From a New York Times Book Review:

Are Straight People OK? And Other Questions About Love and Sexuality

By Haley Mlotek
Oct. 9, 2020

… Ward distinguishes straightness as a practice from straight culture, which is the very heart of society’s most disgraceful failures. It is not, as one popular joke goes, that straight people are “not OK.” It is that heteronormativity creates a powerful, privileged form of sexuality against which, historically and currently, all other forms are compared. In examining the pressure to partner with the opposite gender we find the extortions of capitalism, the misogyny of violence against women, the racist and xenophobic erasure of nonwhite families, and the homophobic hatreds that pervade so much of everyday life.

  1. Does anybody else get the impression the woke media are sounding more and more like Sovereign Citizens or flat earthers everyday?

  2. Can I just say (using the loony left’s favourite rhetorical device) as a gay man these people are insane and do not speak for me or any gay man I’ve ever met and had a discussion on politics/society about. Hatred of gay men is a real thing in the world and I’m no fan of it but psychos like the writer of this article are just co-opting NYT’s readers’ sympathy for the gays to make their bizarre rants and militant agenda seem more reasonable.

  10. As gays, women and neurotic head cases take over the culture, I notice they can’t write stories any heterosexual White man can relate to. Maybe not heterosexual men in general.

That old line, “you could not possibly understand the thoughts of one man to another“, applies. They really can’t.

SciFi stories are so horrible because they’re either indulging their obsession with 57 genders, or, if trying to ape old stories, they just create a bunch of battling machines with no meaning (because I guess to a woman or a gay person, none of the concepts explored by Star Trek mean anything – it’s all just mindless explosions to them).

In all fairness, this is a book review, so Ms. Mlotek seems to be recounting the theses of nutty books she’s reviewing. OTOH, Googling her seems to indicate that her interest in the subject matter is not exactly tangential.

Also Googling “Mlotek,” it seems that there’s a good chance Ms. Mlotek probably comes from a prominent Orthodox family in New York. Perhaps raises some interesting questions about the roots of her neurotic fixation on family and procreation.

Your typical Unz commenter truly has no idea (or at least pretends to have no idea) just how deranged and utterly out to lunch these people are. Misogyny and violence against women are a real thing in this world, and Lord knows I’m not a fan of it, but literally no woman I have ever met in my entire life believes that “heteronormativity” has anything to do with it.

They actually use a variation of that old line in Star Trek, “Bread & Circuses”, Season 2, Episode 25 aka as the Enterprise visits the Roman Empire planet.

The Roman Emperor is dismissive of one of his underlings, while he explains to Kirk why he put a hot blonde slave girl in Kirk’s bed the night before. The underling then betrays the Emperor allowing Kirk and company to escape.

KIRK: Nothing except perhaps an explanation.
CLAUDIUS: Because you’re a man, I owe you that. You must die shortly, and because you are a man (pauses) Would you leave us, Merik? The thoughts of one man to another cannot possibly interest you.
    (Merik leaves.)

All the Bad Things must go into the same Bad Box! To be fair, this is a natural human tendency, but it’s gotten completely out of hand. I wonder to what extent it’s driven by a legalistic approach to public debate. In litigation, parties have a strong incentive to throw the kitchen sink at each other (as long as they avoid making frivolous claims) because you never know what the judge is going to find the most compelling. The old “throw it all against the wall and see what sticks” approach. So in the same way that a plaintiff will generally throw in a cause of action for quantum meruit / unjust enrichment just in case nothing else works, scribblers desperately seeking publication today throw in references to “white supremacy, the patriarchy, capitalism, neoliberalism, the Monroe Doctrine, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia,” etc., just because they never know what’s going to stick.

It makes sense to include a laundry list of causes of action in a complaint. No one expects a complaint to be a fair and balanced document. By its very nature it’s a one sided presentation.

OTOH, in the Old America, articles in major publications such as the NY Times (outside of the editorial page) were formerly expected to be neutral in tone and not to adopt the POV of the most extreme radicals in society. In fact, back in the day it would not be unusual for reporters to make fun of the more loonie conceits of intellectuals. As Orwell said, certain ideas are so stupid that only a intellectual could believe them.

Regarding heterosexuality, which is ultimately necessary for a (large) percentage of humans to adopt if humanity is to survive to the next generation, as an unalloyed force for evil in the work, is such a loonie conceit. It’s one thing to say that it’s OK for a certain % of the population not to be heterosexual but if you say that NO ONE should join up with this evil team then you are asking for the extinction of humanity.

They sound like People of Power* (let’s call them POP). They’re proving Nietzsche right when he said that power makes people stupid. In POP’s case, Sick, Crazy, and Stupid.

The NYT’s quote has all of POP’s Greatest Hits. It’s chock-o-block full of vague abstractions, glittering generalities, and absurd absolutes. All of which bearing no relation to reality.

In any event, putting Sovereign Citizens and Flat Earthers in the same category as POP is like putting Monaco and Saint Kitts in the same category as the USA. The SC & FE might have their crazies, but when it comes to the damage our woke crazies can do, there’s just no competition.

Douglas Murray, who is flaming, has the best take on the culture war I am aware of. “The Madness of Crowds” is worth a read. Murray writes at Capote level at times. He’s a pleasure to read.

I am about 1/2 way through straight-arrow Michael Anton’s “The Stakes”. More political than cultural and a bit overwrought at times, but still very good so far. Anton dedicates a chapter to “The Megaphone” and even credits Steve Sailer for coining the term. He also uses the terms “The Muzzle” and “The Virtual Gulag”. You should be able to guess what he means.

Murray and Anton use many well-known, specific examples, in context, to make their cases. That is, they both make an argument. No counter-argument is needed these days. “The Narrative” rules. You are either for it or against it.

I completely agree, Jack D, and I didn’t mean to suggest that a litigation-style approach to public discourse was anything other than undesirable and, in the long run, quite damaging. It does seem to be what people seeking to “have their voices heard” are opting for these days: “I don’t know which of these ism’s will have the most currency in the coming weeks, months, or years, so I’m gonna throw ‘em all at the bad guys.” It completely muddies the waters of the debate, of course, and makes it nearly impossible to have a rational dialogue because no one is entirely sure what the subject is.

There you are, thinking it’s a normal Sunday and you’re debating the relative merits of a market economy vs some form of light dirigisme, and then suddenly, BAM, we’re talking about Systemic Racism, Cis-Heteronormativity, That Time a Guy I Liked Didn’t Like Me, Cultural Appropriation, and, Steve’s favorite, My Hair. The female homicide rate in Mexico is 4.22 per 100,000, which is equal to the US female rate in 1993.

Female-male homicide gap is about 100000000000x narrower in the USA than it is in Mexico.

In 2016, Mexico had a rate of female homicides of 4.6 femicides per 100,000, and there were a total of 2,746 female deaths with presumption of homicide.

    https://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/fvv.pdf

The overall rate of female homicides fell 43% from 4.18 to 2.38 homicides per 100,000 female U.S. residents between 1993 and 2007.

Most Lesbian spokespeople seem pretty angry, but then again, so do most Gay Male spokespeople [in a bitchy way of course], most Black spokespeople, most Hispanic spokespeople, and a good many White ethnic/religious spokespeople.

I’ve known some pretty low-key lesbians, though I think the true lesbians are more inclined to genuinely enjoy male company. They gravitate toward masculine stuff anyway, and since they’re not attracted to men, nor are most men attracted to them, there’s not a lot of tension.

There are however a sizeable number of “lesbians” who are inclined toward heterosexuality but have had horrible experiences with men, or simply can’t find a man who will take a sexual interest in them. They tend to be more angry and resentful, kind of like incel men.

What was gleaned from that was a) Ms. or Miss or Mrs. Mlotek (presumably female because was born with two X chromosomes, at least a photo of “her” compels that conclusion) received some type of “education” at an institution named George Brown College in the “scientific discipline” of make-up artistry, and b) has worked in the fashion industry primarily as a “commentator” subsequent to the putative “education”.

She is thus well qualified to comment upon the particular biochemistry that drives the interchange of DNA strands that dictate the creation of new Homo sapiens life whenever heteronormative “behavior” generates the creation of such.

Not all violence against women is justified, of course, but the lack of violence against women is a much bigger problem than individual cases of excessive violence against women, which very often if not usually end up with the man being harshly punished.

Traditionally, physical force is one of the tools men use to keep women in line. The loss of violence against women as a legal and socially acceptable tool of patriarchy has been a major contributor to the utter degeneracy we see now.

There are however a sizeable number of “lesbians” who are inclined toward heterosexuality but have had horrible experiences with men, or simply can’t find a man who will take a sexual interest in them. They tend to be more angry and resentful, kind of like incel men.

    That is most of them.

I’ve worked in a very liberal area and I would say that 95% of dykes simply have limited options when it comes to men. Basically overeducated feminist women that are deeply bitter about the lack of men available to them. They funny thing is that they get mad if you get too close to their wife/lover. It shows that they aren’t that secure in their sexuality if they think their life partner might jump into the arms of a man at any moment. They will give you this really nasty mean pig look as if you might break their lesbian spell. This is especially true if you happen to look at the fem of the couple. It’s really hilarious because the fem one is only fem by default and no straight guy is even thinking about it.

Lipstick lesbians are rare even though they are common on TV. They tend to pair with each other and not the bull dykes. I also never saw gay men and lesbians hanging out together. Another TV creation.

I expect that lesbianism will be someday be studied honestly and people will look back and wonder how society was suckered into believing that all these bitter masculine women just happen to be born with randomly distributed lesbian genes.

But I’m not sure how many people other than alt-right and the cat mom army even read this stuff.

All these cat moms need affirmation that they did the right thing by moving to the city and adopting a lifestyle of misery and bitterness. They need to feel that self-imposed misery is the modern and progressive thing to do.

I’ve been saying for years that if we really wanted to damage the left then we would pay men to sleep with these bitter women. Like a secret society where we send men out to split open these bitter leftists.

After working with liberal women it only confirmed my suspicions. They are really motived by sexuality more than anything. You would not believe how many women will drop the “war against the patriarchy” for books on baby names once the right man comes along.

Misogyny and violence against women are a real thing in this world, and Lord knows I’m not a fan of it, but literally no woman I have ever met in my entire life believes that “heteronormativity” has anything to do with it.

Putting that aside, the general theme of the modern Left is “the last shall be first”. Status in the world is not gained from wealth and power but from victimhood. Your victimhood makes you holy. By the way, this is not a new thought. A certain Jewish philosopher of the 1st century once said,”it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of Heaven”.

In the past, Jews, black, gays, etc. were all oppressed to one extent or another and in all cases the oppressors were white heterosexual Christians (not true but this is how the narrative goes). Therefore, in order to fully and completely purge the world of oppression, we have to abolish all white heterosexual Christians – past , present and future and then we will bring about the Kingdom of Heaven on earth where oppression will no longer exist.

Women want a man with muscle, manliness, and drive/energy.

The number of men who have these qualities is diminishing every year. Men are eating pizza, getting fat, playing videogames, and just generally being slobs.

You’re right, once these women get with a real man, start getting fucked well every night, and have a guy on whom their shit tests don’t work, they lose the angry feminist attitude right quick.

I dated a radical feminist, in my pre-redpill days. I have always been kinda inherently masculine and redpilled, even before I heard of the manosphere. She was adamant on not wanting children and being “independant” from men.

Anyways, within a year she was madly in love with me, happily following me around and planning our future. She was planning our wedding and our babies and what neighborhood we would live in. A total change. After we stopped dating her bitchy feminist attitudes came back and she is approaching the wall still childless. Really tragic.

Moral of the story: the demand for real men, especially white men outstrips the supply. All women like a decisive and strong man and will give up their feminist attitudes when they get one.

Note that I did not put these words in quotes, because you are correct that Orwell never said them in this exact form. Rather they are a paraphrase of something that he did say:

The average intellectual of the Left believed, for instance, that the war was lost in 1940, that the Germans were bound to overrun Egypt in 1942, that the Japanese would never be driven out of the lands they had conquered, and that the Anglo-American bombing offensive was making no impression on Germany. He could believe these things because his hatred for the British ruling class forbade him to admit that British plans could succeed. There is no limit to the follies that can be swallowed if one is under the influence of feelings of this kind. I have heard it confidently stated, for instance, that the American troops had been brought to Europe not to fight the Germans but to crush an English revolution. One has to belong to the intelligentsia to believe things like that: no ordinary man could be such a fool.

Right. The passage quoted by Mr. Sailer is from a book The Tragedy of Heterosexuality by one Jane Ward. Yet all the criticism in the comments is directed against the reviewer, Haley Mlotek, while the author of the book seems to have not even gotten a single mention anywhere on the page. Ms. Mlotek may very well be culpable in her own right of promoting the insanity apparently put forth in the book, but more culpable than its author? More worthy of criticism and censure?

Since you mention it, I would add that family and procreation is one area that anyone with respect for a traditionalist, pronatalist perspective would have to acknowledge as a strength among Orthodox Jews. The same intense in-group identity, insularity, and disdain for secular culture and scholarship that distinguish this group (particularly the more traditional/Haredi/”Ultra-” sectors) that many understandably find objectionable, are the very factors that perhaps more than any others account for this group’s high level of resistance to the follies and the cultural and social cancers highlighted in this thread. Everything is a trade-off and is ultimately a matter of perspective.

I am not sure what to make of the two LOL responses you received and I obviously have no way of knowing whether you were sincere in making this inquiry or not. Nonetheless, I shall offer an earnest response in the hope that it will ultimately prove useful to at least someone out there who will find it.

I- First, consider that your sexuality should not form the basis of your identity. While obviously playing a major role in the life of nearly every individual, one’s sexuality is still but one of what are many aspects of his personality and life, and should not not define him. Religion, ideology, nationality, ethnicity, race, occupation, and even recreational interests are all healthier bases to form an identity around than mere sexuality.

At a minimum, and regardless of which of the three options I enumerate below you will ultimately choose, you would do well to keep yourself well occupied and be sure to get regular, sufficient physical exercise in some form. Pursue hobbies and interests that you find enjoyable.

II- Just because you are erotically attracted toward members of your own sex (even if exclusively), does not mean that you must embrace any particular ideology, culture, lifestyle or behavior.

III- If you wish to reject and avoid the degeneracy and high risks of the typical “Gay” lifestyle/culture/behavior, you have three basic alternatives to choose from, listed in order of preference as follows.

    (1) Attempt to re-orient toward heterosexuality. Such an endeavor will not be easy and has no guarantee of success but is worth trying because nothing can provide the fulfillment and joy that a wholesome heterosexual lifestyle can.

    (2) If that proves too difficult or unsuccessful, or if you are unwilling or unready to attempt it, then the next-best option, if you can manage it, would be celibacy. This is obviously far from easy but offers many advantages in the long-term. (Celibacy is also the only option– where monogamous heterosexuality within the confines of matrimony is not an option– that does not run afoul of many traditional religions.)

    (3) Restrict erotic intimacy to non-penetrative, non-brutal forms that are far safer than buggery (anal intercourse). Such alternatives include FROT and intercrural intercourse.

    Some elaboration and explanation below.

Frot is the term coined by Man2Man Alliance [dot org*] founder Bill Weintraub for the phallus-on-phallus act that he advocates as the true, egalitarian form of male homoerotic intercourse. Both Weintraub and his group, as well as the g0ys DOT org* site are among a distinct minority of dissident voices that feature FROT, along with masculinity and fidelity as integral parts of what is an alternative vision of homoeroticism that they promote.

[*Both sites contain highly GRAPHIC CONTENT. Yes, that’s g0ys with a zero. Citing =/= Endorsement]

Objectively, no form of homosexuality can be equivalent to heterosexuality, which is, after all, the normative default. But if male homoerotic carnal intimacy is to be engaged-in, then the non-penetrative, egalitarian, non-emasculating, more restrained, more refined, cleaner, more dignified forms promoted at sites such as the ones I cite above are vastly preferable– in multiple respects– to the anal-centric, inordinately disease-promoting, inherently brutal forms that alas are the prevailing ones. It is the latter, less wholesome varieties that are aggressively and practically exclusively promoted by the Gay/ AIDS establishment. This deeply entrenched, immensely powerful lobby viciously belittles, insults and mocks the former more wholesome varieties and those who dare to promote them.

This entrenched, totalitarian regime enforces a rigid dogmatic orthodoxy under which it is asserted that homosexuality is always, without exception, both innate as well as immutable. Complementing these twin doctrinal assertions is the nearly complete conflation of involuntary feelings with voluntary behavior. Moreover, the specific act of buggery (i.e., anal intercourse) is all-but-completely conflated with the broader category of male homosexual behavior, per se. In all, four tenets that form the core of the prevailing dispensation that has concocted an inalienable, nearly unrestricted right to the wanton indulgence in dangerous, inordinately disease-promoting, costly behavior at the public’s expense.

Even if certain individuals may be born with some degree of predisposition toward sexual proclivities that manifest themselves at some later point, it does not at all necessarily follow– neither logically nor empirically– that said proclivities will always, in every case, prove to be immutable. At a minimum, for at least some individuals, their sexuality will remain subject-to external influences until at least some point during or at the close of the formative years of adolescence. (And even for an adult, if changing from homo to hetero is never possible, how to explain The Lesbian Past of Bill de Blasio’s Wife? Or the case of John Maynard Keynes? There are others too.)

But even if homosexual desires were always immutable, it would not follow that they necessarily must, in every case, be acted-upon. And even when they will be acted-upon, there are vastly safer and less odious alternatives to the anatomically and physiologically unsound, inordinately high-risk, inherently brutal practice of misusing an exit-only orifice of fecal elimination as if it were one even remotely suited for penetration.

By the moment a young male has identified as “Gay”, he becomes subjected-to a relentless campaign of propaganda that extols, glorifies and whitewashes the hideous realities of the act of buggery, and the manifestly degenerate culture that surrounds it.

Such conditioning is necessary, for despite what the propagandists would have one believe, just because a male may find being erotically attracted to other males entirely natural for him, it absolutely does not follow that his instinctive reaction to being anally penetrated will be anything less than the repulsion that is the universal reflexive human response to such a brutal, unnatural invasion of one’s anatomy.

I have personally witnessed at least one self-identified homosexual adolescent male go from acknowledging, at least up to a point, the decidedly unfavorable anatomical and physiological realities of buggery and vowing that he would never engage in the act, to mocking and attacking other homosexual males for expressing categorically anti-buggery views.

I can also never forget the moving response upon being introduced to the concept of frot that I once witnessed from a young man at an expressly Gay web site. This lad expressed great interest and wonder at the idea of frot, finding it immensely appealing. He was specifically greatly intrigued by the idea that such an act– one that appeared to be “so much easier” than buggery– could serve as a satisfactory alternative to it. It almost seemed to him too good to be true; he specifically asked, “Is it really possible to [climax] from that alone?” Of course, the buggery mongers would no doubt be quite happy for such a lad to never learn that the answer to his question is an emphatic yes.

None of them? If the third from the left in the top row doesn’t look obese to you, you’ve got an awfully high bar for the term.

Anyone who uses the term “heteronormative” unironically should be exiled to Antarctica.

I appreciate the overarching sentiment expressed here, to be sure. I have indeed myself regularly expressed essentially the same with regard to terms such as racism (even if inherently legitimate, it is now thoroughly corrupted as a weaponized term of abuse) or transphobia, as well as such tedious, cumbersome, wholly unnecessary constructs as his or her and (s)he (The male embraces the female).

I’m afraid that here, however, the matter is a bit more complicated.

    Definition of heteronormative

: of, relating to, or based on the attitude that heterosexuality is the only normal and natural expression of sexuality

    (“Heteronormative.” Merriam-Webster.com Dictionary, Merriam-Webster, https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/heteronormative. Accessed 13 Oct. 2020.)

One can (and, by all indications, should) certainly condemn such derogatory usage of heteronormative as that which Mr. Sailer has highlighted for us here. One may very well also lament that there should even be a need for such a word; that the concept it denotes would simply be self-evident and need no mention in a normal, sane society. But the word itself, as defined in the quote I provided above?* It would seem both valid as well as, in the reality in which we now live, useful.

*I would perhaps modify the M-W definition somewhat, to something more along the lines of …the attitude that heterosexuality is unique, has no equivalent, and is the only form of human sexuality that can truly and sustainably prove wholesome and fulfilling. Normal and natural being both ultimately relative terms, I do not know that I would go so far as to categorically and without qualification preclude any instance and any form of homosexual intimacy from ever, in any case being legitimately considered, at least arguably natural or normal within a limited, given context.

The scourge that I have invested so much of my writing here in lamenting and de-constructing in such detail is not homosexuality, per se but rather its normalization, promotion and celebration (along with that of specific acts and practices that are inordinately disease-promoting and otherwise objectively unwholesome), especially to children and adolescents.

the racist and xenophobic erasure of nonwhite families

    Wait…
If there are any families being “erased”, wouldn’t it be white, heteronormative ones?

And, if anything, isn’t it nonwhites who are statistically more likely to be heteronormative (or at least to be considerably less accepting of LGBTQXYZ) than whites?

The quoted passage seems to invert reality.

  139. If this book and its review was intended to be serious and not hilariously disingenuous, it might be upsetting.

From her own “Superman is Jewish”:

Identifying Jews is a favourite game of Jews themselves: my parents and grandparents were always interrupting award ceremonies to point out the Jews receiving honours. “Jewish dads made sure their gangster-crazy kids knew who Edward G. Robinson and George Raft were behind their goyish screen names,” writes Gerard Jones in his 2004 book Men of Tomorrow: Geeks, Gangsters, and the Birth of the Comic Book. “Those dads had grown up viewing American culture through the eyes of outsiders, but the kids knew it was their culture, theirs to take and theirs to remake.”

I felt a similar twinge of pride when I first saw the trailer for Man of Steel, the latest Superman film, directed by Zack Snyder. I was at home with friends, watching Mad Men after a long day. A little drunk and a lot tired, I finally saw what my parents and teachers had been insisting: Superman was like me, a secular Jew…

Anti-racist is code for anti-white. And anti-Semitism is no more or less than cultural self-defense.

PS: And Gerard Jones? Currently behind bars for child molesting. Though doubtless that will be next on the list of Crimes Awaiting Normalization.
