The further we get into the 21st century the less attention we pay to the last four decades of the 20th century, not surprisingly. What is bizarre, however, is how, due to massive minds like Ta-Nehisi Coates, we increasingly obsess over housing policy in the middle of the 20th Century, all the while memory-holing the tumultuous events that subsequently ensued when liberals got control of race policy.

For example, from Slate:

Discrimination Is Not De Facto

A new book takes issue with the prevailing view that we can’t understand what causes segregation.

By Rachel M. Cohen

… An essential new book takes square aim at these decisions and the very notion of de facto segregation itself. In The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America, Richard Rothstein of the Economic Policy Institute concludes that the court was wrong—and still is—when it described racial segregation as the product of private individual choices. …

Rothstein concludes by talking about history; specifically, how it’s taught. Looking at some of the most popular U.S. history textbooks in public schools, he highlights what little they have to say about segregation, especially in the North. This failure to teach children about their country’s history of discrimination, of redlining, of blockbusting, of income suppression leaves people comfortable to assume present inequality is the result of individual decisions and “unknown” factors, not government policy.

So, the TNC Era conventional wisdom is that the current distribution of where people live was locked in stone by FDR’s redlining, the racial covenants in contracts that were outlawed in California in the late 1940s, and so forth. In contrast, events such as the 1968 Fair Housing Act and the massive changes in where people lived in the liberal era can’t have much impact on the present because those events were more recent than the more distant past.

But that raises a number of questions, such as: how many blacks live in neighborhoods today that were black in 1948?

Consider the Los Angeles suburb of Compton of “Straight Outta Compton” gangsta rap fame.

In the late 1940s, it was nice enough that two future Presidents lived in Compton: the Bushes, father and son. Then the California supreme court banned enforcing discriminatory contractual provisions, and this conveniently located suburb close to high paying manufacturing jobs in aerospace with a superb climate shifted heavily toward blacks.

For awhile, Compton with its Bush-quality houses with yards seemed like a huge improvement for the blacks who moved in during the 1950s and 1960s.

But the next generation of young blacks of Compton became world famous for shooting each other over moronic beefs, so more responsible black parents have long been moving out. As of 2010, Compton was 65% Latino, although black politicians still run the place.

In other words, all sorts of well-known stuff has happened in Compton alone since Ta-Nehisi Coates stopped reading his history books, but we know from Rothstein and Coates that we don’t need to think about the last 70 years of Compton history because everything that has happened in Compton since then is still the fault of whites, because racism.

It’s Settled Science.

You see, when the Bushes lived in Compton, it had Magic Dirt. But they took it with them, leaving only Tragic Dirt. Now that Compton is majority Latino, however, the test scores haven’t improved all that much, but the homicide rate is way down from the N.W.A. Era, because now Compton has Boring Dirt.

Geologists study this phenomenon all the time.

It could have been worse. While their deaths are tragic, these two seem good-whitish, and almost certainly owned no firearms (the detestable things). And thank goodness! Had Dr. Field been armed, Barry Obama's beloved son, Bampumim Teixeira, may have wound up tragically dead, and we all know one murderous Negro's life is at the very least worth more than two (one and a half? –Dr. Bolanos may be mestiza...) white physicians' lives. It's all there in the New Maths, don't you know.

I feel bad for the poor prosecutor who now has to constantly speak and write the preposterous name "Bampumim Teixeira" incessantly in documents and hearings....

This failure to teach children about their country’s history of discrimination, of redlining, of blockbusting, of income suppression leaves people comfortable to assume present inequality is the result of individual decisions and “unknown” factors, not government policy.

But of course, government policy is the result of individual choices aggregated and codified through the medium of elected representatives, so this is a bogus argument.

Ultimately, all critiques of racism and racial policy come down to the classic “chicken-or-egg” question — that is, does racism exist ex nihilo as a primary artifact, or do behaviors associated with race produce racism ex post facto as a secondary consequence?

The (((Cohens))), (((Rothsteins))) et. al. automatically assume the former, and proceed to deconstruct racism as an irrational cultural artifact based on nothing more then the degree of melanin tint in one’s skin, when in fact behavior is frequently the independent variable and skin color merely a highly correlated dependent variable.

I do not want to live around blacks. Neither do I want to live around white bikers on meth committing gang rapes and engaged in gang warfare. (((Cohen))) and (((Rothstein))) conveniently ignore the fact that people quite often have damned good reasons to “discriminate.”

He's an old man (per the White Pages search, 74). He grew up in New York by his own account (perhaps outer boroughs). He's been associated with the Economic Policy Institute since about 1990. He's had institutional addresses in Washington and in the Bay Area, but I think telecommuting is common with such work nowadays. His children live in the Bay Area. White Pages puts him in Berkeley with a previous address on Cape Cod. His acknowledgements in his most recent book include the public librarian in Wellfleet, Massachusetts. Barnstable County, Massachusetts is about 2% black, has no concentrated population centers with more than 35,000 people in them, and not much in the way of housing options for the impecunious. Berkeley is about 10% black. The social data on the place suggests most are unobtrusive suburban types (with exceptions here and there).

One thing I find interesting is that none of his institutional biographies list his schooling. It's not in the publisher blurb on his most recent book either. Since he was associated with a subsidiary of UC Berkeley at one point, you'd expect it. That strongly suggests he has no applicable academic or vocational training and lacks a law degree as well. I'd be interested to know what he did for a living before the Economic Policy Institute hired him.

You know, the real problem is red-lining and such are tedious subjects. It’s not like Whitey inventing AIDS or the CIA deliberately hooking the ‘hood up with crack. I thinking that if people knew as much about this stuff as the Genius or Rothstein pretend to want them to know, their reaction would be: “Big deal.”

The aim is to land somewhere between ignorance and actual knowledge, in the Buzzphrase Zone. Textbook real estate is as important as actual, historical real estate in the never-ending war against the Phantom Menace keeping brothers down.

I'm a Bostonian but have spent some considerable amount of time living in other cities in the northeastern United States, e.g., Providence, Philadelphia, East Orange, Trenton, DC, and Ann Arbor. I've had considerable experience surviving in neighborhoods bordering on areas controlled by the Negro underclass and have learned appropriate survival skills.

Many years ago I was visiting friends who lived in Berkeley and without telling anyone I decided to walk a few miles and check out the neighborhood. I found myself going through what seemed to be a decent, middle class neighborhood; detached one family homes of various styles in reasonable sized lots and usually accompanied by a garage and one or more cars. I felt no alarm until I suddenly realized that every other porch seemed to be filled with Negroes glaring at me. The kindest expression I saw might have been interpreted to mean something like, "What the f*ck is this crazy motha-f*ckin White boy doing in our 'hood?"

I had sense enough not to speed up, do a u-turn, or show other signs of alarm but I did walk around the next block and head back, tout suite, to the main drag where I'd last seen White folks. My friends later told me that I'd been in a no-go zone in Oakland and was lucky to get out with a whole skin. But to my unenlightened east coast eyes there was nothing in the neighborhood amenities - except perhaps a lack of well-cared for lawns, gardens, and shrubbery - to suggest I was passing into a Negro slum. California really is that different.

  6. Jews and Blacks are getting boring. White Core Americans have had enough of the nonsense from Jews and Blacks. Housing costs in many parts of the United States are inhibiting AFFORDABLE FAMILY FORMATION, and we have to listen to Jews and Blacks attack Whites without end.

Mass immigration increases housing costs. The Federal Reserve Bank’s ultra-low interest rates have re-inflated the housing bubble. Janet Yellen is a bullshit artist who said the Fed would begin “normalizing” interest rates. If 6 percent is the “normal” federal funds rate, when will that occur? NEVER DAMMIT!

In 1981 the federal funds rate was at 22 percent. 4 percent would be enough to implode the current real estate bubble.

  11. No kidding – TNC’s hometown has neighborhoods like Bolton Hill that have large rowhouses that were built for the merchant class near a major amenity like Druid Hill Park over 150 years ago (and would cost 4 times as much in DC) but now are run down high-crime slums. The epicenter of the Baltimore riots a few years ago are just a short distance away from this formerly high-status neighborhood. The only thing that changed was the type of person that lived there…DC figured this out years ago and acted accordingly.

Local conspiracists refer to it at “The Plan”, which is allegedly a plot to displace blacks from desirable areas and move them out to PG county…it seemingly has a major flaw in that DC has been run by black politicians for 40 years who until the early 2000s were pretty vocal in their hostility to whites, but on the other hand the demographic changes in the region are undeniable.

Yeah, the federal government employee compensation and benefits package continues to go up and up and up. Meanwhile the private sector languishes under the burden--and cost--of the mischief those federal gov't employee are up to...

If memory serves, federal gov't spending first exceeded $2 trillion in 2002--and doubled to $4 trillion in 2016 (based on presidential budget submissions--final numbers would be somewhat, though trivially, different). meanwhile the economy over the same period only grew by 69%--meaning gov't spending grew by 45% more than did the economy.

Is it any wonder the DC metro area contains the bulk of the wealthiest counties?

  14. Druid Hill, if I’m remembering correctly, had beautiful pre-war buildings that lined the Reservoir, that contained large airy family apartments.

I think first whites, then Jewish bourgeoisie types lived there, then middle class blacks and then the ghetto that exists today.

To your later point, while DC had a more radical black class with recent roots in the South, it still maintained a strong contingent of talented tenth types. They often swayed elections from their base in Ward 4. They handed Sharon Pratt a victory in the early 90s and later Anthony Williams who began the transformation of DC.

We finally know which judges will hear Hawaii v Trump. All three are Clinton appointees. So I now think Trump loses. His arguments are strong enough, and the liberals have an incentive to not have the case go to the Supreme Court, so I’d still give us a 15% chance of winning. Gould and Hawkins tend to be deferential to the government, a factor in Trump’s favor.

    They are:

Ronald Gould, a long-time Seattle corporate lawyer and Eagle Scout who clerked for Potter Stewart, an Ike-appointed center-right justice. If it were Gould and a conservative, we’d have a decent chance. He is probably still Trump’s best bet.

Richard Paez, a Mormon from Los Angeles and BYU grad who Jeff Sessions tried to block from confirmation, and was able to delay for several years. He ended up getting through due to the efforts of Mormon Republican senators. He is a reliable liberal and voted to strike down most of Arizona’s local immigration enforcement law SB 1070, a decision affirmed by the Supreme Court.

Michael Daly Hawkins, from Winslow Arizona, had a career as a Marine JAG and country lawyer at first, then a Phoenix corporate lawyer. He is one of the less liberal Democrats, but still generally a reliable vote for them.

  20. When someone talks to me about the evil of 1940s redlining, I point out that in Detroit today, thanks to, um, demographic change, blacks can outright buy a house for what would have been a downpayment in the 1940s (adjusted for inflation of course).

  21. This failure to teach children about their country’s history of discrimination, of redlining, of blockbusting, of income suppression leaves people comfortable to assume present inequality is the result of individual decisions and “unknown” factors, not government policy.

One thing that always takes me aback a bit is the willingness of writers and “intellectuals” to put their names on *obvious* crap. I’ve taken more than a few flyers and gotten a ton of stuff wrong in my life. But i won’t slap my name on stuff i know is nonsense.

Whatever you want to say about sleazy real estate agents and their nefarious schemes–all true!–“blockbusting” is not any kind of government policy and it can not work except for the fact that *individual* whites do not want to live in black neighborhoods.

And whites (generally) do not want to live in black neighborhoods not because of anything the government told them, but because of the *actual behavior* of blacks. Whites–the damn racists!–do not like getting mugged. They do not like being accosted and harassed. The don’t like to hear gun shots or live around crime. They like to have the surrounding property kept up. They like peace and quiet. They do not want to hear thump and bump music at 3 a.m when they are trying to sleep and have to wake up at 6:30 to get to work. They want to send their kids to the park without them being beat up or harassed, or finding the playground full of teenagers hanging out and/or doing or selling drugs. And more generally, whites–like pretty much everyone in human history–prefers to live around their own kind, with people who speak their language, dress the same way, practice the same religion, celebrate the same holidays and ergo are people who at least they have a shot at being able to establish some rapport and maybe trust. I.e. whites generally want to live in a white neighborhood with white mores.

And one of the issues here, is even if the blacks who move into your middle class neighborhood are the nicest middle class folks who themselves live according to white middle class norms … they’ll have relatives who are regressed toward the black mean. And almost inevitably at some point some of them will come to live or hang around. Likewise while the black parents may be middle class in outlook, their children will tend to be regressed toward the black mean and are more likely to exhibit more stereotypically black behavior. And if they don’t their black friends certainly will.

Not claiming everyone’s going to agree with every word of this analysis. But anyone claiming that whites flee from blacks primarily because of some ancient nefarious “policy” from on high, rather than precisely on their own *individual* decisions not to live around (lots of) blacks based on their lived experienced with black behavior (or that of friends and neighbors) is just lying.

Richard Rothstein is lying. Rachel Cohen is lying. And they are either the dumbest, most clueless writers on housing ever, or they are *knowingly lying*.

The FHA was formed in 1934. Twenty years before that whites in Baltimore demanded that the city implement segregated areas. Blacks & whites had lived in intergrated areas in the past but the migration of blacks from the rural south upsetted matters. Their ways were simply too backwards and crime & crowded housing followed. People back then fled for many of the reasons you cite that they flee from today. There's a good write up of the run up to the debate floating around the Internet. One elderly white woman is exasperated at constantly having to move and wonders if she'll be tormented to the end of her days. A pastor acknowledged the distastorous impact blacks have on property values and that to maintain solvency these restrictions must regrettably put in place. There were even accounts from black middle class sympathetic to the arguments of wires and that they too want to flee but that it shouldn't be race based. This all occurred in 1910 or so.

Baltimore politicians acquiesced to the demands of whites, ironically over the objection of landlords and implemented segregated zones. The Supreme Court later tossed the law out. The FHA didn't just implement redlining on a whim. They had decades of data to work upon.

I could not agree more. This truism is exactly why vanishingly rare instances of unjustified violence and oppression by the ten per cent (and rapidly declining) of the population who are white against the remainder of the world's peoples is of no consequence when compared to the reverse, since the overwhelmingly more numerous and beastly so-called persons of colour, backed by the full force of governments throughout the world, continue to incessantly displace, assault, murder, rob, rape, maraud, invade, demean, and otherwise oppress whites every second of every day and in every part of the world.

I am glad you finally understand the problem from the proper perspective, Tiny Duck; we are all of us proud of your insight.

I can't blame blacks for not wanting to live in black neighborhoods. But who segregated those neighborhoods? Seems to me that blacks should have just stopped moving into a neighborhood after they became 15% or so.

The only way to have 'desegregated' neighborhoods is an Oak Park type of neighborhood where there is a 'deep neighborhood' that runs stuff.

Anyway, its too late because there aren't enough Whites to go around. Especially if you count Latino as a race. Plus Asian. It never seems to be a problem for them to live in their own racially segregated area. If they are allowed.

    Deep Neighborhood.

Yeah, I think a lot of people assume when I talk about Oak Park’s black-a-block quote that I’m just making up a conspiracy theory, but no, I read it in Newsweek or Time back in the 1980s, and I’ve since tracked down one detailed academic paper on it. It real and it’s real interesting, so nobody is interested in it.

One thing that always takes me aback a bit is the willingness of writers and "intellectuals" to put their names on *obvious* crap. I've taken more than a few flyers and gotten a ton of stuff wrong in my life. But i won't slap my name on stuff i know is nonsense.

Whatever you want to say about sleazy real estate agents and their nefarious schemes--all true!--"blockbusting" is not any kind of government policy and it can not work except for the fact that *individual* whites do not want to live in black neighborhoods.

And whites (generally) do not want to live in black neighborhoods not because of anything the government told them, but because of the *actual behavior* of blacks. Whites--the damn racists!--do not like getting mugged. They do not like being accosted and harassed. The don't like to hear gun shots or live around crime. And more generally, whites--like pretty much everyone in human history--prefers to live around their own kind, with people who speak their language, dress the same way, practice the same religion, celebrate the same holidays and ergo are people who at least they have a shot at being able to establish some rapport and maybe trust. I.e. whites generally want to live in a white neighborhood with white mores.

And one of the issues here, is even if the blacks who move into your middle class neighborhood are the nicest middle class folks who themselves live according to white middle class norms ... they'll have relatives who are regressed toward the black mean. And almost inevitably at some point some of them will come to live or hang around. Likewise while the black parents may be middle class in outlook, their children will tend to be regressed toward the black mean and are more likely to exhibit more stereotypically black behavior. And if they don't their black friends certainly will.

Not claiming everyone's going to agree with every word of this analysis. But anyone claiming that whites flee from blacks primarily because of some ancient nefarious "policy" from on high, rather than precisely on their own *individual* decisions not to live around (lots of) blacks based on their lived experienced with black behavior (or that of friends and neighbors) is just lying.

There’s a good write up of the run up to the debate floating around the Internet. One elderly white woman is exasperated at constantly having to move and wonders if she’ll be tormented to the end of her days. A pastor acknowledged the distastorous impact blacks have on property values and that to maintain solvency these restrictions must regrettably put in place. There were even accounts from black middle class sympathetic to the arguments of wires and that they too want to flee but that it shouldn’t be race based. This all occurred in 1910 or so.

Baltimore politicians acquiesced to the demands of whites, ironically over the objection of landlords and implemented segregated zones. The Supreme Court later tossed the law out. The FHA didn’t just implement redlining on a whim. They had decades of data to work upon.

It's the same deal with immigration policy. Many pro-immigrant commentators and organizations never acknowledge how we've brought in tens of millions of immigrants since 1965. Yeah, the federal government employee compensation and benefits package continues to go up and up and up. Meanwhile the private sector languishes under the burden–and cost–of the mischief those federal gov’t employee are up to…

If memory serves, federal gov’t spending first exceeded $2 trillion in 2002–and doubled to $4 trillion in 2016 (based on presidential budget submissions–final numbers would be somewhat, though trivially, different). meanwhile the economy over the same period only grew by 69%–meaning gov’t spending grew by 45% more than did the economy.

We finally know which judges will hear Hawaii v Trump. All three are Clinton appointees. So I now think Trump loses. His arguments are strong enough, and the liberals have an incentive to not have the case go to the Supreme Court, so I'd still give us a 15% chance of winning. Gould and Hawkins tend to be deferential to the government, a factor in Trump's favor.

    They are:

Ronald Gould, a long-time Seattle corporate lawyer and Eagle Scout who clerked for Potter Stewart, an Ike-appointed center-right justice. If it were Gould and a conservative, we'd have a decent chance. He is probably still Trump's best bet.

Richard Paez, a Mormon from Los Angeles and BYU grad who Jeff Sessions tried to block from confirmation, and was able to delay for several years. He ended up getting through due to the efforts of Mormon Republican senators. He is a reliable liberal and voted to strike down most of Arizona's local immigration enforcement law SB 1070, a decision affirmed by the Supreme Court.

Michael Daly Hawkins, from Winslow Arizona, had a career as a Marine JAG and country lawyer at first, then a Phoenix corporate lawyer. He is one of the less liberal Democrats, but still generally a reliable vote for them.

  40. Anon • Disclaimer says:

One can make a case for government policies. Sure, they matter, and sure, they slighted blacks before the Civil Rights Era.

But black pathology goes deeper. In a way, it’s not a pathology in a different cultural setting.

Black behavior would be appropriate in primitive existence in Africa with spears and arrows and hippos and lions and crocs, and etc. Blacks evolved personalities and traits suited to that kind of life.

But it is often pathological in modern society where one needs long-term view of things, self-restraint, empathy, and trust.

Black pathology in the Modern West is the result of four factors: Blacks are tougher + Blacks are more aggressive + Blacks are less intelligent + Blacks are sacred due to PC and cult of ‘white guilt’.

Blacks know they are tougher. And being more aggressive, they tend to think less about their behavior. Also, as their culture is based on hunter-warrior mentality, they feel contempt for the ‘weak’. This is why blacks who act ‘white’ get whupped often. These ‘white-ish’ blacks prefer nicer whites than blacks. But they feel ashamed to prefer white over black, so they cook up some ‘rage of black middle class’ BS to assuage their confusion. That is The Nasty Coates.
Blacks being less intelligent achieve less in schools. Being stronger and more aggressive, they make trouble for other races.

Now, if there was no PC sacramentalism about blacks, we could at least honestly address these problems. But we can’t be honest about black problems since the cult of ‘white guilt’ blames all black problems on slavery and Jimmy Crow. So, even the most loutish blacks are filled with sanctimony about how they is the suffering-slave-MLK-folks. So, we have moron movements like BLM. And since blacks tend to be egomaniacal, they are incapable of seeing how blind they are. Proof of black egomania? They fight most among each other because each Negro and each Negress think he or she be the center of the universe. Dindu Nuffin and We Wuz Kangz.

Btw, Cohen’s argument that blacks need to integrate with others is just another variation of LTGTR, or ‘let the good times roll’. But she gets away with it by slipping it between her baloney. After all, why would blacks need to be with non-blacks to do better?
It is because black nature tends toward LTGTR. So, when blacks are among themselves, LTGTR reaches critical mass and blacks turn things into something like Ferguson or Baltimore. So, blacks need the guidance and examples of OTHERS so that LTGTR won’t reach critical mass.

I mean whites do okay on their own. Asians do okay on their own. Even Mexicans are much saner on their own than blacks are. But when blacks are among themselves, LTGTR goes radioactive and the community often melts down.

Anyway, there is no federal law preventing Jews from integrating with blacks. So, Jews should lead the way in this. And since East Asians in US tend to be Democratic, we should urge them to integrate with blacks, not with whites. Better yet, their kind should opt for ‘progressive’ immigration and move to black Africa. Lots of vibrant wonderful ‘diversity’ there.

So, Liberal Jews and East Asians, lead the way. Practice what you preach. Go to black areas and integrate please. And if your actions lead to a miracle, we will follow too.

PS. We live in schizopolis. On the one hand, we say blacks need to integrate with whites because white cultural influence will have a beneficial effect on them. So, white is good, right? But then, PC says whiteness sucks and Pop Culture says whites should go ghetto with rap culture, hip hop, and jungalo fever.

So, blacks need to get away from blackness and emulate whiteness but whiteness must imitate blackness. One big circle jerk.

  44. I grew up in an inner-ring suburb of Minneapolis, MN. It was lily-white and one of the better suburbs in the area. The only thing separating us from the ghetto in North Minneapolis (Rep. Keith Ellison’s district, BTW) was the Mississippi river. I really didn’t dislike black people at the time, because I really didn’t have any interaction with them.

In the 1980’s, the city approved low-income housing in the neighborhood where I lived. Within a year or two it was filled with people from North Minneapolis, most of whom came from Chicago and Gary, Indiana. Other than my girlfriend and me, the only other white people left on the block were the bikers in the duplex behind us (compatriots, and we scared the SHIT out of the black people).

The black mothers (and they were, of course, all mothers, no fathers) figured that they were “movin’ on up” and getting their kids out of the ghetto. Unfortunately, they brought their little thugs with them and just recreated the ghetto. The alley behind my apartment was known as “crack alley”, there were 8-year-old kids running around naked and unsupervised (moms just kicked them out of the house every morning so as to not have to deal with them), the crime report in the local paper went from a few paragraphs to a whole page. I made sure that I was never more than 10 feet away from a 12-gauge shotgun.

Eventually, our landlord came up to me and told me that he’d let us out of our lease early because we “really didn’t belong” in that neighborhood. It wasn’t any sense of altruism on his part. He was a sleazebag who found it easier to collect rent checks from the government than from actual working stiffs like me. Of course, I took him up on the offer.

I now live in a suburb 20 miles north of that town. Every time that I drive through it, I thank God that I didn’t buy a house there. It is an absolute dump. It is dirty, crowded, run down, filled with shitty little stores and the high school is filled with Somalis who attack white kids and scream “racism!” if they fight back. It is absolutely depressing and I try to avoid it when I can.

They say that racism is a learned behavior. “They” are absolutely right. I had no ill will towards the black culture until I had to live with it. I didn’t learn this in my childhood, as the Leftists would like to think. I learned this in my 20’s when my childhood town was invaded by moronic savages.

I know plenty of black people who I get along with just fine. But they’re the ones who don’t feel entitled to anything and don’t blame Whitey for all of their bad decisions.

In other words, it isn’t the color of their skin that I hate. It’s the culture that the vast majority of them embrace.

@46 Warmongerel: "In other words, it isn’t the color of their skin that I hate. It’s the culture that the vast majority of them embrace."

In other words, it's race. The color of their skin is merely a convenient, outward manifestation on which to determine, in general, their genotype, which is usually Negroid and sub-Saharan African. Their DNA determines their culture. As blogger Chateau Heartiste put it succinctly:

"The cultures that arise from the gene source pools aren’t random configurations; cultures affirm, coalesce, and amplify the genetic traits of the people who populate them. So there’s no way to draw a red line between race and culture; the latter would be a phantasm without the former. The Alt-Right is right about this."

    In short, DNA MATTERS.

A boyhood friend of mine had a concrete bomb shelter in his back garden. You might think that was daft since we lived far from the cities. In fact, the nearest bomb was dropped only about 8 miles away, killing a couple of dozen people.

We all have some type of similar memories, Donut. Mine is of a sleepy dirt road/country lane in the copper red dirt of middle-west Tennessee, my grandparents' 40-acre farm and the smell of corn, soybeans and cotton growing in the summer, with the lowing of the cattle mixed in. Waking up to the sun rising over the misty fields full of things growing; taking my fishing pole down to the creek between my grandfather's house and my great uncle's house (they both jointly owned the 40 acres) on a hot, humid summer day; walking to my great uncle's house and my great aunt pouring me a big ol' glass of sweet tea over ice to go with a fried baloney sandwich. Walking back to Nanna and Granddad's house before the thunderstorms moved in from the west, and the smell of the rain on the dirt after they passed. My mom and aunt sold the farm when granddad passed, so its not there anymore, but I have the memories with me until I pass to the Great Beyond.

The buildings that house the agencies could be moved to Prince George county. win win. They get their jobs and pay less for housing and commuting. Whites get DC the way they want it.

  52. @Anon
One can make a case for government policies. Sure, they matter, and sure, they slighted blacks before the Civil Rights Era.

But black pathology goes deeper. In a way, it's not a pathology in a different cultural setting.

Black pathology in the Modern West is the result of four factors: Blacks are tougher + Blacks are more aggressive + Blacks are less intelligent + Blacks are sacred due to PC and cult of 'white guilt'.

Blacks know they are tougher. And being more aggressive, they tend to think less about their behavior. Also, as their culture is based on hunter-warrior mentality, they feel contempt for the 'weak'. This is why blacks who act 'white' get whupped often. These 'white-ish' blacks prefer nicer whites than blacks. But they feel ashamed to prefer white over black, so they cook up some 'rage of black middle class' BS to assuage their confusion. That is The Nasty Coates.
Blacks being less intelligent achieve less in schools. Being stronger and more aggressive, they make trouble for other races.

Now, if there was no PC sacramentalism about blacks, we could at least honestly address these problems. But we can't be honest about black problems since the cult of 'white guilt' blames all black problems on slavery and Jimmy Crow.

Btw, Cohen's argument that blacks need to integrate with others is just another variation of LTGTR, or 'let the good times roll'.
So, blacks need the guidance and examples of OTHERS so that LTGTR won't reach critical mass.

Better yet, their kind should opt for 'progressive' immigration and move to black Africa. Lots of vibrant wonderful 'diversity' there.

    Replies: @Joe Schmoe

I don’t see blacks a being tougher. More aggressive, but not tougher. Whites are mighty tough. Not the snowflakes, but lots of others. Whites might even be tougher.

He’s an old man (per the White Pages search, 74). He grew up in New York by his own account (perhaps outer boroughs). He’s been associated with the Economic Policy Institute since about 1990. He’s had institutional addresses in Washington and in the Bay Area, but I think telecommuting is common with such work nowadays.

It’s not in the publisher blurb on his most recent book either. Since he was associated with a subsidiary of UC Berkeley at one point, you’d expect it. That strongly suggests he has no applicable academic or vocational training and lacks a law degree as well. I’d be interested to know what he did for a living before the Economic Policy Institute hired him.

I grew up in an inner-ring suburb of Minneapolis, MN. It was lily-white and one of the better suburbs in the area. The only thing separating us from the ghetto in North Minneapolis (Rep. Keith Ellison's district, BTW) was the Mississippi river. I really didn't dislike black people at the time, because I really didn't have any interaction with them.

In the 1980's, the city approved low-income housing in the neighborhood where I lived. Within a year or two it was filled with people from North Minneapolis, most of whom came from Chicago and Gary, Indiana. Other than my girlfriend and me, the only other white people left on the block were the bikers in the duplex behind us (compatriots, and we scared the SHIT out of the black people).

The black mothers (and they were, of course, all mothers, no fathers) figured that they were "movin' on up" and getting their kids out of the ghetto. Unfortunately, they brought their little thugs with them and just recreated the ghetto. The alley behind my apartment was known as "crack alley", there were 8-year-old kids running around naked and unsupervised (moms just kicked them out of the house every morning so as to not have to deal with them), the crime report in the local paper went from a few paragraphs to a whole page. I made sure that I was never more than 10 feet away from a 12-gauge shotgun.

Eventually, our landlord came up to me and told me that he'd let us out of our lease early because we "really didn't belong" in that neighborhood. It wasn't any sense of altruism on his part. He was a sleazebag who found it easier to collect rent checks from the government than from actual working stiffs like me. Of course, I took him up on the offer.

I now live in a suburb 20 miles north of that town. Every time that I drive through it, I thank God that I didn't buy a house there. It is an absolute dump. It is dirty, crowded, run down, filled with shitty little stores and the high school is filled with Somalis who attack white kids and scream "racism!" if they fight back. It is absolutely depressing and I try to avoid it when I can.

They say that racism is a learned behavior. "They" are absolutely right. I had no ill will towards the black culture until I had to live with it. I didn't learn this in my childhood, as the Leftists would like to think. I learned this in my 20's when my childhood town was invaded by moronic savages.

I know plenty of black people who I get along with just fine. But they're the ones who don't feel entitled to anything and don't blame Whitey for all of their bad decisions.

In other words, it isn't the color of their skin that I hate. It's the culture that the vast majority of them embrace.

    Replies: @3g4me

@46 Warmongerel: “In other words, it isn’t the color of their skin that I hate. It’s the culture that the vast majority of them embrace.”

In other words, it’s race. The color of their skin is merely a convenient, outward manifestation on which to determine, in general, their genotype, which is usually Negroid and sub-Saharan African. Their DNA determines their culture. As blogger Chateau Heartiste put it succinctly:

“The cultures that arise from the gene source pools aren’t random configurations; cultures affirm, coalesce, and amplify the genetic traits of the people who populate them. So there’s no way to draw a red line between race and culture; the latter would be a phantasm without the former. The Alt-Right is right about this.”

    In short, DNA MATTERS.

This failure to teach children about their country’s history of discrimination, of redlining, of blockbusting, of income suppression leaves people comfortable to assume present inequality is the result of individual decisions and “unknown” factors, not government policy.

Richard Rothstein is lying. Rachel Cohen is lying. And they are either the dumbest, most clueless writers on housing ever, or they are *knowingly lying*.

RECONSIDERING THE OAK PARK STRATEGY: THE CONUNDRUMS OF INTEGRATION

    Evan McKenzie and Jay Ruby

    ABSTRACT
The civil rights movement succeeded in making great strides in the workplace and opening up educational opportunities, but failed when it came to housing. A glance at the 2000 census reveals that while the United States is becoming increasingly diverse, it remains as segregated as ever. Most attempts to constructively and deliberately integrate resulted in resegregation. This article critically examines an exception – the Chicago suburb of Oak Park. Thirty years ago the community made a conscious decision to welcome African Americans into a place that was virtually one hundred percent white. Thought time they developed policies, programs, and institutions designed to maintain integration so that blacks would feel welcome and white would not flee. Data generated by long term research by a political scientist and an ethnographer are employed to explore two questions: how does the “Oak Park strategy” work and could other communities use these tactics?

Yeah, I saw that. What gives? A west African with a Portuguese surname?

The killer of the two doctors in Massachusetts. His name is Bampumim Teixeira. He was born in Africa which accounts for his first name. He immigrated to Cape Verde Islands to live w his aunt which is how he ends up with the Portuguese last name. BT and his aunt then immigrated to America some years ago.

Teixeira told his ex-girlfriend that he was “born in Guinea-Bissau and raised in Cape Verde by an aunt, with whom he moved to the Boston area when he was in his 20s… After a falling out with the aunt, he lived in shelters,” The Boston Globe reported.

He robbed two Massachusetts banks without a weapon. The bleeding heart judge, Obama appointee Lisa Grant, sentenced him to 364 days in prison. She received papers giving him 365 days but altered it to 364 so that he would not be seized by ICE and deported after getting out of prison. It takes a year in prison for ICE to do this.

So this (expletive deleted) is not an American citizen. He’s here on a green card after immigrating here less than ten years ago from Cape Verde via Guinea-Bissau. He didn’t get along with his aunt so he …

I am at an utter loss for words. Justice absolutely has not been served. Bampumim Teixeira was handed a 364-day sentence, by Judge Lisa Grant, in his hospital room for the murders of two engaged

Cape Verde and Sao Tome are lusophone territories with a considerable mulatto population, more like Latin American colonies than African ones.

Not weird at all, Boston has been the main destination of migration from Cape Verde, a former Portuguese colony, for about 120 years. The killer is from Guinea-Bisseu but spent time in Cape Verde before coming to the USA to live with a relative.

Thanks Clyde, Ed and Art Deco; that’s why I come to Steve’s intellectual watering hole, to learn new things and fill in the void of my ignorance…

OT: Here's a "Get Out" related story that could be part of a series.

How about a Get Out tag that highlights all these black male home invasion/White people massacres.

    Here's a partial one:

Richard Field and Lina Bolanos murder 5/9/2017 Boston, MA *Bampumim Teixeira charged with their murders*

    Look familiar?

It could have been worse. While their deaths are tragic, these two seem good-whitish, and almost certainly owned no firearms (the detestable things). And thank goodness! Had Dr. Field been armed, Barry Obama’s beloved son, Bampumim Teixeira, may have wound up tragically dead, and we all know one murderous Negro’s life is at the very least worth more than two (one and a half? –Dr. Bolanos may be mestiza…) white physicians’ lives. It’s all there in the New Maths, don’t you know.

I feel bad for the poor prosecutor who now has to constantly speak and write the preposterous name “Bampumim Teixeira” incessantly in documents and hearings….

Isolated instances, albeit tragic are of no consequence when compared to systemic oppression and brutality.

Your flippancy and racism is not needed and only leads to more violence and tragedy.

Isolated instances, albeit tragic[,] are of no consequence when compared to systemic oppression and brutality.

I could not agree more. This truism is exactly why vanishingly rare instances of unjustified violence and oppression by the ten per cent (and rapidly declining) of the population who are white against the remainder of the world’s peoples is of no consequence when compared to the reverse, since the overwhelmingly more numerous and beastly so-called persons of colour, backed by the full force of governments throughout the world, continue to incessantly displace, assault, murder, rob, rape, maraud, invade, demean, and otherwise oppress whites every second of every day and in every part of the world.

I am glad you finally understand the problem from the proper perspective, Tiny Duck; we are all of us proud of your insight.
