Well the station chief promoted him to some cube farm in Langley where he spent most of his time sleeping at his desk along with many other "legacies" (men whose fathers served in the CIA). Apparently the CIA is like any other civil service gig, once you're in you can screw off to your hearts content.
Later he married a Colombian woman and started showing up at work driving foreign luxury cars and was found to be living in a mansion. His bosses figured his wife was big in the drug trade and left it at that. However the FBI found out that Mr. Boozer(Aldritch Ames) was a traitor and selling secrets to the Soviets.
The FBI had a terrible time trying to convince the losers at the agency something was wrong with Ames.
Or think back to the Tsarnev brothers, who the Russians repeatedly warned the CIA and they blew them off. No one got fired or even disciplined.
The same applies for 9/11.

Yeah, it’s interesting among other things because it’s the US Patent Office making the decision.
While Affirmative Action corrupts virtually every other institution and its decision making, and of course prize granting organizations, the rules that apply to granting a patent are generally pretty definite and hard to get around. Certainly the story told by the Asian guys at Broad is quite clear both on the point of independent invention and on the point of important and non-obvious improvement of what was described in the patent application of the woman from Berkeley. If the Patent Office granted the Asian guys the patent after an interference was filed, I’d expect that they had good evidence to back up their assertions.
I may be speaking from ignorance, but I also have the strong impression that the two women who discovered CRISPR — presumably independently — seem not to have followed up their discovery with much more. The guys at Broad have introduced a huge number of improvements.

That depends on good evidence that he made his discovery of the use of CRISPR as an editing tool independently -- which I take the decision by the Patent Office implicitly to affirm. Given that he also seems to have greatly extended its application and effectiveness -- far beyond anything demonstrated by the ladies -- it seems pretty hard to see how he could be denied the Nobel.
And God only knows how much he and others at Broad will be able to push the technology. They've put together a really brilliant bunch at Broad -- I don't think there's any other center that is really on the same level.

I think that Trump likely did the right thing in getting rid of Flynn. The single most important thing Trump can do for the long haul is surround himself with people who are unquestionably loyal, trustworthy, and forthright. If Flynn dissembled to the Trump team about his interaction with the Russians, that is a very good reason to let him go. Not only does it eliminate someone less than fully trustworthy, it sends the message to all others that they will be fired without a moment’s hesitation if they are caught out in a failure of complete candor.
With such a team in place, Trump will be able to do a good job rooting out the leakers — perhaps even setting traps for them when they do leak, which apparently Trump himself did recently in trying to find out who was revealing his scheduling in advance. In some ways the “Deep State” has already exposed its methods by what it did with Flynn. It will be much easier to fight them knowing what their mode of operation is.

Of course no one ever mentions the stale pale males who first discovered Crispr as an anti-viral defence in bacteria and exploited it to create virus-immune bacterial strains. In their 2007 Science paper, they had already worked out the biology, what the UC and Broad teams later contributed to was to turn it into a general purpose technology for targeted genome editing. In this case though, they were staff scientists at the food producer Danisco, so perhaps the lack of recognition could be academic snobbery.

I don’t disagree with anything he says, but the idea of anyone involved with the CIA trying to lecture anyone about Rights and Integrity is simply too absurd for words. McMuffin simply is in no position to moralize.

This is a pretty difficult question. My first guess was “taxonomy”, but I could not be 100% certain without Googling it to make sure there was not some other term that applied only to living things, as I would have thought that taxonomy could also be applied to nonorganic classifications. But maybe I am wrong on that, hence the need to Google.
If the question had been multiple choice, of course it would have been much easier, but as it stands I really doubt whether even 1% of the population could answer correctly.
It was hard for me, and I am a guy who has read more than one of Darwin’s books other than On the Origin of Species. I have even heard of Linnaeus. Could Donald Trump answer this correctly off the top of his head? Maybe yes, maybe no.
Of course, if your class had been studying this subject matter within the last weeks, then this could have been a very simple question.
If the student was presented with the question and didn’t have a clue, “racism” is not a bad try at a desperate three-pointer from the outfield on the buzzer, and could be considered witty. In any case, racial classification is a correct example of taxonomy, and racism could be considered to be a practical application of racial classification.
The letters are well formed, but widely spaced, suggesting that the answer was written rather slowly.
So bottom line, my conclusion is that the student had no idea of the correct answer and this was just a Hail Mary.

More likely that Trump knew all along that Flynn was interacting with the Russkies on his behalf and thought there was nothing wrong with it.
Prior to the deposition of Saddam Hussein, were other factions in Iraq not communicating with regime change enthusiasts in the US? Why shouldn’t the Russians do the same thing?
It seems very unlikely that Flynn is such a workaholic that he was working from home in his role as a volunteer National Security Advisor before he was even appointed and sworn in, so if he was communicating with foreign entities in the pre- and post-election periods, then what was the purpose?
And don’t forget that as National Security Advisor Flynn had supposedly advised Trump that the ban on travel from the Terror Seven nations was an urgent matter of National Security, leading to a panicky implementation of the executive order, or had Trump already overruled him on that?

Buncha colleges did that in the 70s too didn’t they? I was running from algebra back then and come to find out, there was no math or science requirement at the local U. But that didn’t last long and it came back when I finally returned with my math problems handled. I think maybe Brown never did reinstate general ed requirements.
Just think of all the Boomers running things now, who never dealt with anything really hard in school.
The people on Capitol Hill, especially celebrity types like Frankin, Bono, Pelosi, really, all the women up there, have never dealt with anything serious in their lives. Life on Capitol Hill is peachy, you don't need to be terribly bright to sit there. Italy originally, but I grew up bilingual in English. I guess my ear still has trouble with really extreme accents that I don’t normally hear. Back when I was in college a prerequisite for a hard science degree was to take enough Russian or German classes to be proficient in one of those languages; I suppose so we could read Physics papers in the original. One day after German class I was having a conversation in the hallway with one of the Physics teaching assistants, who had a down in the holler West Virginia red-neck accent that you would never use in a movie as being over too over the top. I was able to follow him, but the German professor, who was a real German, happened to be overhearing us and he literally asked me “What language was that fellow speaking to you in? I could not understand a thing he said!”

Yeah, I didn’t like Algebra and Geometry much myself, but no grade, no diploma and damned few of my teachers were concerned with my likes back then, or anyone else’s. There were things you were going to KNOW before you hit the big, bad world and that was that. Today, not so much, not even a little. Deep into working life is a Hell of a time to have to learn it. Thank God Engineering, as a profession, holds true. But the people running REAL things are highly educated.
The people on Capitol Hill, especially celebrity types like Frankin, Bono, Pelosi, really, all the women up there, have never dealt with anything serious in their lives. Life on Capitol Hill is peachy, you don’t need to be terribly bright to sit there. You sit there, they all kiss your ass, you stack cash, collect a tidy check, benefits, an easy pension and then play revolving-door-roulette to further deepen your pockets. Plenty of women to sleep with for the dullard men, every convenience for the vanity of the women. The few bright bulbs may be on-staff, but I never met a one of them any brighter than I and I ain’t that bright, but at least I know it.
Breathtaking are the morons that think they’re bright because in Washington, no one dares tell you. I wonder at their questions most recently of our appointees, they are of a “feeeeelings” variety rather than of substance, our rulers and most that make themselves known in Academia are shallow and dull. Make no mistake, measure the IQ of our business leaders with the collective IQ of our academia and ruling classes in Washington, it would be a Mensa-to-Moron comparison.

If the question had been multiple choice, of course it would have been much easier, but as it stands I really doubt whether even 1% of the population could answer correctly.
It was hard for me, and I am a guy who has read more than one of Darwin's books other than On the Origin of Species. I have even heard of Linnaeus. Could Donald Trump answer this correctly off the top of his head? Maybe yes, maybe no.
Of course, if your class had been studying this subject matter within the last weeks, then this could have been a very simple question.
If the student was presented with the question and didn't have a clue, "racism" is not a bad try at a desperate three-pointer from the outfield on the buzzer, and could be considered witty. In any case, racial classification is a correct example of taxonomy, and racism could be considered to be a practical application of racial classification.
The letters are well formed, but widely spaced, suggesting that the answer was written rather slowly.
