From the New York Times:

Ta-Nehisi Coates’s ‘Visceral’ Take on Being Black in America

By JENNIFER SCHUESSLER JULY 17, 2015

“Between the World and Me,” Ta-Nehisi Coates’s meditation on being a black man in America, has had an almost frictionless glide straight to the heart of the national conversation. …

“Between the World and Me,” written as an open letter to his son, Samori …

And there was a thunderous ovation when he spoke of the bodily fear that lies at the heart of the daily lived experience of racism, and “the mind-trick” people play by saying that the racism isn’t real. …

That conversation, Mr. Coates noted, came not long after he attended an off-the-record meeting between President Obama and liberal opinion journalists. …

In the book, Mr. Coates describes racism in terms of assaults on the free movement of the black body, … like the casual shoving of Samori when he was 4 by a white woman on an Upper West Side escalator.

  1. This is not a made up story for the sake of a comment. It happened yesterday.

This week in a nearby city that is the source of our local news, a white high school boy was murdered by a black teen. The white was being mugged and he resisted. His brother was with him and knew the black. The black teen shot him in the chest with a pistol because he resisted. He died shortly after in the hospital.

So my wife had to have the “Talk” with our little blond 8 year old girl. My wife didn’t mean to have this talk. But the story was there and the kid didn’t understand it and asked the question.

    She asked “What is mugged?”

My wife said, “When someone tries to rob you using physical force or the threat of violence, often involving a weapon.”

She asked, “And the boy that was killed resisted?”

    My wife said, “Yes.”

And this 50 pound blond, blue eyed little girl who lives in a safe small town, practically void of threat because it is white, asked, “If I get mugged should I not resist?”

And my wife answered, “No, especially if it a black person. They often seek humiliation and dominance as the reason for mugging, and if you deny them what they seek, they think so little of you and your white body, that they will kill you.”

This girl needn’t have ever been aware that such possibilities existed, and now she does, and now she has a fear that she never would have had to have if there were no black bodies that present a real threat to her white body, a far greater threat than some woman “shoving” her.

The enormous chasm that separates the negro experience of "racism" from the white experience seems insurmountable. The negro experiences "racism" as noticing he is a negro. Whites (and other races) notice the negro is, unmistakeably, a negro. The negro knows his race is nearly unique in its utter and complete lack of achievement. He knows his racial kin have accomplished nothing on the world stage and he knows that whites will immediately notice he is a negro and associate him with that lack of accomplishment. Thus, the noticing of his race is a humiliation to him. Every white who looks at him humiliates him. Adding to the humiliation is the fact that the negro knows whites deliberately avoid him. He is humiliated when whites look at him and more humiliated when whites move away.

The white experiences "racism" much differently (as your wife explained to your young daughter) in the form of violence both threatened and fulfilled. The epidemic of black on white violence will be felt by every white who has the misfortune of spending time among negroes. One might escape it for a time, but sooner or later he will be directly affected by negro violence. Whites fear negroes because of the very real threat of assault, robbery, rape, torture, and murder.

The negro believes he is victimized by what whites (and others as he sees their response to him mirrors whites) think of him. The white is victimized by the neverending violence inflicted on him by the negro. We have a perfect feedback loop. The negro commits violence on the white because the white has a low opinion of the negro. The white's low opinion of the negro is reinforced by his fear and loathing of the negro's violence.
    , @Carl
    Wow, she understood all that?!

To begin with to actually be mugged is to be physically restrained, e.g., if someone yokes you around your neck and an accomplice extract money or items from your person, it is a Mugging. When someone draws and train a weapon on you demanding money or your personal items it is a 'stick-up', an Armed Robbery period. If they shoot you, it either falls into the criminality of Assualt or Murder depending on the circumstances.

But they couldn't do so while being black. You have to understand that there are different applicant pools for columnists just as there are for seats at top colleges (and firefighter jobs, etc.). Probably 90% of the Asians who are rejected from Ivy League colleges are better qualified than the blacks who do get into these schools but they aren't competing for the same seats - a certain % of the seats have been set aside for blacks and Hispanics. So if you are black you don't have to be among the best qualified applicants (far from it - most of the black applicants, if you switched the ethnicity on their application to Asian, would have ZERO chance of getting in), you just have to be among the best qualified BLACK applicants. This is the very essence of "Affirmative Action" - it is just a smoothly propagandized euphemism for "Lowering the Bar". If there is no lowering of the bar then you don't really have affirmative action.
  3. And there was a thunderous ovation when he spoke of the bodily fear…

    of black youth gangs

    and “the mind-trick” …

of the NYT constantly lying about the vastly disproportionate amount of violent crime committed by black youth gangs including the vast majority of violent racial crime.

  4. Which, of course, did not actually happen.

    • Replies: @Boomstick
Oh, it may have. New Yorkers are known for being rude and pushy, and TNC is known for overwrought prose and blowing minor incidents out of proportion. So maybe some impeccably progressive upper west side dame who voted for Jesse Jackson was in a hurry brushed aside a toddler that was obstructing the pathway. And then TNC, years later, blathers about "black bodies."
  5. Ta-Nehisi Coates was born in 1975, yet you would think he was born in 1925 with his constant ranting about being racially oppressed by White people his entire life. Jim Crow laws were already obsolete by the time he was born. This guy graduated from high school the same year that Bill Clinton was sworn into the oval office. He is from the 1990s MTV/gangsta rap generation yet he talks like someone who graduated from high school the same year that Jackie Robinson entered the MLB.

The deification of (Saint) Martin Luther King Jr. was occurring about when T-N.C was in elementary school. The King holiday was debated and passed in 1983, and first observed in 1986. (T-N.C was 8-11 years old).
  6. In TNC’s world, racial hostility is a one-way street.

It is also interesting how Coates and people like him lament American society treating him and his progeny as though they aren’t full participants in our culture but don’t seem to make the connection to that in the way Coates so often signals he doesn’t want to fully participate in that culture himself – such as through kids being given names like “Samori” that indicate a conscious effort to draw a line between the mainstream and his household, his stated preference for living amongst blacks, and so on.

In the real world, racial hostility is a spaghetti junction.

Coates so often signals he doesn’t want to fully participate in that culture himself

    From Wiki:
Coates grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. His father, William Paul Coates, was a Vietnam War veteran and former Black Panther. His mother, Cheryl, was the breadwinner in the family and his father was a stay-at-home dad who ran Black Classic Press, a small publishing house specializing in African-American studies[4] during Ta-Nehisi's childhood.[5] Ta-Nehisi's father had seven children.[6] Coates says that Ta-Nehisi is an Egyptian name for ancient Nubia.[7]

T-N.C seems to be a strong a Black racialist was his father and likely other relations. Yes, they have not wanted to participate in American culture. But, at the risk of being too radical, why should they? The USA, as everyone knows, is really a product of Northwest European culture and transplanted Northwest Europeans, with others joining in around this core. Blacks have never been at the core, and know it.

Why would a Black racialist want to just sponge off of the USA while endlessly complaining about it? This is puzzling. Why not make their own way in life?

I wonder if T-N.C., in his two decades of writing, has ever called for explicit racial nationalism, in the strict sense of either a new Black nation in North America (as the Communist Party once called for) or some form of focused Back-to-Africa expatriation in the tradition of Liberia or Garvey.
  7. A brutha has an incredible ability to sense malevolent intentions in other people’s minds, black or white. You read news articles about it every day. Some brutha bumps into him in the ghetto, and he knows instantly that it was really a dominance display and starts shooting. Some white boy doesn’t slide over on his seat to make room and he knows instantly it was a racist power play and starts shooting.

Now I’m not saying he always shoots. He may have to “ack nice” (particularly around white folks) and pretend that he doesn’t know what is really going on. But he knows … deep down inside he knows.

Me too. My eyes glaze over with absolute indifference. I don't care about him, what he thinks, says, or does. Somebody shoves his kid -- kids gets shoved by strangers all the time, when they get in the way. It's not unusual. Whites get killed by blacks everyday. On the metro I ride daily, a white guy was stabbed 40 times in broad daylight by a black. Blacks have attacked whites, and shoved them. One very activist, liberal Jewish lady is always getting nearly into fisticuffs with black teens on the metro because they say she shoved them. They are the shovers so much more frequently, that THC is just jiving.

I mean he's a joke. A well paid joke. But then, lots of journalists are.

For crying out loud. This is the extract from The Atlantic about the infamous incident:

Perhaps you remember that time we went to see Howl’s Moving Castle on the Upper West Side. You were almost 5 years old. The theater was crowded, and when we came out we rode a set of escalators down to the ground floor. As we came off, you were moving at the dawdling speed of a small child. A white woman pushed you and said, “Come on!” Many things now happened at once. There was the reaction of any parent when a stranger puts a hand on the body of their child. And there was my own insecurity in my ability to protect your black body. And more: There was my sense that this woman was pulling rank. I knew, for instance, that she would not have pushed a black child out on my part of Flatbush, because she would be afraid there and would sense, if not know, that there would be a penalty for such an action. But I was not out on my part of Flatbush. And I was not in West Baltimore. I forgot all of that. I was only aware that someone had invoked their right over the body of my son. I turned and spoke to this woman, and my words were hot with all of the moment and all of my history. She shrank back, shocked. A white man standing nearby spoke up in her defense. I experienced this as his attempt to rescue the damsel from the beast. He had made no such attempt on behalf of my son. And he was now supported by other white people in the assembling crowd. The man came closer. He grew louder. I pushed him away. He said, “I could have you arrested!” I did not care. I told him this, and the desire to do much more was hot in my throat. This desire was only controllable because I remembered someone standing off to the side there, bearing witness to more fury than he had ever seen from me—you.

I have no problems calling utter bullshit on this false memory. At first I thought it was a total lie, but on second thought I think there are grains of truth in it, exaggerated, adding up to a fallacious representation of what actually happened.

It was a crowded theater and the woman bumped into the small child by accident and in embarassment said something. The reference to elevators makes me think that this was the Sony Theater on 67th Street, which has elevators. It’s a multiplex and can get very crowded indeed. His description of the Klanoid nature of the hostile crowd that surrounded them is the purest bullshit. The clientele is very diverse and I remember being surprised at how many blacks there are – it’s not a black neighborhood. The idea that any White Knight would have come to the defense of an aggrieved white woman in that theater, that neighborhood, is total fiction.

I’ve given up on the NY Times completely. I used to search through it for decent articles, which they did have, but no longer.

Perhaps Samori remembers? How could he forget? Ta-Nehesi's son's black body was very nearly turned into strange fruit before his very eyes! The horror, the horror! Ta-Nehesi is probably still in therapy trying to recover from the assault on his son's black body that he, the father, was unable to prevent or avenge. This memory will sear him for as long as he lives. And beyond.

Every Confederate statue that is torn down should be replaced by a memorial to this outrage, a testament to the deep hatred and incessant violence of whites to which black bodies are subjected in crowded elevators!
    , @Alden
The story does sound ridiculous unless you consider another possibility.

In the video posted Elaine is able to throw some powerful shoves because she's squared up with someone of equal or greater height. Think about how you'd shove a 4 year old. It would involve bending or crouching to get to their center of gravity, right? Sure, you could kind of push their head, but not very effectually. And I find it hard to believe that some random person in a theater is so mad about this little kid that they'd bend over to attack.

I can only conclude that TNC is leaving out a remarkable detail: the woman in question was an abrasive midget! She probably took exception to his son staring at her. I'd also bet the man who came to her aid was dressed as a clown and they were part of the same traveling circus troupe.

Either that or it's all bullshit.
    , @candid_observer
Anyone reading this account and who has ever ridden an escalator in a crowd can easily understand what most likely happened here: The escalator was crowded at the bottom, and the woman behind the boy needed to get off, quickly, because of people behind her, and so she felt the need to push the boy ahead to prevent people from colliding into each other at the bottom, falling down, and God only knows what.

But to this cretin Ta NaSei, it's all about the black body of his oblivious kid rather than the bodies of the people behind him. God forbid that TNC should care about anyone other than his own.
    , @ben tillman

The reference to elevators makes me think that this was the Sony Theater on 67th Street, which has elevators.

    Escalators.
    , @Hersh
If it was crowded, Coates was lucky people didn't trip over his son. Kid could really get hurt.

Imagine driving on, say the Belt Pkwy in eastern Queens near Kennedy Airport and a black woman fender bendering you and getting off at the next exit somewhere in Jamaica. You'd be crazy to follow her and try to get her license to make a report. They'd come out of the woodwork as she screamed that you were "trying to rape her." Happened to someone I know.

    , @Big Bill
If you are dawdling at the bottom of a crowded escalator, you are a hazard. Pick your kid up, walk briskly away, and set them down at least ten feet away from the bottom of the escalator.

Hillbilly visitors like Coates and their sprogs need to get a guidebook on living in New York before they are permitted to come visit.

He flips from happy-go-lucky to stone face just as Jenner makes her way to the stage to accept the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage. As the audience erupts with applause, the camera pans over to Favre as he claps slowly before rubbing his hands together.

You know, I've always been a little skeptical about the story about Stalin and applause. I still am. But I have no skepticism left for our social justice betters.

"Actually, lots of liberals believe this, and it is one the big reasons behind the popularity of BDS."

I think the main reason for BDS is political than racial.

The Right has taken over Israeli politics, and in America it is the GOP that is howling endlessly about Israel.

So, many Libs came to think Israel = GOP.

And this is one reason why Neocons want to ban the Confed flag. With the most vociferous supporters of Israel being in the Christian South, more and more people are gonna think White South = Israel Politics. Neocons may want the support of White Cons in the South but they don't want the symbolic association.

Also, Netanyahu's bad behavior toward Obama made Israel much less popular among Liberals, all the more so since GOP goes out of its way to roll out the red carpet to Netanyahu to come to Congress and bash Obama.

I suspect one reason why Obama was so eager to work with the more moderate elements of J-Street was to stick it to Netanyahu and the GOP.

But, Obama is still a shill to global Jewish power. Under his administration, Libya was toppled, its weapons were sent to Syria to shake Assad(enemy of Israel), and the mess in Ukraine was provoked by his administration.

    , @Jefferson
"I have to admit, the Israelis are paler than their opposition, on average."

Most Israelis are Eastern European Ashkenazi Jews and not 100 percent Middle Eastern like the Palestinians who have zero percent European ancestry. That is why Israelis on average are paler than Palestinians.

The Eastern European Ashkenazi element explains why some Hasidic men have blond beards or ginger beards and that is because they are not 100 percent Middle Eastern in ancestry.

A brutha has an incredible ability to sense malevolent intentions in other people’s minds, black or white.

Best example: Anytime they are treated rudely in a store or other business, it must be out of racial hatred. Whites never receive anything but polite service everywhere they go!

  22. @Mark Minter

So my wife had to have the "Talk" with our little blond 8 year old girl. My wife didn't mean to have this talk. But the story was there and the kid didn't understand it and asked the question.

    She asked "What is mugged?"

My wife said, "When someone tries to rob you using physical force or the threat of violence, often involving a weapon."

She asked, "And the boy that was killed resisted?"

    My wife said, "Yes."

And this 50 pound blond, blue eyed little girl who lives in a safe small town, practically void of threat because it is white, asked, "If I get mugged should I not resist?"

And my wife answered, "No, especially if it a black person. They often seek humiliation and dominance as the reason for mugging, and if you deny them what they seek, they think so little of you and your white body, that they will kill you."

This girl needn't have ever been aware that such possibilities existed, and now she does, and now she has a fear that she never would have had to have if there were no black bodies that present a real threat to her white body, a far greater threat than some woman "shoving" her.

The enormous chasm that separates the negro experience of “racism” from the white experience seems insurmountable. The negro experiences “racism” as noticing he is a negro.

The white experiences “racism” much differently (as your wife explained to your young daughter) in the form of violence both threatened and fulfilled.

The white’s low opinion of the negro is reinforced by his fear and loathing of the negro’s violence.

If you’ve ever been around a pack of small black kids, they bounce off the walls a lot more than white kids of the same age do. Black kids also intrude into your personal space in a manner that white kids instinctively avoid, and black kids immediately start demanding that you give them things with the relentlessness of a nest of hungry chicks trying to cadge a worm from a mother bird.

Black kids are so persistent about the latter that I think it’s innate, a evolutionary survival tactic they developed Africa so they can outdo their siblings in getting food/resources from their parents, and blacks will keep the habit into adulthood as long as there’s someone dumb enough (whites) to keep offering them stuff for free, and they will refuse to learn how to fend for themselves if they’re allowed to get away with it.

The demanding and greedy personality has an evolutionary advantage in a place like Africa, where there is plenty of food (compared to the colder and more food-barren north near the glaciers), and whether you got fed as a child, as opposed to your siblings gobbling it all up and leaving you out, depended on your skills in being able to nag your parents into hunting/gathering enough extra for you.

For whites, food resources were limited in prehistoric times, and parents had to ration it out to keep all their children alive, especially during winter, and they learned they couldn’t favor one child over the others without the risk of the others starving to death. The demanding/greedy personality wasn’t rewarded.

It’s the reason why blacks come naturally to a sense of entitlement, and why they’re so obsessed with material possessions and bling. Your ownership of stuff signals to other blacks that you’re a damned good nagger (or thief), which means you have superior genes and thus would make a good mate for another black.

“Ta-Nehisi Coates was born in 1975, yet you would think he was born in 1925 with his constant ranting about being racially oppressed by White people his entire life.”

The neo-Marxists (aka the PC True Believers) need constant villains to burn in effigy in front of the mob, while implicitly threatening to burn things down for real. Without manufacturing villains, there would be no throthing mob, swept along in the excitement. The neo-Marxists real power comes from the implicit threat of violence in countries where political violence is otherwise unacceptable. Ultimately they are nothing more than bullies and should be treated as such.

Just say no to uncivilized political bullying.

  31. The incident actually went like this. A black guy was letting his kid wander in the main thoroughfare of a busy theater. A woman who’d likely been delayed by this, attempted to teach the father how to behave in public by moving the kid out of the path. Coates knowing only the mores of Flatbush, where no one cares much for anyone else’s convenience, and sensing an opportunity to be offended went into an ecstasy of righteous indignation. Other New Yorkers got involved to help a woman deal with a loud jackass.

    Steven Thrasher also makes up stuff like this. My favorit of recent vitage is this from last December;

Six years ago, I went for a run in New York City. I’d left my watch and phone at home, so when I saw two NYPD cops on a corner, I stopped and said, “Excuse me, officers, can you tell me the time?”

One officer reached for his gun, pulled it out of his holster, and – when he saw the terror in my eyes – started laughing.

“Just kidding,” the white cop said as he put away his gun. “Gotcha!”

Speaking of dubious narratives, I searched for the story of the school kid shot in the chest last week. Couldn’t find it. And, “If I get mugged should I not resist?” John Ridley, right?

It's a multiplex and can get very crowded indeed. His description of the Klanoid nature of the hostile crowd that surrounded them is the purest bullshit. The clientele is very diverse and I remember being surprised at how many blacks there are - it's not a black neighborhood. The idea that any White Knight would have come to the defense of an aggrieved white woman in that theater, that neighborhood, is total fiction.

I've given up on the NY Times completely. I used to search through it for decent articles, which they did have, but no longer.

The story does sound ridiculous unless you consider another possibility.

In the video posted Elaine is able to throw some powerful shoves because she’s squared up with someone of equal or greater height. Think about how you’d shove a 4 year old. It would involve bending or crouching to get to their center of gravity, right? Sure, you could kind of push their head, but not very effectually. And I find it hard to believe that some random person in a theater is so mad about this little kid that they’d bend over to attack.

I can only conclude that TNC is leaving out a remarkable detail: the woman in question was an abrasive midget! She probably took exception to his son staring at her. I’d also bet the man who came to her aid was dressed as a clown and they were part of the same traveling circus troupe.

Either that or it’s all bullshit.

With each and every honest piece of writing on race by black people, we see white demands for putting race behind us; for blacks to shut up and be grateful for the progress they paid for so dearly. And we see white insistence that blacks don’t have it nearly as bad as [insert current/historical oppression here].

Desperate to be absolved for both this country’s horrifically racist foundations and the abiding racism they simply cannot shake, whites appear to be compelled to lash out and dismiss the black voices that describe their ongoing experiences of race in these United States. Blacks who dare to voice any analysis or feelings borne of anything besides gratefulness for having achieved a status a bit closer to full personhood must be portrayed as wallowing in victimhood.

And don’t dare mention reparations. Instead, prostrate yourself and cry out in gratitude that your ancestors were fortunate enough to be sold into slavery in order to land you here in the land of plenty–like the good outsider you still are.

In the new order, one’s sex or ‘gender’ is self-declared. So, I suppose if some British bloke says he’s a ‘gay girl in Damascus’, he or she or whatever is just that.

So, it doesn’t matter what genital you were born with or what doctors think. If you say you’re a man, you’re a man; if you say you’re a woman, you’re a woman.

    Okay…

So tell me… suppose two guys get ‘gay-married’. That would be ‘same sex marriage’, right?
Suppose after marriage, one guy says he is now a ‘woman’. Is the marriage then a normal marriage? I mean since one of the men is now a ‘woman’?

Actually, lots of liberals believe this, and it is one the big reasons behind the popularity of BDS.

Some conservatives believe this too (mostly MSM types), and I suspect it is also a reason behind the popularity of Israel in the MSM/center-right.

I have to admit, the Israelis are paler than their opposition, on average.

“Actually, lots of liberals believe this, and it is one the big reasons behind the popularity of BDS.”

Neocons may want the support of White Cons in the South but they don’t want the symbolic association.

Also, Netanyahu’s bad behavior toward Obama made Israel much less popular among Liberals, all the more so since GOP goes out of its way to roll out the red carpet to Netanyahu to come to Congress and bash Obama.

You could say it’s frictionless, because he’s encountered no friction at all: he doesn’t allow comments on his articles, he speaks to captive audiences, he’s feted with no virtually no critique up to now. There is a black feminist SJW on twitter who does this all the time, Trudy (@thetrudz). She's blocked me but I still check out her account from time to time for entertainment- and she constantly seems to be experiencing these kinds of insults from white people.

For example she likes make up and jewelry, so she went to check out some new products at the beauty store or whatever with her best friend, another black woman. Yet the moment they are chatting and enjoying their shopping a white woman appears and unable to stand the sight of two black women simply enjoying themselves, she marches over and thrusts her body between them, ostensibly to look at some jewelry, but obviously simply out of her endless need to center herself and her whiteness in every situation.

Most recently I checked her timeline and she was complaining that "she went to the grocery store and two white people cut in front of her in line, typical." She gets tons of sympathy and retweetes of course for enduring these offenses, I just wonder sometimes what really happened and especially where in the US white people casually cut in front of black people, or stand between black people engaged in conversation. Sometimes her followers admit that "has never happened to them" or similar but no one of her 1000s of followers really questions the situation.

  51. I can believe the casual shoving if it was a crowded escalator. You get a lot of people on an escalator and if there is any blockage at the bottom, you have a nasty accident waiting to happen as everyone piles up. If the kid was horsing around or lingering at the bottom waiting for Daddy to come down, then that typically violent and racist Upper West Side gangsta did the right thing nudging him out of the way.
When we leave the LA Opera and go down into the parking garage we always take the stairs down the eight levels because the escalators are jammed with semi-decrepit older people who can’t move out of the way fast enough to clear the bottom of the escalators, or stand around on the landing looking around and asking their companion if this is their level yet. You can see a bunch of broken hips just waiting to happen.

If people were taught to stand on the right half of the step (assuming a wide escalator, not the 1925 Macy's kind), those in a hurry could go around them. The Tube in London has little signs reminding trans-Calaisien wogs of this. Signs are not necessary in midtown Manhattan, as you's be trampled if you didn't.

    Wow, she understood all that?!

In TNC's world, racial hostility is a one-way street.

It is also interesting how Coates and people like him lament American society treating him and his progeny as though they aren't full participants in our culture but don't seem to make the connection to that in the way Coates so often signals he doesn't want to fully participate in that culture himself - such as through kids being given names like "Samori" that indicate a conscious effort to draw a line between the mainstream and his household, his stated preference for living amongst blacks, and so on.

In TNC’s world, racial hostility is a one-way street.

In the real world, racial hostility is a spaghetti junction.

However, it may be of iSteve interest on “Haven Monahan” grounds. It seems that the purported author, “Michael Sonmore,” does not exist beyond this one byline. No record at all. Not even from those internet PI sites that promise to track down anyone and make their credit rating and arrest record available for a fee.

The NY Mag site does not identify “Michael Sonmore” as a pseudonym. Hence they are alleging, if tacitly, that this is the real name of a real person.

But it reeks of phoniness. Most likely this is a far-left feminist trial balloon to see how many people they can get to cheer for this arrangement, and to what extent they can get the SJWs ginned up to persecute dissenters.

I wouldn’t be surprised if, not only there were no “Michael Sonmore” at all, but this was written by a woman out of wishful thinking. NY Mag would then be guilty of a hoax.

He flips from happy-go-lucky to stone face just as Jenner makes her way to the stage to accept the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage. As the audience erupts with applause, the camera pans over to Favre as he claps slowly before rubbing his hands together.

When we leave the LA Opera and go down into the parking garage we always take the stairs down the eight levels because the escalators are jammed with semi-decrepit older people who can't move out of the way fast enough to clear the bottom of the escalators, or stand around on the landing looking around and asking their companion if this is their level yet. You can see a bunch of broken hips just waiting to happen.

When we leave the LA Opera and go down into the parking garage we always take the stairs down the eight levels…

They have escalators in LA? I thought it was North Dakota with 10m people and climate control.

    Funiculars I could see…

the escalators are jammed with semi-decrepit older people who can’t move out of the way fast enough

If people were taught to stand on the right half of the step (assuming a wide escalator, not the 1925 Macy’s kind), those in a hurry could go around them. The Tube in London has little signs reminding trans-Calaisien wogs of this. Signs are not necessary in midtown Manhattan, as you’s be trampled if you didn’t.

But to this cretin Ta NaSei, it's all about the black body of his oblivious kid rather than the bodies of the people behind him. God forbid that TNC should care about anyone other than his own.

With each and every honest piece of writing on race by black people, we see white demands for putting race behind us; for blacks to shut up and be grateful for the progress they paid for so dearly. And we see white insistence that blacks don't have it nearly as bad as [insert current/historical oppression here].

Desperate to be absolved for both this country's horrifically racist foundations and the abiding racism they simply cannot shake, whites appear to be compelled to lash out and dismiss the black voices that describe their ongoing experiences of race in these United States. Blacks who dare to voice any analysis or feelings borne of anything besides gratefulness for having achieved a status a bit closer to full personhood must be portrayed as wallowing in victimhood.

And don't dare mention reparations. Instead, prostrate yourself and cry out in gratitude that your ancestors were fortunate enough to be sold into slavery in order to land you here in the land of plenty--like the good outsider you still are.

We've come a long way, yet we still have so far to go.

She looked up to look for his mom when she was approached by a black woman who very indignantly called her an f’kn something or other and told her to take her hands off her son. The argument/fight ensued; black woman took white woman’s (in blue) purse; she got it back (at the end of vid) but her money and iphone were stolen out of it. Police are now searching for the black women.

That’s from a facebook comment. Somewhere else, I saw an interview with one of the participants (actually a victim) who said the same thing. The blonde in the white dress made the criminal mistake of touching a little black boy who appeared lost. Don’t do that. Mama’s around somewhere, looking for stuff to steal or faces to punch.

But according to all the news sources, “a fight broke” out between equal groups of savages.

Best example: Anytime they are treated rudely in a store or other business, it must be out of racial hatred. Whites never receive anything but polite service everywhere they go!
  81. I caught some of Coates’s interview with Terri Gross.

At one point Coates explained to Gross that, in the hood, acts of physical aggression must be met with force. Otherwise one would be regarded as weak and targeted in the future.

He illustrated this with a story about how one of his teacher’s reprimanded him harshly. Coates felt he’d been disrespected and threatened the teacher. Coates was punished with suspension.

So his story to illustrate how to deal with physical attacks in the hood was premised on a teacher saying words to him in a classroom. Gross was quite deferential and did not observe the inconsistency, if she even noticed it.

Coates went on to describe how his mother wept when, during a different incident, he was arrested. He explained that this demonstrated the terror under which blacks in America live.

I remember my white suburban friend’s mom wept and shrieked when he got a nosebleed from a chunk of ice someone shot at him with a hockey stick.

“I have to admit, the Israelis are paler than their opposition, on average.”

It may have happened or could’ve been made up. Either way Coates is a hysterical ninny

Does he ever write about his Black Body doing woodworking or how he felt when his Black Body ate noodles in Okinawa or something? Has his Black Body ever been hot air ballooning? If not, he needs to branch out. He needs to get his Black Body out there.

A Black Body on a Dark Continent is a great title for a PBS series. So’s Black Body, Black Gold. Black Body Goes To Broadway? Black Body And The Castafiore Emerald? Black Body and the Cigars of the Pharaoh?

the fight started when the blonde woman in the white dress tried to help a little black boy who appeared lost. She looked up to look for his mom when she was approached by a black woman who very indignantly called her an f'kn something or other and told her to take her hands off her son. The argument/fight ensued; black woman took white woman's (in blue) purse; she got it back (at the end of vid) but her money and iphone were stolen out of it. Police are now searching for the black women.

That's from a facebook comment. Somewhere else, I saw an interview with one of the participants (actually a victim) who said the same thing. The blonde in the white dress made the criminal mistake of touching a little black boy who appeared lost. Don't do that. Mama's around somewhere, looking for stuff to steal or faces to punch.

But according to all the news sources, "a fight broke" out between equal groups of savages.

As far as we know, the woman in the Coates fable might have been trying to help a little boy lost in a crowd. We are only hearing one side of the story and from a pathological liar, at that.

He's been heavily promoted so that's why he's had his success. The majority of people are followers who wait to have their opinions given to them. There're told he's great so that's it; the emperor has fabulous clothes. Everything he comes up with is old and stale, a rehash of things that have been floating around for at least the past 50-60 years. Fawning language like "meditation", "frictionless glide straight to the heart", and so on, is thrown around like confetti. It's the artificial manufacture of people designated as our leadership. I'll bet that most people who comment here could crank out better quality commentary than this character.

But they couldn’t do so while being black. You have to understand that there are different applicant pools for columnists just as there are for seats at top colleges (and firefighter jobs, etc.). Probably 90% of the Asians who are rejected from Ivy League colleges are better qualified than the blacks who do get into these schools but they aren’t competing for the same seats – a certain % of the seats have been set aside for blacks and Hispanics. So if you are black you don’t have to be among the best qualified applicants (far from it – most of the black applicants, if you switched the ethnicity on their application to Asian, would have ZERO chance of getting in), you just have to be among the best qualified BLACK applicants. This is the very essence of “Affirmative Action” – it is just a smoothly propagandized euphemism for “Lowering the Bar”. If there is no lowering of the bar then you don’t really have affirmative action.

They concluded Ashkenazi Jews were about 50% Middle Eastern and 50% European. In the 2013 abstract, they were pretty specific: they estimated the European ancestry fraction at 55% , plus or minus 2%. ( In our book, we had a crude estimate of about 40% European ancestry.) They estimated the split between Europeans and Middle Easterners at about 9000 BC: which sounds about the right date for the entry of the Sardinian-like farmers. From other data (mtDNA) , and from the fact that you see almost zero WHG or ANE in Ashkenazi autosomal genes, one can conclude that the European admixture was mostly Italian, with some southern French.

The other remarkable thing about this account is that TNC somehow doesn't give any kind of description of what was said back and forth between him and the woman and other whites. No doubt this detailed account wouldn't put him in such a fine light -- such as the real possibility that he started screaming and cursing at her, and the others came to her defense because he was obviously behaving in a threatening manner.

It's so nice, 0f course, when only one side in a dispute gets to record the account of it, and especially so when there's no check for lies or exaggeration.

There is a black feminist SJW on twitter who does this all the time, Trudy (@thetrudz). She’s blocked me but I still check out her account from time to time for entertainment- and she constantly seems to be experiencing these kinds of insults from white people.

Most recently I checked her timeline and she was complaining that “she went to the grocery store and two white people cut in front of her in line, typical.” She gets tons of sympathy and retweetes of course for enduring these offenses, I just wonder sometimes what really happened and especially where in the US white people casually cut in front of black people, or stand between black people engaged in conversation. Sometimes her followers admit that “has never happened to them” or similar but no one of her 1000s of followers really questions the situation.

Slavery is over-blown as a historical phenomenon anyway. It was hardly some uniquely oppressive system of economic production or social structure. It frankly, wasn’t all that different from most of the world throughout most of history.

Slavery is spoken of in dualistic terms - you were either a slave or free. In reality, human servitude was on a sliding scale throughout history, from slaves whose masters had the power of life and death over them at one extreme, to the other end where it merged imperceptibly with the status of free citizenship.

Of course there is plenty of pure slavery in Africa and Asia to this day, and there would be a lot more of it were it not for the fact that Third World countries have to at least pretend it's forbidden if they don't want to face trade and aid sanctions.

I wouldn't be surprised if, not only there were no "Michael Sonmore" at all, but this was written by a woman out of wishful thinking. NY Mag would then be guilty of a hoax.

Senmore is an anagram of Monrose.

    Michelle Monrose?

Slavery is over-blown as a historical phenomenon anyway. It was hardly some uniquely oppressive system of economic production or social structure. It frankly, wasn't all that different from most of the world throughout most of history.

Slavery is spoken of in dualistic terms – you were either a slave or free. In reality, human servitude was on a sliding scale throughout history, from slaves whose masters had the power of life and death over them at one extreme, to the other end where it merged imperceptibly with the status of free citizenship.

Of course there is plenty of pure slavery in Africa and Asia to this day, and there would be a lot more of it were it not for the fact that Third World countries have to at least pretend it’s forbidden if they don’t want to face trade and aid sanctions.

  104. @WhatEvvs

Exactly. And why wasn't Father of the Year holding his 5 year old's hand? In a crowded theater?

I actually have had this experience with black tots on the subway and I keep a wide berth. Their parents don't take proper care of them, and I've learned how dangerously thin-skinned the parents are, so I simply avoid them and take care never to say a critical word. The white woman should probably have not said anything, but she's the victim here, not Coates. And the way the libtards at the Times enable him is sickening.

I don't think there are many fathers of 4 year old kids who wouldn't have the good sense to hold onto their kid going down a crowded escalator, in case the kid has some problems getting off the escalator, or problems clearing away from it. Even for the sense of safety of that kid, you would do that, instinctively: the kid could easily get hurt.

But TNC, for all his professed concern about his kid, is obviously a crappy, negligent father.

What did he do with his kid in a subway station? Let him run right up to the tracks?

Who isn't worried about black bodies? How about TNC?

OT, has anyone seen the video clip the NYPost is running along with this story (http://nypost.com/2015/07/16/brett-farve-makes-the-espys-uncomfortable-for-everyone/) about Brett Favre's "bizarre behavior" at the Espys? Favre is guilty of, yes, stopping his applause early:

He flips from happy-go-lucky to stone face just as Jenner makes her way to the stage to accept the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage. As the audience erupts with applause, the camera pans over to Favre as he claps slowly before rubbing his hands together.

You know, I've always been a little skeptical about the story about Stalin and applause. I still am. But I have no skepticism left for our social justice betters.

I’d be interested in seeing a list of those one would expect to be attendees who weren’t there. They’d be the smart ones.

To begin with to actually be mugged is to be physically restrained, e.g., if someone yokes you around your neck and an accomplice extract money or items from your person, it is a Mugging. When someone draws and train a weapon on you demanding money or your personal items it is a ‘stick-up’, an Armed Robbery period. If they shoot you, it either falls into the criminality of Assualt or Murder depending on the circumstances.

  110. @David
The incident actually went like this. A black guy was letting his kid wander in the main thoroughfare of a busy theater. A woman who'd likely been delayed by this, attempted to teach the father how to behave in public by moving the kid out of the path. Coates knowing only the mores of Flatbush, where no one cares much for anyone else's convenience, and sensing an opportunity to be offended went into an ecstasy of righteous indignation. Other New Yorkers got involved to help a woman deal with a loud jackass.

    Steven Thrasher also makes up stuff like this. My favorit of recent vitage is this from last December;

Couldn't find it. And, “If I get mugged should I not resist?” John Ridley, right?

The incident actually went like this

Did you take video with your cell phone?

  111. @Hersh
Last week Obama was asked about taking back Cosby's Medal of Freedom because he drugged women and there are lots of people wanting to take down statues of Confederates and even get rid of the Jefferson Memorial because Jefferson owned slaves. Will we see Martin Luther King Jr. lose his holiday in our lifetimes? He beat up women according to his close associate Ralph Abernathy. Women and girls shouldn't be told to look up to him.

Theres a malevolence about that holiday and the way it was forced on the country.

He beat up women according to his close associate Ralph Abernathy.

So you take one black man (Abernathy) at his word when he speaks about an incident involving his friend, but call the other (Tennessee) a liar when he speaks of an incident involving son, why?

Does Ta-Nehisi Coates ever write about anything other than Blackness? Does he ever write about his Black Body doing woodworking or how he felt when his Black Body ate noodles in Okinawa or something? Has his Black Body ever been hot air ballooning? If not, he needs to branch out. He needs to get his Black Body out there.

A Black Body on a Dark Continent is a great title for a PBS series. So's Black Body, Black Gold. Black Body Goes To Broadway? Black Body And The Castafiore Emerald? Black Body and the Cigars of the Pharaoh?

He needs to do the whole Tintin series but just using his magnificent Black Body. No dog named Snowy in this one, no way!

Sampling bias, "Truth". You only show up at threads were black issues are discussed because, like Coates, "blackness" is all that concerns you. If Steve only ever wrote about science, baroque music, ham radio - well, pretty much anything that doesn't interest blacks, which is to say just about everything but blackness - we would never hear from Coates. Or you.
  113. @Jack D
If there is no lowering of the bar then you don't really have affirmative action.

most of the black applicants, if you switched the ethnicity on their application to Asian, would have ZERO chance of getting in),

Average SAT score (on 1600 pt scale) Asian 1091, White 1068, Black 864. So the white Asian gap is 23 pts and the black -white gap is 204 pts . In statistical terms the average black -white gap is 1 full standard deviation (corresponding to 15 IQ points) and the white-Asian gap is only a few IQ points.

Each year, only around 1,000 blacks in the entire US score over 1,400 on the SAT 1600 (roughly what whites/Asians need to get into a better Ivy), which is around 1% of the total # achieving those scores. Without AA, the Ivies would be around 1 or 2% black. Cal Tech, which does not do AA (they have a strange notion that they should just accept the best qualified applicants period) , is around that % of black.

One question I've never gotten a definitive answer to is whether Stalin had a sense of humor. Much of history is written by ex-Trotskyites, so they've painted Stalin as a cipher with no personality, but there's some evidence that he had a vicious sense of humor.

Understandable why they would take that line – Trotsky himself was, to put it gently, not Groucho Marx.

Stalin had a killer sense of humour.

When he informed the Politburo that they must seize Finland in 1939, many were horrified and asked him “what has Finland done to deserve invasion?”

Stalin replied: “I am not responsible for geography”.

Montefiore’s “The Court of the Red Tsar” is full of stories which testify to Stalin’s humour, best described as a mix of gallow’s humour and pranks. He would often rib Molotov for being hen-pecked by his Jewish wife Polina, for example.

Moroccan Jews of both sexes have been some of the best looking people I've seen around, and they incline to be on the fair side, especially for the geographic area. Noses tend to be fairly straight and not very long. There's a certain chisled look to the brows. The lady in the picture is only part anyway.

Coates so often signals he doesn’t want to fully participate in that culture himself

    From Wiki:
Coates grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. His father, William Paul Coates, was a Vietnam War veteran and former Black Panther. His mother, Cheryl, was the breadwinner in the family and his father was a stay-at-home dad who ran Black Classic Press, a small publishing house specializing in African-American studies[4] during Ta-Nehisi’s childhood.[5] Ta-Nehisi’s father had seven children.[6] Coates says that Ta-Nehisi is an Egyptian name for ancient Nubia.[7]

The Upper West side subway line had a sudden announcement that the train we were on was “Now running express, next stop 125th St Harlem”. So we got off a super crowded train and needed to find a downtown train. Then when going down a packed stairway, I put my young son over my left shoulder to carry him and held onto the banister with my right hand. A tall teenage black guy, wearing basketball sweats, decided to head up the down side of the stairway. When he reached me, he shouts, “Get out of my way!”, so I leaned into the side to let him pass. He doesn’t pass me, but shouts, “I said, get the fuck out of my way!!!”. So I tell him calmly that I needed to hold the bannister, as I’m balancing my son. He then gets up real close to me, like inches from my face – we were almost face to face, as he was on a lower step but about 6′ 5″ or more. He shouts, “Move CRACKER!”. So I decided to release the banister and edge around him. As I did, he slammed into me, then pushed me down the stairway with both hands. I half fell, half staggered, barreling into 4 or 5 people, before landing on my knees at the end of the stairway – just saving my 3 yo son from hitting the concrete.

People like TNC still cling to the hope that if racism can be snuffed out

Is this his goal? Anti-White racism has been much more common and vigorous in the USA during his lifetime, 1980s-Present, yet of course we never have seen Ta-Nehisi condemn anti-White racism in any form.

I think a fair criticism of Ta-Nehisi is that he just cashing in, filling a role of "Non-Bellicose Black Intellectual" for White Atlantic subscribers and that type. There is a certain market for polished Black intellectual types all around. There is another, partly overlapping, market for people who rail against White oppression. Why these two markets exist is another question. Ta-Nehisi didn't create them, but fills both at once.

Not to say he is just "trolling", but yes that he lacks a discernible positive vision. He may have had one in his 20s. By age 40 now I sense none from him, except to attack and demoralize White people...all the way to the bank.

Me too. My eyes glaze over with absolute indifference. I don’t care about him, what he thinks, says, or does. Somebody shoves his kid — kids gets shoved by strangers all the time, when they get in the way. It’s not unusual.

Taylor has not been a natural blonde since she was a child. If it wasn't for hair dye, she would be either light brown haired or medium brown haired.

"I couldn’t rule out plastic surgery on the nose either."

Do you have any evidence that she had plastic surgery on her nose? If she was a Shiksa you would not questioning if she had a nose job. So to you any Jewish woman who does not have a Barbra Streisand shaped nose is automatically due to plastic surgery?

You might as well also question if her blue eyes are contact lenses

A French traveler (not Jewish), in the 19th c. called Moroccan Jewish women “pearls of Eden.” They were known for beauty. Moroccan Jews of both sexes have been some of the best looking people I’ve seen around, and they incline to be on the fair side, especially for the geographic area. Noses tend to be fairly straight and not very long. There’s a certain chisled look to the brows. The lady in the picture is only part anyway. It would not surprise me at all that she is part Moroccan Jewish. Hey, Ryan O’Neil is 1/4 Jewish. I really don’t think it’s a race. It’s just a sort of …ethnicity maybe.
