From Tom Wolfe’s 1970 mini-book Mau-Mauing the Flak-Catcher s about the Great Society poverty programs in San Francisco:

Whites were still in the dark about the ghettos. They had been studying the “urban Negro” in every way they could think of for fifteen years, but they found out they didn’t know any more about the ghettos than when they started. Every time there was a riot, whites would call on “Negro leaders” to try to cool it, only to find out that the Negro leaders didn’t have any followers. They sent Martin Luther King into Chicago and the people ignored him. They sent Dick Gregory into Watts and the people hooted at him and threw beer cans. During the riot in Hunters Point, the mayor of San Francsco, John Shelley, went into Hunters Point with the only black member of the Board of Supervisors, and the brothers threw rocks at both of them. They sent in the middle-class black members of the Human Rights Commission, and the brothers laughed at them and called them Toms. Then they figured the leadership of the riot was “the gangs,” so they went in the “ex-gang leaders” from groups like Youth for Service to make a “liaison with the key gang leaders.” What they didn’t know was that Hunters Point and a lot of ghettos were so disorganized, there weren’t even any “key gangs,” much less “key gang leaders,” in there. That riot finally just burnt itself out after five days, that was all.

Organizers are trying to get 1 million people to march on Washington DC this weekend. DC mayor is trying to kick out the National Guard. Sec of Defense is trying to keep the military out of Trump’s hands.

Both the mayor and the Sec of Defense are trying to disarm Trump and Washington DC ahead of this super-massive protest. It’s a set up.

It’s a coup attempt, and both the mayor and the Sec of Defense are in on it. They’re trying to violently throw Trump out. They want to force him to flee and resign in disgrace.

    https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/06/secretary-of-defense-trump-shouldnt-use-insurrection-act.html

But Trump’s the commander in chief. He’s in charge of the National Guard and the military. What he says, goes. He’s the final authority, not the Secretary of Defense, not the mayor, or the Governors. They’ll trying to trick him into thinking he has no authority over the National Guard, and that he can’t use military against civilians, but he does and he can.

Trump needs to get the military, the National Guard, and police together in Washington ahead of this mess and plan carefully. He needs all the help he can get.

Trump needs to stop these caravans of rioters before they even reach Washington. He needs to stop them from leaving their home states as much as possible. Police have been trapping and holding protesters on bridges, etc. Block them in and don’t let them move. New York shut off the avenues into the city for while to keep the looters out. Washington needs to do that. Trump needs to override the mayor’s control of the DC police force, pronto.

Yeah, the funny about black leaders is that most of the people who are super popular with NPR-type whites aren’t even really popular with black people. Like what percent of Ta-Nehisi Coates’ readership is black? Is The-Genius Coates the Ahmed Chalabi of black america?

For instance, Umar Johnson is a very popular black media figure and I’m guessing no one who reads the New York Review of Books has heard of him.

  7. Thomas says:

“Civil unrest” is not as bad for the insurance industry as, say, a hurricane would be. For the most part, unless the building gets completely torched, the property damage from looting can be fixed relatively quickly and cheaply. Some new glass, restocked inventory, and you’re back in business.

What really makes a business loss expensive is when you have long periods of covered business interruption, or all kinds of complicated remediation from something like flooding that affects the structure and takes four different types of outside contractors to fix.

There’s a big fight starting though over business interruption losses from coronavirus. Class actions are already being filled and state legislatures are threatening to rewrite policies after the fact (whether that’s legal or not).

  12. At some point, a lot of businesses may decide that it’s too risky to operate in the cities, so maybe they’ll move out to the safer suburbs. Businesses that benefit from being located in an inner city (like nightclubs) might just close up.

A lot of important and/or “cool” people might move out to the suburbs too, to flee the violence.

We’ll likely also see further growth in people working and shopping from home.

So maybe we’ll see the re-ghettoization of our cities, with prosperity migrating to the suburbs.

It’s worth noting that social distancing is easier out in the suburbs. For a person who can’t enjoy the social activities of the city (nightlife, parties, concerts, festivals), what’s the point of staying there anyway?

White Americans don’t even blame blacks any more or try to get “black leaders” to stop the violence, now they just blame strawmen like ANTIFA, China, Russia, etc. They’ve become so cucked that they try to convince themselves that it isn’t even blacks committing the violence.

The US in 50 years time is just going to be a coffee coloured, miscegenated shithole like Brazil. White Americans have largely just submitted to being consumed into the black and Hispanic gene pool in the way most white Brazilians did decades before them. Most see that as the most desirable outcome even, white America is coming to the conclusion that to stop racism and racial strife, there must be no decernable concept of race to begin with.

  18. @JohnnyWalker123

Agree. It’s basically 1968 all over again. The Urban Renaissance is over. You will no longer want to live and work in crowded, dirty city centers full of people whose motives and immediate future behavior you cannot predict. Your urban living choice will be slow-burn race war slums or expensive semi-militarized oligarch zones under intermittent virus lockdown.

The good news is that de-urbanization won’t be as expensive as it was five decades ago, because most of the productive industry has now already fled to the suburbs or abroad. Most urban core business is useless parasitism (e.g., Wall Street), entirely portable and location-independent (e.g., tech startups), or mundane service industry (e.g., restaurants). There are no longer massive steel or auto plants anchoring urban cores. So most of the cost is just individuals and service business decamping from overpriced urban real estate to suburbs on the I-2xx, I-4xx or I-6xx beltways and ring roads.

The bad news is even this cheaper version will hard to afford in our over-indebted and under-productive economy.

Imagine if all these people were protesting on behalf of someone who was really being oppressed, for instance the Palestinians?

  21. Jake says:

The first point to take to heart from this Wolfe quote is that the sainted lecher, plagiarist King was often ignored, and ridiculed, by blacks in large cities outside the South. That means that in ways whites understand, blacks in the South were better behaved than blacks outside the South during Jin Crow days. The Liberal bias is that is Crow made blacks act worse than they would have otherwise. The rednecks had it right all along: if blacks are forced to behave, they will run riot.

The second thing to take to heart is that the Left has known for a very long time that blacks are natural anarchists, because they are probe to quick, violent action based on cells. Violent action that they love.

It’s basically 1968 all over again.

Maybe even worse than that. At least in the late 60s-early 90s time period, a lot of people were still going into cities for various social events (especially nightlife/parties).

With the virus decimating social life at least for the next few years (maybe even longer than that), what exactly does the city offer?

If you’re socially distancing all the time and telecommuting to the office, is there any reason to go to the city?

  40. Disorganized or not, 50 years on we now live in a Negrocracy. It’s not a true oligarchy because white people are still running things. But every decision from here on out will have to be made in consultation with the Negro Brahmin, protectors of the sacred woke learning that whites are too blinded by white privilege to clearly see. Where MLK and Dick Gregory failed, Black Twitter succeedes and will hold the veto and decide whether something is good for blacks.

  41. pirelli says:
    @Almost Missouri

Partially agree. I think many banks, tech companies, law firms, etc will indeed move their offices out of downtown after this, and I think people in their 30s and older will be less inclined to live downtown.

I don’t think the Urban Renaissance is over though. Young people will still want to live in the city center. I think we’ll see empty office spaces in midtown Manhattan being converted to apartments for 20-somethings who aren’t particularly concerned about pandemics and want to experience urban life. Young women in particular will never lose that atavistic desire to be Where Things Are Happening. Restaurants and bars will reopen and cater to a clientele that’s younger, on average, than before.

So yes, people working from home will prompt businesses to close their downtown offices and move to the burbs (or maybe only keep a conference room sized office for special occasions), but that doesn’t mean fewer people live in city center. More likely that the age composition changes.

I didn’t see them mention NJ but I think they will begin getting their share of disenchanted New York City residents into their suburbs as well.

Also the Post Office came out with this little gem: they received over 80,000 address change forms and half of them are giving out of city addresses…

This could be the death knell for NYC…

  44. Can’t we just cut to the chase and use Napalm on the ghettos? That will burn it out.

Liberals are largely clueless about the problems of black ghettos so they can be manipulated by professional minorities whose fulltime job is acting as a spokesperson for minorities (i.e. Jamelle Bouie, Toni Morrison, Obama etc.)

Have some compassion for my ancestor. The Jamestown colony was failing. The richest man in Jamestown was Abraham Piersay. He had brought with him many bondsmen on contracts. Most of them were poor folks from the slums of London. They typically signed contracts for seven years of service. The problem was most didn’t stay alive more than one year. The Londoners couldn’t survive the subtropical climate and the diseases.

The colony was failing. No one could survive working in the fields. Piersay was asked by the other colony council members to go out and acquire some black slaves. He sailed north and met some Dutch slavers and brought them back. They saved the colony. This was after the the Roanoke colony was lost and before the successful Plymouth colony was established. Those early colonies were quite precarious. In Virginia the difference was acquiring black slaves from the Dutch.

I have cousin who is interested in genealogy who claims I am a direct descendant of Piersay. I don’t know if this is true. But I once told two girls I was descended from the man that introduced black slavery in America. They were shocked and horrified.

There were a number of cities that had absolutely no riots and no violence in the Watts – King Assassination interval. They were almost all in the south. New Orleans was one of them. Did Houston have any riots? If they did they were nothing like the ones in CA and MI and NJ and there was probably a higher % of poor blacks in Houston at that time.

Registrars of voters and their SEIU staff regularly swing key results by +/- 5 points. Add other layers of abuse – dead men and illegals voting, unpurged registrations of voters who have moved, etc. and you easily get to 10-15% of “votes” controlled by the machine in Democrat-controlled areas.
