Not from the Babylon Bee but from the New York Times news section:

A Minneapolis Neighborhood Vowed to Check Its Privilege. It’s Already Being Tested.

Blocks from where George Floyd drew his last breaths, residents have vowed to avoid the police to protect people of color. The commitment is hard to keep.

By Caitlin Dickerson
June 24, 2020

MINNEAPOLIS — … After the death of George Floyd at the hands of the police, Ms. Albers, who is white, and many of her progressive neighbors have vowed to avoid calling law enforcement into their community. …

Two weeks ago, dozens of multicolored tents appeared in the neighborhood park. They were brought by homeless people who were displaced during the unrest that gripped the city. The multiracial group of roughly 300 new residents seems to grow larger and more entrenched every day. …

The video of Mr. Floyd’s death and the outcry over racial injustice that came after has awakened many white Americans to a reality that people of color have known their whole lives: The scores of police killings they have seen in the news in recent years were not one-off incidents, but part of a systemic problem of the dehumanization of black people by the police.

Obviously, that’s the only possible explanation for the deaths of George Floyd, Rayshard Brooks, and Ahmaud Arbery.

… “I’m not being judgmental,” said Carrie Nightshade, 44, who explained that she no longer felt comfortable letting her children, 12 and 9, play in the park by themselves. “It’s not personal. It’s just not safe.”

On Friday, she sat in a shared backyard with four other women who live in neighboring houses. The women, four of whom are white, had called a meeting to vent about the camp.

Angelina Roslik burst into tears, explaining that she had spent the past four years fleeing unstable housing conditions and was struggling more than she cared to admit with the chaos the camp had brought into the neighborhood. Linnea Borden said she had stopped walking her dog through the park because she was tired of being catcalled. “My emotions change every 30 seconds,” said Tria Houser, who is part Native American.

The women agreed to let any property damage, including to their own homes, go ignored and to request a block party permit from the city to limit car traffic. Rather than turn to law enforcement if they saw anyone in physical danger, they resolved to call the American Indian Movement — a national organization created in 1968 to address Native American grievances such as police brutality — which had been policing its own community locally for years.

That’s like the scene in Straight Outta Compton where N.W.A. is breaking up, so Ice Cube hires the Black Muslim’s Fruit of Islam to be his enforcers, while Easy-E and manager Jerry Heller sign up the Jewish Defense League as their goon squad.

But some people in the neighborhood have already found their best-laid plans to avoid calling the police harder to execute than they had imagined. …

Mitchell Erickson’s fingers began dialing 911 last week before he had a chance to even consider alternatives, when two black teenagers who looked to be 15, at most, cornered him outside his home a block away from the park.

One of the boys pointed a gun at Mr. Erickson’s chest, demanding his car keys.

Flustered, Mr. Erickson handed over a set, but it turned out to be house keys. The teenagers got frustrated and ran off, then stole a different car down the street.

Mr. Erickson said later that he would not cooperate with prosecutors in a case against the boys. After the altercation, he realized that if there was anything he wanted, it was to offer them help. But he still felt it had been right to call the authorities because there was a gun involved.

Two days after an initial conversation, his position had evolved. “Been thinking more about it,” he wrote in a text message. “I regret calling the police. It was my instinct but I wish it hadn’t been. I put those boys in danger of death by calling the cops.”

What about the fact that the boys had put his life in danger?

“Yeah I know and yeah it was scary but the cops didn’t really have much to add after I called them,” he replied. “I haven’t been forced to think like this before. So I would have lost my car. So what? At least no one would have been killed.”

  2. “Two people robbed me at gunpoint and I didn’t call the police because I didn’t want to hurt them” is the evil adult ego equivalent of “I got beaten up in a fight because I didn’t want to fight back as I would have hurt them too much.”

Such beliefs make people feel sickly sweet good about themselves. Each individual’s ego is bingeing itself silly in this interview. Yet inside each of them, there is a small shut off voice screaming, and still can’t be heard.

Catastrophising on behalf of the other is the ultimate in narcissism. It leads to excessive pity, to an irrational, negative belief about their situations, and to a feeling of hopelessness about their future prospects. Furthermore, catastrophizing can limit the options and alternatives we see available to them, and possibly paralyze us from going further with efforts toward our own goals in life.

Is this the new passive voice? Seems like the latest and greatest way to avoid assuming agency.

At least these Scandindianavians aren’t being judgmental.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to pass a proposal to declare racism a public health crisis.

It’s the most comprehensive plan in the county’s history to address racism, potentially putting an $8 billion budget behind making institutionalized reforms.

Inside most Liberals is a desire to see false penance, for sins imagined at least as much as for sins real, applied to oneself and family and close friends that goes hand in hand with a deep faith that people are not divided into wolves, sheep, and sheep dogs, but are all sheep except those who think otherwise who are ravening wolves.

Those who understand theology of historic, pee-Modern Christianity know that Liberalism is a mental illness precisely because it is perversion, an inversion that after build up must implode, of Christian teachings regarding sin and penance and damnation.

Off hand I would guess the chances of a victim being grievously wounded or killed in random street crime— especially when the perp is pointing a gun at you— is exponentially greater than that the perp being killed by police.

But in reality Mitchell and the other goodwhites are helping to save a cop’s life by not calling 911 because statistically that cop has a 2.5 times greater chance of being killed by that black perp than that black perp has of being killed by that cop.

You are 7 times more likely to be murdered, or 42 times more likely to be raped, than to have a police officer use excessive force on you.

Whether he consciously feels overcome with shame, or not, really depends on how good he is at lying to himself.

I suspect that he is excellent!

Anyone who can be robbed at gunpoint and make it all about the feelings of the robber is either fully enlightened, as in at one with time and the universe, or is such an egotistical liar that he can hide the sadness, fear and anger that all human beings naturally feel; from even himself.

Did the robbers recognise him as being there and a person? No, so he would be angry.

Did the robbers enforce a sense of disconnection with him? Yes, so he would be sad.

Does he value his life? Yes, as he hasn’t floated away to a nirvana, so he would be fearful of dying!

And yet…none of those mattered to his ego…it chose to catastrophise on behalf of the two armed muggers.

    Pathetic.

And people mocking him may not help. The ego has a way of defending itself, even as it attacks everything inside and beats it down. His masquerade likely has staying power.

Nothing demonstrated Obama’s true a$$hole side more than his trolling use of the phrase “not an existential threat” when attempting to make the latest Muslim massacre/sudden jihad syndrome attack go away. Technically he was right that the murder of 12, 40, 150, even 3000 people by Muslim terrorists is not even a demographic blip and society will go on. What makes him an a$$hole, though, is his willful evasion of how these events generate shockwaves of terror and fear immensely disproportionate to their actual body counts, and that society deserves protection from that (this was the basic idea behind Roosevelt’s “freedom from fear”).

So where are the desperate housewives? They’re all in Minneapolis apparently, desperately trying to maintain their last shreds of sanity as the forces of ugliness, filth, and danger swarm around them while everyone who is “good” and “respected” and “well-liked” is telling them not to believe their lying eyes, that everything is fine and that the problem is with them.

It seems to be some kind of synthesis between a vestigial Teutonic Protestantism and the Great Oppression Narrative. The whole woke ideology is, as some have noticed, a bastardization of Christianity. This may just be the particular expression of it with some local flavor.

Of course, we’re eliding the fact that these people are in some sense captives. They’ve just experienced mass rioting, looting, and violence for nearly a month near to their homes. I’m not convinced that at least some of what they’re saying isn’t rationalizing their current condition in which they’re subject to retributive measures – including violence – for acting in ways contrary to the expressed wishes of the people running this particular lawless zone. It’s a mass version of Stockholm Syndrome, probably more effective because they’ve been pre-primed to be deferential to blacks and the assorted agitators who have taken charge. Even if they didn’t find the narrative totally credible, just the act of repeating its incantations has had the effect of integrating these ideas into their belief system. Can you really expect them to stand up and think the thoughts contrary to this decades long brainwashing which are necessary to liberate themselves?

Of course, that reflection may be delayed since the story states that the teens proceeded down the street and car jacked another car from someone else.

But you make a good point – this attempted armed robbery, and the subsequent successful armed robbery, will likely not be the last of the violent, life-threatening criminal careers of these teens. They’ll continue, becoming more bold, and end up seriously hurting or killing a victim, try to rob the wrong guy and wind up shot, and almost certainly wind up in the criminal justice system. Erickson only accelerated this process.

This makes no sense because it really depends on who “you” are and where you are. If “you” are a lone white female walking thru the ghetto at 3 AM, your chances of being raped are probably 1,000 times higher than if you are a young black male, while the chances that the police will use excessive force are higher if you are a male.

  68. Truly deranged. There is so much material here, but I only have time to focus on two particular items.

First, the guy’s cognitive dissonance is really something to behold:

But he still felt it had been right to call the authorities because there was a gun involved.

If the perps had only used a baseball bat he would not have even considered calling the police. It was only the gun, that must have been belonged to a white redneck in Mississippi, that caused him to call the police. COMMON SENSE GUN CONTROL was going through his head as his life was being threatened. He was essentially reporting the gun, not the perpetrators.

Second, one of the RHOM states:

“My emotions change every 30 seconds,” said Tria Houser, who is part Native American.

On a grand scale, doesn’t this sum up our state of affairs quite nicely? Most women, and a good number of men, have completely taken leave of their senses (as my HS Spanish teacher would say). I thought the Sioux were tougher than that.

Since you started protesting there have been eight cops fired across the country. Remember you were telling us that there was Due Process?

“That’s why the cop that choked Eric Gardner kept his job and kept receiving raises for five years. Anytime a cop hurt a woman, a child, our elders, there was always a call for due process. But the moment people start destroying property, now cops can be fired automatically. What is this country rewarding? What behavior is it listening to? Obviously not marching. But, when people get aggressive and they escalate their protests, cops get fired, now, you have police officers and Republican politicians talking about police reform. I don’t condone nor do I condemn rioting but I’m just telling what I observed.”

The Seattle Times said yesterday that the greatest irony of CHAZ is that although began as a movement to defund the police, all they realized in the end is that we need the police after all.

It’s time for progressives to learn the hard way how much they need the police. MINNEAPOLIS — … After the death of George Floyd at the hands of the police, Ms. Albers, who is white, and many of her progressive neighbors have vowed to avoid calling law enforcement into their community. …

Radicalism is a retreat from the complex world of reality into the simplistic world of ideals. In a way, however, I empathize with these ladies. Despite their political views, their strategy is a manifestation of the social, political and even physical intimidation they’re experiencing. They aren’t taking this course of action merely because “it’s the right thing to do.” It’s a strategy that has a good deal of Stockholm Syndrome mixed into it. I’ve known some of these urban left-wing Minneapolis fuckheads, and despite their cognitive flaws, they can be pretty gentle people. Up until now, progressive-ism and social justice posturing has been a political expression of their gentleness. I tried explaining to a family member hobbled by TDS (whose response to the country literally burning down around them, day after day, was “…..yes? And what about George Floyd?”) that not only is there no epidemic of police brutality, compared to what policing used to look like 30 and 40 years ago the cops have been conducting a love-fest in this century, and was met with blank, staring disbelief – the only thing missing was “my God, all that FOX News is warping your brain”. (Just as well, as the response to my informing them that I haven’t turned on my television set in almost three years would have been hysteria – “WHAT? you mean not even for GAME OF THRONES?!” – followed by judge-shopping for my involuntary commitment)

But that’s, sad as it is to admit, become the New Normal for a lot of us, who now look forward to holidays with family the way we would to five or six consecutive root canals. However, the disturbing silence-cum-capitulation by the supposed opposition party of purported ‘conservatives’ can not be an accident or a canny, 4D-chess strategy. It’s on purpose. The people don’t matter, but the donors have all spoken. As things stand now, there is no way for Trump to win re-election (in all candor, he hasn’t earned it except as a door-jamb to buy us time until we can find an actual conservative). A country that kangaroo-courts its Proud Boys to harsh prison sentences while warmly tipping its cap to syphilitic barbarians looting and burning any targets of opportunity (ie, everything they see) is not a country that’s going to see a patriotic voter turn-out sufficient to save their bacon in November – not when the message being sent is hey, try not to get hurt or killed voting this Election Day – but remember, anyone defending themselves will be arrested. And the less said about what your mail-in vote is going to be worth, the better.

Have you heard ONE GOP voice raised to insist on using law enforcement or the military to ensure the legitimacy of the voting process? For that matter have you heard one GOP cuck demanding arrest without bail and/or Guantanamo for the animals laying waste to our nation? If a Proud Boy punching his masked assailant in the mouth is worth six years in prison, what does looting and burning a city – or defacing a public statue – merit? But we hear nothing. I’ve heard louder crickets.

Ordinarily, I’d close with some contemptuous remark about Minnesota richly deserving its new status as high-tech serfs, but I already know that the Times isn’t assigning high-yaller ‘reporters’ to that state for any purpose besides whispering resistance is useless, the war is over and we’ve won into the ears of still-sane Minnesotans and the rest of us who require at least an audible heartbeat of resistance to keep hope alive. (‘The resistance’, ‘keep hope alive’….they’re even supplying us with our cliches now.)

This never happens in the America of 1992, or 2000, or even 2008! That it’s happening now has less to do with the malice of the DNC than it does the GOP hanging up GOING OUT OF BUSINESS – EVERYTHING MUST GO! signs in our nation’s front window. When you began to see, two weeks ago, one giant corporation/conglomerate after another dutifully take a knee and wash the feet of people who’d require an evolutionary leap or three to rise to the level of Visigoths, you knew then and there what the official response of the ‘patriot pary’ was going to be….grovelling capitulation.

So even though Pelosi and AOC and Shaun Fucking King will hog all the bow-taking next Inauguration Day, make no mistake – 2020 and beyond have been brought to you by Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney and Kevin McCarthy, and every other shit-talking cuckservative whose usefulness to Leviathan begins and ends with capital-gains tax cuts and sponsoring sanctions against Syria. That makes me think… If the modern Church still had any power and conviction, it should condemn progressivism/SJWsm as a Christian heresy (that denies the divinity or even the existence of Jesus and misrepresent his teachings) and burn them all at the stake. Well, it’s an idea.

Notice how both women had to show their ‘oppression’ credentials (poor; Native American) so they could feel safe giving a negative opinion of the camp. The second one also cleverly worked in a feminist angle.

I suspect talk of “history of mental health issues”, “unstable economic conditions”, “invisible disabilities” will start preceding more and more white men in particular who want to give their two cents on DIE-adjacent issues.

Here’s Anglin’s entertaining summary: “From what I’m able to tell, a mob just ginned up the idea out of nowhere that a sex trafficker who had kidnapped teenage black girls was holed up in an abandoned house and so they started firing guns through the front door and then burned it down.

The “missing” girls, aged 13 and 15, had not been seen since Sunday but didn’t qualify for an Amber Alert, which means that the police had reason to believe they were just out partying. But someone called the police to investigate the house that this guy Frank Nitty had “tracked” the girls to, and the police came to help them and the mob attacked the police so they fled.

The girls turned up on Wednesday unharmed.

It’s not at all clear why they thought that they had been kidnapped or were in this specific house. It seems to have just been a rumor started in the crowd, which again, led to people randomly firing weapons through the door and burning the house down and no one being arrested for doing that. Three people were shot, apparently by accident, as the empty house was sieged by the mob.”

The present disaster is a confluence of malign forces.

It started with To Kill a Mockingbird, followed by decades of TV programs, movies, and print ads depicting brilliant black scientists, wise black female judges, super-human black airline pilots. Heck, literal “magic negroes” (See The Green Mile… A totally innocent black man is executed, even though he literally has supernatural powers of goodness)

Second, the complete banishment of truth, even of the most obvious brick-and-mortar reality itself. “There was a noose in the garage!” When it turns out there was not, nothing really changes. It’s the thought that counts. Any discussion of human biodiversity as an explanation for black crime rates or fatherless households is completely off limits. Just as nature abhors a vacuum, when truth is banished, something rushes in to replace it: Lies, or outright insanity. For example, black crime rates? Must be because of the racist police. So the police have to go! And millions upon millions of people go along with it, and just about everyone else is cowed into silence as a result of the “softening up” bombardment mentioned above. You’re not one of those bigots on the jury in To Kill a Mockingbird, are you?

The evidence for lasting deleterious effects in humans from T. gondii is pretty weak – unlike the evidence for hookworm causing retardation in poor whites in the American South.

By contrast, there’s reasonably good evidence that the stereotypical “dumbass Southerner” trope wasn’t just sectarianism among US whites, but had a basis in fact: it was due to widespread infection with a specific hookworm (Necator americanus) which was almost endemic among poor Southern whites (sufficient to cause overall infection rates to hit 40%).

Infestation with N Americanus causes malnutrition, lethargy, and a kind of persistent brain fog, because it causes severe anaemia. In children it retards IQ as well as physical growth.

It’s largely a thing of the past now – although who knows? Epigenetics and what-not… maybe Southern whites were permanently enstupidated as a group (rural West Virginia, anyone?) – although it almost exclusively affected poor whites, most whites in the South were poor, and the military occupation (Reconstruction) didn’t help.

Science is silent on whether these epigenetic changes are the cause for Texans and their fondness for stupid belt buckles and big cowboy hats… but I have my suspicions.

Anyhow… poor sanitation, bare feet, dirt floors and the proximity of domesticated animals (and their shit) were very widespread in poor parts of the rural South right up until WWII, and were the perfect setup for infestation.

Hookworm Disease” was identified as a problem in the late 1800s, but Southern politicians were averse to doing anything systematic about it because it was referred to as “the germ of laziness“: taking action would be an admission that the tropes about rural Southerners had some basis in fact. That’s politics all over: refuse to try to fix a valid problem, because it might cause adverse PR.

Even so, bear in mind this was in the early days of the US manic-obsession with Eugenics: validating the idea that half the country was “feeble-minded” would have been a real problem.

That problem would have been magnified after SCOTUS deemed that involuntary Eugenic Sterilisation was constitutional in Buck v Bell 274 US 200 [1927]. Leave aside for a moment that Buck v Bell was a fabricated farce, and a legal travesty which taints the US legal system for eternity, and should cause the historical “cancellation” of Oliver Wendell Holmes.

As late as the 1940s, labour was brought down from Pennsylvania because it was hard to find locals able to do a day’s manual labour, and parts of the South were referred to as the Hookworm Belt.

Alabama still has significant numbers of kids with hookworm infestations.

Yesterday’s cultural icons wouldn’t make it in today’s world, that’s for sure:

    — Cliff is fired after being filmed making a white supremacy hand signal at a stop light … cracking his knuckles. The gang chip in and buy him a plane ticket to an obscure island nation where he can live in peace, but BLM exposes the plot and middle-class white kids burn down the bar in response.

    — Michael Knight is is sued for sexual harassment after commenting on Bonnie’s tailpipe. He’s later canceled when a 25 year old photo of him posing at a KFC with K.I.T.T. is made public.

    — Judge Harry Stone throws out all the rioting charges for looters. Hilarity ensues when Markie Post is r***d in the parking lot by some of them, and the smart-mouth prosecutor refuses to prosecute on social justice grounds.

    — Mattlock is brought before a board of inquiry after he angrily told a band of marauding rioters we’d all be better off if the Confederacy had won.

    — MacGuyver is removed from voicing a character in an upcoming movie after it is revealed he bragged to Wynonna Rider that she’s a poor oven dodger and he could have escaped much better and faster.

    — The crew of the Enterprise is given mandatory sensitivity training after Data uncritically repeats FBI crime statistics about Klingons being 13% of the population but 50% of the murders.

    — Affirmative action ensures the Battlestar Galactica never reaches earth. Starbuck changes her name to Karen and calls Adama a racist, leading an all night struggle session with the ladies, after he tries pointing out to Lt. Tyrone that earth is in the opposite direction. The only people who are offended are white women and their beta orbiters. The Cylons end up ruling the galaxy. Cylontriumph.

    — Scooby Doo and the gang are canceled when the van is photographed with a noose hanging from the mirror. The FBI sends in 300 agents. They determine it was just a leash.

A Barbie doll talking head in the top right hand of the screen was babbling. I turned up the sound.

“Again, Roger, what we have so far is that according to an FBI statement, a team of agents and United States Marshalls acting on behalf of the U. S. Attorney General’s Child Protective Services Division have apparently been lured into some kind of terrorist ambush, and the FBI in Washington D. C. has told us that several Federal agents have been killed and wounded. The Federal law enforcement team was attempting to serve a child protection order issue by a U. S. Circuit Court judge on the family of one Augustus Singer in Coeur d’Alene when they came under heavy gunfire from the surrounding homes in what appears to be a highly disciplined and prepared terrorist attack.”

As history tells us, it was nothing of the kind. It was Gus Singer’s neighbors, good Americans all who finally decided they no longer wanted to be Americans, good or otherwise. Ordinary people who said to hell with America. Slaves who in the light of a Northwest dawn pulled their cherished guns out of hiding, and who at long last, for the first time since 1865, fired those guns at the hirelings of the United States. Ordinary and decent men and women who heard the call to heroism and answered it, who fought and died in an attempt to save the Singer children from being kidnapped and sold as chattels and toys to rich yuppies and perverts. That attempt failed, and the Singers died that their race and nation might live.

But at the time I had no idea what the hell was going on. Neither did anyone else. For all we knew, the Party had decided to start the revolution without us. I disobeyed Rooney and stared at the tube for several minutes, trying to wrap my mind around it all, until the phone rang on the side table. I picked it up in a daze. “Yeah?” I said. “Hello, darlin’. No names on this phone,” drawled Carter’s voice. “Little pitchers have big ears.” “Is it us? Is it us?” I yelled. “Don’t know. The government says it’s us, and that’s all that counts. They’ll be coming after all of us now. You need to get out of that house and over to the gym.”

The modern American left is not based on any coherent system of thought or ethics. It is based on the Cookie Jar Theory: the belief that the United States is not an actual nation with a people and a culture and a history, but rather that America is a giant cookie jar filled with magic cookies, and every single POC all throughout the world deserves a cookie.

That is it. They don’t know where the cookies came from, they think they appeared by magic and that there is an endless unlimited supply of cookies, and therefore each tearful begging nino who shows up on the doorstep deserves a magic cookie, because That Is Who We Are: the generous dispenser of lucky cookies. The supply of cookies will never run out, just like the supply of tearful begging ninos is also infinite. There is no thought given to any of the consequences of this, it’s like their whole worldview is a nightmare mixture of Emma Lazarus and Sally Struthers.

In 2015, a police officer was 18.5 times more likely to to be killed by a black male than an unarmed black male was to be killed by a police officer. Black males have made up 42% of all cop killers over the past decade, though they are only 6% of the population. That 18.5 ratio undoubtedly worsened in 2016, in light of the 53 percent increase gun murders of officers-committed vastly and disproportionately by black males.” Heather MacDonald, The War on Cops, 2017.

The public transit lines don’t reach exurbs.

This isn’t 1910. Poor people and criminals have cars. Much more convenient for the getaway.

They made your argument when crime went down during the Twin Cities transit strike. Then the city shut down the Lowry Ave bridge between black North and white ethnic/hipster Northeast Minneapolis for over a year for repairs. Crime went down in Northeast, too. Transit service over that bridge was minimal.

Exurbs elsewhere were built around commuter rail, which still runs. Those aren’t overrun with ‘hood scum.

It’s less than an hour by train from Harlem to Chappaqua, with at least two services offered:

The 2nd Amendment recognizes the right of citizens to be armed, because it is their DUTY.

We are all members of the militia. It was able bodied men, back in the day, but now it’s everyone. It is our duty to be prepared to come to the aid of ourselves, our families, our communities, and our state.

DoBA said, “So it didn’t occur to Mitchell Erickson that by letting criminals run free he was endangering his fellow neighbors?”

This is exactly what the 2nd Amendment is about. It is Erickson’s duty to stop them before they attack anyone else. Erickson feels no duty. Not his problem. He is a selfish creep.

A SOCIETY OF SELFISH CREEPS IS NOT SUSTAINABLE.

I live in a far southwest suburb of Chicago that owes its growth to White Flight. It’s a very nice suburb, a genuinely great place to live and raise a family.

That being said, there is extreme elistism in Chicago from the north side and north/west suburbs regarding the south side and south suburbs. We are the Great Unwashed.

The house two doors down was purchased by a young couple perhaps ten years ago. I dropped by to introduce myself and welcome them to the neighborhood. I met the husband first, asked where he was from. He told me he was from the south side, originally. No surprise there, approximately 99% of the residents of my suburb started out on the south side. I asked where his wife was from, he said they had moved from Oak Park, and she grew up there.

Stunned – this never happens, people from Oak Park do not move southwest – I asked if his wife likes it here. He told me she absolutely abhors it. She’s a fish out of water.

So, I asked, why are you here, then? He told me his wife had been robbed three times in Oak Park, and the last time, they hurt her by ripping her necklace off. And he announced to the missus, that day: Enough of your Oak Park nonsense – we’re outta here.

Today, they have three kids, two of them toddlers. They can attend the public schools without fear. They can walk down the streets without fear. You can leave something on your porch without having it disappear in twenty minutes. And I’m sure the wife still misses the vibrancy of Oak Park.

People believe what they want to believe.

Some do, but fewer than can get a bus. And when you subtract those who don’t want to risk their car in a looting/driveby/whatever, the pool is smaller still.

Exurbs elsewhere were built around commuter rail, which still runs. Those aren’t overrun with ‘hood scum.

It’s less than an hour by train from Harlem to Chappaqua

The train to Chappaqua is a real train with (relatively) expensive tickets and conductors on board. You can’t just hop a turnstile and skip into a subway car.

As for protracted bus trips with multiple transfers: that’s contrary to the spirit of the flash mob. If you’re jonesing to rock the casbah, Shareef won’t like it.

In the last calendar week, in Chicago, a three year old boy, a one year old boy and a 10 year old girl have all been shot and killed. But, if they were refugees, fleeing Canada, and had washed up on the shores of Lake Michigan, it would be 24/7 and looped on video. Disgusting, callous, repugnant and those are my terms for the media. I have no printable terms for the killers.
