Gun violence soars amid crises of health, public trust, officer reluctance

June 27, 2020 – 11:50 PM… So far this year, ShotSpotter activations and 911 calls about gunshots in Minneapolis have more than doubled from a year ago, according to a Star Tribune analysis of police data.
ShotSpotter was invented in 1992 by John C. Lahr, a seismologist in Silicon Valley, during the year that East Palo Alto was the Murder Capital of America.
Out of 3,218 such shots-fired calls this year, nearly half have been filed since George Floyd was killed on May 25.
Through Tuesday, 190 people had been shot across Minneapolis. That’s up 47% from this time last year and significantly higher than the five-year average for the same time span, according to MPD data.
In one case that underscores how entrenched the problem is, authorities say a 17-year-old boy who was shot in the leg last week has been wounded in three shootings over the past month and a half.
OK, has he been shot 3 times or 4 times in the last month and a half? Heather read that as 4 times, but it might only be three.
The surge in gun violence is not confined to Minneapolis. In St. Paul, reported firearm discharges have more than doubled when compared to this time last year. The first two weeks of June were particularly violent, as shots-fired calls quintupled from 2019.
Thirty-one people in the capital city have been shot in the last month alone — a third of the year’s overall victim count. Homicides are already on track to surpass 2019’s all-time high in shooting deaths.
“My fear is that this is just the beginning,” said Steven Belton, president of the Twin Cities Urban League, while visiting the scene of a quadruple shooting near Merwin’s Liquors in north Minneapolis. “Parents are overwhelmed,” he said, likening the financial and emotional toll of COVID-19 to a “pressure cooker.” “People are unemployed, stressed out because of that … looking for a way to release it.”
Thurman Barnes, assistant director of the New Jersey Center on Gun Violence Research, a think tank based out of Rutgers University, said the ripple effects from Floyd’s death may have contributed to increasing violence in Minneapolis, much as it did in Baltimore after the in-custody death of Freddie Gray in 2015. Floyd’s case, he pointed out, followed the deaths of Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery in Kentucky and Georgia, respectively, two other widely publicized killings of African-Americans.
It’s almost as if each time the media hypes Black Lives Matter narratives, they wind up getting more blacks murdered by other blacks…
… “What they do is personal and it’s driven by social media,” said Ramsey County undersheriff Mike Martin, who serves as president of the Minnesota chapter of the Midwest Gang Investigators Association. “They’re still driving around selling dope on the street, but now they can wear face masks and not look out of place.”
Some youths appear emboldened by the ability to conceal their identities in public, Martin said, posting videos online flaunting cash and drugs, “laughing like it’s a game of cops and robbers.”

I wondered how this shotspotter distinguishes gun shots from some types of fireworks, BTW. Upon trying to find out on the Shot Spotter site, the issue is kind of blown off, saying yep, you can’t. but it can tell, with no explanation. Per a Chicago news story, this was a problem with it before. With the computational power of modern computers, the differences in the acoustic signatures can be determined now.
That might be important tonight in a lot of places, but in places with lots of Hispanics, you’ve got even more problems due to celebratory shots that aren’t just from gang members and reprobates like George Floyd.
The Twin Cities region during the 1931-1933 period was a hotbed of white gangster activity. But I get your point: present day Twin Cities is spiraling downward into a Mogadishu hellscape.
As far as distinguishing between fireworks and gun shots, I once inquired on a knowledgeable and very reputable shooting forum about the ability to trick a gun shot detection system. The replies from the more knowledgeable people was that these systems are very sophisticated and are not to be tricked. Come on, you know that’s beaners doing that. There are plenty of them on East Lake Street, for sure, but the Twin Cities are on the middle-to-low side of Hispanic immigration. Way more than Cincinnati, but nothing like western Chicago, let alone East L.A.
The first thing you see when leaving Minnesota on the interstates are fireworks merchants– in buildings, not tents. They are legal in the Gopher State, but evidently more strictly regulated, where they’re sold in tents leading up to holidays.

Of course they won’t – at least in the current environment. That doesn’t mean however that we don’t need permanent separation from them one way or another. As for a significant % of Whites regressing to some black mean, it’s hardly likely. Although if TPTB keep up the economic pressure, all bets are off as further chaos will accelerate.

Funny that the articles won’t name the contractor companies – could be immigrant-owned businesses. They often have zero respect for the law, and why should they?
Just to keep folks updated, there’s another race war occurring in Long Beach, CA. Seems it generally started with some blacks robbing, then beating the stuffing out of a Mexican Street vendor with thief pistol butts. Beating and robbing Hispanic Street vendors has apparently been a favorite pastime amongst black youths in Long Beach.
So now Hispanics have had enough, and are randomly beating or shooting blacks. Blacks don’t like that, so they’re randomly beating and killing Hispanics. The recent “riot” at Lakewood mall was simply gangs of black kids chasing down and beating the hell out of Latino kids. About twenty blacks cornered three Hispanics in front of Macy’s, and converged on them. After a horrible session of being beaten and kicked, the Hispanics ran into the Macy’s with a now 30-something strong gang of black kids in hot pursuit. Blacks then proceeded into the mall going crazy. When they couldn’t subdue the running Hispanics, some of them wound up beating each other up. Here’s some of the narrative so far. The press won’t acknowledge the race riot at Lakewood Mall. They’re trying to memory hole it.

Currently, Hispanics have been broadcasting on Twitter and Facebook that they’re terrified to leave their homes. I don’t blame ’em. Hispanic and black areas of Long Beach has become a shooting gallery, and their highly incompetent mayor is calling for community outreach officers to stop the violence, while allowing more “black lives matter” protests in the bizarre assumption that that premise will motivate blacks and Hispanics to stop executing each other. Mexicans are attending the event waving Mexican flags next to the black lives matter signs. Their way of telling blacks at the event to go fuck themselves, it is to be presumed.
I would also opine that if you’re a minority target in a race war, it’s a good idea not to hold demonstrations yelling derogatory chants about the police, following another race war involved shooting or beating. It tends to decrease the chances of timely responses to reports of violence amongst yourselves, much less doing much detective work to solve your race war murders.

In the aggregate, they sure as hell are as useless as the buggy whip. Sure, there may be 19m @gainfully employed – hey, record black unemployment according to Donny – and how are we going to replace them? You might say the same about all the millions of illegals. I wondered how this shotspotter distinguishes gun shots from some types of fireworks, BTW. Upon trying to find out on the Shot Spotter site, the issue is kind of blown off, saying yep, you can't. but it can tell, with no explanation. Per a Chicago news story, this was a problem with it before. With the computational power of modern computers, the differences in the acoustic signatures can be determined now.

Nearby (to me) Paterson, New Jersey has Shotspotter and over the past several years it has been mentioned in the local press several times. Usually some young wannabe thug is showing off his gun and shoots in an alley or is shooting at another wannabe thug and the shots are recorded on Shotspotter. According to the stories I read, the police will show up at the exact location a short while later, sometimes even finding the shooter still standing around. One recent story mentioned that the shooter threw his gun under a set of porch steps and ran into a neighboring building. The shooter did not notice a police camera that recorded his hiding the gun and where he ran to.
As far as distinguishing between fireworks and gun shots, I once inquired on a knowledgeable and very reputable shooting forum about the ability to trick a gun shot detection system. The replies from the more knowledgeable people was that these systems are very sophisticated and are not to be tricked. (My question was could someone use ammunition loaded with blackpowder since it has a very different sound signature than smokeless powder to fool a gun shot detection system.)
Even a suppressed firearm will have that crack unless you are using subsonic ammo. But determining the position of the shooter just using the sonic crack is nearly impossible. You have to have the bang too.
I don't see why a computer program could not be set up to trigger when the bang and the crack both are heard.

Total Texas infected: 183K
Total number of deaths: 2,575
Total New Jersey infected: 172K
Total number of deaths: 15,164
Why does New Jersey have almost 6 times the death rate of Texas, even though the infection rates aren’t very far away from each other? Black population percentages in both states are quite similar.

Connecticut Death Rate: 9.2%
Texas Death Rate: 1.4%

I was reading about going back to live in Ghana last week. Out of maybe 20 people none of them were employees there. They were either retirees or had their own businesses. It seemed at best their businesses were just managing to survive.

Bulk of the early deaths (March – May), mostly in Metro NYC area, are elderly (70+). The infected in South and West are younger; hence deaths are low. However, since Covid is spread mostly asymptomatically, expect to see the young folks infect elders and death rate go up in July – September. Already, there are reports of hospitals full in some parts of Texas (and nearly full in AZ).

A good covid model will take into account the fact that aerosol transmission is more of a problem indoors than out. It will take into account that infection is more likely when the shedder is in close proximity to the victim for several minutes.
Mass protests are far from ideal settings for transmission. Indoor rallies and church services are what the virus thrives in.

Cases only spiked about 2 1/2 weeks ago. Those cases will trend young so the lag between cases and a spike in deaths will be even greater. But give it some time and deaths will start to rise again.
The video link shows the events about as they transpired at Lakewood Mall in front of Macy’s in reverse chronological order. That is, the last event in the video of the 3 or so Hispanic kids surrounded by 20 or so angry black kids is the first event/inciting incident.
The hispanic kids managed to get free, and ran for their lives into Macy’s, with the black mob in hot pursuit. The blacks running wild in the mall came afterwards. Many stores immediately lowered their security gates and called police.
Also, from what I understand, the initial attack began in front of a Target store, which is connected on the north side of the mall. Black mob attacked some hispanics, hispanics got away, so the black mob of kids travelled down to the front of Macy’s, surrounded and attacked the Hispanic guys randomly.
And finally, the reason the whole fiasco got shut down so quickly is there’s a police annex precinct adjacent to the mall, so there were a lot of officers right there to stop it. The media initially reported exactly no arrests, but it seems like one black kid was arrested in Macy’s, according to a vid I saw. There actually was very little shoplifting in all this. The black kids were interested in beating Hispanics only, it seems.
All this is what I’m reading on local angry hispanic Facebook groups, so some “facts” may vary.
Also, local media is attempting to describe this as gang conflict. I don’t agree, since old Hispanic men selling food out of a cart being randomly beaten and robbed is the issue. That doesn’t qualify as a gang matter primarily to me. Seems more of a racial “we don’t want you here” issue.

Killing each other is just a demonstrable part of black culture worldwide. The murder rate is simply going up to its natural level.

I had symptomatic corona. It was a day and a half of mild fever and some fatigue. Basically the flu but not as bad (no throwing up, high fever, chills, etc). Not 20 either.
