  1. We should also remember that it was 40 years ago this July 4th that the Israelis carried out their masterful hostage rescue in their raid on Entebbe (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Entebbe. The commander Yonatan Netanyahu was the only Israeli killed. He was the older brother of Benjamin Netanyahu who in later years had to sit with scum like Yassir Arafat and pretend that he did not want to put a bullet in Arafat’s head.

How odd you mentioned this. I mentioned Edgar Scherick (produced the Challahwood version of the raid) in another comment thread.

As for Savage Chickens, it's up there on my list with XKCD and sometimes Jesus and Mo.

At least there was no hypocrisy involved, you know, like Israel occupying Palestine.

  4. I hate that comic, because it is oh so witty and sophisticated while being annoyingly correct and concise.

  6. It seems as if projection should be the more or less default approach in human social activity.
After all for the vast majority of human history most everyone you met would have shared the same epistemological framework, hierarchy of goods, and emotional inclinations, since you would be from the same genetic stock and the same culture. In this kind of context projection would have good predictive and explanatory power over time.

Or like the Palestinians pretending they were ever willing to share the space with the Jews, including when they could have had half of it in 1948.

The Google Doodle shows six jumping-up-and-down bitmapped humanoids. Two black, one orange, three pink (one blonde, one ginger, one bespectacled brownhair). Two with long hair.

Here's the MC photo that came in my JPL news dispatch today or yesterday:

    http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/news.php?feature=6558

    From the presser:

"Independence Day always is something to celebrate, but today we can add to America's birthday another reason to cheer -- Juno is at Jupiter," said NASA Administrator Charlie Bolden. "And what is more American than a NASA mission going boldly where no spacecraft has gone before? With Juno, we will investigate the unknowns of Jupiter's massive radiation belts to delve deep into not only the planet's interior, but into how Jupiter was born and how our entire solar system evolved."

Charlie Bolden is •an Obama appointee• with a bachelor's degree. His doctorates are all honorary.

I'd guess that "Juno project manager" Rick Nybakken has at least one actual earned doctorate.

Saw that and was equally struck. 2 women, 2 black, 1 Asian and 1 white male with thick glasses, albeit with some sort of waist-length beard. I'm going to assume that bears no meaningful relationship to the truth.

Why would they want to give away half of what was entirely theirs in the first place?

Tell you what, give me half of everything you own. If you don't, I will kick your ass and take more than half (right of conquest), and then blame you for not taking my original offer. And call you an anti-semite to boot.

    Such a deal!

I think the hardest part of this has to be the waiting. Jupiter is 365 million miles away, so you won't be doing any real time corrections if your burn calculations are wrong; your 2011 ship will be going 1) down to the bottom or 2) off into space.

Very impressive. Should've had radder outfits.

    @Olorin

Google's motto is "Don't be evil", but I guess mis-representing just who got a spacecraft launched in 2011 into orbit around a planet 365 millions miles away using a 35 minute engine burn at just the right moment (they are not commanding this spacecraft in real time) to slow its speed from 165,284 mph to 1,212 mph is ok, because it sends the message that it could've been these diversities that did it had the evil white patriarchy given them the chance. And the white woman in the picture doesn't count.

There's an old joke about socialism with a related structure - maybe you've already laughed by now - - anyhow - it goes likes this:

A rich guy and a poor guy - both socialists - agree upon sharing the wealth.
Rich guy gets along quite well with his half, poor guy is soon miserable.
Occationally they meet. The miserable one has the solution: " Wow, comrade, you're still rich! We should share again!"
