If you were in a cynical frame of mind, you might conclude that The Great Awokening / Black Lives Matter is mostly a Jobs for the Boys racket.

From the Collins Dictionary:

“Jobs for the boys”

… work is unfairly given to someone’s friends, supporters, or relations, even though they may not be the best qualified people to do it.

[British, disapproval]
The Party has been accused of creating a ‘jobs for the boys’ system of government.

Synonyms: cronyism, favouritism, nepotism

But of course the current Racial Reckoning can’t be a Jobs for the Boys grift because that would be sexist and cisgendered. The proper term is, therefore, Jobs for the Theys.

The Times should set a goal to have its workforce demographics reflect the makeup of New York City—24% Black and over 50% people of color—by 2025.

Yeah, well, what percentage shall be Jewish, and in what positions, hmmmm? Where will Bari Weiss’s cousin fit in – and you better fit her in if you know what’s good for you.

lol @ libtards always ready to enforce DIEversity on other people but not themselves.

  2. Why should a global paper have a workforce that matches New York City’s demographics?

    • Agree: Clyde
  3. 24% Black and over 50% people of color—by 2025.

A laudable goal, and it must be policed with a vengeance. Exactly 24%, and if someone dies or quits, someone else must be fired, or hired, or, um, killed. I think I have that right.

  5. @anon

Yeah, well, what percentage shall be Jewish, and in what positions, hmmmm?

Anti-semite! Nazi! Which reminds me. What percentage of NYC are anti-semites? I’ll bet it’s growing. They must be represented too, you know. David Duke was just thrown off Twitter, maybe the NYT will offer him the post of executive editor.

  6. What happened to SBPDL Steve.?

    • Replies: @Achmed E. Newman
  7. Arts, Opinion, Entertainment, Sports….. there are a lot of places for DIEversity in the NYT, without reducing job placement in the valuable parts of the paper.

  8. This is good news because if it’s carried out, it’ll lower quality of the writing to a point that will cause white elites to stop reading the Times.

  9. How about jobs for the its?

  10. Escher says:
    @Dave Pinsen

Correct. It needs to have a workforce that mirrors the world’s demographics.

Indeed and with 90% of negroes only being expert on the topic of negroism how would the NYT cover Chinese politics, the economy or much of anything beyond the racial rantings of its ill informed staff. Newspapers have to be aware their declining circulation and ad revenue is in large part due to their ideological fixations that most of the public do not share. When people turn to the sports section they are not concerned with the the name of the Washington Redskins or the Atlanta Braves they want to know the statistics of the players.

There will be enforced reading, and at least the lower rungs of the elites will LIKE it.

The Biden-Kamala “Go on, open da New York Times law” or “GOODNYT law” will keep the outer party members in economics, politics and academe well appraised and duckspeaky.

  13. @International Jew

It is funny, because it will be worse than even past experience suggests.

Every black person, from the almost talented enough, to the passably talented, is already under such demand in our systematically discriminatory system, that those left for this further advance will be hilariously unsuitable.

Of course, in a battle between what people think makes them good (in this case, believing in progressive ideology), and actually living in truth, the need to think they are good always wins, until it suddenly doesn’t.

The distortion builds its own momentum, before getting so heavy that it just has to collapse. No one can mentally support it anymore.

Are we there yet? No, but goodness me, if scraping the barrel for the most hopeless of affirmative action hires, doesn’t wake the NYT journalists up, then they are even more ossified than they seem.

Or, we can all not care who the hell works for the NY Times because we don’t read it and don’t take any of the mainstream Lyin’ Press seriously. For me, it’s been something like 20 years.

  19. It is often claimed there should be proportionate “representation” based on demographics on the unproven presumption that groups are inherently different.

When will a scientist demonstrate the “diversity” between groups? And why should people who are supposedly inherently different succeed proportionately, as if they AREN’T inherently different?

I’m thinking there might be a scam afoot!

  20. Aardvark says:
    @Mike Pierson, Davenport Rector, Midfielder

Sounds like a redo of the 70’s when they first implemented quotas. As I recall, there were endless editorials making fun of what to do for small workforces? Did they need to find someone who was 1/5th Inuit and 2/5’s Native American and 2/5’s something else, they wrote?
So what do they do here if 24% black means they need 38.5 black people? Do they round up to 39 or do they find a mulatto?

  21. @Not Only Wrathful

Take a look at the various POCs they’ve hired in the past several years. Fair to conclude that quality is irrelevant. Just sit quietly while they lecture you.

  22. And they very carefully limit the catchment area to NYC and not the country as a whole.
What a holocaust National representation would cause.

One must admit they have made good headway, they exceeded the country’s rate of semi-literacy a while ago.

  23. @International Jew

They might stop reading it but will they stop quoting it or cancel their subscription ? those are what count.

  24. @Steve Sailer

What evidence do you have that those who subscribe ( in reality paid by their employers) actually read the rag?
I never did after the first several months.

  25. pirelli says:
    @Not Only Wrathful

Of course, in a battle between what people think makes them good (in this case, believing in progressive ideology), and actually living in truth, the need to think they are good always wins, until it suddenly doesn’t.

Very perceptive comment, and I’d like to think we’re getting close to a time when the internal contradictions of progressive orthodoxy become unsupportable, and all but the most die-hard fanatics leave the church. And yet… The more pessimistic part of me thinks we’re only at the beginning of the present Great Awakening. The public displays of piety have reached a fever pitch in the last few months that exceeds anything I’ve seen before. For example, I have never read a more slavishly laudatory book review than Dwight Garner’s review of Isabel Wilkerson’s new book, Caste:

[A]n instant American classic and almost certainly the keynote nonfiction book of the American century thus far. It made the back of my neck prickle from its first pages, and that feeling never went away.

I told more than one person, as I moved through my days this past week, that I was reading one of the most powerful nonfiction books I’d ever encountered.

Well, I suppose I shouldn’t say it exceeds anything I’ve read before. There’s always A.O. Scott’s description of Between the World and Me as “essential, like water or air.” Anyway, there are countless similar examples of elite whites in media and academia publicly performing their devotion to the new religion. I’m afraid this is going to get much worse before it gets better, but I suppose it’s always darkest before the dawn.

    • Thanks: Not Only Wrathful
  26. @Achmed E. Newman

My parents complained about the NYT in the 70’s.

Their conservative friends would bring in articles and use them as examples of why the media was anti-American, anti-morality, anti-freedom.

  27. They’re young and they got their health. What do they want with jobs?

They just want to be on the payroll.

  28. @Dave Pinsen

Jews to constitute 1in 400 employees at each level?

  29. Geschrei says:

The Times should set a goal to have its workforce demographics reflect the makeup of New York City—24% Black and over 50% people of color—by 2025.

I am reminded of a now 45-year-old quote from rock critic Lester Bangs (RIP), in a review of a live performance by Paul McCartney & Wings:

“Having Linda McCartney playing keyboards in a multi-million dollar world tour is like hiring a good black construction worker to edit the New York Times.

Somewhere in the afterlife, Mr. Bangs is probably wondering how in the hell he was so prescient.

We all try to cope, but that’s not how this works. No human can opt out of being a social animal, not even Ted K (in the end, least of all Ted K). Being part of a society means being part of its power structure, and the NYT is the preeminent mouthpiece of power in America, which is why Steve continually monitors it. You can ignore it, but it will not ignore you.

At least one can say it’s getting easier to decipher – no need for Pravda-like convolutions to interpret. Everything is increasingly, ‘get Whitey, Jews exempt.’

  31. One wonders. The paper circulation is down 50% from a a decade ago, digital is cheaper so the digital is up to 1.5 million, although they make less money on digital. Their strategy may be to collect the virtue signallers around the country on the cheap and that may be a sound strategy, which also allows them to do more and more ridiculous things without blowback from readers. It is easy to see where this leads because it is already half way there.

    • Agree: HammerJack
  32. @Steve Sailer

Can you document that with Atlantic facts?

  33. In flush economic times you could afford to hire a whole new layer of diverse do-nothings — special assistant to the op-editor or special project teams where two competent people carry six others along — but things are too tight now to carry many free-riders.

The lack of blacks in the newsroom has been an issue for 50 years and is never going to change. Blacks who do have their act together have other ambitions and do not need this crap. And along with the feminization of reporting and editing this will continue to be a major source of the white guilt that has warped nearly everything we see and hear.

  34. @anon

Applied evenly to everything, this Weltanschauung would get many blacks out of sports and plenty of cripples in. 51% of fishermen (fishers?) should be female. The blind should be proportionally represented among surgeons. Far more women should be climbing far beyond the testosterone ceiling and straight up cell phone towers. The heroic Times has apparently already hired fairly from the pool of available Down syndrome journalism applicants. Next on their agenda, oak trees will be encouraged to produce peaches, and wheelchair users to ascend Everest, subsidized by taxes, of course.

  35. @Dave Pinsen

Be careful: they might counter that they claim to be the “National paper of record,” and so are entitled to reflect national demographics. Better we make them match NYC for now.

  36. @Achmed E. Newman

Yeah, over 20 years for me since I bought one. My last straw was Elian Gonzalez (who I thought should be returned to his father, btw) and the NYT showing the picture of the smiling boy instead of the terrified kid with jackbooted thugs pointing weapons at him. That picture was the story.

  37. @Chrisnonymous

That commercial originally ended as “New Jersey? … Get a rope.” Funny for two reasons: aiming at Campbell’s soup, and it reflected the NYers typical disdain for NJ. Of course, the rest of the country didn’t get that, so they went with the four-syllable NYC, which destroyed the rhythm of the expression.

  38. Anon[296] • Disclaimer says:

Both the Times and the WaPo publish diversity stats, and I was surprised at how few black journalists they have, maybe 8 percent each. I figured the WaPo had hit 50 percent, given the nature of the articles they publish.

Amy Wax just did another Glenn Loury podcast, on Murray’s “Human Diversity,” and one thing she says is that there is a surprising ignorance about how few qualified black candidates there are for most professional jobs. Even intelligent people think that it could only be bigotry keeping the numbers non-proportional.

For the Times the union is using census data in their manifesto. In any disparate impact case the first issue is to establish the population to be used as the model. I don’t think the Times should use NYC census data. Maybe paid subscribers? Maybe add online readers? You will quickly arrive at a black percentage of less than 1 percent.

  39. When did the nyt start thinking of themselves as a local paper needing to reflect the demographics of the NYC ? And, are lots of “members of tribe” going to be kicked to the curb to make the numbers work? Who’s going to do the counting?

  40. I bought the local liberal municipal type paper for years solely to work the NYT crossword, but when the local paper printed The Russians Are Coming crap I stopped buying it. I assumed years ago that the Cocaine Importing Agency keeps NYT, WAPO, and all that other nonsense afloat. The best part of waking up in a corrupt society is you get to find your own demise.

They need to be worried about the future of the Times, period. Newspapers across the board are having a terrible time surviving due to lack of advertising. Even the Times has had cutbacks. I think they got rid of all proofreaders and copy editors as well as some reporters.

The Newspaper Guild union has lost thousands of members. I don’t think the working conditions of people of color at the Times should be a priority.

Shouldn’t the demographics of the paper more closely match that of the readers rather than New York City? The Times does not see itself as a paper for the people. How many of its reporters are native New Yorkers?

This effort just seems terribly besides the point.

  45. Daniel H says:

We should support these initiatives and demand that the same demographic measures pertain to Citibank, Goldman, Google, Cravath, Columbia University, etc.

I have myself written that it IS a good thing that at least the one guy reads it, iSteve, that is, so we can see the stupidity with our own eyes second-hand, if we want . We can ignore it and at least have the satisfaction in knowing they know that*.

Yes, I do get that you can ignore politics, but politics will not ignore you. They Lyin’ Press cannot stand to be ignored. That’s why you ignore them.

    .

    * Something that would not have been true before the full-time on-line era.

  50. @Steve Sailer

Maybe because they’ve tightened up their site? Used to let you read ten articles per month, now it’s just three (and I’m not sure that even resets after a month).

Or maybe, as the Times has vecome more ideological, they’re getting subscriptions from people who aren’t so interested in reading the paper but want to support it the same way they’d support a political candidate.

  51. Rob McX says:

The revenue of a news outlet doesn’t count for much any more. A lot of them are owned by plutocrats who just use them to spread the globohomo gospel and can afford to run them at a loss. They still need people to read what they publish, of course. But they don’t need an awful lot of readers. What matters is how much influence their readers have, e.g. how many of them are college professors, etc.

  52. I wonder what kind of severence package the Jews are going to give themselves to make this a reality?

  53. JimDandy says:

Or, considering their stadium’s jurisdiction, the Prince George Floyds.

  55. Kyle says:

By your logic, limiting the zeroth amendment rights of all 7.3 billion people in the world to immigrate to america, that is also a jobs for the boys racket. So are labor unions, and nepotism. Jobs for the boys rackets are rational desires for people with normal functioning limbic systems.

Even intelligent people think that it could only be bigotry keeping the numbers non-proportional.

Among people she knows perhaps, but I doubt it. I worked for a big-shot Jewish lawyer in Manhattan 30 years ago, and I’ll never forget him complaining about a “dumb-dumb black judge in Virginia”. When I recommended my only black friend to take my place, the lawyer said, “I’ve been looking for someone like him for a long time.”

Anyone trying to hire knows they can’t find qualified black people. Surely everyone in Philadelphia (Amy Wax is at Penn) is exposed to that knowledge, at least. CRIMESTOP means the faculty of stopping short, as though by instinct, at the threshold of any dangerous thought. It includes the power of not grasping analogies, of failing to perceive logical errors, of misunderstanding the simplest arguments if they are inimical to Ingsoc, and of being bored or repelled by any train of thought which is capable of leading in a heretical direction. CRIMESTOP, in short, means protective stupidity.

I agree the NYt’s should be ignored. And by you and me, it is (as far as getting the truth). But as other commenters pointed out, the problem is the NYT’s has the greatest power of any paper. That needs to be eroded in the public’s eyes.

And there’s nothing worse than disloyalty.

    Clarity … then … Separation.

  63. @Ben tillman

    How can anyone not know?

It seems pretty remarkable … but it’s quite possible.

Most good whites–especially outside the South–grow up in environments where the blacks are few and often for elite whites, carefully curated.

They are aware that there exist “black ghettos” where blacks are being held back by poverty because of “racism”. But they do not have personal interactions with such blacks.

My take is that because of media censorship there are now a fair number of young whites (especially white women) who are actually not aware of–or at least in denial about–even the basics like “blacks commit a lot of crime”. Issues of intelligence and the dearth of top tier blacks are not even on their radar.
