Based on my observations IQ 80 street thugs behave a lot like dumb 12 year old boys trying to one up each other in terms of mischief. Both groups like to scribble swastikas on things sometimes even if they know next to nothing about Jews. It’s an ‘edgy’ thing you’re not supposed to do, so they do it for laughs. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is what happened here.

Dear glow-in-the-dark thought leaders: if you’re going to take that tone, your comment has to make eminent sense. Making a black character white because on all levels but physical he feels white — after years of this clearly being a standard practice — is not a case of writers constrained by facts.

The reggae music wasn't as appealing as Ska to the white skinheads, reggae "riddims" being slow, laid back and lazy. We were struggling students, and didn’t have the cash flow to heat our large place with electric heaters. All we were asking for was to be able to get up in the morning without being able to see fog on our breath. It was two winters of hell.
We all came from towns that had hardly any Jews at all, so these people were our first introduction to their culture, and we weren’t fans. I remember one evening we were all sitting in the living room freezing our asses off, and one of my roommates said, “you know, maybe Hitler was on to something…” we all laughed and agreed.
Whenever I read about any shenanigans about the Jews, ESPECIALLY those born in Israel, my mind always goes back to 4 kids, stuck in NYC, trying to talk an obnoxious Jewish woman wearing an expensive outfit into asking her Puerto Rican super to raise the thermostat on her boiler, so we wouldn’t be freezing our asses off every night, followed her arrogant, dismissive response.
New York born and raised Jews are a mixed bag, but Every Israeli-born Jew I’ve ever been forced via circumstance to deal with have been negative Jewish stereotypes, with no exception, precisely as described in Mien Kamph, and they’re not in the least self-conscious about it, strangely.
If the swastika artist is black or Puerto Rican, it’s likely they have their reason to chalk a swastika on the sidewalk in front of their building. It’s not because they’re bored. It’s because they’re freezing in an apartment full of vermin, and their Jewish landlords telling them to deal wirh it.
At the time, I was on to bigger and better things, so I just made note of it, and moved on. If I were financially stuck with those landlords for a long period of time, I still wouldn’t draw a swastika in my building… but I’d UNDERSTAND…

Bannon appeared to reasoned, polite and respectful, not as the loon the left portrays him. Frum often conceded as much and had no choice but to admit Bannon was a sensible guy. And Bannon continually pointed out that what matters with Trump is less the bluster and more the substance; described his manner as a flash grenade. But was obvious Frum was reduced to muttering mostly emotion and platitudes.

Whenever I read about any shenanigans about the Jews, ESPECIALLY those born in Israel, my mind always goes back to 4 kids, stuck in NYC, trying to talk an obnoxious Jewish woman wearing an expensive outfit into asking her Puerto Rican super to raise the thermostat on her boiler, so we wouldn’t be freezing our asses off every night, followed her arrogant, dismissive response.
New York born and raised Jews are a mixed bag, but Every Israeli-born Jew I’ve ever been forced via circumstance to deal with have been negative Jewish stereotypes, with no exception, precisely as described in Mien Kamph, and they’re not in the least self-conscious about it, strangely.
If the swastika artist is black or Puerto Rican, it’s likely they have their reason to chalk a swastika on the sidewalk in front of their building. It’s not because they’re bored. It’s because they’re freezing in an apartment full of vermin, and their Jewish landlords telling them to deal wirh it.
At the time, I was on to bigger and better things, so I just made note of it, and moved on. If I were financially stuck with those landlords for a long period of time, I still wouldn’t draw a swastika in my building... but I’d UNDERSTAND...Replies: @Rosamond Vincy
That’s any NY landlord. I’ve had Greek and Italian landlords, and they’re all the same. “You have roaches/no hot water/moldy pipes? Why always you have problem? Nobody else have problem, only you!” (Of course, everyone in the building has roaches/no hot water/moldy pipes too.)
North Beach in San Francisco used to actually be Italian. Now it is Chinese and an imitation of its old self. There are still a few old stores / delicatessens that look original / authentic but they are dying. I can remember going to a Halloween party back in the 1980’s right across the street from Washington Square. The three story flat was owned by my friends grandmother who was from Italy. Great party; at midnight we went up on the roof to smoke cigars and drink champagne.

I'm a bit resigned to realizing that I'm old enough to have caught most rock and reggae classics the first time around, thanks to older siblings who had a keen interest. I've never really fully understood the attraction of the skins to ska, since they were in the forefront of the push-back in the 1960s and 1970s against non-white immigrants to the UK—I guess it must have been some kind of working class solidarity at the street level and commonality of clubs and so on.Replies: @anonymous
Skinhead movement grew out off the Jamaican “rude boys” style. I guess there was commonalities in experiences in school, at work, at play. The working class was second class in the UK. Skinheads were mixed in the beginning. The looks/style was appealing in its’ masculinity being defiant and street tough and the music was energetic and their “own thing”. White skins who collected records were supporting the Jamaican recording industry a lot. They should be thanked for making Bob Marley possible …

The reggae music wasn’t as appealing as Ska to the white skinheads, reggae “riddims” being slow, laid back and lazy. And while reggae had nationalist undertones it was Black nationalism … some original white skinheads kept on following and collecting Jamaican records but it must’ve been like a final insult when the washed up hippies found Bob Marley.
Bob Marley’s father was an old British White colonial sexpat pedophile, If one exaggerates a little. According to a Marley biography I’ve read, he met racism in Jamaica when growing up because he wasn’t Black, so he had to overcompensate, learning to speak Patois and growing dreadlocks.
I thought the Marley song “Exodus” was funny because “Exodus” was literally out off Africa and “back to OUR fathers’ land” couldn’t be literal …

There are a lot of screwed up crazy people in the world. Mass media and the internet make them more visible. And the whole thing where every loser who shoots up some public place becomes a household name encourages more losers and nutcases to do the same. We should bury these fuckers in unmarked graves and ban publication of their names and faces. (The nut who shot up the synagogue can wait for his trial–then we hang him and put him in an unmarked grave.)

Zemeckis grew up in the South Side of Chicago (a city with the largest population of Lithuanians outside of Lithuania). Lithuanian neighborhoods in Chicago got ethnically cleansed by diversity and displaced to the outlying burbs. I assume his was one of them, given the location. People of his age tend to remember that. Also, in the post-war Lithuanian immigrant community not voting Republican was considered almost treason.
On a side note, his parents discouraged him from becoming a movie director because they thought it was impossible given his ethnicity (i.e., he was not Jewish). Acceptable career choices in his ethnic milieu were/are 1) engineer and 2) doctor. The arts were considered flaky, not a serious occupation.
