Much like Stuyvesant High School in NYC, Thomas Jefferson STEM HS in the DC suburbs of Virginia has test only admissions and its student body is 73% Asian and only 17% white.
Whites are using the Summer of George to deal with the rising tide of Asian Supremacy.

In a proposal he submitted to the county school board on Tuesday, Brabrand shared a vision for a transformed admissions process that he hopes will increase diversity at the competitive high school. The new system would eliminate the admissions test and $100 application fee and introduce a “merit lottery” process.
This proposal comes after a recent outcry from alumni about the demographic breakdown of students in the incoming freshman class of 2024. Fewer than ten Black students were offered admission, a number so low that it wasn’t included in the FCPS news release reporting class statistics.
One thing to keep in mind: As with Stuyvesant, if you are black and smart enough to get into Thomas Jefferson, you will probably be offered a scholarship to go to St. Alban’s or Sidwell Friends with the children and grandchildren of the national super-elite. Why would you instead want to go to Thomas Jefferson and make friends with Asian grinds when you can get to know the scions of Senators?
Like many years before, the majority admitted this year are Asian students, who make up 73 percent of the incoming class.
TJ is consistently ranked as a top school in the country and the competition is brutal: This year, the admissions rate was about 19 percent. Parents bend over backwards for their child’s potential admission, moving families across the state to fulfill residency requirements and enrolling their kids in after-school programs to prepare them for the TJ admissions test (with “some starting as early as third grade,” Washingtonian reported in 2017). But this process tends to benefit privileged families in the area, creating a homogenous student population that doesn’t come close to fairly representing the six diverse districts in Northern Virginia that the school serves.

They’re trying to recruit high school students from across the country? Most blacks and Hispanics don’t want to leave home for a strange city at age 15. Their recruiting pool is going to be collected from DC and nowhere else.
TJHS is a science and math specialty school. No wonder they don’t have blacks or Hispanics.

DOJ said okay, we’ll take you at your word and investigate you.

Thanks for the good news from the West Coast! Unfortunately, no such Asian political awareness has yet appeared in NYC. The Thomas Jefferson High School was asking for trouble if it was 68% Asian, 21% white and 2% black.
It is almost as though the admission system was run by autistic people. Or run by software and not people at all. You don’t have to be a $150,000 per year diversity consultant to know that numbers like that were going to be a problem sooner or later.
The ivies figured this out decades ago. You keep the testing but throw in some mystery variables to get a class makeup that isn’t skewed in really obvious ways.
Having admissions numbers of 68% Asian, 21% white and 2% black in 2020 is like wearing speedo swimming trunks at a black-tie formal — it’s not subtle.

So I am sure Thomas Jefferson will come out of this just fine.

Demographically, 37.8 percent of FCPS students are White, 26.8 percent are Hispanic, 19.5 percent are Asian, 9.8 percent are Black, 5.7 percent are two or more races, 0.3 are American Indian and 0.1 percent are Native Hawaiian.
A good rule of thumb for having children while living in Fairfax County is that if one's kid goes to George Mason University, one will be considered a failure as a parent. If one's child goes to community college (NOVA) one is committing child abuse.
Probably the whites enrolled in the school would rather have more diversity ( less Asians). The current obsession with race has enabled the administration and parents to use it as a tool to reduce the number of Asians attending this school. It seems they have been trying for some time to increase the number of Blacks , but found how difficult it has been to find qualified Blacks based on testing. The white parents may realize their kids would have a better high school experience with more diversity in this situation. The 1830 Virginia State Constitution (VSC) expanded voting rights. It’s no coincidence that the 1851 version imposed a tax for public education purposes. Currently, VSC mandates compulsory schooling.
On the bright side, I think the VSC maintains a legacy (1776) provision that disqualifies, from public office, anyone involved in a duel; an implicit sanction of the duel.

I think many Asians have adopted the anti-white stance figuring that its useful to eliminate their closest rivals, talented whites. That, and verbally able but not especially bright women of color of South and East Asian origins can play the intersectional Pokémon game in their newspaper columns. “Merit Lottery” is brilliant doubletalk. Either you choose students by merit or you choose them by lottery. There is no such thing as a “merit lottery”. This would be a more believable conspiracy theory if it weren’t for the fact that so much manga and anime is based around extreme violence and warfare. For example, Golgo 13, which is Japan’s longest-running comic book, is about a professional hit man. You can buy it in every 7-Eleven convenience store.

Abstract Expressionism as a movement may have been if not created by supported by U.S. intelligence. However, it is barely distinguishable from other forms of modern art to the uninitiated. And that ruse had been going for decades. It found support in higher culture (because it was corrupt), Big Business (because ugly art produced with no discernible talent can be churned out quicker), and academia (because it had lost its mind).

The protesters may have a point. If doing well on the admissions test does heavily benefit from after school prep programs, that seems off. I dislike it for the same reason I liked the old SAT: aptitude doesn’t care how reach your parents were. If you have the talent, it will show up the test. Unfortunately, I suspect having a larger aptitude component to admissions would not be well received in the current political climate. However, would having the top-ranked student from each grade school be eligible be that terrible? It doesn’t care where you started; if you (academically) kick ass in your environment, you’ve proven yourself. Catching up could be difficult, but possible.
Also, in Fairfax County Public Schools, the real cut for TJ starts in sixth grade when the elementary school teachers decide if a student is ready for algebra in 7th grade versus the college prep track students who will take algebra and a foreign language in eight grade, versus the average children who will take take those classes in ninth grade.
If a student does take and succeed Algebra in 7th grade, they have already fallen off the TJ track.

The TJ system used to be much more meritocratic; they made the entrance exam much easier in 2011 in the hopes of increasing minority enrollment. This benefited kids who weren’t as quite as gifted but who were willing to kill themselves cramming for the exam. The proportion of Asian kids went from about 40% to 70% with the easier test, while not increasing minority enrollment. Not the result they were looking for. They’re doing something similar in neighboring Montgomery County. The elementary magnet schools now pull “outliers” from each school vs the best kids across the county. So if a school A has a large number of kids scoring in the 99th percentile and school B only has one kid scoring at the 90th percentile and all the rest at 80 and below, the kid from school B will be selected. After this change took place they had kids at the “magnet” schools who were testing below grade level. It hasn’t reached up to the HS magnets yet but it will.

In the Chicago Police department, I believe they went from competitive examinations to a minimum qualifying score, and it’s not very high. Don’t know about the Fire Department.
My own agency many years ago (before I was hired) went from a system where each job had to go to one of the three top scorers remaining on the list, to a system of A, B, and C categories. As long as there are at least 5 remaining candidates left in the A category, selections are made only from that category. When the number drops below 5, due to some A candidates being hired or promoted, selections can be made from both A and B. The C category can be tapped if necessary to meet the 5 candidate requirement.
It would not be that hard to design a test which would tend to produce B candidates. Just have about 85% easy questions and 15% very hard questions; the dividing lines are 90% between A and B and 80% between B and C. 70% is minimum. Also scores are normalized so that 60% correct may equal a 70% score. This is done after the test is graded. The lists posted after scoring almost invariably include large numbers of B candidates and few A or C candidates. I think it’s fair to surmise that the type of manipulation I mentioned above is occurring.
Reading carefully and between the lines, all they’re doing is race norming the admissions and then creating a parallel basket weaving curriculum for those who can’t handle the school’s regular one.

Interesting is at the bottom is an appendix. At the top is Basis academy a charter school. So TJ and Stuyvesant may not be at the top of the public prestige ladder.
Oddly, Fairfax County has a very small black population these days. My son’s graduation from Mount Vernon demonstrated to me that the minorities there are white and black kids. The majority are Salvadoran/Hispanic and Asian. Don’t know where TJ is gonna find enough black students even without the testing requirement.

I think the 100k jobs that Amazon is creating in Northern Virginia will have a much larger effect on real estate prices rather than a few dozen Chinese families renting houses in Mclean. Also, the $300 million genomic medical center that Inova is building will have a bigger imact that a high school with 1500 students.

One should not look at the demographics of the county but the demographics of the school system.
From the school systems website:

A good rule of thumb for having children while living in Fairfax County is that if one’s kid goes to George Mason University, one will be considered a failure as a parent. If one’s child goes to community college (NOVA) one is committing child abuse.

Good point, although this is a private school which costs $28,000 per year and the Public Schools in NYC are able to get away with it somehow. Bronx Science High School is just 2% Black yet the Bronx is 36% Black and just 14% white. If the NYC magnet schools are able to keep their student body at 2% Black via standardized testing why are private schools prohibited from doing the same ? They could have kept the current testing requirements and remained mostly Asian if they really wanted to.
Probably the whites enrolled in the school would rather have more diversity ( less Asians). The current obsession with race has enabled the administration and parents to use it as a tool to reduce the number of Asians attending this school. It seems they have been trying for some time to increase the number of Blacks , but found how difficult it has been to find qualified Blacks based on testing. The white parents may realize their kids would have a better high school experience with more diversity in this situation. Don’t be so sure. Just because the current situation is bad does not mean that it cannot be made even worse by muddle headed interventions. That is the entire history of the US in recent years.
You could argue that having a school that is 68% Asian in a county that is only 17% Asian is politically unsustainable, but the current system undeniably produced a lot of high functioning individuals who help to keep our infrastructure, medical systems, national defense, etc. going. There will undoubtedly be a price to be paid by casting aside merit in favor of racial equity. Do you want your surgeon to be the guy who won the “merit lottery”?
BTW, there are plenty of schools that are not only 68% black but 100% black and no one seems to have any problem with those. The reason for the high Asian numbers is because many Asians have no outside interests such as sports or just socializing in general. White people built a public school system that catered to their offspring and included plenty of time for extracurricular activities. Asians don’t have any time for that (except for band, maybe) and spend every free moment studying to pass tests.
It used to be a common phrase that “all work and no play, makes Johnny a dull boy”. Looking at Asian personalities as a whole, I’d have to agree. The concern is how will this impact the US when these people are in charge of large parts of society. In the sense of continuing to exist as a school, probably, for as long as district taxpayers continue to fund it. When CUNY went from a selective school that graduated Intel’s Andy Grove to open admissions, it went from Public Ivy to just another community college.

The biggest complaints about the test used for TJ or Stuyvesant is that much of the material on the test is not covered by 6th through 8th grade cirriculum in the public schools. The schools entrance requirements create a situation where tutoring and test prep are require to compete with everyone else.

I assumed the outcry came from the white alumni. It would be strange to see a school go from almost all white and native born to mostly Asian and immigrant.
Where I live in Northern Virginia, Indian and east Asian parents force their children to be academic hermits for years in order to take the spots at prestigious high schools like Thomas Jefferson and universities like the University of Virginia and William & Mary. The native children (i.e., American whites) still live like teenagers have always lived in this country: study, play high school sports, date, go to parties, play outside. The overachieving foreigners that we have imported to this country in the last twenty years are taking the slots at institutions that WE created for OUR children. It infuriates me to no end.
The kids would rather hang out online rather than actually go see a friend in real life.
There are an enormous number of different gadgets to keep you preoccupied. Smartphones, Blu-ray players, iPods, iPads, computers, Netflix, Wii, hundreds of tv channels, etc.
Helicopter parents are anxious about letting the kids out of the house for unsupervised time with friends.

So after high school football games, there's no after-game party at the QB's house. Instead, everyone just goes home. Seriously.
Being a teenager is really boring these days. Teens go through life without having fun adventures or growing independently as individuals. They don't create strong social bonds with fellow teens. Instead, they're either being constantly shuttled to various activities (SAT prep, Key Club, soccer practice, etc.) by their ultra-competitive helicopter parents, or they're sitting in front of a screen like a zombie.

A first hand TJ story. At the Fairfax County Science Fair, there are three categories for overall winners: individual project, individual project for TJ students, and team projects. For the team projects, two teams are selected for the international competition. Only one of the teams can be from TJ but there is no rule that a winning team has to be from TJ.
While judging teams for overall winner and selecting for the international competition, the best team project, by far, was from two TJ students. The second best project was also from a set of three TJ students and the third best project was from another high school. A south Asian judge with a PhD in IT proposed giving the first place prize to the second best TJ team since the best team was comprised of seniors who had already been admitted to Ivy League schools. Since the second TJ team were juniors, the argument was that the juniors would benefit much more from going to the international competition and getting the prize. All of the non-Hispanic white judges not only said no but said that they would revolt and not sign the award recommendations if the South Asian judges had their way. So in the course of 15 minutes of discussion, South Asian corruption, Tiger Mom mentality, ethnic tribalism, college application gaming, and western ideas of fair play were displayed.

Can i point out the obvious:
Education is not a scarce good. There’s no reason everyone can’t have it in whatever quality and quantity they want.
“Harvard” embossed on your diploma is a scarce good. Harvard works to make sure of it. But education is not. And seriously, no one gives a flying rats ass where you went to high school. The only benefit of a particular school is the actual education you got from it and the “experience” you had there.
The quality of your education comes from:
— Your smarts.
— A decent curriculum. Which is trivially easy to duplicate (what the whole AP syllabus tries to do). Books and now even lectures can be duplicated ad infinitum.
— Applying butt to chair. (Reading, thinking, doing the work–problems, writing, etc.)
If a bunch more students (parents) want the education at school A … then duplicate it at school B. Heck, duplicate it in classrooms at school C, D, E, F … There’s no particular reason a high school must even be “elite”. The smart kids should be studying at their own “smart kid” pace and level in any high school.
This sort of nonsense simply points out that the whole “public education” thing is way, way past its sell by date. You want to have education available to all–even those with poor parents–to maintain competency of your population, make the most of your talent. (Obviously you also want eugenic fertility to improve your talent … but we all know that’s Nazi stuff.) But there’s absolutely no reason you can’t just voucher the whole thing off and let parents send their kids to whatever school works best for them–and have all schools competing … rather than just be comfy sinecures for education “professionals”.

ThreeFiveZero, Buffalo’s City Honors HS is a top rated school. It is a criterian school, so you test in, I don’t know about an application fee. Buffalo is now majority minority, but the number of black students at City Honors is a low single digit, mayber 3%. Try as they may, they can not increase black enrollment without AA. A proposal to open a second City Honors, in the hope of enrolling more blacks, showed that those just missing the cut off score are Whites and Asians, not blacks. The Buffalo News published an opinion piece by two black City Honors grads, both claiming to hold doctorates, that said that they had to work twice as hard at CH then Asians and Whites. Yeah, sure, they had to turn in two term papers, take two math tests, give two discertations, blah,blah, blah. Buffalo’s school budget is ONE BILLION DOLLARS. Money is not the problem. I guess the solution is to rename a MLK HS “School OF Extreme Excellence For Black Students ONLY.” All black faculty and administration. Call it reparations, but keep track.

There are websites where one can put in a differential equation and the webiste will show every step that a students needs to show on the homework. You are right about most things you wrote, but one thing I will add is that most middle class and up parents these days don’t want their kids to play football, because of the dangers of brain damage. A former NFL player who is a father himself told me that – “There is no way I’d let my sound play football.”

Absent affirmative action, elite institutions that select for high IQ on a race blind basis would have black enrollments of no more than 1 or 2%, even in areas with large black populations (e.g. Stuyvesant High School in NYC has 1% black enrollment despite the fact that there are 2 million black people in NYC). So it’s not that you are lying or wrong, it’s just that you met a very atypical black person. Such people really do exist but they are very rare. Basing admissions to prestigious institutions like Thomas Jefferson High School solely or predominantly on standardized test scores will ensure that no one but Asian test-taking robots benefit from such institutions and eventually dominate all learned professions and public and private leadership positions. No one in their right mind can believe that this kind of meritocratic homogeneity, where only uni-dimensional test-taking robots are at the top of the pecking order, is good for any society, let alone one as diverse as American society. White folks like to pretend that they’re against any kind of “quota system” or “affirmative action” as a matter of principle. But it will become an intolerable principle when no white parent’s child any longer stands a remote chance of entering TJHS or Harvard because they cannot compete with the Asian test-taking robots in terms of standardized test scores. The typical non-Asian American kid usually has more balanced and variant interests than merely spending all their waking hours practicing test-taking. College applications (at least in my day) inquires about other non-academic activities an applicant was involved in high school, and this information also was used in admissions decision-making. To throw these “intangibles” (as they say in sports) out the window in favor of test score solely or primarily is extremely short-sighted.
(Perhaps TJHS in Arlington, VA should think about resolving the problem of a student body comprised of 73 percent Asian and .001 percent black by establishing competitive basketball and football programs to compete with the other athletic powerhouse high schools in Northern Virginia.)
