From the New York Times on New Year’s Day, one of 12 articles the New York newspaper has run on this Texas shooting in recent days:

Police Searching for Gunman Who Fired Into Car and Killed a 7-Year-Old

By Sarah Mervosh, Jan. 1, 2019

A 7-year-old who was riding in a car with her mother and three sisters was killed in Texas over the weekend, the authorities said, when a gunman in a pickup truck suddenly pulled up alongside them and opened fire.

The authorities, who said the shooting appeared random and unprovoked, were searching Monday for her killer. …

The authorities described the gunman as a white man in his 40s with a beard, wearing a red, hooded sweatshirt and driving a red pickup truck.

The police sketch looked like the kind of cruelly handsome white actor who gets cast in home security TV commercials as a burglar, or like Viggo Mortensen starring in The Tom Petty Story.

The image of a white man suddenly firing on a black family raised questions about whether the shooting had been racially motivated. Sheriff Gonzalez said the authorities had not established a motive and could not discount the possibility of a hate crime.

“We’re not ruling anything out and we’re not going to speculate,” he said.

As I’ve mentioned before, in recent years, the cops have had a pretty good record at not getting carried away by media enthusiasm to hand them Great White Defendants. “We’re not ruling anything out and we’re not going to speculate,” is a pretty good response.

At Rally for Jazmine Barnes, an Outpouring of Grief and a Plea for Answers

By David Montgomery and Julia Jacobs, Jan. 5, 2019

HOUSTON — Relatives of Jazmine Barnes, the 7-year-old Texas girl who was fatally shot inside a moving car, grieved on Saturday at an emotionally charged rally not far from where the gunman opened fire on a family that was out on a morning coffee run.

Nearly 1,000 people gathered to honor Jazmine and to urge law enforcement to find the man who the police said attacked on Dec. 30 without provocation.

Jazmine, who was black, was in the car with her mother and three sisters when a white man pulled his red pickup truck beside them and began shooting, the police said.

But … from Fox 26 News in Houston today:

Multiple sources say black man in custody in Jazmine Barnes case
By: FOX 26 Houston staff, POSTED: JAN 05 2019 08:45PM CST

HOUSTON (FOX 26) — Multiple sources tell FOX 26 News that a suspect is in custody in the shooting death of 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes, along with a possible second suspect. Sources say the alleged shooter is black, not white, and also that the shooting may have been gang-related.

Update: an anonymous iSteve commenter points out that the New York Times was obsessed with this police blotter item from a different time zone:

SuspectUpUpdate: iSteve commenter Harry Baldwin notes:

Give the police artist some credit–a few small tweaks and he’s got the culprit.”

The phrase “the hunt for the Great White Defendant” comes from Tom Wolfe’s classic novel The Bonfire of the Vanities.

It’s one of those Sapir-Whorf terms that if you internalize the knowledge that the media establishment is bored and depressed with all the black murderers and lusts for white murderers, especially of black baby bodies like honor student Henry Lamb in TBotV, Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, and Jazmine Barnes, then you’ll be less often surprised when actual investigation tend not to turn out the way the press had feverishly anticipated.

Is her writing now totally under the veil of editorial-anonymity at the NYT?

She is a humble-seeming non-entity online as of early 2019; personal blog empty for past two years; no comprehensive column archive that I can see. She has even been talked into scaling back her hate-tweeting against Whites after the August 2018 dust-up.

There is a United States Marine Corps, there is a Hells Angels Motorcycle Club, and there is a Society of Jesus, known as the Jesuits. None of them take imposters very well.

There is, however, no "The Klan", there are a dozen or more groups calling themselves KKK this or that at any given time, they tend to come and go with fluidity.

There was a Klan group in Johnson County, Kansas, in the seventies. That was before I moved here, but I've met a few former members. A good indication of how seriously they took the racial stuff was that after a meeting and maybe lighting a cross-on their own property-they'd doff their robes and head out for barbecue-at Gates BBQ's Olathe location! The all black staff knew who they were and didn't care because they were polite and tipped well.

In general, though, most KKK groups consist of a few old drunks and a larger number of BATFE, FBI, $PLC or ADL (Admirers of Dalitz and Lansky) informants. None have any respect even amongst the larger so called "white nationalist" or "white separatist" community.

The last really serious white power group to have open meetings and a preponderance of members not drunks or informers was William Pierce's National Alliance, and that collapsed within months of his death.

Not the Little Red Riding Hood of my youth.

RT had this to say and it sounded off:

    https://www.rt.com/usa/447963-texas-child-killer-reward/

Washington screamed at her children to “get down!” as bullets ripped through the car, CNN reported. The panicked mother threw herself on her eldest daughter sitting in the passenger seat, but was unable to shield her three daughters in the back seat.

When the shooting stopped, a voice cried out from the back seat: “Mama, Jazmine’s not moving…she’s not talking.” When Washington turned around, seven-year-old Jazmine was dead, shot in the head. Washington herself was wounded. A red pickup truck sped off, and the shooter got away.

    ….

In addition, New York-based activist Shaun King – active in the Black Lives Matter movement – and civil rights attorney Lee Merritt have offered a $35,000 cash reward to help find the suspect.

“I have $35,000 in cash for the person who turns in the murderer of 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes,” King announced on Tuesday. In an earlier tweet, King described the suspect as an “evil coward,” while Merritt said “there exists no rationale for the attack other than hate.”

This is a little cynical, but maybe they wanted to let the race activists dig themselves in a little deeper before pulling the rug out from under them. "After all, hey, that's what the grieving mother said, so if we don't dutifully produce the composite sketch, we might be criticized later for not believing the victim."

Making the composite sketch a dead ringer for Viggo Mortensen was probably the cops little inside joke.

  17. The Daily Mail reported the first (and false) part of the story. I’m wondering if it will report the second (and true) part. With the demise of Paul Dacre as editor, the DM seems to be in the hands of bubblehead Piers Morgan. Tom Wolfe presaged Morgan as the unscrupulous English journalist in Bonfire of the Vanities. Rendering the devil its due, today's Daily Mail reported the suspect was black; so contrary to my initial expectations, it did come true. I attribute this reportage to the demise of Paul Dacre and the concomitant rise of Piers Morgan.

There is a great shortage of affordable used "beater" pickup trucks. As late as 2005 or so a thousand bucks would get a running truck, $25oo a fairly nice one. No more. Any decent truck is five grand around here now.

Two reasons. One was Obama's cash for clunkers deal in which idiot suburban white cunts took $4000 for all manner of decent vehicles to trade them in for Hondas even when they were worth more. The other is that Mexicans, legal and illegal, have bought up many tens or hundreds of thousands of these trucks and took them back to Mexico.

Especially in demand were 80s and early 90s Chevy and GMC trucks with Gen II small blocks where they could rip off the electronics and convert them to carburetor and distributor which are more maintainable in remote backwards parts of Mexico.

I see blacks driving pickups fairly often.
    , @International Jew
Pickup trucks were banned at the upscale Atlanta apartment complex I lived in, back in the 1980s. Contractors in to do work sure, but actual residents were expected to drive respectable sedans.

That was before the SUV boom.

Some say, "we need our own media." We have our own media, here. There is no reason millions of people can't read here and in similar places.

Yes, this question is like one from a kid, but that's the point. What has to happen is for people to click here instead of there. It's that simple.

How is this a black family? Is the mother black? Why do neither the father nor the daughter/victime look black? How did the "black victim" narrative get started? Is this one of those "I identify as black" things? This father isn't any blacker than Colin Kaepernick ... oh, wait ....

Okay, spoke too soon, the mom is quite the legit African American. Also, the dad speaks in heavy African American Vernacular English, ghetto homey sub-dialect.

Mom’s pierced tongue is a nice touch. This couple has four children? Or at least she does?

By the way, the facial features of the young girl victim, while cute, suggest some mild genetic disorder going on.

Good observation on the poor girl's (maybe) genetic disorder. Mild Down's Syndrome perhaps.

The new sketch, published on Thursday, was compiled from testimony by Ms Washington and two of her daughters, aged 13 and 15, who were in the car at the time.

Jazmine’s mother, 30, who was shot in the arm, tearfully recounted the attack from her hospital bed in the shooting aftermath.

Today my little girl named Jazmine Barnes was shot and killed. [...] I could never imagine the day of losing one of my own children let alone the youngest of my 8 in such a selfish and sensless way.

The difference is, there are probably more NY Times writers and editors than there are actual Klan members.

There is a United States Marine Corps, there is a Hells Angels Motorcycle Club, and there is a Society of Jesus, known as the Jesuits. None of them take imposters very well.

There is, however, no “The Klan”, there are a dozen or more groups calling themselves KKK this or that at any given time, they tend to come and go with fluidity.

There was a Klan group in Johnson County, Kansas, in the seventies. That was before I moved here, but I’ve met a few former members. A good indication of how seriously they took the racial stuff was that after a meeting and maybe lighting a cross-on their own property-they’d doff their robes and head out for barbecue-at Gates BBQ’s Olathe location! The all black staff knew who they were and didn’t care because they were polite and tipped well.

In general, though, most KKK groups consist of a few old drunks and a larger number of BATFE, FBI, $PLC or ADL (Admirers of Dalitz and Lansky) informants. None have any respect even amongst the larger so called “white nationalist” or “white separatist” community.

The last really serious white power group to have open meetings and a preponderance of members not drunks or informers was William Pierce’s National Alliance, and that collapsed within months of his death.

Exactly. The name's not trademarked, those using the name are not all organized together, and it is ignorant to speak of "The Klan".

NY Times, 10 Minutes Ago: Jazmine Who?
    , @ic1000
Thanks for that compilation of NYT stories on the Jazmine Barnes shooting.

The catalog for TV's NBC Nightly News is not as compelling, but it's still informative. Anchor Lester Holt uses his erudition and Talented Tenth good looks to create an aura of authoritative trustworthiness. It's a powerful package for instructing flyover country on the evils of badwhites.

Jazmine Barnes was shot on the morning of Sunday, Dec. 30th. CNN:

[Mother LaPorsha] Washington says she believes race played a role. The white pickup driver could clearly see "a black mother with four beautiful children, girls, in this car," she said... A sketch of the suspect was compiled from descriptions from Jazmine's mother and three sisters. It showed a white man in his 40s with a 5 o'clock shadow and a hoodie.

For whatever reason, NBC Nightly News' website is nigh-impossible to search. From YouTube:
    * Dec. 31 — 1 min 38 sec"Manhunt Underway After Gunman Opens Fire On Family, Killing 7-Year-Old Girl"
    * Jan 1 — no story
    * Jan 2 — 1 min 15 sec "$50,000 Reward To Find Gunman Who Left 7-Year-Old Dead"
    * Jan 3 — 1 min 43 sec "Police Release Sketch In Hunt For Killer Of 7-Year-Old In 'Unprovoked’ Attack"
    * Jan 4 — no story
    * Jan 5 — 1 min 6 sec "Community Calls For Justice For Jazmine Barnes, 7-Year-Old Killed In Texas"

There are about 18 minutes of News each evening. The white-murderer-black-victim aspect of this Texas drive-by shooting meant that it merited over 5% of available time for those 6 nights, making it about the fourth most important story, nationwide.

After tonight's predictable grudging admission that the eyewitness identification was somewhat inaccurate ("white Hispanic black"), how much airtime will NBC's SJW newshounds devote to further developments? As iSteve readers alone seem to know, to ask the question is to answer it.

The arrest of Jazmine Barnes's evil white killer was going to be the opening shot of the 2020 campaign. It was going to be good for a million black votes, it was going to tear down all the remaining Confederate monuments, it was going to sway Texas to the D column by turning out 110% of the black vote. Accordingly, running a dozen stories on this local police blotter item from a distant city was NOT overkill.

Of course, now that the killer is black, well never mind. It will be memory holed and the search for the next great white defendant will resume unabated.

I have been a regular reader of this blog for several years, and intellectually believe that the notion of a "hate crime" is deeply flawed and pernicious, and has been promulgated by malevolent people. And yet the idea of a "hate crime" is STILL attached in my mind to that. I know that in reality, people call it a hate crime when a person expresses the opinion on twitter that, for instance, children should have a mother and a father. But I think of this black guy getting dragged to his death. That is some effective propaganda. Apparently one the killers is now scheduled for execution, but maybe the $PLC should use some its extra stash to reward him. He's done them well. Get him "accidentally" released and fly him to whichever Caribbean island holds their bank account, and give him an ATM card. He's been in prison so presumably he can manage living with black people by now.

You misunderstand me. If this was a gang related shooting, the woman may have known exactly who it was or had a short list of possible perps. I mean, maybe the woman gave the cops a name, and the cops released a fake composite sketch so the person they were actually looking for didn't get freaked and go into hiding. I don't know if cops do that, but I can imagine they might.

How is it remarkable? Google came to prominence through great, relatively politically unbiased search. Now they have a monopoly through network effect. If they lose that their ad revenue dries up and they become just another altavista albeit with a lot of great products such as their map software.

Bing and others need all the help they can get to get google users to defect, and if providing unbiased search is the way to do it that is what they must do.

Steve you do a great service. I saw this story on the CBS evening news...

Steve does great work. The only little problem is that he reaches hundreds and the NYT, CBS, CNN etc reach hundreds of millions.

“The image of a white man suddenly firing on a black family…”

The image is sound, no matter the actual hue of the gunman. Because Black Families are always attacked (suddenly!) by white men, in principle I mean. Truth is greater than facts, as Truth will always tell you.

…the NYT, CBS, CNN etc reach hundreds of millions.

Why, exactly? Why is this necessary anymore?

Some say, “we need our own media.” We have our own media, here. There is no reason millions of people can’t read here and in similar places.

Yes, this question is like one from a kid, but that’s the point. What has to happen is for people to click here instead of there. It’s that simple.

It must be the dazzling entertainment and high production values that hold the audiences elsewhere, the way the blue light in a bug zapper attracts flies. Shit does the same thing.

Yes, and yet. I can think of one good reason. We're flying well under the radar here. If this place became popular enough, forces much stronger and wealthier than Ron Unz would intervene and deplatform us. (And how many other Ron Unzes are there anyway?)

You and I know full well that this has happened to other sites. It's idle to argue about how deserving they were: the crux of the matter is that we most certainly do not enjoy free speech in this country.

All TPTB will have to do is to excerpt some choice pronouncements from the archives here--and God knows we have quite the assortment--and all right-thinking people will rise up as one and demand the deplatforming.

But we all know it'll never even need to come to that. PayPal and ISPs and Domain Registrars will all "do the right thing" long before it comes to that.

There is a great shortage of affordable used “beater” pickup trucks. As late as 2005 or so a thousand bucks would get a running truck, $25oo a fairly nice one. No more. Any decent truck is five grand around here now.

Two reasons. One was Obama’s cash for clunkers deal in which idiot suburban white cunts took $4000 for all manner of decent vehicles to trade them in for Hondas even when they were worth more.

    • Replies: @Cloudbuster
For diesel pickups and semis, the introduction of Diesel Exhaust Fluid for SCR systems has made older trucks valued. DEF is solely added to combat "climate change." It's corrosive, it doesn't help the engine run any better, and most of the trucks are designed to not run or run at greatly reduced performance if you let the reservoir run dry.

There are "delete" kits you can get, but some people just don't want to deal with the hassle and the voiding of the warranty.
    , @Marty
Here in the BA, I never see a black guy in a pickup. However, I used to know a SF rapper named Primo who drove one. It was a '70's Chevy with the top of the cab ripped off. Primo was a 6'5" block of chiseled marble who played in our regular basketball game in Berkeley in the mid-90's. He was getting his B.A. in English at the age of 37. One time, a skinny Jewish law student from Beverly Hills, who the brothas called "Goldstein," came into the gym waving a jewel box he got from a sidewalk sale on Telegraph. With all the black guys standing around he goes, "Hey Primo, I bought your album - 10 cents!"

On the contrary, King has pivoted and claimed it was tips he and another activist submitted after they whipped-up the brouhaha that led to the arrest of “The Real Killers” - you have to go quite a ways down in his Twitter feed to find the posts where he’s demagoging the supposed racial angle all to hell. The comments are full of zombies praising his good works - IF true, that he managed it without getting some poor white SOB in a red pickup truck shot for his trouble, it’s a miracle.

That will be how he and others paper-over the bigotry, “Hey, we got the real guys so no harm!”
  41. A white father was taking his 14 year old son on a day trip to London a few days ago, when he had “an altercation” with a black train passenger, who stabbed him multiple times (to death) in front of his child.

It’s funny, but none of the UK papers have suggested that “the image of a black man suddenly attacking a white family raised questions about whether the stabbing had been racially motivated“.

  42. @Southie Mossback
But white guys just dragged a black guy( fellow felon) to his death in ‘98! In Texas!! How can you doubt the media.

I have been a regular reader of this blog for several years, and intellectually believe that the notion of a “hate crime” is deeply flawed and pernicious, and has been promulgated by malevolent people. And yet the idea of a “hate crime” is STILL attached in my mind to that. He’s done them well. Get him “accidentally” released and fly him to whichever Caribbean island holds their bank account, and give him an ATM card. He’s been in prison so presumably he can manage living with black people by now.

  43. @Anonymous
OT Steve but combining your recent topics of Watsoning Watson and Google gaslighting:

If you start to type in the title of Watson's book Avoid Boring People, Duckduckgo autocompletes it as the top choice as soon as you get to "avoid bo." Bing has it fourth on the list when you get to "avoid bor." But Google never autocompletes it, even after you type the whole thing. When you get as far as "avoid boring" it has a lot of autocomplete suggestions, but none of them the right one, then all suggestions disappear at "avoid boring p."

Not at all. A couple years ago a 5-6 year old boy was shot dead on the south side of Chicago in a drive by. The shooters were targeting the boy's father IIRC, and fairly soon after it was clear that the father knew who it was that was shot his son, but he wouldn't tell the police. This case was all over the local media for a few weeks but eventually went away as media people don't care to think any deeper about the larger issue at hand.

Gang loyalty comes before everything with many of these people.

  46. The real insidiousness of this type of reporting is that the NYT won’t directly and clearly report that a non-white suspect has been identified and charged, if they follow it up at all. Instead, the article reporting on the conclusion of this case will probably mention gun control, gun violence, etc. to make it fit the narrative. At the end of the article, they’ll devote one or two sentences to who the suspect was and possible motive. Ultimately, most people will forget about the details and just remember “that black girl who was killed by a white man in Texas.”

  47. And in the five boroughs …

A New York City lawyer has been arrested for allegedly terrorizing women in at least five groping attacks from Harlem to the Lower East Side, according to the New York Post. Attorney Ra’Shaun Kelley was arrested on Friday for a two-month long attacking spree that allegedly occurred in late 2014 and early 2015. According to police, Kelley followed women into the lobbies or elevators of their apartment buildings where he’d attack them and try to pull off their clothing. NYPD’s Special Victims Squad was able to arrest the attorney four years after the attacks due to a reported break in the investigation. Kelley, a native of Brooklyn, described himself on social media as an avid poker and chess player who believed in the power of aggression. “Whether its poker, chess, or life, the victory goes to the aggressive,” Kelley wrote in a 2010 Facebook post.

  51. @Dan Hayes
The Daily Mail reported the first (and false) part of the story. I'm wondering if it will report the second (and true) part. With the demise of Paul Dacre as editor, the DM seems to be in the hands of bubblehead Piers Morgan. Tom Wolfe presaged Morgan as the unscrupulous English journalist in Bonfire of the Vanities. (BTW, Wolfe really went overboard for the Irish in Bonfire as exemplified in his "Talkin' Irish" chapter.)

Rendering the devil its due, today’s Daily Mail reported the suspect was black; so contrary to my initial expectations, it did come true. But recently the DM has been heavily engaged in playing the race card, i.e. heavily reporting purported instances of blacks being discriminated against. I attribute this reportage to the demise of Paul Dacre and the concomitant rise of Piers Morgan.

  54. The problem with white defendants is that almost none of them are great in any way. Except for their great intake of various substances.

I just recycled the Dec 27 St Paul Pioneer Press tonight, and noticed two crime stories on the same page in which the perpetrators were white and the victims Asian.

Three guys drove from Indiana to rob a 79-year-old Korean-born widow that two of them had done odd jobs for. Those two didn’t realize the third guy was on meth until right before the operation, upon which they ditched him. But he wanted to stay involved, so he went to her home, robbed her again, and beat her to death.

Another punk was bicycling and saw an unattended Toyota Highlander parked and running. The owner was inside with his key fob, and thought it was safe. Evidently not. The biker drove off with it and managed to shake police. They found him an hour later in a nearby suburb. He had totaled the thing into a tree and was thrown through the windshield to his death.

(I’m surprised St Paul’s Hmongs even buy Toyotas anymore, after one of them went to prison for a fatal accident. He was freed some time later when it was shown clearly to have been Toyota’s fault and not his.)

I don’t know if the second case involved substance use, but the kid was in court earlier that month for kicking a stranger’s front door in. He confessed to the man that he was coming down from a meth high, and thought someone was chasing him.

Anyway, using cases like these to illustrate “white supremacism” would backfire.

Washington screamed at her children to “get down!” as bullets ripped through the car, CNN reported. The panicked mother threw herself on her eldest daughter sitting in the passenger seat, but was unable to shield her three daughters in the back seat.

When the shooting stopped, a voice cried out from the back seat: “Mama, Jazmine’s not moving...she’s not talking.” When Washington turned around, seven-year-old Jazmine was dead, shot in the head. Washington herself was wounded. A red pickup truck sped off, and the shooter got away.

    ....

Some say, "we need our own media." We have our own media, here. There is no reason millions of people can't read here and in similar places.

Yes, this question is like one from a kid, but that's the point. What has to happen is for people to click here instead of there. It's that simple.

It must be the dazzling entertainment and high production values that hold the audiences elsewhere, the way the blue light in a bug zapper attracts flies. Shit does the same thing.

We have our own media, here. There is no reason millions of people can’t read here and in similar places.

Yes, and yet. I can think of one good reason. We’re flying well under the radar here. If this place became popular enough, forces much stronger and wealthier than Ron Unz would intervene and deplatform us. (And how many other Ron Unzes are there anyway?)

You and I know full well that this has happened to other sites. It’s idle to argue about how deserving they were: the crux of the matter is that we most certainly do not enjoy free speech in this country.

All TPTB will have to do is to excerpt some choice pronouncements from the archives here–and God knows we have quite the assortment–and all right-thinking people will rise up as one and demand the deplatforming.

But we all know it’ll never even need to come to that. PayPal and ISPs and Domain Registrars will all “do the right thing” long before it comes to that.

It’s also possible the woman gave a fake description because she was worried fingering gang members would result in more violence. Can’t blame her too much for that.

But the "blue eyes" part, that was going a bit too far. Noticing eye color in a passing vehicle? I'm sure the police picked up on that.

It’s possible the police knew who they were looking for and released false description to put the perps at ease.

A red pickup truck sped off, and the shooter got away.

    ....

Has the reward been retracted yet? Is it still hate? Enquiring minds want to know

There was probably an iron-clad stipulation that anyone apprehended under the terms of the reward had to be WHITE. Remember, Whitey $$$ is always mighty – – – otherwise, no dice! The mother probably changed her description of the shooter after the cops leaned on her and threatened her with charges for faking witness evidence in a murder investigation. Everybody in the ghetto wants to be the next Tawana Brawley, collecting Big Time on the next phony Whitey did-it hoax.

If shooter is black this incident will be memory holed at warp speed. But really the mother should be prosecuted for giving a lying ass desperation of the shooter. And few blacks drive red PU trucks. But....have to see how this all pans out.

But really the mother should be prosecuted for giving a lying ass desperation of the shooter.

Why did she? Did she know the killer and fear ‘stitches for snitches’? Did ‘hate hoaxing’ become a common thing?

  81. My guess is that the black victims also knew it was gang related and decided to throw the police of the trail of the real perps by telling them the shooter was white. But now it looks like the gray lady and everyone else is getting busted so maybe they’ll say the black suspect is a “white negro” and lighten the skin tone on his photo.

You misunderstand me. If this was a gang related shooting, the woman may have known exactly who it was or had a short list of possible perps. I mean, maybe the woman gave the cops a name, and the cops released a fake composite sketch so the person they were actually looking for didn’t get freaked and go into hiding. I don’t know if cops do that, but I can imagine they might.

  83. Anon[162] • Disclaimer says:

Vox is going to have to update this above-the-fold article today:

Why the death of a 7-year-old black girl became a national story about race and violence
Jazmine Barnes was killed when a white man fired into her family’s car. Her family believes the attack was racially motivated.
    By P.R. Lockhart

Ms. Lockhart is a 25ish graduate of Duke (psych, journalism, media), who at Vox “writes about race: how it intersects with gender, sexuality, and economic status”: so race and intersects seem to be the key words.

It’s been nearly one week since Jazmine Barnes, a 7-year-old black girl, was killed when a white gunman fired into her mother’s car on December 30. As the hunt for the shooter continues, Barnes’s family and others have argued that the attack and her murder must be addressed as an act of racism.

Barnes’s death has resonated with so many not just because of her youth, but also because of what the nature of the attack — a white man shooting through a car window at a black family — may say about the state of racism in America.

In regards to Barnes’s case, Merritt, the civil rights attorney, has no doubt that the family was targeted because they were black. “We want to emphasize the racial nature of the attack and that hate-crime charges are appropriate,” he told the Washington Post this week.

Merrritt, Esq., has a long history of tangling with Texas authorities over race cases, although he cannot practice there. Think Jesse Jackson with a J.D.:

Attorney Lee Merritt Clears His Name After Two-Year ‘Witch Hunt’ by Texas Committee, Demands Public Apology
    https://atlantablackstar.com/2018/12/10/attorney-lee-merritt-clears-his-name-after-two-year-witch-hunt-by-texas-committee-demands-public-apology/

Merritt has commented on the unexpected turn of events on Twitter:

Sean King is now saying that blue-eyed white guy was there in a pickup truck, but the bullets came from a grassy knoll peopled by the black shooters.

Shaun is probably thinking, “Crap, I have to pay the reward to some jackass who snitched on a black guy. I was hoping it would be an investment in a story I could ride into glory.”

    • Replies: @RationalExpressions

Obviously, the men arrested don’t fit the description of multiple witnesses or the sketch. Initially, this fact made it difficult to accept the tip that resulted in these arrests.

So it was the imagined white guy’s fault for not catching the real killers sooner. He threw them off the trail by not existing.
  84. First, my heart is heavy that a young child was shot and killed. That is sad. But, last year in Buffalo, a seven month old child was shot and killed while on her grandmother’s porch. The 54 year old grandmother was also killed. Murder is still not solved. Oh, two other men, possibly the target of the shooting, were also shot and wounded. No description of the shooters provided. Another shooting at same house a week or two later. My point…dog bites man story.

I can't count the number of times I've seen news items about a black shooting victim in which the (black) suspect shot the "wrong person."

Always trying to kill the "ebil white racissss" but somehow always killing other blacks.
  93. @al-Gharaniq
The real insidiousness of this type of reporting is that the NYT won't directly and clearly report that a non-white suspect has been identified and charged, if they follow it up at all. Instead, the article reporting on the conclusion of this case will probably mention gun control, gun violence, etc. to make it fit the narrative. At the end of the article, they'll devote one or two sentences to who the suspect was and possible motive. Ultimately, most people will forget about the details and just remember "that black girl who was killed by a white man in Texas."

It's quite an effective news reporting tactic to let readers infer what they think they know while still being factually correct; I know Steve has called them out on it frequently, but there are other news outlets that are much better at it. VICE is chief among them, I personally love watching their reporting to see how they stay factually correct but still let the viewer infer what they want to say (but can't).

Someone needs to come up with a catchy name for this. It's not "fake news" since it's technically factually correct, but still presented in a way that lets the viewer infer a reality-divorced set of events.

    True Lies

“Deception” is what I normally use. You can definitely deceive people without telling any lies.

So is it safe to assume the mother of the deceased child is the person responsible for giving this obviously false description? (Obstruction?)

Would it be unsurprising to eventually find out that the mother either knows the shooter, or at least someone in the shooters vehicle?

Not at all. A couple years ago a 5-6 year old boy was shot dead on the south side of Chicago in a drive by. The shooters were targeting the boy’s father IIRC, and fairly soon after it was clear that the father knew who it was that was shot his son, but he wouldn’t tell the police. This case was all over the local media for a few weeks but eventually went away as media people don’t care to think any deeper about the larger issue at hand.

Gang loyalty comes before everything with many of these people.

    • Replies: @Buffalo Joe
Mike, two years ago in Cleveland a 5 month old girl, a three year old boy and a five year old boy were all shot and killed in separate shootings. That never made national news because the police shot and killed 13 year old Tamir Rice. Stick to the agenda.
  95. This morning, CNN and BBC are still not saying the suspects are black. BBC is still showing the composite sketch but not the suspect’s photos.

Technically Correct reporting, or TC for short.

    a white man ... driving a ... pickup truck

I predict that pickup trucks will be the next Confederate flag type issue: Ban them! They are racist! Blacks should not have to be subjected to the sight of pickup trucks just to go about their daily lives.

It will start with a keying campaign and ramp up to broken windows. Starbucks, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Apple will ban them from their parking lots.

First they came for the Hummers and I did nothing ...

Pickup trucks were banned at the upscale Atlanta apartment complex I lived in, back in the 1980s. Contractors in to do work sure, but actual residents were expected to drive respectable sedans.

That was before the SUV boom.

International, Years ago I had a Dodge Dakota pick up. I kept my two sedans in the garage and the pick up on a pad at the end of the drive, which upset a neighbor to the point that he offered to buy the truck from me. Two of my sons-in-law own pick ups. One is a Ford F250 and the other a Ford 150. Both trucks have four doors and the Lariat trim, which means $45k plus. Pick ups have come a long way.

It was probably in the rental agreement, but it seems unenforceable to me, unless there was a manned entrance to the parking lot.

    Here's something I found:

    https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/misc.legal.moderated/Bq6or7Vu0FA

"[FLORIDA] The board of directors representing The Eagles, a deed
restricted community in Odessa, was trying to keep A.J. Vizzi from
parking his Ford pickup truck in his home's driveway. HOA rules state
all trucks must be parked in a garage."

Judge renders declaratory judgment in favor of truck owner, says HOA must pay about $100,000 in legal fees.

In this case the restriction was probably in the HOA bylaws, which are restrictive covenants association with the real estate, so unless there was some sort of protected status to pickup driving, I'm not sure what the problem was.

She probably means when you're stopped at an intersection. Sometimes drivers look at each other then. There's usually a reason, but not always. Have you never experienced this? It's something experienced by most people who have driven a car.

Thanks for that compilation of NYT stories on the Jazmine Barnes shooting.

The catalog for TV’s NBC Nightly News is not as compelling, but it’s still informative. Anchor Lester Holt uses his erudition and Talented Tenth good looks to create an aura of authoritative trustworthiness. It’s a powerful package for instructing flyover country on the evils of badwhites.

Jazmine Barnes was shot on the morning of Sunday, Dec. 30th. CNN:

[Mother LaPorsha] Washington says she believes race played a role. The white pickup driver could clearly see “a black mother with four beautiful children, girls, in this car,” she said… A sketch of the suspect was compiled from descriptions from Jazmine’s mother and three sisters. It showed a white man in his 40s with a 5 o’clock shadow and a hoodie.

For whatever reason, NBC Nightly News’ website is nigh-impossible to search. From YouTube:
    * Dec. 31 — 1 min 38 sec“Manhunt Underway After Gunman Opens Fire On Family, Killing 7-Year-Old Girl”
    * Jan 1 — no story
    * Jan 2 — 1 min 15 sec “$50,000 Reward To Find Gunman Who Left 7-Year-Old Dead”
    * Jan 3 — 1 min 43 sec “Police Release Sketch In Hunt For Killer Of 7-Year-Old In ‘Unprovoked’ Attack”
    * Jan 4 — no story
    * Jan 5 — 1 min 6 sec “Community Calls For Justice For Jazmine Barnes, 7-Year-Old Killed In Texas”

There are about 18 minutes of News each evening. The white-murderer-black-victim aspect of this Texas drive-by shooting meant that it merited over 5% of available time for those 6 nights, making it about the fourth most important story, nationwide.

After tonight’s predictable grudging admission that the eyewitness identification was somewhat inaccurate (“white Hispanic black”), how much airtime will NBC’s SJW newshounds devote to further developments? As iSteve readers alone seem to know, to ask the question is to answer it.

If she was only afraid of the shooter, she could have told police that it happened so fast she didn't see anything. No, she helped stoke the media narrative that white people are evil. It's libel. She and the anti-white media should be accountable for constantly stoking hate. Imagine if the races were reversed and a Becky made the same charge and it was later found to be another white, and she knew it. White people have their lives ruined over a lot less.

For diesel pickups and semis, the introduction of Diesel Exhaust Fluid for SCR systems has made older trucks valued. DEF is solely added to combat “climate change.” It’s corrosive, it doesn’t help the engine run any better, and most of the trucks are designed to not run or run at greatly reduced performance if you let the reservoir run dry.

There are “delete” kits you can get, but some people just don’t want to deal with the hassle and the voiding of the warranty.

    • Replies: @Corn
Whoa. You’re expected to add DEF to diesel pickups?

I thought DEF was just for semis/box trucks etc. Commercial vehicles.
    , @Anonymous
Certain older diesel pickups in good condition are indeed valued, as are "Destroked" Ford Cummins conversions.

I once owned an older Chevy that had a 4-53 two cycle Detroit Diesel. All mechanical. It was a crude conversion but a lot of fun. The 53 Series,, unlike the 71s and 92s, wasn't really designed as a vehicle engine and crude spots included the straight vaned loud blower and governors that were iffy. I saw where someone built a DDEC IV, 4-53T with a Jake brake, if a quieter blower could be fitted it would be a hell of a truck with the right gears.

Rolling diesel standards back to pre-particulate-trap days would make life much simpler and decrease costs and hassle drastically but that won't happen.

Under current standards, I would not buy a new diesel pickup, I'd go for a propane or CNG conversion. Ford's gas engines have been troublesome but GM still has the LS fourth/fifth gen smallblock and Mopar has the hemi, decent engines: it's the newer many speed transmissions fitted for CAFE purposes that are more likely trouble.

If I were to build a "new old truck" I'd look at a DT466 conversion, a Ford Cummins or similar.
    , @Mr. Rational
Ignorant people spouting completely false shit in utter certainty is one of my pet peeves.

DEF is solely added to combat “climate change.”

It has nothing to do with climate change.  DEF contains urea, which breaks down into ammonia and CO2 under heat.  The ammonia provides hydrogen to regenerate NOx catalysts, which in a constant oxidizing environment (which diesel exhaust almost always is) have nothing to reduce the oxygen captured on their surfaces after freeing the nitrogen.  Without something to remove that oxygen, the catalyst saturates and stops capturing NOx.  Gasoline-engine vehicles operate around stoichiometric mixture and use a slightly rich mix to burn off oxygen after a lean phase which loads the NOx catalyst up.

DEF is all about reducing smog precursors.  The tuning required to get NOx down actually cuts efficiency and increases GHG emissions somewhat.

Stationary diesel engines (like large emergency generators) will have tanks of anhydrous ammonia to regenerate their NOx catalysts rather than using DEF.
  115. @Buzz Mohawk

I assume that Bing has just not (yet?) chosen to dedicate a lot of staff time to ideologically skewing esoteric search results the way that Google has. DDG has an explicitly libertarian ethos, supposedly.

It's pretty obvious that Google is totally evil. What's remarkable is that the others aren't, totally. At that level, can any of us really determine who or what they care about at DDG or Bing? They can't possibly be "the good guys," unless they're wearing white hats.

Here in the BA, I never see a black guy in a pickup. However, I used to know a SF rapper named Primo who drove one. It was a ’70’s Chevy with the top of the cab ripped off. Primo was a 6’5″ block of chiseled marble who played in our regular basketball game in Berkeley in the mid-90’s. He was getting his B.A. in English at the age of 37. One time, a skinny Jewish law student from Beverly Hills, who the brothas called “Goldstein,” came into the gym waving a jewel box he got from a sidewalk sale on Telegraph. With all the black guys standing around he goes, “Hey Primo, I bought your album – 10 cents!”

    * Jan 4 — no story

If she was only afraid of the shooter, she could have told police that it happened so fast she didn’t see anything. No, she helped stoke the media narrative that white people are evil. It’s libel. She and the anti-white media should be accountable for constantly stoking hate. Imagine if the races were reversed and a Becky made the same charge and it was later found to be another white, and she knew it. White people have their lives ruined over a lot less.

  132. >NYT obsessed

One of Orson Welles’ most affecting radio broadcasts was an outraged response to the severe beating by Southern police of a Northern black who had just returned from WWII and was traveling home through an unfamiliar cultural zone. He had yelled at the bus driver to accommodate a bathroom break and the Southern bus driver pulled the riot alarm. Welles, containing rage like Richard Burton did in certain performances, simply read the police report on the air. In his indignation he got the name of the town where it happened wrong and had to subsequently devote several more broadcasts to apologizing and correcting this because the wrong town was then flooded with angry letters.

how many articles did the NYT publish on that young white couple from Tennessee that were tortured and then burned alive by that group of blacks?

    ,

The NYT badly, badly, oh so badly, wants to have something, anything that involves a white on black crime that is within an order of magnitude of the sheer vile, ugliness, horror and evil of what those blacks did to Channon Christian and Christopher Newsome. There were certainly plenty of racial attacks on innocent blacks after reconstruction and into the early part of the 20th century, some no doubt quite nasty, some larger in scale (ex. Rosewood). But i've never heard of anything that monstrous.

And unfortunately for the NYT no such crimes exist--nothing even remotely in the ballpark--have occurred for them to trumpet.

If the details of Chistians\Newsome murders--what was done to those kids--was publicized, their narrative--the official minoritarian narrative--of saintly black victimization would be absoluted devasted. This is simply a crime that must not be named.

Those two didn't realize the third guy was on meth until right before the operation, upon which they ditched him.

(I'm surprised St Paul's Hmongs even buy Toyotas anymore, after one of them went to prison for a fatal accident. He was freed some time later when it was shown clearly to have been Toyota's fault and not his.)

I don't know if the second case involved substance use, but the kid was in court earlier that month for kicking a stranger's front door in. He confessed to the man that he was coming down from a meth high, and thought someone was chasing him.

Anyway, using cases like these to illustrate "white supremacism" would backfire.

The problem with white defendants is that almost none of them are great in any way.

Actors crave villain roles, which give great scope to display one’s actorly prowess. But these meaty crime-industry roles are today shut off from black male actors, who are relegated to TV “miscegenation commercials” playing roles as the bland house-husband chained to a dominant white woman.
Alternatively, there are demasculinized roles for black men, like this 30-second spot:

There is, however, no “The Klan”, there are a dozen or more groups calling themselves KKK this or that at any given time, they tend to come and go with fluidity.

It is still FAKE NEWS. Being “factually correct” is something only a neckbeard could genuinely care about.

First, my heart is heavy that a young child was shot and killed. That is sad. But, last year in Buffalo, a seven month old child was shot and killed while on her grandmother's porch. The 54 year old grandmother was also killed. Murder is still not solved. Oh, two other men, possibly the target of the shooting, were also shot and wounded. No description of the shooters provided. Another shooting at same house a week or two later. My point...dog bites man story.

I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen news items about a black shooting victim in which the (black) suspect shot the “wrong person.”

Sometimes it was driving by a house and shooting into the wrong address. Other times its shooting into the "wrong car" as in the latest.

David, an amazing amount of innocent bystander victims and victims whose eye contact “disrespected” the shooter.

In 2007, Denver Broncos Defensive Back Darrent Williams was killed in a drive by shooting after a New Year’s Eve party. It is commonly believed that the Crips who killed him were targeting his teammate Brandon Marshall and killed Williams by mistake.

But to civil rights activists, including Shaun[sic] King, who received the tip that led to the arrest, the race of the suspect did not upend the meaning of the case — for Jazmine’s family or for the country.

“We live in a time where somebody could do something like this based purely on hate or race,” he said on Sunday. “And that it turned out to not be the case I don’t think changes the devastating conclusion that people had thought something like that was possible.”

  174. Steve,

The links below are related the topic.

Trump’s Justice Department is mostly useless.
Until 2008, Bureau of Justice Statistics published an annual report, called National Crime Victimization Survey. It included two-variable statistics about race of victims and race of offenders.
See, for example, table 42 of the 2008 report
    https://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/cvus08.pdf
That table raised the ire of SJWs because it implied that white-on-black rape is close to nonexistent.
Starting with 2009 report, nothing was reported about the race of offenders.
    https://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/cv09.pdf
(For subsequent years, you replace cv09.pdf with cv10.pdf, cv11.pdf and so on)
Moreover, the 2008 is not accessible through the “Data Finder” page
    https://www.bjs.gov/latestreleases.cfm
not unlike certain books having been withdrawn from libraries in Orwell’s “1984” (or in the Soviet Bloc.)
How have we been doing since Donald Trump became President?
The 2016 report (published in 2017) has no data about race of offenders.
The 2017 report (i.e. the latest one) has only single-variable statistics about race of offenders.
Thus, one can find the percentage of Whites among rapists but one cannot find the percentage of Whites among rapists whose victims were Black.

We should loudly demand return to pre-2009 standards!

In addition, New York-based activist Shaun King – active in the Black Lives Matter movement – and civil rights attorney Lee Merritt have offered a $35,000 cash reward to help find the suspect.

Has the reward been retracted yet? Is it still hate? Enquiring minds want to know

On the contrary, King has pivoted and claimed it was tips he and another activist submitted after they whipped-up the brouhaha that led to the arrest of “The Real Killers” – you have to go quite a ways down in his Twitter feed to find the posts where he’s demagoging the supposed racial angle all to hell. The comments are full of zombies praising his good works – IF true, that he managed it without getting some poor white SOB in a red pickup truck shot for his trouble, it’s a miracle.

That will be how he and others paper-over the bigotry, “Hey, we got the real guys so no harm!”

I think we can safely call it Fake News (lying) by omission/dereliction of professional responsibility.

A red pickup truck sped off, and the shooter got away.

    ....

Certain older diesel pickups in good condition are indeed valued, as are “Destroked” Ford Cummins conversions.

I once owned an older Chevy that had a 4-53 two cycle Detroit Diesel. All mechanical. It was a crude conversion but a lot of fun. The 53 Series,, unlike the 71s and 92s, wasn’t really designed as a vehicle engine and crude spots included the straight vaned loud blower and governors that were iffy. I saw where someone built a DDEC IV, 4-53T with a Jake brake, if a quieter blower could be fitted it would be a hell of a truck with the right gears.

Rolling diesel standards back to pre-particulate-trap days would make life much simpler and decrease costs and hassle drastically but that won’t happen.

Under current standards, I would not buy a new diesel pickup, I’d go for a propane or CNG conversion. Ford’s gas engines have been troublesome but GM still has the LS fourth/fifth gen smallblock and Mopar has the hemi, decent engines: it’s the newer many speed transmissions fitted for CAFE purposes that are more likely trouble.

If I were to build a “new old truck” I’d look at a DT466 conversion, a Ford Cummins or similar.

It seems “back in the day” pickup trucks were strictly work vehicles: one didn’t own one unless you were a farmer or contractor, and even then if you had the means you’d own a car in addition to the truck. Vox is going to have to update this above-the-fold article today:

Why the death of a 7-year-old black girl became a national story about race and violence
Jazmine Barnes was killed when a white man fired into her family’s car. Her family believes the attack was racially motivated.
    By P.R. Lockhart

Ms. Lockhart is a 25ish graduate of Duke (psych, journalism, media), who at Vox "writes about race: how it intersects with gender, sexuality, and economic status": so race and intersects seem to be the key words.

    https://dy00k1db5oznd.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/pr-lockhart.jpg

Merritt has commented on the unexpected turn of events on Twitter:

    https://twitter.com/MeritLaw/status/1081830902659977217

Sean King is now saying that blue-eyed white guy was there in a pickup truck, but the bullets came from a grassy knoll peopled by the black shooters.

    https://twitter.com/MeritLaw/status/1081832621846552576

    https://twitter.com/shaunking/status/1081886516048089088

Shaun is probably thinking, "Crap, I have to pay the reward to some jackass who snitched on a black guy. I was hoping it would be an investment in a story I could ride into glory."

Obviously, the men arrested don’t fit the description of multiple witnesses or the sketch. Initially, this fact made it difficult to accept the tip that resulted in these arrests.

So it was the imagined white guy’s fault for not catching the real killers sooner. He threw them off the trail by not existing.

I'm noticing that the post-arrest Jazmine Barnes narrative is taking a weird twist: Several stories are emphasizing, even in the headline, that she was shot "by mistake." This strikes me as a strange angle to be stressing. "It's O.K., they didn't mean to kill her; they meant to kill someone else." Previously, when the killer was presumed to be white, it was hate crime all the way, the whitey devil seeking out black children to kill.

Anon, it is standard narrative in the liberal press, for example the 7 month old black girl shot and killed last year in Buffalo was killed by mistake. Two black guys standing on the porch with her were shot and wounded. Some mistake.

Mike, two years ago in Cleveland a 5 month old girl, a three year old boy and a five year old boy were all shot and killed in separate shootings. That never made national news because the police shot and killed 13 year old Tamir Rice. Stick to the agenda.

My relation worked at the local BMW dealer some 25 years ago. A customer would come in every three years or so. He would buy the long wheelbase 700 series and have the shop take out all the seats save the driver’s.
Then he would use the car to drive hay bales around his horse farm.
    True story.

Rolls Royce had many requests for a pickup version of its big sedan and turned them down but there was a shop in California that did a fair number of conversions on them. A few even made their way back to England, to Rolls’ chagrin.

The arrest of Jazmine Barnes’s evil white killer was going to be the opening shot of the 2020 campaign.

Stationary diesel engines (like large emergency generators) will have tanks of anhydrous ammonia to regenerate their NOx catalysts rather than using DEF.

how many articles did the NYT publish on that young white couple from Tennessee that were tortured and then burned alive by that group of blacks?

Rosewood). But i’ve never heard of anything that monstrous.

And unfortunately for the NYT no such crimes exist–nothing even remotely in the ballpark–have occurred for them to trumpet.

If the details of Chistians\Newsome murders–what was done to those kids–was publicized, their narrative–the official minoritarian narrative–of saintly black victimization would be absoluted devasted. This is simply a crime that must not be named.

I can't count the number of times I've seen news items about a black shooting victim in which the (black) suspect shot the "wrong person."

Sometimes it was driving by a house and shooting into the wrong address. Other times its shooting into the "wrong car" as in the latest.

"The police sketch looked like the kind of cruelly handsome white actor who gets cast in home security TV commercials as a burglar."

Actors crave villain roles, which give great scope to display one's actorly prowess. But these meaty crime-industry roles are today shut off from black male actors, who are relegated to TV "miscegenation commercials" playing roles as the bland house-husband chained to a dominant white woman.
Alternatively, there are demasculinized roles for black men, like this 30-second spot:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_amA5uMXtcI

Burglars are either “cruelly handsome” or clumsy dolts like the Joe Pesci/Daniel Stern duo in Home Alone.

    * Jan 1 — no story
    * Jan 2 — 1 min 15 sec "$50,000 Reward To Find Gunman Who Left 7-Year-Old Dead"
    * Jan 3 — 1 min 43 sec "Police Release Sketch In Hunt For Killer Of 7-Year-Old In 'Unprovoked’ Attack"
    * Jan 4 — no story

“By mistake” means the victim was a civilian bystander and not associated with gang culture.

Now its all just a big mistake. The killers made a “mistake” … they had intended to shoot another group of blacks. The victims “made a mistake”, but had just been shot, so understandable.

Now the argument is that the white guy in the red truck we there and real, but he was just a bystander.

Shawn King is proud to have furthered justice.

“By mistake” is code for “victim is not criminal”. We don’t need to unpack that. Why would anyone assume that black victims were involved with crime?

What we have is an unarticulated assumption that black on black crime is just part of Black culture. True that.

The “innocent victim” is still essential to keep this story from slipping back into the depressing gang narrative.

Its still a big deal to have a sympathetic victim. The least aware are still happy to have a murder cleared, and to be able to sympathize for a victim instead of the uninspiring criminal justice reform which is inherently depressing.

Agree, and this tracks perfectly with foregoing racial grievance logic. Only white people have agency and are capable of hate crime. If you look at defenses of laþino corruption and crime there was this bizarre naivete that somehow say the Maquiladora murders were both awful and beyond analysis.

The NYT is nothing more than an enemy propaganda outlet and should be treated as such.

Yes, changes are being made and there are some problems.

    Thanks for mentioning it.

LOL!!!! And may God help us all if LaPorsha works as an affirmative-action nuclear power plant operator.

I think the WP and NYT’s would easily increase their subscription rates by tenfold if they reported on real stories like LaPorsha and allowed a lightly moderated comment section like this one on iSteve. When I get home from work I look forward to reading iSteve with so many smart and hilarious commenters like you to put a stamp of reality on this B.S. for a good laugh.

  240. @Mr McKenna

LaPorsha was Facebook friends with the murderer.

Now something's wrong with just bein' friendly?? What's even wrong with you--we're supposed to be building bridges, not walls up in here. And besides, just as it's hard to tell blacks apart in the dark, it's hard to tell if they're white or not in all this blinding sunlight we has. So it was an honest mistake on the lady's part and I'll thank y'all to stop casting aspersions like you all superior.

    LOL!!! Enjoyed reading that!

I must say I don't fully understand the one-per-60-minute Agree/(Disagree/LOL/Troll) button policy. I do understand limiting it in general, but why not (e.g.) 5 or 10 'Agrees' per 24-hour window? As is, the policy disincentivizes use of 'Agree' by those who only check Unz.com once a day.

It will be interesting to see what the perp actually looks like.

The new sketch, published on Thursday, was compiled from testimony by Ms Washington and two of her daughters, aged 13 and 15, who were in the car at the time.

Alxis Dilbert, the 15-year-old, told a local news channel that she saw the suspect’s face.

“You know when you’re driving and you look in someone’s car and you make eye contact? It was like that,” she told ABC13.

The MSM's crime reporting has really fallen down in recent decades - in the States and in Europe. The combination of being too lazy and scared to grasp the PC nettle combined with the dramatic thinning out of the ranks of real reporters has devastated the trade.

Killings frequently are reported as random, inexplicable incidents as if humans bounced off each other like billiard balls in a game being played by a God that had deprived us of agency.

The black guys who actually did it have a pretty good defense now. Their lawyers will say the eyewitnesses identified a white man as the shooter.

Can we vote that remark the best iSteve inside joke so far in 2019?

If you’re thinking of the Obama Beer Summit incident, you’re giving me too much credit. I said “Cambridge” only because Steven Pinker works in Cambridge (i.e. at Harvard).

The new editor of the daily mail is Geordie Greig, not Piers Morgan.

    Cowboy shaw:

Piers Morgan is the Editor-at-Large (US) of MailOnline, the world’s largest English newspaper website.

Where’s the bottom half of that “15”?

Oh, wait… it’s not 15. It’s what Bill was referring to as what the meaning of “is” is.

“Morning coffee run” sounds oh so more sophisticated than “Getting breakfast at McDonald’s” don’t you think? Although to be honest you can get decent coffee now at Mickey D’s.

I don’t know about the quality, but the fact that it’s hot enough to get sued over is great. It means I can put in half a dozen creamers and it’ll still be warm.

It also helps if one of them is a flavored one, swiped from Superamerica or the bank.

"Someone needs to come up with a catchy name for this. It’s not “fake news” since it’s technically factually correct, but still presented in a way that lets the viewer infer a reality-divorced set of events."

Suppressio veri and suggestio falsi would have done in a more literate age.

Dan Hayes - AFAIK Piers Morgan is just a columnist - the Mail is now in the hands of a pro-Remain nonentity called Geordie Greig. It's now the "Daily May".

    YetAnotherAnon:

Piers Morgan is not just another Daily Mail columnist, he’s the Editor-at-Large (US) of MailOnline, the world’s largest English newspaper website. Some combination of Morgan and Greig account for the MailOnline‘s recent marked change. Perhaps Greig’s recent addition have unleashed the release of Morgan’s previously suppressed editorial proclivities!

Morgan failed on US television. Unfortunately he now seems to be going strong on Blighty TV.
