A friend writes:

This hit me with the force of a vision yesterday: in a few years things will get so stupid and childish that there could be some sort of geo-political conflict because some superhero movie has Black Panther being defeated by a white Batman, or because James Bond will be played by an Asian but you’re not supposed to do that because he’s now a black man. Two trains of stupidity trends colliding.

The Americanization of every corner of the Third World with our superhero blockbusters, the somehow ever-increasing infantilization of societies, and racial resentment politics had me envisioning tensions between superpowers over… fandoms.

It’s next level stupid but felt tonally inevitable

The Crusades but about who can rightfully portray The Batman

A key measure of Americanization is the number of foreign undergrads in universities. Down from China, but up in other major countries.

Recent data tracking use of the Common App at 900 US higher education institutions showed an 18% decline in undergraduate applications from China for fall 2021, with increased applications from other major sending countries such as India (up 28%) and Brazil (up 41%), the report notes.

  6. What’s up – woke-wise – is enough for me. No desire and/or longing at all for visions about an even darker (=sillier) future., thanks a lot. The greater public is disconnecting big scale from the entertainment industry already. Oscar night had a fraction of the viewers it once drew. At the same time: Mass shootings are on the rise. This trend might intensify since it makes fun more real and adds authenticity to it.
The future, as – – – – – Hans Magnus Enzensberger remarked two decades ago, might not so much be one of big, but one of a multitude of rather small wars. He called those the Molecular Civil Wars. But if the Snowflakery International keeps growing, those Molecular Wars might not intensify, because such harsh actions would be too far away from the safe spaces, the kids are raised in nowadays. – War is annoyingly uncomfortable and rather unsafe, and thus could well fall short altogether.

Related: California is set to follow Virginia in eliminating advanced mathematics courses because not every one can handle them. Equity at last! We will dumb down school until every student is performing at the level of the worst ones they can get in the door.

I know that many here can remember the special torture we experienced whenever we weren't tracked with other advanced students. Separately of course there's the matter of what happens to a society bent on lowering standards in every field of endeavor to the absolute minimum.

    From RT:

"The gap between well-performing students and their less able peers must disappear, indicating that mere words are not enough - schools must deliver ‘equity’ in classrooms.

Such an effort would involve faculty holding well-performing students back, even while pushing their less intellectual peers forward (as if they were all indeed equal in abilities). Potentially stranding a group of gifted individuals in a situation where they are held back by a single child who simply can’t get a problem right and needs endless special instruction is hardly something to be proud of, for the school or the students themselves.

Released on Tuesday, the sprawling, hundreds of pages-long manifesto delivered by the California Health Department described how schools must focus on “active efforts” in mathematics. Starting at the beginning of K-12 education to ensure no “gifted and talented” or advanced tracking programs take hold among the faculty, the policy implies to parents that if they want the same free public education as anywhere else in their school district, they have no choice but to subject their kids to racist pandering and a warped new form of mathematics that many may find insulting.

Indeed, the mathematically inclined children will be effectively held back until the last few years of high school, essentially forcing them to miss out on an opportunity to hone their talent at a younger age.

“We reject ideas of natural gifts and talents,” the proposal states, insisting “there is no cutoff determining when one child is ‘gifted’ and another is not.” The proposal also wants to “replace ideas of innate mathematics ‘talent’ and ‘giftedness’ with the recognition that every student is on a growth pathway.”

The authors of the district’s recently-released math instruction framework decided that “too many students are sorted into different math tracks based on their natural abilities,” arguing instead that gifted California kids owe it to their peers to sacrifice their own opportunities for as long as they can – all in the name of equity.

Fortunately for California students (and their parents), the proposition has not yet been passed into National Education Administration policy, but it runs the risk of joining several peer states in following through. Other states including Oregon, Virginia, and Illinois have eagerly embraced the idea.

Virginia was especially keen to join the nationwide efforts to refashion children’s education into a new and patronizing style of social control. Last month, Virginia announced it would streamline educational “equity” – a plan which involves replacing math with “foundational concepts,” ditching algebra, geometry, trigonometry and calculus, and imposing a lowest-common-denominator model of teaching and wiping out the option of taking any advanced math course before entering the 11th grade

I thoroughly enjoyed the era of the Trump administration, because just about every night I’d go to bed thinking, "what’s Trump gonna do about that," and just about every morning, he did do something about it that made me laugh. I never had a time in my life that I laughed so much first thing in the morning.

    But now he’s gone, apparently.

So now, perversely, BLM has replaced him in my ritual. I still laugh, but instead of joy, it’s laughter born of consternation. They aren’t quite as consistent, certainly not as creative as Trump. They’re the massive political retarded reflection of Trump's bald-faced will, but lacking any of his other human qualities, because… it’s collectively beyond them.

Roughly, the "Lenny" to Trump's "George." Hopefully with the same eventual outcome–but always interesting to watch play out.

Related: California is set to follow Virginia in eliminating advanced mathematics courses because not every one can handle them. Equity at last! We will dumb down school until every student is performing at the level of the worst ones they can get in the door.

I know that many here can remember the special torture we experienced whenever we weren’t tracked with other advanced students. Separately of course there’s the matter of what happens to a society bent on lowering standards in every field of endeavor to the absolute minimum.

    From RT:

“The gap between well-performing students and their less able peers must disappear, indicating that mere words are not enough – schools must deliver ‘equity’ in classrooms.

This trend might intensify since it makes fun more real and adds authenticity to it.
The future, as - - - - - Hans Magnus Enzensberger remarked two decades ago, might not so much be one of big, but one of a multitude of rather small wars. He called those the Molecular Civil Wars. But if the Snowflakery International keeps growing, those Molecular Wars might not intensify, because such harsh actions would be too far away from the safe spaces, the kids are raised in nowadays. - War is annoyingly uncomfortable and rather unsafe, and thus could well fall short altogether.

I was thinking the other day about how Superhero fiction declines to follow the monomyth, with its focus on the active quest and movement from the “safe” social sphere into the unknown, followed by the return.
Superhero fiction is actually more akin to the story of the golem, a territorial protector who goes out of control every so often and must be corrected by human authorities. Hence the constant friction between Batman and the Gotham PD. This is more explicit with the X-Men, who, at their most honest, are technicolor superjews, as they are currently in Hickman’s run (complete with a xenophobic, legally ambiguous ethno-state that blackmails the world. They have billboards announcing this watch "powered by Vibranium." Plenty of people actually think that Wakanda is real. (The watch costs around $150,000, for those who want to splurge on their virtue signalling.)

Nah it’s squarely aimed at NBA/NFL Black players with more money than sense – the vast majority, of course.

So yet again, I ask myself, "what’s BLM gonna do about that…"

What if they just decide to wipe out chimps wherever they can be found in the galaxy because they are unsufferable narcissistic idiots? It's not like a galactic UN would write a stern letter about a quiet holocaust.

I believe the current thinking (2020-21, after the “Death Metal” event) is that there is an infinite number of worlds again. However many worlds there are, that’s how many versions of Batman there are. They could make movies with a black Batman, but he would just be one Batman out of many parallel versions. Familiar versions of Batman are always going to be there, even if they step aside for awhile.
