  10. Anon[111] • Disclaimer says:

I’ve noticed that the attempt to substitute they/them/their for singular pronouns for gender whatzit people has not been going that smoothly. Yes, when someone like this Summer Taylor has chosen to use they pronouns the media completely buys into to. But it seems to require every article in which the person is involved to include an awkward “Taylor, who prefered the pronouns they/them, …” sentence up top, making for clunky writing.

But that isn’t the end of it. If you read such articles closely, you often find that there is a concerted attempt, after the first use of they, to avoid using pronouns altogether in sentences where the gender whatzit person is the antecedent. There is an overuse of complete restatements of the person’s name, where normally you would use a pronoun — I think there is a computational linguistics thesis in there somewhere.

The reason the they pronouns are avoided is that if you just go for it and use they everywhere the reader gets caught at the pronoun, has to recenter and think and look back to make sure that the they refers to singular person, and it makes for a choppy and confusing reading experience, as you will find from less edited posts on websites that buy in 100 percent to theyism.

The pronoun revolution is an example of an idea that was not road tested before adoption. I hate to say it, but the adoption of altogether new pronouns like xhe/xher/xheir would be easier to deal with in print (but not in speech). On the other hand, making average people feel awkward is probably a win for the revolutionaries.

It is not meant to go smoothly - it is meant to humiliate you.

Instead of 'they', use 'it'. When gender dysphoriacs try to humiliate you, you dehumanize them with 'it'.

Another problem is that “They” in this case refers to one person. It is singular. It takes the verb “is”, not “are”. But no one who takes the pronoun thing seriously seems able to grasp that.

    , @bomag
    @Anon

    Well said.

Sometime back, NPR had an English(?) prof. from Berkeley who carefully explained that "they" has always been able to refer to a single person, so the current insanity is okay. Sounded to me like the usual abuse we get from experts in service to the Narrative; in this case, a nominal group that has dwindled to one person can be referred to as "they", but it seems more of an idiomatic thing that helps the language flow.

So basically he did NOT commit the same crime as James Fields. Fields was being attacked by a crowd and was trying to get away from the crowd. The fat grossly obese woman that he pushed with his car while trying to escape died of a heart attack. She was not hit.

This case was an immigrant fleeing the police who killed one and seriously injured another while trying to escape detention.

The gross gross miscarriage of justice in the Fields case will not be revisited on just an everyday murderer.

What James Fields did looks, to many of us, to be merely an accident. He was trying to get away from
rioters looking to smash his car (and drag him out and kill him?). In his panic, he ran into a protestor standing in the road.

What Delete did, if there was panic on his part, it certainly wasn't due to being chased by protestors. To get on that freeway, which had been closed by police, he had to have entered with difficulty, either driving up an off-ramp or sneak around police barriers. So his presence on that freeway, he had to have calculatingly done it. And, so, why? Why was he on that freeway? My speculation is, he was fleeing the scene of a crime he'd just committed somewhere, and he saw an opportunity to get onto a freeway beyond where the police were by driving wrong way up an off-ramp.

  15. To anybody out there, no matter what your beliefs are, I would recommend against protesting on the freeway. It isn’t safe.

    • Replies: @Almost Missouri
    @Intelligent Dasein

Happens to be illegal too. Not that anything is "illegal" for BLM "protesters" anymore.

The Minneapolis authorities did everyone a bad turn by accommodating the BLM rioters' illegal "protest" on Interstate 94. That normalized the idea that protesters have some kind of right to block roads, even dangerous highspeed roads. As too many incidents have shown, even when the police do close off the roads to accommodate protests, they are often scurrying to catch up with the protests' locations, which may not be clear to police. Assuming it is even true that this protest/roadblock was officially sanctioned, drivers have unintentionally slipped though before and will slip through again.

The protesters' half-assed roadblock aggravated matters. It was insufficient to stop traffic, but it did prevent the driver from seeing the pedestrians and prevented the pedestrians from seeing the oncoming car.

Tennessee and a few other deplorable states have passed laws shielding drivers from liability when when protesters block roads. By a strange coincidence, they are not having problems with protest-roadblocks.

The vast majority of major cities have bypass freeway routes. And because Hair is such a big factor these days, my sweet BBQ with yams Stacey Abrams has an edge over Kama Sutra Harris. Stacey doesn't artificially straighten her hair. Really, we need some genotyping -- hell, let's go full genome sequencing -- to pick a winner here. Saw a recent pic of Michelle O going natural with the hair; this may be a trend. Why doesn't Meg Markle lose street cred due to her straightened 'do? Let's let the science predict phenotypical hair type.

And BTW, who were the intended customers of those Uigher hair extensions recently confiscated?

The Atlanta mayor got in a good effort today by condemning the tragic killing of an innocent eight-year-old in Atlanta, so Stacey had better check her six (as I'm so fond of doing).

#CancelHamilton sweeps the internet with calls for musical to be AXED after its debut on Disney+ over criticism of the founding father for his role in slave trade

That fact that Biden hasn’t picked a veep indicates the selection process is going very badly for the Dems. Every choice has massive baggage. (Exactly like their top pick, Biden.) I suspect they’re finding so many skeletons in closets that they can’t stomach it.

I also suspect the selection committee is thinking of all the candidates as potential president in case Biden checks out, and they’re gagging at everybody. The Dems don’t have a potential second banana who is black/female who isn’t a lying nutjob with extreme politics. Harris and Warren are relentless liars. Voters hate that. The only reason the Dems rallied behind Biden was because he was the best they could do to summon up a normie.

The Dems also have another problem. If they give way and pick Harris or another black woman, and Biden makes it full term and then refuses a second term, a screechy black woman extremist who demands to be anointed as the Dem candidate for 2024 will lose against almost any Republican candidate in 2024. The Dems would have to dump the black woman and pick a normie white man to have a chance of winning. That fight will get old-line party Dems labelled as racists, and the party would implode. The Dems are on their last legs before party reaches Armageddon.

In reality, their only good pick for Veep is one of their white male govs, such as Tim Walz. But he’d never get it because he’d make Biden look stupid.

when the driver clearly stopped and only drove away when his car was attacked by protesters.

They also uncritically quote some guy who says the car drove at the protesters when clearly from the video it turned AWAY from the main group of protesters. This is supported by the fact that the people who got hit got hit on the shoulder and then flew through the air and landed in the middle of the highway. Why ? because that’s the direction the car was moving before it hit them.

Once a car is stopped it is surrounded by the mob making it impossible to not run into someone in front of you if you have to get out of trouble such as people beating on the car or shoving a gun in your face. It looks like the driver did exactly what this poorly laid out obstacle course was designed to do; funnel people into a kill box, only it was not the driver who got killed but the idiots that were milling around looking at their cell phones. I would say they got what they richly deserved.

Happens to be illegal too. Not that anything is “illegal” for BLM “protesters” anymore.

The Minneapolis authorities did everyone a bad turn by accommodating the BLM rioters’ illegal “protest” on Interstate 94. That normalized the idea that protesters have some kind of right to block roads, even dangerous highspeed roads. As too many incidents have shown, even when the police do close off the roads to accommodate protests, they are often scurrying to catch up with the protests’ locations, which may not be clear to police. Assuming it is even true that this protest/roadblock was officially sanctioned, drivers have unintentionally slipped though before and will slip through again.

The protesters’ half-assed roadblock aggravated matters.

Former Georgia State Rep. Stacey Abrams had 66 edits in the past three weeks, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren had 22, and Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar had 4.

The activity has mostly focused on cleaning up portions of Harris’ record as California Attorney General that contradict her claims of being a “progressive prosecutor.”

Removed are mentions of her decision to not prosecute then-CEO of OneWest Stephen Mnuchin for alleged mortgage fraud-related crimes in 2013. Also removed a section on her support of prosecutors in Orange County who engaged in misconduct.

In addition, the editor removed a 2003 quote from Harris when she was running against then-San Francisco District Attorney Terence Hallinan.

“It is not progressive to be soft on crime,” she said at the time.”

    The back story of Acme:

back in the 80's, there was a brewery in Santa Rosa that sold some very good beer called "Acme." They had bought the name from the original Acme brewing.

Acme had received the contract to supply beer for US troops in the South Pacific, which it did. Except: the beer wasn't held cold in shipment, and arrived variously ruined or skunked for the soldiers and sailors, most of whom had no experience with the brand.

This killed Acme beer in the post-war era, and led to the name, which means peak, to symbolize the worst sort of misleading and crappy products.

The Santa Rosa brewery later went out of business. I still have the T-shirt.

Of course, it doesn’t say anything about a former two-term President running for VP. But he could only fill out however much of Biden’s term remained; he couldn’t ever run for a presidential term again. Either way, I’d expect some sort of constitutional challenge from the Republicans.

when the driver clearly stopped and only drove away when his car was attacked by protesters.
    https://twitter.com/RealTimeRedPill/status/1279527039364747265

They also uncritically quote some guy who says the car drove at the protesters when clearly from the video it turned AWAY from the main group of protesters. This is supported by the fact that the people who got hit got hit on the shoulder and then flew through the air and landed in the middle of the highway. Why ? because that's the direction the car was moving before it hit them.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jtXAP06qzA&feature=youtu.be
    ( via : https://heavy.com/news/2020/07/dawit-kelete/ )

This information was available to the reporters when they wrote the story and surely by the time they updated it Sunday afternoon. But of course... why mention what's actually in the videos when you can instead just report what the protesters say.

(i don't know how adding this info would make it less depressing... )

The goal was simply to turn it into another “white surpemacist on peaceful protestors” attack. That’s first responses on Jack’s Prolefeed when someone posted the video. I've noticed that the attempt to substitute they/them/their for singular pronouns for gender whatzit people has not been going that smoothly. Yes, when someone like this Summer Taylor has chosen to use they pronouns the media completely buys into to. But it seems to require every article in which the person is involved to include an awkward "Taylor, who prefered the pronouns they/them, ..." sentence up top, making for clunky writing.

But that isn't the end of it. If you read such articles closely, you often find that there is a concerted attempt, after the first use of they, to avoid using pronouns altogether in sentences where the gender whatzit person is the antecedent. There is an overuse of complete restatements of the person's name, where normally you would use a pronoun -- I think there is a computational linguistics thesis in there somewhere.

So he started to turn left, perhaps aiming at a gap between protestors, but he was going too fast and ran straight, I presume, in to Summer.

Oddly the second figure, presumably Love, appears to move to her right somewhat more directly in to line with the oncoming car. This can be seen on the slow-mo clip. Was she so befuddled as to think she would master a speeding Jag?

Replies: @Je Suis Omar Mateen, @Ben tillman, @bomag

One of the problems that these drivers face is that you cannot safely backup to get out of trouble. Cars closing in from behind and people walking behind the car make retreating more difficult than going forward. This means there is only one way out. #CancelHamilton sweeps the internet with calls for musical to be AXED after its debut on Disney+ over criticism of the founding father for his role in slave trade

In May, Lin-Manuel Miranda issued an apology to fans of Hamilton for the Broadway show's failure to publicly denounce systemic racism sooner. The 40-year-old playwright and actor also affirmed the show's support for the Black Lives Matter movement.
He began his short Twitter statement by pointing out how quickly the show was to respond to previous crises and incidents of racism and hatred. The popular musical debuted on Disney+ streaming platform on Friday.

Maybe they can re-write the script to make it seem that Burr killed Hamilton because Hamilton was a racist. Burr himself had a “newly discovered” black family. (Actually East Indian but apparently E. Indian slotted in as “black” in the early 19th century American racial scheme so the illegitimate children of his E. Indian housemaid lived and married as part of the Philadelphia “black” community).

I attended the 1985 graduation ceremony for UNC-Charlotte at the original coliseum on Independence Blvd. (my sister was in that year's class). The recently elected Republican Gov. James Martin gave the commencement address. He had succeeded Hunt who had served the allowed two terms. Early in his speech Martin's microphone started to malfunction. A technician came on stage and tried to repair it, but after a few minutes the Governor was instructed to move to another mic a few feet to his left. He stepped to the spare mic and said something along the lines of, "I guess this will be OK, unaccustomed as I am to moving to the left..." The crowd roared with laughter and we were eating out of his hand from that moment on. That actually wasn't the most memorable moment of the afternoon, though, at least not for me. At one point the dean had recognized graduates as a group by their fields of study. When he called out the nursing students a crowd member yelled out 'Nasty Nurses'!, which was a popular porn film of that era. The crowd roared with laughter at that line as well. Well, except for my grandma who had no idea what was going on.

What James Fields did looks, to many of us, to be merely an accident. He was trying to get away from
rioters looking to smash his car (and drag him out and kill him?). In his panic, he ran into a protestor standing in the road.

What Delete did, if there was panic on his part, it certainly wasn’t due to being chased by protestors. To get on that freeway, which had been closed by police, he had to have entered with difficulty, either driving up an off-ramp or sneak around police barriers. So his presence on that freeway, he had to have calculatingly done it. And, so, why? Why was he on that freeway? My speculation is, he was fleeing the scene of a crime he’d just committed somewhere, and he saw an opportunity to get onto a freeway beyond where the police were by driving wrong way up an off-ramp.

That fact that Biden hasn't picked a veep indicates the selection process is going very badly for the Dems. Every choice has massive baggage. (Exactly like their top pick, Biden.) I suspect they're finding so many skeletons in closets that they can't stomach it.

I also suspect the selection committee is thinking of all the candidates as potential president in case Biden checks out, and they're gagging at everybody. The Dems don't have a potential second banana who is black/female who isn't a lying nutjob with extreme politics.

But he'd never get it because he'd make Biden look stupid.

Also, maybe he was high and/or confused.

  157. @Anon

Sometime back, NPR had an English(?) prof. from Berkeley who carefully explained that “they” has always been able to refer to a single person, so the current insanity is okay. the big decision for Kamala Harris will be when she sets the media in motion to declare Joe to be suffering from dementia and oust him from the presidency. Doing it before the election enables her to win the election on her own and gain total power and legitimacy. Waiting until after is safer and takes advantage of Biden doing all the work. The 2nd option is just not the grand slam, high gain, gamble of the first.

    Replies: @Hibernian, @Diversity Heretic

She will engineer Biden’s removal from office after January 20, 2023. That way she can serve out the balance of his term and still be eligible to be elected to two terms on her own. She will not have to leave office 2033, assuming the Constitution hasn’t been amended or interpreted to permit presidential terms for life.

He was definitely gunning for them (I mean, the two of them).

That's not what i take from the video. He was probably trying to turn away (to the left, back into the road) from the protestors and these two were the stragglers.

He could have plowed through 4 or 5 people just going straight and 10+ if he'd gone right a bit. So yes i guess it's possible he was after the two of them specifically but that seems highly unlikely. How would he know beforehand where in the group they would be?

Mind you: the fact that large stretches of freeway were closed to vehicles and opened to violent protesters is an outrage.

You can see that he was on the brakes from before he passed the van, through hiting them and until they landed.

It is apparent both in the speed of the car and in the fact that you can see the red light from the brakelights on the pavement, and in the dust cloud on the shoulder. And you can see the lights go out around the time the people land on the ground.

So there is no acceleration during the time that he saw them, only braking. Also, again, if he was looking to hit some people there were a lot more people to his right than to his left, AND if he'd wanted to hit these people he did hit, he didn't need to turn at all. He would have taken them out and a third person if he'd just gone straight.

Kamala Harris was one of the worst prosecutors in America. Kind of bizarre that she’d be picked in these anti-law enforcement times.
Really comes to show that being black (or, really, claiming to be black when you’re about 20% black) trumps all in the current Democratic Party.

Having seen photos of her father and mother I agree. Maybe 25% black at best and married to a white Jewish man. I think she will make blacks sit this one out. Dems should boost Stacy Abrams into that all important VP slot. Susan Rice could be some real poison.

Hair was taken from Uighurs in Chinese re-education camps. Black women use them. White women rarely

Federal authorities in New York on Wednesday seized a shipment of weaves and other beauty accessories suspected to be made out of human hair taken from people locked inside a Chinese internment camp.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials told The Associated Press that 13 tons (11.8 metric tonnes) of hair products worth an estimated $800,000 were in the shipment.

“The production of these goods constitutes a very serious human rights violation, and the detention order is intended to send a clear and direct message to all entities seeking to do business with the United States that illicit and inhumane practices will not be tolerated in U.S. supply chains,” said Brenda Smith, executive assistant commissioner of CBP’s Office of Trade.

This is the second time this year that CBP has slapped one of its rare detention orders on shipments of hair weaves from China, based on suspicions that people making them face human rights abuses. The orders are used to hold shipping containers at the U.S. ports of entry until the agency can investigate claims of wrongdoing.

The vast majority of major cities have bypass freeway routes. A technician came on stage and tried to repair it, but after a few minutes the Governor was instructed to move to another mic a few feet to his left. He stepped to the spare mic and said something along the lines of, “I guess this will be OK, unaccustomed as I am to moving to the left…” The crowd roared with laughter and we were eating out of his hand from that moment on. That actually wasn’t the most memorable moment of the afternoon, though, at least not for me. At one point the dean had recognized graduates as a group by their fields of study. When he called out the nursing students a crowd member yelled out ‘Nasty Nurses’!, which was a popular porn film of that era. The crowd roared with laughter at that line as well. I’m surprised he only hit two of these retards.

Fields didn't just get life imprisonment. He got 400 years. I guess sentencing guidelines in Virginia do not permit the convict to be sentenced to be chained to a rock and have his liver pecked out by an eagle.

Not yet. But the Ds who control the Virginia legislature are considering a measure to reduce assault on a police officer from a felony to a misdemeanor. So they are on the the right track. /s

In May, Lin-Manuel Miranda issued an apology to fans of Hamilton for the Broadway show’s failure to publicly denounce systemic racism sooner.

I'm writing a musical called "King!" all about MLK. It will feature all-white performers and the music will be in the style of Appalachian bluegrass and Scottish ballads.

I'm sure this will lead to massive laudatory media coverage, thousand dollar tickets, plus millions of white Liberals pretending they love it, just like "Hamilton."

Better yet…Scottish ballad format with the whitest, squarest Lawrence Welk style orchestration.

The 'they/them' move was to replace the earlier attempts at 'Xir/Hir' stuff that drew huge amounts of mockery. It is an example of a pullback. The previous version was just too much pure Tumblr IRL. 'They/Them' has been adopted instead. Interesting, no reports of mass suicides from the invalidation of all the 'Xir' pronouns.

Just two years ago and Google was handing these out at the registration to their big conference.

At this point, at work, we’re merely invited to state our pronouns in our signature.
HR will probably make it mandatory as soon as a certain threshhold of “voluntary” pronoun disclosure is reached.
Some colleagues will claim that exchanging emails with those without pronouns makes them feel unsafe.
