Suspect in fatal shooting of Bothell police officer ordered held without bail

July 15, 2020 at 4:39 pm Updated July 15, 2020 at 6:49 pm

By Sara Jean Green
Seattle Times staff reporter

A judge found probable cause Wednesday to hold a 37-year-old man on investigation of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Bothell police Officer Jonathan Shoop on Monday night.

King County District Court Judge Joe Campagna also found probable cause to hold Henry E. Washington on investigation of first-degree assault for allegedly shooting and injuring a second officer; vehicular assault for allegedly hitting a man on a scooter with his vehicle; and attempting to elude police.

Then in the 8th paragraph:

A witness shot video that shows Washington outside his car as the patrol vehicle approached the intersection and stopped, the statement says. Other witnesses later told police the driver yelled, “Come on, pigs,” as he quickly moved around the front of the patrol car and fired two shots into the police SUV through the driver’s-side window, according to the statement. …

Police say Washington claimed he shot the officers in self-defense to keep them from taking his vehicle, marijuana and gun, according to the statement.

What does BLM want? In the minds of many of its most excitable supporters, a growing assumption appears to be: Black Impunity. To avoid arrest, blacks excuse me Blacks should have a right to kill cops.

As somebody on Twitter pointed out to me, a certain percentage of black martyrs (e.g., Michael Brown, Rayshard Brooks) assume that life is like the Grand Theft Auto game in which if a policeman stops you, you can steal his weapon and try to shoot him with it, then just go home and lie low for a days until the cops forget all about it.

Or, at minimum, BLM advocates increasingly believe that blacks should simply be let go if they don’t feel like cooperating with arresting officers. For example:

The BLM movement wants impunity for black lawbreakers, punity for white speakers.

Blacks are easy to replace. Cops are not. You need the temperament and special training to be a cop. It requires an investment on the part of a municipality to create a cop. Cops are valuable. Dumb, violent, ghetto blacks on welfare are completely worthless. Ghetto blacks are nothing but parasites on a city’s budget.

Frankly, big cities are heading for massive trouble just for budget reasons. If they’re trying to defund the police as a way of cutting the budget, eventually they’ll have to cut teacher pay and pensions as well. Eventually, they’ll have to cut welfare. There will be nothing left to cut.

The easy ride for blacks is going to disappear because cities can’t get their finances under control.

The mayor of my midwestern city begs to differ: "Every single person who calls Rockford home is valuable." Thus spake white Mayor Tom McNamara. The murderers, armed robbers, carjackers and home-invaders of Rockford are now officially reassured of their "value."

The mayor's remark was prompted by typical black outrage over something our police chief said. The chief had stated that 16-year-old criminals committing gun violence belong in prison. This obviously true proposition is apparently hurtful to the feelings of BIPOCs. The mayor caved to the stupid mob with his brain-dead, pernicious platitude, undermining our police chief in a time of serious civil unrest.

At the very least, they want the right to violently resist arrest. That’s how blacks choose to martyr themselves for “social justice” and civil law settlements. Beyond that, they seem to want police to ignore black crime in general, unless they were summoned specifically by blacks.

These GTA references really speak to me as a Millennial.

The nice thing is there’s a status bar on the screen with between 0 and 6 police badges to indicate how badly you are wanted by the police. Once the last icon disappears, you’re basically acquitted.

The part of GTA where after being arrested you are back out on the streets 15 seconds later, minus only the guns you were carrying, was ahead of its time. This is now how NY’s bail reform work:

    https://dailycaller.com/2020/06/24/criminals-bail-reform-nyc-worst/

Charles Barry, 56, Arrested Over 138 Times, “Bail Reform, it’s lit!”

Charles Barry was arrested and subsequently released five times in five weeks since the start of Cuomo’s bail reform. Each time he walked out of jail, he committed another offense, The New York Daily News reported in February.

Barry — who’s reportedly been behind bars 138 times — is a serial pickpocket, subway thief and credit card poacher. Judges were expressly forbidden from levying bail against him since January, according to the New York outlet.

Barry bragged he was untouchable to a New York Daily News reporter in a follow-up report. “I’m famous! I take $200, $300 a day of your money, cracker! You can’t stop me!” he yelled at the reporter.

“Bail reform, it’s lit!” Barry continued. “It’s the Democrats! The Democrats know me and the Republicans fear me. You can’t touch me! I can’t be stopped!”

Apparently BLM wants to suppress and destroy whiteness. What is whiteness? In the minds of the curators at the black history museum in DC, whiteness consists of abominable traits such as delayed gratification and future time orientation, decision making, rugged individualism and history (I think they meant awareness of history but in the usual negro avoidance of modifuers …).

They want to suppress everything that makes civilization white but not at the expense of removing the tangible products of whiteness.

  24. Speaking of local news, I found this story interesting.

So after the riots where the city had a few unfortunate videos go “viral” nationwide, there has been continued high levels of shooting and stabbing. So out comes this emergency order banning larger groups in public. Not a curfew. Does not apply to bars and restaurants. Doesn’t apply to say, a birthday party. Seems like they are walking a fine line by trying to say “no black males allowed outside” without actually saying it. This from a black mayor!

And of course there were 30 arrests on the first night due to “protests” over the order.

  25. Interesting case of self-defense. At least he admitted the chronic was his and didn’t pull the “that ain’t even mine” routine.

Probably, BLM got this cop killed. They likely held their fire as this maniac was approaching their cruiser because George Floyd.

  26. Local crime blotter Bayonne France Friday 7/10

A “ group” not men, boys, or women got on a city bus. None wore medical masks, a new law, they had an unleashed not muzzled dog with them, an old law, and did not have tickets.

The driver told them to , buy tickets, leash and muzzle the dog , and put on masks. The “ group” beat him………….. he was declared dead at the hospital.

That’s the French version and the English translation.
The group attacked him and somehow by the time he arrived at the hospital he was mysteriously dead.

    Here’s the Italian version.

Four Arab men attempted to get on a bus. When the driver told them to buy tickets and put on masks they killed him by kicking and punching him.

Ambulance arrived declared dead, French cabinet minister of the interior promised strong security measures, yada yada yada, went to Bayonne, visited family, wife and grown children all horrified and distraught. Bus Drivers Union demands to know exactly what the new security measures will be and when.

Time for une greve national by the bus drivers. Perhaps 2 armed guards on every bus every minute it’s in service? It would vastly lower the unemployment rate.

So the “get off my neck” could not be a reference to Floyd.

  37. “The BLM movement wants impunity for black lawbreakers, punity for white speakers.”

Yeah, I think that rather well sums up the views of BLM, which is an aggressively homosexual-leaning and Marxist organization. BLM thinks that blacks are magical/spiritual beings who have been bullied and oppressed for damn-near 500 years, or however they count the black history in this country. As a result, and based on his rationale, blacks can do anything (rape/murder) for approximately another 500 years to make up for it. Simplistic, childish but yet startlingly clear in their goals. Sad.

  38. First you grab the cell phone, smash it underfoot and throw it down the storm drain. Then you need one of those 8 foot poles with a noose on the end that they use for catching gators. Eight foot so you don’t have to actually touch the guy. You fish that in and loop him around the neck, shoulders or torso. Give the pole a tug to tighten the noose and yank him out of the car. Let him flail, he’s 8 feet away and can’t spit on you, scratch or gouge you. Lasso him with another line or two and then tie the bitter ends off to your cruiser. Now you drive at a sedate pace to the station with him walking along behind you for all the world to see. If he stumbles, you drag him. Follow this procedure and I will guarantee that he will never flip a cop sh*t again.

Blacks are easy to replace. Cops are not. You need the temperament and special training to be a cop. It requires an investment on the part of a municipality to create a cop. Cops are valuable. Dumb, violent, ghetto blacks on welfare are completely worthless. Ghetto blacks are nothing but parasites on a city's budget.

Frankly, big cities are heading for massive trouble just for budget reasons. If they're trying to defund the police as a way of cutting the budget, eventually they'll have to cut teacher pay and pensions as well. Eventually, they'll have to cut welfare. There will be nothing left to cut.

The easy ride for blacks is going to disappear because cities can't get their finances under control.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — A Virginia state trooper is on administrative leave and faces a criminal investigation for his conduct against a Black driver during a 2019 traffic stop in Fairfax County.

Video of the April 20, 2019, encounter between State Trooper Charles Hewitt and Derrick Thompson of Woodbridge emerged earlier this week on social media. Erlich Law Office, the law firm representing Thompson, claimed he was heading to work when “Hewitt terrorized and assaulted him.”

According to a Virginia State Police news release, the traffic stop happened at the 51 mile marker of the northbound Capital Beltway. A state trooper conducting a traffic stop reportedly detected a strong odor of marijuana from Thompson’s vehicle and found he was driving on a suspended driver’s license. Additional troopers were called to the scene to assist.

State police allege Thompson refused to comply with repeated requests to get out of his vehicle. About 10 minutes later, Hewitt told Thompson he was under arrest. As Thompson refused to leave the vehicle, Hewitt forcibly removed Thompson from the vehicle…

Virginia State Police Superintendent Col. Gary Settle said in a statement he received the 2-minute video clip. The law enforcement agency says it first received a complaint about the incident this week.

“The conduct displayed by Trooper Hewitt during the course of the traffic stop is not in agreement with the established standards of conduct required of a Virginia trooper,” said Settle. “Nor is it characteristic of the service provided daily across the Commonwealth of Virginia by Virginia State Police personnel.”

In the minds of the curators at the black history museum in DC, whiteness consists of abominable traits such as delayed gratification and future time orientation, decision making, rugged individualism and history (I think they meant awareness of history but in the usual negro avoidance of modifuers ...).

All guns are fitted with AI. They can open a drawer or cabinet door, even a locked one, load themselves, jump down to the floor. Hippety hop across the room, open the door, hippety hop down the stairs and out the front door.

Then they fly around the city like drones randomly causing bullets to fly And people to die. I’m thinking of a video game. 3 or 4 players fly the guns around the city. Whoever gets the most kills wins. First gun to get out of the house starts out with a 10 point bonus.

First you grab the cell phone, smash it underfoot and throw it down the storm drain. Then you need one of those 8 foot poles with a noose on the end that they use for catching gators. Eight foot so you don't have to actually touch the guy. You fish that in and loop him around the neck, shoulders or torso. Give the pole a tug to tighten the noose and yank him out of the car. Let him flail, he's 8 feet away and can't spit on you, scratch or gouge you. Lasso him with another line or two and then tie the bitter ends off to your cruiser. Now you drive at a sedate pace to the station with him walking along behind you for all the world to see. If he stumbles, you drag him. Follow this procedure and I will guarantee that he will never flip a cop sh*t again.

I speculate that part of the reason we are getting rioting and frenzied demands for zero enforcement of black crime is the lurking suspicion by the left that our most recent President will soon get outed for spying on Trump and possibly millions of others for political reasons. Trump has been reeling in the Democrats waiting for the right time to drop the FISA warrants, 302’s, and god only knows what else. There is probably little if no risk that Obama will go to the clink but the thought of the first black President being tarred with such a humiliation is probably more than some people can deal with. An unprincipled con man, or his ghostwriter, once called it The Audacity of Hope; and right now we need every scrap of it we can get.

Takimag pays its writers for their articles, and as far as I can tell it doesn’t syndicate those articles or republish articles from elsewhere, with the exception of writing by Taki himself (and possibly that oddball Jorge Montojo — what’s up with him?). When Steve publishes an article at Takimag it doesn’t get republished here — instead Steve posts a pointer to it. OTOH, Unz does seem to allow articles that were written for Unz to be republished elsewhere (e.g., VDARE carries everything Steve writes for Unz, while Unz carries various articles written for VDARE).

I can understand why that cop got so annoyed and angry, I would be, too. Then again, maybe police should select for guys who don't get emotional like that.

On topic: sure, blacks seem to feel invulnerable at the moment.

Good thing you’re not a cop.

Then again, maybe police should select for guys who don’t get emotional like that.

There is or was not long ago routine training that rookies went through just to teach them how to gain compliance in exactly such a situation. That cop needs remedial training on verbals, compliance and the continuum of force.

White people in rural areas in other parts of the country and are not going to pay taxes to support some worthless, violent, dumb black on welfare in a big city. There will be no federal funds to bail out cities from problems of their own making.

  76. Why didn’t the cop impound the phone? The guy wants to play to an audience? Take the camera out of the car and he will either lose it, or “lose it”.

“Sir: I have reason to believe that this device contains evidence that a criminal act has been committed and now need to take it into custody…”

  77. According to https://mynorthwest.com/2028637/partners-bullet-struck-shoop-bothell/ the bullet that killed officer Jonathan Shoop was fired by his partner, Mustafa Kumcur. Allegedly,

During the cross fire, police believe a bullet Washington fired struck Kumcur’s firearm. That may have helped deflect the bullet from fatally striking Kumcur in the face, though he was injured. But it also may have re-positioned Kumcur’s weapon towards Shoop, causing Kumcur to unintentionally fire on his partner.

    The original story states:

The officers made a traffic stop just after 9:40 p.m. Monday, pulling over a black Pontiac G6 because it didn’t have license plates, the statement says.

It’s remarkable how often the police catch criminals for reasons like this – often for serious offenses. Studies of convicted criminals often show them to have low IQ. You have to wonder whether there are high-IQ criminals who never get caught because they are smart enough not to drive their guns and drugs across town without license plates.

This isn’t normal, to say the least. For an urban area of a little over 2 million people, the Seattle area typically stays within double-digit numbers for annual homicides. Something is going on out there. And it’s not happening in the typical places it does. These are in the ‘burbs, including some very tony, normally very safe ones.

It's probably some of the 8.3 million guns sold since March committing some of that spontaneous gun violence now that they've been freed from the gun store.

  80. The cop probably didn’t handle it in the most professional manner, but I think he used incredible restraint in not dragging that negro out of the car sooner. The negro was recording his own resistance offense charge that can be used against him in court. Real smart.

Also, everyone has a first amendment right to record the police (except for one federal circuit, I forget which one), but be prepared to suffer the consequences for escalating the situation.

Low IQ negroes don’t know the law. The SCOTUS established that during a lawful traffic stop, police can absolutely order you out of your car. This was established 23 years ago, in the seminal case of Maryland vs. Wilson.

One of the things I am noticing is how the 'protesters' all seem to be coached on what cliches to mouth when being arrested. "I cannot breathe" being first and foremost but other such as "I feel threatened" or "you are hurting me", etc. The people standing around also seem to go into chimp out mode screaming and getting within arms reach, particularly the women. When the cops start putting the cuffs on someone they start trying to create as much chaos as possible. Many of these police have to arrest a resister with dozens of people behind them shouting threats and even assaulting the when they are looking the other way. In a normal society the public would be covering the cops backs but in the ghetto the opposite is true. And never mind sympathetic witnesses. The only ones being those who stupidly recorded the crimes and posted them to get attention.

I speculate that part of the reason we are getting rioting and frenzied demands for zero enforcement of black crime is the lurking suspicion by the left that our most recent President will soon get outed for spying on Trump and possibly millions of others for political reasons. Trump has been reeling in the Democrats waiting for the right time to drop the FISA warrants, 302's, and god only knows what else. There is probably little if no risk that Obama will go to the clink but the thought of the first black President being tarred with such a humiliation is probably more than some people can deal with. Better to inoculate him now and prep the country for the revelations. If he is beyond criticism due to being black, that might help the feelings of his snowflake sycophantic followers.

  84. Steve,

Did you see that officer Shoop was not actually shot by the criminal?

He was actually shot by his partner, who was sitting in the passenger seat of the police vehicle Shoop was driving. His partner accidentally shot him in the head while firing at the criminal. The partner’s name? Mustafa Kumcur….
