From the New York Times:

Women’s March on Washington Opens Contentious Dialogues About Race
By FARAH STOCKMAN JAN. 9, 2017

Many thousands of women are expected to converge on the nation’s capital for the Women’s March on Washington the day after Donald J. Trump’s inauguration. Jennifer Willis no longer plans to be one of them.

Ms. Willis, a 50-year-old wedding minister from South Carolina, had looked forward to taking her daughters to the march. Then she read a post on the Facebook page for the march that made her feel unwelcome because she is white.

The post, written by a black activist from Brooklyn who is a march volunteer, advised “white allies” to listen more and talk less. It also chided those who, it said, were only now waking up to racism because of the election.

“You don’t just get to join because now you’re scared, too,” read the post. “I was born scared.”

Stung by the tone, Ms. Willis canceled her trip.

“This is a women’s march,” she said. “We’re supposed to be allies in equal pay, marriage, adoption. Why is it now about, ‘White women don’t understand black women’?”

If all goes as planned, the Jan. 21 march will be a momentous display of unity in protest of a president whose treatment of women came to dominate the campaign’s final weeks.

To be precise, came to dominate the losing candidate’s failed strategy.

But long before the first buses roll to Washington and sister demonstrations take place in other cities, contentious conversations about race have erupted nearly every day among marchers, exhilarating some and alienating others.

In Tennessee, emotions ran high when organizers changed the name of the local march from “Women’s March on Washington-Nashville” to “Power Together Tennessee, in solidarity with Women’s March on Washington.” While many applauded the name change, which was meant to signal the start of a new social justice movement in Nashville, some complained that the event had turned from a march for all women into a march for black women.

In Louisiana, the first state coordinator gave up her volunteer role in part because there were no minority women in leadership positions at that time.

“I got a lot of flak locally when I stepped down, from white women who said that I’m alienating a lot of white women,” said Candice Huber, a bookstore owner in New Orleans, who is white. “They said, ‘Why do you have to be so divisive?’”

In some ways, the discord is by design. Even as they are working to ensure a smooth and unified march next week, the national organizers said they made a deliberate decision to highlight the plight of minority and undocumented immigrant women and provoke uncomfortable discussions about race.

“This was an opportunity to take the conversation to the deep places,” said Linda Sarsour, a Muslim who heads the Arab American Association of New York and is one of four co-chairwomen of the national march. “Sometimes you are going to upset people.”

The post that offended Ms. Willis was part of that effort. So was the quotation posted on the march’s Facebook page from Bell Hooks, the black feminist, about forging a stronger sisterhood by “confronting the ways women — through sex, class and race — dominated and exploited other women.”

In response, a New Jersey woman wrote: “I’m starting to feel not very welcome in this endeavor.”

A debate then ensued about whether white women were just now experiencing what minority women experience daily, or were having a hard time yielding control. A young white woman from Baltimore wrote with bitterness that white women who might have been victims of rape and abuse were being “asked to check their privilege,” a catchphrase that refers to people acknowledging their advantages, but which even some liberal women find unduly confrontational.

No one involved with the march fears that the rancor will dampen turnout; even many of those who expressed dismay at the tone of the discussion said they still intended to join what is sure to be the largest demonstration yet against the Trump presidency.

“I will march,” one wrote on the march’s Facebook page, “Hoping that someday soon a sense of unity will occur before it’s too late.”

But these debates over race also reflect deeper questions about the future of progressivism in the age of Trump. Should the march highlight what divides women, or what unites them? Is there room for women who have never heard of “white privilege”?

And at a time when a presidential candidate ran against political correctness and won — with half of white female voters supporting him — is this the time to tone down talk about race or to double down?

“If your short-term goal is to get as many people as possible at the march, maybe you don’t want to alienate people,” said Anne Valk, the author of “Radical Sisters,” a book about racial and class differences in the women’s movement. “But if your longer-term goal is to use the march as a catalyst for progressive social and political change, then that has to include thinking about race and class privilege.”

The discord also reflects the variety of women’s rights and liberal causes being represented at the march, as well as a generational divide.

Many older white women spent their lives fighting for rights like workplace protections that younger women now take for granted. Many young activists have spent years protesting police tactics and criminal justice policies — issues they feel too many white liberals have ignored.

“Yes, equal pay is an issue,” Ms. Sarsour said. “But look at the ratio of what white women get paid versus black women and Latina women.”

For too long, the march organizers said, the women’s rights movement focused on issues that were important to well-off white women, such as the ability to work outside the home and attain the same high-powered positions that men do. But minority women, they said, have had different priorities. Black women who have worked their whole lives as maids might care more about the minimum wage or police brutality than about seeing a woman in the White House.

How many of those are left? Seriously, in most places I’ve lived, Hispanics had completely displaced blacks as workers inside houses or back yards.

Undocumented immigrant women might care about abortion rights, they said, but not nearly as much as they worry about being deported.

Black women, like the late Barbara Jordan, might care about blacks getting back jobs taken from them by illegal aliens, but that just doesn’t come up much.

This brand of feminism — frequently referred to as “intersectionality” — asks white women to acknowledge that they have had it easier. It speaks candidly about the history of racism, even within the feminist movement itself. The organizers of the 1913 suffrage march on Washington asked black women to march at the back of the parade. …

But the tone of the discussion, particularly online, can become so raw that some would-be marchers feel they are no longer welcome.

Ms. Willis, the South Carolina wedding minister, had been looking forward to the salve of rallying with people who share her values, a rarity in her home state, where she said she had been insulted and shouted at for marrying gay couples.

But then she read a post by ShiShi Rose, a 27-year-old blogger from Brooklyn.

“Now is the time for you to be listening more, talking less,” Ms. Rose wrote. “You should be reading our books and understanding the roots of racism and white supremacy. Listening to our speeches. You should be drowning yourselves in our poetry.”

It rubbed Ms. Willis the wrong way.

“How do you know that I’m not reading black poetry?” she asked in an interview. Ms. Willis says that she understands being born white gives her advantages, and that she is always open to learning more about the struggles of others.

But, she said, “The last thing that is going to make me endeared to you, to know you and love you more, is if you are sitting there wagging your finger at me.”

Ms. Rose said in an interview that the intention of the post was not to weed people out but rather to make them understand that they had a lot of learning to do.

“I needed them to understand that they don’t just get to join the march and not check their privilege constantly,” she said.

That phrase — check your privilege — exasperates Ms. Willis. She asked a reporter: “Can you please tell me what that means?”

That would be the block that sends their coalition crumbling, at least nationally. Pulling 5% or so more white ladies, especially young ones, would hurt national democratic candidates in a way that would be hard to compensate for with more minority turnout (as documented in this blog).

Women need to be able to join a strong and secure group. That number is so low--actually--because White men have abdicated their responsibility for maintaining collective strength. That 53% will not have a meaningful behind it commitment, nor will it grow, until White men man up.

Continue to alienate their white "allies" - You mean, like the below:

From a Black Lives Matter organizer / leader (Ashleigh Shackelford) “For White People Who Want to Attend #BlackLivesMatter Protests”

    http://wearyourvoicemag.com/identities/race/white-people-blacklivesmatter-protests

Nothing you have is yours. Let me be clear: Nothing you have is yours. Also, Let me be see through: Reparations are not donations, because we are not your charity, tax write off, or good deed for the day. You are living off of stolen resources, stolen land, exploited labor, appropriated culture and the murder of our people. Nothing you have is yours.

We need housing, transportation, food, clothes, free space for meetings and work space; we need laptops, cell phones, encrypted systems for communication, solar power and LAND. Stop playing. Y’all really thought pulling up to the protest in your Hyundai was gonna be enough? Nah. You have to give us everything we need and more, because even if it means you go without — it doesn’t matter because that’s how we been living for 400+ years. Reparations will never be negotiable.

If you really believe that #BlackLivesMatter, ask yourself if you’re willing to die for us and to die to dismantle this system. Are you willing to give up everything you have to make sure Black people can survive, thrive and be safe?

Every year in London (and elsewhere for all I know) there's a 26-mile all-night sponsored walk in aid of breast cancer research, the Moonwalk (if you want to see lots of young and not so young (exhibitionist) ladies in pink bras, it's the place to be - I'd have thought it was dangerous, but there are a lot of them).

The attendees are 99.9% white, despite London's demographics. Asian ladies aren't going to walk the streets in their underwear, and I would bet there are more white men than black women walking.

I have a really bad feeling about this whole endeavor, as Steve does. The buzz has died for this march on my FB page. I mean January (also Gay Ski Week in Aspen at this time - so much funner!), is tough to march with women who you don't hang-out with; who you have no connection with? If this was in Finland/Iceland/Canada there might be "vodka stations" to stay warm, and Nordics can connect with vodka; but haha, never here, in DC and not at a resort in winter.

Any coalition and cause breaks down on racial line. This is played every time. Slavery was the best investment TPTB ever made. The gift that keeps on giving. True. And demographic trends still favor the Democrats.

In the short- and possibly medium-term. Long-term points to a fundamental change in the country's politics.

The country changed fundamentally after the first big wave of Central/Eastern/Southern European immigration from 1880-1920, but that was part of a big increase in European and founding stock American populations anyway. We were inevitably headed toward a more national-level political culture away from the state-level regional culture pre-Civil War. Think of small-town and county-level politics as an echo of that America.

This new wave of largely non-European immigration will change the governing relationship between the citizen and the State that is hard to predict. Some of the new arrivals have no problem culturally with a strong, authoritarian central government (Russians, Chinese, Latins, Hindus), but others not as much (tribal Middle Easterners).

This is breaking out all over. OUT: Barbara Boxer, Hillary, Harry Reid (and even if they don’t know it yet, Liawatha/Fauxcahontas Elizabeth Warren and Chuck Schumer). IN: Keith Ellison X, Maxine Waters, Genius T. Coates, and THEY.

Not exactly a genius assemblage. And this group will surely alienate their Nice White Lady allies just for the feelz. The ability to dominate. And that is what Democratic Politics offer at its core — the ability of the various groups to dominate Whites. That used to be just White men, see how the Nice White Ladies like say, Megyn Kelly reflexively side with non-White activists and despise Donald Trump. [This alone explains the Cuckservative movement — beta males which is 90% of White men attempting vainly to placate their angry women.]

Now that its White women, eventually even Megyn Kelly will be replaced by say, that actress from “Precious” or some other woman of color who is “thinly challenged.” [F.A.T.]

Opportunity for fun — register as some “person of color” and abuse Nice White Ladies for not checking their privilege and opening IRAs (Individual Reparation Accounts to pay Black people for the original sin of being born White. Or something.)

I was waiting for your take on this Whiskey. It is possible that being on the receiving end of "people of color," and other members of the coalition of the fringes' criticism could cause White women to overcome their dislike of beta males and actually side with them electorally?

    , @Neoconned
    @Whiskey

Whiskey I actually asked blacks online once about reparations & what would be an acceptable amount. I pulled a number from my ass.....30k$ i think it was.....a 1-time payment. The Federal Reserve, the central bank would print it up and that was it. That would satisfy and AND ALL CLAIMS forever.

Basically they take the money they sign a contract with the govt to never seek another dime.

To my surprise a few said they didn't want the money. Others said and I quote "nuh uh, you're on a pay what we want when we demand it."

Instead of "here's the money, take it and fuck off" it's more about submission and dominance.

    There's no debate here

These people don'twant reparaty, they want power.

Sadly I don't think there's much hope for a peacefy co existence.

What we have now is as good as it gets.

    @Whiskey

Figured that this would be right up your alley. I'll give you credit for pointing out the Nice White Lady problem long before any of the rest of us thought about it.

However, the next big question relates to the group that you seem loathe to even acknowledge, much less criticize: Jews. Are blacks and THEY stupid enough or just unaware enough to start pushing back against liberal (most) Jews? I suppose in one sense they already are. I mean, if you start demanding positions of power in the Democratic Party, you're going to force out a number of Jews due to their over representation at the top.

At what point do Jews, like Nice White Ladies, realize that they're not going to get a Victim Pass from blacks and THEM, that blacks and Hispanics and the others will consider Jews as whites regardless of the clever arguments that they aren't?

The Dems would like to keep Nice White Ladies, but the Dems NEED Jewish money, organization and influence. Lose the Jews and it's over for the Dems. At what point do Jews start fearing real blacks and Hispanics more than mystical Nazis?

I'm doubtful about that. The economy as a whole prospered between 1945 - 1975. Presumably blacks did to a large extent as well. And during that whole time they became a more nearly monolithic Democratic voting block. Any conservative party is essentially going to be a white party.

Thing is, women--at least heterosexual women--aren't actually in competition with men. If a woman is married to a man, then what does it matter if he makes $1 and she makes 50 cents, or if they both make 75 cents? The net income coming into the household is the same either way. Donald Trump is not a real threat to these women; worst case scenario, their sons die in war in Syria. (And if they thought their sons' lives were actually on the line, they wouldn't bullshit around with this race nonsense.)

Rather, women compete primarily with other women--for the most valuable resource, men (or men's incomes.) Women can make friends with other women or work together to advance actual common interests, but all of these women (illegal immigrants excepted) actually have more to gain by competing against each other than by competing against Trump. They can conquer each other; they can't conquer Trump.

The whole demanding obsequious deference from Whites thing really undermines the whole guilt about Whites who demanded deference from Blacks 100 years ago thing. If you want to effect change, "heal the world," etc., fine. If you want payback, fine. But I don't think you get to have both.

Of course, Whites who have spines, capacity for independent thought, etc., tend not to be leftist.

That's a really, really excellent question!

The short answer is, simply, that the common thread between Falangists, nationalists, libertarians and anarcho-capitalists is opposition to global socialism and globalist racial egalitarianism, which is really a form of communism. And although contemporary "soft communism" doesn't (yet) have Soviet-style gulags, it is plenty totalitarian when it comes to policing speech, disseminating propaganda, and enforcing the "proper" attitudes as a condition of employment and social status.

Libertarians and anarcho-capitalists might have plenty to bitch about under a truly alt-right nationalist government, but since no such thing really exists that's not the issue today. Libertarians can't stand getting global socialist egalitarianism and political correctness and constant hectoring about speech crimes and thought crimes crammed down their throats by the left-wing State any more than cultural/racial nationalists can stand it.

Much of the gender gap is driven by black women. Black women support the Dems almost exclusivity (polls of black women often show 98-2 ratios). Black men are a little bit more ideologically diverse at around 85-15% Dem support. However black women make up close to 2/3 of the black vote.

At any rate whereas white women roughly split their votes 50/50. Once you had black women to the mix presto gender gap that is persistently in Dem favors. If the gender gap is at parity than you know white women are leaning towards the GOP.

    Replies: @tsotha

This could be one of the most important political developments of the next 20 years. While much is rightly made of the white working class being driven away from the Democrats, there could be a lot of cultural and political fallout if and when SWPLs (as distinct from hardcore SJWs) also start to leave.

Already we see the beginnings of people who in a previous era would be natural liberals being pushed out and/or leaving the ideological left and in many cases the Democratic party. Early examples are Dave Rubin and Sam Harris. Look for dissident academics such as Steve Pinker, Jerry Coyne, and Jonathan Haidt to be the next batch of high profile liberal exits from the Left.

For many of these people their strongest connection to liberalism is/was opposition to the religious right. But nowadays some blowhard creationist bumpkin in a trailer park just doesn't seem that threatening when compared against the agents of hardcore Jihad. And with these people feeling literal, explicit hatred in the academy and the mediasphere for being stale, pale, and male, I don't think they're masochistic enough to stick around for the abuse for too long.

Outside of the academy, there are probably a lot of otherwise well-behaved and mild-mannered knowledge economy workers who will be forced to sit through one too many diversity seminars.

I would imagine if this comes to pass - let's say a significant number of relatively affluent, educated, and not very religious whites (and Asians) drifts toward the Republican coalition - the Republicans will become less overtly religious, and maybe less overtly hostile to environmentalism. Upper middle class SWPLs are probably not that ideologically invested in food stamps, Head Start, or even abortion when it comes down to it, but they really don't want their kids being taught creationism in school or seeing oil rigs in National Parks.

for the life of me, I don’t get this march. I have friends who are hell-bent on going to this. Only two know that I voted differently, from them; and because they are decent, they won’t rat me out.

I have a really bad feeling about this whole endeavor, as Steve does. The buzz has died for this march on my FB page. I mean January (also Gay Ski Week in Aspen at this time – so much funner!), is tough to march with women who you don’t hang-out with; who you have no connection with? If this was in Finland/Iceland/Canada there might be “vodka stations” to stay warm, and Nordics can connect with vodka; but haha, never here, in DC and not at a resort in winter.

From what I know of my friends who are gonna go to DC, they are not getting on a bus! They are still too rich for a bus.

As for the altright, what exactly do Falangists, people who want to bring back the Ancien Regime with Catholicism as a state religion (I.e. marine le pen or people who want to bring back the romanovs and the rest of the nrx), and libertarians or anarcho capitalists have in common anyway? I mean has anyone seen the graphic of how diverse and disparate the ideologies of the altright are?

In a previous era you'd be worried about the Dems disappearing as a national party. But today it's institutionally almost impossible for third parties to emerge, and if the two-party duopoly permanently collapses to leave one-party rule then America's pretenses to being a democracy would collapse as well. Trump has never said a word against blacks. (In fact, he did a bit of pandering to them with his Detroit church visit during the campaign.)

And Trump has never said anything against women, either. He only said that if you're a celebrity "they let you grab them by the pussy."

So why are blacks and women upset at Trump? Because both groups know that Trump is immune to politically-correct bullshit and childish whining, and consequently they fear that the free ride on the Federal gravy train might be coming to an end.

True. But for some reason or other, I find this story encouraging.

I was formerly a leftist myself (more from family background than anything else) but after reading around in the aftermath of 9/11 I fairly quickly started to rethink it.

Orwell documented this process well, and it is horrifying, but the only way many people can learn they were wrong is by hitting bottom (that is, reaching contradictions so obvious it is no longer possible to ignore them). The people who are not capable of such learning are doomed to be ground to dust between the gears of political correctness, and I won’t shed many tears for them.

This is awesome, I never ever thought I'd see this -- the non-Whites actively pushing out their major power center, Nice White Ladies.

Its also hilarious to see Nice White Ladies get the treatment that I as a White man get. Its just so funny.

It was a failure of my imagination to see it, too focused on the past and expecting a linear progression rather than a discontinuous function that abruptly breaks. Think the carrying capacity of the arctic for lemmings.

Yes, Black and Latinx activists or what have you are maybe on average just one step above Vesper Lee Flanagan or THEY in the ability to avoid stupidity and venting to keep allies on side.

This is breaking out all over. OUT: Barbara Boxer, Hillary, Harry Reid (and even if they don't know it yet, Liawatha/Fauxcahontas Elizabeth Warren and Chuck Schumer). IN: Keith Ellison X, Maxine Waters, Genius T. Coates, and THEY.

Not exactly a genius assemblage. And this group will surely alienate their Nice White Lady allies just for the feelz. The ability to dominate. And that is what Democratic Politics offer at its core -- the ability of the various groups to dominate Whites. That used to be just White men, see how the Nice White Ladies like say, Megyn Kelly reflexively side with non-White activists and despise Donald Trump. [This alone explains the Cuckservative movement -- beta males which is 90% of White men attempting vainly to placate their angry women.]

Now that its White women, eventually even Megyn Kelly will be replaced by say, that actress from "Precious" or some other woman of color who is "thinly challenged." [F.A.T.]

However, the next big question relates to the group that you seem loathe to even acknowledge, much less criticize: Jews. Are blacks and THEY stupid enough or just unaware enough to start pushing back against liberal (most) Jews? I suppose in one sense they already are. I mean, if you start demanding positions of power in the Democratic Party, you’re going to force out a number of Jews due to their over representation at the top.

At what point do Jews, like Nice White Ladies, realize that they’re not going to get a Victim Pass from blacks and THEM, that blacks and Hispanics and the others will consider Jews as whites regardless of the clever arguments that they aren’t?

The Dems would like to keep Nice White Ladies, but the Dems NEED Jewish money, organization and influence. Lose the Jews and it’s over for the Dems. At what point do Jews start fearing real blacks and Hispanics more than mystical Nazis?

My guess is that the prejudice is very limited to very specific groups who have formed such stereotypes. My wife is mostly French with only slight Irish heritage, so it might have been a Continent mindset.

I suppose if there any reality to the stereotype, though, might come from possibly some correlation of alcoholism? That always seemed to be the bane of her family.

  133. The convoluted language of the left is used to facilitate a convoluted logic, so dissecting these articles is like shooting ducks in a barrel. Still, it’s fun to read.

As to the privilege bingo, “Not a red-head” ? What’s with that?

And speaking of negative qualifiers, I notice they don’t use a “not a ____” approach in any of the other bingo squares because it would illustrate all of the common ways that status is lowered for white people. For example, they say, “standard accent” instead of:

    – not a Southern accent
    – not a Queens or Bronx accent
    – not a Boston accent
    – not a Chicago (Great Lakes) accent (

    )

They say “Christian,” but don’t say:

    – not a Catholic (less debilitating to status than it used to be)
    – not a Southern evangelical (far more debilitating to status than it used to be)
    – not Eastern Orthodox

    They also don’t say:

    – not a farmer
    – not from a town of less than 10,000 people
    – not from Appalachia
    – not a coal miner

    …and so on.

On the whole, the right as a whole doesn’t go in for mass marches and demonstrations. They’re very much a left thing.

This blog isn’t as bad as some. Some do resent Jews, with the stupid triple bracket thing. That seems be as virulent it gets on this site.

I actually suspect its to our strength that we have no focused issues. Unlike, say, the liberal left which could focused down on a single issue such as same-sex marriages and then disband because they've accomplished their goal, the nebulous boundaries mean that the alt-right basically form a steady subgroup that is united more by a hazy set of ideas and common rejection of liberal shibboleths.

On top of it is the actual construction of a rival set of norms, spaces and culture. It looks a much stronger contender for power than say, the Religious Right or the Moral Majority ever could be.

    Replies: @Lagertha

exactly, and I agree. It is better to be a large group of people with wildly different views (like on this blog), who like to throw ideas around, challenge each other, for example, than let “progressives” define who we are. It is fascinating to see Progs cite alt-right but have no idea what it is. The hilarious thing is, not one person I know who is not a Prog, finds the term, “alt-right,” sort of nebulous or just not correct, just not the right label for them. Labels are starting to fail…and I am so happy about that. My point was, the “ we all have time to think now, time to define,” how we really feel about issues since HRC is out.

And, I read Jack’s response, and bag pipes are always cool :). In fact, there could be some international flavor by having music performances/choirs from the many ethnic groups/nationalities in this country. My grandpa sang in a Men’s Choir his entire life…in a kinda’ Freemasons choir.

Not me. I would prefer separate countries for each nationality/race/ethnic group. Doesn't mean I hate other groups; I just prefer my own.

I hate white SJWs, but, in the end, they are family. Black conservatives are not.

Besides, there's regression to the mean. Sooner or later, the children, nieces, nephews and so on of black conservatives will regress to black means in intelligence and violence.

We're all happier living among our own. It's natural, not hateful. I wish blacks well. I just don't want to live with them.

I agree with that. The ideal would be separate countries for each nationality/race/ethnic group, and a separate country for SJWs.

I sure as hell don’t want any SJWs at all in my country. None. The incompatibility between SJWs and normal people is more extreme than the incompatibilities between races. Put SJWs in their own country and build a really really big wall along the border.

That 53% will not have a meaningful behind it commitment, nor will it grow, until White men man up.

It might work the other way round.

I think the undermining of western ethnic/national consciousness was brought about by the media's use of empathy based manipulation (films like "To Kill a Mockingbird" and filtering the news) so I wonder if it wasn't more that white men "manned down" in response to female pressure. If so then if white women finally figure out they've been conned all these years by the media the pressure might reverse.

Replies: @The Only Catholic Unionist, @Frau Katze, @Citizen of a Silly Country, @Captain Tripps

True. And demographic trends still favor the Democrats.

In the short- and possibly medium-term. Long-term points to a fundamental change in the country’s politics.

While I was the child of immigrants, they came in legally after numerous hurdles. They also did not take advantage of the system, and didn't get any benefits from it. Nonetheless, they managed to be successful enough that when I went to college, I couldn't have benefitted from any subsidies.

I also was excluded from any minority programs for some reason, as they strictly defined it as "black, women, Hispanic, etc"; I remember finding it strange because there are fewer Asians than Hispanics, but Hispanics were protected.

Probably the last straw was the fact that my brother with a perfect GPA was intentionally targeted and ultimately destroyed from his career by a "diverse" student association of Vietnamese and black women, for basically no reason, other than that he would have taken a quota spot away from them.

I've had some unpleasant experiences with whites and racism, certainly. I mean, at one point I was pretty annoyed at the "what country are you from" questions and being called "sonny" a lot. But it never went as far as the vehemence that some of the Coalition of the Fringes would inflict.

Some of those "racist" white men were genuinely pleasant and gentle souls - I remember one, a boss, trying to explain to me the importance of being a servant to the Lord even in his management style, and often basically picking up after us because it was the right thing to do, as he felt it. He was a poor fit in technology, a poor fit for this modern world, and ultimately couldn't survive the daily backstabbing of corporate life. But he was, despite anything else, a good person.
