Burgess’ novel ‘The Wanting Seed’ did predict this. I read it back in the 90’s but if I remember correctly the dystopian government in that novel heavily encourages homosexuality and makes it a requirement for its officials and servants as some sort of grand scheme for global depopulation. Kevin Michael Grace did a good review and talk about how it relates to the current year on his youtube podcast a while back.
I've tried to think that strong incentives for early marriage and, maybe, the legalization of prostitution in some genteel manner ought to curb mischievous "gay-centric" and "trans-centric" lobbies, but I've got a feeling those arguments are headed nowhere. Someone with more gumption and skill than I have ought to make the case, though.
With all due respect, you're comparing apples with oranges. I've not read the novel but from your description, I gather encouraging homosexuality at least had the merit of a practical benefit--preventing or reversing overpopulation. Prioritizing the demands of a relative few by policing the majority's thoughts rather than doing actual police work only destabilizes society and serves to offend and humiliate the majority. But of course, to the global elites, that's the point of the exercise.

When I was a UK teen, it was illegal( though not for carpet cleaners, as usual, women went scot-free while men received custodial sentences).

Essentially some forces in some areas will have a rainbow design with a number and website for reporting hate crimes. (His mother was even made a member of the House of Lords) Needless to say, Lawrence is still very much Britain’s go to reference because new Emmet Tills have failed to materialise almost like English people have become less ethnocentric and likely to engage in interracial murder but are treated as if this is increasingly not the case. (Almost like ‘racism’ in practice just means the white native population’s ethnocentrism and as they have abandoned it, other groups have come to attack their group as it is weak and atomised accusing it of ‘racism’ more and more as the limits of what is even legitimate from them becomes lower)

‘A Sort of Parricide’: H.G. Wells and the Making of George Orwell
It is about Wells-Orwell relations during WW2, when they finally met and socialized for 2-3 years. It contains some interesting gossip, but what is more important, it- I think- gives an honest account of their mutually stimulating and confrontational exchange of ideas about “everything” – socialism, capitalism, democracy, liberalism, nationalism, human nature, technology, European and world history etc.
There are two mature, intelligent & experienced men, in the center of a still vast empire, and during the greatest Western civilizational crisis as yet.
And they are so evidently inferior to that old German guy, Thomas Mann, whose “The Magic Mountain” was published in 1924. Mann knew endlessly more than these two combined, two decades earlier. He was a deeper, more nuanced, comprehensive, uncompromising and analytical mind. Putting aside all else, this discursive novel’s long discussions about human nature, liberalism, nationalism, conservatism, religion, sado-masochism in social and political culture, the role of myth and critical thinking in making of a society, possibility of social engineering & the limits to it …. make Orwell and Wells look like adolescents compared with a grown man

Most German thinkers tend to pretentiousness. Kant wrote clean, unpretentious philosophical essays for The Berliner Monthly (das Berliner Monatsheft), until he became insecure, and started writing sentences with a dozen clauses in them, which required a 100-piece ratchet set to take apart. (The trick is to first remove everything between the first and last clause, read that first/last set, and then read the rest.)
The postwar American influence revolutionized German writing among a small group of conservatives (Robert Spaemann, Odo Marquard, and I believe a third man, whose name I've forgotten). Rudy Bubner, from my school, Tübingen, wrote very clean German prose. My brilliant, old teacher, Hans (Joachim) Krämer, also wrote serviceable prose.
But they're all dead, now, and the Gerries have no one.
The British had Hobbes, Locke, Berkeley, F. H. Bradley, Russell and Collingwood, who weren't half bad, and the Scots had Smith and Hume, and some other fellows whom I've yet to read. For my money, the Brits have a greater philosophical history than the Gerries.

I’ve not read the novel but from your description, I gather encouraging homosexuality at least had the merit of a practical benefit–preventing or reversing overpopulation. Prioritizing the demands of a relative few by policing the majority’s thoughts rather than doing actual police work only destabilizes society and serves to offend and humiliate the majority. But of course, to the global elites, that’s the point of the exercise.

As regards my spelling, my “colour” is only correct this side of the Atlantic.
My spelling has deteriorated because of Microsoft Office: when it came out I was surprised it was triggered quite often. by words like “color” “tire ” ( meaning “tyre” as in car tyre) and a few other things that indicated that it was correcting to US English.
I used this for about a decade, ignoring the darn thing but I didn’t realise there was such a difference between US and UK spelling AND grammar!

I read Hills Like White Elephants as a very young man. I remember figuring out what was going on pretty early, and being proud of myself for my cleverness. I remember being impressed at the deftness of Hemingway’s prose; at his light touch. To this day I can see, in my mind’s eye, the barroom in the train station and the drops of condensation running down the outside of the cold pitcher of beer.
Now, most of what I see in his writing is emptiness. At 19, Across the River and Into the Trees seemed very solemn and elegiac. Now, in my fifties, it’s laughably bad.
The only thing I still read, and love, of Hemingway’s is A Moveable Feast. In it, he at least realizes all that he’s thrown away for nothing.

I’m not unsympathetic to the idea, but I’d like to point out that the Taliban didn’t bug out- they made the other guy bug out. Of course, a lot of them died in a big pile of hot brass.

So by "winning" in Afghanistan, and not merely "not losing" the Taliban has markedly worse strategic choices. They can be defeated, or at least driven out of cities. Their heavily armed citizens can shoot the Taliban as easily as they used to do themselves to others.
I predict this will soon happen, if not already. Time to rethink Shiria Law.

Colin Wilson often commented on how the British hated “ideas” and considered having an interest in ideas — being an “intellectual” — was being a “phony” and a “pseud” and so on.
At a certain point British scepticism of big ideas, which is healthy, I think, became a kind of class-based “one doesn’t talk about such boring things” kind of thing. The reviews of Wilson’s later books, or even Kingsley Amis’ review of his first, The Outsider, are examples of this sort of thing. In The Angry Years Wilson had his revenge, diagnosing, I think correctly, the way Amis and the other “angry young men” of the 50s went from class resentment to thinking anything intellectual was “posh” and “phony.” The upper class liked Mozart, so Mozart was “phony” and Amis and Larkin liked Negro jazz because it was “real”.
They had a point, and I still like Larkin’s idea that a work of art — painting, music, book — must have an immediate appeal, before all kinds of “studying” is justified — as opposed to the “Modernist” idea that “you have to study a lot first before you can appreciate X” — but still, they went too far, as it became an excuse for ignorance, no need to get aquainted with high culture and idea when you were givent the chance.
In his "Super-Consciousness" he writes very well about the sense of self and inner freedom that came with Romanticism, against a rather mechanical view on inner life, dominant during the Enlightenment (Goethe and Wordsworth vs Samuel Johnson and other 18th C guys).

I didn’t say they were not pretentious. But German philosophical tradition is vastly richer than any other written in a living European tongue. When you take a procession from Kant via Fichte via Hegel and Stirner and Marx and Schopenhauer and Nietzsche and Spengler and Husserl and Wittgenstein and Heidegger (not paying too much attention to Brentano or Scheler or…)- everybody else seems, well, “small”. Hume is the summit, showing what a common sense analytical mind can come up with when it tries to the utmost, without prejudice and dogmatism. And this is not too revelatory, although it is stimulating. The greatness of German thought lies in its fusion of Reason with Imagination and Speculation; their weakness is in building huge imaginary structures on a flimsy ground of virtually no empirical evidence.

Colin Wilson is still worth reading. I find 5-7 of his books illuminating, especially on super-consciousness & the crime. He is frequently naive and he repeats himself- but he can be a revelatory writer in many passages, because he had noticed something that was always there, but nobody cared to pay attention.
In his “Super-Consciousness” he writes very well about the sense of self and inner freedom that came with Romanticism, against a rather mechanical view on inner life, dominant during the Enlightenment (Goethe and Wordsworth vs Samuel Johnson and other 18th C guys).

The secret to success in modern warfare is simple: you don’t have to “win” but you don’t lose.
Not losing is the secret.
It helps if you are in your own country.
Short of total extermination (which will work) not losing is guaranteed to work in the long run.
You keep fighting until they tire out and leave, go broke, change leaders, etc.
Now of course the Taliban are “in charge.” So nice big buildings, bridges, dams, power stations, government offices, military camps, etc. are all big potential targets. Food markets, mosques, etc.
The Taliban can now “lose” since they hold the symbols of power (like the former ‘government’) but currently lack the air power and huge financial subsidies. Also, they have to do all of their own fighting. Holding power in the face of hostility is tough.
So by “winning” in Afghanistan, and not merely “not losing” the Taliban has markedly worse strategic choices. They can be defeated, or at least driven out of cities. Their heavily armed citizens can shoot the Taliban as easily as they used to do themselves to others.
I predict this will soon happen, if not already. Time to rethink Shiria Law.

While I was not a fan of Republicanism or the IRA, it nonetheless amazed me to see the “Ourselves Alone” crowd, who would blow up civilians because their families had moved there 400 years ago, and who drove people out of County Cork in the 1920s because they’d served the Crown in WWI, staying utterly silent as North Dublin, Cork and other areas are transformed. When I was in Cork in 1988 it was almost entirely Irish, by 2016 it was only 79% Irish.
