I meant to add that if the level of government providing the service had greater control over who received the service, there would be even less illegal immigration. If states and municipalities had the option of denying public education and a lot of other benefits to the children of illegal immigrants (since states pay most of the cost of public education), then states and municipalities would be able to compete against each other. You could live in a state with lower taxes that refused public education to the kids of illegal immigrants, or you could live in a higher tax state that pays for their education.

But the federal government, for no really good reason, and without any real justification in Constitutional law, forces states to educate the children of illegals, and in any case government passes the bill onto the future.

The end result is that we take in vast numbers of poorly educated immigrants whose welfare we don’t really pay for, since we just put it on the national credit card.

In one sense: of course. Because it’s not sane to welcome one’s own destruction. But in another sense–that of consistently connecting means with ends–it’s entirely sane. Because our ‘ruling class’ has the express intention of wrecking our society and remaking it in its own image, with just that tiny ruling class presiding over the warring masses of the world.

I think that the phenomenon I’ve just described is no more or less than identity crisis. This seems to be bad news, but it is the first good identity crisis I’ve ever seen. Earlier we have talked about identity crises among ourselves: the Christian identity crisis, or the national identity crisis. But now, Ladies and Gentlemen, we are witnessing the liberal identity crisis. Viewed from the right perspective, the whole issue of asylum and mass migration, the whole problem of economic migration is nothing more than the identity crisis of liberalism. I’ll try to broadly summarize what it consists of. People in general – not only Europeans, but definitely Europeans – want to see themselves as good; but people can define “good” in a wide variety of ways. Liberals also want to see themselves as good. They also have an idea of ​​what it means to be a good person. And liberals can only live with themselves if they see themselves as good people. However, the liberal notion of what is “good”, as I described earlier, only exists at the level of phenomena: freedom of movement, universal human rights, and so on. Now this is producing disastrous consequences. But the particular quality of liberals is that while they want to be good people, they do not want to see their levels of welfare spending and standards of living falling; and so a crisis develops. This is the truly great challenge facing liberalism today: how to see themselves as good people according to their own principles, and at the same time how to protect the standard of living which they have achieved so far.

The liberal philosophy is a result of a Europe which is weak and which also wants to protect its wealth; but if Europe is weak, it cannot protect this wealth.

Although the changing demographics in Japan are real, I’ve recently started hearing that I should “escape” back to the USA while I can from an educated acquaintance. This is a qualitative shift.

If you want to change opinion in Japan, you start from the top. So I see this dystopianism as the possible vanguard of a change in the way people approach population questions.

And places in the countryside already have bilingual street signs in Japanese and Portuguese because of the Brazilian factory workers. These are case studies. Did they solve the problems they were supposed to or did they just create populations of low-contribution ethnic minorities? You know the answer.

The point is that some of the same trends pushing elites to import immigrants in the US apply to Japan. AI and robotics could be powerful tools to help deal with labor shortages and would have the added benefit of not being net drains on health and pension systems, not to mention food and fuel scarcity issues. In the country that fetishizes robots and has had high speed trains for 50 years, where is the “man on the moon” program to deal with labor through technology? Is this a failure of confidence? Of vision? Or is it a failure of interest born of the same growth and consumption addiction as the USA?

The modern world is fundamentally unsustainable. There are only three solutions: (1) fall backwards into agrarianism with lower standard of living, (2) move forward into a future of more advanced technologies with arguably less low standard of living, (3) kick the can down the road via migration and consumption.

Japan has weathered several population booms and busts in its history, but it has recovered because of human capital and culture. If it comes out on the other side of this bust with permanently altered ethnicity, it is finished.

Kansai International airport (KIX) hasn’t lost a bag in like 25 years and the high speed train system has run for decades without a catastrophic accident. These are systems run by workers from the lower strata of Japan’s society. They could be run by robots and AI, but they couldn’t be run by ethnic minorities. Japan was making transistor radios when the Koreans were still getting around in ox carts. This would be like the Mexicans getting ahead of the US in space technology or a Brazilian car company buying Ford.

Western Europe will do nothing whatsoever but roll over and die in the face of the African invasion. I was watching a TV show last night about a school that some foreign do-gooder had set up in Rwanda. They showed a bunch of little boys at the school. The boys were cute and well groomed and appeared to be eager to learn. It made you hopeful that development was possible. Then the camera zoomed out and you saw some more boys. And they they zoomed out some more and there were even more. Wall to wall boys as far as the eye could see. Herds of them, swarms of them. Educating all these people is only going to make them even more unhappy because there’s no way that the economy of their country is ever going to provide jobs for all of them. Whatever measures are taken to develop these countries are going to be undone by the massive population increase. Maybe foreign do-gooders can build them 1 school or 10 but their not going to be able to keep up when they need 100 or 1,000 more.

People produce fewer children when more of the ones they produce survive, when land tenure arrangements limit bequests subdividing agricultural land, and when they have distractions other than copulating. Every part of the globe outside of Tropical Africa and a half dozen other impoverished loci has experienced a fertility transition during the post-war period, and generally a fairly thorough one. Even Tropical Africa has seen a 30% drop in total fertility rates in the last 40-odd years. Outside of Tropical Africa, there are three countries on the planet where the tfr exceeds 3.9 and about sixteen where it exceeds 2.9; nine of these 19 countries are harmless insular states with small populations overall.

Once that order loses legitimacy – maybe during a currency crisis, debt crisis, or a major war – you can seize power and impose a new order.

I also think running for office under the current paradigm is probably a lost cause. Doing so implicitly requires participants to adhere to established rules that won’t rock the boat in the end, regardless of who gets elected. If, in contrast, Unz ran on a platform in California of 1) breaking up north California from south California OR 2) getting rid of California’s white patriarchy of Gavin Newsom and the Bay Area* by stoking lower-class white, Hispanic, and black resentments (an anti-Bolsonaro but with similar tactics), maybe some fireworks happen.

Japanese had something like free market capitalism, disposable income, nightlife, consumer goods, fast food, and corporate logos, all arrived at well before opening to the West. The colonizers built railroads for the purpose of extracting raw materials. It was not an extensive and expansive system. Constructing paved two and four lane roads to link urban areas with the rural environs was a general after thought, considering that African ownership of vehicles was virtually non-existent. Had you done some NOTICING, you would have discovered four major phases of road provision and transport services development in colonial Africa can be identified:

1. A colonial phase, where the emphasis was on accessing major export producing areas.

2. A post-Independence phase (1960s to 1980s) when newly independent governments began to shape their own road and transport policies.

3. A structural adjustment phase from the mid 1980s, with the IMF and the World Bank using their influence to bear on local policy and conditions.

4. A new phase of (mostly) more positive change in the 21st century, with developments attracting new donors and investors, with impact on both road infrastructure investment and the transport services sector.

My point – and I realize I should have made myself clearer – is that the reason that very old men like Mugabe and other had remained at the top of the leadership of many African countries is that they were educated under a better education system than the present one (for those able to enter, granted, since most Africans were illiterate at the time). The present leadership educated in African’s own education system pale in comparison.
