The Carolina Panthers’ speedy running back Christian McCaffrey, who is second in the NFL with 105 yards rushing per game, is bidding to become the first white player to lead the NFL in rushing since Jim Taylor of the legendary 1962 Green Bay Packers 57 years ago.
McCaffrey’s 2019 performance shouldn’t be surprising. He was third in the NFL last year in combined yards from scrimmage with 1,098 rushing and 867 receiving, while at Stanford he was runner-up for the 2015 Heisman Trophy.
Despite McCaffrey’s fame, this year’s Madden videogame depicted him as black. After all, game-breaking NFL backs (McCaffrey has scored ten touchdowns in his first seven games) are virtually never white.
His witty mom, Lisa, tweeted in response to her son:

Christian’s speed wasn’t inherited just through his father’s bloodline. His mother was a star soccer player at Stanford.
And her father, the late ophthalmological surgeon Dr. Dave Sime, was the last white American to medal in the Olympic 100-meter dash, the race to determine the world’s fastest man. …
So Christian’s speed shouldn’t come as a surprise. As his mother joked to Sports Illustrated in 1998:
“That’s why Ed and I got together. So we could breed fast white guys.” …
There’s nothing terribly controversial about suggesting that hereditary genetics play a role in Christian McCaffrey’s football success. …
But, in the Current Year, many people suffer the kind of brain shutdown that Orwell called “crimestop” when it is suggested that some of the same hereditary reasons the McCaffreys and Dibabas are fast might also help explain why, on average, blacks tend to run quicker than whites.

In truth, the common assumption need be that the reality of racial differences must be exposed to the public to prevent mass violence.
Too many blacks = ultra-violence.

The sprint-endurance dichotomy in running is interesting. For example, if you had to wager: At what distance would Usain Bolt still be able to beat the world’s fastest marathoner?

A runner of his type is almost unbeatable over 5K and 10K provided that the early pace of the race is not close to world record pace. If the early race is very, very fast, it drains the speed of the fast finishers, but Olympic races are usually tactical rather than fast.

Christian can clearly run. I would be interested in what Earl “The Tyler Rose” would say about him. He just stepped in it, claiming that only black quarterbacks should be recruited to play at big time college and pro teams. He even dissed Sam Ehlinger. Christian McCaffrey is an amazing athletic talent, both fast AND quick, and can, and does, play multiple positions on offense.
I worry about his longevity, though.
He is overused in the Panther offense, on the field for virtually every play, I believe. His compact body type and low to the ground stature may protect him somewhat, along with his great speed and strength (take a look at the kid’s biceps!), but sooner or later the load and endless contact are going to catch up to him, especially since he busts his gut on every play.

I would only add that the load and endless contact will always be present in the NFL because there are no slow, small players with poor reflexes at that level of sport.
4.8 40 yard dashes are now the average for NFL defensive ends. At full speed most RBs and mobile QBs will be lucky to get by them. Forget it once those RBs and QBs lose a step.

White Americans are obsessed with sport, in American culture the archetypal all-American “alpha male” is an athlete. The problem is non-whites, particularly blacks, outperform them at almost all sports commonly played in America which in the American social hierarchy puts blacks at the top as the ultimate “alpha males”.
This is also true in Europe with football (soccer) to a large extent, although Europeans generally don’t regard football players as the ultimate “alpha males” in the same way Americans do with their sportsmen, so just because there are a lot of black football players in Europe that doesn’t put blacks at the top of the social hierarchy in the same way as it does in America.
I always think Scotsman Alan Wells should get a mention in the Sailer reference to the pre 1984 100m finals.
A formidable powerhouse type of runner, some questioned whether his 100m win in Moscow in 1980 was devalued, but he beat Carl Lewis and Stanley floyd less than 2 weeks later in the prestigious Koblenz international meet, and dominated that summer season and beyond.
This was in the heyday of track in the modern period, particularly middle distance.

Not sure why this is my first comment, but consider that it’s not speed (or jumping ability) per se that makes blacks often more suited for positions like WR and CB, but instead arm length. This is also a big deal in basketball and hand-to-hand combat sports.
Longer arms means that, ceteris paribus, you have an advantage reaching out to swipe at the ball, or reaching up to grab (or shoot) it. It’s a better advantage than speed or jumping, actually, because you don’t have to give up some body control trying to increase your speed or by leaving your feet.
White guys generally have shorter arms. This might account for some advantage in sports that require the use of a tool like a bat or a racquet, where longer arms might making controlling the tool with precision at the distant contact point more difficult.

In the video below we see some Farah finishes, but in the last one, which is over 1500 meters, he finishes 4th against a world class field, not being able to accelerate as much as over longer distances.
A runner of his type is almost unbeatable over 5K and 10K provided that the early pace of the race is not close to world record pace. If the early race is very, very fast, it drains the speed of the fast finishers, but Olympic races are usually tactical rather than fast.

A local private high school recruited for both football and hockey. This rings true. I can still remember in 3rd grade during recess lining up with 10 to 15 other boys and racing about 20 yards. There were 3 boys whom I could never catch. I looked at the way they moved their arms, and how they took strides. But I could never compete with them. It was very humbling. And this was in one class of a small town school. Imagine this competition taking place in every grade level in every town in my state and nation along with the rest of the world. He is overused in the Panther offense, on the field for virtually every play, I believe. His compact body type and low to the ground stature may protect him somewhat, along with his great speed and strength (take a look at the kid's biceps!), but sooner or later the load and endless contact are going to catch up to him, especially since he busts his gut on every play.

Wrong Texas team. Campbell played for the Houston Oilers, Jones was signed by the Dallas Cowboys after his Jet days(though I don't know if he ever played for them. I don't know. Sebastian Coe held world records at both distances. When I saw your comment I thought about Williamson County, Tennessee — which is close by Columbia, Tennessee — and a couple of guys named James Blackwell Pewitt and William Hartwell Pewitt came to my mind.

If Michelle loves her own people so much, why — when she and her husband went house-hunting in Chocolate City — didn’t she insist on buying in Anacostia, rather than 90+% white Kalorama? With the money they’ve made from their (ghost-written) memoirs, they could have bought up and renovated an entire block of delapidated houses in Anacostia or a neighborhood like it, creating affordable housing for several needy black families, and in the process, set a fine example for other rich blacks by using their good fortune to help their own.

I was referring to a play in the U. of Texas vs. Rice game in 1976. Texas had the ball 4th and 1 at midfield. The Rice defense knew the great Earl Campbell, playing fullback in the Wishbone, was coming right at them so they were super energized to make a stop they could brag about. But Texas instead faked it to Campbell and pitched out to Lam Jones, who had finished 6th in the Olympic 100m dash a couple of months earlier. None of the five guys in the world who were faster than him were playing defense for Rice that night, so … touchdown.

For younger people, Jerry West is white.
Jerry West considered going on the pro golf tour after retiring from the NBA. He played in a lot of big money matches at Riviera and was known for Nicklaus-length drives.
I suspect his personality wasn’t suited for grinding away on the pro tour: he’s super competitive in a Michael Jordan-like way and gets down on himself when he doesn’t win.
Campbell was kind of difficult to bring down. He could carry a whole lot of defenders downfield.
Walter Payton’s daughter married in 2013 and his son married in 2009 – both to whites.
Perhaps this used to be common knowledge, but Lam isn’t Johnny’s actual middle name. Darrell Royal gave him this as a nickname because he was from Lampasas, to contrast him with Johnny Ham Jones from Hamlin.
Lam Jones won the gold as part of the 4×100 relay that summer in Montreal, and also came in 6th in the 100m. Interestingly, in the final heat, there were 5 blacks and 3 whites. The 3 whites were from the Soviet Union, East Germany, and Bulgaria. I’m sure that’s not a coincidence.
Finally, Lam died in March of myeloma. He was 60.
