
This is about hot, and not as hot!Replies: @Joe Stalin, @Prester John

My all-time favorite weatherman was someone who grew up here in Indianapolis and early in his career was the weatherman for one of the local tv stations before he went on to bigger things. He could not stay serious while doing the weather report. For example, instead of just saying hail was coming he would say hail the size of canned hams was headed this way and then grin at the camera. His name was David Letterman.

The reporter in the first video is so clueless about aviation, it’s annoying. Also, the video (file footage) is in clear weather, which gives a completely different idea in viewers’ heads of what happened.
FedEx was conducting a Cat-III approach, which means the visibility was REALLY low, under 1,200 ft. The tower would have been safe to clear SW for take-off, if the airplane was already in position. It was not. That 5 miles out translates to about 2 minutes. The tower guy couldn’t see SW airlines, and ground radar is only good for so much.
I’m wondering if the FedEx pilots actually saw SW or were clued in by it’s altitude on TCAS (shows nearby traffic) that it was still on the ground. Southwest should not have accepted the take-off clearance unless they were going to expedite it.
BTW, from the voice, I believe it was FedEx that tried to tell SW to abort. That way, FedEx would b in the air, and SW on the ground. However, they couldn’t know how fast SW was already going.
Black females comprise about 6.5 percent of the US population and should comprise about 6.5 percent of weather casters IF they are qualified.

FLASHBACK:
When potential African weather girls protested Google and YouTube’s cultural imperialism of censoring photos and vids of their traditional celebration of dancing naked in public. In Google’s warped imperialist perspective, some of these girls are considered “underage.”
BTW, are there any amateur anthropologists who know of Western European young women who insist on their right indulge in equivalent mass topless public ceremonies?
Seems like in 2023, wherever this is still going on, one might conclude that the celebrant’s world view might reflect on a group’s nature, and if that’s true, it makes it all the more difficult to take equal regard seriously. Even weather reporting.
Maybe that’s why so many African Americans attempt to steal the dignity of our western european forefathers, like with “Hamilton,” since most Africans at that time had no written language of their own, much less any hand in crafting our constitution in English, while attempting to ignore real aspects of their own culture that simply won’t go away. To this day…

The plain fact is that people generally enjoy seeing people who resemble themselves — only more lovely and more entertaining. That white people generally fashioned a country to suit themselves (“systemic racism”) is an accusation that they should be willing to admit to. And they should recognize that non-whites might have other ideas about who should be seen. So how will this be worked out? I can’t escape the thought that the entire trend is to make the country less agreeable to white people. Maybe there’s a happy balance where everyone is content. Maybe not.

Good observations. Woke literature is spawning an interesting linguistic fad, producing bizarre phrasings about dreadful things which seem to have somehow escaped people’s notice until now. In perusing a book entitled (in blissful unawareness of the irony), Biased, I am finding many such usages. I discover there is a dangerous place termed a “multiracial space,” for which the author imparts sage advice for blacks to “navigate” and still “feel safe” in (by haranguing whites of course). Is this not the real world, by another name? And how about “don’t behave like an asshole” as the best way not be treated like one? Nah, hell, that would be just wrong, as we white devils spend just about all of our time obsessing over our dusky brethren, ever yearning to knot up our nooses and put on our white sheets. Only then, we can be our true selves, the author slyly implies; a fate we can escape by earnestly confessing our inborn racial guilt and working hard to change the way we think. (Well, that trick did work on the Germans, didn’t it.)
That’s the ticket, looking within ourselves to solve the problems of society which some might say are caused by, oh, the unprecedented transfer of the national wealth to the top one-half of one percent. The old question “Cui bono?” still applies – who benefits by creating such division among the citizenry? Gosh, what a coincidence – it’s the very class that is now so public-spirited as to provide oceans of grant money to fund this great woke scholarship…
You’ve answered your own question. Middle-aged and elderly blacks are probably the largest TV-watching demographic at this point. Everyone else is into their niche streaming channels, gaming, Internet etc.
The times I happen to catch local news in a waiting room the talking heads look pretty pathetic. Thirty years reading a teleprompter and waving her hand at a map, and Veronica Johnson might be topping out at $100K in the DC market; most are in the mid 5-figures.
The subtext is a clever, personable, middle-aged white guy, or black guy for that matter, can impart a lot of unwarranted gravitas to the role of TV weatherman–older guys are great bullshitters. But black women just seem like they’re about ready to lecture you on their hair. Nobody finds that endearing except other black women and their white women groupies. So when the local news starts filling up with Pioneering Weatherwomen Of Color, that tells you who’s still watching TV.
Latino men apparently still watch TV, and guess who does the weather.

If you ever have them in an academic setting you’ll learn they are very difficult to teach. They come in two distinct flavors. Remember they come from a hyper-masculine society. Some of them are so used to being yelled at that they won’t take you seriously if you talk to them in a normal tone at normal volume. They respond to yelling, and nothing else. Others have developed such man-hate that they will not listen to anything you say. No matter how you say it. It used to really frustrate me, but now I recognize it and I’m able to leave it alone.
It is absolutely nauseating to see that chubby black squab host such traditionally White events like the Masters or gymnastics or whatever. Like watching that ugly as sin Al Roker do the weather. Might as well stick Lizzo on there.
Also, woke culture dictates that you do not stereotype Neanderthals: https://www.ancientpages.com/2023/02/07/proof-that-neanderthals-ate-crabs-90000-years-ago-is-another-nail-in-the-coffin-for-primitive-cave-dweller-stereotypes/?fbclid=IwAR0lYRk_UCn73md2Qu-JI-V1KCwm2tKU83QXGrhaErBTGHEFuODsEheTAPo

Wanting more intelligent black women in any particular career field is the same logic of the education advocates who want all public schools to have more white kids and believe it can be obtained with busing and mandatory integration. They never explain how they are going to do it with a shrinking number of white kids and with many of those white kids living in very rural areas. they also never explain how to accomplish their racial goals when so many other organizations have the same goals of increasing diversity.

More than half a lifetime ago I was in Bermuda during the process of Bermudianization.
This was the process by which skilled (mostly government) jobs that were occupied by expatriates were identified and local Bermudians (mostly, but not all black) were identified to be given appropriate training and internships so that they could take over these positions which required work permits for foreigners and expatriots.
The key element about these positions was that usually they were overpaid sinecures. However they often required special qualifications such as degrees in law, medicine, architecture, engineering, etc.
It seems to me that the same thing applies to certain sinecures in the US. If there is an overabundance of people qualified to be TV meteorologists, and the positions are overpaid, then basically such positions become a matter of patronage and interest groups will want their fair share of such positions.
The same thing goes for positions like senior police, firefighting, and education jobs when the truth is that nobody is particularly good at these jobs, but the pay and pension is great.

No, he is quite right. You – as always – are quite wrong.
You are an idiot and a tool.
Not everyone reads every post. Plus, some added value:
One has to wonder whether these are an inside job– this is from The Insider, after all– cooked up (so to speak) by activists who know it will go viral.
No director, no union scale, cost-effective presentations, but can't put on resumé.
They should ask for a raise.
Yes, if you view those jobs as no-show sinecures, then it makes perfect sense to have a sort of ethnic/racial spoils system. Such a system has informally existed in big city American politics since at least the 19th century, never mind that we are supposed to have a colorblind system.
However, people have often mentioned that in the case of certain jobs (e.g. airline pilot) you are overpaid every single day of your career except maybe for ONE day and on that day you more than make up for the amount that you are being overpaid. Just the other day an air traffic controller in Austin apparently directed two planes (one taking off and one landing) to use the same runway at the same time. They came within 100 feet of each other and only quick reaction by one of the pilots averted hundreds of people from getting killed.
If you view airline pilots as guys who go thru lots of routine checklists and punch coordinates into the autopilot, then maybe it’s harmless to give these jobs out on a racial quota basis instead of trying to get the best people possible regardless of race. But maybe there’s gonna be a day when they are called upon to deal with something novel and difficult and there’s no time to start reading checklists or its not on the checklist and you want someone who can analyze and properly react to a difficult situation in real time. Right at that moment, all the passengers on the plane, even the black ones, start praying that the pilot looks like Sully and not Lizzo.
Likewise, maybe the head of the FDNY is mainly a figurehead but was he a figurehead on 9/11 or did he make life and death decisions? And you might think that nothing that the head of a school system does involves anything important (in which case why are we paying him so much money?) but in the long run, we know that the quality of management is important. If these jobs are really unimportant, then either get rid of them altogether or stop overpaying the office holders.

I really like following Michael Kofman. See this podcast for example:
https://warontherocks.com/2023/02/unfolding-offensives-and-counter-offensives-in-ukraine/
And it’s not about his view. It’s about intelligence and analytical ability and honesty to revist priors and to admit doubt. In contrast Macgregor has video after video of blustering.
And please spare me the blabla about CNA being a FFRDC. I know that. Two of my best friends from the military, work for Rand, now. And both of them are way brighter than Macgregor. They’re not involved with Ukraine stuff, have other beats…but just I would stack either of those guys against Macgregor in any kind of intellectual effort (STEM degree, SATs, what have you).
I’d be happy with a contrarian spokesperson that had high intelligence and honesty. It’s not the viewpoint, it’s the analyst. But I can’t find an intelligent Macgregor!
The one fellow that you can (possibly) characterize as a contrarian who is bright/honest is John Mearsheimer. It’s not one for one, since he covers geopolitics, not war news. But he’s a real academic and very bright. Also, when he does talk about the war itself, he has WAY more uncertainty than the yukyuks like Macgregor.
AND he’s willing to discuss his priors (like Russia did worse than expected, Ukraine did better). Heck, Ritter is also sort of a yukyuk at times (and not a Steve Sailer intellect). But at least he was honest about revisiting his priors.
Being contrarian, “just because” or “to oppose globohomo” is stupid and is liable to mislead you. What’s required to perceive reality accurately is critical thinking (of one’s own views, in particular) and an analytical frame of mind that makes you update your priors as new information becomes available.
Otherwise you are just rolling the dice hoping you get two sixes. If you roll enough times, you are going to get them once in a while, but you’ll be bankrupt in the long run.

For a more nuanced perspective…
For decades, the two most prominent weathermen, uh, weatherpersons in New York city were “Doctor” Bob Harris and “Doctor” Frank Field. Both honorifics were misleading.
Bob Harris had no doctorate in meteorology, or anything else. He was fired once that was discovered. I suspect he was caught in what he thought would be an innocent lie. He probably threw a fake PhD. onto his resumé to get he gig in the nation’s largest TV market, and when one of the suits at the station ordered him to use the title in his name, he had no choice but to go along. He eventually got back on TV as just “Bob Harris.”
Dr. Frank Field was an optometrist by training. When that was revealed, they let him just carry on as if the news had never broken.
Notice that “TVDad ” in the new Progressive commercials is wearing Cosby style sweaters
Passenger airline pilots are a bit of an exception to the rule. Every time they fly they could kill everybody on board if they screwed up. Usually that sense of self-preservation does prevent this, though in the case of the missing Malaysian aircraft and one or two other cases there is a suspicion that the pilots were suicidal.
The head of the New York fire department may have made brilliant decisions on 9/11, but on the other hand he might have made disastrous decisions. Presumably there are existing manuals on procedures for burning skyscrapers. If not there ought to be.
But what about the head of police in Uvalde who didn’t want to interrupt his lunch break?
Anyway, being a TV meteorologist is not really a matter of life and death when most people have weather apps on their cell phones, but presumably it is a desirable and well-paid position that leads to recognition in the local community.
Incidentally, in my comments on Bermudianization, I did not express an opinion as to whether it was good or bad, and obviously it could vary a lot depending on the position and the capability of individuals, but certainly a lot of citizens of Bermuda had the impression that many of these jobs were well paid sinecures wrongly held by expatriates that could be done just as well by locals if they were given the chance.

If you live some place where there are few if any weather extremes, i.e. floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards, droughts, and the like, then fine. No sense wasting five minutes on weather.
If you rarely leave the nursing home, you can safely change the channel.
The chief made a couple big (bad) decisions while fighting the fire during 9/11. McKinsey was hired to examine Fire Department response and produced a flaccid report (lacked real penetrating examination) and basically sung the praises of the department but said they needed more coordination with police (duh). It later came out that they had been shown forensic evidence proving that the chief misoperated the radio repeater, which was a major cause of deaths to firemen (never heard the recall order). But they decided not to include it.
This is not to deprecate the chief. I don’t know his overall competence. And it is hard to perform under pressure (and perhaps he was more of an administrator at that point.) However, there’s a reason why aircraft accidents are very objective and factual and penetrating. Not fluff from McKinsey MBAs trying to “contribute” (while getting press for the Firm). It’s very common in accident investigations to learn of human error (humans are prone to it). So there is no shame in just letting the chips fall where they may.

She got hired by one of the local TV stations to do feature reporting and weekend news, then eventually moved up to the 6 PM evening news. The Russians are certainly in a good position to know whether it was a chemical agent. They could ask the guys who killed Dawn Staley in England. Let’s see some lab results.
War is not pretty. The Russians kill people every day , including a lot of civilians and not just soldiers. What the hell are those Russian soldiers doing in the first place, up to their neck in an icy canal in someone else’s country? They should have stayed in their own country and then they would not be dead. This is like the Chinese who are now complaining that we shot down their spy balloon. Don’t send spy balloons and people to other people’s countries and then nothing bad will happen to them.
I can’t tell what is happening from that video, which BTW is very chopped up – there are numerous cuts. The 1st grenade strikes only inches away from the soldiers. They could have been injured from shrapnel and concussion. Whatever was in that 1st grenade should have killed them because it was almost a direct hit. By the time the 2nd grenade lands, one of the guys is already in convulsions. This is not proof of chemical weapons use.
As you probably know, when the Germans invaded Russia, the USSR supported all sorts of partisan units that operated behind German lines and which were not under the direct command of the Red Army. A lot of these partisan units did not nice things like killing captured Germans (they were in no position to operate POW camps). When your country is in an existential struggle, you don’t necessarily fight according to Hoyle. The same thing is going on in Ukraine. In addition to the regular AFU, there are all sorts of volunteers out there operating drones and such and dropping improvised explosives on the Russians. They have done an amazing job. Guys who were hobbyists and programmers before the war started and with no experience in the military or weapons design have repurposed off the shelf civilian hardware and are out there killing Russians and blowing up Russian hardware. These guys are not under the firm control of the AFU. Could I swear that one of these guys did not decide to put some sort of gas in a grenade to kill the men who have invaded their homeland? Anything is possible, but we know that Russia is committing systematic war crimes that are commanded from the highest levels in a country where they have no business being in the first place.

So, maybe the real issue is ugly black women strategically using their race as currency so that their potential employers will overlook their being hard to look at, in the interests of affirmative action.
Everyone must admit that reading the weather report off cue cards is a cush job. How many readers here would take the job, if they had no other options to make as much money for the daily light duty to perform? I would bet most would. I would do it!
Maybe black women, who are hard on the eyes, are going for this, while strategically framing it as a racial issue, simply because it’s easy money. If they’re smart enough to pull that off, they’re likely smart enough to read cue cards.
I vote that this is an ugly black chick issue.
Bring more hot black chicks to the table, and the “racial discrepancy” issue disappears.
America needs to have “the talk” regarding ugly black women, and where they can properly fit into society. Their continuing encroachment into the entertainment field is depressing the country, and this perverse practice is clearly artificially undermining television ratings beyond weather reporting.
Ugly black chicks are expensive.
As Meretricious pointed out, there aren't that many of them. On the demand side, weatherperson money just isn't that good in a larger town. A hot black chick with decent intelligence can make more money as a realtor or project management. Or on Instagram for all I know.

Under the current regime it is considered grossly inappropriate to give young women sound advice about dating, marriage, family--and appropriate romantic partners.
Meanwhile the minoritarian regime now propagandizes black men-white women relentlessly--and of course, censors facts about the results. And unfortunately, many women do not have the intelligence or independence of mind to make good decisions.

Not single-handedly, but I’d assign about 55% to him, 40% to Southwest, and 5% to FedEx. I could also be convinced to up the SW percentage. Clearing a jet for takeoff with someone on a 3 mile final is not unusual (its the standard at Washington Reagan) in clear weather. I don’t know what speed a 767 is going on short final, but 180 knots for 3 miles is one minute, and I’d guess they’d be slower than 180 knots (maybe 130?) so have more than a minute.
This was the opposite of clear weather. If I remember they were reporting RVR (runway visual range) of 1,200 feet at the end of the runway, 600 RVR at the center. That’s really bad. Nobody can see anybody else – FedEx can’t see SW, SW can’t see FedEx, and the tower can’t see either of them.
Further, because they were using the ILS, Southwest would have (or should have, its not clear where he was) been behind the ILS clear area, further from the runway than in clear weather where they’d be at or near the hold short line.
Controller: should not have cleared someone to take off with a jet at 3 miles and below 1,000′ (assuming the normal 3 degree glideslope). Fail.
Southwest: Tower told him landing traffic was at 3 miles when he cleared them. Should have declined the clearance and waited for FedEx. Being cleared for takeoff doesn’t mean you have to roll RIGHT NOW. It just means you’re cleared to go. You can’t sit there all day – after a bit the tower would ask you what you’re doing and if you didn’t go would cancel your clearance and tell you to get out of the way. But if you are going to go, then go! It seems like he took his time to get rolling. Double Fail.
FedEx: He realized SW and tower had screwed up and commenced the go-around. Good. But he also knew that Southwest, who he couldn’t see, was somewhere below him and would be accelerating and climbing (and being flown by a guy that thought commencing his takeoff with a 767 on short final was a good idea). They were using 18 Left which means the whole airport complex was off to his right. There isn’t much terrain right around AUS so he should have continued the climb to go around, but jinked 20 degrees or so left to get clear of the SW clown.
Achmed may disagree.
I doubt they saw them. I think they heard the tower clear SW then heard SW say “rolling” or whatever it was he said. If I’m FedEx my reaction would have been “WTFF are these guys doing”.

If I started hallucinating about how I was really a woman, would that constitute a "non-lived" experience? Or would I be "living" but also "non-living" my true gender and therefore need Trans surgery?
I'm confused.
Maybe only living people can have "lived" experiences, while Zombies (who are not living) have "non-lived" experiences. If so, I want to commend whoever created the phrase. They recognize the need to confront the chronic neglect of the Zombie-American community and their "non-lived" experiences. I noticed most weather girls tend to be physically attractive. I guess hearing about an incoming tsunami is a bit more tolerable when the news of your impending doom is broken by a "hot" woman.

Bon appetit
No, I don’t have any disagreement on any of this, Mr. Badwhite.
You also brought up a point that I thought about only after I posted that. There’s no way the tower could have cleared SW to “line up and wait” earlier, as, yes, they should be behind the ILS critical line when FedEx is flying that ILS. An aircraft must hold short of it if the visibility is less than 2 miles or the ceiling was less than 800 ft. (Most definitely, that was the case.) What I don’t know is the criteria for how close in an A/C must be on the ILS, and the ILS critical area is in effect.
So, no, there was not enough time. Making that worse was the fact that, with the visibility way down, the SW Captain (steering on the ground) would have to move more slowly to get in position versus on a clear day. The tower didn’t anticipate that.
I listened to an audio file on this. I don’t know exactly, but by the time SW muttered “rolling”, FedEx must have been inside of 2 miles, 40-45 seconds out. It takes that or more for 737 (well, these jets in general) to get off the ground! I’d have also called “go-around” when I heard “rolling”, and, as you said, a left turn was required. “Fed Ex XXX, going around, turning left to 09o” Let the tower get with departure and figure it out from there.
One thing to correct, William, based on what I listened to. FedEx gave their position to the tenth, “5.3 out on the ILS-Cat III” when they checked in. Still that’s 2 minutes, max.
I agree with your percentages, too. Approach speed could be from 125 kt to 150 kt. by my guess, depending on weight.
But the AUS near collision proves Steve's point.
If they'd have a black weather woman the visibility would not have been a crappy 1200 feet and none of this would have happened.
About a year or so ago Columbus, Ohio hired a black woman from Detroit as its new police chief. She, in turn, hired a black female friend as her deputy. Then they paid for an early out for over 100 senior cops and, finally, paid $250 thousand to get rid of some shigh level white officers. Now, guess what??? There’s a shortage of officers and they can’t find any minorities who want the job. All entirely predictable.
Re: Quotas…
Recent airline near-misses and miscues are increasing. I am stunned that no one is mentioning the quota systems being installed in pilot training and air traffic control. These (below) are not new articles but it looks like the chickens are coming home to roost. Can this be amplified somehow?

Many do, but unfortunately far too many do not.
Under the current regime it is considered grossly inappropriate to give young women sound advice about dating, marriage, family–and appropriate romantic partners.
Meanwhile the minoritarian regime now propagandizes black men-white women relentlessly–and of course, censors facts about the results. And unfortunately, many women do not have the intelligence or independence of mind to make good decisions.
Conservatives need to be much more assertive in giving their young women good advice.

If you rarely leave the nursing home, you can safely change the channel.Replies: @The Last Real Calvinist
It’s also related to economics. If you grow up in Iowa, like I did, not only is the weather full of extremes — heat, cold, snow, thunderstorms, tornadoes, you name it — it also has a serious, immediate effect on the local economy, which is still heavily agricultural. If there’s a thunderstorm in June with baseball-sized hail that will pound your tender growing crops into shredded mush, then you’re going to pay attention.
Living in Hong Kong now, where the weather is very different, and generally pretty boring, I see again and again how profoundly ignorant people are of even kindergarten-level weather concepts.
We need to channel more cash to certain groups, so they can enter STEM fields to succeed and exceed beyond our wildest expectations. Beyond! Bigger, fatter... farther.

What’s funny is how there is never a push to include more women (regardless of their color) in careers like roofing/garbage collection/sewage water treatment/etc. They clamor to be included in top tier, do nothing jobs, but never complain about being unrepresented in the septic tank pumping business.

Russia only got to be the world’s biggest country by repeatedly conquering its neighbors. In late Czarist times, the Russian foreign office searched its files and sent to the czar a congratulatory message saying that of Russia’s last (IIRC) 38 wars, Russia had started 36 of them.
I can recall as a kid in the 1960s riding home from Big Bear Lake in the San Bernardino Mountains in January and the radio announcer spending five minutes on extremely detailed weather forecasts for the orange-growing districts of the Inland Empire because that was a huge fraction of the local economy and the decision of whether or not to laboriously put out smudge-pots to save the orange trees was crucial.
100%.
And how many cities have a 100% underground subway/light rail system. Even in NYC, there are many lines above ground.
Bring more hot black chicks to the table, and the “racial discrepancy” issue disappears.
As Meretricious pointed out, there aren’t that many of them. On the demand side, weatherperson money just isn’t that good in a larger town. A hot black chick with decent intelligence can make more money as a realtor or project management. Or on Instagram for all I know.
This actually applies to personable, decently smart white guys too. They can become realtors, insurance agents, store managers etc.

How many with fires that couldn’t be put out? They couldn’t get to the ones in the big towers which also by design of the hijackers had enough fuel for a cross country trip. After they went down damaging or destroying a plethora of utilities, there wasn’t enough water pressure to adequately fight WTC 7 which had been hit by debris.
The credible on it’s face Official story is that thermal expansion fatally compromised the structural integrity of the three buildings that collapsed, starting cascading failures (and I’m amazed by the people I’d
debatedargued this over who don’t understand what a housewife does to unstick a metal lid on a glass jar, elementary school STEM might as well be voodoo to them). And case in point, for all three the decision to abandon the effort was made, even if that didn’t get to many of the firefighters as discussed, or perhaps quickly enough.

Some things don’t change. This describes Russia’s attempt to take over Ukraine perfectly.
Other countries were not worried whether the USSR was rational. They were worried because their long term strategic plan was to probe for weakness and attempt to expand wherever they thought that they had found it. That they sometimes bit off more than they could chew was not the problem. It was the biting itself that was the problem.
China OTOH, I’ll bet has BOTH a long-term strategic plan, AND is making strategic preparation. Apparently this whole balloon thing (which was much bigger than this one balloon) is part of preparing the battle space.
