From The Hollywood Reporter:

Oscars’ Diversity Dilemma: A Mathematical Solution to Parity in Voting

by Brian McLaughlin 1/29/2016 6:00am PST

Los Angeles Film School instructor Brian McLaughlin has a quick fix to mitigate the old white guy factor.

How to address the Academy’s diversity issue?

… So what to do? I would like to propose a mathematical solution, since I teach statistics at L.A. Film School.

He teaches what at the what?

There is a simple change that could be made so that Oscar voting would be weighted to correlate to the demographics of the moviegoing public.

Each year, the Motion Picture Association of America publishes the Theatrical Market Statistics report. In it, they slice and dice domestic and international movie attendance in every way imaginable. Using that report as a baseline, each voter’s ballot could be assigned an appropriate weight so that the total weighted votes would mirror the gender and racial breakdown of the domestic film audience.

… The same could be done with ethnicity, although the math in this example isn’t as simple. Minorities represent about 37 percent of moviegoers but only 7 percent of the Academy. So ballots of minority voters would need to be weighted about 7.8 times more heavily than those of white voters. Total white votes would have a weight of 5,580 (6,000 x 93 percent), and total minority votes would have a weight of 3,277 (6,000 x 7 percent x 7.8). Add the two together (5,580 + 3,277 = 8,857), and the weighted minority vote at the Academy becomes 37 percent, reflecting that of the audience.

This would be a multiplicative process, so votes by women of color would carry even more weight, 23.4 times those of white men.

What about people who think Furious 7 should win Best Picture? They should get ten times as many votes as people who liked Spotlight.

… I know that the basis for democracy is one man, one vote, but just as congressional districts have been gerrymandered, weighted balloting is a form of Hollywood redistricting.

Brian McLaughlin, a producer and actor, is an instructor at Los Angeles Film School.

These concepts of voting, counting the votes, giving the prize to the person who gets the most votes … they just seem outdated. It’s 2016! The producers should simply make up an inoffensive list of winners based on current social norms.

  1. The changes in the Academy’s voting are a literal example of “dissolve the people, and elect another”

And if Hollywood was about democracy, then they have to give a fair shake to the conservative parts of America. Not to mention, if we presume they live up to the globalism, 1 billion Muslims.

  2. That’s one way to turn the Mexican population into a tide of voters without the annoyance of having them actually vote. And even better, instead of voting for stuff they like, their votes will mostly go to stuff blacks like. Very progressive.

  3. Anonymous • Disclaimer says:

He tries to present it as Consistent With Longstanding Practice but the simple effect is a caste system & recipe for future conflict. What happens when Exhibitor Statistics Weekly shows that black filmgoing declined during one quarter? They’ll have a Treaty of Coldwater Canyon where Viscount Spike Lee concedes some of his territorial possessions?

  4. The Oscar kerfuffle is all about Spike and Jada and other wealthy (and occasionally talented) Blacks exercising extraordinary rights of rhetorical initiative and controversy unavailable to white folks because the former are members for life in America’s permanent idiopathic grievant class. Ipse dixit, forever.

This is such a historical illiteracy boner I have to keep correcting it, since I see it even in upper tier newspapers and magazines. Counting black slaves as 3/5 of a person for voting representation purposes was an ABOLITIONIST/ pro-black measure since if you think about it for even a micro-second black slaves were not allowed to vote; therefore treating them as ANY parts person was objectively anti-black since all it did was perversely exploit their imprisoned bodies for the sake of giving their enslavers more voting power in Congress and the Electoral College. Power by which said slavers could spread slavery to newly incorporated states, vote funds for warships to contest the unilateral British ban on slave trading, etc.

Weird thing is that Timothy Noah, who people around here keep bringing up as some sort of intellectual force that always must be reckoned with, once had a post on this where he correctly worked out the mathematical implications of the 3/5 rule and STILL had some "not who we are/will be" hissy fit that slaves should have been treated as full persons on the census anyway. Call it the Towson school of thinking.
  6. They might as well cut out the middle man and award Oscars indiscriminately, proportionate to the racial makeup of the population. Why bother with the Academy? But they want prizes just for being black, plus the appearance that they were awarded on merit – having your cake and eating it.

    • Replies: @Twinkie

They might as well cut out the middle man and award Oscars indiscriminately, proportionate to the racial makeup of the population.

Actually, if the Academy were to do that, the beneficiaries would be Hispanics and Asians, not blacks.

Blacks already win the Oscars at a higher rate than warranted by their population share, as do whites.

The problem is that Jews socialize losses and privatize profits when it comes to race issues. They feverishly engage in nepotism and ethnic networking but when there's a backlash they are able to get people to blame "white people" as a whole, thus cushioning the impact. White goyim, OTOH, serve as scapegoats for problems that Jews cause without receiving any of the benefits that accrue from Jewness. "White supremacy" is simply Jew supremacy projected onto whites.

U.S. Marines address their drill sergeants as "sir." U.S. Army soldiers address their sergeants as "sergeant." U.S. Army drill sergeants are wont to say "Don't call me sir - I work for a living" when addressed as "sir."
    , @antipater_1
In boot camp they do but not after boot camp.
    , @SPMoore8
In Marine boot camp, at least, 40+ years ago (about the time of the movie) you addressed your Drill Instructor as "Sir" in phrases like "Sir, Yes Sir!" or "Aye Aye Sir!" (that is the all purpose response to an order throughout your service) but when you had a convo with your DI or anyone else you used the third person mode of address: "Sir, private requests the drill instructor permission to go to the head", etc.

After boot camp, only officers are addressed as "Sir", and at times the third person address is still used (usually initiated by the officer.)

The boot camp sequence in FMJ was very accurate to my own experience, the only real difference is that a private would never even think of killing his DI. I don't know the protocol in 1967 (when the movie was set) but normally a private with psychological issues (or any other issues) would either be set back, sent to a special correction platoon, or be discharged after the first culling about three weeks into the 12-14 week sequence. Yes, boot camp is very demanding and stressful but it is also funny and one of the challenges is to maintain your composure when your DI is talking trash.

The Marines is a very tradition oriented organization so it maintains in its culture a raft of allusions, words, expressions, and so on that are passed on from generation to generation, and that movie seemed to have them all. Some of the expressions have outlived their origin so things like "doesn't know sh*t from shinola" or "what did you polish your boots with, a Hershey bar?" go back to when brown shoes were common, but all leather was black when I was in (as opposed to my father who was in during WW2). Another was "Irish pennant" i.e., a loose, exposed thread on your uniform, noted during inspection, but which was used for all apparel of all colors, not just the drab green twill cloth that it originally referred to.
  16. @dearieme
Do American soldiers really address sergeants as "Sir"? I live and learn.

U.S. Marines address their drill sergeants as “sir.” U.S. Army soldiers address their sergeants as “sergeant.” U.S. Army drill sergeants are wont to say “Don’t call me sir – I work for a living” when addressed as “sir.”

  17. Better question, why not select for district of residence. I’m sure a lot of people in flyover country watch movies, so weight the votes of academy residents accordingly. Any Academy members live in Compton? All the Malibu votes will be weithted at 0.0000001 or so.

WRT ethinicity, what is the size of the foreign market?E.g. China? How will he have to weight ethnic Chinese votes? Of course I’m sure the Academy will be happy to devalue all Jewish votes, it’s all for the cause.

Or how about using the ethinc/racial distribution of the people actually making movies instead of the public buying them. Oh, right.

  18. @dearieme
Do American soldiers really address sergeants as "Sir"? I live and learn.

In boot camp they do but not after boot camp.

  19. So what happens when Halle Berry and Rashida Jones join the Academy? Do their votes only 23.4/2 times white votes?

How about Louis C.K–his Mom is white, while his father is part Hungarian and part Mexican? Does he get full half-credit (a la Berry and Jones)? One cannot help but to be concerned about the over-representation of his whiteness. I know I sure am!

What about Olivia Munn–her father is white, but her mother is Chinese? With a little mathrobatics, we can compare the global Chinese female population with the representation of Chinese females on the Oscar Voting Committee and justify a situation wherein Olivia’s vote gets jacked up 2500 fold.

If Olivia plays her cards right, she will enlist Jada Smith as her mentor; she will express her Grievance-Outrage at just the right time. And Olivia Munn will ultimately decide the winner of every Oscar category….until Lucy Liu is granted her Oscar-Card.

[**Combine this post on Oscar Math with the next post on SAT test questions…and we gots ourselves a whole new paradigm for the Math Section of the Scholastic Aptitude Test.]

  20. “WRT ethinicity, what is the size of the foreign market?E.g. China?”

Just what I was thinking. Since it’s no longer financially prudent to spend $100+ million to make a movie just for Americans, and all big movies are made for the world market (e.g., The Martian, The Force Awakens), people should start complaining about how the Academy does not reflect the world population. Ethnic Chinese are 20% of the world’s population – how about it, Academy?

The Academy had better start looking to the future, too, since the black population of the world will explode given Africa’s fertility rate, the Muslim population should explode given their new access to European Union brides, etc. And don’t forget the Hispanic microcephalic vote.

  21. @Anonymous

Well, here you go- the Oscarz will henceforth be a vibrant affair, with almost all black nominees, presenters, and performers. Fire safety codes will be ignored in the auditorium to both accommodate the posses every nominee can bring with him, and to install a new kidney-shaped swimming pool where attendees can frolic throughout the ceremonies. Particular whites who criticize bad black poolside manner for being unseemly, or simply dangerous, will be denounced for one straight week on CNN and the evening news. Next awards season white society in general can be denounced when all the horseplay leads to an avoidable drowning death but whites are too cowed to speak up in time to prevent it.

Last man standing rules apply to officially recorded winners. Thus if Kanye West jacks the Best Actress statue for his wife in honor of her performance in his YouTube music video, Kim will NOT be the best actress on record unless she holds onto the statue until 8am the next day. 2019 Oscarz dominated by LaMarcus Johnson of the Nutty Street Crips who ends up being Best Producer, Screenwriter (adapted), and Actress in a Supporting Role. LaMarcus is also called the Best Film of 2019. Salon's Andrew O'Hehir praises LaMarcus as being a gripping insight into the American condition; calls LaMarcus's lack of a traditional plot a strength, as it lends itself to so many open-ended interpretations.

And, oh yeah, white and Asian serfs who invent and deploy the technology to create crystal clear images, life-like sound, seamless integration of live video and computer animation, can have their awards the next day. "Awards" here consisting of the McDonalds Monopoly Game Scratch-n-Win tickets discarded from the previous night's Oscarz. Most such awards will turn out to have been scratched but sadly unwon.

  25. The bottom line is that any standard of excellence is a very real threat to SWPLs like Brian McLaughlin (and intuitively perceived by them to be so) who wield the bulk of the actual power in the culture. “Diversity” is a means of lowering overall standards and further impeding non-SWPL whites.

  26. “These concepts of voting, counting the votes, giving the prize to the person who gets the most votes … they just seem outdated”

The establishment had that one figured out by at least 1994, when the establishment decided they wouldn’t allow Prop 187, passed with 59% of the vote, to become law.

  27. I followed the link to Hollywood Reporter and found this comment and reply to the original story. The statistics-teaching, film-school instructor wrote this to back up his voting suggestion:

There is anecdotal evidence that some older and/or white voters didn’t even see Straight Outta Compton, for example. Given those reports, they wouldn’t have known if it was good or deserved a nomination.

To which he received this reply:

There is “anecdotal” evidence that some younger and/or black voters of the Academy didn’t even see the movie ‘Nebraska’ last year. Given these “anecdotal reports”, the black voters wouldn’t have known if it was good or deserved a nomination.

Sounds really bad when you replace “older white voters” with “black voters” and ‘Nebraska’ with ‘Straight Outta Compton’. Yet you have absolutely no problem with painting all of the “older and/or white voters” with a broad brush. When you engage in hurling unfounded accusations (citing your “anecdotal evidence” as proof), it really underscores how weak your premise is.

Why do they keep pushing this poisonous idea that whites can’t be fair but yet non-whites automatically are? The blacks would vote in solidarity with one another and the whites of Hollywood have no such sense of belonging or relatedness. Charities to Africa are all white. In contrast, Beyonce stayed at a $10,000 per day place while doing the football show, money that could have been better used to help out some black people that she pretended to be concerned about with her dance show. Worship of Blacks/Third World people is a serious problem for White people, particularly elite, upper class White people, and particularly White, upper class White women who go in for it like a double dose of Oprah with the View, followed by a Kardashian chaser.

I was once in an elevator at the place where I worked in the 1990s, in Marina Del Rey. Very ritzy. Some idiot Black woman in "African" garb got in, along with some White woman "of a certain age" (i.e. over fifty) who gushed over how awesome the Black woman's "African" garb was. I felt like going on a rant, and should have, about how it was stupid and was as stupid as me showing up in a kilt -- but sadly I did not.

Black/Third World worship is just another status signalling sign of who the Elect are and who are not -- Jewish vulnerability to the idea of a chosen people, but one chosen by Electness not religion and heritage but social fashion, is of course obvious and pathetic. Given how Jews maintained their identity under severe pressure for millenia, only to throw it away for being new Puritans chasing Witches. [As an aside, Third World worship is not only bad for other Whites but bad for Jews since no matter how much "solidarity" shown anti-Jewish feeling is a feature not a bug of Third World peoples. Or, "The Holocaust was White-on-White crime and therefore irrelevant" as some BLM protestors opined recently.]

We are in a race, between "Fighting Whites" thrust into Diversity with a willingness to fight at the drop of a hat being the only survival mechanism, and sheltered elites high on Elect-ism.

"Some alt-right blogger had a clumsy, but prescient post on how blacks are the new nobility..."

That would be the much missed mencius moldbug, in the third part of his "gentle introduction to Unqualified Reservations":

"Let's say you were a person who didn't care at all about the Constitution, and you wanted to take America back to the past and establish a new order of hereditary nobility. What could be more deliciously reactionary than that? Real, live nobles, walking around on the street. So let's see what it would take to make it happen.

"First, we need to define noble status. Our rule is simple: if either of your parents was a noble, you're a noble. While this is unusually inclusive for a hereditary order, it is the 21st century, after all. We can step out a little. And nobility remains a biological quality - a noble baby adopted by common parents is noble, a common baby adopted by noble parents is common.

"Fine. What are the official duties and privileges of our new nobility? Obviously, we can't really call it a noble order unless it has duties and privileges.

"Well, privileges, anyway. Who needs duties? What's the point of being a noble, if you're going to have all these duties? Screw it, it's the 21st century. We've transcended duties. On to the privileges.

"The basic quality of a noble is that he or she is presumed to be better than commoners. Of course, both nobles and commoners are people. And people do vary. Individual circumstances must always be considered. However, the official presumption is that, in any conflict between a noble and a commoner, the noble is right and the commoner is wrong. Therefore, by default, the noble should win. This infallible logic is the root of our system of noble privilege.

"For example, if a noble attacks a commoner, we can presume that the latter has in some way provoked or offended the former. The noble may of course be guilty of an offense, but the law must be extremely careful about establishing this. If there is a pattern of noble attacks on commoners, there is almost certainly a problem with the commoners, whose behavior should be examined and who may need supplemental education.

"If a commoner attacks a noble, however, it is an extremely serious matter. And a pattern of commoner attacks on nobles is unthinkable - it is tantamount to the total breakdown of civilization. In fact, one way to measure the progress that modern society has made is that, in the lifetime of those now living, it was not at all unusual for mobs of commoners to attack and kill nobles! Needless to say, this doesn't happen anymore.

"This intentional disparity in the treatment of unofficial violence creates the familiar effect of asymmetric territorial dominance. A noble can stroll anywhere he wants, at any time of day or night, anywhere in the country. Commoners are advised not to let the sun set on them in noble neighborhoods, and if they go there during the day they should have a good reason for doing so.

"One of the main safeguards for our system of noble authority is a systematic effort to prevent the emergence of commoner organizations which might exercise military or political power. Commoners may of course have friends who are other commoners, but they may not network on this basis. Nobles may and of course do form exclusive social networks on the basis of nobility.

"Most interactions between commoners and nobles, of course, do not involve violence or politics. Still, by living in the same society, commoners and nobles will inevitably come into conflict. Our goal is to settle these conflicts, by default, in favor of the noble.

"For example, if a business must choose whether to hire one of two equally qualified applicants, and one is a noble while the other is a commoner, it should of course choose the noble. The same is true for educational admissions and any other contest of merit. Our presumption is that while nobles are intrinsically, inherently and immeasurably superior to commoners, any mundane process for evaluating individuals will fail to detect these ethereal qualities - for which the outcome must therefore be adjusted.

"Speaking of the workplace, it is especially important not to let professional circles of commoner resistance develop. Therefore, we impose heavy fines on corporations whose internal or external policies or practices do not reflect a solid pro-noble position. For example, a corporation which permits its commoner employees to express insolence or disrespect toward its noble employees, regardless of their relationship in the corporate hierarchy, is clearly liable. Any such commoner must be fired at once if the matter is brought to the management's attention."

    Nothing "clumsy" about this, IMHO.
  37. @Anonymous
Kind of hard to prove racism when it's INSTITUTIONAL racism.

It was a lot easier to recognize when it involved police dogs and tear gas. Of course, whites were in denial then too, so it's a constantly moving line.

Lonnie, INSTITUTIONAL is a dog whistle word that only blacks and SJW hear. And as for your “moving line” remark, as soon as non blacks think that they are moving closer to that line, you move it farther away…never ending, isn’t it?

  38. Professor McLaughlin is using an admittedly quirky variant of the Socratic Method to push his alt-right agenda, but nobody is noticing.

each voter’s ballot could be assigned an appropriate weight so that the total weighted votes would mirror the gender and racial breakdown of the domestic film audience.

To assign appropriate weights to each Academy member’s vote, one obviously must ascertain their race. Recall that race is the thing that “doesn’t exist” because it is a “social construct.”

We can explore the math behind this Swiftian proposal by granting Honorary Academy membership to two eminences: Rachel Dolezal and Barack Obama.

Ms. Dolezal self-identifies as Black, and her genetic inheritance is European. How do we count her vote?

Mr. Obama self-identifies as Black, and his genetic inheritance is 50.0% East African and 50.0% European (to the nearest tenth of a percent). How do we count his vote?

One possibility is to go with self-identification. But that denies people like Mr. Obama the chance to celebrate their multi-ethnic heritage. Of lesser concern, it also opens up the door to novel forms of “strategic voting.”

I’d have the Academy acknowledge that identity is fluid, and allow members to self-assign their category each year. By secret ballot.

The other possibility is to mandate genetic testing, and to use a proportional-representation scheme to categorize members’ votes. 23andMe ($99 on sale) gives this estimate, so there’s no financial or technical barrier.

All in all, Prof. McLaughlin deserves an enthusiastic shout out for his Modest Proposal. He’s trying to get unserious people to think hard about an important topic.

Some alt-right blogger had a clumsy, but prescient post on how blacks are the new nobility, since it is no longer permissible to criticize them, they no longer have to follow ordinary laws (everything from not walking down the middle of busy streets just because they feel like it, to please don't resist arrest by pulling the police officer's gun from his holster).

The Three-Fifths Compromise was a great idea except for the racism.

Counting black slaves as 3/5 of a person for voting representation purposes was an ABOLITIONIST/ pro-black measure…

The planters argued for five-fifths. Counting the livestock was their way to bloat the vote. Abolitionists wanted zero-fifths.

Gouverneur Morris thundered that the houses of Philadelphia were worth more than all the bondsmen in the South. So why not include them in the representation?

I look forward to the next Madea picture to be similarly honoured. Hell, it’s about time an artiste of Tyler Perry’s magnitude strolled off with the Oscar.

It ain’t minorities who choose a Thousand Years a Slave or whatever as the best picture — that’s the choice of sad little white people.

It seems, per the two choices I hypothesized in another thread, the lefty Academy is choosing the worse one and pushing to become ghetto and irrelevant. If this voting shenanigan goes through, it totally will become an irrelevant social and cultural ghetto.

Still, much how NYC was given up for lost in the 1970s and 1980s because the diversity-quota was running things, we can’t forget how one certain, small group of usually reliable left-wing voters are pretty good at retaking political power back if they are threatened by the diversity mobs and resetting order. By hook or by crook.

For a more detailed explanation, see Giuliani’s election as mayor of NYC following on the heels of the Crown Heights Riots.

Until then, pass the popcorn. It’ll be funny in 10-15 years how articles will begin to lament how the Oscars have lost their “glamor” and how they have come to be seen as “déclassé” and all other sorts of euphemisms.

The CBS Channel 6 WTVR News report "Girl who cried UVa. gang rape pretended to be her rapist to win a boy, lawyers say" that SPMoore8 links includes this quote from Jackie's friend Alex Stock (the heartless "Andy" in Erdely's story):

"This Haven character would always complain that she's got a crush on some first year," said Stock. "It was kind of a fishing expedition to see how she felt about Ryan."

Thanks to Steve, we even know the variety of fish that this expedition was after.

And the hilarious thing is- they are STILL redacting Jackie Coakley's name in the transcripts! To protect the identity of an almost definitively-confirmed rape claim fabricator. If one wants a working definition of the POZ, it's being a middle-aged, white Virginia police chief having to go before the cameras and say, on pain of career suicide, "While there is absolutely no proof the gang rape occurred, I cannot say something might not have happened."

And, actually, reading a little of the transcript, it is almost a beautifully absurd piece of world-class art and literature if one is in the right frame of mind. Jackie pretends to be a boy (Haven) to lure the boy she really loves by forcing him to pretend to be a girl (Brianna, a fictional chemistry classmate of the already-fictional Haven) who Haven can text to sell Jackie in the guise of asking a "real-girl" (Duffin/Brianna) for advice on how to win over Jackie! It's better than a MIDSUMMER"S NIGHT DREAM and AS YOU LIKE IT combined!

Yes, I’m all for Affirmative Action Oscars. They should give all the awards to Blacks, if they can find one for every category. Hollywood deserves this crap they’ve been pushing for everybody else.

The CBS Channel 6 WTVR News report “Girl who cried UVa. gang rape pretended to be her rapist to win a boy, lawyers say” that SPMoore8 links includes this quote from Jackie’s friend Alex Stock (the heartless “Andy” in Erdely’s story):

“This Haven character would always complain that she’s got a crush on some first year,” said Stock. “It was kind of a fishing expedition to see how she felt about Ryan.”

Thanks to Steve, we even know the variety of fish that this expedition was after.

  58. This sounds like a great idea. As a matter of fact, why don’t we apply this to the NFL Pro Bowl as well? Due to an obvious institutional bias, the racial makeup the NFL Pro Bowl doesn’t match the racial makeup of its fan base. Simply making votes of the Caucasian players votes worth more than that of the African American players would fix this glaring and racist discrepancy.

  59. @SPMoore8

“a private would never even think of killing his DI.”

Maybe not a drill sergeant, but “fragging” officers and NCOs was supposedly a fairly frequent occurrence in Vietnam.

  60. Hollywood has been anti-white for decades, and it is only getting worse. We have no reason to defend people that hate us. Let the vibrants take over Hollywood and run it into the ground. We have thousands of great old films for ourselves and our children to watch.

They might as well cut out the middle man and award Oscars indiscriminately, proportionate to the racial makeup of the population. Why bother with the Academy? But they want prizes just for being black, plus the appearance that they were awarded on merit - having your cake and eating it.

White people cannot be victims of ‘racism’. But they can be victims of black robbery, thuggery, rape, bullying, rioting, looting, and murder.

White people cannot be victims of ‘racism’. But white people can be victims of Jewish financial thievery and Wars for Israel(that led to over 5,000 white men in body bags).

White people cannot be victims of ‘racism’. But white people can be victims of mass migration that threatens to overrun Europe and demographically displace Europeans in their own homeland.

White people cannot be victims of ‘racism’. But white people can be victim of communism(engineered by Jews) that destroyed so many churches and killed millions of Slavs.

White people cannot be victims of ‘racism’. But white people can be victims of Mexican drug cartels that sell meth and other harmful drugs to poor white communities and destroy so many lives.

White people cannot be victims of ‘racism’. But white people can be victims of white collaborator elites who sell their race down the river for 30 pieces of silver.

White people cannot be victims of ‘racism’. But white people can be victims of Hollywood and homosexual decadence that encourages white boys and girls to degrade and ruin their lives by emulating the likes of Miley Cyrus and other trashy celebrities promoted by Jewish and homo entertainment oligarchs.

With white people being victimized by so many things, it’s good to know that they are at least not victimized by ‘racism’.

It is not. The Twinkie clan is considerably more attractive than this family (my kids don't look Mexican for one thing), and we are far less exhibitionist. I'd never put videos or pictures of my children online, for example. And being exemplars of Ice People dourness, we don't do frivolous activities this family does. Indeed, fun never commences at the Twinkie homestead (https://youtu.be/GmQwRmKjKSc).

You watched more than one episode of this drivel?

Also, we never consume fast food. It's all low mercury fish, organic arugula, and quinoa per Mrs. Twinkie's SWPL diet plan for the family. We are going to live forever.

“Some alt-right blogger had a clumsy, but prescient post on how blacks are the new nobility…”

That would be the much missed mencius moldbug, in the third part of his “gentle introduction to Unqualified Reservations”:

“Let’s say you were a person who didn’t care at all about the Constitution, and you wanted to take America back to the past and establish a new order of hereditary nobility. What could be more deliciously reactionary than that? Real, live nobles, walking around on the street. So let’s see what it would take to make it happen.

“First, we need to define noble status. Our rule is simple: if either of your parents was a noble, you’re a noble. While this is unusually inclusive for a hereditary order, it is the 21st century, after all. We can step out a little. And nobility remains a biological quality – a noble baby adopted by common parents is noble, a common baby adopted by noble parents is common.

“Fine. What are the official duties and privileges of our new nobility? Obviously, we can’t really call it a noble order unless it has duties and privileges.

“Well, privileges, anyway. Who needs duties? What’s the point of being a noble, if you’re going to have all these duties? Screw it, it’s the 21st century. We’ve transcended duties. On to the privileges.

“The basic quality of a noble is that he or she is presumed to be better than commoners.

“For example, if a noble attacks a commoner, we can presume that the latter has in some way provoked or offended the former. The noble may of course be guilty of an offense, but the law must be extremely careful about establishing this. If there is a pattern of noble attacks on commoners, there is almost certainly a problem with the commoners, whose behavior should be examined and who may need supplemental education.

“If a commoner attacks a noble, however, it is an extremely serious matter. And a pattern of commoner attacks on nobles is unthinkable – it is tantamount to the total breakdown of civilization. In fact, one way to measure the progress that modern society has made is that, in the lifetime of those now living, it was not at all unusual for mobs of commoners to attack and kill nobles! Needless to say, this doesn’t happen anymore.

“This intentional disparity in the treatment of unofficial violence creates the familiar effect of asymmetric territorial dominance. A noble can stroll anywhere he wants, at any time of day or night, anywhere in the country. Commoners are advised not to let the sun set on them in noble neighborhoods, and if they go there during the day they should have a good reason for doing so.

“One of the main safeguards for our system of noble authority is a systematic effort to prevent the emergence of commoner organizations which might exercise military or political power. Commoners may of course have friends who are other commoners, but they may not network on this basis. Nobles may and of course do form exclusive social networks on the basis of nobility.

“Most interactions between commoners and nobles, of course, do not involve violence or politics. Still, by living in the same society, commoners and nobles will inevitably come into conflict. Our goal is to settle these conflicts, by default, in favor of the noble.

“For example, if a business must choose whether to hire one of two equally qualified applicants, and one is a noble while the other is a commoner, it should of course choose the noble. The same is true for educational admissions and any other contest of merit. Our presumption is that while nobles are intrinsically, inherently and immeasurably superior to commoners, any mundane process for evaluating individuals will fail to detect these ethereal qualities – for which the outcome must therefore be adjusted.

“Speaking of the workplace, it is especially important not to let professional circles of commoner resistance develop. Any such commoner must be fired at once if the matter is brought to the management’s attention.”

    Nothing “clumsy” about this, IMHO.

To assign appropriate weights to each Academy member's vote, one obviously must ascertain their race. Recall that race is the thing that "doesn't exist" because it is a "social construct."

Of lesser concern, it also opens up the door to novel forms of "strategic voting."

I'd have the Academy acknowledge that identity is fluid, and allow members to self-assign their category each year. By secret ballot.

The other possibility is to mandate genetic testing, and to use a proportional-representation scheme to categorize members' votes. 23andMe ($99 on sale) gives this estimate, so there's no financial or technical barrier.

All in all, Prof. McLaughlin deserves an enthusiastic shout out for his Modest Proposal. He's trying to get unserious people to think hard about an important topic.

Yes, I thought similarly when reading this. He’s taking us one step further down a giant reductio ad absurdum argument.

And the hilarious thing is- they are STILL redacting Jackie Coakley’s name in the transcripts! To protect the identity of an almost definitively-confirmed rape claim fabricator. If one wants a working definition of the POZ, it’s being a middle-aged, white Virginia police chief having to go before the cameras and say, on pain of career suicide, “While there is absolutely no proof the gang rape occurred, I cannot say something might not have happened.”

And, actually, reading a little of the transcript, it is almost a beautifully absurd piece of world-class art and literature if one is in the right frame of mind. Jackie pretends to be a boy (Haven) to lure the boy she really loves by forcing him to pretend to be a girl (Brianna, a fictional chemistry classmate of the already-fictional Haven) who Haven can text to sell Jackie in the guise of asking a “real-girl” (Duffin/Brianna) for advice on how to win over Jackie! It’s better than a MIDSUMMER”S NIGHT DREAM and AS YOU LIKE IT combined!

Lani Guinier (half Jewish, but so desperate to eliminate the last taint of whiteness from her being she set out to marry the darkest man she could snag) smacked down by Congress for proposing an anti-gerrymandering scheme where minorities could stack their votes for the same candidate (say, if 5 seats in Congress for the state, vote 5 times for the same candidate so that at least 1 represents them instead of having their vote overwhelmed in 5 separate majority-white districts) actually the epitome of moderation compared to this crap?

BTW, anyone else notice the resort to POZ-tictics when determining representation baselines
? % of ticket buyers rather than % of general population? Actually saw a woman diversicrat argue on PBS NEWSHOUR last week that NFL coaching crisis was so bad because black head coaches were only in the teens in terms of percentage, but baseline should actually be black representation among the players. Why does this same argument not apply to, say, science fiction writing awards or video games!

“Say, if 5 seats in Congress for the state, vote 5 times for the same candidate so that at least 1 represents them instead of having their vote overwhelmed in 5 separate majority-white districts”
    No

You only get to vote for the candidates contesting the district you live in. One vote, not five, not for all those in the State.

Yep,I recall one DI referring to some equipment that was way out of date as being in use when Christ went thru boot camp. That’s old!

“Just like in Hollywood”, I added.

  87. Back in the 1960’s and 70’s, when I grew up, there was point of contention about what to watch on TV each night. My dad liked to watch westerns and cop shows, my mom liked to watch variety and awards shows. They were both OK with most sitcoms and sports.

My mom would start negotiating with my dad well in advance of the Oscars show to make sure she could watch it. She was always successful and always disappointed. She wasn’t stupid. She understood that the film industry was just giving awards to themselves and that electricians, like my dad, the man who put food on table, had no such extravaganza.

  89. why stop there, we could use this for the voting style for the Heisman, the pro bowl, the all star game and even president.

this representation only matters when minorities cry there are too many white people, lets talk diversity in the NBA for a minute……..crickets.

To assign appropriate weights to each Academy member's vote, one obviously must ascertain their race. Recall that race is the thing that "doesn't exist" because it is a "social construct."

Why bother with this useless bickering over voting? Just hand over the nomination process to Pinka Jadette Smith and be done with it. She can ensure the desired outcome.

They did mention In-N-Out Burger in one episode, and that's not in your state, is it? That should remove suspicion.

It is not. The Twinkie clan is considerably more attractive than this family (my kids don’t look Mexican for one thing), and we are far less exhibitionist. I’d never put videos or pictures of my children online, for example. And being exemplars of Ice People dourness, we don’t do frivolous activities this family does. Indeed, fun never commences at the Twinkie homestead (https://youtu.be/GmQwRmKjKSc).

You watched more than one episode of this drivel?

Also, we never consume fast food. It’s all low mercury fish, organic arugula, and quinoa per Mrs. Twinkie’s SWPL diet plan for the family. We are going to live forever.

  93. Probably they should just abolish the Oscars, as they have just become a bone of racial contention. They never really meant very much, and it is time to retire the whole concept.

A new award can be started that will be based on purely objective criteria, such as which film made the most money, was the most expensive to make, had the most black people in the cast, and so on. Actors can be given awards according to how many movies they make, how many countries their movies are shown in, in how many languages, and so on. Female actors can be given awards based on the size of their tits and whether their personal sex videos have been leaked by their mothers.

  94. @Reg Cæsar

Some alt-right blogger had a clumsy, but prescient post on how blacks are the new nobility, since it is no longer permissible to criticize them, they no longer have to follow ordinary laws...

No, their rôle in the new court is that of the jester, who also had some immunity.

On the other hand, the jester had to have genuine talent, and his immunity only lasted as long as he had it.

Thanks. “It’s like crying about not enough icing on your cake.” (Ice Cube) I’ve guessed that up to one-third of Black folks pretty much know the Black grievance industry is, well, bullpuckey. Like most of us, they’re stuck playing ball with stuff they believe odious because the price of resistance can be very high.

  98. If there is a kerfuffle now over black actors being nominated for Oscar consideration, should they be automatically nominated then won’t there be an equal kerfuffle when those black actors don’t win?

  99. Agree. One of the reasons Bill Cosby is in so much trouble is that he wandered away from the Approved Narrative and suggested that blacks might, just might, be responsible for some of their own problems. BadThink must be punished.

"What about people who think Furious 7 should win Best Picture? "

Why are they assuming old white people nominated Mad Max instead of Beasts of No Nation? Maybe the new young members were the dumb asses that voted in Mad Max as best picture.

The Oscars are supposed to be a film industry award, not an American award or an advertisement.

Members often give the ballots for the staff to fill in because they cannot be bothered.
