As more Somali refugees arrive in St. Cloud, white anti-immigration activists have pressed an increasingly explicit anti-Muslim agenda.

June 20, 2019ST. CLOUD, Minn. — John Palmer, a former university professor, has always had a cause. For decades he urged Minnesota officials to face the dangers of drunken driving and embrace seatbelts. Now he has a new goal: curbing the resettlement of Somali refugees in St. Cloud, after a few thousand moved into this small city where Mr. Palmer has lived for decades.
Every weekday, he sits in the same spot at Culver’s restaurant — the corner booth near the Kwik Trip — and begins his daily intake of news from xenophobic and conspiratorial sites, such as JihadWatch.org, and articles with titles like “Lifting the Veil on the ‘Islamophobia’ Hoax.” On Thursdays, Mr. Palmer hosts a group called Concerned Community Citizens, or C-Cubed, which he formed to pressure local officials over the Muslim refugees. Mr. Palmer said at a recent meeting he viewed them as innately less intelligent than the “typical” American citizen, as well as a threat.
“The very word ‘Islamophobia’ is a false narrative,” Mr. Palmer, 70, said. “A phobia is an irrational fear.” Raising his voice, he added, “An irrational fear! There are many reasons we are not being irrational.”
In this predominantly white region of central Minnesota, the influx of Somalis, most of whom are Muslim, has spurred the sort of demographic and cultural shifts that President Trump and right-wing conservatives have stoked fears about for years. The resettlement has divided many politically active residents of St. Cloud, with some saying they welcome the migrants.
But for others, the changes have fueled talk about “white replacement,” a racist conspiracy theory tied to the declining birthrates of white Americans that has spread in far-right circles and online chat rooms and is now surfacing in some communities.
Such evil conspiracy theorists must be replaced.
“If we start changing our way of life to accommodate where they came from, guess what happens to our country?” said Liz Baklaich, a member of C-Cubed who unsuccessfully ran for St. Cloud City Council last year. She carries an annotated Quran in her purse. “If our country becomes like Somalia, there is nowhere for us to go.”
Minnesota’s biggest city, Minneapolis, has long struggled to incorporate a growing immigrant population into the city’s fabric, but the recent ascension of some former refugees into political power was taken as a sign of progress by many liberals. In central Minnesota, which is more conservative than the state’s urban centers, advocates for refugees fear that the resettlements could be met with more resistance.
Dave Kleis, the mayor of St. Cloud and a longtime Republican who now identifies as an independent, has voiced support for the resettlement program, but he has also drawn criticism for not forcefully denouncing groups like C-Cubed, which he refused to discuss in an interview. Mr. Kleis said the city was facing the same challenges as other parts of Minnesota and other changing communities around the country. St. Cloud, the state’s 10th-largest city, increased in population by 33 percent over the last 30 years, to roughly 70,000 people. The share of nonwhite residents grew to 18 percent from 2 percent, mostly with East African immigrants from Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia, and the numbers of Somalis are estimated to grow.
Obviously, these racist xenophobes like Dr. Palmer deserve their replacement for being so deplorable as to subscribe to the conspiracy theory that the New York Times wants to replace them. It’s not that the NYT hates them and wants to see them chased down in their podunk town and demographically overwhelmed. It’s just that they deserve that fate.

That “one woman” happens to be Kim Crockett, one of the higher-ups at the Center of the American Experiment in Minneapolis, a neocon think tank restricting themselves to domestic issues. In other words, they do more good than harm.
Kind of a prairie version of the Manhattan Institute. Likewise, there is the Mackinac Institute in Michigan, and a similar group in Wisconsin whose name escapes me at the moment. (Paleo, can you help here?)
St Cloud is the buckle of the German Catholic belt of central Minnesota, so comparisons to pushy Norwegian Lutherans may not be the best. However, conflicts between natives and Somalis are not the fault of the natives, and not so much of the Somalis, either. Blame the resettlement agencies, who are rarely held to task.
However, Catholic Charities locally seems to have abandoned resettlement efforts to help fellow Americans. Thanks to local churchgoers’ pressure. Let’s see if Lutheran Social Services gets the message.
The conflict is not with the Somalis who are genial dorks just like the native German-Catholic and Norwegian-Lutheran dorks. The major problem is that the our government and institutions are so arthritic with political correctness that whites are suddenly third-class citizens in the face of "gap closing", "diversity", extortions.
We in "White Cloud" -- maybe 98% white in 2000, were told about the "benefits of diversity" that would be coming. What that really meant is that skin color would be a factor in hiring and other programs. A few years ago in rapid succession we got a black transit chief, a black police chief, and a black school superintendant.
Kowtowing to the PC klan took root. A couple years ago a Somali Muslim stabbed ten people in the local mall, being careful to avoid fellow Muslims. Thankfully a gun range owner with a CCW permit shot and killed the attacker. The police did a fine job of crowd control and preserving evidence against a dead guy. The mayor and politicians' immediate reaction was to rally behind the Somali community behind the unfounded fear of retaliation from the hicks that never came.
The Somalis seem to have lots of health transport vans and child-care centers that seem a little shady, but no proof yet. They manage to have scored lots of programs within the school district and government that somehow benefits them but not the local Scandahoovians.
We have gone from non-discrimination delivered through indifference to race to "non-discrimination" through quotas. Our skin color was not a negative factor until we had "gaps" to close.
The first generation Somalis are quiet and shy but the next generation is being fed a diet of entitled indignation such as Ilhan Omar. That, unfortunately looks to be our future.
We are not against the Somalis, we are against the craven government and institutions who have their litigation insurance paid with the civil rights of whites. Back during the Ferguson, MO riots in 2014, Steve suggested that the NY Times had better things to do than to worry about a little town 1000 miles away. There was plenty of police abuse, such as stop-and-frisk, taking place in their own backyard. But they were concentrating on Ferguson because the big city elites want to dump their blacks onto flyover country via government vouchers to free up that valuable real estate in the cities.
Likewise, why is the NY Times worried about a middling city over 1200 miles away? Me thinks they want to make sure middle America continues to accept immigrants. Recall the furor when Trump suggested resettling migrants to sanctuary cities. They don’t want them. They want us to take them and simultaneously water down our votes and destroy our cohesion.

PS. Minnesota is one state that Hillary won that Trump might, I say might, be able to flip. He lost it by 45K votes. If John Palmer is indicative of Whites in MN, Trump might have a chance here. He might need MN as a backup in case he loses one of the other Great Lakes states he flipped.

I agree with the poster who said that if both TX and FL flip 10 years from now, we are (barring some type of separation) done. Under those circumstances a Republican could not win even if he flipped VA back.
I will say, however, that I'm not as certain that FL, where I vote now through my father's retirement property to avoid a useless NY vote, will demographically flip, at least not in the next 10. TX and AZ seem more likely.
If TX and AZ flip happens, then even should he win FL, the Republican candidate would also need to win both MN and NH each election in addition to PA/MI/WI to get over 270...and preferably those ME and NE districts for good measure. The only real hope beyond 2036 or so is for better immigration measures from the current President to slow things down AND for white normies to wake up to the existential threat.

It is somewhat of a wave effect. It is harder for Trump to win Minnesota than the other rust belt, upper Midwest states. If he does 3-5% worse in Michigan and Wisconsin, it is unlikely he wins Minnesota.

Is there any conceivable end to Somali refugees? It seems like there have been Somali refugees for my entire life, and they’ve made the exact same sorts of trouble whether in the US, England, Canada, Australia or Kenya. If your country is producing refugees for three consecutive decades, then unless it was hit by a succession of asteroids, there’s probably something deeply defective about your country’s culture that prevents it from forming a functioning civil society.
So other countries who take refugees from such a country in might reasonably be wary of their importation of their beliefs and customs, rather than encouraging them to integrate as little as possible. Given that leftists are constantly harping on and on about how there are more refugees than ever, it would seem western nations can afford to:
a)Be choosy about which refugees they admit
b)Only admit refugees for which there appears to be some likelihood of returning home within a decade or so, in order to help as many refugees as possible.
Somalis fail on both counts.
There’s also an idea that refugees should have the right to permanently resettle in a western nation, regardless of developments back home. Has this idea been mainstream since the beginning of international refugee law or did it only begin once western political parties realized the utility of importing voters and giving them free stuff? It would seem to contradict the use of the word refuge in the English language. I might take refuge under a tree during a downpour. It doesn’t mean I plan on spending the rest of my life there.
Smart western governments might consider resettling Somalis in Somaliland, which appears more functional than the rest. Of course it could be that the clans won’t mix and bloodshed might break out, but that’s Somalis for you. Worth a try anyway.
Or they could say something along the lines of “We’ve been helping Somalis for decades, lets help some one else.” I’d do a one-for-one Somali-Rohingya trade in a heartbeat.

In 1984, when he won every single other state, Ronald Reagan lost Minnesota by less than 4,000 votes, with a 0.18% margin of victory for Mondale.

I agree with this as part of the–long term–prescription. Basically, the “standard” for an intelligent middle class couple, this healthy in body, finances and marriage should be three kids not two. Two as “standard” means that all the non-married, late-married and various misfires will give you severe sub-replacement.
But this part of the prescription is distinctly 2nd tier. White fertility across the West would not be a crisis … but for immigration. There’s nothing wrong with your population having a little dip then squaring up again.
This particular dip is really the adjustment to prosperity, the birth control pill and feminism. Yes, there’s some really nasty cultural work that’s been done–an infection introduced. But regardless we’d be in this process of selection. We’re winnowing out the genes of the sort of women who with prosperity and choice do not reproduce themselves. At the end we will–or at least we would if left alone–have a smaller population, but one selected for reproduction. Rabbits and foxes. (Or in my neighborhood coyotes.) Prosperity, feminism and the Pill are preferentially eating some humans not others. In the end, we’ll end up with a population capable of reproducing in modernity.
But we’ve got to get to “in the end”–the recovery with pro-family genes. And we don’t get there, when instead of letting the selection play out, we’re flooded with foreigners.
That–flooded with foreigners, the invasion–is what’s killing us. Nothing else. With that, even having three, four, five … ten kids and our nations are still being invaded, we’re still dying.

So other countries who take refugees from such a country in might reasonably be wary of their importation of their beliefs and customs, rather than encouraging them to integrate as little as possible. Given that leftists are constantly harping on and on about how there are more refugees than ever, it would seem western nations can afford to:
a)Be choosy about which refugees they admit
b)Only admit refugees for which there appears to be some likelihood of returning home within a decade or so, in order to help as many refugees as possible.
Somalis fail on both counts.
There's also an idea that refugees should have the right to permanently resettle in a western nation, regardless of developments back home. Has this idea been mainstream since the beginning of international refugee law or did it only begin once western political parties realized the utility of importing voters and giving them free stuff? It would seem to contradict the use of the word refuge in the English language. I might take refuge under a tree during a downpour. It doesn't mean I plan on spending the rest of my life there.

St Cloud is the buckle of the German Catholic belt of central Minnesota, so comparisons to pushy Norwegian Lutherans may not be the best. The conflict is not with the Somalis who are genial dorks just like the native German-Catholic and Norwegian-Lutheran dorks. The major problem is that the our government and institutions are so arthritic with political correctness that whites are suddenly third-class citizens in the face of “gap closing”, “diversity”, extortions.
We in “White Cloud” — maybe 98% white in 2000, were told about the “benefits of diversity” that would be coming. What that really meant is that skin color would be a factor in hiring and other programs. A few years ago in rapid succession we got a black transit chief, a black police chief, and a black school superintendant.
Kowtowing to the PC klan took root. A couple years ago a Somali Muslim stabbed ten people in the local mall, being careful to avoid fellow Muslims. Thankfully a gun range owner with a CCW permit shot and killed the attacker. The police did a fine job of crowd control and preserving evidence against a dead guy. The mayor and politicians’ immediate reaction was to rally behind the Somali community behind the unfounded fear of retaliation from the hicks that never came.
The Somalis seem to have lots of health transport vans and child-care centers that seem a little shady, but no proof yet. They manage to have scored lots of programs within the school district and government that somehow benefits them but not the local Scandahoovians.
We have gone from non-discrimination delivered through indifference to race to “non-discrimination” through quotas. Our skin color was not a negative factor until we had “gaps” to close.
The first generation Somalis are quiet and shy but the next generation is being fed a diet of entitled indignation such as Ilhan Omar. That, unfortunately looks to be our future.
We are not against the Somalis, we are against the craven government and institutions who have their litigation insurance paid with the civil rights of whites. It is the institutions who are paying PC klan extortion whom we hate.

Whether Somali intelligence relative to typical Americans is innate or environmental is subject to empirical determination. And knowing which is true might help us determine appropriate policies for dealing with difficult situations.

You can find an entry like that for literally any major U.S. city, if you search hard enough. There are dozens of articles claiming each and every major U.S. city (and most of the medium-sized ones too) are “hotbeds” of both anti-Semitism, and racism more generally. I’m not sure if those articles were all just organically written by true believers, or whether someone in the Establishment got them planted all over the internet, presumably in order that there would always be an endless supply of material for SJW activists to use in order to back up their outlandish claims. But the claim that such-and-such city is one of the very worst, most anti-Semitic & racist places in the country, already exists in print for every significant American community. Regarding Trump’s tweet about settling illegals in sanctuary cities, I read the anger over that differently than you. Yes if Trump and others can win MN (and hopefully NH) in addition to the other northern states he flipped, and hold that 1 EV in ME, it would make up for a flip by TX or FL. But not both.
I agree with the poster who said that if both TX and FL flip 10 years from now, we are (barring some type of separation) done. Under those circumstances a Republican could not win even if he flipped VA back.
I will say, however, that I’m not as certain that FL, where I vote now through my father’s retirement property to avoid a useless NY vote, will demographically flip, at least not in the next 10. TX and AZ seem more likely.
If TX and AZ flip happens, then even should he win FL, the Republican candidate would also need to win both MN and NH each election in addition to PA/MI/WI to get over 270…and preferably those ME and NE districts for good measure. The only real hope beyond 2036 or so is for better immigration measures from the current President to slow things down AND for white normies to wake up to the existential threat.

I have been saying for decades, that immigration is an economic issue. As long as there are people unemployed, there should be no immigration, full stop. Their origin is irrelevant.
Where they come from is also an economic issue. In a “high tech” economy, the chances of finding a tech savvy immigrant from Somalia is slim to none, which means when they work, they work in low or unskilled jobs. competing with the most vulnerable citizens. If there are, in fact, lots of tech savvy Somali immigrants, then it immoral for the government to steal them from Somalia, which needs them more, in order to develop their economy.
The billions spent on immigrants, and the billions sent out in remittances, are money taken out of the economy. Immigration is the reserve army of capital. It lowers wages and increases housing and other costs, thereby increasing profits.

Thankfully a gun range owner with a CCW permit shot and killed the attacker. The police did a fine job of crowd control and preserving evidence against a dead guy. The mayor and politicians' immediate reaction was to rally behind the Somali community behind the unfounded fear of retaliation from the hicks that never came.
The Somalis seem to have lots of health transport vans and child-care centers that seem a little shady, but no proof yet. They manage to have scored lots of programs within the school district and government that somehow benefits them but not the local Scandahoovians.
We have gone from non-discrimination delivered through indifference to race to "non-discrimination" through quotas. Our skin color was not a negative factor until we had "gaps" to close.

What I don’t get is why aren’t American Whites doing this? Especially while many of the state legislatures and welfare offices still have some fat white women in them. So other countries who take refugees from such a country in might reasonably be wary of their importation of their beliefs and customs, rather than encouraging them to integrate as little as possible. Given that leftists are constantly harping on and on about how there are more refugees than ever, it would seem western nations can afford to:
a)Be choosy about which refugees they admit
b)Only admit refugees for which there appears to be some likelihood of returning home within a decade or so, in order to help as many refugees as possible.
Somalis fail on both counts.
There's also an idea that refugees should have the right to permanently resettle in a western nation, regardless of developments back home. Has this idea been mainstream since the beginning of international refugee law or did it only begin once western political parties realized the utility of importing voters and giving them free stuff? It would seem to contradict the use of the word refuge in the English language. I might take refuge under a tree during a downpour. It doesn't mean I plan on spending the rest of my life there.
