@Lord Jeff SessionsIt was discredited by the Nazis, of course. But R. A. Fisher refused to accept the supposed 'discrediting' of eugenics - AFAIK until he died. Once you demote the pursuit of truth as the objective of science you can discredit anything you don't like - just ask James D. Watson.
@Lord Jeff Sessions"New Republic article says eugenics is “one of the most thoroughly discredited theories in scientific history” but doesn’t say by whom, when or how."
It's a pity it isn't true; I'm tired of spending my whole day gathering meager pathetic little plants and scrubby grasses to eat. If only something could be done about that.
First you were tested by a rival — Russia — and utterly failed to appreciate the corrosive impact on our democracy of your indulgence of Russia’s hacking our election.
Nor does it say how it's supposed to be a "theory", which it most certainly is not.
@Lord Jeff SessionsFarmers, FFA students, and folks running breeding programs for dogs just to name a few all practice eugenics to produce superior breeds of livestock, fruits, veggies and dogs. It's been done for thousands of years.
It works and works well.
Even the Spartans practiced it, they actually produced soldiers that were supposedly well above average to the point that their enemies targeted these men so as to remove their bloodline.
Look this whole freakout over eugenics and classification is the result of the triumph of post-modernism thinking and utopian movements in the West which destroyed the qualitative notion in the world. It turned everything flat so to speak. Differences without a distinction and finally no differences at all. The rant of a Charles Manson was no better or worse than a Shakespearean sonnet.
Ever examine modern art - trash equals art. Sistine Chapel gets replaced by a bunch of rectangular pieces of colored paper on a picture frame that any 5 year old could do.
C.S. Lewis saw it coming a long time ago in his book: The Abolition of Man. Mumford did as well.
@Lord Jeff SessionsEugenics was (were?) the plaything of yesterday's progressives. Someday, tomorrow's progressives will disavow the work of today's just as today's disavow the work of yesterday's.
Ever notice that nobody other than progressives has waged nuclear war?
The Deep State is infested with upper middle class and wealthy traitors who slithered out of the Ivy League universities. The Jews and WASPs and others who populate the Deep State are now attacking President Trump.
The accusations of racism and anti-Semitism that the Deep State uses to maintain their power and silence critics is fading fast. The Ivy League louts who make big bucks, like that Senator Warren, hide their own greed for money behind accusations of racism against people who don’t have much money. Damn scoundrels!
President Trump should begin liquidating the assets of the Ivy League universities.
Start with Harvard. Harvard hates America; that’s the title of a book and the truth.
The Harvard Management Company has about 35 billion dollars. President Trump should tax the hell out of Harvard to build the wall on the border between the United States and Mexico. President Trump knows that the 10 percent returns that the banker rats at the Harvard Management Company get on their pile of loot comes from the Federal Reserve Bank. If it were not for the Fed’s monetary extremism, the Harvard Management Company would be losing money.
The Ivy League universities are trying to kill America, but America will kill them!

On Trump’s Inauguration Day, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow likened Trump’s election to “Hitler’s rise.” Her colleague Chris Matthews described Trump’s inaugural address as “Hitlerian.” Matthews also mocked Trump’s family, likening them to the Russian imperial family, the Romanovs. He’s so fond of this metaphor he now uses it all the time.
K, let’s apply some leftist logic here.
1. The Bolsheviks were leftists.
2. The Bolsheviks murdered the Romanov family.
3. Chris Matthews is a leftist.
4. Chris Matthews refers to the Trump family as “the Romanovs.”
5. Chris Matthews is dog-whistling a leftist uprising to murder the Trump family. It’s not even subtle, really.

Even if you can’t follow the (leftist) logic of Chris Matthews’ (leftist) dog-whistle, it’s in extremely poor taste to use the Romanovs as if they’re the bad guys in the story of Russia. Why not compare someone you don’t like to any of the myriad Commie butchers? Oh, right, because they’re leftist. The Bolsheviks aren’t the bad guys for murdering millions of people (leaving Hitler in the dust, btw), because leftist. The Romanovs are the bad guys, for not being leftists who murdered millions of people.
On the other hand, they were able to bring down Flynn through leaks. Spies aren’t sexy like in the movies, I will agree. They’re not supposed to be–James Bond would make a horrible secret agent in real life, everyone will remember him.

“In the last three news conferences, Wolf, all of the questions to the American news media have been handled by conservative press, and I think, Wolf, there’s no other way to describe it but the fix is in,” CNN’s Jim Acosta vented during a post-press conference interview with Wolf Blitzer. “This White House, this president does not want to answer questions, critical questions, about his associates, his aides’ contacts with the Russians during the course of that campaign just as his national security advisor is being run out of this White House on a rail.”
Oh, the fix is in, I see. Yeah, no projection there.
These people are sociopaths.
“Well, it would be nice — it would be nice if the conservative outlets the president is calling on would ask him tough questions,” King lamented. “And instead of actually trying to curry favor with this president, they might do him a favor by letting him answer these questions because until he answers these questions this story is not going to go away.”
ABC’s Matthew Dowd went so far as to claim today that Trump is “shutting down” the First Amendment by not calling on liberal media outlets during these press conferences.
Sorry, what does Big Media have to do with the First Amendment? I don’t remember any right to be called on by the President, in any case. To be in the White House at all, for that matter.
I laughed when I saw that earlier today. Evan McMullin should be exhibit A when the case is made for shutting down the CIA. How is the public interest served by that organization?
Oh the CIA is basically a sinecure for Ivy league grads and legacies.
Remember a couple decades ago there was this raving drunk of a CIA agent stationed in Italy, who had a penchant for being found passed out in a gutter? Well the station chief promoted him to some cube farm in Langley where he spent most of his time sleeping at his desk along with many other "legacies" (men whose fathers served in the CIA). Apparently the CIA is like any other civil service gig, once you're in you can screw off to your hearts content.
Later he married a Colombian woman and started showing up at work driving foreign luxury cars and was found to be living in a mansion. His bosses figured his wife was big in the drug trade and left it at that. However the FBI found out that Mr. Boozer(Aldritch Ames) was a traitor and selling secrets to the Soviets.
The FBI had a terrible time trying to convince the losers at the agency something was wrong with Ames.
Or think back to the Tsarnev brothers, who the Russians repeatedly warned the CIA and they blew them off. No one got fired or even disciplined.
The same applies for 9/11.
Remember that, there is no downside for f**king up at the agency.

Pretty interesting priority debate over CRISPR patents: the two nice-looking white ladies versus the Asian guy.
@Steve SailerYeah, it's interesting among other things because it's the US Patent Office making the decision. While Affirmative Action corrupts virtually every other institution and its decision making, and of course prize granting organizations, the rules that apply to granting a patent are generally pretty definite and hard to get around. Certainly the story told by the Asian guys at Broad is quite clear both on the point of independent invention and on the point of important and non-obvious improvement of what was described in the patent application of the woman from Berkeley. If the Patent Office granted the Asian guys the patent after an interference was filed, I'd expect that they had good evidence to back up their assertions.I may be speaking from ignorance, but I also have the strong impression that the two women who discovered CRISPR -- presumably independently -- seem not to have followed up their discovery with much more. The guys at Broad have introduced a huge number of improvements.Replies: @Steve Sailer

@Steve SailerThat which is never spoken of in intersectionality studies class but everyone learns:Minority privilege must never, never, be allowed ahead of sisterhood privilege. Non-naturalized migrants should be granted limited electoral rights, according to a migration policy paper, drafted by an expert panel led by the German government’s commissioner on migration, Aydan Oezoguz.
The 50-page concept proposes a series of reforms aimed at making it easier for migrants from non-EU countries to settle in Germany as well as at giving them access to the German labor market and political system.
The paper says that Germany has to face the new reality of becoming “a country of immigrants,” like the US. It urges people to regard migration as something “normal,” which is an indispensable part of the globalized world.

@Steve SailerWell, of course the two ladies have won any number of awards -- are you kidding? They are an answer to a prayer.
And of course they will get the Nobel -- the only question will be whether the Asian guy will as well. That depends on good evidence that he made his discovery of the use of CRISPR as an editing tool independently -- which I take the decision by the Patent Office implicitly to affirm. @Steve SailerOf course no one ever mentions the stale pale males who first discovered Crispr as an anti-viral defence in bacteria and exploited it to create virus-immune bacterial strains. In their 2007 Science paper, they had already worked out the biology, what the UC and Broad teams later contributed to was to turn it into a general purpose technology for targeted genome editing. In this case though, they were staff scientists at the food producer Danisco, so perhaps the lack of recognition could be academic snobbery.

@Mr. AnonIt's going to be interesting to see how things play out now that Flynn has been brought down by leaks to the press.I think that Trump likely did the right thing in getting rid of Flynn. The single most important thing Trump can do for the long haul is surround himself with people who are unquestionably loyal, trustworthy, and forthright. If Flynn dissembled to the Trump team about his interaction with the Russians, that is a very good reason to let him go. Not only does it eliminate someone less than fully trustworthy, it sends the message to all others that they will be fired without a moment's hesitation if they are caught out in a failure of complete candor. With such a team in place, Trump will be able to do a good job rooting out the leakers -- perhaps even setting traps for them when they do leak, which apparently Trump himself did recently in trying to find out who was revealing his scheduling in advance. In some ways the "Deep State" has already exposed its methods by what it did with Flynn. It will be much easier to fight them knowing what their mode of operation is.

@AndrewRItaly originally, but I grew up bilingual in English. I guess my ear still has trouble with really extreme accents that I don't normally hear. Back when I was in college a prerequisite for a hard science degree was to take enough Russian or German classes to be proficient in one of those languages; I suppose so we could read Physics papers in the original. One day after German class I was having a conversation in the hallway with one of the Physics teaching assistants, who had a down in the holler West Virginia red-neck accent that you would never use in a movie as being over too over the top. I was able to follow him, but the German professor, who was a real German, happened to be overhearing us and he literally asked me "What language was that fellow speaking to you in? I could not understand a thing he said!"Replies: @Reg Cæsar
This is a pretty difficult question. My first guess was “taxonomy”, but I could not be 100% certain without Googling it to make sure there was not some other term that applied only to living things, as I would have thought that taxonomy could also be applied to nonorganic classifications. But maybe I am wrong on that, hence the need to Google.
If the question had been multiple choice, of course it would have been much easier, but as it stands I really doubt whether even 1% of the population could answer correctly.
It was hard for me, and I am a guy who has read more than one of Darwin’s books other than On the Origin of Species. I have even heard of Linnaeus. Could Donald Trump answer this correctly off the top of his head? Maybe yes, maybe no.
Of course, if your class had been studying this subject matter within the last weeks, then this could have been a very simple question.
If the student was presented with the question and didn’t have a clue, “racism” is not a bad try at a desperate three-pointer from the outfield on the buzzer, and could be considered witty. In any case, racial classification is a correct example of taxonomy, and racism could be considered to be a practical application of racial classification.
The letters are well formed, but widely spaced, suggesting that the answer was written rather slowly.
So bottom line, my conclusion is that the student had no idea of the correct answer and this was just a Hail Mary.
If Flynn dissembled to the Trump team about his interaction with the Russians, that is a very good reason to let him go.
More likely that Trump knew all along that Flynn was interacting with the Russkies on his behalf and thought there was nothing wrong with it.
Prior to the deposition of Saddam Hussein, were other factions in Iraq not communicating with regime change enthusiasts in the US? Why shouldn’t the Russians do the same thing?
It seems very unlikely that Flynn is such a workaholic that he was working from home in his role as a volunteer National Security Advisor before he was even appointed and sworn in, so if he was communicating with foreign entities in the pre- and post-election periods, then what was the purpose?
And don’t forget that as National Security Advisor Flynn had supposedly advised Trump that the ban on travel from the Terror Seven nations was an urgent matter of National Security, leading to a panicky implementation of the executive order, or had Trump already overruled him on that?
"In the last three news conferences, Wolf, all of the questions to the American news media have been handled by conservative press, and I think, Wolf, there’s no other way to describe it but the fix is in," CNN's Jim Acosta vented during a post-press conference interview with Wolf Blitzer. "This White House, this president does not want to answer questions, critical questions, about his associates, his aides’ contacts with the Russians during the course of that campaign just as his national security advisor is being run out of this White House on a rail."
Oh, the fix is in, I see. Yeah, no projection there.
These people are sociopaths.
“Well, it would be nice — it would be nice if the conservative outlets the president is calling on would ask him tough questions," King lamented. "And instead of actually trying to curry favor with this president, they might do him a favor by letting him answer these questions because until he answers these questions this story is not going to go away."
ABC's Matthew Dowd went so far as to claim today that Trump is "shutting down" the First Amendment by not calling on liberal media outlets during these press conferences.
Sorry, what does Big Media have to do with the First Amendment? I don't remember any right to be called on by the President, in any case. To be in the White House at all, for that matter.Replies: @Joe Magarac

This is a pretty difficult question. My first guess was "taxonomy", but I could not be 100% certain without Googling it to make sure there was not some other term that applied only to living things, as I would have thought that taxonomy could also be applied to nonorganic classifications. But maybe I am wrong on that, hence the need to Google.
If the question had been multiple choice, of course it would have been much easier, but as it stands I really doubt whether even 1% of the population could answer correctly.
It was hard for me, and I am a guy who has read more than one of Darwin's books other than On the Origin of Species. I have even heard of Linnaeus. Could Donald Trump answer this correctly off the top of his head? Maybe yes, maybe no.

Yeah, it’s interesting among other things because it’s the US Patent Office making the decision.
If the Patent Office granted the Asian guys the patent after an interference was filed, I’d expect that they had good evidence to back up their assertions.
I may be speaking from ignorance, but I also have the strong impression that the two women who discovered CRISPR — presumably independently — seem not to have followed up their discovery with much more. The guys at Broad have introduced a huge number of improvements.
The two ladies have already each won prizes totaling much more than a Nobel: they each got $3 million from a huge new prize funded by Silicon Valley zillionaires.Replies: @candid_observer, @BrokenSymmetry

Who will share in the Nobel for CRISPR: the two ladies plus the head of the Broad team?
The two ladies have already each won prizes totaling much more than a Nobel: they each got $3 million from a huge new prize funded by Silicon Valley zillionaires.
And of course they will get the Nobel -- the only question will be whether the Asian guy will as well. That depends on good evidence that he made his discovery of the use of CRISPR as an editing tool independently -- which I take the decision by the Patent Office implicitly to affirm. Given that he also seems to have greatly extended its application and effectiveness -- far beyond anything demonstrated by the ladies -- it seems pretty hard to see how he could be denied the Nobel.
And God only knows how much he and others at Broad will be able to push the technology. They've put together a really brilliant bunch at Broad -- I don't think there's any other center that is really on the same level.

McMullin seems to be waging a one man campaign against Trump. Then again, perhaps it isn’t a one man campaign. Who is backing him? What does this weasel do for a living anyway? What are the odds that McMuffin is the conduit for some of this leaked intelligence information?
The public is not served by them.
Oh the CIA is basically a sinecure for Ivy league grads and legacies.
Remember a couple decades ago there was this raving drunk of a CIA agent stationed in Italy, who had a penchant for being found passed out in a gutter? Well the station chief promoted him to some cube farm in Langley where he spent most of his time sleeping at his desk along with many other “legacies” (men whose fathers served in the CIA). Apparently the CIA is like any other civil service gig, once you’re in you can screw off to your hearts content.

It’s going to be interesting to see how things play out now that Flynn has been brought down by leaks to the press.
I think that Trump likely did the right thing in getting rid of Flynn. The single most important thing Trump can do for the long haul is surround himself with people who are unquestionably loyal, trustworthy, and forthright. If Flynn dissembled to the Trump team about his interaction with the Russians, that is a very good reason to let him go. Not only does it eliminate someone less than fully trustworthy, it sends the message to all others that they will be fired without a moment’s hesitation if they are caught out in a failure of complete candor.
With such a team in place, Trump will be able to do a good job rooting out the leakers — perhaps even setting traps for them when they do leak, which apparently Trump himself did recently in trying to find out who was revealing his scheduling in advance. In some ways the “Deep State” has already exposed its methods by what it did with Flynn. It will be much easier to fight them knowing what their mode of operation is.

Of course no one ever mentions the stale pale males who first discovered Crispr as an anti-viral defence in bacteria and exploited it to create virus-immune bacterial strains.
On the other hand, they were able to bring down Flynn through leaks. Spies aren't sexy like in the movies, I will agree. They're not supposed to be--James Bond would make a horrible secret agent in real life, everyone will remember him.Replies: @Anonymous, @Pericles
Snitches get stitches, secret agents.
Hard to see it as much of anything being being a real a*hole--proving to folks you're a real a*hole--as the brother had been out of the country for years and couldn't have been relevant as any sort of counter faction within the party.Replies: @Pericles

I don’t disagree with anything he says, but the idea of anyone involved with the CIA trying to lecture anyone about Rights and Integrity is simply too absurd for words. McMuffin simply is in no position to moralize.
What country you from?

They think “freedom of the press” means the constitution explicitly protects their bosses’ business model.
Excellent!
Exactly. In the same way, “Fascist” is the pejorative used to attack or demonize someone while “Communist” never is.
Buncha colleges did that in the 70s too didn’t they? I was running from algebra back then and come to find out, there was no math or science requirement at the local U. But that didn’t last long and it came back when I finally returned with my math problems handled. I think maybe Brown never did reinstate general ed requirements.
Just think of all the Boomers running things now, who never dealt with anything really hard in school.
The people on Capitol Hill, especially celebrity types like Frankin, Bono, Pelosi, really, all the women up there, have never dealt with anything serious in their lives. Life on Capitol Hill is peachy, you don't need to be terribly bright to sit there. You sit there, they all kiss your ass, you stack cash, collect a tidy check, benefits, an easy pension and then play revolving-door-roulette to further deepen your pockets. Plenty of women to sleep with for the dullard men, every convenience for the vanity of the women. The few bright bulbs may be on-staff, but I never met a one of them any brighter than I and I ain't that bright, but at least I know it.
Breathtaking are the morons that think they're bright because in Washington, no one dares tell you. I wonder at their questions most recently of our appointees, they are of a "feeeeelings" variety rather than of substance, our rulers and most that make themselves known in Academia are shallow and dull. Make no mistake, measure the IQ of our business leaders with the collective IQ of our academia and ruling classes in Washington, it would be a Mensa-to-Moron comparison.
It’s misogynist to even question women!
Actually, the kid may be doomed. His intention may not be PC but HBD.
He seems to be using the term ‘scientifically’ than morally.
After all, there is no mention of supremacism or any such.
Also, he applied the term to living organisms, not just humans. So, it applies to dogs and bears as well.
He should have spelled it as ‘race-ism’ though.
Italy originally, but I grew up bilingual in English. I guess my ear still has trouble with really extreme accents that I don’t normally hear. I was able to follow him, but the German professor, who was a real German, happened to be overhearing us and he literally asked me “What language was that fellow speaking to you in? I could not understand a thing he said!”
Eugenics was (were?) the plaything of yesterday’s progressives. Someday, tomorrow’s progressives will disavow the work of today’s just as today’s disavow the work of yesterday’s.
Ever notice that nobody other than progressives has waged nuclear war?
Ha! They ditched language requirements generations ago. It was “irrelevant” to the left, and a “waste of time and money” to the right. Bipartisanship! Just like letting looneys out of the bin.
For some reason, many of today’s children’s shows feature one character with such an accent, no matter how inappropriate to the setting, eg, SpongeBob (Sandy the squirrel sow); Wow!Wow!Wubbzy! (Widget the lady mechanic); Octonauts (Tweak Bunny the lady engineer); Dinosaur Train (Mr Conductor)
“Affirmative accent”? Note that most of these crackers-with-hillbilly-twangs are female, and all of them smart.

Yeah, I didn’t like Algebra and Geometry much myself, but no grade, no diploma and damned few of my teachers were concerned with my likes back then, or anyone else’s. There were things you were going to KNOW before you hit the big, bad world and that was that. Today, not so much, not even a little. Deep into working life is a Hell of a time to have to learn it. Thank God Engineering, as a profession, holds true. But the people running REAL things are highly educated.
