From The Hill:

Russian-linked campaign used Pokémon Go to meddle in election
BY REBECCA SAVRANSKY – 10/12/17 03:25 PM EDT

The mobile game app Pokémon Go was reportedly used by a Russian-linked campaign to meddle in U.S. politics.

CNN reported that a Russian-linked campaign called “Don’t Shoot Us,” likely run by Moscow-linked “troll farm” Internet Research Agency (IRA), used Pokémon Go — among several other mediums including Facebook and Twitter — and posed as a part of the Black Lives Matter movement.

The Moscow-linked actors appear to be the source of the campaign that had a goal to raise racial tensions by bringing up incidents of police brutality.

The campaign posted on its Tumblr page to urge users to play Pokémon Go as part of a contest. It encouraged users to find Pokémon in places where police brutality had happened and then to rename their Pokémon after the victims.

So Black Lives Matter was, in effect, a Russkie plot to destroy America? That makes sense.

Here’s Putin using Russian mind-control waves to take over Hillary’s brain:

By the way, is The Hill a real news site?

  1. I’m confused. Wouldn’t that motivate Hildabeast supporters to go vote?

That seems to be what they made of it at the time, but now that this has been proved wrong at least some of the squandered political capital can now be laundered through "muh Russia." I have to hand it to the DNC, this is quite possibly the most mendaciously flexible narrative they've ever run with.

I imagine the only reason they can get away with it is because their lumpenminority base gets most of it's news from heavily segregated channels, where harmful contradictions can be overlooked, while white liberals themselves are mentally flexible enough to roll with the punches.

Wow. I think somebody might get a tap on the shoulder about this line once Twitter gets ahold of it.

What’s funny is this was a basic bitch conservative/libertarian I’m-not-racist-tier meme like 2 years ago “they’re trying to keep us divided you guys! We need to work together!”

  3. Looks liked somebody’s getting trolled pretty bad over at The Hill.

  4. OT: if you want a laugh, on Twitter, yesterday Noah Smith explained that he is not Jewish

  5. Seriously, how does a country ever return to baseline sane at this point? Is the American empire done? How can anything ever be taken seriously at this point?

We go through Caesarism and the crazies get put in their place/executed. Not fun given all the sociopaths are trying to gain power by competing to out as many people as 'enemies of the people' as possible, but it beats the alternative (year zero).

Btw, shouldn’t progs be praising Russia for giving aid to BLM?

But I suppose when Russia aids BLM, it’s for cynical political machinations whereas when Obama, Hillary, and NYT do it, it’s for the best of intentions than for any political mileage.

It’s like ONLY the progs are praised for anti-war sentiments. When the Right is anti-war, it’s always ignoble… like for ‘isolationism’ than peace.

Next, it’ll be Russia messed with homo dating sites.

But you gotta blame Hillary. She gave them the idea.

  12. I thought Soros was behind BLM ( and Pokemon ).

  13. if the Russian really did want Trump to win the election, supporting BLM was the most effective strategy. Hillary was a fool to support BLM and it backfired on her.

  14. By the way, is The Hill a real news site?

They learned their craft from CNN and the New York Times.

  15. I have said this before here and I will say it again, this is no longer funny. One can laugh at the stupidity of the people that are pushing these ever crazy conspiracy theories, however one cannot laugh at the consequences of these theories, the people pushing this are in the corridors of power and they have shown in the past to start wars and other dire things. These people essentially run the world and I have stopped laughing about this, they are dangerous and they are increasingly becoming crazier.

  17. Only the Democrats and Neocons are more insane and corrupt than the ‘mainstream’ media.

  18. One thing is true. Russians don’t understand the race problem here in America at all. If you judge by RT and other sites, police get up in the morning, have a cup of coffee and then go out and blast a few negroes. Their ignorance – and their refusal to do any simple research – shows me that they are playing up that nonsensical scenario to make the US look bad, not that they need foolishness like that to show America’s ongoing insanity.

When it comes to understanding the dangers of fatherless young black males terrorizing white citizens the Russian press is part of the enemy, sad to say.

This is common to most non-Americans I meet. They are unlikely to get any information about the real situation from anywhere other than Hollywood and CNN/BBC/NYT.

The MSM/Hollywood complex's international narrative dominance with regard to 'what's going on in the USA' is one aspect of their power that hasn't waned much.

I agree, specially in nations with even worse media practices that, due to lacking in research capability or desire, just get their world news sent from AP et al. In the example I know, Trump in Latin American media is pretty much portrayed as CNN, Jorge Ramos, and Carlos Slim would like him to be portrayed. Thus Latin Americans don't understand Trumpism at all, and think that Americans have shown their true inner racist gringo by voting for him; though ironically many Latins have loved and still love far more radical and uncouth leaders at home. (Not to mention, they tend to be more racist, sexist, and sometimes even more xenophobic than the average American.)

That said, there is a difference in the bias that sometimes pops up Russian media. There, as well as in other former or presently socialist countries, it sells to have an anti-American slant. Even RT, as much as it loves Trump, has to cater to the "and you lynch Negroes" market.

As for the PokemonGoGate "news" (of which I learned from Twitter and its selective hashtags, of course), the presence of the terms "likely" and "reportedly linked" mean to me "not really". It is possible that the Russians used such a tactic - however, even if that is the case, foreign propaganda has happened forever, and Hillary pushed (and fed) BLM far more than $4K in Facebook Ads.
