From the Washington Post:

The Power of Stacey Abrams
Despite losing the Georgia governor’s race in 2018, she has moved quickly to political prominence. Will she be the vice presidential pick for Democrats?

By Kevin Powell, MAY 14, 2020

There is a big buzz at the Loudermilk Conference Center in downtown Atlanta as a gathering called Paradigm Shift 2.0: Black Women Confronting HIV, Health and Social Justice

Damn, I missed it.

gets underway.

Three hundred registered participants have journeyed from across the country to discuss the many challenges and possibilities facing black women and girls. The second day’s morning keynote was delivered by radical activist and professor Angela Davis. The hype has been building exponentially for lunchtime guest speaker Stacey Abrams.

When she is finally introduced the women shout and leap to their feet. Young women stand on chairs, camera phones flash. Abrams, who appears both amused and slightly disturbed by the fuss over her, takes control of the chaotic scene. I’ve witnessed this level of affection for very few political leaders in the Democratic circles I’ve been in since the 1980s. They have the last names Clinton (both Hillary and Bill), Sanders, Warren, Jackson and Obama (both Michelle and Barack).

“I’m going to make sure there is peace in this room,” Abrams says. “Y’all are about to annoy each other with these cameras, so I’m going to stand up and I’m going to stand in front of each group of you. Take pictures so you can put your camera down.”

Pandemonium ensues as she walks to the far left of the stage, like a runway supermodel, stops on a dime, poses, tilts her head slightly and smiles. Camera flashes explode. She next pivots and walks slowly to the center of the stage, freezes there and repeats the pose. Again, the flashes explode. Abrams is summoning her inner actress, and she is both enjoying the moment and getting through it to get to the conversation. She then pivots and walks to the far right of the stage, same. You wonder whether she has done this before, because it is not necessarily what one would expect from a 46-year-old politician who was nearly elected the first black female governor in U.S. history. She lost by fewer than 2 percentage points in the 2018 Georgia race riddled with allegations of voter suppression. Before that, she was a state legislator who had served as a leader in the Georgia General Assembly for a decade. Now her name is on political pundits’ shortlists of potential running mates for Joe Biden. She also happens to have predicted that she’ll be elected president by 2040.

Just as quickly Abrams leaves the runway and returns to politics. Taking her seat with the moderator, she dives into why she is here and why she believes the leadership of women matters. “We live in a time where we have purported leaders who claim to speak for us but do not know us, and in that ignorance, they make decisions that are designed not for our success but for our demise,” she says. “So my deep suspicion is that some people are lying when they say they care about us.”

The balloon of silence in the meeting room is punctured, time and again, by “Amen” and “Preach” and “You go, girl.”

… She’s wearing her now-familiar look of twisted natural hair, short dangling earrings, a solid colored jacket and dark blouse and slacks.

Either Joe Biden has been photographed (over his immensely long career of having his picture taken) touching a black female’s hair. Or he has not. Either way …

Both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump were (and still are) a bit on the plump side for presidential candidates, but both of them are older and both dressed to cover it up. Hillary dressed very strangely, and Trump’s boxy suits cover his paunch. The norm, except when a candidate is elderly or suffered wounds in war, is for a reasonable level of physical fitness. Obama seems kind of weak, but he was trim. Bush and Gore were both fit. Kerry was strange looking, but again, reasonably fit. Biden looks terribly now, but he swims and exercises. For a man his age, he’s in good physical shape, though he’s obviously losing it mentally.

Stacey Abrams, if selected, would be the first Person of Size to be a major party nominee since Taft. I’m wondering if being obese would make her more sympathetic, kind of like Oprah, whose struggles with her own weight made women like her. Or whether people would be repulsed by her.

Also wondering — lots of whites have had issues with pushy, bossy, entitled, hectoring black Women of Size. You can see Stacey Abrams as a head of HR or a diversicrat, and you know you’d hate her and find her impossible to deal with. Will she only be off-putting to white guys — or will she also be off-putting to white women? Or even black men?

Not to be ungracious for the WSJ delivering some red-pilling stats, but Mr. Baker is a former elected Labour politician in the UK turned neoconservative who has come to lecture Yanks on race relations. And thus articles like this are really there to inb4 the bad news FBI stats while making sure the “basics” are reaffirmed:

We don’t yet know the full facts behind either of these killings. Mr. Arbery’s certainly looked ugly, and whatever his killers and some neighbors allege he may have been doing on that street on a sunny afternoon, he clearly did not deserve to be gunned down. We will learn no doubt soon whether his killers did indeed have racist motives.

Some will say that’s as it should be. Mr. Arbery’s killing is simply more representative [than the killing of a white couple at their son’s grave] of the nature of race relations in America.

In a larger sense, some will say, the much greater attention given to white attacks on blacks is justified because of the nature of socioeconomic relations between the races. Certainly, given the nation’s history and continuing social inequalities, a heightened sensitivity should be accorded evidence of racist violence by white people.

If you accept all the basic premises of your enemy, you always lose. That’s the purpose of the WSJ editorial section: to lose elegantly, getting in a few powder puff punches as you go down on the mat.

  33. There are several psychological tics (best word I could think of) at work here with liberals:

    1. The warm and fuzzy feeling everybody gets when the retarded kid at the end of the bench, really the mascot, gets to sink an uncontested basket at the end of a blowout game. Awwww… The feels.

    2. The fact that liberals are so conditioned to lie to themselves about everything – “It’s a nice neighborhood with good schools, it has nothing to do with race” – that when they see something grotesque, they reflexively lie: “Isn’t she just awesome! Beautiful!” Sure. It’s a bit like people pretending to admire much of “modern” art.

    3. Finally, they know pushing this stuff will draw out people to make unkind comments about her appearance or intelligence which will immediately cause the person making those comments to have their life ruined. It’s the proverbial cape to the bull. Liberals relish doing this, and it’s an effective technique to decimate your political adversaries. Criticize her? That’s waycisssss!

But if he does pick her and she happens to be a lesbian that would be an intersectional trifeecta for the party of the people. Black, lesbian, and a woman it would only get better if she was transgendered. Of course that doesn’t mean she would help Sleepy Joe win. But she would provide perfect cover for a loss. They could point to her rejection by the unwashed masses as proof positive of the country’s structural racism, sexism, homophobia, and any other phobia they can dream up.

As an American I always viewed it as a defect. Apparently it is a British thing.

“Women with gappy teeth are the stuff of wayward, nouvelle vague film fantasies; the sort of girls who could get a nice, sensible man into serious trouble. A girl with what the French call les dents de la chance (lucky teeth) will be insolent, passionate, promiscuous and mischievous. In turns, delirious and tempestuous, lush, divine and impossible — like Beatrice Dalle in Betty Blue.”

“Madonna, Vanessa Paradis, Brigitte Bardot and Jane Birkin should never surrender to the train-track or Invisalign. Yes, gap-toothed models such as Lauren Hutton, Lara Stone and Georgia May Jagger have all been tempted, but wisely, not yet succumbed.”

    This is a good question.

My gut (sorry) instinct is that it would not hurt her chances, and might even enhance them.

I was in high school when Oprah’s talk show burst into American pop culture. I recall many of the girls in my class (all white small-town midwesterners) being utterly besotted with Oprah. These girls were middle to upper-middle in intelligence and amibition; almost all have ended up with BAs and above. Something in the big sassy black female archetype that Oprah embodied so fully appealed to them on a very deep level.

These girls are of course all middle-aged women now, and many are politically outspoken, leaning left. They still seem extremely eager to demonstrate their antiracist bona fides. They will be reliable voters — and proselytizers — for Stacy.

Apparently small town Midwesterners changed a lot in about 10-15 years. Kids like that in Davenport IA ’69 to ’72 would all be from the old high school on the other side of town with a disproportionate number of Black kids and preppy White kids, with the exception of a few outliers in my school, and the few kids from nearby small towns who came in by bus to my school would not be among those outliers, with possibly an exception or two. Same thing, more or less, at Iowa State ’72 to’76, with the University of Iowa standing in Davenport Central and Iowa State for Davenport West.

Now I don’t doubt that a fair number may have adopted those views later in life, and not all that much later. And we weren’t a bunch of rednecks, although we had a few. And I understand that it’s the girls you’re talking about, but can’t see that attitude being common among them in that era.

    Condoleeza?

You know, it’s funny. Gay men are more feminine, which also tends to make you more liberal these days, and given the culture war they find enthusiastic homes on the left–you have the occasional Dave Rubin type who leans libertarian when their other instincts drag them right.

Lesbians are more masculine, but the culture war being what it is they tend to almost entirely cluster on the left. (Not to mention there are lots and lots of dorky guys on the right who would really, really love to find a woman into guns/computers/scifi.) You’ve got your occasional Camille Paglia or Florence King type. Norah Vincent impersonated a man for a year or so and actually found herself developing sympathy toward us. I think Condoleeza was just an unfortunate woman who leaned right, got a huge dose of masculine genes, and actually used them in a productive fashion, but given the situation of the times couldn’t just find some Mary Cheney to shack up with.

OK, OK, maybe she has already been nominated, but what do iSteve readers think of Ms. Abrams as the iSteve Man-of-the-year?

Was anyone even nominated let alone confirmed in this role since 2015 and Ur-beta-immigration-fraud-fake-spouse-incel-and-straw-gun-buyer-America-Ferrera-look-alike Enrique Marquez, Jr. was awarded the honor?

I know the award for man of the year, but please iSteve don’t change this to the politically correct Person of the Year because your iSteve following is intelligent enough to know that “man” can generically mean either a man or a woman, and no offense to women, there is something effeminate about Mr. Marquez, and no offense to the men around here, there is something manly about Ms. Abrams (not that there is anything wrong with that!).

Since Mr. Marquez’ 15 minutes, there hasn’t been anyone rising to general public attention quite that pathetic, although Robert “Beto” O’Rourke almost reached that level, almost. But after that artsy photo of Ms. Abrams in the parent post than many iSteve readers can’t get enough of, showing off her high BMI physique as, what is the word, heroic? Wagneresque? Pulchritudinous in the style of that famous fertility goddess Neolithic statuette?

I know it is early in the year, but that photo alone clinches the award for Ms. Abrams in the same way that photo of Mr. Marquez, in a toothy grin channeling Ms. Ferrera’s “Ugly Betty” character did they same for this hapless chump whose criminal antics helps fuel the rise of President Trump?

Waddya mean she is anything like Sarah Palin?

Governor Palin for she and her family offering up an Alaskan version of the Clampetts, championed the development of criticically needed oil and natural gas for America, long before the fracking boom, and put a royalty check in the mailbox of everyone in her state. Clampetts, Palins, there is a hydrocarbon connection, and SUV loving Americans love her for it.

The proper version of the slogan is not “Drill, baby, drill!” but rather “Drill here. Drill now.”, and this should have been the centerpiece of her contribution to the McCain campaign, that we were going to drill our way out of the 2008 Economic Crisis by the full-court press exploitation of hydrocarbon fuels, and this is what finally powered us out of the Obama Slump. All of her righty counter-SJW-ie personna ran the McCain campaign off the rails — the focus should have been Drill here, Drill now with everything else being a distraction.

It’s just a missing part of their brains.

IQ does not tell the full story – each race has different strengths and weaknesses that go beyond IQ. People here intuit that because they see Asian IQ being high on paper and yet they don’t always match what Westerners perceive as “genius”. (Jews tend to be weaker on visuo-spacial stuff considering their otherwise high IQs).

Black incomes in the US are something like 70% of white income but black wealth is a fraction of that because if a black person makes $100 they spend $100 (0r $150 if someone will give them credit). If they make $1,000 they’ll spend $1,000. There are tons of black former pro athletes who made millions but don’t have a dime.

Until Latinos can assert themselves they will openly be the black party elevated as a “first among equals” and the true heirs of the civil rights movement. A shrinking white / Jewish elite will still control the money and media but will be relentlessly challenged by fat populist / demagogues like Abrams. Hispanics, Asians, Feminist, etc. will all have to fight for their place on the totem only secure in the knowledge that they will out rank whites / men. The devil will take the hind most and as the party grows, the losers will peel off potentially joining the Republican / white party just like white working class people are doing now.

The end of the Democrats as we know them will come when their elites are shown the door and replaced. Ironically this is what they are trying to do with the Republicans but they will get it in the neck first and probably much quicker then they think. It will resemble the decolonization of Africa. Correct, IQ tests are ultimately a collection of cognition tests that are somewhat arbitrarily chosen. The ones in common use seem to have considerable predictive value for success in many fields in Western society.

Different groups tend to have different patterns of which cognitive tasks they are good at. Ashkenazi Jews tend to be verbally very adroit and average at spatial tasks.

Many high IQ people are not especially successful in life. MENSA is famously loaded with “waitresses, truck drivers, and Sealey Posturepedic mattress queens”. IQ is something that can be viewed as “necessary but not sufficient” for success in many fields.

Active railroad friends of mine were commenting on black locomotive engineers recently. One, whom I had met a couple times at a local cigar shop in my cigar smoking days, had recently retired and was mentioned as perhaps the smoothest motor man on the yard. His train handling skills were superb and he was often put on trains with business cars carrying high officials. But he was also a train wreck in his personal life, and talked about little besides strippers, hookers, porn and orgies in conversation. He bought new cars frequently and never maintained them. Traded them in and they went straight to the salvage yard because no one wanted to put a new engine or trans in a car that had an interior completely fouled by cigar smell and negro body odor and hooker p**** stank and cigar burns and with dents all over it.

He was only a slightly exaggerated version of the TNH (typical negro hog head) stereotype. They also depended on a conductor’s self preservation and railroad brotherhood instincts to remind them of the GCOR and general behavior a lot.

The election is fixed so whom you vote for is of no consequence.

Yet, looking at it from the fun side, as though things are what they tell us they are. No Stacy Adams will probably win Joe Biden 10% more votes then he will lose Joe Biden, so adding her to the ticket would not be significant. One of the stategies of the Khazar power structure for years has been to turn black men and women against each other and it has been successfull. Now the same strategies are being used against whites and, well, read Alden, or Atilla’s responses to men on these threads sometimes.

America by and large, likes black women less than black men which is to say, not much at all, and using a four-leaf clover like Oprah, as a indicator of how someone else will be received, is little like Don Wassal pointing out Christian McCaffery’s success as evidence that whites should dominate the running back position.

Yes, this Oprah wanna be might appeal to some suburban women voters, but she’s no Oprah. And I don’t think anyone will mistake her for one.

Without a known family you can assume she will also turn off the wiser black church ladies, who above everything else dislike gays. Mostly male ones, but probably most don’t care for lesbians either. Unless they are very talented, which some are, best to avoid.

Black males aren’t crazy about being dominated by emasculating black women either. Nor do most Hispanics love black politicians (or others, excepting maybe sports heroes). A Dem friend of mine tried to make Abram’s case that if Biden wins Georgia, he can win the general election, due to electoral politics, state by state. But he lives in Nate Silver dreamland where moving the vote in a few key precincts in key states means Trump will lose. Micro war gaming for those who miss the point.

But what I don’t get about this article is why no mention of some large public meeting in the Time Of Social Distancing? Isn’t that heresy? And elaborate hair styling? Isn’t that also a Red State sin? Or do black women all get a pass, like the Chicago Mayor? How can I get these memos so I can keep up?

  109. The striking part about this supposedly political article in the Washington Post is its imagery. Take a look at all the pictures. The stark, heroic shot-from-below black-and-white icon of Stacey Abrams against a halo of white smoke. The ghetto mural portrait of Stacey Abrams. The saintly facial portrait enhaloed in a circular mirror. Another shot-from-below heroic pose (with what looks like a metallic pain collar to ensure that she doesn’t go off-script).

Trump would love to run against a Biden-Abrams ticket, and it looks like he is trying to engineer it. The sponsor of a full-page ad like this is usually clearly stated, but Trump prefers to keep it secret through cutouts who will never be used again, as if the hype is organically driven by party-disciplined Democrats.

The 85% of blacks who comprise the black electorate Dems depend on, can invariably be counted on to vote exactly as told if they show up, but not necessarily to show up. That’s why elaborate turn out the black vote and “walking around money” campaigns exist. Of course, occasionally an especially dumb member of the coomoonity accidentally presses the wrong button or punches the wrong hole, but both known dissenters from The Black Line and those so very stupid that they can’t vote straight are not encouraged or helped to vote. But I suppose a Congresswoman married to a county mayor can afford something nice.

The trajectory of her net worth from 2017 (-$2.1M) to 2018 ($824K) is interesting. Any idea what happened there?

It is interesting that I don’t see her house in the list of assets. While her Jacksonville condo is there.

I couldn’t make sense of it. As far as I can see, they didn’t list the house as an asset. They listed the loan balance as a liability.

Open Secrets doesn’t have their actual balance sheets, just range numbers from a questionnaire. My guess would be that their ‘estimate’ of her net worth is the mean of the maximum and minimum possible value, so not valid.

Perhaps she has just not met a man with a sufficient commitment to heterosexuality.

Biden is looking for a black woman “who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking [gal].” That might be Kamala, but it ain’t Abrams.

Maybe Christopher Guest could run a search for VP. Of course, he’s a Brit, so maybe that would run afoul of what’s left of the Constitution. Not that there’s any right of the Constitution.

I wonder if “Who Wants To Be A Vice President” would be too obvious?
How about “Are You Smarter Than A Biden”?

Val and her husband are both in their 60s, no way they will ever pay that off on politicians’ salaries. Unless they do the Clinton “lucrative speaking engagement” and “Foundation” bit.

It’s not clear if they’re underwater on the house or not.

  143. It’s risible the way that the Democrat Party has painted itself into a corner, candidate-wise.

First, they produce a nominee who is clearly too old and too senile to run.

Second, Biden excludes half the human race from who can be a heartbeat away from the presidency under him. And behold the female Veep candidates: many of them Covid-high risk in age (≥ 60), many with experience deficits, many with huge negatives from their personalities or their management of their personal affairs.

Kamala Harris looks like a monster, now. Biden should pick a young black celebrity like … Wait, there isn’t one. All the good looking black lefty celebrities were born overseas.

  145. Imagine being an old Southern gentleman, living in Atlanta, with Keisha Lance Bottoms as your mayor and Stacy Abrams as your Governor, both doing 24-7 F*ck Whitey-isms.

    Luminous, voluminous, and numinous.
