Announcement to federal workers: You get today off from work for racial reckoning reasons.

Honest. I’m not making this up to try to get you fired. Congress and Biden just gave you Friday off for some obscure event in Texas history. It’s all part of the Great Letharginization that began in March 2020.

So go back to sleep.

  1. Steve, you sound like you’re on the piss! Good for you, mate!

The thing about drink is it comes on slow with a two speed brain where one part of you is mellow and the other is working over time. In good drinkers these two combine, I hope it works for you!

What are you drinking? Today I tried a six of 4 Pines Amber Ale on special at Dan Murphy’s alongwith a Bulldog Dry London Gin for these fantastic negronis my mrs has introduced me to, and I gotta stop myself from drinking her \$90 Four Pillars (best gin in the world – and wow, I gotta agree, smooth as)).

Here’s one for you recent to me. Just how good was Mick Taylor?

Some Federale workers have been putting in full days during Covid. My educated guess is that in this era they have been “working” minimally via zoom. Doing 10 hours work per week. Just enough to maintain their particular Federale agency while backlogs pile up. I understand that in the private sector, you work remotely, then you are monitored to see that you zoom in a more or less full workday. What Gov’t agency on any level would allow this? Very few. I am talking Gov’t agencies on all levels. State, county, cities y Los Federales.

A you tuber has been mentioned here who walks and bicycles around DC these days. Daytime, no one is in the streets. A Federale ghost town. (I looked at his videos) The mass of Fed workers in DC are working remotely.

So now these mostly useless eaters get another lazy bones day off. Another way for the Dems to ensure their votes. Now 13% of our population has two Federal holidays devoted to them. I don’t think much of the private sector will be taking off Juneteenth. Though they may be forced to allow their black slackers to take it off for a paid holiday. The biracial ones too. How about the octoroons? How about if you are an Eskimo, Aleutian Islander or Pacific Islander? Will they be able to finesse a paid day off in honor of our encroaching 360 degrees of awesome Negritude run America?

What percentage of Gov’t workers look at their 25 year calendar up on the wall 10 times daily? Ticking off each day until their retirement is fully vested.

  30. I think Mr. Sailer is extremely worked up by this holiday, because it documents the perpetuation of de jure slavery in the US some time after the end of the Civil War. This is his small contribution to the image of the Beacon on the Hill, an imaginary country that was always better than the other countries, even in 1619, when it was not a country.

Mr. Sailer has this tendency of claiming stuff he doesn’t like happened very far in the past, and so shouldn’t count. It is therefore surprising that the main character in his wet dreams is Thatcher. She never lost her charms, even when physically rotten. Jokes aside, in his mind, the superiority of Whites is proven by Isaac Newton, while the superiority-squared he sees in Jews originates with some customs they had in the Middle Ages.

Depending on his mood, sometimes history matters, and sometimes it is the best evidence for negating even today’s patterns. Historicist “who whom”.

It’s going to be hard to distinguish any uptick today and tomorrow from the background noise of increased violence. For example, last night in Philly there were 11 shot and 3 killed, which nowadays is just par for the course.

For the most part, these shootings are black on black and take place in the ‘hood so that they don’t register on white people except as items in the local news. Once in a while the brothers will decide to get real while they are downtown and hit a passing white person, but this is fairly rare.

I was in Manhattan this week and took the temperature of the streets and things appeared pretty calm (although I was not out at 2AM when things often get funky). It’s still yuppie/tourist heaven. Then again my benchmark is the late ’80s when I lived in NY – in between then and now, thing got much better and now somewhat worse but still a lot better than that period. I saw a fair # of homeless on the streets and in the subway but they are usually (but not always) merely annoying rather than dangerous – just picking thru trash cans for food and begging and so on. The smell of cannabis is everywhere but cannabis tends to make people more mellow rather than more violent.

If I recall, Karl Rove was running around in the late 90s making hay out of the good sign-ups Houston GOP had at local Juneteenth events.

In Texas, it does have a long history among freedman and blacks through the 20th century.

But, its just a state holiday without much national meaning. The real day is Dec 6 when 13th amendment was ratified, freeing slaves in Delaware.

I wonder why no one is talking about this?

Delaware ratified 13th amendment in 1901.

And Johnson deserved it – suggesting to remove a day for a group that votes significantly Republican (Italian Americans) in favor of a day for a group that votes 90 percent Dem was really stupid.

The solution is to vote out these spineless Republicans – all but 14 House members need to be primaried out of office. And cut the federal workforce anyway. Republicans need to represent the interests of their voters or they need to be out of office.

    I say:

Great Letharginization is a good one and it brings to my mind the Gentle Collapsing that David Byrne was singing about in the song The Overload from Talking Heads.

A lot of people bring up Joy Division when talking about The Overload but I don’t know what that means because I don’t know much about Joy Division.

More internet fun says that Talking Heads was trying to emulate the sound of Joy Division but they had never really heard too much Joy Division so maybe those baby boomers in Talking Heads were trying to recreate the precise feeling of attempting to duplicate something that they had no reference to directly and they were attempting to produce a sound similar to what they thought Joy Division sounded like.

    Lyrics to The Overload:

    A terrible signal
    Too weak to even recognize
    A gentle collapsing
    The removal of the insides

    I’m touched by your pleas
    I value these moments
    We’re order than we realize
    …in someone’s eyes

    A frequent returning
    And leaving unnoticed
    A condition of mercy
    A change in the weather

    A view to remember
    The center is missing
They question how the future lies
    …in someone’s eyes
    The gentle collapsing
    Of every surface
We travel on the quiet road
    …the overload

They can make every day a paid holiday for all workers. No need to do any work while we are celebrating the fact that Black Lives Matter. We can start by declaring the period between Juneteenth and the 4th of July the Season of Liberation, which will be celebrated annually with illuminations from burning businesses and undocumented shopping. Businesses will be kept afloat by “forgivable loans” – in other words gifts from the Federal government. The government will just issue bonds to pay for it all. The Federal Reserve will buy the bonds – this is equivalent to lifting yourself into the air by pulling on your shoelaces. This won’t trigger inflation, no not at all. It’s true that everything that I buy suddenly costs a lot more money but there’s no inflation – nothing to see here folks, move along.

White Core Americans Born After 1965 Will Topple The JEW/WASP Ruling Class of the American Empire And They Will Do It By Deploying The OVERLOAD STRATEGY of Mass Debt Repudiation and Global Financial Implosion.

The Federal Reserve Bank is a GLOBAL ORGANIZED CRIME SYNDICATE owned and controlled by evil money-grubbing plutocrat scumbags and these Federal Reserve Bank Ruling Class Criminal Scumbags are using mass legal immigration and mass illegal immigration as weapons to attack and destroy the European Christian ancestral core of the USA.

The baby boomers would have been financially liquidated with no chance of recovery if the Federal Reserve Bank had not bailed them out after the 2007-2008 global financial implosion. Their real estate holdings — residential and commercial, their stock and bond holdings and their pensions would have been vaporized. The decade-long monetary extremism exertions of the Fed has been for the benefit of the baby boomers.

This point must be stressed over and over again in a political campaign. There is no baby boomer with any decency or honor who would say any different. This has been a globalized phenomenon where older voters are bribed to keep their mouths shut while the young are getting ready to heave the debt repudiation monkey wrench into the gears of the globalized central bank death spiral machine.

Well, after a while these things have a way of expanding out from the ‘hood, and the ‘hood itself expands outward to envelop formerly lower middle class neighborhoods.

A PPD responding to 500+ murders per annum (and the other gunplay that doesn’t end in death) means fewer police resources to preempt muggings and carjackings and so forth.

  51. Jack D says:

Nowadays, black fertility is not much higher than white (although the number of blacks is still increasing due to immigration and we haven’t even begun to fully tap the potential immigration from the future billions who will want to better their lives by leaving Africa).

However, white people sure have done a number on themselves by turning themselves into a minority in what used to be “their” country. History shows us that minorities often don’t get treated well so if you have the choice between remaining a majority and becoming a minority you are much better off staying in the majority. When you become a minority in your own country, the new majority will tear down the statues of your heroes and take their faces off of the money and you will find it more difficult to get a job or deal with the government bureaucrats. It has been this way for thousands of years (and that’s if you are lucky – if you are unlucky, the new majority will kill your men and take your women). But people act for individual reasons and not collective ones.

Later we can get rid of Washington’s Birthday and celebrate the birthday of Malcolm X instead.

I thought we already did that except with MLK.

Regarding George Washington’s birthday (emphasis mine).

On June 28, 1968, Congress passed the “Uniform Monday Holiday Act”. This law was to provide uniform annual observances of certain legal public holidays on Mondays. The act was also created to provide federal employees with more three-day weekends. Under this new law, Washington’s birthday would be celebrated on the third Monday of February, partially losing the value and identity of the importance of his birthday. Washington’s birthday has not been celebrated on the actual day of his birth since the law took effect in 1971.

Note that this year Presidents’ Day (officially still Washington’s birthday) was Monday, February 15th when obviously George Washington’s birthday was also a Monday, February 22nd. Here is a schedule showing the dates for 2017-2029 and the pattern of February 15-21 (i.e. third Monday as in excerpt above).

Presumably the choice of the third rather than fourth Monday of February (which would actually fall on Washington’s birthday sometimes) was because Lincoln’s birthday was February 12th and that places the holiday between the two birthdays.

P.S. MLK day in 2018 was his actual birthday of January 15th.

P.P.S. Random factoid. The AP Stylebook (no) and Chicago Manual of Style (yes) disagree on whether Presidents’ Day should have an apostrophe.

  57. This story accompanied the original announcement yesterday————

    From USA Today–

Who are the 14 House Republicans who voted against a Juneteenth holiday? And why?

Heretics and Unbelievers. Your votes shall be noted. We are embarking on our own Great Leap Forward, with similar goals, though perhaps not as many messy deaths.

  58. I do not mind a holiday celebrating the end of institutional hereditary slavery. Better than at least one other holiday, but I should keep my mouth shut about which holiday(s) I would get rid of in its place.

Slavery did NOT end with the 13th Amendment. There is plenty of slavery in the US. Human trafficking, etc. The lady in the “oriental massage parlor” may be a slave or indentured servant, and may not be willingly performing her trade. Tomato workers are often kept in slavery.

I think one of the biggest reasons why I oppose our system of illegal immigration is because it sometimes, too often, leads to slavery.

Ah, but did the 13th Amendment get rid of legal slavery? Nope.
Slavery is still legal in this country. Look at the 13th Amendment carefully. It allows for slavery as a form of punishment. The old chain gang, where convict laborers were literally worked to death, for example. But we don’t do that anymore right? Well, what about private prisons, and prison farms, etc.

But we now have a holiday to mark the end of legal, institutionalized, hereditary race-based slavery!
    Two cheers for us!

    Am I too cynical?

  59. Clyde says:

If I remember right George Washington’s birthday used to be a heavily advertised retail sales day. Automobile dealers especially, would splash out for entire one and two page advertisements in newspapers for his birthday. All gone of course with MLK day, which was cowardly a sop to our perpetually perturbed 13%. That just just got a more ridiculous sop with JuneFreakin’Teenth day. Which my opinion, might turn into a big day for BBQ joints as years progress. With ribs specials to promote more diabetes and obesity in the “community”.

For me, MLK and Juneteenth are Federalized Gibbs Days to not pay any mind to.
Arizona and New Hampshire were the last holdouts on instituting MLK Day statewide. Arizona was roundly criticized and iirc the NFL was going to take away their upcoming Super Bowl hosting if they did not cave. They had a conservative Republican governor who resisted as long as he could.

How MLK Day Changed the Super Bowl
The United States observed Martin Luther King Jr. Day for the first time in 1986. Although the holiday was not observed in every state, Gov. Bruce Babbitt declared it an Arizona holiday through an executive order. This made Arizona one of the first 27 states to observe the holiday to honor King.

When Gov. Evan Mecham was elected a year later, the holiday was abolished. Mecham thought the holiday was created illegally because it was through an executive order, not a bill in the state legislature. Although the holiday officially passed in the state legislature in 1989, there was still controversy surrounding it in Arizona, and a ballot initiative was created for residents to vote on.

In the midst of the controversy, the NFL was deciding which city would host Super Bowl XXVII. Arizona received the Cardinals football team from Missouri in 1988, so the NFL was looking at Sun Devil Stadium as a possibility.

The NFL hesitated to award the Super Bowl to Arizona because of the issues surrounding King’s holiday. State leaders convinced the NFL owners that the issues would be resolved, and Arizona was awarded the Super Bowl with one stipulation: If anything was done to dishonor King, the committee would move the Super Bowl elsewhere.

In 1990, opponents to the national holiday succeeded and the ballot initiative was rejected by Arizona voters. Many NFL players took notice.

The NFL selection committee rescinded Super Bowl XXVII and awarded it to Pasadena, Calif., costing Arizona potentially \$350 million in business revenue.

Finally, in 1993, Arizona became the first state to make MLK Day an official holiday by popular vote. After the holiday was passed, the NFL awarded Arizona with Super Bowl XXX, which took place in 1996.

The average Federal employee gets 11 federal holidays (counting June 18), 13 sick days, and 20 vacation days per year. Add in 104 weekend days and the average Federal employee has 148 non working days per year. That is 40% of the year. So they have the peasants beat.

As to the massage parlor thing, better to ban adultery and then enforce the law. That way when someone’s husband goes down to the bordello, you can punish him for a crime involving an actual victim.

(Or, Dr. Fauci — “stay tuned.”) She put me on hold. Five minutes later she returned with the answer (regular service.).

  63. I’ll be the outlier here: I think a Juneteenth national holiday is a good–or at least reasonable idea.

I’ll grant the obscurity aspect. I took an internship at Johnson Space Center after graduation. My mentor there–a senior engineer–was a 40-something black guy, good guy. (A legit version of the kind of family man blacks that used to be in commercials … before the minoritarians got bold enough to really rub white gentiles nose in it with black men and blond women in every commercial.) I was there all of a couple/three weeks and the guy told me “won’t be in Monday it’s Juneteenth”. As a midwesterner i’d never heard of it, so he explained the background. Blacks in Texas all celebrate with big barbeques with family/friends. (I guess Steve got the heck out of Houston and went home to SoCal for summer vacation–wise man.)

But it seems that Texas blacks sort of won the marketing battle and Juneteenth has become a general black “end of slavery” bbq holiday.

Slavery–though ubiquitous in human history since the neolithic–is a terrible practice. (Along with serfdom, colonialism, empire, war … something good to see the back of.) Blacks are part of America and are entitled to a holiday to celebrate it’s end. It’s a much more legit American holiday than Columbus day (Italians are less numerous and don’t really have much to do with the development of American history) or the stupid MLK day. Who the hell wants a Monday off in January? Wouldn’t you rather have a nice bbq holiday in June?

I have my opinions about blacks net contribution to America. (Negative.) But unless you’ve got a plan to say cut loose SC, GA, AL, MS and pack ’em all in there or get them all to hop on planes back to Africa, this sort of thing is reasonable for building a nation. (You’ll note the modern Irish flag has an orange bar. That’s good sense. You don’t have to love everyone, you just have to be able to get along.)

Whites should fight back to kill off all the minoritarian ant-white stuff. And go back to majoritarianism and the enforcement of civilized white norms–at least anywhere whites are–including putting black criminals in jail, expelling misbehaving blacks from school, making blacks “turn that shit down”, etc. But giving blacks an official end-of-slavery holiday to celebrate something legitimately worth celebrating is good sense. (Send black cops out to arrest the more “exuberant” celebrators and collect the bodies.)

However, white people sure have done a number on themselves by turning themselves into a minority in what used to be “their” country.

Why do you put “their” inside quotation marks? Is it not their country?

Straw-manning. According to your logic it’s in the public interest to close down on Dia de los muertos, the Hungry Ghosts Festival, and Nowruz (lunar calendar– that’ll be a fun one) since they are all wholesome and family friendly. I’d be surprised if Karl Rove hasn’t already suggested this.

How could this stunt possibly constitute the solution and end of anything, rather than a raise in the multi-cult poker tournament? And of course Columbus Day is a crock too and Italians didn’t need more days off. Christmas wasn’t even taken off, when not falling on a Sunday, before Germans infested this country.

‘The freedmen are advised to remain quietly at their present homes and work for wages. They are informed that they will not be allowed to collect at military posts and that they will not be supported in idleness either there or elsewhere.’

  76. I find this latest manifestation of the negrolatry of the USA’s ruling class, whether feigned or a true symptom of psychopathology, both appalling and frightening. I have come up with several possible explanations for this latest insane buffoonery:

    (1) Our ruling class has conceived this as part of what they imagine is a clever ploy to diminish the dysfunctional impact of Negros on the country by reducing their numbers. Sops like this to the USA’s dysfunctional Negro population will fuel that dysfunction to an extent that will ultimately crash Negro population growth and reduce the overall impact of Negro dysfunction to manageable levels. (This is the kindest and least frightening explanation that I could imagine. I don’t think a policy like this would actually work as intended.)

    (2) Our ruling class is made up of cowardly poltroons who are terrified of Negro mob violence and will adopt any foolish policy which they imagine might forestall or at least diminish such violence.

    (3) This is just further virtual signalling on the part of a ruling class which has become as dysfunctional as the Negro portion of its subjects.

    (4) This is just one more instance of the ruling class’s war on Whites.

It’s true that any new federal spending generally should be offset by a cut in the Leviathan elsewhere. And it’s true that there are at least several hundred billion dollars in war/occupation spending we can cut without affecting the safety or quality of life of 99% of Americans. Same for domestic federal bureaucratic spending.

A country can be productive and advanced, yet actually have a majority of people who are happy and healthy people in part because they always have a good chunk of time off to rest, exercise, and care for their families.

As for federal holidays contributing to the deficit, their cost is utterly inconsequential next to our massive military spending or our massive domestic spending.

In fact, the cost of 3 additional federal holidays (one for every month that doesn’t have one — March, April, August) could very, very easily be covered by closing a handful of US military bases far from our shores. And the “productivity cost” of the new holidays should be offset in exactly that way.

Rather than deny people existing federal holidays or resist new ones to “save money”, why not let them have it and cut some other government program or agency that is useless or even destructive for the American people?

And rather than begrudge the extra day of relaxation and family time for the tens of millions of people who will get to take it — most government, school, and bank employees — why not ensure that most of the rest of the citizenry are actually allowed to take the day off as well?

Yes and no. People want nice, tidy narratives to history, and holidays reflect that. I’m basically in a similar position in not really caring one way or the other about the holiday itself. If black people want to celebrate Juneteenth, that’s their affair, and if it is a federal holiday now, good for them.

What I’m leery of is the political context in which this is taking place. In an era where elites are openly pushing for teaching children that they are innately evil because of their race and progressive talking heads openly engage in Civil War 2.0 fantasies, then the notion that this is truly about racial healing is a no sell for me in a way it wouldn’t have been 10 years ago. 80. Wilkey says:

But giving blacks an official end-of-slavery holiday to celebrate something legitimately worth celebrating is good sense.

A reasonable statement, except that they already have such a holiday – Martin Luther King Day. “We” won’t be getting the new holiday off. Mostly only government workers and a few people in a handful of other industries will be so lucky. Plus, Juneteenth lands smack dab between Memorial Day and Independence Day, which makes it totally redundant.

The law creating Monday holidays should be eliminated, or at least modified. Four years out of seven a holiday will naturally create a three day weekend, anyway. Either because it falls on Friday or Monday, or because it will be observed on one of those days in place of the Saturday or Sunday it lands on. Just move it on the other three weekdays, if you really must. Moving the day around almost every year trivializes the day you’re supposed to be honoring.

Slavery is still legal in this country. Look at the 13th Amendment carefully. It allows for slavery as a form of punishment.

Prison is the involuntary deprivation of liberty, thus it is a form of slavery. NOTE: that’s not chattel slavery, which implies ownership, convicts are not owned by the state, they are deprived of liberty.

Convicts do a lot of work from the old chestnuts of making license plates and rock breaking to more modern forms of light industry.

Based on the theory of rights, as one deprives another of his rights (property, liberty, or life), so the offender may be deprived of his rights, which seems pretty logical in a minimalist, libertarian way. In the real world, YMMV.

A bright green dot is displayed next to our names and avatars and shown to everyone else’s messaging systems on their computers. If you’re not active on your computer for more than 5 minutes, the light goes off and how long you’re away after that is timed, displayed, and logged. There’s no way to change this light and active setting as its set by the company’s IT admin.

Slavery was formally abolished on December 6, 1865, with the ratification of the 13th Amendment, though I don’t know whether there were many-or any-blacks still practically enslaved by that time. Those in the Confederate states had already been freed by the Emancipation Proclamation. Several Union border states had slavery, but my impression is that the peculiar institution was breaking down throughout the war, with slaves heading for free states in large numbers and some owners freeing or abandoning their slaves.

  145. @AnotherDad

I don’t care that we have another federal holiday. But they shouldn’t have called it “Juneteenth National day of Independence.” Pretty sneaky language there, somewhat establishing a parallel national narrative/mythos. That probably won’t be obvious for a few years, however. “Commemoration” or “Emancipation” would have been more appropriate terminology.

Also pretty silly to argue Columbus isn’t relevant to American history. Anyone who isn’t Amerindian is here because of him, for better or worse. As for “Italians not contributing to the development of America”…..hmm. Interesting we are all “Americans” if that is indeed the case. Guess that name simply materialized out of thin air.

    Semantics matter.

  146. I told my young son that tomorrow (Saturday) will be a new federal holiday because yesterday Congress passed and the president signed a law saying that the nineteenth of June is a holiday called Juneteenth. He thought my joke was sort of funny, but mostly just silly.

Scientists can’t directly observe black holes with telescopes that detect x-rays, light, or other forms of electromagnetic radiation. Once a month or so I check out the “Research and Studies” column at “The Journal of Blacks in Higher Education.” There is usually something there worth my time. Today:

African Americans Not Making Progress Into the Top Ranks of Academic Surgery Positions

A new study … finds that among the upper echelons of academic surgery, Black representation has remained flat over the past six years.

… in surgery departments across the U.S. between 2013 and 2019 … the percentage of full professors and department chairs identifying as Black continued to hover in the single digits.

… only one Black woman ascended to the role of department chair, up from zero prior to 2015 …

Over the six-year study period, the share of surgery department chairs and full professorships held by White doctors decreased by 4 to 5 percentage points, but it was Asian faculty who filled the void, rising by 4 percentage points over the same timeframe. Male Black chairs actually lost ground during the study period….

The full study, “Diversification of Academic Surgery, Its Leadership, and the Importance of Intersectionality,” was published on the website of JAMA Surgery.

Presumably, to get an high academic surgery position you would have had a successful career doing surgery. How many ace surgeons are black? I mean, be real.

Charles Murray’s new book has circumstantial evidence that black physicians in general are underqualified, including much higher discipline, investigation, and complaint rates. But Murray pointed out how hard it is to get hold of such data. It kind of slips out here and there, then the holes are plugged.

Not sure why so many are objecting to this.
    1) My understanding is that Juneteenth as a celebration has arisen organically over decades or more. That’s good! It’s not some top down crap pushed by woke academics, even if they try to latch on. Anything that turns black Americans towards engagement with ACTUAL HISTORY is good.
    2) It is grounded in the role that the nation as a WHOLE (obviously mostly white Americans then but not entirely) played in ending slavery. That’s good! Slavery was wrong! (I’m a quasi-historicist but you gotta choose your battles…) And AMERICANS (who were mostly white) played the key role in ENDING IT not just in the USA but worldwide.
Maybe the wokesters missed these points, but that’s good too… it just reiterates the fact that they are total MORONS.
In a sensible country, Juneteenth would replace MLK day (great speech but the sanctimony…) as a holiday that is the de facto black version of St. Patrick’s Day. Blacks need to be just another American ethnic group.

Once upon a time I was assigned to the Pentagon. There was a civil servant at the end of the hall. The story was that no one knew what did … but they were sure he did it well.

Then, he retired; he just walked out the door. The rest of the story: the people assigned to clean up his mess said that he apparently did nothing the last year in the office. The office had stacks of photos from the Internet of condos in the Caribbean; it appeared he had spent his last year planning his retirement. Next to the stacked photos of condos were stacks of porn photos apparently accessed and printed on a government computer and printer. The horror of it all!

I retired from the military. I eventually landed a job as director of marketing for a state government in “flyover” country. There was a civil servant in a cube at the end of the row. The story was that no one knew what he did … but they were sure he did it well. Besides, his father was a “big deal” in the state’s preeminent newspaper … “Leave him alone!”

I left the state government a year later. The guy theoretically worked for me, but I never did learn what he did.

I since have learned about the “sinecures” at Permex in Mexico and the school system in Puerto Rico … being paid for little or no work that, in some cases, can be inherited by family members. My suspicion is that this is also occurring and is more widespread than we realize in a broad brush of civil servants in the United States.

But perhaps this new emphasis on “equity” instead of “equality of opportunity” will help us achieve our goal as a country … and that is to hasten our debauchery as we race to the bottom to more quickly achieve the Third World status we so desperately crave.

Not all of the nations immediately banned the practice, and the eventual demise of slavery came slowly. Three of the five nations abolished slavery at the end of the Civil War, the Choctaw and Chickasaw nations did not. Nations that governed themselves did not have the immediate need to get rid of slavery, thus causing those two nations to be much slower to remove slavery. I see no problem with ensuring people one national holiday each month. Nor do I see a problem with a holiday commemorating the end of slavery (despite the odd focus on Texas slaves).
