From the New York Times news section:

Teenage Girl Is Fatally Shot by the Police in Columbus, Officials Say

The use of deadly force in Ohio happened just before the former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was convicted of murdering George Floyd.

By Neil Vigdor and Bryan Pietsch
April 20, 2021

A teenage girl was fatally shot by the police in Columbus, Ohio, on Tuesday afternoon, officials said, shortly before a jury reached a guilty verdict in the murder trial of the former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin in last year’s killing of George Floyd.

The girl’s death cast an immediate pall over public expressions that justice had been served in Mr. Floyd’s case and touched off protests in Ohio’s capital city.

The Columbus Division of Police did not immediately provide details about the shooting, which was confirmed on Twitter by the city’s mayor, Andrew Ginther, who said there was police body camera footage of the confrontation and urged residents to keep the peace as protesters descended on the scene. …

Note that the NYT didn’t have the body camera footage when they posted this article. I do, and I analyze it below.

My brief impression was that Mayor Ginther handled it pretty well, unlike many other politicians recently, emphasizing keep calm and wait for the facts. He didn’t throw the cop under the bus or start apologizing to the mob.

But check out the responses to the Mayor’s level-headedness:

The Columbus Dispatch reported that police had been responding to a 911 call about an attempted stabbing when the shooting took place around 4:45 p.m. in the southeastern part of Columbus. The verdict in the Chauvin case was announced about 20 minutes later.

A woman interviewed by The Dispatch identified the victim, who was Black, as her 15-year-old niece. The woman, Hazel Bryant, told the newspaper that her niece lived in a foster home and got into an altercation with someone else at the home.

Ms. Bryant said her niece had a knife, but maintained that the girl had dropped the knife before she was shot multiple times by a police officer, the newspaper reported.

… A crowd of protesters gathered outside the city’s police building, local news media reported.

The teenager’s death quickly received widespread attention, including from Ben Crump, the Floyd family’s lawyer, amid a continuing reckoning over police accountability and systemic racism.

“As we breathed a collective sigh of relief today, a community in Columbus felt the sting of another police shooting as @ColumbusPolice killed an unarmed 15yo Black girl,” Mr. Crump said. “Another child lost! Another hashtag.”

With Ben Crump on the case, you know you are getting the straight story.

The Columbus police have released the shooting cop’s body camera video. It all happens extremely fast as the cop is getting out of his cruiser. To evaluate the challenge facing the cop, watch it first in normal speed from 6:38 and try to figure out what is happening in the chaos.

Watching the video in in regular speed, I thought it must have been a bad shoot by the cop.

But I was completely baffled by what was going on. For example, knife-girl first knocks down a light-skinned black girl, at which point a black man in a grey hoodie and blue jeans comes over and kicks her while she’s down. What the hell is that about?

If I’d been in that patrol car, I would have backed up away down the street and called for a helicopter to come drop a huge net over everybody on the sidewalk so we could take our time sorting out who was doing what.

But then watch it again from when at 8:42 they play it in slo-mo.

First the teen girl with a knife (black top and blue jeans) knocks another girl down, and then charges the girl in pink. You can see the attempted murderer’s big knife clearly at 9:56 in the video as she draws it back to impale (or perhaps slash the throat of) the girl in pink, at which point the cop kills the attacker, saving the girl in pink:

Watching it once in super slo-mo, however, it looked instead like a good shoot.

Watching it several times in super slo-mo, it looks like a great shoot that stopped a likely murder with maybe 0.3 seconds to spare before the big knife plunged home, like a scene in a 1950s Western TV show in which the sheriff shoots the bandit just as the bad guy attempts to kill the schoolmarm.

Note that the cop didn’t hit the would-be victim in pink nor anybody else standing around, just the stabber.

Will the headline tomorrow morning be “White Hero Cop Saves Black Girl’s Life”?

Of course, Joe Biden would have done it even better. Last June Biden advised:

“There is the idea that instead of standing there and teaching an agent when an unarmed person comes at him with a knife or something, shoot him in the leg instead of the heart.”

I’ve been impressed watching all these police shooting videos in recent years by how seldom police hit bystanders. They seem to pour a lot of bullets into the central body mass of the person they are aiming for with few missed shots careening around the neighborhood.

I’m wondering if increased cop accuracy over the decades spurs complaints about too much deadly force. Maybe in 1970 if cops fired 3 times, they often tended to miss completely twice and hit the bad guy in the shoulder once, which everybody agreed was fair. Now they fire three times, but twice into the heart and once into the liver.

Update: This bodycam video isn’t changing the minds of all the professional white-haters. For example, Bree Newsome, who is apparently a Somebody on the Internet, argues that it was racist for the police to save the black girl in pink:

The knife girl was attempting to murder two black girls, the one she first knocked to the ground, but then left after the shooter cop stepped in, and the girl in pink:

If the cops had stood around around while she stabbed them like you recommend, you’d still be talking about racism and dehumanization of Black girls, just with much more innocent victims to blame on whites.

Ms. Newsome goes on in an Alt-Right separationist vein:

True, teenagers have been having fights involving knifes for eons:

But back then they had better taste in music.

"That cop was a hero was saved a black woman’s life, so… life in prison?"

Hero? No. He saved a black girl's life, thereby elevating the risk to white Americans in racial "hot spots". An acceptable trade-off? Many whites will think so and therein lies the problem.

Until whites stop thinking and acting globally and start thinking and acting tribally, we will continue to suffer losses from a war we have yet to engage in fighting.

Any white cop who polices a black area, any white who adopts a non-white child, any white who goes to Africa to "help people", any white American who thinks we (meaning all American citizens) are in this together--any and all of these whites are giving aid and comfort to the enemy (far left believers and activists of any race but mainly whites).

Too many here still don't understand the urgent need for whites to think and respond tribally. Our survival and the survival of our civilization depend on that.

The problem is that in situations like this, where things happen very quickly, the police reflexively act on their training and natural human instincts instead of thinking ahead about the consequences for their lives and careers. There just isn’t time.
Yes, he should have pulled back to a safe distance, sort of flapping his hands going “whoa, whoa, here now, kindly desist!” until everyone runs out of gas and the action winds down, then called in medical assistance as needed. I don’t know if he was already close when the dispatch call came, but he might have also tried to take his time getting there and avoided getting involved. But again, he didn’t have a crystal ball as part of his standard police issue, so I have a hard time being too critical of him.

Cops don't do much about riots. You have to go back decades to find cops doing much about riots. Give them some white, middle-aged, middle-class abortion clinic protestors sitting on the sidewalk, and they'll be happy to knock some heads together, but riots are dangerous.

You and I can agree that the correct response to a riot is to hose down the street with hot lead, but, sadly, that's just not the American way.

A bunch of kollij-aged drunken idiots are not the same as a politically-motivated mob.

No one was being violently attacked, nor were buildings set ablaze.

Firing tear gas or flashbangs into a +1000 count drunken mob would've resulted in stampede deaths.

Few observing Whites support this baboonery for any reason, nor does (((fake news))) promote it as justified.

  10. She was just getting her life together after a life in foster care. Was ready to start college in the Fall once she got vaccinated. She had even picked out some designer masks that reflect her caring nature and love of small animals and children. And she was trying to give the knife to her friend Wakesha- it was Wakesha’s birthday and she had put a carving knife on her wish list of presents. I agree with Steve. Awesome shot by the police officer. The black woman who’s life he saved should step up right away and thank him for his service.

The soft racism in this story will become comically apparent, as the psychotic man attempting to kick a young girl’s head in in front of the police officer will remain unaddressed, since, by the media’s collective reasoning, black men aren’t as biologically advanced as white people, so clinical terms like “psychopath,” “sociopath,” or “oppositional defiance disorder,” would be pointlessly applied to their behavior.

After all, you wouldn’t call a common chimp attacking its keeper or a passerby as “psychotic.”

You’d say, “a chimp is a wild animal, doing what chimps do.”

Conclusion: Applying clinical terms to black people, or sociological terms to there primitive subcultures is as ridiculous as someone deciding to keep an adult chimp as a pet. Ask CNN.

He’s lucky that the knife-woman was so focused on stabbing her women targets or he might have gotten himself stabbed if she focused on him instead of turning to the pink girl.

Also, this video shows again (at least to me) the impact of a screeching crowd, especially high pitched screeching women.

My heart rate is still elevated after watching that a few times and it’s not from the shooting or the stabbing, i think. It’s from the sound /reaction of the crowd.

The vast majority of bodycam footage – and keep in mind that these are videos from the most controversial cases – usually show the police to be very professional. They may sometimes be ever so slightly a bit too rude or blunt, but it is almost always some deliberate and violent action by the decedent that leads to his or her demise.

People call these officer involved shootings the result of “police brutality” and “systemic racism,” but in America we’ve always been a bit more cynical about those who die in the commission of a crime, regardless of their race. You may not deserve to die for the particular crime you are committing (like passing a bogus $20), but if you want to go to battle with an armed homeowner or a law enforcement officer trying to make an honest arrest, then you deserve whatever is coming to you. It kind of all goes hand-in-hand with our continued support of the death penalty.

And just like judges and the leftist establishment have chipped away at the death penalty bit by bit, without our consent, and in complete violation of the basic tenets of our democracy, to the point that we now only have about 20 executions per year in a country with 16,000 murders per year, the establishment is now gleefully chipping away at the right of police to hand out Darwin Awards to the violent thugs who live among us.

One reason the West became the civilized place that it is was because while we were domesticating our dogs, farm animals, and crops, we were also domesticating ourselves, by rendering swift justice to those who put our lives at risk. We now have a society that actively subsidizes and encourages dysgenic breeding and where we aren’t allowed to remove even the most violent of people from our populations. Instead, in the best of cases, we expend exhorbitant sums of money to house them for decades.

Incidentally: how many of the people whose lives were saved by this incident will be appearing at a Blue Lives Matter rally or sport a Blue Lives Matter sticker on their car? Zero is the safest guess.

Wonder what the kill count would be by then, and I don’t mean from the cops.

It’s shocking what cops have to deal with in Current Year America.

Very very few people know about that, or care about that.

What about the guy kicking the girl on the ground?

Will he be prosecuted? Somehow I doubt it.

He does it with the cops there, recording.

    Impunity? Or just Privilege?

Note that there’s a dude in a sweatshirt who kicked the first woman who got punched/ slashed/ pushed down in the back of the head while she was on the ground / getting up right in front of the cops and in full view of the camera. IIRC kicking someone in the head when they’re down is grounds for attempted murder charges. Why the heck WOULD you do that unless you’re really trying to f someone up? kicking them in the ribs or legs or something is a fight, but the head ? (and this is not even mentioning that he’s attacking a girl and in a case where there’s no possible claim for self defense since she has probably not even seen him yet by the point he does this)

The stabbette probably had very tight tunnel-vision centered on her target(s). Pretty typical human response. But yeah, if she was intent on harming someone else everything was going on way, way too close.

Legit shoot for a sworn officer to prevent grave bodily harm or death.

I’ve been impressed watching all these police shooting videos in recent years by how seldom police hit bystanders. They seem to pour a lot of bullets into the central body mass of the person they are aiming for with few missed shots careening around the neighborhood.

The vast majority of bodycam footage - and keep in mind that these are videos from the most controversial cases - usually show the police to be very professional. They may sometimes be ever so slightly a bit too rude or blunt, but it is almost always some deliberate and violent action by the decedent that leads to his or her demise.

People call these officer involved shootings the result of "police brutality" and "systemic racism," but in America we've always been a bit more cynical about those who die in the commission of a crime, regardless of their race.

We now have a society that actively subsidizes and encourages dysgenic breeding and where we aren't allowed to remove even the most violent of people from our populations.

  33. I think generally our police “overdo it.” Meaning, where a foreign cop sees a madman or drunk with a knife, they generally take them down without shooting or crippling them with a beating, while ours are stereotypes of cowboy gunslingers in Afghanistan.

Saying that, I can’t imagine anyone is against shooting a person in the act of actually, legitimately trying to stab a (probably innocent, though maybe she had it coming) civilian. Then again, maybe we should let the black community handle these issues in their own manner…which I guess means knife fights between girls and shootouts between men.

Yes, I realize that that sounds like something said by every older generation about every younger generation. But the particular thing today is a wish to recycle old causes that have been framed as glorious in one's mind. It's a lot like the fools who spend their time dressing in old Confederate uniforms and imagining themselves living out the battle of Gettysburg.

There is certainly much room for people who simply want to investigate issues and take a stand on something. John Mearsheimer & Stephen Walt bringing up the Israel lobby's role in the instigation of the Iraq invasion was an opening for activists to find an issue. 38. It’s hard to sympathize with white cops who are clearly too stupid to understand that they are in a lose-lose situation when getting involved in a black-on-black crime.

What the cop should have done is

    A) ignore the call if it was clear it was a black-on-black crime, and perhaps let a black cop handle it;

    B) if this was not an option, just shouted verbally and let events take their course but not otherwise interfere with guns. And if attacked, just get back in the cruiser..and leave.

That's pretty much the way it used to be in the old South. Just let blacks handle their own problems. The very professionalism of the police is being held against them, and always will be, because these violent encounters are baked into the cake.

  39. the bigger picture problem is the leftist television media trying to turn lots of local crime stories now into national news in pursuit of their anti-America agenda. with on-scene video spread instantly via the internet, they can generate a riot in a city within 24 hours – and that is their goal. they are deliberately trying to start riots. in pursuit of their larger goal – elimination of law enforcement on africans in particular, and on third worlders more generally.

this is a new, permanent feature of America, if nothing is done to stop it.

the local crime story is mostly irrelevant, don’t spend much time thinking about it. there are millions of police interactions every year – considering what police are facing out there every day, they do a GREAT job in general. leftists will point to every time things go south as THE evidence that the entire system doesn’t work, when reality is, it’s amazing how well european men are able to keeps things somewhat functional in a country that is almost 50% third worlders.

  41. with regard to police handgun accuracy. for serious officers who train regularly, it has been going up, for decades. striker fired semi auto handguns in 9×19 with light triggers are some of the most shootable firearms ever developed. they’re much easier to shoot well than revolvers in any caliber.

this is not the case for all police – lots of officers barely train and fire their weapon only once a year, and are bad shots. also, in some cities, the police deliberately put a very heavy trigger on their 9mm handguns, making them a lot harder to shoot. this is responsible for many NYC and LA turkey shoots over the years.

an FBI agent who trains to shoot wants a striker trigger at like 4 or 5 pounds. NYPD forces officers to carry glocks with 10 pound triggers.

.40 S&W and .357 Sig are a little harder to shoot but still better than any revolver. they shoot thru glass better than 9×19, which is something police have to do sometimes. no police really use .45 ACP anymore, and even double action autos are on the way out. everything is striker 9, 40, or 357 sig now. like manual transmissions, the hammer is going away from handguns.

It’s becoming less “hard” to see deaths now that we get videos of them constantly via iPhones and all sorts of social media.

I wonder if our culture has lost its former squeamishness about witnessing death as a result. The old “Faces Of Death” videos were once mainly watched by people we considered ghoulish. Now I’m beginning to feel like the desensitized soldiers in a war.

  44. Watching it several times in super slo-mo, it looks like a great shoot that stopped a likely murder with maybe 0.3 seconds to spare before the big knife plunged home, like a scene in a 1950s Western TV show in which the sheriff shoots the bandit just before he kills the schoolmarm.

Note that the cop didn’t hit the would-be victim in pink nor anybody else standing around, just the stabber.

Man, that was a very “There but for the Grace of God go I” type of a shoot. Not only was the woman with the knife entangled with another woman in pink, there were two people to the left of the vehicle who were also potentially in the line of fire. For that matter, it’s very fortunate there was no one obscured by the vehicle itself (bullets can easily penetrate cars – anything but the engine block – and hurt or kill someone behind). This shoot could have gone wrong in so many ways.

I’ve been impressed watching all these police shooting videos in recent years by how seldom police hit bystanders. They seem to pour a lot of bullets into the central body mass of the person they are aiming for with few missed shots careening around the neighborhood.

There is probably a significant selection bias in these videos. Most police officers still get only a rudimentary amount of training in firearms (just to qualify). But, on the other hand, lots of cops these days are veterans with actual combat experiences and/or recipients of the much enhanced firearms training that the military imparts these days on high-readiness units.

First, thanks for your comment. Second, on this site people talk a lot about what POCs can't get into their heads, but much less about what we can't get into our own. What I mean is that many Blacks seem accepting of a general level of mayhem that most Whites, to say nothing of Asians, find it hard to tolerate. I'm not saying they necessarily like it -- though some do -- but they don't see it as particularly aberrant. "That's just the way folks be!" or some such attitude. To be fair, Whites have in the past been pretty entertained by violent incidents, so maybe this is more a product of the current moment or suburban living or working in a cubicle all day.

Years ago, The Atlantic Monthly -- back when it was a real magazine -- ran a long piece about the effects of Section 8 housing. One member of the Section 8 diaspora lamented the loss of community that she had enjoyed in the projects. She said that in the good old days, people would hear gunshots and run outside to see who had done the shooting, and who had been hit (this was an example of "community"). Everyone would then debate and diagnose the the causes and the responsibilities of the shooting. This after-action analysis could provide for days of animated discussion. Reading this, I realized that I was looking not only into another way of life, but another way of seeing life.

The problem is that in situations like this, where things happen very quickly, the police reflexively act on their training and natural human instincts instead of thinking ahead about the consequences for their lives and careers.

The Columbus police have released the shooting cop’s body camera video. It all happens extremely fast as the cop is getting out of his cruiser.

How long before cops just stop getting out of the cruiser? I'm surprised that any of 'em still do.

Columbus was also the site of a police shooting a few days ago in a Hospital ER room. The high-as-a-kite suspect had a concealed weapon he wouldn't let go of, even after four cops barked f**k-around-and-find-out instructions at him for over a minute.

Also check out how NPR originally framed the story before the bodycam video came out:

A 16-year-old Black girl was fatally shot by a white officer outside of her home after she called the police for help on Tuesday afternoon, according to her family.

The girl has been identified as Ma’Khia Bryant by her aunt, Hazel Bryant.

Bryant allegedly called officers at about 4:30 p.m. local time when a group of “older kids” threatened her with assault, her aunt told Ohio Statehouse News Bureau Reporter Andy Chow. She did not elaborate on the nature of the threat.

Bryant was taken to a local hospital in critical condition where she was later pronounced dead.

The fatal shooting occurred just as the verdict in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin who killed George Floyd was coming down and quickly drew at least a dozen Black Lives Matter protesters to the scene, WBNS News reported. The outlet said the demonstrators were on their way to rally in downtown Columbus to celebrate the guilty verdict in the Minneapolis trial where the former officer in that case was found guilty on three charges, including murder.

Bryant’s mother described her daughter as “an honor roll student and a sweet child,” WBNS reported.

    https://web.archive.org/web/20210421033238/https://www.npr.org/2021/04/20/989342784/16-year-old-black-girl-who-called-for-help-fatally-shot-by-police-ohio-family-sa

They include proper attributional phrases like “according to her family” at the bottom of the story there’s a statement from the mayor that they’re still gathering evidence and a disclaimer that the story’s still developing, but a more straight-forward blood libel lede i can’t think of.

It’s literally “black child calls police for help, but white policeman shoots her dead!” with, in the current year context, the clear implication that it’s because Amerikkka is a racist country and this is how it treats black child bodies.

Even after an update they’re headlining it:
“Columbus Police Shoot And Kill Black, Teenage Girl”
    and they’re saying
“At a Tuesday night press conference, the Columbus Police Department released an edited version of the body camera video worn by the officer who shot Bryant.

Woods said the video shows Bryant holding a knife as she pushes two girls at the scene. He said police believe she is attempting to stab both girls during the fight.

It’s unclear, based on the footage, at what point Bryant gets ahold of the knife.

As the officer approaches her, a knife can be seen close to her.

So the video is “edited” and the reporter makes some declarative descriptive statements about what she sees in the video, such as that there is a knife close to the woman after she’s shot, but it’s only “Woods said” when it comes to her holding the knife.

This is quite the juggling act of 1st person and 3rd person and could be the normal discontinuities that happen as a developing story keeps being edited.
But they sure do lean in the direction of suggesting that the cops are being dishonest with their “edited video” and “saying” she was attempting to stab people when all you can see is a knife next to her after she’s down which she may or may not have gotten a hold of sometime.

The vid monologue / dialogue is not a surprise to me, but I bet there are regulars here who have not encountered such people in their daily lives. Yes, some people really do live in a bubble. Every adult heard or seen in that 20 minute vid is probably eligible to vote. Everyone in that vid is a potential witness in court, every adult potentially a juror in some other court.

There is nothing that the rest of us can do for such people that won't be either rejected or taken for granted as "what owed". This is the voice of "reparations". This is the voice of "equity". These are the people that our Civic Nationalists are sure can be uplifted with the right environment, such as, oh, nice neighborhoods (but not CivNat neighborhoods, oh no!). Well, there it is...the houses, lawns and landscape in this vid is better than where I live, to be honest. They have nicer "stuff" than my neighbors do. So who is privileged over whom? And why isn't the nice environment having a positive effect on the occupants?

Finally, just from listening and viewing, this is what IQ 85 sounds like and looks like. This is average for the particular subgroup. Not top of the class, but not dumb either. Quite possibly AA middle class families.

If cops will just let black people kill each other and stay out of it these incidents would go away. The media aren't going to report blacks killing blacks.
Why can't the cops get it through their thick heads? Nobody wants you to be a hero and save the girl in pink! Let her die! It's what blacks want. It's what white liberals want. It's what the girl in pink wants - you don't think she's going to be grateful to whitey for saving her life, do you?
This cop could have let her die and gone home safely to his wife and kids tonight. Instead he will be up on charges and the rest of us have to suffer through another round of BLM riots and lies. If this had ended with the fatal stabbing of the girl in pink there would have been no harm done.

First, thanks for your comment. Second, on this site people talk a lot about what POCs can’t get into their heads, but much less about what we can’t get into our own. What I mean is that many Blacks seem accepting of a general level of mayhem that most Whites, to say nothing of Asians, find it hard to tolerate. I’m not saying they necessarily like it — though some do — but they don’t see it as particularly aberrant. “That’s just the way folks be!” or some such attitude. To be fair, Whites have in the past been pretty entertained by violent incidents, so maybe this is more a product of the current moment or suburban living or working in a cubicle all day.

Years ago, The Atlantic Monthly — back when it was a real magazine — ran a long piece about the effects of Section 8 housing. One member of the Section 8 diaspora lamented the loss of community that she had enjoyed in the projects. She said that in the good old days, people would hear gunshots and run outside to see who had done the shooting, and who had been hit (this was an example of “community”). Everyone would then debate and diagnose the the causes and the responsibilities of the shooting. This after-action analysis could provide for days of animated discussion. Reading this, I realized that I was looking not only into another way of life, but another way of seeing life.

Agree. Everybody here talking about how this was a "good shoot" is missing the point. Lawfully (which is a thing that no longer exists), they may be right, but a new legal regime started in 1964 which is now reaching maturity, where there is really only one rule: "black good; white bad", as Steve has been pointing out for some time. I think Steve meant "black good; white bad" as a media meme, but it is effectively law now, both civil and criminal. (Yes, I could mention how accurate Orwell was in forecasting socialist revolution inevitably evolving to "some are more equal than others", but the new regime is helpfully more explicit: it tells us exactly who is more equal and who is less.)

To the extent that there is a solution for this, AnotherDad has named it: separate nations. But in fact we already have separate nations legally: there is one law—with plenty of slack—for blacks, and another—much harsher—law for whites. The problem for whites is that neither legal nation is controlled by whites. And both nations are being made to intermingle, to the detriment of both.

Separate geography would help, though I see no reason to expect it in the near term, so until then, law officers should consider that maybe benign neglect of the black "community" really is the least bad option. In this particular case, it appears that the girl who called the police was the one who got shot. How did that happen? In her black current-year 16-year-old brain, calling the police isn't calling for the rule of law, it is calling for reinforcements for her in her feud with her neighbors. It was just unfortunate timing that the white cop arrived right at the moment she was finally getting the upper hand over her adversaries. In the police officer's white two-millennia-of-common-law adult brain, a figure swinging a knife toward a woman pinned against an automobile is an imminent threat justifying deadly force. No amount of diversity training can bridge the divide between these two brains. On paper, the cop was right, but the Chauvin verdict has shown that what's on paper no longer matters, only the Narrative and the Megaphone does.

These situations are no-win scenarios for white cops. There is no golden mean between under-policing and over-policing. There is only an overlap where they are guilty of both at the same time.

And how much harm is there in benign neglect? After all, Ma’Khia already had the knife when she beat the first tubbo and that first girl wasn't slashed to death. The girl-in-pink probably wasn't gonna get killed either. Now "probably" wouldn't be good enough if the girl in pink was my daughter or your daughter, but then we would praise the cop for stopping the assault mid-stoke. Pinkie and her family will not. On the contrary, they will be in the vanguard of the coming BLM riots. The cop tried to stop a micro-riot, but now there will be macro-riots.

What I mean is that many Blacks seem accepting of a general level of mayhem that most Whites, to say nothing of Asians, find it hard to tolerate.

That is true. I had it explained to me a few years ago by a black man who had played major division 1 college football, and graduated, and who would soon enter a fire academy. He only had 1 Baby Mama, and he felt guilty about that. He hoped to find a wife for life. He attended church regularly. He condemned black gangs for corrupting black kids. He definitely was among the best 10-15% of black men you could find.

And that's the reason I was shocked when he told me why he still lived in what he called 'the Hood.' He said he just loved the excitement. He loved loud music at all hours; he loved the many street altercations. He said there is an electricity in the air of black neighborhoods that makes everything seem filled with the very pulse of life. He said that a typical white neighborhood was great to visit but would bore him to death.

His roommate was a former college teammate. He worried about the roommate because he smoked dope every day. The roommate also had 3 babies by two mamas, and showed no sign of ever wanting to settle down sexually. He admitted he knew the roommate, who was an assistant coach for a private high schools football team, had had sex with a couple of high school girls. He was happy to allow his roommate's cousin to stay with them off and on even though the cousin already had spent one short stint in prison and probably was dealing. About 3 months after this conversation, the roommate was fired for sexting with an 8th grader.

The nearly best possible black guy continued to live where he did and associate on the fringes of blacks he knew to be criminal and violent. That was his world. He liked it.

What you will find with most blacks that want to live in a white neighborhood is that they want to be there just to prove they can and /or that they want to bring as mjuch of that black world into a safer area, hoping to have their black cake while eating it too. They want to have whites provide for them as safe a place as possible for them to have as much of that black excitement as they can get.

Blacks are natural Double Thinkers. It goes with what Sailer calls Magical Thinking.

I don’t think white cops will be clashing with black cops, but white gangs may very well make a comeback. But whatever.

I think generally our police "overdo it." Meaning, where a foreign cop sees a madman or drunk with a knife, they generally take them down without shooting or crippling them with a beating, while ours are stereotypes of cowboy gunslingers in Afghanistan.

Saying that, I can't imagine anyone is against shooting a person in the act of actually, legitimately trying to stab a (probably innocent, though maybe she had it coming) civilian. Then again, maybe we should let the black community handle these issues in their own manner...which I guess means knife fights between girls and shootouts between men.

Great shot though, and commendable decision making on his part.

Yes, I realize that that sounds like something said by every older generation about every younger generation. But the particular thing today is a wish to recycle old causes that have been framed as glorious in one’s mind. It’s a lot like the fools who spend their time dressing in old Confederate uniforms and imagining themselves living out the battle of Gettysburg.

There is certainly much room for people who simply want to investigate issues and take a stand on something. John Mearsheimer & Stephen Walt bringing up the Israel lobby’s role in the instigation of the Iraq invasion was an opening for activists to find an issue. But the Antifa LARPers don’t actually want to address and new controversy. They just dream of repeating the past the way they think it was supposed to be.

Blacks don't understand the concept of "Rule of Law". They don't get that if someone calls the police and lodges a complaint then the police have no choice in deciding whether to act or not. They must respond. It's the law.

Blacks not only don't understand the concept of "Rule of Law" but, generally speaking, they don't understand abstract concepts at all. Their minds stop developing at what would be the mental age of an eleven year old white child. While the white child's mind stands at the threshold of adulthood in which it shall develop the ability to reason "formally", blacks simply do not enter this stage. It's guarded by the motto over the gates of the Academy, "Let none who are ignorant of geometry enter here."

When you pause and reflect upon that statement, you realize that it's not necessarily an injunction; it's a description. Those who cannot reason abstractly are barred not by decree, but by self-limiting ability. That's the way in which they are not "let in". The clueless stand without.

    China was getting nervous:

Tesla will ‘get shut down’ if used for spying in any country, Musk says after reports of restrictions on vehicles in China

Tesla chief Elon Musk said the company has a strong incentive to not be used for espionage in foreign countries. His remarks came shortly after reports that China placed restrictions on Tesla cars.

“If a commercial company did engage in spying, the negative effects to that company would be extremely bad,” Musk said at the China Development Forum, which he attended via video link.

“For example, if Tesla used the cars to spy in China – or anywhere, any country – we will get shut down everywhere,” he said, adding that there is “a very strong incentive for us to be very confidential with any information.”

The Tesla and SpaceX chief made the comment shortly after reports emerged, citing sources, that the Chinese authorities banned the company’s electric cars from entering military complexes and compounds, and restricted their use by the employees of key state-owned companies. The move was reportedly made due to concerns that Tesla could be collecting sensitive data through multi-direction cameras and ultrasonic sensors installed in the self-driving vehicles.

The police officer acted quickly and with professional skill, I grant that, but in my opinion he should have stood by and watched the one black girl knife the other black girl and not intervened. US police respond too quickly and aggressively to these types of situations in African American communities which are much more “laid back” about a teenage girl knife fight. The black community would prefer t0 let a bit of chaos reign in their community. The police officer is attempting to impose a European-mindset level of social order on an African-mindset community which prefers a lower level of social order.

The police officer was not acting illegally, but I think the rules under which police behave so aggressively need to change, at least when they are in African-American communities.

    Replies: @Almost Missouri, @Jake

Agree. Everybody here talking about how this was a “good shoot” is missing the point. Lawfully (which is a thing that no longer exists), they may be right, but a new legal regime started in 1964 which is now reaching maturity, where there is really only one rule: “black good; white bad”, as Steve has been pointing out for some time. I think Steve meant “black good; white bad” as a media meme, but it is effectively law now, both civil and criminal. (Yes, I could mention how accurate Orwell was in forecasting socialist revolution inevitably evolving to “some are more equal than others”, but the new regime is helpfully more explicit: it tells us exactly who is more equal and who is less.)

Separate geography would help, though I see no reason to expect it in the near term, so until then, law officers should consider that maybe benign neglect of the black “community” really is the least bad option. In this particular case, it appears that the girl who called the police was the one who got shot. How did that happen? In her black current-year 16-year-old brain, calling the police isn’t calling for the rule of law, it is calling for reinforcements for her in her feud with her neighbors. It was just unfortunate timing that the white cop arrived right at the moment she was finally getting the upper hand over her adversaries. In the police officer’s white two-millennia-of-common-law adult brain, a figure swinging a knife toward a woman pinned against an automobile is an imminent threat justifying deadly force. No amount of diversity training can bridge the divide between these two brains. On paper, the cop was right, but the Chauvin verdict has shown that what’s on paper no longer matters, only the Narrative and the Megaphone does.

These situations are no-win scenarios for white cops. There is no golden mean between under-policing and over-policing. There is only an overlap where they are guilty of both at the same time.

And how much harm is there in benign neglect? After all, Ma’Khia already had the knife when she beat the first tubbo and that first girl wasn’t slashed to death. The girl-in-pink probably wasn’t gonna get killed either. Now “probably” wouldn’t be good enough if the girl in pink was my daughter or your daughter, but then we would praise the cop for stopping the assault mid-stoke. Pinkie and her family will not. On the contrary, they will be in the vanguard of the coming BLM riots. The cop tried to stop a micro-riot, but now there will be macro-riots.

Forget it Jake, it’s Communiteh Town.

Presumably you are referring to the segment at 13:45, where the police give a pass to the flagrant dealermobile flagrantly running the red light. You can embed YouTube videos queued to the point you want by adding "?t=[number of seconds]" to the URL, or just check the "start at" box in "share" function at YouTube.

Still, the other segments were interesting. I didn't realize that Teslas are rolling (and parked!) video studios. Combine that with the fact that there is apparently some way for civilians to identify each other from their license plates now (5:15 in the video), and combined with mandatory depolicing, we may be entering a new era of vigilantism where social media will be the judge and jury. What could go wrong?

    Replies: @Almost Missouri, @Jake

What I mean is that many Blacks seem accepting of a general level of mayhem that most Whites, to say nothing of Asians, find it hard to tolerate.

That is true. I had it explained to me a few years ago by a black man who had played major division 1 college football, and graduated, and who would soon enter a fire academy. He only had 1 Baby Mama, and he felt guilty about that. He hoped to find a wife for life. He attended church regularly. He condemned black gangs for corrupting black kids. He definitely was among the best 10-15% of black men you could find.

And that’s the reason I was shocked when he told me why he still lived in what he called ‘the Hood.’ He said he just loved the excitement.

He was happy to allow his roommate’s cousin to stay with them off and on even though the cousin already had spent one short stint in prison and probably was dealing.

It’s hard to sympathize with white cops who are clearly too stupid to understand that they are in a lose-lose situation when getting involved in a black-on-black crime.

What the cop should have done is

    A) ignore the call if it was clear it was a black-on-black crime, and perhaps let a black cop handle it;

    B) if this was not an option, just shouted verbally and let events take their course but not otherwise interfere with guns. And if attacked, just get back in the cruiser..and leave.

In the casee of the guy woken up in a drive thru who fought the two cops and then was shot dead after firing the second shot in one cop’s Taser over his shoulder… the cop who shot him also shot an occupied car behind him. And in the case of Mike Brown, after he was shot in the hand and backed off Darren Wilson fired a number of shots at him out the SUV’s window, not hitting him but hitting nearby building(s). Third, in the Brionna Taylor case shots seem to have gone all sorts of places. That’s off the top of my head….

The police officer acted quickly and with professional skill, I grant that, but in my opinion he should have stood by and watched the one black girl knife the other black girl and not intervened. US police respond too quickly and aggressively to these types of situations in African American communities which are much more "laid back" about a teenage girl knife fight.

Why the heck WOULD you do that unless you're really trying to f someone up? kicking them in the ribs or legs or something is a fight, but the head ? (and this is not even mentioning that he's attacking a girl and in a case where there's no possible claim for self defense since she has probably not even seen him yet by the point he does this)

  122. One can see that the girl in pink thinking she is going to be stabbed has lifted her leg and is half on the car with Ma’Khia Bryant right on top of her. Note that this is taken from farther away and so earlier that the frame in the post imediately before the cop started shooting (he hit her four times). Let us examine certain facts.

    1) This girl had the knife and was menacing people before the cop arrives

    2) No one was even slightly injured with a knife in the incident.

    3) The appearance of the cop did nothing to calm the girl with the knife down, if anything it seemed to have coincided with her behaving much more threateningly, but she didn’t hurt anyone in the many minutes before the cop arrived or the 40 seconds after he did. No one got a scratch from the knife, surely we would have heard if this were not so.

Yes, those were shows with actors pretending and having no real intent to injure anyone. There is not a single confirmed example of an actual Western movie or TV style quick draw gunfight or duel ever happening in the old West. Entertainment shows what is cinematic. Similarly, use of a knife onscreen has a great deal of swinging side to side. To plunge a knife home you lunge and extend your arm straight at the intended target. Not swing it (what people there say she was doing) or wind it up behind behind your back like Max Baer preparing to throw a haymaker.

I think Ms Bryant was overwhelmed with her emotions and threatening people with a deadly weapon, but if she had wanted to kill that girl she’d be dead. The whole thing is very tragic, but people have unrealistic expectations of what the police can do in a situation with someone acting like Ms Bryant was. I don’t think the shooting was a very bad one, but neither was it particularly good. Moral: just as it is inadvisable to go to the doctor unless you are truly ill, because a series of unnecessary and potentially dangerous treatments and tests can be set in motion, don’t call the cops on someone and expect psychiatric social workers to turn up.

We now have a society that actively subsidizes and encourages dysgenic breeding and where we aren't allowed to remove even the most violent of people from our populations.

Also check out how NPR originally framed the story before the bodycam video came out:

A 16-year-old Black girl was fatally shot by a white officer outside of her home after she called the police for help on Tuesday afternoon, according to her family.

The girl has been identified as Ma'Khia Bryant by her aunt, Hazel Bryant.

Bryant allegedly called officers at about 4:30 p.m. local time when a group of "older kids" threatened her with assault, her aunt told Ohio Statehouse News Bureau Reporter Andy Chow.

Bryant's mother described her daughter as "an honor roll student and a sweet child," WBNS reported.

It's literally "black child calls police for help, but white policeman shoots her dead!" with, in the current year context, the clear implication that it's because Amerikkka is a racist country and this is how it treats black child bodies.

Even after an update they're headlining it:
"Columbus Police Shoot And Kill Black, Teenage Girl"
    and they're saying
"At a Tuesday night press conference, the Columbus Police Department released an edited version of the body camera video worn by the officer who shot Bryant.
    ...
Woods said the video shows Bryant holding a knife as she pushes two girls at the scene. He said police believe she is attempting to stab both girls during the fight.

It's unclear, based on the footage, at what point Bryant gets ahold of the knife.
    ...
As the officer approaches her, a knife can be seen close to her.
    "

So the video is "edited" and the reporter makes some declarative descriptive statements about what she sees in the video, such as that there is a knife close to the woman after she's shot, but it's only "Woods said" when it comes to her holding the knife.

This is quite the juggling act of 1st person and 3rd person and could be the normal discontinuities that happen as a developing story keeps being edited.
But they sure do lean in the direction of suggesting that the cops are being dishonest with their "edited video" and "saying" she was attempting to stab people when all you can see is a knife next to her after she's down which she may or may not have gotten a hold of sometime.

    Good find. Really good find.

There is nothing that the rest of us can do for such people that won’t be either rejected or taken for granted as “what owed”. This is the voice of “reparations”. This is the voice of “equity”. These are the people that our Civic Nationalists are sure can be uplifted with the right environment, such as, oh, nice neighborhoods (but not CivNat neighborhoods, oh no!). Well, there it is…the houses, lawns and landscape in this vid is better than where I live, to be honest. They have nicer “stuff” than my neighbors do. So who is privileged over whom? And why isn’t the nice environment having a positive effect on the occupants?

Finally, just from listening and viewing, this is what IQ 85 sounds like and looks like. This is average for the particular subgroup. Not top of the class, but not dumb either. Quite possibly AA middle class families.

The cop should have let the stabbing happen and try to physically restrain the girl after. That way, it seems like he’s trying to stop it, and he’s not putting his own life at risk by shooting a black. It baffles me why any cop would shoot at a black unless their own life were in imminent danger.

While its good to wait for details, your scenario seems to be debunked by the fact that the criminal was assaulting a white woman at the beginning. When I first heard of this incident I imagined a case where a black woman attacks a white woman as a form of celebration for the rigged show trial of Derek Chauvin. The actual situation may still have some elements of that, but there is an interesting wrinkle in the story. As far as I can make it out the incident began with the assault on the white woman (possibly in homage to George Floyd). Then a 2nd black woman seems to have tried intervening in support of the white woman who was assaulted. At this point the 1st black woman starts aiming her knife at the 2nd, and the officer then shoots to stop it.

It seems highly improbable that an incident like this would break out with the white woman and the 2nd black woman choosing to jointly assault the 1st black woman. If the 2 black women were assaulting the white woman then that would be believable. But any conflict of this type is more likely the result of an aggressive black woman who is willing to attack both white and black women.

Steve is into traffic statistics, but as far as i can tell, he's never analyzed a single particular car crash here on his blog ever.

what if the media took all the crashes where seat belts are what killed people, and it would have been safer to be thrown clear of the vehicle? not common, but it happens. what if the media took every single crash were air bags actually killed passengers, instead of saving them. not common, but it happens. what if the media never, ever reported on the millions of crashes per year where seat belts, air bags, and ABS saved lives, preferring to omit that part.

then, using those real, but statistically way less common fatal events, what if the media demanded that seat belts and air bags be removed from all vehicles, and all auto makers sued until they do? seat belts and air bags are dangerous, and kill people, after all.

nonsense? of course. totally backwards from how it should be viewed. nobody sees it that way. this is the correct perspective on police interactions as well. or anything else where millions of events happen every year. a large, vigorous police presence reduces the murder rate by thousands per year at the expense of few dozen bad police killings per year.

I agree with Steve. Awesome shot by the police officer. The black woman who's life he saved should step up right away and thank him for his service.

The soft racism in this story will become comically apparent, as the psychotic man attempting to kick a young girl's head in in front of the police officer will remain unaddressed, since, by the media's collective reasoning, black men aren’t as biologically advanced as white people, so clinical terms like "psychopath," "sociopath," or "oppositional defiance disorder," would be pointlessly applied to their behavior.

After all, you wouldn’t call a common chimp attacking its keeper or a passerby as "psychotic."

You'd say, "a chimp is a wild animal, doing what chimps do."

Hero? No. He saved a black girl’s life, thereby elevating the risk to white Americans in racial “hot spots”. An acceptable trade-off? Many whites will think so and therein lies the problem.

Until whites stop thinking and acting globally and start thinking and acting tribally, we will continue to suffer losses from a war we have yet to engage in fighting.

Any white cop who polices a black area, any white who adopts a non-white child, any white who goes to Africa to “help people”, any white American who thinks we (meaning all American citizens) are in this together–any and all of these whites are giving aid and comfort to the enemy (far left believers and activists of any race but mainly whites).

Too many here still don’t understand the urgent need for whites to think and respond tribally. Our survival and the survival of our civilization depend on that.

  156. Just watched the French news (France 2). After going on and on about the “historic” George Floyd verdict, the correspondent then stated that a new case had just occurred where a white policemen killed a 15 year old black girl “pendant son arrestation” (“during her arrest”). While she was saying this the relevant part of the video was playing in the background, but there was of course no mention whatsoever of the actual circumstances of the girl’s death.

Thanks for the cueing and time stamps. Looks very clean to me.

He's lucky that the knife-woman was so focused on stabbing her women targets or he might have gotten himself stabbed if she focused on him instead of turning to the pink girl.

Also, this video shows again (at least to me) the impact of a screeching crowd, especially high pitched screeching women.

My heart rate is still elevated after watching that a few times and it's not from the shooting or the stabbing, i think. It's from the sound /reaction of the crowd.

I assume in the moment i might tune it out or it would seem farther away, but something about watching it on video or how these cams record it (clipping due to the mic or compression algos) really emphasizes it.

Allowing poor, little, helpless Floyd to die when in their care was breech of contract by whites.

Blacks don’t understand the concept of “Rule of Law”. They don’t get that if someone calls the police and lodges a complaint then the police have no choice in deciding whether to act or not. They must respond. It’s the law.

Blacks not only don’t understand the concept of “Rule of Law” but, generally speaking, they don’t understand abstract concepts at all. Their minds stop developing at what would be the mental age of an eleven year old white child. While the white child’s mind stands at the threshold of adulthood in which it shall develop the ability to reason “formally”, blacks simply do not enter this stage. It’s guarded by the motto over the gates of the Academy, “Let none who are ignorant of geometry enter here.”

When you pause and reflect upon that statement, you realize that it’s not necessarily an injunction; it’s a description. Those who cannot reason abstractly are barred not by decree, but by self-limiting ability. That’s the way in which they are not “let in”. The clueless stand without.

Looks like a Chihuahua. In California, it's the most popular ghetto dog (after pitbulls of course). Both are available in abundance at animal shelters.

    Replies: @Billy Corr

A chihuahua is a vile animal: 50% cower & tremble and 50% snarl, lunge and snap.

There is (or was until recently) a woman who was frantically and despairingly trying to find someone
willing to adopt her snarling, lunging and snapping chihuahua, an animal she described as “Chucky in a dog suit” – a reference to the movie “Child’s Play” and several sequels.

  190. Well, paint me white and call me a racist, but that’s got to be about the most open and shut case of justifiable use of force one could imagine – and it’s all on video, no uncertainty whatsoever about what went down.

DEFUND & ABOLISH POLICE, REFUND OUR COMMUNITIES
    @BreeNewsome
People are really arguing that because one teen might have gotten stabbed otherwise, it was better that police shot & killed another teen. How does that make any sense outside of racism & the adultification & dehumanization of Black girls?

No, the police video emphatically proves beyond any doubt that the cop shot a fat stupid monster with a knife who was in the act of sticking a knife into some bystander’s gut.

How does that make any sense outside of racism & the adultification & dehumanization of Black girls?

Well, for starters, the prospective homicide victim is still alive to tell her story, regardless of her risk of “adultification & dehumanization”.

And by the way, is this idiot proposing that it’s a juvenile girl’s right to knife other girls in the gut, otherwise they are being “adultificated”?

Please, oh please @BreeNewsome, come and stand by a car so a fat stupid monster can knife you in the guts while law enforcement personnel stand back and watch. We really don’t want to impose “racism & the adultification & dehumanization of Black girls” 0n you while your guts spill out onto the pavement and your attacker rampages on to knife her next victim.

    Good find. Really good find.

If false descriptions of high profile car crashes were being used to drive the wokeness project and racial hatred then we'd probably be talking about those instead.

There are at least two ways i think this is valuable, imo:

    1) judging by the comment threads many of the commenters here still don't know the general system of police use of force which is an important issue for the Republic separately from any race issues.

    2) Analysis of the high profile cases may give readers helpful non-"who whom" information to use in any discussions they may have on the topic with persuadable people who might then resist or at least not support policy changes (whether corporate or governmental) based on the false depiction of these events in the MSM.

The first item is pretty much the same as car crashes, but the second point makes it considerably different.

please point to the post on ISteve where you analyzed the dashboard camera or traffic camera video of a vehicle collision. there are thousands per year, just like police interactions.

the point is, don't bother spending much time thinking about what happens in any particular police video. that is a waste of time. we're not accomplishing anything by doing that at this point. it's the same as continuing to regurgitate the FBI crime statistics year after year.

we know what's going on. each individual event is just a distraction. the television media has people chasing non-stories and wasting time on baked cake bad faith coverage.

If false descriptions of high profile car crashes were being used to drive the wokeness project and racial hatred then we’d probably be talking about those instead.

There are at least two ways i think this is valuable, imo:

    1) judging by the comment threads many of the commenters here still don’t know the general system of police use of force which is an important issue for the Republic separately from any race issues.

    2) Analysis of the high profile cases may give readers helpful non-“who whom” information to use in any discussions they may have on the topic with persuadable people who might then resist or at least not support policy changes (whether corporate or governmental) based on the false depiction of these events in the MSM.

The first item is pretty much the same as car crashes, but the second point makes it considerably different.

(though i do agree to some degree that the iSteve blog’s catalog of insult after insult after insult is dispiriting at times )

Tucker Carlson or some other news show should post the daily and annual killed and wounded rates similarly to how the news networks posted the body count during the Vietnam War. Just a 10 second metric at the end showing the absolute numbers as well as the breakdown by race including the interracial murder rates and the numbers killed by police. Throw in AR-15s, pistols, and knives and it would be revolutionary.

Yes, but that does not reflect a preference by Netanyahu for Biden over Trump. Quite the contrary. All indicators show that Netanyahu was happier with Trump than with either Obama or Biden. However, the US Jewish population freaked out over Trump. Netanyahu's political strategy (like that of all Israeli leaders since 1948) is heavily dependent upon maintaining cozy relations with US Jews. In this context Netanyahu simply accepted the reality of Biden without liking it.

No, the reality at issue here is that US Jews were overwhelmingly anti-Trump. Netanyahu did nothing to create that reality. What you're suggesting is that he could have joined in a fight against this widespread Jewish sentiment by supporting Trump. Yes, he could have. But that would have entailed a political cost by accentuating tensions between the Likud and US Jews. He chose not to do this out of pragmatism.

No, as with the estimable @polymath no one would have blamed him for staying neutral. Failing to manage that put them both in the ill-advised position of having conceded the legitimacy of the illegitimate and thereby invited the scorn that comes with it, especially from the illegitimate themselves.

Mr Taylor– we haven’t been formally introduced– is evidence for my hypothesis that Southerners are the only white Americans who actually like the company of blacks. The rest of us can get along with them one at a time, for sure, but in numbers, no thanks.

Another hypothesis that just came to mind the past day or two is that Mr Taylor and Corvinus are one and the same person. After all, if Tiny Duck is not necessarily Steve himself, he is in collusion with Steve and Ron.

Whenever I’ve asked Mr Taylor a question, the rare times I’ve gotten a real answer it was from the Crow. Correlation, or caw-sation?
