But in Australia, white people who look like Jim Carrey are encouraged to declare themselves Aboriginal based on the One Drop of Blood theory, and the government and media are ready to come down like a ton of bricks on skeptics.

Cricket Australia has called out a ‘blatantly racist’ social-media attack on Dan Christian, which came in response to the Indigenous allrounder opening up about casual racism in his sport.
Christian, a proud Wiradjuri man who represented Australia in 35 limited-overs games and captained an Aboriginal XI, detailed his experiences in the first episode of CA’s new series Cricket Connecting Country.
Christian recalled how he’d been the subject of throwaway lines and jokes about ‘the colour of my skin and the fact that I don’t look Aboriginal or whatever that means’.
Administrators at the governing body were disgusted that one user on Twitter, whose identity is now being investigated, responded to the session by questioning Christian’s Aboriginality.
‘You’re as much indigenous as my fat white dog is a dingo,’ the troll wrote.
This seems like a clever way to get rid of problems of racial inequality in Australia. While actual Australian Aborigines lag on most statistical measures of achievement, if you just declare a lot of people who are, say, 15/16th white to be Aboriginal, hesto presto, The Gap is mostly Gone. You just have to remember to get really really mad at any skeptics.
Apparently, the genes in Aboriginals for looks are fairly recessive, so even a 3/4th white person might look close to all white.
Something like this seems to be happening in the U.S. with the Hispanic category. The new New York Times listing below of Powerful Persons of Color includes a number of people of pure Iberian descent as Hispanic-Americans. (It even includes a Spanish CEO in Madrid).

Hate crime claim added in shooting death of 18-year-old California Black man
A grand jury indictment unsealed Wednesday says racial hatred was a motive for one of the two men charged in the slaying of an 18-year-old Black man at a Moreno Valley party earlier this year — a special circumstance that victim Massai Cole’s family has fought to get added to the case.
That special circumstance claim, along with another of lying in wait, makes defendant Darren Peter Zesk, 19, eligible for the death penalty if the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office decides to seek it, and if he is convicted as charged, the office said.
Cole’s family had been pressing for the hate-crime allegation, citing a racist rap song that Zesk had posted put on YouTube in June of 2018.
Cole, a Ventura High School graduate, was visiting the area when he was slain early on Feb. 1.
Zesk was initially charged with first-degree murder in Cole’s slaying, but not with the special circumstances. Darren Zesk’s nephew , Jared Lee Zesk, 19, also was charged with first-degree murder in Cole’s death.
“Today I felt like we had a little victory,” Jevon Cole, Massai’s father, said by phone Wednesday, adding that the moment was still sad for him. “I wish I had my son, but at the same time I want these guys to pay for what they did.”
Both Zesks pleaded not guilty in earlier stages of the case. Prosecutors said the Zesks went to the same party that Cole was at on Century Street in Moreno Valley, starting the night of Jan. 31.

Cole’s family also wanted a hate crime allegation filed against Jared Zesk, citing what they described as a social media picture of him sitting on the back of a pickup truck with a Confederate flat along with a Trump campaign flag.
The family and activists including Black Lives Matter Inland Empire have campaigned through social media and with events to bring focus to the case.
“I’m very pleased to hear this, but as far as getting justice for Massai Cole, there is still work to be done,” Black Lives Matter Inland Empire organizer Darrin Johnson said Wednesday.
The District Attorney’s Office initially said it could not file a hate crime allegation in the case because of a lack of evidence linking it directly to Cole’s slaying.
Deputy District Attorney Kevin Beecham asked an investigator who had interviewed Jared Zesk whether Jared mentioned any racial motivation by him or Darren connected with the shooting. The investigator, testifying at the July hearing, said Jared told him there was none, according to a transcript .
That changed with a grand jury hearing, Hall said Wednesday. The indictment of Darren Zesk “comes as a result of new evidence that was uncovered after the preliminary hearing during the ongoing investigation into Cole’s murder,” he said.
The indictment was filed Aug. 20, court records show.
Hall said details would not be immediately released. His statement did not mention the video. Jevon Cole said Wednesday he understood that Jared Zesk had testified “to save himself” in the grand jury hearings. Hall said he could not comment on grand jury proceedings.

They are two fundamentally different types of people, and their respective cultures are vastly different. In 1980 less than 700,000 Americans claimed to be American Indian on the census. in 1990 almost 2 million Americans claimed to be American Indian on the US census. On the 2020 census we should expect this number to grow significantly , as millions of Americans have discovered they are .2% Native American via DNA testing.

The abo kids I was at school with were rational to see time spent on whitefella tasks as waste of time: learning primary-school stuff is 100% wasted effort if you expect to spend your life as a jackaroo on one of the country-sized cattle stations.
They only went to school because their parents got money for every day they attended – that’s not the kids’ fault, nor the parents: they were being compelled to waste their kids’ time on pointless whitefella shit, so it’s only fitting that they be compensated.

When I was at uni, being a resident of some suburbs of Melbourne gave a 30-point – out of 410 – ‘poverty premium’ to applicants.

It’s stupid to try to conflate Australian Aboriginal (Australian natives) with Maori (New Zealand natives).
They are two fundamentally different types of people, and their respective cultures are vastly different. Polynesian culture is extremely kin-embracing, and Maori culture is Polynesian culture on steroids. Aboriginal culture – to the extent that there is a ‘representative’ culture that applies to all aborigines – is a good fit for the extremely harsh, unforgiving landscape in which it developed.
The reason Stokes ‘identifies’ as part-Maori is for the same reason as I do; we have a Maori ancestor that we’re not ashamed of. The fact that Maori culture is highly-valued in New Zealand is entirely irrelevant.
It has nothing whatsoever to do with white guilt, or any such nonsense. It doesn’t hurt to have a birthright to membership in a strong, honour-centred culture.

Let’s look at some examples…
Jason Momoa is as Hawaiian as my Mum is Maori (i.e., 50% – assuming that Momoa’s father was a pureblood). How far from Momoa’s father do his descendants get to claim to be Polynesian?
Dwayne Johnson – same story (i.e., he’s 50% Samoan – assuming his mother was 100%): his first wife is Cuban – are their kids allowed to identify as Polynesian? Are they allowed to identify as ‘African American’? Johnson’s father was a black Canadian – so most likely Afro-Caribbean. Are they allowed to be proud of their Cuban heritage?
What about Keanu Reeves? Is he permitted to be Polynesian? Chink? Portuguese? English? (His mother was 100% English – from Essex). Lebanese? (Trick question: he was only born in Lebanon – in the same way that white Yanks and their ancestors were only born in America).
What about Sonny Bill Williams? (Samoan Dad, pakeha Mum). Is he Polynesian? He’s whiter than me.
Far more important – from the point of view of the culture – is whether the individual has a sense that the culture is important to them. So Keanu is lost to the Polynesians, as I understand it: a pity.

The MSM describes her as Aboriginal, but from photographs of her she might not even be a sixteenth. To be fair to her, she doesn’t publicly claim to be Aboriginal.

Australia seems like a very lucky place. No "legacy of slavery" black population.
Low population density. Relative isolation. "White Australia" kept the place pretty white and coherent, seemingly building toward a single "Australian" identity. And (quick scan of demographics on wikipedia) only 15-20% non-white now--mostly Asian with a few percent aboriginal. Not fatal--yet.Basically Australia looks like it's on the cusp of destruction, but still salvageable. My (friendly outsider) advice:

To be honest, no society can hope to survive unless it totally isolates itself from all American influences – political, economic, cultural.
It beggars belief that in some cases seemingly white people would rather associate with blacks, dropping to a low level of alcoholism and drug taking, whinging and receiving benefits. When in reality by appearing white they could very easily get a job, pay taxes, save for a house and car and have a sense of pride, positively interacting with fellow whites.
Or it may simply be the case that this cricketer would not be playing professionally except for a black team. But it is funny how people usually say not to label anyone, putting them into pigeon holes. Different though when there’s money involved.

The recent Covid 2nd wave debacle in Victoria was caused by giving the contract for guarding quarantine detainees to an ‘indigenously owned’ security firm who had no experience in this type of work. This was done as a form of affirmative action by the Marxist state government of Victoria instead of taking the Defence Force personnel offered by the capitalist Federal government. I have no doubt that all of the ‘indigenous owners’, or at least the managers, would be white. Julia Chinn and her two daughters with Richard Mentor Johnson were predominately white. The two daughters certainly looked totally white and married white men. Propaganda against Johnson darkened the skin color of Chin and his daughters because, otherwise, there would be nothing to SEE that would upset anyone. All the Johnson descendants are white.

There is a fair bit of intermarriage in Australia mainly between white men and Asian women ( and not all of them are with much younger Thai/ Filipina wives with a prior career in the entertainment industry )
Much of it turns out well . I’ve seen a number of men who would never have married if they were confined to the white women pool ( not me by the way )

Not really, the topic has only been analysed in a narrow way, non-empirical way, and those that do come up with explanations tend to be pushing their own agendas. For example, religious conservatives say its due to the decline of religion, which doesn’t make a lot of sense since there is little connection between how religious a country is and how conservative it is on immigration or affirmative action. Switzerland for example, is a lot less religious than the US, yet is noticeably more conservative on such matters. Others blame the Jews for everything, even though the vast majority of woke leftists are white WASPs or people who could easily pass for north European if they wanted to.
One important factor than is rarely mentioned is the decline of overt imperialism and the rise of soft power imperialism. Racial pride is very useful in societies which have to dominate other races by force, but tends to be a liability when you’re trying to sell them movies, soft drinks and T-shirts.
Another is the absence of foreign pandemics between 1968 and 2020. People tend to be less liberal towards other races and cultures when contact with them leads to the spread of deadly diseases.
A third is western technological dominance over other races, which leads to complacency and virtue signalling. This is beginning to change as Europe is starting to react to the threat of Islamic terrorism by reducing immigration (terrorism is a time tested way of bypassing tech dominance in military power) and the US starts reacting to the economic threat from Chinese manufacturing hegemony.

As noted by other responses there are lots of ‘aboriginal targeted’ jobs in the public service, though lately I’ve noticed some of them now say they will accept applications from non-aboriginal people too. There are also various welfare payments and arts grants that are only for aboriginals. So there’s plenty of financial incentive to discover that aboriginal great grandparent. Australians are generous but cynical – nobody is under any illusions as to why the number of people saying they’re aboriginal has increased dramatically the last 10-15 years. I sometimes wonder why the full bloods put up with it.
A year or two back I read an article by an Australian aboriginal woman who claimed it was all white people’s fault her husband got drunk and bashed her.
I feel bad for them. It must hurt to be treated so by your own men. No wonder they look for someone else to blame.
