For most of the two Obama administrations, the corporate press kept talking about the record setting number of deportations, but that was largely due to a methodology change of starting to count border crossers caught near the border as deportees.
The dog that wasn’t barking was workplace raids. After the Postville raid of 2008, you just didn’t hear much at all about the government trying to round up illegal aliens at obvious mass scale employers.
Now the New York Times is kinda sorta admitting they were lying to us with that “Deporter-in-Chief” talk:
Raids of Illegal Immigrants Bring Harsh Memories, and Strong Fears
By AMY CHOZICK JAN. 2, 2017The 2007 raid was one of the hundreds of coordinated federal sweeps targeting illegal immigrant workers carried out during President George W. Bush’s second term. The headline-grabbing roundups of illegal workers slowed under the Obama administration, which has deported a record 2.5 million immigrants since 2009, largely by focusing on recent border crossers, employers who hired illegal workers and immigrants with criminal convictions.
But as President-elect Donald J. Trump prepares to take office and promises to swiftly deport two million to three million undocumented immigrants who have committed crimes, bipartisan experts say they expect a return of the raids that rounded up thousands of workers at carwashes, meatpacking plants, fruit suppliers and their homes during the Bush years.

I used to work for a federal agency. I remember that when we saw changes in any data, the first question that we always asked was whether the change was an artifact of the data collection system. It looks as if that’s what was going on here.
Trump will have to have nerves of steel to round up and deport illegals given the huge quantity of hostile press that it will generate.
Pournelle's law.
Amy Chozick seems to be the designated “stuff you’re only supposed to notice above a certain reading comprehension grade level” writer at the Times.
One of those things it’s possible to just figure out from the headlines without reading the articles. Of course Obama isn’t deporting anybody he doesn’t absolutely have to.
Rather glad now I didn’t fall for it, I’d have been embarrassed. Modern life is becoming the art of distinguishing what “information” is out there to make you waste your time and which isn’t.
Many processing centers must be placed in leafy liberal enclaves….
Then he drives them to a local wealthy lefty leafy 'burb and drops them off in the center of town--with enough money for a bus/train pass.
The guy's a shitlord.
So wait…..now the Left is going to try to pretend that W. was a massive anti-immigration hawk?
Seriously?
I guess the Left’s strategy is to throw facts down the 1984– memory hole and make it seem like the Republicans have always been against mass immigration. You know, ’cause racism.
Seriously the one thing both parties were paid to agree upon since the fall of the Soviet Union was mass immigration; the Left was even commenting on this during the election , selectively noting that until Trump the two main parties had been pro-open borders. It was seen as a “good” thing because it was an area of “common ground.”
But now….now the corporatists and donorists are ordering their blog writers to push the idea that only one party was ever for diversity in immigration: Democrats! We’re the non-racists!
It’s actually a good thing. The Left is giving up trying to purge the R’s of the Trump wing and is basically admitting the R’s are the party of immigration restriction now and hey, neocons and squishes, come on over!
Which of course will lead to the Left losing a lot more elections, which is nice.
I know a criminal attorney who, when he springs one of his clients from jail, tries to talk them into moving “far away” from the ghetto to “start over” and “get away from the bad crowd.”
Then he drives them to a local wealthy lefty leafy ‘burb and drops them off in the center of town–with enough money for a bus/train pass.
The guy’s a shitlord.

Fruit stands? How about construction companies, and the fast food industry with outdated, shitty business models! The schemers taking up college spots should also be a primary concern. Just that would take some time. Start from the top earners, and work down.
This “you can’t deport 11 million” meme combined with cell phone cameras, and Jorge Ramos is very dangerous. The cable news stories on Trump’s “deportation force” practically write themselves. Of course this could all be solved through e-verify and taxing remittances, but we all know that would be too effective to get through congress.

I’ve not seen anything to the effect of:

When the hell is the Trumpenfuhrer going to deploy the Kobach II superweapon? Trump won the swing states he needed to win because the voters of German ancestry supported one of their own. Back to blood and all that. Trump will make the open borders treasonites teeth chatter when he finally lets loose Kris Kobach.
Trump will win against the corporate propaganda apparatus every hour on the hour on the illegal alien invader issue. Kobach will calmy appear on television and detail the legal niceties of every damn thing Trump does on immigration. When the corporate propaganda whores whine about the illegal alien invaders, Kobach will tell them that the Trump administration puts the interests of the American people first.
Do not forget that the Democrats sent a mob to Kobach’s house to try to intimidate him. Kobach seems like the type who would like to deliver a policy reply to that of behaviour.
Sam Francis was right about the evil, nation-wrecking corporate propaganda apparatus. The corporate propaganda apparatus must be totally exterminated in all European Christian nations.
Workplace immigration raids are probably low bang for the buck. A lot of money to execute, a lot of backlash from the press, and a lot of illegals who, in the end, still probably don’t get deported. It may serve as a warning to other businesses, but it probably won’t since the odds of a raid are so low.
Fine businesses who use illegal immigrants. Require them to report every employee who is an illegal. Start out with a low but tolerable fine for every illegal hired then increase it each year. Give them a chance to replace their illegal workforce over a period of time.
That’s just one way to efficiently enforce immigration laws. I’m not against workplace raids, per se. They work well against the most flagrant violators but they are still just a bit of enforcement theater. When they happen I mostly just wonder which politician the business owner forgot to bribe.
The only way you're going to discover that employees are in fact illegal is to raid the workplace based on undercover information, have ICE verify the status of the suspected illegals, and then after they've determined that the suspects are indeed illegals, levy a fine on the employer.Replies: @melendwyr

Man, that must have been long ago.
Pournelle’s law.
The Left knows how to establish a political base-line by lying about reality, using perverted means, which are always to its political advantage.
In Obama’s first two years, when the Dems controlled both houses of Congress, they had the horses : if they had wanted to pass Amnesty, they could have easily done so with plenty of Republican votes to spare. What was stopping them was the prospect that they would be wiped out in 2010 and 2012.
The Dems lost the House in 2010 but kept the Senate.
After proclaiming himself a Champion of Self-Deportation in the GOP primaries, Romney lost to Obama 51%-47% (after Romney won the GOP nomination, he completely stopped talking about illegal immigration, so that in the general election, against Obama, he appeared to be just another GOP hack – – – “illegal immigration : bad. legal immigration : good” was about the size of the Romney immigration position, if even that).
Romney lost his “home state” of Michigan by 8% to Obama in 2012 (despite widespread voter fraud in Detroit, Trump won Michigan by about ten thousand votes in 2016; an Obama-appointed federal district judge stopped the Jill Stein “recount” in Michigan, just as evidence of Dem. voter fraud was being fully exposed by said “recount.” Some Detroit voting precincts were reporting a vote-return of plus 100%! – – – this had to stop! The nationwide 2016 turnout was about 55%, which means, of course, approximately 45% of all registered voters in Michigan, except Detroit, failed to cast a ballot in the recent election. It seems Detroit was trying to vote for all of Michigan’s no-shows and then some!).
The Lefty press has been consistently reporting, with a straight face, that there are 12-15 million illegal aliens, resident in the United States. This beloved bogus figure has never changed in more than 25 years of NY Times press runs! In a similar vein, one should weigh all immigration stats, originating from Obama Administration sources, with a derisive consideration of complete incredulity.
There is good reason why Obama’s nickname is “Fugazy” and it ain’t only because his Columbia University records have been missing since 2007 or his official Hawaiian Birth Certificate comprises of several layers of printing artifacts and has a font-type of different keys, taken from different typewriters, and using different space-bars and carriages! When Obama opens his mouth, facts become lies.
Remember, folks, tears! We need to see tears. Mexican tears. Round-ups with crying, red eyes, and pleading. That’s what we need. Without tears, we’re not digging deep enough. Without tears on the front page and the 7 o’clock news, we don’t know if anyone’s doing the job. Brace yourselves. Harden your hearts. And drive them back into the sea/desert.
We don’t really know how many illegal aliens are living in the US since everybody’s intention has been to lie and cover things up. They’ve been using the same number of eleven million for the past fifteen years as if things have been static and obviously that’s not the case. Many public school systems have become majority Hispanic, all children of illegals, all ‘dreamers’. Of course this has been enabled, if not actively promoted, by various all-American politicians. Although we’ve had it happening all along it wasn’t a major issue until it became a flood since Clinton-time with his NAFTA deal that helped destabilize a part of the Mexican population. They’ve all been globalists cheering on the free flow of labor-preferably cheaper labor-and consider them to be their constituents just as much as American citizens are.
In time we’ll be able to clearly see that this wasn’t accidental but was mapped out well in advance.
Fine businesses who use illegal immigrants. Require them to report every employee who is an illegal. Start out with a low but tolerable fine for every illegal hired then increase it each year. Give them a chance to replace their illegal workforce over a period of time.

That doesn’t mane any sense. They’re already required to get proof of citizenship or a green card and a SSN in order to hire someone. If they don’t they’re in violation of the law, and they’re not going to report their own infraction to the government. In fact, the Fifth Amendment’s self-incrimination clause shields them from doing so.
The only way you’re going to discover that employees are in fact illegal is to raid the workplace based on undercover information, have ICE verify the status of the suspected illegals, and then after they’ve determined that the suspects are indeed illegals, levy a fine on the employer.

Most car wash jobs should have been automated by now. Isn’t using a car wash that still relies largely on manual labor the sign of an elitist anyway?
Who can forget the terror of the Bush years? Harmless “workers” rounded up like cattle, and then shipped away to cower behind concertina wire fences in remote camps awaiting mysterious “processing” before disappearing without a trace… Or the endless, repetitive footage on the nightly news of Bush administration thugs in SWAT gear raiding Hispanic houses while smug Anglo bystanders smirked and cheered.
My family sheltered a teenage Mexican girl in a secret annex in our house until Bush’s deportation force kicked in our door one night and dragged her away. We never saw little Ana again. When will America atone for the sins of that era?
Finagling with the stats again eh? What else is new? Reminds me of when a college classmate of mine who served in ‘Nam told me how the numbers gang in the Pentagon would count a blood spore as a “kill”.
The NY times forgets , but the democrats were the party which typically opposed open borders, as the backbone of the Democratic party, even in the 1990s, were working class whites…
Bill Clinton’s legacy on immigration: “Terrible” laws he signed which ripped apart families and authorize unjust detention, Human Rights Watch says… group says 1996 laws created a system of mass detention and abuse for refugees and migrants..President Clinton in 1996 signed the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act, or IIRIRA. Human Rights Watch says the legislation “eliminated key defenses against deportation and subjected many more immigrants, including legal permanent residents, to detention and deportation.”
IIRIRA allowed the government to detain and deport immigrants, including even legal permanent U.S. residents, for a range of relatively minor, nonviolent criminal convictions.
The law also made it much more difficult for refugees to apply for asylum, the rights group says.
In the past 20 years, Human Rights Watch notes it “has documented how these laws rip apart the families of even long-term legal residents via the broad swath of criminal convictions considered triggers for automatic deportation or detention.” and few can forget when the Clinton administration even deported a Cuban , which was the first and only time a Cuban on American soil was deported back to Cuba…
I have applied.

A lot of the same people who tell us “you can’t deport 12 million people” are convinced that 300,000,000 handguns can be confiscated with no problem whatsoever.
OT: I was wondering how long it would take before the NY Times published an editorial in favor of the filibuster. During Republican Administrations, it is the position of the NY Times that the filibuster is an essential safeguard of our liberties and a check on “overzealous majorities” and must be preserved, during Democrat Administrations it is a tool of reactionary obstruction – an extra-Constitutional anachronism that should be abolished so that the will of the voters can be carried out . They flip from one position to the other whenever the White House changes hands without any sense of irony – it has as much moral significance to them as changing the clocks for DST. Today it’s time for the “essential safeguard” opinion piece (the editorial will surely follow):
http://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/04/opinion/why-republicans-shouldnt-weaken-the-filibuster.html?ref=opinion&_r=0
This is my favorite quote from the opinion piece:
“It is often written that the Senate “changed” the filibuster rule. It did nothing of the sort. Democrats voted to interpret the words “three-fifths of the senators duly chosen and sworn” to mean a simple majority. ”
This is truly Alice in Wonderland territory – if SAT whiz Chuck Schumer says that 3/5=1/2, then it must be true if he says so, for as long as he says so.
One of the things i noticed about this last year’s election cycle and all the attention that we given to immigration is how little emphasis there has been regarding electronic workplace enforcement. This is as True for Trump as it has been for the MSM and the opposition. That would seem odd because there is no one issue that would have a greater impact than background checks for employment. Workplace raids, while well deserved, are quite obsolete in this day and age of high speed computers and secure identification.
I suspect a big part of this is that this is the number one issue for the business lobby. They are keeping their powder dry hoping that the Trump Administration uses all its political capital building a wall and deporting criminal aliens, both of which are quite visible but impact a different part of the immigrant community. How Trump sequences his priorities will be extremely critical because the Paul Ryan – Cuckservative – business whores know that if Trump gives them the economic stimulus / tax cuts first his leverage will be gone and he will never get anything substantial on immigration, first and foremost being E-Verify. Trump needs to let the world know that you have to earn the carrots but the stick comes free.

Obama deliberately peddled the “deporter-in-chief” falsehood and let it get out in front of him in order to win reelection in 2012. The problem, as his second term showed, was that loud mouth pro-immigration ethnic activists weren’t sophisticated enough to see through what everyone else knew was a lie, and they squaked and squealed for “relief” from all these deportations that weren’t actually happening.
I also happen to think that the Obama White House counted any civil deportation case filed as an actual deportation, even though those rarely result in an actual physical removal. The icing on the cake is that an illegal alien gets a work permit after the deportation case is filed, and gets to use it pending the outcome of the case, and if the alien wins the case, gets to keep it. So, Obama spamming the system with deportation civil cases was a political win-win for him: (1) He got to count each such case as an actual deportation, and (2) The aliens so sued got work permits.
Trump will win against the corporate propaganda apparatus every hour on the hour on the illegal alien invader issue. Heard a bit about Hussein-the-Deporter on NPR yesterday. See, he was building his credibility on immigration enforcement, to spend on amnesty.
He can avoid all of the “poor immigrant women and children frog-marched by Trumpenfuhrer” stories by simply draining the swamp; E-Verify, crack down hard on criminal employers of criminal aliens. “Rich exploitative cheating businessmen frog-marched by Trumpenfuhrer” stories will not become a thing, because people would cheer.
Trump can do a lot to crack down on criminal employers, though. Maybe even enough to make them demand E-Verify.
Audits from the IRS would probably help. As we’ve seen from the reign of Hussein, nobody can do anything about the IRS.
In 2012, Romney allowed Obama, to be all things to all people, by failing/refusing to point out that Obama’s immigration positions evolved hourly depending on his audience. Easy to deceive the public with statistics like unemployment numbers. Kobach knows how this game is played and will be able to keep the bureaucrats honest.

Well, you really *can’t* deport these specific 12 million, because, once you actually begin to enforce the law, 10 million will leave on their own. Then, you just use simple methods like responding to reports of illegals sighted by citizens and paying rewards ($750? $1,750?) to those who turn in illegals who are more circumspect. And if 100,000 or even 500,000 slip through the net for a while, BFD.

The only good thing done in the last 25 years on immigration was when Clinton put the systematic hiring of illegals under the RICO statutes. Of course, very few companies have been prosecuted and the justice department routinely announces a big fine and conviction then negotiates the fine down to pennies on the dollar when nobody is looking but the law is in place to cripple any company that depends on hiring illegals.
You don’t have to lie on your federal job application; just don’t be a current toker and don’t apply for a job that requires a security clearance. You can get a security clearance if you are a poofter, but not if you are a pothead. After all, which one is more dangerous? 😉
I have not ruled it out either, I could quit now (I mostly have, but don't say no at parties!), but the other issue is wrapping up my business obligations in a way that is fair to my partners and customers would take at least a year.

Fines? If illegals are found, why not simply charge the expense of the raid to the company?

i don’t see mass deportations or raids as necessary. Mexican immigrants understand that our system is a wink and a nod. A picture on a piece of plastic suffices as Id to enter contracts, cross back and forth at the border, obtain employment or limitless healthcare at emergency rooms. End it. Build a wall, check for verifiable Id traveling both directions across an impenetrable border wall. We will get what we want through attrition.
