Some people take the position that it was all the deaths from AIDs which caused others to have sympathy for gays (not a natural target of sympathy by themselves) thus giving them political power.
It could be, but I don’t think that is the answer myself. I think it has more to do with gays being a symbol of sexual profligacy. It is the same thing with trans, only more so. That is why they are at the top of the pyramid and not blacks.

That comparison is very interesting ! – the two search engines describe exactly opposite directions of causality. Google: AIDS caused gay liberation to prosper and grow, Bing: Gay liberation caused AIDS to prosper and grow. The Google-endorsed falsified narrative (which ignores the direction of time) then seeps into the national consciousness, and very few realize that ii is a falsity pushed into the public consciousness by SJWs at Google.
Curiously, google returns ONE result for “famous american homosexuals” (searched in quotes). When’s the last time google returned merely one result for anything?

This is a case where they are both right.

I saw this unfold in the 80s and it was truly amazing to behold: Given a bit of leeway by society, the homos–their ill-discipline and abnormal sexual practices–immediately create a disease disaster … which (minoritarian logic) proves that they are victims of oppression and need to be liberated and their sexual abnormality normalized.
Seeing this minoritarian “logic” unfold–the media’s ceaseless narrative parroting and incredible propagandizeing; all normal public health measures quickly swept aside as oppressive; women happily jumping onto the weepy AIDS/gay bandwagon (of course with not an honest thought about what the fags actually did to cause this troubling their little heads)–was a bit of kick-in-the-head wakeup call for me, especially about minoritarianism and the absence of logic and reason. But–slow learner–i still had no clue of the sheer insanity and destructiveness Jewish minoritarianism would wrought upon my nation and civilization.
Also, the election of the first Black president quickly leads to a surge in the belief that what is keeping Blacks back is racism.
It all shows that controlling the narrative matters more than facts.
You can however convince the managerial class that is in their best interests to ignore the shareholders and throw themselves a massive party with abundant virtue signaling. This happens in corporations all the time and is cited by corporate raiders and take-over specialists as the reason why their activities should be tolerated.
Look at GE: from Jack Welch onwards a massive and ever growing set of bone-headed acquisitions, growth for growth's sake without concerns about capital required to keep growth occuring or cyclical adjustments and ever greater managerial bonuses and ever greater SJW-ism to cover all of that.

I saw a documentary about the rise of AIDS in the 80s and the political judo was very apparent. One minute, the gay community was arguing that there was absolutely no such thing as AIDS; that this was merely a government campaign to gin up fear and hatred of gays. Then they started dropping like flies and there was no denying that something was afoot. In response to that, the gay community pivoted on a dime and started bitching that the government wasn't doing enough to fund medical research into finding a cure for AIDS.
Gays softened up America, and achieved acceptance by appealing to our women. Through the 70s, 80s and into the 90s most men - even leftist men - still expressed disgust at the very idea of homosexuality, but willy-nilly through outreach to women at work, school, tragic family affiliations, whatever social network, many American women were unwittingly turned into fag hags and advocates for the gays. Similarly, the Black response to the Civil Rights movement was apparently to confirm the racist fears of what Blacks would do once they were no longer being kept down. Rather than causing anyone to question the premises of the Civil Rights movement, surging dysfunction added credence to the feeling that Blacks were being oppressed by society.

Gay men show many of the worst aspects of post-Enlightenment modernity, with their deracination, atomized individualism, cosmopolitanism, hedonism and alienation from their families, communities, traditions and nations. In their own countries their ideal sexual encounter involves objectifying the bodies of male strangers they meet at seedy venues because the men’s names and personalities don’t matter. I think it is probably correct that there was a spiraling effect between Gay Liberation Ideology and HIV/AIDS.
I’m fairly certain that regardless of the efforts of government and society to discourage buggery, homosexuals seem compelled to do it in spite of the consequences. I suspect it has much more to do with $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and donations. I don’t know what % they are of the entire gay population, but there are some very rich gays. And yes, act like you accept gays and will defend their behavior, and you can climb the political ladder quickly. Gov. Gavin Newsom.
In all fairness, the top Bing result is a brief post and a couple of comments on a really obscure web forum of some sort, while Google returns a professionally written article from a reasonably prominent media outlet. The Data Lounge post even has an access counter which increments if I hit refresh, and which currently tells me that the post has had only 58 views. If I had no interest in the politics I would certainly say Google was doing a better job here.
I wonder how much of Google’s apparent bias can be explain by their forcing down obscure sites like Data Lounge, and giving advantage to respectable high volume sites like The Globe and Mail, which are much more likely to have politically correct politics. I don’t see how to explain the “American scientists” thing that way though.

News of the most recent CDC stats on new HIV cases, or on the growing Superbug strain of gonorrhea and its relationship to the gay community, or on any looming or existing medical problem that might have been exacerbated by the behavior of gay males rarely makes it into the national press, and if it is, it’s buried on p. 19. I operate a rather large website, with a lot of editorial content on pages going back a decade and a half.
One thing that happened several years ago was a Google algorithm update called “Panda,” which was implemented more and more until it finally hit peak Panda sometime last spring. One effect of Panda is that large sites have had much of their deindexed altogether and much of the remainder moved into a secondary index that is usually not included in the search results. And the search ranking remaining results has sunk for all pages in sites with a lot of content where much of the content gets few visitors.
Panda was Google’s nuclear option to deal with an explosion of sites that sought to create huge amounts of crap content just to capture the long tail of rare search terms, but a lot of legitimate sites got caught up in it too. Major media sites were manually exempted, it seems. So topics that were mostly discussed on less prominent websites with a lot of content are not going to rank in Google as well as topics discussed in the Globe and Mail. The only way to seemingly fix this ranking penalty is to delete large amounts of back content.
Google is definitely evil, but results like the ones in this post I don’t think are reflective of any particular bias, other than to improve the quality of search results in the face of spammers, done with an attitude of not minding a few false positives and “you’ve got to break a few eggs.”

I absolutely agree with you. The MSM had us young straight guys and girls terrified. I ironically used to say the 1890’s were called the gay 90’s and the 1990’s would be called the stay at home 90’s. It took longer in New York(my hometown where I have lived virtually my entire life) for the gays to garner sympathy from the public, even with the closeted Mayor Koch running the city at that time, but the dam of public opinion burst with the death of Rock Hudson and the sudden (?) realization that many beloved Hollywood stars were secretly gay. Of course, Magic Johnson’s plight gave cover to many on the down-low and removed the stigma (of contracting AIDS) to a great extent, as did the contamination of the blood supply (I knew a man who died of AIDS from receiving blood transfusions after a serious car accident). Gays softened up America, and achieved acceptance by appealing to our women. Through the 70s, 80s and into the 90s most men – even leftist men – still expressed disgust at the very idea of homosexuality, but willy-nilly through outreach to women at work, school, tragic family affiliations, whatever social network, many American women were unwittingly turned into fag hags and advocates for the gays.
