From the Washington Post:
Nationals-Padres game suspended after shooting outside Nationals Park, D.C. police say
By Jesse Dougherty
July 17, 2021|Updated today at 11:13 p.m. EDTSaturday night’s game between the Washington Nationals and San Diego Padres was suspended after multiple gunshots were fired outside Nationals Park. Four people were shot, D.C. police wrote on Twitter, including two who walked into local hospitals for medical treatment.
Following the shooting, the players were pulled from the field and fans scrambled for cover, hiding behind their seats or retreating from the concourse. Others sprinted for the exits, and, according to multiple people at the game, there were shouts of a “shooter” that led to scrambles all around the building.
… That’s when a large number of people rushed the field with hopes of staying in the dugout. …
During the frantic moments, Padres players were seen pulling their family members — and other fans — out of the stands to find safety in the dugout, where at least 50 people gathered, Hann said.
Zero dead (so far), four wounded. So, according to Sailer’s Law of Mass Shootings, this colorful story will be soon forgotten after a few ritual references to “gun violence descended” and the like.

Something wrong with these shootings. Maybe blacks are being sold inferior guns or ammunition by racist whites.
I nearly had an orgasm Steve. This is schadenfreude overload. BoomerBall cancelled because of BoomerVirsity?
How, could this possibly get better?
Many years ago Paul Harvey had a bit where he said that the Washington Bullets basketball team would have to change their name to not glorify violence—to the Maryland Bullets.
DC is a truly dysfunctional place—mandarin elites, some of whom exist in genteel poverty, others with mega wealth, all sneering at the rest of America, a few blocks away from the most crime ridden drug riddled neighborhoods with absolutely worthless municipal programs and public schools.

They had already been the Baltimore Bullets and the Capital Bullets. When they started, because they played in Chicago's International Amphitheater (livestock exhibition hall) they were called the Chicago Packers, which was a big mistake.
This is, perhaps, OT to Steve’s post, but 100% on topic with my recent truth-serum enabled comments..
Oh crap! Truth serum failure! I forgot what I was about to write.
And therein perhaps resides our problem…
‘Something wrong with these shootings…’
I find the inaccuracy reassuring.
That is the most excitement the Nationals have generated all season.
How disgusting. Cowering like schoolgirls and allowing Negro savages to run wild with gunplay.
When a would-be assassin tried to kill Andrew Jackson on the steps of the Capitol at point-blank range with a brace of pistols, both weapons misfired. Jackson tried to beat the guy to death with his cane, and had to be restrained by Senators to prevent the President from killing the assassin.
That was a real American.
The weapons were later test-fired and both discharged.

Mad magazine once snarkily included on its list of unpromising experiences a San Diego Padres-Montreal Expos doubleheader. That was in the infancy of these clubs.
Now, a half-century later, these same twin franchises have found a way to get a rise in the crowd. And in the tradition of the expansion Washington Senators 2.0:
Game called due to light to medium small arms fire.
I’ve been to many Nationals games and I’m very familiar with this neighborhood. It’s in SouthEast DC which is rapidly gentrifying. There are a lot of new apartment buildings and restaurants in the area and it does look very nice, however it is still bordering a very black part of DC. Shootings in Southeast DC should really surprise no one, but to have one happen so close to the baseball stadium is a bit surprising.
Game suspended due to rain. A rain of bullets outside that didn’t even kill anyone. It was just some harmless horseplay from the colorful locals.
“It’s just the normal noises in here…” in every inner city in America.

What’s the problem? The spectators ought to have just relaxed and enjoyed the authenticity and the vibrancy of the stadium environs.
Was there an event for aspiring rappers somewhere in the vicinity?
The white people legally selling guns to black people who illegally sell guns to black people are 100% to blame.

George Will will write that the bilence wouldn’t have happened if Republicans hadn’t nominated Trump, and then back it up with some obscure baseball lore that no one gives a flying fig about.

Nationals Park. Isn’t that near where 2 sweet little black girls car jacked an UBER and killed the driver?
I just watched some video of the fans scrambling for cover. It actually looks funny. We have shootings all the time in my own gentrified neighborhood (housing project-adjacent), especially during the summer when everyone's outside, and occasionally someone gets killed. People don't pay that much attention, partly because it's hard to distinguish gunshots from fireworks, which are detonated all the time, not just on the Fourth of July. But Nats fans flood in from all over Maryland and Virginia, so they're not used to the all-too-frequent Saturday-night events around here.Replies: @Skyler the Weird

Yeah. It’s called Urban America.
I have to admit, they did act a bit like little girls. You may be sure a lot of negroes had fun watching that on TV tonight.
OT: There is something about police. They can’t help themselves. Driven by the muscle memory when to deploy their batons.

If only some of the commentators on i-Steve had been there to show them how to fire their weapons properly.
Yes, it is. I live in SW Washington, right on the other side of South Capitol.

Stephen A. Smith also said the same thing about baseball losing its entertainment value, but according to him, it’s because of those funny talking Japs.

Since there may be some natives reading this, is the completely and undeniably valid White House of the President-Legit still under military occupation? Still troops and barbed wire?
George Will: America’s prissiest conservative.
I don’t have to follow sports to know that I hate every Washington team and their fans.
Most of the people who go to Nationals games or live in DC aren’t “real” Americans, and many aren’t even technically Americans. They share nothing with the tens of millions whose ancestors founded this nation and settled the continent from sea to shining sea. What is tragic is that these outsiders control the instruments of power, and they turn against those who gave them the opportunity in the first place
No mention in the WaPo article of info on a suspect or possible perp. Now that’s journalism!
All african gun criminals shall be deported to the Sahara.
For sure “the community” in DC is having some good laughs at seeing 30+ thousand whites “cowering in place” then running from that stadium. I can only go by the photos in the UK Daily Mail, just about all the fans were white.
There is no denying there was fan driven chaos and panic in that stadium when the shots rang out. A madness of crowds thing.

You’d need Harry Caray in the broadcast booth to do this incident justice, with maybe Phil Rizzuto (“What a bunch of huckleberries!”) or a mildly inebriated Mike Shannon (“Jusht like Abner Doubleday planned it!”)
In certain cities this could drive a trend back to daytime baseball
San Diego plated 24 runs on Friday. The offense spilled into the streets the next day.

I remember the subway area around the old RFK was pretty chancey too. You had to be aware walking to a skin’s or federals game.
I don’t remember any Yankees games in the 1970s having to be stopped because of shooting outside the Stadium

That neighborhood–around the RFK Stadium–is gentrifying at a pretty fast clip these days as well. Pleasant-looking row houses adjacent to a Metro stop close to Capitol Hill are a winning proposition. It’s still not a neighborhood in which I’d walk around alone at night, though.
It’s hard to be shooting people when the neighborhood’s burning.
Which is appropriate. Their team was shanghaied from Canada.
Every once in a while Smith will say things to run interference for others (Maria Taylor in this case).
Call it karma for dicking around with the original name of DC’s football team.

Nationals Park is less than a mile from the Navy Yard where an active shooter killed 12 people in Sept 2013. It is not far fetched to believe that a shooting incident at the stadium could be terrorism or a crazed active shooter.

When the Yankees played in London two years ago, Reggie wasn’t allowed to attend for this reason.
Back in the late 1980’s I visited Boston with some friends. We drove into the city at night and ended up at a Howard Johnson’s hotel. It backed up onto Fenway park. We walked around the whole block and all you saw was endless piles of trash and rubble, burned out cars on the streets and gay bars were everywhere. We actually went to a red sox game a few nights later. The whole crowd of fans seemed to be all white. I noticed as soon as the game ended practically every white person in the stadium all left seemingly as one body for the walk to the subway train station some distance away. The whole area around there was a complete shithole. Don’t know what it is like now.
That's like half our cities.
White people from the burbs visit them for a sports game or concert and then leave.
That is why sports owners can talk these cities into new stadiums. The sports owners basically extort them.
Build a new stadium or we take all our White fans and their restaurant/bar/hotel/taxi money with us.
That is how they end up extorted by millionaires. The politicians crunch the numbers and realize it is a huge amount of money they bring in.
There may be a good reason why a white person comes into a black neighborhood and pays $100 for a ticket to watch mostly POCs play a kids game, but I can’t think of what it is.

Love that song. That whole first side of that LP was one of the best sides of all time. The 2nd side unfortunately kinda went south, if you know what I mean. I should give it another listen though, I might like a couple of those mellow, countrified songs now. What were we talking about?
I still wonder if that poor girl ever got her phone back.

Don’t forget the obligatory call to ban and confiscate AR15’s from suburbanites.
I take exception to at least Louisiana Rain on side 2. That’s a mellowed countrified one for you. It’s my very favorite ballad (?, OK slow song, at least) by Tom Petty. When he died ~ 4 years ago, I put that one on my blog along with my favorite rock one Listen to her Heart.
Tom Petty came around with Like a Refugee, along with some Pat Bean-eater music, to put an end to the scourge of Disco.
