Here at iSteve, I’m on the Emmett Till Beat beat 24×7, covering all the stop-the-presses coverage of the latest developments in the ever-evolving Emmett Till story, such as this new New York Times news story about an Emmett Till sign being briefly unaccounted for this week:

Q uestions Swirl After Yet Another Emmett Till Sign Comes Down

A historical marker that stood outside the Mississippi shop where 14-year-old Emmett Till encountered the woman who accused him of whistling at her, may have been toppled by a truck. But a historical center is reluctant to call it an accident.

An Emmett Till historical marker in Money, Miss., was briefly unaccounted for this week.

Sept. 4, 2021

By Isabella Grullón Paz

On its secret runway at LaGuardia, the Em-Men’s Em-Jet is always ready to roll

The Emmett Till Beat is, of course, the most prestigious and lavishly resourced assignment at the New York Times.

But there is always so much late-breaking Emmett Till news that the job quickly chews up and spits out even the most dedicated and ambitious reporters:

When it was notified this week that another sign commemorating Emmett Till had disappeared, the Emmett Till Interpretive Center had every reason to be worried.

… On Thursday, the center announced on Twitter that the historical marker in front of the site of the former Bryant’s Grocery & Meat Market in Money, Miss. — where Emmett went to buy candy and was later accused of flirting with the white shopkeeper, eventually leading to his lynching by two white men — was gone.

But Allan Hammons, whose public relations firm made the marker for the Mississippi Freedom Trail, which was created in 2011 to commemorate the people and places in the state that played a pivotal role in the American civil rights movement, said that he suspected no foul play.

On Tuesday, shortly after Mr. Hammons received a call saying that the sign was “missing or damaged,” a colleague visited the site and saw the marker lying on the ground, Mr. Hammons recalled in a phone interview on Saturday. He then asked the Leflore County Road and Bridge Department to retrieve and store the sign until he could evaluate if it needed to be repaired or replaced. When Mr. Hammons surveyed the site after the placard had been picked up, he saw large tire tracks that he said could have belonged to a “utility type truck.”

His guess is that a truck driver may have inadvertently backed into the post, perhaps without even realizing it.

“Oftentimes this happens,” Mr. Hammons said, estimating that his firm loses five to six historical markers each summer to human error. Mr. Hammons added that he had no way to know if this instance was intentional or accidental.

But the Emmett Till Interpretive Center is reluctant to write off the incident as an accident, given the history of vandalism of signs memorializing the boy’s death.

… “We’re tired of this, you know?” Mr. Weems said. “Regardless of whether this was an accident or not, there is a clear pattern of violence against these signs, and we think it’s time for the federal government to step up and take responsibility for this national American story.”

If Mr. Weems is tired, think how exhausted the black women at the Emmett Till Interpretive Center must be.

    Same people for same purpose.

Anne and Emmett is a play by the American Janet Langhart Cohen. It explores an imaginary conversation between Emmett Till, an African-American, and Anne Frank, a German-Dutch Jew, which takes place in Memory, a non-specific afterlife or alternative dimension. They were killed as young teenagers because of racial persecution. The play recounts the lives of Till and Frank, comparing and contrasting the events in their lives and deaths.[1]

The show features recorded narration by Morgan Freeman, and a score by Joshua Coyne.[2]

…The New York City Police Department has had the play produced for audiences of its police officers, using it to teach tolerance.[5]

And then you wonder why noone wants to play with you.

Both topics have been analysed to death.
Two white men murdered a black teen who made unwanted advances towards a white woman. What part of it is fiction?
A state apparatus targeted and murdered x million Jews (where 5 < x < 6). What part of it is fiction?

Funny how more than 99% of the dead that Adolf and his cronies left behind were white people. So much for a blood libel!

    The blood libel thing--yeah.

But Hitler/Nazis actually were doing Old Testament style total war--kill the women and children too--against the Jews. (And this was against the grain of European war--while lethal for combatants--had become less deadly for civilians. The Germans, Japanese, Soviets and British and Americans--mostly through the air--reversed that in WWII with civilians killed by the millions.)

In contrast, the striking thing about the Till deal is how personal it was.

The violence wasn't generally against "blacks". And there was no "mob".

Basically Till violated the social norms that allowed the Bryants to operate a country store out in the boonies. (Engaging in the sort of black assholery that we're all familiar with.) His cousins told him not to do it, and knew Till had really stepped in it. His Uncle knew he'd screwed up, but thought the retribution would be an old style ass kicking--hopefully knock some sense into him. Only his Aunt comes off as sensible. (A black woman the most sensible person! LOL.) She wanted to put Till on the train immediately and get him out of there.

But Carolyn Bryant's husband was more pissed--feeling humiliated. (Having his brother along instead of promoting sense, probably made it worse.) And Till was such an unapologetic asshole that this spun all the way up to murder.

Contra narrative, no one thought this was right. The town did not. The white jury did not. But they didn't see great alternatives either. They didn't want to legitimize what Till did--or they wouldn't be able to maintain white norms anymore. (This is the sort of sad story that "diversity" gives you.)

No one, was in favor of what Till did or what Bryant and his brother did.

Except ... for the minoritarian propagandists in the East Coast media. A field day of blood libeling white southerners over the crappy behavior of three crappy people.

Just like Steve has an Emmett Till count for The NY Times, I have a Jew/Israel count for Steve Sailer commenters. How fast and how frequently are Jews (or Jewish topics) raised after an unrelated Steve Sailer post that has absolutely nothing to do with Jews or Israel? It is just as fun as counting Emmett Till mentions in The NY Times. This one was fast.

Hey Mr. Sailer, you love statistics. Can we get a frequency and speed count on this?

To be almost ridiculously sweeping: baby boomers and their offspring have shifted emphasis from the communal to the individual, from the future to the present, from virtue to personal satisfaction. Increasingly secular, we pledge allegiance to lower-case gods of our private devising. We are less concerned with leading a good life than the good life. We are less likely than our predecessors to ask ourselves whether we serve a greater social purpose; we are more likely to ask if we are happy. We shun values such as self-sacrifice and duty as the pitfalls of suckers. We give little thought to the perpetuation of lineage, culture or nation; we take our heritage for granted. We are ahistorical. We measure the value of our lives within the brackets of our own births and deaths, and don’t especially care what happens once we’re dead. As we age – oh, so reluctantly! – we are apt to look back on our pasts and ask not ‘Did I serve family, God and country?’ but ‘Did I ever get to Cuba, or run a marathon? Did I take up landscape painting? Was I fat?’ We will assess the success of our lives in accordance not with whether they were righteous, but with whether they were interesting and fun.

Lionel Shriver's piece in The Spectator (that The Guardian takes exception to) was pretty based:

“The white British proportion of the population has fallen from 89 per cent to 79 per cent, while ethnic minorities have grown from 10 per cent to 21 per cent . . . Try reversing the paradigm. If white westerners were immigrating by the tens of millions to developing nations - if Liverpudlians were pouring into Lagos - the left would decry the mass migration as neocolonialism . . . white Britons needn’t submissively accept the drastic ethnic and religious transformation of their country as an inevitable fate they’re morally required to embrace without a peep of protest.”

The interesting thing to me about the Taliban Christmas-in-August military unboxing, is wouldn’t it be pretty easy to remove the expensive electronics, thereby disabling the most outwardly-lethal aspects of the equipment before the goatherds go joyriding? Couldn’t we have called up a few Ed Snowdens to knock that out over a July 4th weekend?

Even with such evidence of MIC’s incompetence I can’t believe *no one* had the self-incentive and moxie to snaffle the valuable intellectual property — microprocessors, specialty motors, etc. etc. — which isn’t heavy and probably won’t be noticed missing by anyone you don’t want to notice, whether in Islamabad or Washington D.C., if that was ever a strategy of leaving the machinery of death like so (a big “if”).

Perhaps as with the Baghdad museum in 2003, what I’m suggesting did in fact happen, as would be logical, and our clueless puppet media just is too unaware, in-the-tank with spooks, and/or distracted by the fun crisis narrative to report that. I’m really not persuaded that we upgraded Tal’s or anyone in the region to Tom Clancy level of ops.

Most had reached their peak by 1930, one as early as 1890, one as late as 1980. a population loss (compared with the peak) of 1/3 is quite normal. In the case of one county, the population is off 90%. Even the imploding rural counties in Kansas and Nebraska aren't doing this badly.

And he played no role at all in anything of consequence. He was a crime victim. I think there were around 8,000 homicides in 1955 (with 200-odd in Mississippi). Hey Art, I have a question for you. I’m constantly impressed by how much stuff you know, and maybe this is another one of those things you know about. The question is not completely off-topic, being about another one of the Holy Martyrs (the Holiest Holy Martyr, even) of the Holy Civil Rights Movement.

When the GLOAT (= Greatest Lifeform Of All Time, AKA MLK) went to Stockholm with his entourage to receive his Nobel Peace Prize, there was some awkward stuff in the hotel where they were staying, involving naked Swedish prostitutes running down the hallways of the hotel. MLK’s gay acolyte Bayard Rustin managed to keep it out of the news somehow. Do you know what that was all about? Maybe the whores thought they were being paid to service just one guy and found out they were each expected to service the whole crew (except for Bayard, of course)? Or they thought the services requested were a bit too exotic? Or maybe the ladies were just being exuberant?

Upon arrival, they posed the object on the beach, and promptly mailed a photo to the owners with a caption – – “Enjoying spring break in Florida, wish you were here!” The owners, probably already expecting the photo, got a good laugh and knew that their object would soon return home from its vacation. College pranks. Fun from another era.

You are "pushing" (when did that word become so fashionable?) a false equivalence, just like the Republicans seeking to impeach Mr. Biden about a phone call to the then president of Afghanistan asking for a political favor.

The Afghanistan call would only be equivalent if, say, Governor DeSantis had a son who got bounced out of the US Navy for consuming too many drugs, if this son had this "thing" going with the widow of another son who tragically passed from an illness, where the druggie son later made Mr. DeSantis a grandfather by way of an "exotic dancer", who had a side-hustle going in Afghanistan involving its immense potential for supplying lithium and other necessary materials for electric cars also had a laptop computer that he simply left in a repair shop, containing an e-mail boasting about the need to kick back 10% of his receipts from that side-hustle to "Mr. Big", meaning Ron DeSantis.

The Republican call for impeachment would only be equivalent then if Mr. DeSantis had visited Afghanistan and bragged about putting pressure on the then government of Afghanistan to fire a prosecutor investigating the goings on the Afghanistan's big lithium mining consortium. Finally, if President Biden in his recent call to the then president of Afghanistan hinted that this leader should conduct an investigation into the doings of Mr. DeSantis' ner do well son, then and only then should the Repubs impeach President Biden.

Oh, and only if there was in the US Military some full-faced Lieutenant Colonel who was an Afghani immigrant who was willing to testify that he was listening in on the phone call, and it was simply awful.

  66. I just got around to actually reading the recent Atlantic story about the Emmett Till barn, and was extremely surprised to see this:

Reed was heading to a nearby country store to get breakfast. He saw a green-and-white Chevrolet pickup truck turn onto the path that led up to the barn. Four white men sat shoulder to shoulder in the cab; in the back three Black men sat with a terrified Black child. The child was Emmett Till.

Huh?!? This was the first time I’d heard that blacks had been involved! This struck me as a remarkable fact, and I assumed the article would have more to say about it, but nope, it didn’t come up again. Wikipedia has it as “two white men in the front seat, and ‘two black males’ in the back”, but doesn’t have much to say about it either. Does anyone have any additional information on this, or is it just a total mystery?

The Emmett Till story is like the Holocaust encompassed is a single person. Fact and fiction mixed with emotionalism. All for the purpose of blood libeling white people.

    The blood libel thing–yeah.

But Hitler/Nazis actually were doing Old Testament style total war–kill the women and children too–against the Jews. (And this was against the grain of European war–while lethal for combatants–had become less deadly for civilians. The Germans, Japanese, Soviets and British and Americans–mostly through the air–reversed that in WWII with civilians killed by the millions.)

In contrast, the striking thing about the Till deal is how personal it was.

The violence wasn’t generally against “blacks”. And there was no “mob”.

Basically Till violated the social norms that allowed the Bryants to operate a country store out in the boonies. (Engaging in the sort of black assholery that we’re all familiar with.) His cousins told him not to do it, and knew Till had really stepped in it. His Uncle knew he’d screwed up, but thought the retribution would be an old style ass kicking–hopefully knock some sense into him. Only his Aunt comes off as sensible. (A black woman the most sensible person! LOL.) She wanted to put Till on the train immediately and get him out of there.

But Carolyn Bryant’s husband was more pissed–feeling humiliated. (Having his brother along instead of promoting sense, probably made it worse.) And Till was such an unapologetic asshole that this spun all the way up to murder.

Contra narrative, no one thought this was right. The town did not. The white jury did not. But they didn’t see great alternatives either. They didn’t want to legitimize what Till did–or they wouldn’t be able to maintain white norms anymore. (This is the sort of sad story that “diversity” gives you.)

No one, was in favor of what Till did or what Bryant and his brother did.

Except … for the minoritarian propagandists in the East Coast media. A field day of blood libeling white southerners over the crappy behavior of three crappy people.

If the jews have anything to say about it (they will) "holocaust™ transference syndrome", (invented by two jewish psychiatrists to keep the holohoax (oops, I mean holocaust™) shekels flowing) will be used to absolve Emmett Till of his attempted rape of the woman shopkeeper.

"Holocaust™ transference syndrome" is presently being used by jews to keep the (fake) "holocaust™" story alive as well as to extract more shekels for children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of so-called "holocaust™ survivors", many of whom never left Miami or New York City.

It's only a matter of time until "rapist transference syndrome" is used to exonerate Emmett Till...

    Replies: @Inquiring Mind

You are “pushing” (when did that word become so fashionable?) a false equivalence, just like the Republicans seeking to impeach Mr. Biden about a phone call to the then president of Afghanistan asking for a political favor.

The Afghanistan call would only be equivalent if, say, Governor DeSantis had a son who got bounced out of the US Navy for consuming too many drugs, if this son had this “thing” going with the widow of another son who tragically passed from an illness, where the druggie son later made Mr. DeSantis a grandfather by way of an “exotic dancer”, who had a side-hustle going in Afghanistan involving its immense potential for supplying lithium and other necessary materials for electric cars also had a laptop computer that he simply left in a repair shop, containing an e-mail boasting about the need to kick back 10% of his receipts from that side-hustle to “Mr. Big”, meaning Ron DeSantis.

The Republican call for impeachment would only be equivalent then if Mr. DeSantis had visited Afghanistan and bragged about putting pressure on the then government of Afghanistan to fire a prosecutor investigating the goings on the Afghanistan’s big lithium mining consortium. Finally, if President Biden in his recent call to the then president of Afghanistan hinted that this leader should conduct an investigation into the doings of Mr. DeSantis’ ner do well son, then and only then should the Repubs impeach President Biden.

Oh, and only if there was in the US Military some full-faced Lieutenant Colonel who was an Afghani immigrant who was willing to testify that he was listening in on the phone call, and it was simply awful.

Huh?!? This was the first time I'd heard that blacks had been involved! This struck me as a remarkable fact, and I assumed the article would have more to say about it, but nope, it didn't come up again. Wikipedia has it as "two white men in the front seat, and 'two black males' in the back", but doesn't have much to say about it either. We measure the value of our lives within the brackets of our own births and deaths, and don't especially care what happens once we're dead. As we age - oh, so reluctantly! - we are apt to look back on our pasts and ask not 'Did I serve family, God and country?' but 'Did I ever get to Cuba, or run a marathon? Did I take up landscape painting? Was I fat?' We will assess the success of our lives in accordance not with whether they were righteous, but with whether they were interesting and fun.

Lionel Shriver’s piece in The Spectator (that The Guardian takes exception to) was pretty based:

“The white British proportion of the population has fallen from 89 per cent to 79 per cent, while ethnic minorities have grown from 10 per cent to 21 per cent . . . Try reversing the paradigm. If white westerners were immigrating by the tens of millions to developing nations – if Liverpudlians were pouring into Lagos – the left would decry the mass migration as neocolonialism . . . white Britons needn’t submissively accept the drastic ethnic and religious transformation of their country as an inevitable fate they’re morally required to embrace without a peep of protest.”

I think there may have been an grant in 2011 for \$50k that seems to gotten the thing started. I limited by searches by using site:.gov to try to track the money. That means that Mr. Weems has another job and this is a side gig.

The Emmett Till story is like the Holocaust encompassed is a single person

“Black soldiers represented 50 percent of the soldiers executed for murder, 83 percent for rape, and 25 percent for murder/rape. No white soldiers were executed for rape. Sixty-one percent of the victims were females; 94 percent were white. Seventy-eight percent of the victims were civilian; 22 percent were military.”

I must have missed something. Please explain something which surely cannot be as silly as it reads at first sight. The way Emmet Till may have turned out has absolutely NOTHING to do with any logical or ethical point.

Are you saying the boy was not murdered by a couple of local white men? Are you saying that that is not a heinous crime? Are you denying that most people would regard it as fact that the boy was brutally murdered?

One interesting excerpt from page 94 of the FBI document I mentioned above available at

As part of Leslie F. Milam’s (J.W. Milam’s brother) statements to a confidential source.

Two blacks, who worked for the Milams, were part of the group that beat and killed Till. One of the blacks discovered Till wasn’t dead so the two blacks killed him and helped in the disposal of his body.

How come Louis Till (Emmet Till's father) does not have a museum or at least a monument ???

Yes,he and his buddy Fred A. McMurray killed one Italian woman and raped 2 more...

But only because he was traumatized by evil ray-ciss US Army in 1945 and provocatively dressed Italian women...

Your question: /How come Louis Till (Emmet Till’s father) does not have a museum or at least a monument ???/
    …deserves an answer.

If the jews have anything to say about it (they will) “holocaust™ transference syndrome”, (invented by two jewish psychiatrists to keep the holohoax (oops, I mean holocaust™) shekels flowing) will be used to absolve Emmett Till of his attempted rape of the woman shopkeeper.

“Holocaust™ transference syndrome” is presently being used by jews to keep the (fake) “holocaust™” story alive as well as to extract more shekels for children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of so-called “holocaust™ survivors”, many of whom never left Miami or New York City.

It’s only a matter of time until “rapist transference syndrome” is used to exonerate Emmett Till…

  132. Here are true (corrected) stories about “icons” of the so-called “civil rights” movement . . .

There is much more to the “Emmett Till” story that is not widely known. Of course, killing him made him into a “martyr” of the black “civil-rights” movement, but–it is not generally known that Emmett Till was a strapping young man of about 160 lbs.–NOT a “little boy” as some media types tried to portray him as.
He was a known womanizer and attempted to take his cocky “Chicago ways” in dealing with women to the Deep South. He was sent to live with relatives in the South because his Chicago relatives could not handle him. He had a “cocky attitude” and bragged about “getting it on” with white women–not a good idea especially in the South. . .
According to published accounts, Mr. Till did not just “whistle” at a white woman, but grabbed, manhandled and fondled a married white woman. In Southern culture, this was, and still is, the ultimate form of disrespect and even today, would be considered criminal assault.
Despite Mr. Till’s relatives’ attempts to spirit him “out of town” to avoid retribution by the woman’s relatives and townspeople, his cocky attitude “got in the way”.
Despite being given numerous “chances” to apologize for his behavior, he was defiant to the end. IF he had apologized for his behavior, he would still be alive today. In fact, two of his killers were black men.
It is interesting to note that Emmett Till’s father was executed by the U S military for multiple rapes. Maybe “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” . . .

Rosa Parks was not the “ordinary” black woman that so-called historians made her to be. She was an organizer for the NAACP and was “planted” in order to advance the cause of black “civil-rights” to which she was successful.
Approximately a year previous to Rosa Parks’ “bus ride” and refusal to vacate her seat, a REAL ordinary black woman did the same thing. This black woman received NO publicity or support from the NAACP or other black “civil-rights” organizations. You see, she was an unmarried black woman with children. According to the black civil-rights crowd, this would not do. They wanted someone who was “squeaky clean” without any “baggage”.
In fact, the “white guy” sitting behind her was part of the “set-up”. He was a UPI reporter, contracted to “stage” the event…not only that, in the photo there is no one else on the bus. Ms. Parks could have sat wherever she wanted.
Hence, Rosa Parks made (fabricated) history . . .

Martin Luther (Michael) King was well-known for frequenting prostitutes, beating and abusing them while exclaiming that he “finally felt like a white man”. His own associates have stated as such. He also plagiarized his college papers and doctoral thesis. Of course, this was overlooked because of his status. King was also a rabid communist.

Jesse Jackson used to brag to his associates on how he would spit in the food of white patrons of the restaurant he worked at.

There are many more fabrications of history that were used to lend “legitimacy” to the so-called “civil-rights” movement . . .

    More to come . . .

A historical marker that stood outside the Mississippi shop where 14-year-old Emmett Till encountered the woman who accused him of whistling at her….

It’s heart breaking to know that there was a time in America, where a young man of color could be brutality lynched for nothing more than whistling at a white woman.

I’d love to visit the Emmett Till Interpretive Center.

But, why is there no Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom Interpretive Center?

He did far more than whistle at her. Her assaulted her in the store by putting his hands on her waist and drawing her in toward him. That is a physical assault. She testified to that effect at her husband’s trial. Moreover, as the blacks were leaving she rushed to her sister-in-law’s car to get a pistol. He whistled at her while she was in the process of getting the pistol.

The whistling took place after the assault. Get the facts and don’t fall for this liberal propaganda.

It seems they were in the store alone. Page 40 of the FBI document has an account.

Carolyn Bryant-Donham: During the trial of J.W. Milam and Roy Bryant for the murder of Emmett Till, Bryant-Donham testified on behalf of the defense, out of the presence of the jury. Bryant-Donham stated that on the evening of August 24, 1955 she was tending the store alone. Her sister-in-law, Juanita Milam, was in the living quarters at the rear of the store, taking care of the Milam and Bryant children. At about 3:00 p.m., a "nigger man came in the store and he stopped there at the candy case." Bryant-Donham waited on the customer, but did not recall at the time of her testimony what he had purchased. Bryant-Donham placed the item on the candy case and held her right hand out for the money. Instead of taking the money from her hand the customer "caught my hand", holding her hand by grasping all the fingers in the palm of his hand with a strong grip. When he grabbed her hand he asked "How about a date, baby?" Bryant-Donham "jerked" her hand loose and turned to go to the back of the store. The customer followed her down the counter to the cash register, "caught" her by the waist with his hands and said, "What's the matter, baby? Can't you take it?" Bryant-Donham, with difficulty, freed herself from his grasp. He then stated, "You needn't be afraid of me " and used language Bryant-Donham did not use, including "one unprintable word", and "with white women before." Bryant-Donham stated this incident left her "just scared to death." About that time "this other nigger came in the store and got him by the arm", telling the customer "come on and let's go". The customer left the store unwillingly, stating as he went out "Good-by". Upon the

Pp. 42-43 has the (significantly redacted) account of the person who came in as Till was leaving. Page 43 is not OCRed.

Page 44 has a confidential source who claims being present at the store, but does not describe exactly where (which seems an important detail to omit!). From reading that it seems quite possible they were outside with a view of the counter, but who knows? Page 45 has a note which appears to be connected about someone not being present at the store, but impossible to tell the meaning with all of the redactions.

I find the whistle (testified to by multiple people I understand) suggestive that something happened in the store.
  138. Did anyone else testify to this? It’s not as if they were alone in the woods.

It was a Murder Trial, presumably the Prosecution called Mrs Bryant as a hostile witness in an attempt to establish motive.
On the other hand, perhaps the prosecution did introduce witnesses who gave evidence about Till’s actions and the Defense called Mrs Bryant to partially refute the seriousness of the assault on her..
According to the recent Atlantic article, some of Till’s surviving Mississippi acquaintancers dispute Mrs Bryant’s evidence and want her prosecuted.
