From the Associated Press:

San Francisco board open to reparations with $5M payouts

Associated Press
Janie Har
Published Mar 14, 2023 • Last updated 1 hour ago • 5 minute read

SAN FRANCISCO — Payments of $5 million to every eligible Black adult, the elimination of personal debt and tax burdens, guaranteed annual incomes of at least $97,000 for 250 years and homes in San Francisco for just $1 a family.

These were some of the more than 100 recommendations made by a city-appointed reparations committee tasked with the thorny question of how to atone for centuries of slavery and systemic racism. And the San Francisco Board of Supervisors hearing the report for the first time Tuesday voiced enthusiastic support for the ideas listed, with some saying money should not stop the city from doing the right thing.

Several supervisors said they were surprised to hear pushback from politically liberal San Franciscans apparently unaware that the legacy of slavery and racist policies continues to keep Black Americans on the bottom rungs of health, education and economic prosperity, and overrepresented in prisons and homeless populations.

“Those of my constituents who lost their minds about this proposal, it’s not something we’re doing or we would do for other people. It’s something we would do for our future, for everybody’s collective future,” said Supervisor Rafael Mandelman, whose district includes the heavily LGBTQ Castro neighborhood.

The draft reparations plan, released in December, is unmatched nationwide in its specificity and breadth. The committee hasn’t done an analysis of the cost of the proposals, but critics have slammed the plan as financially and politically impossible. An estimate from Stanford University’s Hoover Institution, which leans conservative, has said it would cost each non-Black family in the city at least $600,000.

Note that the 15 person commission that came up with this Christmas wish list is A) all black and B) not very bright. It’s not like the membership is former mayor Willie Brown and some black CPAs trying to put together something that might pass, it’s a black studies professor and various lowbrows from the community making up nonsense. But, still, they are black, so the gay Jewish lawyer supervisor from Yale has to act enthusiastic.

Tuesday’s unanimous expressions of support for reparations by the board do not mean all the recommendations will ultimately be adopted, as the body can vote to approve, reject or change any or all of them.

Narrator: The Board won’t ultimately adopt them.

  1. This guy lives in a Camaro. I think the least we can do as wypipos is to life in our vehicles so that the Numinous Ones can have $5 million each, plus income and have all their debts paid off, etc etc.

My only question is what about the next generation of negroes? And the next? Aren’t they gonna want theirs too? Inflation adjusted please.

What’s next? Are Californians gonna pay “reparations” to the fucking Greeks for losing Constantinople??!!

I know! Let’s get a Greek Think Tank together to help us decide!

    Because… we’re fucking CRAZY!!!

  3. Tuesday’s unanimous expressions of support for reparations by the board do not mean all the recommendations will ultimately be adopted

Well of course not. That’s why we ask for 5 or 10 million (including all the extra perks). So when we settle for $4 million all y’all wypipos feel like you getting a bargain.

And since we had to compromise again, we get to stay mad and keep wrecking yo sht in perpetuity.

If they *really* and *truly* want to show to the world what ‘good people’ they are, why not officially sponsor Oakland, the abused step sister across the water?
Just think what a difference that would make. Rich whites in SF living the privileged good life, whilst their dark brethren, out of sight and out of mind across the channel are ignored, looked over and despised, like they don’t exist, sequestered and hidden away, only fit to be suppliers of house maids, janitors and the like.
Come on, SF, do the right thing. Bring Oakland to your hearts and minds.

Once there, in exchange for giving up US citizenship, a monthly allowance of say $1,000 for life…a bargain compared to their cost to society here. They’ll live as rightful Kangs & Queens on that, the average yearly wage in Liberia being around $1,100 per annum. Able to afford their own “slaves” if it’ll make ‘em feels as betters. Most importantly they’ll finally fit, they’ll be…homey. Hell, open the offer to any US citizen who signs, regardless of race/creed. With good wishes I’d say goodbye and good luck over in the single star country.

Unfortunately, I’m thinking this talk of reparations is just a bate switch ruse. What will likely happen is some token amount, a bump added to their ‘ol EBT card. The add made just prior to every selection, er…election, to ensure proper outcomes.

Edit: Maybe don’t count Ms. Har (UCB, Boalt JD) out too soon. The Korean Bolshevik is proud of her Feb. 22 AP story, Japanese Americans won redress, fight for Black reparations:

Thirty-five years after [Miya Iwataki and other Japanese Americans] won that apology — and survivors of prison camps received $20,000 each— those advocates are now demanding atonement for Black Americans whose ancestors were enslaved. From California to Washington, D.C., activists are joining revived reparations movements and pushing for formal government compensation for the lasting harm of slavery’s legacy on subsequent generations, from access to housing and education to voting rights and employment.

  27. Have the Japanese Japanese paid anything to the survivors of their prison camps, and anything to the many more non-survivors of their prison camps?

Between 180,000 and 250,000 Southeast Asian civilians and over 60,000 Allied prisoners of war were subjected to forced labour during its construction. Around 90,000 civilians died, as did more than 12,000 Allied prisoners.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burma_Railway

Note that while the death rate for Brit prisoners was 20%, the death rate for the locals was up to 50%.

The Japanese were also pioneers of human experimentation, way before the Germans got at it.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unit_731

“Unit 731 was responsible for some of the most notorious war crimes committed by the Japanese armed forces. It routinely conducted tests on people who were dehumanized and internally referred to as “logs”. Experiments included disease injections, controlled dehydration, hypobaric chamber experiments, biological weapons testing, vivisection, amputation, and standard weapons testing. Victims included not only kidnapped men, women (including pregnant women) and children, but also babies born from the systemic rape perpetrated by the staff inside the compound. The victims came from different nationalities, with the majority being Chinese and a significant minority being Russian. Additionally, Unit 731 produced biological weapons that were used in areas of China not occupied by Japanese forces, which included Chinese cities and towns, water sources, and fields. Estimates of those killed by Unit 731 and its related programs range up to half a million people, and none of the inmates survived.”

I see as part of the campaign against China, who only 20 years back were our elite favourites (as they could make goods there cheaply and sell them here for the same price) we’re encouraging Japan to expand her military again.

Today’s neo-Confederates, in whose church old Father Abraham is the Antichrist, quite forget that when a young man he was nearly murdered by a gang of black thugs while bringing produce from the family farm to market downriver. This ugly experience had a lasting impact on his thought. Radical abolitionists fairly frothed with rage when he won the presidential nomination over their favorite, New York Governor Seward; but leaders of the infant Republican Party knew that running an antislavery man would have been political suicide in 1860.

It’s a sad commentary on human nature that those US blacks who were emancipated and sent to Liberia quickly formed an elitist caste over the indigenous population, whom they regarded as ignorant savages.

Yes, and it incentivizes a very bad paradigm for blacks: that the white race is irredeemably corrupted, and that blacks are owed simply by virtue of existing. In sum, large cultural and financial incentives are being dangled in front of blacks to hate white people for a corruption of blood, a concept that was put to sleep centuries ago. To borrow some archaic examples, non-whites are being taught to view whites as the Romans viewed the Carthaginians, or as the Israelis viewed the Amalekites.

This all taps into very deep instincts among humans, dating back to our pack-animal origins, and “citizenism” will not be able to paper this over.

BTW, per Wikipedia Corcoran sits on land that was once the home of the Yokut Indians. The state could recoup some of the reparations payments by allowing the Yokuts to operate a casino at the prison, with prisoners as dealers, bouncers, hookers (it is near Frisco, after all), etc. Win-win.

The most insane thing about it all is that we could put this all to bed once and for all if we had public figures willing to openly say that reparations are not justice and should be opposed – a majority of the public agrees with this, but has been totally cowed by the racial grift machine. Just simply ask the 87% of the non-black public – do you want to pay taxes now and forever to subsidize blacks at the expense of yourself and your family?

  51. Art Deco says:

Here’s a question. What is it in the social dynamics of local areas in our time that the elected officials come to be drawn almost entirely drawn from the ranks of people whose work life has been crucially dependent on spending other people’s money or where it is crucially dependent on rent-seeking?

Should these crazy ideas come to fruition, there would be so many black people flocking there to get paid, from around the US (and Africa, via Mexico) that the combined weight of millions of them would pressure the San Andreas Fault to crack and break off the entire SF Bay area.

This monstrous quake would then create a tsunami and flood much of the surrounding remaining landscape. Sacramento would be inundated.

Now some would claim this was an act of God or some kind of righteous cleansing.

That’s completely impossible and ridiculous. The slave trade in the US ended in 1808. The fortunes of the slave traders of 1808 have been dissipated and divided dozens of times since then so it is impossible to trace them and for the most part there is nothing left of such fortunes to begin with.

Nevertheless, since my ancestors in the shtetl had absolutely nothing to do with the American slave trade, I endorse your proposal. I am glad to contribute nothing to reparations for American slavery because for sure I had nothing to do with it.

The right answer is that reparations should only be paid directly to those affected (and since all the slaves are dead, to no one). My parents received (small) pensions from Germany as a result of their mistreatment by the German government. When they passed away, the pension checks stopped and this is as it should be.

If I received reparations, not only would this be unjust to the people of Germany today, who had nothing to do with Nazi crimes (most were not even born yet) but it would send a false message that I am not responsible for my own success or failure. Since the end of slavery, many generations of immigrants (even black immigrants) have come to America with all sorts of handicaps beyond even those of American blacks – they came penniless and in many cases unable to speak the language or even to read and write and yet those immigrants managed to succeed and their descendants even more so. Only blacks have remained mired in the muck and they are the ones that have to pull themselves out of it. Sending them a big check would only send the wrong message.

Now, your initial reaction might be one of absolute horror, at the possibility of pending disaster, potential legal culpability, and the sheer madness of watching one of your friends, kill himself in the most spectacular way imaginable.

But, after the shock fades away, you realize that if he is going to attempt such a thing, it’s your moral and humanistic obligation to bear witness to the event, if for no other reason than to be able to recount it to the authorities, and his grieving mother, or, better still, being able to regale your friends with a story for the ages, assuming Cleetus manages to pull it off.

Perhaps, jumping over a shark filled tank in an arena on a motorcycle is better example, but I digress…

Ergo, the joy in watching this “only in California” soap opera drama unfold, is equally amusing, because for the most part, we all know that IT CAN NEVER HAPPEN!!

These fools can postulate whatever they want, virtue signal all of the best intentions ever put onto paper, and capture some brief headlines for their absurd proposals, blah blah blah. But in the end, sooner or later, somebody somewhere is going to look at whatever they dream up, laugh, and politely say “no fucking way we are doing any of that horseshit, we’d bankrupt the entire state!”

I don’t know when that shoe will drop, and I have no earthly idea whom will drop it, but somebody will eventually, and we will all get a wonderful, hearty chuckle, while watching this fabulous turd getting flush down the bowl of broken dreams, and reparations fantasies will cause so many tears, that the California perpetual drought will be ended for a millennium!

So, we can yuck it up, and laugh at their stupidity, as they spitball the insane, preposterous, fantastical “idea” of paying every Dindu and Sheniqua, millions of clams, because Kunta Kinte was forced to change his name to Toby… but it ain’t never going to come to fruition, and everybody with a brain, or checking account, knows as much, but it’s funny to read their “pie in the sky” ideas, and wait…. wait until the day when somebody, finally has to say… “No Fucking Way!!”

You look at the composition of the local municipal council where I grew up five generations later (a core city, btw), you see a couple of accountants, a nurse, a pharmacist, a bank teller, a couple of small time lawyers (in private practice), &c all elected via universal suffrage. So, you want to tell me why such people apparently have no interest in San Francisco municipal government (or in that of Roanoke, Va, another burg where I’ve discovered this same phenomenon) any more and have left seats on the council to the clot collection that’s there now?

It sure is. After Gavin Newsome delivers the cash rolls to downtrodden California blacks who seem fat and prosperous but I guess my eyes are deceiving me, the urban sideways and byways will be popping with new venues for the long-suppressed black creative spirit. It will truly be a bargain for the liberal Jewish element and the hysterically woke WASP women in this city. Blacks with cash will be pouring into their carefully-curated majority white urban neighborhoods, parks, and precious restaurant scene. And whilst the newly wealthy black youth and goddesses carry on with their anti-social havoc and intimidation tactics that Gavin’s largess was supposed to quash, the rictus grins on the faces of the liberal Jews and WASP women will become tighter.

Remember, IL Supreme Court is already pre-BRIBED by our Billionaire Gun Controller Gov. Jelly Belly.

(The Center Square) – Gov. J.B. Pritzker doesn’t just appear at the top as a defendant in the Macon County gun-ban challenge in front of the Illinois Supreme Court. He’s also the top donor for two supreme court justices’ campaigns.

Pritzker donated a total of $2 million to then-Illinois Supreme Court candidates Mary O’Brien and Elizabeth Rochford, $1 million each.

The governor signed a law in 2022 that capped contribution limits in such campaigns to $500,000 from “any single person.” Despite that, to each candidate, half a million came from each of Pritzker’s political campaign and his revocable trust.

Illinois House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch, D-Hillside, is also a top donor to the justices with O’Brien receiving $350,000 and Rochford receiving $150,000 from The People for Emanuel Chris Welch fund. Welch is another top defendant in the gun-ban challenge and the challenge against Illinois’ no-cash bail law that’s currently on hold pending appeal.

Rochford and O’Brien won in November and now sit on the bench of seven at the state’s highest court.

First, almost all of San Francisco’s non-black residents would leave the city, thus abandoning their very valuable properties. Black people would then be able to occupy these very valuable abandoned properties.

However, the very same valuable properties that had previously been in white and Asian neighborhoods, would now be in black neighborhoods. And, of course, because these properties would now be in what had become dangerous black neighborhoods, the value of these properties would collapse. Indeed, San Francisco would become just another Jackson, Mississippi, albeit with a better view.

Elvis’s daughter inherited a boffo fortune from Elvis and ran thru almost all of it. The best way to make a small fortune is to start with a big one. “From shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in three generations” is the usual rule.

This is why the reparations planners have wisely included a guaranteed annual income of at least $97,000 for the next 250 years (I hope they make this inflation adjusted!) for each beneficiary and all his future descendants* – the one time payment of $5M is going to be GONE in a jiffy. There are countless stories of black lottery winners and professional athletes who burn thru even bigger fortunes.

*not clear how this is supposed to work. 250 years from now, the thousands of SF blacks who are qualified for this payment will have MILLIONS of descendants, some of whom will be only 1/1024th black by then. Is each one of them supposed to get $97k per annum for life? The money needed to fund this would not be in the billions, it would be in the trillions. This is one more thing that leads me to believe that these folks have ZERO understanding of money. Like a cargo cult level of understanding.

I think these numbers work on a “send them a message” level, like when the trial lawyer says “Make GM pay $5 million in punitive damages to Crippled Jimmy to send GM a message that building unsafe automobiles is wrong. ” This works on the individual level and maybe even on the class action level where you bankrupt a particular company like J&J or Johns Manville so they can right the wrongs suffered by a few hundred cancer victims. But when you are talking about making astronomical payments to tens of thousands of “victims” just in SF (and tens of millions of victims if your repeat the exercise on a national level) there just isn’t enough money on earth to make every black person in America a kang in perpetuity, even if they all deserve to be kangs for what was done to them (a dubious proposition to begin with).

Definitely charge cult level. I think they literally have no understanding of money in any numerate or arithmetic sense. To them, it’s magic tokens white hoard for themselves and only grudgingly hand out when forced to.

I saw how many if not most blacks handled their finances in my old neighborhood. Bills and financial obligations seemed to be viewed mainly as obstacles to their discretionary spending. The notion that they should pay their debts actually seemed foreign to them. When they did pay, it was not out of a sense of obligation but to avoid penalties they didn’t think they could talk their way out of. Their understanding was literally that of a very small child receiving his allowance.

We are awarding you 40 gazzilion quatloos for your pain and suffering! You deserve every penny of this for the awful way America has treated you! If they had named a more realistic number there might have been a serious debate but these numbers have zero chance.

  102. Nobody has used the most accurate word to describe these “reparation” demands :SHAKEDOWN. Exactly what do the blacks think has gone on for the last 60 years? The reparations have ALREADY been paid in the TRILLIONS of dollars. The average American black receives 100 times more in annual income from WELFARE than their African brethren earn from working, the average ANNUAL: income for many countries being less than $400.oo. That’s FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS. PER YEAR

It is simply unbelievable that noone refutes the endless refrain about “systematic white racism” with this simple rejoinder; If blacks’ penury was caused by bogotry it stands to reason that an Africa devoid of Caucasians would be a cornucopia of black wealth. But the opposite is true and Africa is a myriad of social, economic, amd political disasters since the end of colonialism in 1960.

Where is there ONE white politican to state the obvious and forever curtail the endlless whining for handouts by blacks.? However, there is a case to be made for a reparations for one class of people: the descendants of the 350,000 Union soldiers who died freeing the slaves. That would be the equivalent of an astounding 3,500,000 WHITE MEN being slain today.

Every black person should be honored to pay into a fund that compensates descendants of the men that set them free. Is there ONE Republican with the guts to stand up to these grifters and remind America of those valiant Union soldiers? Instead trillions and trillions of free food, money, housimg, and healthcare for the blacks is evidently not enough and the Shakedown continues now on steroids!. And it will never end until the beleaguered, self-hating whites finally get tired of being chumps. The beginning of welfare ultimately is the end for any civil society.

  103. From Wiki:

“Slaves shipped to those regions that are part of the present-day United States[30]
    Date Slaves
    1626–1650 824
    1651–1675 0
    1676–1700 3,327
    1701–1725 3,277
    1726–1750 34,004
    1751–1775 84,580
    1776–1800 67,443
    1801–1825 109,545
    1826–1850 1,850
    1851–1875 476
    Total 305,326”

Centuries of slavery? Until 1750 there were hardly any here. And a century later a war was fought which resulted in the liberation of all of them. So, one hundred and fifteen years, 1750 to 1865.

Plus, by the Civil War, blacks numbered four million. Today, forty two million. They have thrived. Out reproduced whites over the same period in fact. Hell, whites haven’t even kept up including white immigration from Europe since the end of the Civil War! Fact.

An unintended, unforeseen consequence of handing out millions in “reparations” would be that no black will ever work again. The money needed to fund this would not be in the billions, it would be in the trillions.

About 40 million people in this country descended from slaves. Give each of them $5 million and that comes to…$200 trillion.

The total value of all publicly traded companies in the US is only about $40 trillion. The total value of all US assets, private and public, is about $150 trillion.

Somehow the people who came up with this reparations plan think 40 million African-Americans would be 133% as rich as the entire United States (pop. 330 million) if there had never been slavery or (presumably) Jim Crow. The reality of *all* black-majority countries (about 50 of them) suggests a rather different outcome.

Where would the USA be if it had never had slavery? Probably pretty similar to those two other continent-spanning descendants of the Anglo-Saxon diaspora – Australia and Canada. In other words, pretty damn nice, but with much better weather (compared to Canada) and less arid (compared to Australia). Oh, and with a homicide rate about one-fifth of what we have now.

When reparations do come, Asians and Hispanics won’t be paying. Only Whites will pay. Is it only a coincidence that the lawyer was gay? They’ll be next in line for “reparations” (really just welfare on stilts). It’ll be the 1964 Civil Rights Act all over again, but much worse, with the proverbial can of worms becoming the Grand Canyon.

  123. @Kylie

No reparations without deportation and renunciation of their American citizenship.

Kylie, once again your basic good sense. This is far and away the most important–only important–comment on this issue.

    “No reparations without repatriation”

Is the rhetorical nuclear bomb–and not just on this issue but on race and immigration generally.

American blacks are the great beneficiaries of slavery. Their ancestors suffered, and they are reaping the rewards by being born in white constructed and run nation. Millions are swarming the border. Hundreds of millions of people around the globe would like to get into America, including most blacks in Africa. Black Americans literally won the lottery … and whine about it.

But this does heavy lifting on immigration as well. Living in America has value to people.

The average American’s greatest asset is being born in American. Simply state that.

And make it explicit and put a price on it. Let’s make that “American residence” property right explicit. Living in America is valuable–very valuable. If an immigrant wants to come, they must buy the right to live in America off an American who wants to leave. (And no deathbed sale. The right is per age. If a 20 year old wants to come, they need to buy from a 20 year old–or younger–who wants to leave.)

Putting out there the basic truth that living in America is a valuable right that belongs to Americans … and our elites are giving it away to foreigners and degrading it for Americans, is a powerful idea.

You could also just state that post 64 immigration is something that nobody asked for or wanted, and that it, along with all of the amnesties, was illegal. After that you just strip people of citizenship if they can’t prove ancestry from pre 1964 citizens. Then you sharply define citizenship, history, and culture to recreate pre 1964 America.

I know….it can’t be done. But it can be done. It’s extreme, but so was demographic change through immigration. If things are going to get ugly anyway, why not try to win….especially when right and history are on your side?

Why don’t we all just compromise, and California can be the first state to issue an “Adopt-a-Black” program? It could even have supporting sponsors like Lowe’s and Home Depot who could give deep discounts on their mini-sheds, so adopted blacks could have their on homes in the backyards of qualified properties. Californians would provide perpetual room and board for blacks who sign up for the program!

If you all are like me, I have chores to do around here every day. An adopted black could do all of that for you! Cooking, cleaning, washing the car, gardening, suckling our newborns could all be done for you thanks to Adopt-a-Black!

Instead of actual cash, we could pay them in special tokens that only allows them to purchase approved food or work clothes. That way, they wouldn’t be able to spend it haphazardly on crack, ho’s, crack-hos’s, dice games, or whatever else is currently popular with California blacks these days.

In central California, we still have quite a few farms. Qualified blacks could work on the farms to receive their reparations. They could have orderly shed villages, and maybe even put a few of the sheds together to make their own church. With that many blacks, it would probably be smart to establish curfews for them. They could probably use a general overseer, just to help keep them concentrated on their daily schedule. Maybe some trained police dogs to protect their sheds at night.

Anyway, the reader must see what I’m trying to do here:

Reparations for blacks that is structured in such a way that is so clean and efficient, blacks who sign up for it will stick with it all their productive lives!

This idea of a tradeable residence right is really a terrific idea. It does a lot of political work:

    — make clear America has *owners*

    — shows that that ownership is actually quite valuable

    — ergo demonstrates that the immigrationists are diluting/destroying property of Americans–stealing from them and giving to others

    — blows up the immigrationists argument about mobility; hey, if Apple or Google or Microsoft really wants some bright young thing … just pay for him to come

    — gives all Americans–even those not doing well–something specific and tangible that is theirs; a feeling of ownership/possession/belonging; “no you are not starting at the bottom, you’re actually been gifted a legacy”; an impetus to do better … or cash out

    — makes the connection with environmental stewardship; we want to keep ourselves a nice, not overpopulated place

    — long term the trades will actually improve the human stock of America; scammers, scowflaws, losers will tend to sell out to people who are capable and invested in being in America

    — which in turn will improve America’s politics, as the parasite party requires large numbers of incompetent the incompetent and aggreivied

The most amusing aspect surrounding the reparations debate is the idea that the American Negro does not owe considerable reparations to all US nonblacks for decades of social parasitism (section 8, affirmative action, welfare, EBT, government jobs, etc), rape, murder, carjacking, robbery, rioting, looting, fomenting racial hatred, as well as many other preferences in academia, advertising, TV, and film. Honestly, not exaggerating here, assuming that the reparations issue is never going to go away on its own, I could (or really, any reasonable educated White person who has given the problem 90 minutes’ worth of thought could) come up with a detailed, workable, practically-affordable reparations plan over a long weekend which would actually achieve the (allegedly) sought-after goals without any cash payouts, which we all know would accomplish nothing and make everything worse.

But the people running and supporting this preposterous grift do not want any actual solutions, they just want gibs, and then the right to keep complaining because the gibs aren’t and can never possibly be enough.

If you have been damaged, you ask for compensation for your damages ($5 million a head is WAY more than the wealth of the average white family – it’s like 1% weath) and now you have been put even. If blacks were the true equal of whites, that would be it – now that the score has been evened, the game can resume on an equal footing. –Provisions will be made for repatriation to reparee’s desired country on the African continent by cruise ship.
–A monthly stipend will be paid to each reparee in the currency of the respective African country equal to one-million Zimbabwe dollars (1,000,000.00).
–Any attempt to return to the USA or its possessions will be regarded as a crime, punishable by relocation to a remote, offshore USA penal colony for life with loss of all reparation benefits.

That would be awful if it was true, but you (or someone) just made up that blood libel. This is what actually happened according to the most reliable sources:

In November 1841 Sengbe Pieh {Cinque’s real name} returned to Mendeland in present-day Sierra Leone with the other African captives. They were accompanied by missionaries charged with helping them readjust to life in Africa.

It is not believed that Pieh ever found his family, as reports say that they perished during an ongoing war. Little is known of what became of Sengbe Pieh after his return to Sierra Leone.

    https://www.nps.gov/people/sengbe-pieh.htm

Now this is not much better – Africa was a war torn place and Cinque ended up getting killed (and maybe eaten). If he had stayed on that ship, he probably would have had many descendants in Cuba (some of whom would be living in America by now). But that’s not the same as your fake version.

Here is Samuel Eliot Morrison, one of the most distinguished of American historians, writing in his “Oxford History of the American People,” (New York: Oxford University Press, 1965), p. 520:

“The most famous case involving slavery, until eclipsed by Dred Scott’s, was that of the Amistad in 1839. She was a Spanish slave ship carrying 53 newly imported Negroes who were being moved from Havana to another Cuban port. Under the leadership of an upstanding Negro named Cinqué, they mutinied and killed captain and crew. Then, ignorant of navigation, they had to rely on a white man whom they had spared to sail the ship.

“He stealthily steered north, the Amistad was picked up off Long Island by a United States warship, taken into New Haven, and with her cargo placed in charge of the federal marshal. Then what a legal hassle! Spain demanded that the slaves be given up to be tried for piracy, and President Van Buren attempted to do so but did not quite dare.

“Lewis Tappan and Roger Sherman Baldwin, a Connecticut abolitionist, undertook to free them by legal process, and the case was appealed to the Supreme Court. John Quincy Adams, persuaded to act as their attorney, argued that the Negroes be freed, on the ground that the slave trade was illegal both by American and Spanish law, and that mankind had a natural right to freedom.

“The court with a majority of Southerners, was so impressed by the old statesman’s eloquence that it ordered Cinqué and the other Negroes set free, and they were returned to Africa. The ironic epilogue is that Cinqué, once home, set himself up as a slave trader.”

(End quotation from historian Samuel Eliot Morrison)

No sources portray Cinque as a slave trader until the 20th century. See this article:

    http://commonplace.online/article/cinque-slave-trader/

Morrison’s assertion is built on earlier assertions which are built on nothing. When you dig down, there is no real evidence.

There is indeed evidence that some of the returned captives from the Amistad went into the slave trade. It was a lucrative business. The experience of the Amistad captives in the West and the English and Spanish that they learned would have put them in a good position to participate in the trade. But there is no reliable evidence that Cinque was one of them.

The larger and more important story (read the article) is that there were (even then) white do-gooder missionaries who risked their lives to go to Africa and civilize the Negroes and teach them morality and this ALWAYS ended in disappointment. A few of the blacks would “get it” but most of them wouldn’t or couldn’t no matter how hard the missionaries tried to teach them. But there’s no proof that Cinque was in the latter group.

Perhaps the most interesting part is this account of the evidence underlying the claim.

Owens explained in the “Afterword” of Slave Mutiny that he had placed all “typescript copies” of documents he used in the “Amistad collection” of the New Haven Colony Historical Society Library in Connecticut. “The factual background,” he assured readers, “can be documented in every important detail.”?
Thinking that this collection might provide the documentation Owens used in claiming that Cinque traded in slaves, I was surprised to learn that it did not. Indeed, the collection is not in New Haven-and has not been for some time. The executive director of the New Haven Colony Historical Society Library, Robert Egleston, informed me that he had been unable to find any record of the papers.
Johnson has a different account that rests on his research experience in New Haven some forty-odd years ago. “If I remember correctly,” he recently told me, “when I asked for the Owens documentation, there was a folder but it was empty. However, no one there at the time remembered his removing it or even depositing it…. I left with the impression that the documents had been there and [had been] removed by someone.” Johnson is now “convinced that Owens himself removed the notes” a short time after the book’s publication in 1953 and deposited them in his native state of Texas at the Cushing Library of Texas A&M University. Johnson’s statement is compatible with that of the historian Samuel Flagg Bemis, who wrote his 1956 book, John Quincy Adams and the Union, while at Yale University and offered a description of the documents that suggested he had used them.

Fascinating… Did Johnson (or anyone else claiming that, including Jones) try looking at the Cushing Library?

    This is an interesting wrinkle.

In 1962, three years before Morison’s Oxford History of the American People appeared, he and Henry Steele Commager coauthored the fifth edition of a widely used college-level, two-volume textbook entitled The Growth of the American Republic. In that edition, for the first time in the book’s publishing history, the charge against Cinque appeared, in almost exactly the same words (in a separate paragraph for emphasis) as would be found in the 1965 Oxford volume: “The ironic epilogue is that Cinque, once back home, set himself up as a slave trader.” Thus The Growth of the American Republic provided the basis for The Oxford History of the American People.

A memorial was erected in New Haven, CT in 1992.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amistad_Memorial_(New_Haven)

I guess Matthew Fontaine Maury is not suitable for honoring, but Cinque is…

    From your link.

When he left New York in November 1841, Cinqué assumed he would be in charge of the entire expedition and that the missionaries and all their supplies would be under his control. He decided to pursue an independent course when he realized that this would not be the case. Evidence from the antislavery press suggests that he became a conventional merchant, probably trading rum, tobacco, and various kinds of local produce. He did remain in the vicinity, however, and clashed openly with the white missionaries. William Raymond thought he was “both dishonest and licentious” and was not pleased when he attempted to carry away some of the younger Amistad survivors for a ritual clitoridectomy, or female circumcision. A major confrontation was avoided when the young women, who remained closely attached to the missionaries, refused to leave. Raymond declined to support the woman Cinqué had married in Freetown and at one point told him to remove all of his belongings from a communal home owned by the mission. Another missionary blamed Cinqué for causing “most of our troubles.”

No, it granted future generations the right to include other groups in the body politic. As more “outsiders” came into our country, there progeny became “insiders”. For example, the Chinese were invited by railroad executives to work on the Transcontinental Railroad. While they faced significant discrimination, they proved their worth. It paid off in spades, as Congress granted this group (and other Asians) with official citizenship rights. That’s who we are. Even your own ancestors benefitted from this process.

That would appear to have had more to do with changes in the reigning ideology and historical circumstances than anything the Chinese had or hadn’t done. They didn’t become citizens when they finished the Transcontinental Railroad. They became eligible for citizenship in 1943, when, aside from changes in ideological fashion, China was our ally.
