Man killed during staged robbery, documents state
HOUSTON – In January, FOX 26 reported on what police thought was a robbery turned homicide when a bystander shot the robber, but an investigation now shows that the robbery was fake.
22-year-old Rasshauud Scott was staging a robbery that two victims were in on when Jesus Vargas, a bystander, shot and killed him.
Court records say that Scott was working with William X Winfrey, who instructed Scott to stage the robbery in exchange for money.
The documents say the two victims were in on the robbery, so they could file for U-Visas. According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, a U-Visa is granted to victims of certain crimes to aid law enforcement in solving cases. It grants the victim temporary immigration status, including work authorization; temporary immigration status for qualifying family members of the victim; and the possibility of lawful permanent resident status.
Court documents say police found telegram messages between Scott and Winfrey coordinating the staged robbery.
Documents stating that the two had staged at least two robberies with the same method before, saying they did one the night before Scott was killed on Jan 26 on 4400 Lockwood Drive at the Swift gas station.
In that case, both victims submitted for U-visas and one of them received one.
Another documented case is from February 27, 2023 at 6601 Gessner Road. The documents say all three people who claimed to be victims applied for and were granted U-Visas.
Winfrey is now charged with murder in the killing.
This would make a good old-fashioned Coen Bros. Murphy’s Law movie, like Fargo.

I doubt NPR will ever bring up these gaffes, ever. They were both described by Foxnews in the past two days.

What foolproof plan?
The only men with plans were the husband and the private eye.
Husband’s plan was to have the couple killed, and the private eye’s plan was to fake the killing, kill the husband, and take the money. (But the private eye messes up. Grossed out by the fish, he leaves his lighter at the place, but it’s gone when he goes to retrieve it. It is then he goes after the couple thinking that THEY have it.)
The couple had no plan at all and remain clueless throughout the movie.
The guy thinks the woman killed the husband and covered up the crime for her sake. He assumes she understand what he did and why.
The woman is clueless as to what the guy’s talking about and thinks her husband is still alive(and thinks she killed him in the final scene).
It’s in Fargo where some guy thinks he came up with a pretty clever plan but it all falls apart.
Is it OK in these days to just laugh at this level of foolishness, stupidity and cosmic justice??? Lol!!!

Mexicans in Texas seem to be rather free with their trigger fingers – especially regarding the blatant exhibitions of black aggression which seem to be de riguer these days in American public life.

Police say the decision to charge Vargas [who was armed, on probation, and fled] has been sent to a grand jury. No records indicate a decision has been sent back at this point.
There are no records indicating whether the people who allegedly posed as victims in the January staged robbery have been charged.
Why not deported?

Years ago I learned about how anti-apartheid activists basically drew up a pyramid of the South African government and Afrikaner society. Seemingly minor things that weren’t well defended actually propped up other, more important things.

She also said the eclipse was due to the moon being “closer than it has ever been in the past 20 years” which, may or may not be true, but doesn’t really have anything to do with the timing of the eclipse, just the degree of totality.
And she also said that the students were about to be plunged into “complete darkness” and there weren’t any animals around but the “dogs will be barking”. Houston was at least 150 miles from the nearest total eclipse. It certainly got dim here, but it didn’t get dark.

It’s funny you should say that. The roofing contractor that my son uses is a old grizzled white guy who looks like he is from central casting, with the permanent red nose that comes from maybe having a few too many beers. There’s always India and Cambodia. Japan has its own versions of Manuel and Consuela undercutting their local workers.
And forcing foreign car companies to build plants in the US and hire US workers was a workaround that took years to arrange, given that it was a whole lot more difficult than just whining and pointing fingers at Jews or blacks (or Manuel and Consuela). A lot of roadblocks had to be cleared and even then, it still meant US carmakers had to settle for B-status. I am not a lawyer. According to the Wikipedia article the McMichaels were each convicted of four counts of felony murder and Bryan was convicted of three. It appears the underlying felonies were aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated assault with a pickup truck, false imprisonment and attempted false imprisonment. Bryan was acquitted of aggravated assault with a firearm (he didn’t have a firearm) and therefore also of the corresponding felony murder charge.
The false imprisonment (and/or attempted false imprisonment) charges seem reasonable to me given the facts of the case. If you attempt to detain someone at gunpoint without a legal right to do so and as a result they wind up dead this seems like the sort of thing felony murder laws are intended to cover. Note Travis McMichael was also convicted of malice murder.
