I’ve been pointing out for a couple of years the growth in American culture of a Hijab Fetish. The prestige press increasingly loves to run pictures of pretty girls in Muslim headgear.
Obviously, politics is a major driving force.
Another possibility is that the recent Orientalist fad is just a cycle in fashion. Different looks go in and out of appeal: e.g., straight or curly hair, tanned or untanned skin, etc. Sometimes they get stuck for generations, like the insane Chinese footbinding fetish. So, compared to that the great wheel of fashion in the West seems sensible.
A third factor might be tied in to all the Becky Bashing, the War on Becky with the Good Hair. Black women increasingly hold the whip hand in the media. They usually seem to have the most Intersectional PoCemon Points. A very high priority for black women is intrasexual competition from women from races with longer hair. So why not make it fashionable to cover your hair, leveling the playing field?

I’m pretty certain Ilhan Omar and many Muslim/Arab chicks have “good hair.” They cover up out of dignity and, yes, a culturally ingrained sense of sexual shame, something which many a sharmuta in the West could use.
For her it is not only about modesty, it is much deeper than that. It is about "Al-Hayah" this is a concept in Islam that refers to modesty, dignity, respect, honor, and much more. Books have been written on the subject. Both men and women are required to dress modestly, for women that includes Hijab. Many women, like my wife, freely make the choice to wear hijab, not only in order to express their faith, and modesty, but also out of a desire to respect themselves, their husband, their family, their faith and co-religionists, and ultimately out of a sincere desire to show respect and honor to the supreme divinity.

In any event, I have not the slightest doubt that this media hijab push will go nowhere. The initial reaction was that the software companies did not included enough photos of black women in their AI learning sample database, which seems to have been true. I think the push to include hijab models in fashion ads and magazines is because hijabi women are a very important demographic for a declining retail industry. These days more and more retailers go out of business or decline in revenue while young women care less about fashion trends than they ever did. The body is the new apparel. But hijabis are useful to the fashion industry because they are required to wear clothes and this requirement makes them try to get around the religious modesty requirements by getting into fashion. They need fashionable clothing in order not to look completely third world.

Hijabs fit very well with the current feminist Look At Me/Don’t Look At Me paradox. Feminists are beautiful just as they are and you should acknowledge that by admiring them. But looking at them for too long is just like rape, so maybe you shouldn’t look so much. A handy way of squaring this circle is by wearing a hijab, which virtue-signals the fact that you are a beautiful feminist who cannot be touched.
This is also feeding my hypothesis that women who become feminists are submissive by nature. They are comfortable with a high degree of physical and mental control and coercion, which makes them feel like an accepted part of a group. If they had to throw away the pussy hat and disagree about the gender wage gap it would be scary and people would be mean to them, which is fatal because these women have no spiritual or intellectual resources for standing up to this. I’ll agree to take this at face value. Women do like to play dress up.
But that doesn’t mean there aren’t psychological reasons for it that they won’t (or can’t) articulate. All uniforms connote power. So, by wearing the nurses’ outfit or even a hijab, these women are seeking to be authoritative figures. When people see others in uniforms (or wearing religious garb) they usually defer to them to some degree. Some people need this authority in their lives.
I have a story about this related to clergy. The former priest at my old parish left the priesthood at one point. Despite the fact that he told everyone he was seeking freedom from the church, he returned within a few years. Why? Because he could not get used to being treated like an Average Joe in civilian clothes. He liked that when he went around in his priest’s collar, most people nodded and greeted him with things like “Good afternoon, father.”
Never underestimate some people’s needs for authority. And one final thing: Sexy outfits in and of themselves are powerful when worn by women, whether they’re nurses’ uniforms or the short skirts and skyscraper heels of today’s female execs. As Oscar Wilde once said, everything is about sex except sex, which is about power.

It is their one safe way of expressing it, although I don’t understand why their Muslim husbands or fathers allow it as it is totally at odds with the purpose of the hijab…which is to suppress beauty (thus, the covering of the hairline, which I agree greatly diminishes beauty and is decidedly unattractive) and hide it from the outside world (along with not tempting otherwise “good” Muslim men). I knew a Muslim man years ago who had nothing but contempt for Benazir Bhutto because she didn’t cover her hairline but instead wore lightly-draped, beautifully-colored headscarves that enhanced her beauty (probably one reason why she was assassinated, too).

However, I for one, do not think that hijab alone (for instance) makes one unattractive, if someone is beautiful both inwardly and/or outwardly, it will shine through no matter what one wears. Women in Hijab, often attract another type of men, those who appreciate a woman of strong character, moral fortitude, who is sincere and confident in her faith.

I am a former Muslim convert and what Steve says is true. Muslim women in the West, want to downgrade Becky’s SMV by normalizing the wearing of hijab. This isn’t because many Muslim women do not have beautiful hair (particularly to a white guy), but because, world over, blonde women, even red-headed women, are more desired than the more common black or brown–which is almost the exclusive color of most of the Muslima world.
You will notice, the inverse proving Steve’s comment, Lauren Booth and many other white female converts (particularly famous ones), being vein and aware of the SMV of blonde (or simply non-black, non-brown hair) brings them, will almost always have a tuft of their hair not covered by the hijab. The socio-psychological reasons for this are three fold: to signal their enduring SMV, one that exists forever, even as they age, or if they are unclothed; to signal they are actually white (NW European); and to add the shape to their overall facial appearance that enhances the European attributes, which are more removed when the hair is completely covered. A shaved head would be the extreme removal of those attributes.
Even NZ PM Jacinda Ardern wore a hijab to appear solemn after the NZ atttack, but made sure she had a large tuft of her light brown hair showing, which also of course, made clear she was still very European in appearance, as it helps shape and refine the standard European face.
The War on Becky, particularly if white men begin pairing off with Muslim women, will drive white women to seek immigration restrictions, if it becomes a real “thing”. Don’t think for a second it is only black women that don’t like seeing “their men” outdating, white women don’t like it either, if only because they like having all the options on the table–like any female group. They pretty much are the only ones that go around saying “yellow fever” about WM/AF.

A man once told me that any woman who cut her hair short when her husband or boyfriend pleaded with her not to was committing a hostile act. He told me this when I related to him that a man at work had replied to me rudely (I thought) when his wife, who worked in the same office, came to work one day sporting a very short and not attractive haircut and I politely commented on it in his (and her) presence. Hijabs fit very well with the current feminist Look At Me/Don't Look At Me paradox. Feminists are beautiful just as they are and you should acknowledge that by admiring them. But looking at them for too long is just like rape, so maybe you shouldn't look so much. A handy way of squaring this circle is by wearing a hijab, which virtue-signals the fact that you are a beautiful feminist who cannot be touched.
This is also feeding my hypothesis that women who become feminists are submissive by nature. It’s a bit of a myth that white women have the best hair. They don’t.
Indian women and Persian women are probably tied for the best hair in the world. Most of these women in their 20s have hair which is curly, long and thick. East Asian women come next. White women are somewhere in the middle of the pack.
By the time most white women hit their 30s, their hair is so frizzled and damaged due to over-usage of chemical products that I barely want to touch it.

I don’t really understand Steve’s argument here. It doesn’t seem like the western media has any interest in getting non Muslim women to wear the hijab, and as far as I’m aware, only Muslim women wear headscarves every day. Otherwise, headscarves are a lot less common among western women now than they were in the mid 20th century.

My wife is of Middle Eastern descent, she has lengthy, strong and healthy hair which she cares for like any woman. She is also a very devout Muslima, who reads Qur’an every day, never misses a prayer, or an opportunity to help others through charity, cares for her family and works a full time job – and she wears Hijab.
For her it is not only about modesty, it is much deeper than that. It is about “Al-Hayah” this is a concept in Islam that refers to modesty, dignity, respect, honor, and much more. Books have been written on the subject. Both men and women are required to dress modestly, for women that includes Hijab. Many women, like my wife, freely make the choice to wear hijab, not only in order to express their faith, and modesty, but also out of a desire to respect themselves, their husband, their family, their faith and co-religionists, and ultimately out of a sincere desire to show respect and honor to the supreme divinity.

I understand your point about many women making themselves unattractive in order to avoid unwanted male attention.
However, I for one, do not think that hijab alone (for instance) makes one unattractive, if someone is beautiful both inwardly and/or outwardly, it will shine through no matter what one wears. Women in Hijab, often attract another type of men, those who appreciate a woman of strong character, moral fortitude, who is sincere and confident in her faith.
They seem like they are under a fair amount of religious and cultural pressure to wear the hijab. It basically brands them as a “good girl” so people don’t suspect them of compromising activities (which they then sometimes engage in). wearing the hijab throws the elders off their guard.

I think the push to include hijab models in fashion ads and magazines is because hijabi women are a very important demographic for a declining retail industry. In some photos I’ve seen, it looks medium brown. Nevertheless, she choose not to cover it, because like all white women, she is used to having it on display as part of her SMV, and if you look at any of the pics, you will see, she’s got a lot of her hair showing.
This isn’t to say some white women are not devote in their conversion and truly cover their hair and get on with life, many do–but I think you will find the norm is to have hair showing. Similarly, Indonesian women may be wearing full hijab, but they often are wearing tight outfits that would be considered too suggestive in any Arab Muslim culture.

You’re missing the point. “Yes, once we factor out all the slow runners on our team, our team is pretty fast”. The National Origins Act of ’24 regulated the flow of all immigration from European countries on the basis of the population from those countries in the US in 1890. I don’t see that this involved any deep study of culture; please explain what you mean here?

It wasn’t intended as a criticism of women, merely a statement of historical fact. Women have over the centuries adopted some pretty startling fashions in clothing and hairstyles, fashions that have often involved a large degree of effort and even discomfort. Women seem to have been happy to endure considerable discomfort in order to make themselves attractive.
No man has ever held a gun to a woman’s head and forced her to wear high heels. Men did not force Victorian women to wear corsets.
There’s nothing wrong with expending time, effort and money to look attractive. Sexual competition among women is fierce. Sexual competition among men is fierce as well but it’s expressed in other ways.
Wanting to look beautiful is fine. Personally I think women wanting to look like sluts is a bad idea, for the individual woman and for society.

Yes, it does matter a great deal. The fact that non-college educated women voted overwhelmingly for Trump shows that the is nothing wrong with women’s political instincts. The problem is that the (((universities))) are under hostile elite occupation. Once you solve that problem there is no need to disenfranchise women, which you’ll never be able to do anyway.

There’s only one solution to that. Start closing down universities. Shut down the humanities faculties. Universities are churning out at least five times as many graduates as society needs. Close down most of law schools. We already have more lawyers than any healthy society needs. The only valid worthwhile function of universities is to provide the very small numbers of engineers, doctors, etc that are actually required.
We don’t need to recapture the universties. We need to close them down.

You assume hostile elite control of universities. There is in fact no reason to assume that. Universities are, by nature, traditional institutions. That is precisely why they were so methodically targeted for the “long march.” Collective identity and pride comes naturally to average people. Intelligent people must be actively taught to love their heritage. That is the traditional role of the universities, and there is no need for tuition to be so high, such that liberal arts education necessarily results in “crippling debt.”

A liberal arts education exists to produce gentlemen (and clerics, but mostly gentlemen). The existence of a gentle class is pretty much antithetical to modern American culture and so the quality of liberal arts education suffers accordingly, and will remain at that level as long as the condition mentioned exists. If you want to try another “long march through the institutions” to produce “your” kind of culture, I tend to think you’ll be disappointed by the results.
