From the New York Times:
Obama Warns of Growing Mistrust Between Minorities and Police
By JULIE HIRSCHFELD DAVIS JULY 14, 2016WASHINGTON — President Obama on Thursday defended the Black Lives Matter movement and said the legacy of racial conflict in the United States had driven dangerous mistrust between the police and minority communities.
Notice that Obama and the NYT are framing this as minorities — not just blacks — versus, implicitly, whites. You could at least as validly divvy it up as blacks vs. nonblacks (e.g., Minnesota shooter cop Jeronimo Yanez), but then where’s the KKKrazy Glue to hold together the Coalition of the Fringes?
In an hourlong televised event just days after a series of fatal confrontations between police officers and African-Americans, Mr. Obama grasped for solutions by promoting a broad dialogue on race and reconciliation. He said officers were being asked to do too much in disadvantaged communities and not thanked often enough. But he argued that they must do more to address implicit prejudice that can feed violent clashes.
Implicit prejudice is original sin. Everybody is guilty (if they are a cishet white male Republican. But due to intersectionality, you can catch Pokemon Points to stop being guilty by, say, becoming woke and voting for Hillary, who is a woman.)
“Because of the history of our country and because of the images we receive when we’re growing up, et cetera, oftentimes there’s a presumption that black men are dangerous, so that has to be worked through,” Mr. Obama said during the town hall-style conversation, which was aired by ABC.
I love the “et cetera” in that sentence. As I’ve often said, Obama takes a lawyerly pride in misleading while Not Quite Lying. Thus, the “et cetera” can cover things like:
— The fact that black men really do commit a wildly disproportionate number of dangerous crimes.
— The crime data collected and, reluctantly, published by the Obama Administration.
— Et cetera, et cetera …
While he insisted that protests must be peaceful, Mr. Obama countered criticism of activists in the Black Lives Matter movement, which has been accused by some of implying that the lives of African-Americans are more important than those of others.
“The phrase ‘Black Lives Matter’ simply refers to the notion that there’s a specific vulnerability for African-Americans that needs to be addressed,” Mr. Obama said. “It’s not meant to suggest that other lives don’t matter; it’s to suggest that other folks aren’t experiencing this particular vulnerability.”
Which is why they go insane with rage whenever anybody says “All lives matter.”
Even as Mr. Obama sought to encourage a civil conversation, the anger and frustration of activists and advocates on both sides was apparent.
After the taping ended, Erica Garner, the daughter of Eric Garner, who died in 2014 after a New York City police officer placed him in a chokehold, became angry inside the theater where it took place. After yelling that she had been deprived of a chance to question Mr. Obama, she demanded — and later received — a private audience with the president.
“I was railroaded!” Ms. Garner shouted, noting that the event fell two years after her father’s death. “That’s what I have to do? A black person has to yell to be heard?”
Later, Ms. Garner took to Twitter to complain that tough questions had been banned. She condemned the event as a “farce” that was “nothing short of full exploitation of black pain and grief.”
“They shut out ALL real and hard questions,” Ms. Garner added, calling the exchange “a sham.”
Reporters who had been allowed into the theater where the meeting was taped witnessed the outburst, which Mr. Obama’s staff swiftly tried to defuse. Josh Earnest, the White House press secretary, later said that the president had visited briefly with Ms. Garner, “who was upset that she didn’t get called on to ask a question.”
Earlier, during the event, Mr. Obama became visibly cross and responded tartly after Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick of Texas questioned whether the president was doing enough to support law enforcement. Mr. Patrick admonished him to “consider being careful” with his words after police confrontations so that he does not reflexively blame the officers.
“Words matter — your words matter,” Mr. Patrick said. “Put on the blue lights,” he added, noting that the president had bathed the White House in colorful lights in the past to honor other groups.
“I have been unequivocal in condemning any rhetoric directed at police officers,” Mr. Obama said, offering to send Mr. Patrick copies of his comments on the subject. “I appreciate the sentiment; I think it’s already being expressed.”
In other words: No Blue Lights while Barack Obama is in the White House.
The meeting was the latest in a series of events Mr. Obama has participated in this week to respond to killings in Louisiana and Minnesota of black men by police officers, and an attack days later in Dallas in which a black assailant claiming he wanted to kill white officers fatally shot five.
Mr. Obama shared his experiences
I bet he did.
of growing up the black son of a single mother as he tried to model the kind of conversation that he has argued must take place throughout the country to defuse tensions.
“Conversation” increasingly mean I talk, you listen.
Those rifts, he conceded this week, are likely to worsen before they improve.
“There’s a greater presumption of dangerousness” when it comes to black men, the president said. “It’s not as bad as it used to be, but it’s still there.”
Indoctrinating the commoners in Reality Denialism must be our highest national priority.

of growing up the black son of a single mother
You mentioned Obama’s rhetorical sleights of hand and deceit. Obama wants people to walk away with the impression that he was the black son of a black single mother, when in reality, his “single” mother was white, and she wasn’t always single during little Barry’s childhood. Also, the only reason he’s the “black” son of a single mother is the one drop rule. However, this black child of a black single mother has a lot of street cred. Which is why he’s peddling it, trying to identify with the N’Deshawntaviouses who are the sons of single mama Shaniqua.

Yeah, the only reason the son of a coal black African is considered black is because of the one drop rule.
Dude, that's retarded.
If all of Obama ancestors for the last 100 years were otherwise white, but back in the 1880s one of his grandmothers married a black guy, yet we still called Obama black, that would be because of the one drop rule.
Mulattos aren't "black and white" and they're not white.
They're black.
White people have always considered mulattoes to be black. Not white, and not "black and white."
Let me guess - you're a "kinist", right? One of those very confused rainbow right-wingers who say that Obama is black and white, and so if he had married a white woman it wouldn't be interracial marriage.
Kinists are the only "race realists" I've ever encountered who claim that mulattoes are both black and white.
There used to be a right wing radio show on the air with the unbelievably stupid name of The Political Cesspool. I listened to it despite the name, until 2008, when Obama was running for president. Every week the co-host, who went by Winston Smith, IIRC, would say something to the effect of "I'm sick and tired of the lamestream media calling Barack Obama black. He's white, too!!!"
And Smith was always promoting kinism.
So I tuned out. Whatever "kinism" is, I want no part of it.
I hope this blog doesn't become a gathering place of kinist types.
Now Obama doesn’t care anymore and has gone full “fuck whitey”, white people who voted for him as “post racial” (remember that?) must feel like dopes. You got played.
Erica Garner isn’t as educated or polysyllabic as a lot of the Black Lives Matters advocates, but I listened to a short interview with her on Brian Lehrer’s show and came away very sympathetic to her for a few reasons:
A) Her brother’s story is probably the saddest of all of these.
B) She actually spent some time talking about some (putatively racially blind) methods that could conceivably, possibly, reduce police homicides.
C) I think she actually cares about the issue, rather than just seeing it as a way to get more Diversity Czar jobs for black Yale grads and get white 20-somethings to pull the knob for Hillary in the Fall out of guilt. You’ll notice that her behavior here is the biggest downside to the event for Obama/Hillary, because as ghetto as she’s arguably acting, she’s entirely correct that it was a farce that is exploiting pain and grief for political ends.
The rainbow White House reminds me of what I saw in San Diego this past week. The preparations for today’s “Pride” Parade in the Hillcrest neighborhood were amazingly over the top. Every shop on Fifth Avenue (and many surrounding streets) had, at the least, a rainbow pennant in its window–and many had much more. It reminded me of nothing so much as Vaclav Havel’s 1978 essay “The Power of the Powerless”:
Trendy San Diego was like a foreign country to me this week: I’ve never felt as un-at-home in any place in America as I did there the past few days.
A whopping 78 percent of White Evangelicals say they will vote for Donald Trump.
http://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/07/14/us/donald-trump-white-evangelical-voters-poll.html
White Evangelicals are the only subgroup of Whites who vote in a racial bloc that favors the political Right.
Before someone asks what about White Southerners, they are basically the same thing. Most White Evangelicals reside in the South.
If Europe had a large White Evangelical population, you would have a lot more Right Wing Whites in countries like Sweden and Germany for example. On average a disbelief in God makes Whites more Left Wing.
An Atheist ideology is bad for the survival of the White race. Evangelical Whites breed more kids than Atheist Whites.
I have never met an Atheist married White couple who breed lot of kids.
Typical average White Atheists are people like George Clooney and Greg Gutfeld for example, who are both in their 50s and they still can not claim to be someone’s father. Their semen have yet to create life.
Northern Ireland where I'm from is different; evangelical Protestantism there is right-wing, as it is with the descendants (cultural & real) of the Ulstermen in Scots-Irish USA.Replies: @Millennial
There is still more political conservatism among the Evangelical rank-and-file than among Mainline Protestants. However, once the left took over Mainline Protestantism, the membership (and influence) of Mainline denominations shrank dramatically.
I suspect that Evangelicals are beginning to feel a kind of alienation from the people running their denominations. Given what has happened to the Mainline churches, this does not bode well for the the future of Evangelicalism as an institution of American life.Replies: @Nico, @Nico
I see Sabrina Fulton ( Trayvon’s ‘mom’) is to speak at the Democratic Convention despite that whole dog and pony show having been shown to be a lie. That is the ‘dialogue’ the president needs to have. To explain to blacks that the truth matters. That they can’t expect everyone else to just lay back and take it to make blacks happy. Of course that would demoralize blacks and affect voter turnout so the president won’t do it.
I mean it is true that none of us were there besides two people, one of whom is dead. And I can't blame his mom for wanting to believe he dindu nuffin. But Zimm got acquitted despite the best efforts of organized black supremacy, so to give her a spot at a national convention is outrageous. This is really nothing less than a declaration of war against nonblacks.Replies: @Harry Baldwin, @tbraton, @AnotherDad

How often does the Cupertino, Irvine, Carmel Valley, and San Marino PD have “shots fired” events? The police there, paid $150,000 plus pension and other benefits adding another $75,000, have The Ultimate Civil Service Job. It isn’t quite as good as being drafted by the Yankees, but on the other hand your risk of painful permanent injury is much lower working the Irvine PD than MLB.

This idea that he personally can do something about the proliferation of late-night traffic stops, evil eye from kwiki-mart owners, et cetera, et cetera, has become a desideratum for Obama. Too bad there is no one earthbound close by to whisper in his ear that some things are not within mere mortal Presidents’ power to change much.
I work very near to Dupont Circle in Washington, one of the gayest neighborhoods in the country, and I’ve never seen anything like I saw in Hillcrest.

It is similar to how black leaders coined the phrase ‘people of color’ to lump blacks into a huge pool of people ranging from blacks to mestizos to the Chinese. Even though many so-called people of color have more in common with whites, or at least want to live among whites, and want nothing to do with blacks at all.

Obama must be counting the days until his next mission, and hoping that there won’t be any more outbreaks of community organizer news to tarnish his luster further. The objectivity and candor that people seek from their President was sadly lacking in what was at times an infuriating spectacle. Even a lapdog like ABC host David Muir could sense the frustration in the audience, and sense how so many television viewers would feel about the lack of a more evenhanded perspective.

Is BLM a divide and conquer movement? Because they seem devoted to telling non blacks outright (and heavily implying to non Af-Am blacks) that police power really isn’t their problem.
A lot of non Af-Ams, including many whites, have problems with the police. But, as moronic and True Believer-y as the membership seems to be, at the very least there are probably people who are not entirely unhappy at the ghettoization of the topic.
Think of it like when Jack Straw said he was going to rub the right's nose in diversity. BLM both agitates and humiliates. You can't negotiate with them, you can only hope they either burn out or enough of their supporters jump the shark on being anti-white.
I notice NYT has become more partisan, than say, 10 years ago. They’re right off the meter on anything to do with blacks.

If the images we received while growing up were really the thing, then we’d expect blacks to all be rocket surgeons, computer geniuses, saints, judges, police captains, generals, presidents, God, etc. Hey, maybe that’s the problem; the whitewashing leftist corporate media fills whites with high expectations for blacks, and when they turn out to just be knuckleheads, we find them disappointing.
Or maybe Hussein was referring to the images received by non-blacks who grow up cheek-to-jowl with large black populations, images which contrast sharply with those propagated in the LCM.
Yes.
And BLM could have cleared this up right from the start, given a modicum of introspection, by adding “Too” to the end of their title. “Black Lives Matter Too” would make the supposed meaning pretty clear (and it elicits more sympathy). But then black nationalist racists couldn’t chant it and ignore the implied “too”; they couldn’t think “Black Lives Matter, and the rest don’t,” because their slogan would explicitly contradict their interpretation. It would have lost the wink-wink double utility, its differing meaning for genuine civil rights activists on one hand, and racist black nationalists on the other.
Well, a black with name recognition, anyway. I suppose the rest of us might be more likely to get arm-locked and tazed for yelling at president Hussein.
I think Hussein took a look at the Clinton Foundation and decided it’s a pretty sweet gig. He probably wants in on that action. I bet this has occurred to the Clintons, so, no, I don’t think she’ll be throwing him any bones once he’s out of office. Trump, on the other hand, would have made a great foil for ex-president Hussein. But given the result of the emailgate investigations, it doesn’t look like Barry was willing to do what it took to get there. Maybe he’s got something else planned.
Which is even more difficult than being a rocket scientist.
"Maybe he’s got something else planned."
He & Moo are staying in DC. He's not going anywhere. He will give up formal power, but he'll be the shadow Black President For Life, shit stirring until Kingdom Come. Whoever is elected president will find him a royal pain in the ass.
I think I've figured out Obama's game. He doesn't want the country to fall apart and some apocalyptic scenario to happen. That would be bad for business. But he does want more police murders so that whites become visibly upset by the idea of blacks running around with AR15s. I have to admit, it alarms me. Moderate Republican whites will demand gun control. This is his way of manipulating what he can't get by straightforward means. He's pretty clever.
Also—and forgive me for stereotyping, of course!—I get the feeling (based on their film titles, rap CD liner notes, etc.) that the "to/two/too/2/II" distinction is lost on many blacks. Certainly enough of them to make a difference if slogan-writing's your bag.

One of the side goals of all this is to have fewer white cops.
Whereas at the Republican convention, when the parent of a dead black kid is scheduled to speak, it is someone whose kid was killed by an illegal alien gangbanger who should not have been in the country. I think the point goes to the GOP on this one.

Yes, and here's my take on that. Two factors are proportional to their aggressive and stupid defensiveness. 1) The greater a POTUS fucks up, the greater his original supporters defend him; 2) the more the media defends and obfuscates for a POTUS, the more his original supporters defend him.
The same factors were in play with Bush 2. The big difference, of course, was that the press was ready and willing to attack Bush and the attacks were delivered with glee when pics of the woman soldier with an Iraqi prisoner on a leash appeared.

I went to a majority negro high school in Hampton, VA. It was total hell. I saw several of my friends taken away in ambulances for the sin of being white. I endured several assaults myself. Notice that law-abiding Blacks are having their hostility directed towards the police for hassling them, rather than the true source of the problem: the Black criminals that have established the stereotype. Conveniently, this leads to calls for the police to change, not the Black community.
My perception is that there's an enormous amount of regional and local variation in the extent that the cops pull people over.
The only time I ever got a speeding ticket was for going flagrantly over the speed limit on a road known for deadly car accidents.
Yet I know people who live in different areas of the country who say that cops frequently pull people over for minor traffic violations that don't pose any sort of safety risk. It's just the way the local government is funded.
This leads to blacks feeling persecuted, because they know from conventional wisdom that it's pretty rare to get pulled over, but they happen to live in a speed trap/ticket mill area where it's very common.

“[…] Also like Trump, she clearly is happy and enjoying herself.” – Except she has few orders larger vocabulary than Trump.
Here’s another point about Obama that people tend to forget. He had an older male figure around the house in his developmental years to enforce discipline, unlike a lot of black sons of single mothers. Lolo Soetoro and Obama’s Dunham grandfather don’t get any credit for civilizing Obama so he didn’t turn out to be a black criminal.
Obama has always been tone-deaf and awkward when he tries to talk to “the American People.” The crazy stuff he was saying about the Bowe Bergdahl case just left me shaking my head. But what do you expect from a guy who’s spent his whole life either outside America or on its very fringes?
That's because he really doesn't consider himself to be one of us.
When I worked in an ad agency, a new creative director was brought in. With her came a handful of cronies from her previous job, and some people at our agency were laid off to make room for them. Okay, I could understand that, she needed some of her friends around and the people who were laid off were dead wood. However, as time went by, the lay-offs continued and she was bringing in people to whom she had no previous connection. I realized it wasn't enough that we hold-overs were doing a good job, she could never be comfortable with us. We had been there before she arrived, had some institutional memory, knew how things had been done, might question her judgment and leadership. To her, it was better to bring in fresh new people who would be beholding to her and unable to compare her leadership to what we had previously.
I mention this because that's what Obama and the open-borders crowd want for this country.
This is the one aspect of BLM that is correct. It is a problem specific to the black community and stating Black Lives Matter is merely to draw attention to this fact – to refer to the cartoon about this issue going around, it’s like saying “my house is on fire” when it is, indeed, burning. It doesn’t mean other houses don’t matter. They just aren’t burning now. SO, there is nothing wrong with drawing special attention tot he burning house and ignoring the others.
Of course, everything else BLM claims is tragically wrong. To continue with the burning house analogy, the BLM solution is to stupidly attack the firemen. Because they happen to be around when a fire occurs, they do stuff like breaking down doors with axes, etc. The fires are their fault. Let’s attack the firemen, harass them, and keep them from doing their job. Will more people die of fires then? Too bad. Let’s overlook the pattern of falling asleep high with a lit cigarette dropped in a pile of newspapers lying on the shag carpet, nothing can be done about that.
If BLM and its supporters were actual leaders on this issue, they would keep it real and focus on crime and its causes, such as broken homes, glorification of antisocial behavior in the subculture, tolerance and coddling of criminals, and yes some longstanding legacy of racism and oppression. But doing that is hard, it’s much easier to demonize the cops who have nothing to do with the problem, other than fixing its consequences.
It's not that they're saying their house is on fire. They're saying they have a garage full of oily rags, which means a fire at their house is intrinsically more dangerous than the fire at the white next door neighbor's. But they don't have oily rags. Someone made that up.Replies: @AP

Very true; lived in Southern California for 15 years, chances of getting traffic ticket was fairly moderate. Now I am in Portland, Oregon, on the West side (of the Willamette river) for over 10 years now. I read about police shootings on East side all the time; but the only time I see police or sheriff here is when there are accidents or other emergencies. Zero interest in ticketing for money. I speed just like anyone else but the only ticket I got was from a camera.
If the residents would bother to get jobs, then no one would have to use excessive ticket-issuing to raise revenue. It's the residents' fault, pure and simple. As I recall, the reason Trayvon was staying with his father in Orlando was that his mother couldn’t handle the young thug in Miami where she and Trayvon lived and asked her former husband to take Trayvon off her hands. It’s interesting that these young blacks who get killed in one of these high-profile cases are worth more to their parents dead than alive. I believe the City of Baltimore conferred $6.5 million on the parents of Freddy Gray, which is a hell of a lot more than that drug hustler could have made in his lifetime even if he lived to 100. I wonder if Hillary has hit on Trayvon’s mom to make a donation to the Clinton Foundation.

The cop’s body camera video makes it seem much less disturbing (in terms of police behavior – it was obviously a tragedy). It was probably suicide by cop.
And the final shotgun blast seemed gratuitous. Once you're shot, it's probably hard to control your writhing.
I would be worried, however, that "suicide by cop" is a way of dismissing what is a real problem in the US.
I do not agree with the left, Obama, and BLM that there is a problem with racist cops not preserving the lives of blacks. But I do agree that there is a problem with cops being too quick to shoot.
Obviously, self-protection is a reasonable reason to shoot, but the main purpose of the police is the protection of the populace, not the apprehension of criminals.
I didn't watch this video, but I have seen a bunch of other videos in which I did not think the officer was justified in shooting.
We honor the police because of the risk they take, not because they apprehend criminals. Justice for the wronged and against the criminal can be administered without a police force. But it is a police force that we expect to put their lives on the line to protect and serve. When the risk inherent in the job is diminished to a great extent by an itchy trigger finger, the police do--and ought to--lose the special respect they have traditionally been awarded.Replies: @Chrisnonymous
All of the pro-BLM politicians and media commentators try to put some “equality” in their remarks by saying that they are saddened by the deaths of Alton Sterling, Philandro Castile, and 5 Dallas Police Officers. Sad and telling that Sterling and Castile are acknowledged as individual named human beings and the 5 Police Officers merely acknowledged by their employment, no mention, never any mention, of the their individual names or personhood. BLM is best understood as an anti-white movement to both induce white guilt, and energize black turnout for the Democrats. Under the rules of the Narrative, any white resistance to insane SJW ideas is automatically the worst secular sin possible.
Think of it like when Jack Straw said he was going to rub the right’s nose in diversity. BLM both agitates and humiliates. You can’t negotiate with them, you can only hope they either burn out or enough of their supporters jump the shark on being anti-white.

Obama shared his experience, common to black children, of growing up with a single white mother who was able to send him to elite prep schools, Columbia, and Harvard Law.

And another point: his exposure to black people at all was near 0 until he went to college, and to Black Folks- not “people of color”, not “African Americans”-we’re talking Baalaaaaack Folks– was close to that number until he moved to Chicago.
That’s exactly what the LGTBBQASAPers do, too. We know it’s run by gays, but they pretend every other sexual perversion is with them, too. I wonder why they let lesbos have the first letter. Dylan Noble was White enough that his killing by a White police officer is not being labeled by the mainstream media as racist.
What’s happening now with the Democratic party is the same thing that happened to the MSM after the advent of Fox News and the online conservative media. Now that Trump is clearly standing up for white Americans in a way no candidate has since Reagan (“Cadillac driving welfare queens,” anyone? What a phrase), the Democrats are losing white voters at the margin and must explicitly become the black party (or minority, as Steve pointed out they would prefer) to make up for lost whites. In reality, the Democrats have been the black /minority party for a long time, but until now a lot of working class and socially conservative whites were either stupid enough not to know it or thought Democrats’ unionism was more important. Those marginal whites are being lost because there is an explicit alternative, so Democrats must double down in such a way that the mask slips.
Similarly, when Fox News provided an explicitly conservative alternative to the MSM, the MSM lost all pretense of being neutral starting ~2003. Most people now understand that considering NBC, CBS, or ABC’s news divisions unbiased is laughable because they are so nakedly partisan. Back in the ’90s, when they could be more subtle with their misdirection because there was no alternative, there was a much more compelling appearance of neutrality among the MSM.
The Sailer strategy would have exploited this dynamic a decade ago but the GOPe was too corrupt and stupid to realize it. The underlying forces are so powerful that the Democrats-as-black-party is now coming about of its own inertia.
If he were biracial I’m sure Shaun King would be all over it.
You’re wrong, because there is no “specific vulnerability” of blacks to police violence. Except in the sense that they’re more likely to commit crimes, but that’s not the vulnerability Obama’s wants to talk about. They want to talk about bad feelz.

I would guess that I am not alone in thinking that I no longer give a flying f**k what our stuttering, jumped-up, talentless, non-entity of a “President” thinks. Clearly, having as chief executive of your county a guy who despises that country is a bad idea. And Barack Obama clearly hates the actual, existing country known as the U.S.A.
Exactly. He's the first anti-American president of the United States of America.
Even worse, he never really bothered to hide it. He knew he didn't have to. He could be as tone-deaf as he liked ("bitterly clinging", talking about the price of articular, etc., etc.). He knew that not only would his base stand by him, they liked him even more for being contemptuous of real Americans.
I knew that when I listened to his infamous speech at the Dem convention back in 2004. As for “minorities”, note how they have learned the smart trick to include “women.”
e.g. when pushing anti-white racism, they increase their chances of success by targetting “white men”.
Thus they have unaware white women join their ranks, and works, in fact, again themselves.

Anyway, in defense of Obama’s “et cetera” elision, he did eventually acknowledge how dangerous black Americans are compared to the general population: when responding to a question/comment from Milwaukee’s Chief of Police (white), Obama took it upon himself to point out that 51% of US homicide victims are black, and that- as is usually the case, he said- the perpetrators tend to come from the same demographic group as their victims.
I don’t think Trump or Clinton could get away with shoehorning such hatefacts into an answer at a mostly black town hall meeting, and I don’t think Obama is uttering these uncomfortable truths about race and crime just because he can. I think it’s possible that he knows- as much as any of us do- exactly what’s going on. Maybe he just has no f*cking idea what to do about it.
(…that wouldn’t affect his post-presidency speaking fees.)
That's just reverse causality B.S. He's spinning it as an unfortunate artifact of Black victimization. Primarily we have Black over representation as victims, secondarily as a statistical artifact we have Black over representation as perpetrators. One might think the causality arrow goes in the other direction,of course, but that just means one accepts the crimethink that Blacks have agency.

Perhaps Executive Editor Mr. Baquet has something to do with the racial emphasis.
From Wikipedia:
“Baquet has been the Executive Editor of The New York Times since June 2, 2011. According to Baquet’s colleagues, he prefers to be known as a Creole, as opposed to African-American. His brother, Terry, has stated, “Creole in New Orleans is Black. We’re descendants of Haitians. We’re Black; Creole is not a race.”
Nor is it unusual that his brother sees things differently - it's a common part of family dynamics for different siblings to consciously define themselves in different ways - if brother Dean says he is creole, the other brother says he is black.

Was she expecting Vermont style Liberalism to be all about Black bodies 24/7?
Increasingly American blacks do seem to think that everything in the country is all about them, first and foremost because the intelligentsia openly encourages this mindset. The tendency is exacerbated by the homogenous, urban and enclaved residence of so many American blacks, as well as their dismal average level of cognitive power and flexibility. You'll find lots of folks in slums and PJs who have never been outside the five-mile radius in which they were born. Even if they do get out it is often too little, too late. All this results in most American blacks having an extremely limited perception of the context of their existence.
Furthermore, as Fred Reed has explained multiple times, in such conditions it's very easy even for blacks who know that they are a minority to not stop and consider what the fact that whites are still holding all the cards will mean if the current intelligentsia is shattered, or if open race war should break out.

OT: Jeb!!! Bush had a piece in the Washington Post the other day in which he said “I haven’t decided how I’ll vote in November — whether I’ll support the Libertarian ticket or write in a candidate.” It’s understandable that he could be having problems trying to answer that question since I recall it took him about a week to answer the question of whether the Iraq War was a good idea after having about eight years to prepare an answer. Besides, I could swear Jeb!!! was one of those Republican candidates who was asked during one of the debates whether he would support the eventual nominee of the Republican Party, and he said “yes.” I think the Bush family is in a race with Mitt Romney to see who can discredit himself more in the eyes of the Republican Party.
Yes. That was striking to me. It suggests infinite arrogance. Cops are just cannon fodder. Why even recognize them by name.
I am surprised the president came to Dallas to speak. I was expecting a walkout or similar.

As someone who’s never even been to New York, I never thought Trump sounded Jewish at all. His Rs are too hard, and his voice isn’t either nasal or gravelly.
Of course, this could be related to the fact that he’s never smoked or drank alcohol, though I admit I’m not sophisticated enough at this stuff to know what the connection is.
He also does that thing that I associate with blue-collar people where, at the end of a sentence, he’ll hold his mouth for a second in the position it was when he finished talking. I’ve never seen a Jewish person do that, but I could be wrong.
Donald Trump's speaking style is reminiscent of Larry David playing George Steinbrenner on Seinfeld. Of course, Steinbrenner was German-American, not Jewish, but he, David, and Trump came from roughly the same linguistic milieu.Replies: @Gunnar von Cowtown

Simple solution: bar white men from being cops.
White boys have had 500 years I affirmative action so it would be fair
Besides demographic change is coming
That’s an interesting way to describe a series of events in which two black guys were killed by cops in what the cops had reason to believe was self-defense, and a bunch of cops getting murdered by black in cold blood by blacks.
“Obama took it upon himself to point out that 51% of US homicide victims are black, and that- as is usually the case, he said- the perpetrators tend to come from the same demographic group as their victims.”
That’s just reverse causality B.S. He’s spinning it as an unfortunate artifact of Black victimization. Primarily we have Black over representation as victims, secondarily as a statistical artifact we have Black over representation as perpetrators. One might think the causality arrow goes in the other direction,of course, but that just means one accepts the crimethink that Blacks have agency.
Steinbrenner had the advantage of being a guy they could bring out only when he was going to be saying something hilarious, rather than being someone who had to at least seem like someone who was also just going about his regular day.
Sort of like J Peterman. Or Puddy, who, incidentally, also never sounded Jewish to me.

Not too long ago, but he was white.
It's an example of the tendency of white people to just suck it up and accept unfair treatment backfiring, because it just leads to blacks feeling like they're getting a unique raw deal from society.Replies: @anon, @Anon
If the local government has to fund itself via traffic tickets, that means it doesn’t have a viable tax base. And it if doesn’t have a tax base, it means the majority of the residents are on welfare, and they’re a massive draw on the resources of the local government.
If the residents would bother to get jobs, then no one would have to use excessive ticket-issuing to raise revenue. It’s the residents’ fault, pure and simple. You can’t pay for services on absolutely nothing. Those traffic tickets black whine and complain about are helping fund the welfare that blacks live on.
Ferguson will be over 70 percent Black by the time the 2020 U.S census rolls around.
You can't have a viable tax base in a city that is over 70 percent Black. Don't listen to Wesley Snipes, never bet on Black.
The Left says diversity is our strength, but they never specifically say Blackness is our strength. Blackness doesn't pay the bills, keep the lights on, maintain our roads & other infrastructure, etc because there is not much of a tax base in Chocolate cities.Replies: @hygelac

It’s interesting that Obama does not seem to have a wandering eye like his daddy at all. Either he lives in mortal fear of Michelle or deep down he is not really interest in girls. Bill Clinton definitely inherited HIS (real) father Blythe’s roving tendencies.
Bill's real father was almost certainly a local physician that his mother worked as a nurse for. Blythe was just the cover story, conveniently dead anyway by the time Bill was born, and thus it should come as no surprise that Bill had no sentimental attachment to the name when it seemed usefulti change it to a stepfather's.
Not only will Jeb! not vote for Trump but he is going to persuade his voter base not to do so either. Fortunately for Trump, his voter base consists of Columba, George, Noelle and Jeb Jr. so it will probably not sway the election.
I used to scoff at the people who said that we did not have two parties in America but basically 1 party with 2 different factions. In our leadership class, that turned out to be true. The Washington Generals didn’t mind losing to the Globetrotters every week but if they had to play the Cavs they would have been horrified.

To Obama, the American people are “The Other.” He wants us to embrace The Other–the LGBTs, the Syrian refugees, Mexican illegals, the ghetto blacks–because “that’s who we are.” But those groups, who represent the fringe to most of us, are actually the people with whom Obama is comfortable. It’s core America that makes him queasy.
I realized it wasn’t enough that we hold-overs were doing a good job, she could never be comfortable with us. We had been there before she arrived, had some institutional memory, knew how things had been done, might question her judgment and leadership. To her, it was better to bring in fresh new people who would be beholding to her and unable to compare her leadership to what we had previously.
I mention this because that’s what Obama and the open-borders crowd want for this country.

Is Obama psychotic -totally delusional, completely impervious to and estranged from objective reality- or is he a liar? I can’t read minds but my guess is that he’s both a liar and a psychotic.
During the 2008 campaign, I asked myself, "Is Obama naive or just a shameless liar?" I soon came down on the latter. Like many successful politicians, when Obama is asked a question he doesn't concern himself with whether or not his answer is true; he doesn't even necessarily say things that he sincerely believes. He simply decides what would be the most useful answer to give at that moment in order to accomplish his purposes. He knows that if it is later exposed as a lie, there will be no consequences; e.g., "If you like your plan, you can keep your plan."Replies: @Kylie, @Forbes

That would seem to argue in the other direction – Baquet wasn’t even listed among the “black” staffers of the LA Times until he was promoted to the head, because he did not self-identify as black. Then the “black” team claimed him as one of their own.
Nor is it unusual that his brother sees things differently – it’s a common part of family dynamics for different siblings to consciously define themselves in different ways – if brother Dean says he is creole, the other brother says he is black.

Clearly he rarely goes inside the courthouses where he shoots his exterior shots on Centre Street. But shootings over drugs, street robberies and drunken fights over nonsense don’t make for good television, and nobody wants to film anything above 96th Street nor in Lower East Side housing projects.
If you watch the first season of Law & Order, that's basically what it was. The ratings weren't very high, so that's why they went on to more "interesting" cases.
But people have been watching Cops for all these years, because it's still on. So is The First 48. So I don't know. Those shows are probably cheaper to make, so it's easier for them to be profitable.

Yes, and here’s my take on that.

Also, I run into a lot of guys who talk like Patrick Warburton. Probably about a third of the guys who come by my place to repair things sound like him, for example.
Surely they would cast Milo Yiannopoulos for that part.

Peter Brimelow's description a few years ago of the contrast between what Steve calls the Fringes and the Core: "It's Anti-America versus America."
A) Her brother's story is probably the saddest of all of these.
You'll notice that her behavior here is the biggest downside to the event for Obama/Hillary, because as ghetto as she's arguably acting, she's entirely correct that it was a farce that is exploiting pain and grief for political ends.Replies: @WhatEvvs, @Chip Smith
Eric Garner’s death (I would call it a homicide) still strikes me as the most unambiguously inexcusable of the high-profile cases under discussion. He was talking, and then he was choked to death. I’m inclined to think Sailer has a point in noting that the NYC context may account for the relative lack of coverage in this case. It may even account for Erica Garner’s exclusion from the townhall event. Manhattan power brokers prefer their riots at a safe distance.

Unquestionably true and I wish to God many of the more doggedly-parochial of the folks on our side could simply concede this and move on. Re the Baton Rouge shooter hitting 7 cops and killing at least 3 (according to early reports), I’ll be interested to find out how a 911 call about a guy walking down the highway clad in black and a mask carrying an “assault rifle” produces that result.
BLM makes me think of Bowel Movement.
He was not “choked to death”. He was a 500 lb man with a history of heart attacks who died because he suffocated himself being so fat.
Steve you woman approve my posts.
Were the officers unaware of this man's size and the attendant health risks?
Garner was doing nothing illegal or provocative. Yet he was placed in a choke hold, and shortly after he said "I can't breathe," he died. In other words, he was choked to death. If you don't believe your lying eyes, that's not my problem.Replies: @Cryptogenic, @anon, @SPMoore8, @Jack Hanson
This elite delusion / lie that there’s any tangible connection between ISIS and these Muslims committing atrocities is getting shopworn.
ISIS is just a brand to terrorists like Mohamed in Nice or Omar in Orlando. It’s the Nike swoosh of Muslim terrorism. Obama poses something of a conundrum in terms of his ethnicity. On the one hand, he can rightfully claim that he is the first person of “African-American” descent to be elected president in as much as the father was born in Africa (Kenya) and his mother was born in America. On the other hand, it cannot be said, strictly speaking, that he is the first “black” president in as much as his mother was Caucasian (of Englis descent, with a smattering of Irish I believe). Traditionally, lineage is traced through the mother rather than the father, in which case the argument can be made that he is more European-Caucasian than he is African. So about all that can be said on this subject is that Obama is the first Person of Color (mulatto?) to be elected president. Hopefully he will be the last.

Much of the “white” vote is channeled into the religious vote because it is the next closest tribe you can belong to without explicitly claiming to be white. We all want to be around people just like us but that is much harder to do if you are white because of the repression. This is why people are coming out of the woodwork to support Trump. They don’t have to wait until Sunday to hope someone will advocate for who they are and what they believe in. Church is also a cultural organization. My own tribe, the Episcopalians, have become so cucked out that the only difference between the Church hierarchy and the DNC is that they are worse.

The impression I get from cops (I read cop forums occasionally) is that highly-paid cops are much more aggressive about enforcing the law, while lower-paid cops are much less so. This definitely fits my own experience. We have very low-paid cops in my area, and I see multiple drunks weaving about on the roads every time I go out late at night. Multiple, seriously-impaired drivers, EVERY time, even if I’m only driving for a few miles. People don’t get that blase about drunk-driving unless they’re not particularly worried about getting pulled over. I was driving late night not too long ago, and found myself braced by seriously drunk drivers, one directly in front, one directly behind.
So yes, I agree, the level of policing varies widely by region.
Was Obama giving blacks license to kill cops in his BLM Townhall?
Please elaborate.
He still ended up in a gang. The Choom Gang.

We are now dealing with two terrorist movements. Obviously, we have been dealing with Islamic terrorists for years. But now we have had two mass murder ambushes of police along with several other less deadly, probably less well planned anti-police attacks. This mass murder in Baton Rouge was preceded by the arrests of a group planning to attack cops in Baton Rouge. So, apparently one planned attack was thwarted and this is the second in this one fairly small city.
OT —had to say it–Patrick Warburton…from this woman’s POV, a gorgeous man. (I first fell in lust with him when I saw him with his shirt off in a bedroom scene with Elaine. He is my ideal/fantasy of the perfect physical specimen of a man. )
So, actually, it’s not ethno-masochism 🙂
It’s virtue signalling and white subgroup behavior.
They are signalling that they are not like those other knuckle-dragging whites from West Virginia and elsewhere who believe in reality, they believe in the power of magic dirt and pixie dust to transform.
To preserve the coherence of that viewpoint, they have to believe in the Evil White People Who Are Preventing The Other From Being United In Grace With Us thesis.
K, so now the headlines say 1 suspect is dead, 2 at large. If that turns out to be correct, then this was very likely black racists who set up an ambush.
Are you joking/trolling? He had a heart attack; he wasn’t choked. Eric Garner’s case is the LEAST ambiguous.
Hey, we made blacks kill a bunch of cops again. We need to stop doing that.
Hawaii is probably the only state were adolescent blacks are not physically dominant. The native Hawaiian and Samoans are not only larger but have greater numbers.
So now at least three cops have been killed in Baton Rouge.

Jack D is absolutely correct when he writes that even with what some see as Trump’s “betrayals,” he is “still a million times better than Hillary” and advises us to “pull the lever for Trump in November or you will live to regret.” I’m a libertarian, so I find much to disagree with in Donald Trump’s positions. But either he or the Queen of Chaos will be the next president of the United States. Whatever his failings they fade into insignificance compared to Hillary’s fathomless corruption and, yes, evil. She is the capo di tutti capi if the Clinton Crime Family. Listen to Stephen Miller on YouTube nail her for the scores of millions of dollars she’s banked, including from the Saudis. She revels in the death of her enemies. The film of her cackling laughter at the murder of Gaddafi–“we came, we saw, he died”–will send shivers down your spine. To top it all, in her arrogance and recklessness, Hillary is fully capable of risking a nuclear confrontation with Russia. This is the most important election in American history, and in my view there’s only one possible choice.

If you don’t start condemning this in no uncertain terms, you yourselves will guarantee that Trump will become President. Do you want that on your conscience?
Hillary will double down with her "Better Together" slogan, 'this is not who we are, we're better than this' crap, while Trump will point out the politically-incorrect inconvenient facts.
The media is making a big mistake with the BLM nonsense. Go to any community meeting in the inner city (including NYC where the crime rate is waay down), and the mothers and grandmothers plead with the cops to do more to get the thugs off the streets.

I think I’ve figured out Obama’s game. He doesn’t want the country to fall apart and some apocalyptic scenario to happen. That would be bad for business. But he does want more police murders so that whites become visibly upset by the idea of blacks running around with AR15s. I have to admit, it alarms me. Moderate Republican whites will demand gun control. This is his way of manipulating what he can’t get by straightforward means. He’s pretty clever.
Yeah, three more cops dead in Baton Rouge from an ambush. Perps are likely black and almost certainly Black Lives Matter inspired. Obama and Loretta Lynch’s dog whistles came out during their “conciliatory memorials” of the five dead cops in Dallas, and all the animals in the inner city heard it. Their real message: dead cops are inevitable when there is”injustice.” (Oh yeah, and Obama and LL’s definition of “injustice” are the the only ones that count.)

I’m not so sure about that. ISIS is the only truly medieval, Muhammad approved (but I repeat myself) Islamic territory on Earth. There hasn’t been something quite like it for centuries. The existence of an actualized Muslim utopia (yeah, they’re crazy, but this is their utopia) must be exhilarating to potential terrorists everywhere. There didn’t seem to be all these internet-radicalized lone wolf douche bags (San Bernardino, Orlando, Nice etc.) when Al Qaeda was the only game in town.
Similarly, when Fox News provided an explicitly conservative alternative to the MSM, the MSM lost all pretense of being neutral starting ~2003. Most people now understand that considering NBC, CBS, or ABC's news divisions unbiased is laughable because they are so nakedly partisan. Back in the '90s, when they could be more subtle with their misdirection because there was no alternative, there was a much more compelling appearance of neutrality among the MSM.
The Sailer strategy would have exploited this dynamic a decade ago but the GOPe was too corrupt and stupid to realize it. The underlying forces are so powerful that the Democrats-as-black-party is now coming about of its own inertia.Replies: @Forbes
FOX news definitely changed the landscape, as stories are covered or not, depending on the audience. The best part about the Obama presidency has been all the racial healing that he has brought about in this country. Some said that no, paradoxically, having a black President would only inflate black demands and raise expectations that from now on EVERY President had to be black, just like every Academy award winner and every surgeon in every TV commercial, but I said no, the fact that a black man (not just any black man but one who wore his racial identity proudly and was certainly no Uncle Tom) had been elected President would prove once and for all that white people are not all conspiring to keep the black man down and that blacks would come to realize that they possessed agency and that their destiny was in their own hands. And it has worked out exactly as I predicted.
With W Bush I often used to ask myself, “Is he stupid or insane?” I never really arrived at a satisfactory conclusion. The data was contradictory.
During the 2008 campaign, I asked myself, “Is Obama naive or just a shameless liar?” I soon came down on the latter. We should probably stop wasting clock cycles trying to come up with new and interesting ways to explain Black behavior. The answer is as clear as it is timeless:
Low relative IQ + Poor impulse control + High time preference = Self-destructive, dysfunctional culture.
The best you can do given these facts is to try to make it more difficult for such cultures to destroy themselves.
Obama of course chose the opposite strategy.

Long since debunked, both in iSteve and elsewhere. Bill was born in early August 1946. On New Years Day that year, Blythe (a traveling salesman in civilian life) was still present for duty/answered roll call on an Army base in Italy. There is no indication Bill was born prematurely, and in any case in 1946 the return of enlisted grunts was not like hopping on a jet; it was long, laborious, and almost certainly by ship.
Bill’s real father was almost certainly a local physician that his mother worked as a nurse for. Blythe was just the cover story, conveniently dead anyway by the time Bill was born, and thus it should come as no surprise that Bill had no sentimental attachment to the name when it seemed usefulti change it to a stepfather’s.
No, his was a hagiography.

Hussein Obama is a mulatto … and wherever you go in the “Black” world, mulattoes rule. This has been the case in Haiti and the rest of the Caribbean. This is the case in the United States; and it used to be the case in Liberia. No time to do research, but I would suspect that is also the case in many other sub-Saharan “bantustans” (I haven’t the heart to call them countries).
I recall stories that in the mid-20st Century, Blacks used to have parties where, when you checked in at the door, they compared your complexion to a light brown grocery sack (does anyone remember those sacks?). If you were darker than the grocery sack, you didn’t get in.
I also ran across a story that “Blacks” in the Caribbean have a tradition of trying to “white” the family tree. The expectation and hope is that the family will become “whiter” every generation … hence, points for marry someone lighter or (the ultimate number of points) marrying a “White” person.
Obama apparently didn’t get the memo. He went the other direction. I’m assuming that this generated extra points in the Chicago political arena. His challenge before Chicago was to prove his “whiteness” to develop a reputation as a “safe Black” within the Affirmative Action community. (It worked.) His challenge in Chicago was to hide his “whiteness” so he could represent the “Black” community.
Was Michelle Roberts his first “Black” girlfriend; that is, at least the appearance of a political marriage of convenience? Does anyone out there know?

Steve posted several years ago about Aleshia Keys’ adoption of Black Panther aesthetics, including a an AK-47 necklace that she explained stood for “killing ’em dead.” Beyoncé has embraced this style too. Identifying with your black parent (father) is of course mandatory.
Where a blacker black would stop, they go even further to out-black everyone, and vice versa. It’s a strange mixture of black megalomania and white calculation. Once you understand the typology, as Kylie said above, everything Obama does and says makes more sense.
The easiest way to torpedo #BLM is to focus on unarmed whites shot by cops, which removes the racial angle. There are plenty of those.
You could show plentiful black on black homicides but that would be perceived as victim blaming and just inspire further resentment.
However as I pointed out last week these shootings are symptomatic of high levels of black crime and thus racial profiling and the only way to solve that is to either raise up the black community or stop policing it so aggressively, and the latter will only cause crime to spill out into the white hoods.
It is the video that’s driving all of this.

Looking forward: As a civilian backstop against criminal anarchy, shall-issue (concealed or open) carry needs to be the law of the land everywhere. Places like California, New Jersey and Manhattan have to get right with the 2nd Amendment. That’s one major thing a President Trump can possibly accomplish via executive order. Smartphones and live-stream uploads ain’t gonna be uninvented anytime soon, so it’s a waste of time to keep mentioning this.

It’s not just Obama. Using “folks” where an ordinary person would say “people” is a common far-left verbal tic. There’s a distinct dialect of Activist English that comes from stiff, humorless grad student types trying a little too hard to sound “street.” I can’t think of any other examples offhand, but I know it when I hear it.
Sorry, I misinterpreted your comment despite reading it several times. I mistakenly thought your appeal was directed to copy killers.
Still don’t think even the threat of indirectly helping Trump becone POTUS would make the MSN and the left refrain from inflammatory rhetoric. They simply can’t help themselves. They hate us too much. In this they are indeed like their black brethren. They can’t pass up a chance to spew anti-white hatred and they ignore what it inevitably leads to. Because everything is always the fault of non-liberal whites. Everything–from global warming to microagressions.

I think there are some in the media/left who have enough savvy to see that there’s going to be major voter blowback over the killings of cops.
Whether such knowledge will enable them to stop themselves from pushing The Narrative is another question.
But it’s going to be The Narrative that will get Trump elected.

Why not report the daily black-on-white murders from around the nation?
Remember that news broadcaster and her camera man murdered last August? I didn't think so. Way down the memory hole.
I said directly after Dallas that Trump was just elected. Five cops assassinated? You can’t make that disappear, except with something worse. As CO said, the fire was started, how do you put it out… Combine ‘zero impulse control’ with ‘because we can’ and the wheels come off.
Hillary will double down with her “Better Together” slogan, ‘this is not who we are, we’re better than this’ crap, while Trump will point out the politically-incorrect inconvenient facts.
The media is making a big mistake with the BLM nonsense. Go to any community meeting in the inner city (including NYC where the crime rate is waay down), and the mothers and grandmothers plead with the cops to do more to get the thugs off the streets.
BLM is just the next evolution in racial grievance mongering (and $$) after, first Jesse Jackson, and then Al Sharpton.
Politicians including POTUS should not be validating #BLM. If there’s an issue with police homicides we should recognize first that without video we would never hear about 90% of them.
One can argue up and down that these killings are legit but the videos are visceral and people react to that.
As long as all police homicides are gonna be on Facebook, the standards have to change. Otherwise this won’t stop. Meanwhile racially charging the issue a la #BLM has to be repudiated.
Problem is that Black Grievance has become a major movement, which actually only disrupts everything, accomplishes nothing positive, and does not address the underlying situation in terms of failed black communities, mostly in the North. How do you call that out without being labeled with the R word?
Needless to say Black Grievance also polarizes and inspires hatred among non-blacks. I haven’t seen so much contempt for black folks in over 50 years. This isn’t going to end well.
Strange that 1/8 of the population has so much impact on our day to day media.

You weren’t alone. The media couldn’t decide if W was clever or dumb, as their reporting usually include both in the same conclusion.
Same as black on black killings, it will be perceived as victim blaming and hate inspiring.

It’s possible.
You’ll find lots of folks in slums and PJs who have never been outside the five-mile radius in which they were born. Even if they do get out it is often too little, too late. All this results in most American blacks having an extremely limited perception of the context of their existence.
Furthermore, as Fred Reed has explained multiple times, in such conditions it’s very easy even for blacks who know that they are a minority to not stop and consider what the fact that whites are still holding all the cards will mean if the current intelligentsia is shattered, or if open race war should break out.
If the residents would bother to get jobs, then no one would have to use excessive ticket-issuing to raise revenue. It's the residents' fault, pure and simple. “If the local government has to fund itself via traffic tickets, that means it doesn’t have a viable tax base. And it if doesn’t have a tax base, it means the majority of the residents are on welfare, and they’re a massive draw on the resources of the local government.”
Ferguson will be over 70 percent Black by the time the 2020 U.S census rolls around.
You can’t have a viable tax base in a city that is over 70 percent Black. Don’t listen to Wesley Snipes, never bet on Black.
The Left says diversity is our strength, but they never specifically say Blackness is our strength. Blackness doesn’t pay the bills, keep the lights on, maintain our roads & other infrastructure, etc because there is not much of a tax base in Chocolate cities.

‘Evangelical’ is really just a polite word for fundamentalist, churches where it is de rigueur to claim belief in Noah’s Ark, the Tower of Babel, walking on water, turning water into wine, Jesus ascending into heaven like an astronaut with jet heels, and so on. Also claiming to believe that Jesus was sacrificed like an animal as a payment to God for the sins of human beings–huh?
There are plenty of protestants in Europe, for instance Lutherans, but mostly they don’t believe quite so literally in the above items. For example they might say that laying down one’s life for others is the greatest virtuous act a person can do, or even offering to donate a kidney, for that matter, but probably don’t literally believe in a God who demands blood sacrifices. Similarly the Catholic and Episcopalian ritual of eating the body and drinking the blood of Jesus in the form of bread and wine is just taken as a time-honored ritual, rather than seen as an act of cannibalism that conveys supernatural powers on the participant–no matter what the official line might be.
American Evangelicals seem to be much more likely to be easily led by charismatic preachers into agreement with ideas they would not have come up with on their own. European protestants tend to be more questioning, and thus less likely to be ultra right wing.

If you ever read the comment streams on YouTube and Periscope when events like the Dallas shooting or Trump riots are happening, I don’t think kids are as brainwashed as you think.

Most of my FB atheists are childless or 1 kid in their 30’s types however.

Obama has a very Hitlerian personality. Now, of course, people will attempt to deliberately misrepresent that analogy, because Hitler has become a larger-than-life Satan for secularists.
But if you objectively analyze both personalities, the parallels are striking. Both were outsiders. Both were loners. Both had citizenship “questions” (Hitler did not obtain German citizenship until 1932). Both were street radicals who changed tactics an put on a coat and tie and co-opted institutional power. Of course both were demagogic orators. Both saw themselves as sui generis, one-of-a-kind transformational figures. Both wrote autobiographies at a young, unaccomplished age. Both accomplished nothing, in fact were losers, outside of politics.

Jerry’s character is Jewish. Elaine is ambiguous. Whatever their backstories, the characters of George and Kramer (Kramer is a usually Jewish name, right?) read strongly as Jewish, especially George. Both characters have a “stereotypical” nervous energy. Is Paris worth a Mass?
I don’t have too high expectations or much of anything else invested in Trump. He ticks off the media, liberals, El Jebe!, Romney, etc. So he has that going for him. I expect he will build the Wall and get Mexico to pay for it, and get some (which is better than none from Hillary!) economic protectionism and limits on H1B visas. Other than that, I don’t expect much. Trump likes AA, Black people, he’s a partial Democrat in that regard, also Gay Rights and Gay Marriage and Trans Bathrooms. The only thing Trump has been interested in the last twenty years is economic protectionism and border control, which is enough for me. Cutting back on H1B visas increases the amount I can sell my programming labor so I like that. Again I don’t have much expectations, other than Hillary! would order the immediate castration of every (Straight) White man in the nation. Bill especially.
As for the Baton Rouge shooting, no picture yet of the dead suspect which means almost certainly Black (if he’d been White that picture would be all over the news). My guess is police will hunker down and not patrol much, become a hardened target and BLM people will go attack random White people. Like me. Or you. In White neighborhoods, since Whites avoid Black areas like the plague.
This is potentially game-changing, as it might reduce or even end the White Civil War. Whites have been fighting each other on class and culture basis since at least Cromwell’s time. Different groups of Whites have incompatible and mutually exclusive ideas on pretty much everything — keeping time, marking birth and death, religious obligations, means and methods of worships, naming kids, having kids, raising kids, eating food, and so on. That has been a luxury by no serious non-White threats enforcing unity ala Britain in 1940, or Israel in 1974. Or America during much of the Cold War, and particularly the early part.
Who will BLM be attacking, Joe Sixpack Redneck out in say, Temecula, armed with shotguns and rifles let alone handguns, or defenseless Hipster Ironic Dude in a trendy nearby White area? And if they KEEP ON ATTACKING defenseless Hipster Ironic Dudes, in trendy nearby White areas, eventually by sheer survival they turn into distant, moved, loss of income hard core redneck dudes with guns and tats living in the exurbs. Trendy Ironic Defenseless Hipster dudes can only live when they don’t have to devote considerable resources into defense/survival.
I don’t see BLM ending any time soon — Black loser thugs enjoy killing/shooting Whites, it gets them respect and gains fear in those they intimidate and that’s a drug with a bigger high than heroin and cocaine. The larger Black community has mostly endorsed it, and certainly has not sought to stop it; again the fear drug is a tremendous high even second hand. If every Soros centavo ended tomorrow, and the leadership all disbanded for a fabulous Gay Pride Party, it would go on. I do see a switch from hardening targets (the men and women in blue) to ordinary hipster Whites making them into refugee rednecks. But that’s a process of years.
Yep. It’s up there with Shitavious (real) and Latrina (real).
How many sneakers does Nike make in Oregon?
You could show plentiful black on black homicides but that would be perceived as victim blaming and just inspire further resentment.
However as I pointed out last week these shootings are symptomatic of high levels of black crime and thus racial profiling and the only way to solve that is to either raise up the black community or stop policing it so aggressively, and the latter will only cause crime to spill out into the white hoods.
It is the video that's driving all of this.Replies: @Kylie, @iStevefan, @Jenner Ickham Errican
Unless by “raise up” you’re making a sly reference to Strange Fruit, there is no raising up possible due to well established HBD realities.* Some amazing sci-fi cognitive/temperamental genetic engineering would have be involuntarily employed on blacks to change the collective behavior of the “black community.”
Kylie’s got it right. The solution is to stop policing black hoods. Make “911 Is A Joke” de facto policy in black hoods. Civilized, tax-paying areas get the cops, and those cops will defend those areas. (Any official hue and cry denouncing perceived ‘hood de-policing should be met with an organized, week-long nationwide urban department Police Strike. Mealy-mouthed governors can call out the Guard if they’re scared of the Mau-Maus.)

One thing I’ve learned in recent years was that the highly functional members of Obama’s extended family in America had a pretty smart game plan for him: to get him into the international relations game and become a diplomat or NGO executive or college professor specializing in non-Arab Muslim countries. For example, they helped set him up with the daughter of the Australian ambassador to Washington who was also the step-daughter of a Washington super lawyer, both of whom had close professional ties to Indonesia.
Most of Obama’s male friends were the sons of powerful people in Pakistan.

I’ve had two white English evangelical friends. Both were strongly left-wing, Labour supporters. From what I’ve seen, in England that is standard.
Northern Ireland where I’m from is different; evangelical Protestantism there is right-wing, as it is with the descendants (cultural & real) of the Ulstermen in Scots-Irish USA.
Martin Luther, for example, believed his fight against the Romish Church was part of an ancient struggle between Germans and Romans. Luther idolized Arminius, who annihilated three Roman Legions in the Teutoburg Forest and prevented the Romanization of Germania.
In early modern England, Catholicism likewise became synonymous with pernicious foreign (read: Italian, French, Spanish, and Irish) influence, the 'Norman yoke', and lost 'ancient Saxon liberties.'
Modern Protestantism, detached from its hardscrabble nationalist roots (except in places like Ulster), is consequently largely left wing.
He used that lecturing, black preacher singsong tone that white leftists just love and his audience lapped it up. I prayed then and there for a scandal to derail his political career. God turned a deaf ear. His ways are indeed mysterious.Replies: @Pericles, @dcite, @CJ, @Buffalo Joe

As for affordability, it isn't too bad in the suburbs. You get buy a respectable middle class house for $400,000, which sounds high but really isn't when you factor in the mortgage tax credit and very low rates, not to mention the low property tax and negligible heating and AC costs.Replies: @newrouter, @AnotherDad
Where? Temecula?
Good buddy from grad school is down there–and yeah, ok he’s in neighborhood with “good schools”–but his upper middle class house cost a million. (Pre bubble pop, but it only cratered 100k or so and everything in his sub-division is now solidly north of a million.) Another grad friend was up in Carlsbad and his place–an older but larger house–was 800k and is now also in the million ballpark.
I’d think $400k in San Deigo gets you a 3-bedroom working class home in a Mexican neighborhood.
But hey, you live there, i don’t. My advice to white Californians: It’s over. They are having babies and you’re not. Is the weather really that great? To pay those taxes to live in Mexico?
http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1548-Fargo-Ave-El-Cajon-CA-92019/17051994_zpid/
Both the census block group and the zip code are about 75% Non-Hispanic white and 20% hispanic. My property taxes are about 0.6% of the home's value. It is mainly the income taxes that are so bad here. Sales taxes do not matter so much given I save a large portion of my income, buy things online, or spend them on exempt categories like food, services, etc. Well spending 800,000 for a house worked out pretty well for him so far. I had better timing than your friend did and have nearly doubled the value of my house. Rather than flee Mexicans I will wait for China to become more unstable and sell to some rich people there who find San Diego a great value compared to their black-aired dystopias.
One can argue up and down that these killings are legit but the videos are visceral and people react to that.

Yeah, the only reason the son of a coal black African is considered black is because of the one drop rule.
Dude, that’s retarded.
If all of Obama ancestors for the last 100 years were otherwise white, but back in the 1880s one of his grandmothers married a black guy, yet we still called Obama black, that would be because of the one drop rule.
Mulattos aren’t “black and white” and they’re not white.
They’re black.
White people have always considered mulattoes to be black. Not white, and not “black and white.”
Let me guess – you’re a “kinist”, right? One of those very confused rainbow right-wingers who say that Obama is black and white, and so if he had married a white woman it wouldn’t be interracial marriage.
Kinists are the only “race realists” I’ve ever encountered who claim that mulattoes are both black and white.
There used to be a right wing radio show on the air with the unbelievably stupid name of The Political Cesspool. I listened to it despite the name, until 2008, when Obama was running for president. Every week the co-host, who went by Winston Smith, IIRC, would say something to the effect of “I’m sick and tired of the lamestream media calling Barack Obama black. He’s white, too!!!”
And Smith was always promoting kinism.
So I tuned out. Whatever “kinism” is, I want no part of it.
I hope this blog doesn’t become a gathering place of kinist types.

Thomas, in Cleveland a Browns player tweated (?) a photo of a cop getting his throat slit by a hooded figure. The shit hit the fan and rightly so. Browns said an apology was not enough so further action pending. But, the most interesting sidebar to the story is that the head of the Cleveland Police Union, said maybe off duty cops wouldn’t work security at Browns’ games and sadly the commenters on Cleveland.com were against him. Can not figure that one out.
I thought of that after I posted my comment.
e, Actually I am his body double, so if you can somehow get me your contact numbers I will be happy to meet up with you.
Wrong. Most Europeans – Catholic, Protestant or otherwise – have ideas that fit for the most part fairly well within the present Overton Window and just do not think to question the general intelligentsia on any serious level.
Also, your comments about European Christians are more accurate with regards to Western than to Eastern Europe, and even then you might be surprised at the proportion of *practicing* Catholics in the West who do in fact believe in Transubstantiation.
Lastly, “Evangelical” and “Fundamentalist” are actually not interchangeable, although there is important overlap between the two.
And there are people like you, Jack Hanson, and Jack D, who, when presented with clear evidence of betrayal, will hem and haw and rationalize it away.
You folks did it with Comey admitting the FBI was nothing more than the secret police for the Tsar, and you’re doing it now with Trump’s cuck VP showing he won’t go through on his immigration/border promises.

I didn’t mean he was planning to gain politically from a Trump win. As Svigor said, Trump would be a great foil for him as ex-President. I do think Obama is interested in making as much money as possible once out of office, and he has a better chance of doing that if he can assume a role that contrasts him to the succeeding administration.

Forbes…..YES, the community wants to be safe. Cops do not randomly solve crimes, they are called to the scene of a crime or by a community member who wants police action. Eric Gardner was selling loose cigarettes in front of a corner store, the store owner called the cops. And, tragically again, in Cleveland another child is the victims of a drive by shooting. A two year old girl shot in the arm and head by a #BlackLivesDon’tMeanShit thug. Add her to last year’s five year old, three year old and five month old Cleveland victims. When a cop responds to one of these shootings he has to lose all respect for the community.
As I’m sure you know, the actual cause of death from asphyxiation is often a cardiac event. Ask any doctor, if you don’t believe me. The officers had no legal authority to even touch this man. He was talking, and he had not committed a crime.

Gives me an opportunity to post this:
At least 3/4 of the principle quartet is Jewish.
Jerry’s character is Jewish. Elaine is ambiguous. Whatever their backstories, the characters of George and Kramer (Kramer is a usually Jewish name, right?) read strongly as Jewish, especially George. Both characters have a “stereotypical” nervous energy. (George: neurotic, Kramer: comically chaotic) The casting of Jerry Stiller and Estelle Harris (George’s parents) as possibly Italian Catholic is obviously not serious. I think the non-Jewish/ambiguous backstories of some of the characters was put there so as not to alienate ‘middle America’. This has probably been written about already, somewhere.
George was the only one of the three I couldn't buy as non-Jewish. But while they never actually outright mentioned him being Jewish, Estelle did mention Eastern European stuff from time to time, so I always assumed they at least made him half-Jewish in the show, which is better than nothing even if fully Jewish really would've made more sense. Supposedly the characters' ethnic background was just never given that much thought, but I'm inclined to agree with you about it. Or maybe they just really liked the sound of "George Costanza".
But shootings over drugs, street robberies and drunken fights over nonsense don’t make for good television,
If you watch the first season of Law & Order, that’s basically what it was. The ratings weren’t very high, so that’s why they went on to more “interesting” cases.
But people have been watching Cops for all these years, because it’s still on. So is The First 48. So I don’t know. Those shows are probably cheaper to make, so it’s easier for them to be profitable.

Yeah, that’s a good point. I think that, if you’re a gargantuan tub of lard, the cops should ask “Would you like to be arrested?”, and if you say “No.”, they should just walk away and not arrest you.
I’m kind of surprised that the guy who would publish The Myth Of Natural Rights would say something like that.
Don’t worry, though. I’m still planning to buy every book you put out.
Dr X, Obama is hardly a spell-binding orator, and it is questionable that he wrote his autobiography. Hitler also wasn’t cowed by a Valery or a Michelle.

Actually, there are a lot of unarmed people getting shot, black and white. The justification for these shootings is invariably “I thought he was going for a gun”, and that’s why few officers who shoot unarmed suspects get into really big trouble. I’m actually OK with that, but I do think the protocols that allow police officers to kill unarmed suspects need to be changed; I mean, there are many ways of disarming someone short of killing them. The Fresno shooting of a white kid last month is an example.
Police officers are public servants, they aren’t a Praetorian Guard. If the public thinks police officers are killing too quickly, then the first thing that will happen is that the police officers who are involved will lose their jobs, and then the chief will be told to revise his procedures. If he doesn’t, then he will be replaced. The police have to answer to the civil authorities that fund them.
And that didn't lead to riots, did it?
If the public thinks police officers are killing too quickly
No offense, but the public doesn't know squat. How many times, over the past few weeks, have you heard someone say something like "But he wasn't POINTING the gun at the cop!"?
"The public" apparently doesn't understand that, if someone wants to shoot you, it's already too late to stop him by the time the gun is actually POINTING at you. "The public" would probably understand that, if someone took the time to explain to them that a bullet can travel from his gun to you faster than you can react and send a bullet from your gun to him to stop him, but for every person who would explain that to them, there are a thousand angry morons who just hate the police because they don't like being arrested.
"The public" apparently doesn't even understand that fewer cops patrolling the streets means that more people are going to get killed.
What exactly are you supposed to do about that?Replies: @The most deplorable one
Based on following the news, it appears that unarmed suspects, white and black, are shot rather frequently.
You ever wonder if maybe all the times that a cop shoots an armed person just aren't considered very newsworthy?
If following the news meant anything, the kind of person most likely to get kidnapped would be a little white girl.

Noted. I left her character as the ambiguous 1 out of 4. Casting wise, if they wanted Elaine to seem WASPy, they should have gone with someone more obviously “shiksa.” Good thing they didn’t, because Julia Louis-Dreyfus otherwise fit the show perfectly.

Police officers are public servants, they aren't a Praetorian Guard. If the public thinks police officers are killing too quickly, then the first thing that will happen is that the police officers who are involved will lose their jobs, and then the chief will be told to revise his procedures. If he doesn't, then he will be replaced. The police have to answer to the civil authorities that fund them.Replies: @anon

No offense, but the public doesn’t know squat. How many times, over the past few weeks, have you heard someone say something like “But he wasn’t POINTING the gun at the cop!”?
“The public” apparently doesn’t understand that, if someone wants to shoot you, it’s already too late to stop him by the time the gun is actually POINTING at you. “The public” would probably understand that, if someone took the time to explain to them that a bullet can travel from his gun to you faster than you can react and send a bullet from your gun to him to stop him, but for every person who would explain that to them, there are a thousand angry morons who just hate the police because they don’t like being arrested.
“The public” apparently doesn’t even understand that fewer cops patrolling the streets means that more people are going to get killed.
What exactly are you supposed to do about that?

They actually used the term “shiksa” to describe her in one episode, saying she had “shiksa appeal”, which is why Jewish guys wanted to go out with her.

Based on following the news, it appears that unarmed suspects, white and black, are shot rather frequently.
You ever wonder if maybe all the times that a cop shoots an armed person just aren’t considered very newsworthy?
If following the news meant anything, the kind of person most likely to get kidnapped would be a little white girl.
The real guy Kramer is based on is also Jewish, but I don’t think the show ever said whether he was or not. Michael Richards isn’t, though.

Elaine was based on ex-girlfriends of both Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David, so she contains multitudes.
Characters could be of mixed descent, like the siblings Ross and Monica on Friends. Their parents are played by Elliot Gould and Yorkshire actress Christina Pickles.
Another complicating factor could be step-parents.

We are not going to see a lot of mass shootings or expulsions or what have you. As far as cops not policing black neighborhoods, isn't that the de facto situation in Baltimore?
Allowing everyone to carry is just going to lead to more asinine civilian shootings, like the white guy in Florida who emptied his weapon into a van of black kids, killing one, as well as more civilian deaths, as the "I thought he was going for a weapon" will become absolutely ironclad for police officers.Replies: @Jenner Ickham Errican
Not sure I’d classify Ferguson MO and Baton Rouge LA as Northern Ghettos. McKinney and Dallas TX and Baltimore MD seem pretty action-packed. Not exactly the South, but not quite the North either.
No, not everyone. If you’re at all familiar with getting a pistol permit, you know that your background is checked against state and federal criminal databases. Felonies/criminal warrants and involuntary psych admissions are automatic disqualifiers. We can’t deny people their Constitutionally recognized rights based on “PreCrime” divinations.
That white guy in Florida (Michael Dunn) is currently chillin’ in state prison with a life plus sentence. Criminals are gonna criminal, whatever the race.
It already is, and will always be, ironclad. Supposedly there are more than 300 million guns in private hands in the U.S. Even if draconian gun bans were somehow passed tomorrow, those guns aren’t just going away. So, yeah, cops are going to rightly assume that anyone they encounter could very well be armed, legally or not.
And that didn't lead to riots, did it?

Within American Protestantism, there used to be a clear political split between Evangelical leaders and Mainline leaders, but within the Evangelical intelligentsia (yes, it exists), there has been a noticeable leftward drift over the past two decades.
There is still more political conservatism among the Evangelical rank-and-file than among Mainline Protestants. However, once the left took over Mainline Protestantism, the membership (and influence) of Mainline denominations shrank dramatically.

Elaine wasn’t ambiguous, the shiksappeal episode spelled it out. And apparently she was based on a Susan McNabb and on Richard Yates’s daughter. Kramer I’d always thought was Jewish until he said he wasn’t, but more because of the name than the character, really.
George was the only one of the three I couldn’t buy as non-Jewish. But while they never actually outright mentioned him being Jewish, Estelle did mention Eastern European stuff from time to time, so I always assumed they at least made him half-Jewish in the show, which is better than nothing even if fully Jewish really would’ve made more sense. Supposedly the characters’ ethnic background was just never given that much thought, but I’m inclined to agree with you about it. Or maybe they just really liked the sound of “George Costanza”.
If they really wanted her to seem WASPy, they shouldn’t have given her a Czech name. At least it came in handy for the episode with the racially ambiguous boyfriend who mistakes her for a Latina.

Now that Steve’s mentioned Friends I’ve remembered Rachel Green, another interesting case of TV Jewishness. While the Gellers would mention being Jewish from time to time, Rachel only explicitly confirmed it once in the show’s entire run. I guess they thought 3 out of 6 was too much?
The episode where Jerry and George meet Elaine’s father at the club is amazing.
The character is supposed to be Italian – there’s an episode where his father finds his brother in Italy.
The woman cast as Elaine’s cousin (who briefly dates Jerry) was a blonde.

Good points. There was one episode where Jerry described Donna Chang(stein) to Elaine as “like you”, which was an example of forgetting.
2.5 of the actors playing the main 4 characters were Jewish, but only one of the characters was specified as Jewish.
“Wealthy” is an understatement re Louis-Dreyfus. Her father is a billionaire.
Also, Rachel Green starts out as a stereotypical JAP (before morphing into a career gal), so that might have been a concern. But not much about the show made a lot sense. For example, Monica wouldn’t have been hanging out with the rest of them if she were a chef. Restaurant workers have different schedules and different crowds.

I linked to that episode in my comment. The term they’re dancing around is “shiksa goddess,” (scroll down) so they used (or made up?) the punny term “shiksa appeal.” It’s weird, because in the cab George explains “shiksa appeal” from a Jewish man’s perspective to Elaine, but Louis-Dreyfus, while attractive, isn’t physically/visually close to being a ‘shiksa goddess’ in the bowdlerized way George describes it. Philip Roth in Portnoy’s Complaint notably explains:
Cybil Shepard in The Heartbreak Kid, and Naomi Watts and Amanda Seyfried in While We’re Young are more typical (fair skin, blue eyes, blonde) shiksa objects of lust/affection for male Jewish characters. Basically, Seinfeld was trying to “sell it” plot wise, unconvincingly.

Nah. Like much of the last couple of seasons, the whole situation, with Jewish men lunging at Elaine and renouncing Judaism on the spot once they sense her shiksappeal, was meant to be absurd.
That interpretation works too. I may have been reading into it.

There’s more to casting than appearance, and I suspect it was secondary to comedic acting ability in most cases on Seinfeld. George is obviously a proxy for Larry David, though the main physical similarity is their baldness. It could be there was no one who looked more like David (taller and thinner) with Jason Alexander’s acting chops.
Could be the same is true of Elaine, which is why she wasn’t cast with a WASPy actress. Today, Kristen Wiig or Kate McKinnon jump out as talented WASPy comedic actresses, but maybe Louis-Dreyfus was the best talent available at the time.
As far as mannerisms, certainly George conveys a stereotypically Jewish neuroticism, despite his character’s Italian background. But the others? Jerry basically seems to play version of himself, a laid back comedian who happens to be Jewish. He’s usually the straight man on the show.
Elaine is sort of ambiguous, befitting Steve’s comment about her “containing multitudes”, but she doesn’t act like a typical Jewish woman in NYC. That sort of character wouldn’t be funny unless you went over the top with it, like Susie Essman does in Curb Your Enthusiasm and the horrible Broad City, and it’s best in small doses.
Kramer doesn’t come across as particularly Jewish in his mannerisms, despite being named after (and very loosely based) on an actual Jew. His mannerisms and physicality resemble those of John Ritter’s Jack Tripper more than anything particularly Jewish, though he could pass as Jewish in appearance.
Responded to your 5:22 comment.
The situation was absurd. Comical, even. They should call it a sitcom! Genius!
Hey Dave. Thanks for replying. You have some good observations. I agree that ‘acting chops’ and cast chemistry (and of course good writing) made the show enjoyable to watch. Each character was relatable in their respective ways and foibles (and if I must quote myself from upthread):
Your comment about the conviviality reminds me, too, that there was a bit of realistic awkwardness as well. Like the episode where Jerry can't go out so Elaine and George go without him, and they run out of things to talk about when they exhaust their Jerry anecdotes.
Some sitcoms are built on comical, but plausible situations. Some are built on the absurd. Seinfeld, for example, started out as the former, and over the years moved toward the latter.
The point of my post was, the show wasn’t unsuccessful in trying to sell Louis-Dreyfus as having convincing shiksappeal, it was never trying to do so in the first place.
There are two levels of absurdity: The wild reaction of the men at the sight of her (slapstick) and the more meta dissonance that she is visually identifiable as a shiksa (goddess). The former can only really "work" comedically if the latter is obvious. Hence, my verdict of “unconvincing.”
My laboriously linked walls of text were in response to the other commenters who were seriously citing the “shiksappeal” episode as evidence that her character wasn’t of (what I reasonably contended from the start) ambiguous heritage, strongly implying she was more typically DAR/Junior League because of backstory. You can see the same thing in the Catholic Church in France and in Germany. Believing and practicing Catholics vote overwhelmingly for right-wing parties, but the bishops cannot even be bothered to take a stand against abortion and gay marriage without waxing on a lot of nonsense about immigration, tolerance and “social justice.” It’s no wonder that silly crypto-Sufist pagan “traditionalism” is so tempting to thinking right-minded folks over here. But by most accounts the French episcopat is heavily screened and watched by the deep state, which contrary to its pretensions is far from neutral in religious matters. So a resurgence of Catholicism in French life is not exactly a priority among most of the ostensibly “Catholic” bishops here. I myself am a practicing Catholic in France and I am appalled at the Pollyanna attitude of so many Catholics (even FN sympathizers) toward the present Church hierarchy.

That one’s me, too. Let me just quote the whole thing.
Most of that is about clearing up what exactly was stated on the show itself. I’ve discussed it a few times (and, man, the topic come up a lot!), so I remember pretty well what was openly stated or hinted at on the show itself. Now, I don’t take these stated backgrounds at face value, and I definitely think middle America was a consideration, but I’m saying that, based on the characters (and in Elaine’s case, what we know about the way the character was created) I didn’t think (the way many people seem to) of Kramer and Elaine as necessarily coded as Jewish.
I can see the character of Elaine as ambiguous in that sense, though (nothing about Kramer really struck me as particularly Jewish, other than the “Kramer”), but I don’t know if that was a conscious choice or it just ended up happening that way. And, unlike the possibility of George being a Gentile, I never thought Elaine being one came across as hokey. She’s not a convincing Shiksa Goddess, but to me she’s a convincing enough shiksa. Whereas, much as I loved watching Jerry Stiller as New York’s least Italian Italian, George having an Italian father and a mother from a never clearly stated background always felt like a cop out.
I love these discussions. And Seinfeld. I really should watch again, from the beginning. It’s been so many years now, and my English wasn’t really as good back when I watched it religiously.

I'd think $400k in San Deigo gets you a 3-bedroom working class home in a Mexican neighborhood.

Both the census block group and the zip code are about 75% Non-Hispanic white and 20% hispanic.
My property taxes are about 0.6% of the home’s value.
I’ve had multiple people actually say to me that they never had any interest in watching the show because they’d heard it was about nothing!
They were taking the “shiksa” assertion at face value:
Anonymous at 2:45 am: anon hedges a bit: Steve seems to finally agree with my from-the-start “ambiguous” classification: Programming note: A self-described “show about nothing” sure has generated quite the sub-thread! Personally, I find human taxonomy (social, racial, cultural, whatever) fascinating. It’s always interesting to see what other people notice, and why.Replies: @Dave Pinsen, @Anonymous
Sorry, I somehow managed to reply (11:02) without actually posting it as a reply to this comment.
No worries, I caught it when you posted it. I love these discussions, too. One thing that makes them smoother: If you plan to leave future comments, make up a screen name… it will be easier to know who’s saying what! Cheers.
I’ve thought about it, but then I never actually do it, since I barely ever post anything. Mostly just when something I’m really interested in is mentioned, when I think there’s a chance no one else will bring up something I think should be part of the discussion, or during crazy weeks like this one. Still, I should probably just get round to thinking one up, it doesn’t look like things are gonna get less crazy any time soon.
