From KSTP:

St. Cloud Mayor says NY Times article doesn’t reflect the community

June 21, 2019 07:32 PM

As more Somali refugees settle in St. Cloud, a New York Times article published on Thursday, reports anti-immigration activists are beginning to push harder against a resettlement program that has brought many, mostly Muslim, refugees to the area.

The article says the influx of Somalis has caused the kinds of population and cultural changes President Trump and right-wing conservatives have warned about for years, stoking people’s fears. …

Over the last 30 years, St. Cloud has increased in population by 33%, with the share of non-white residents growing from 2% to 18%, the article notes.

Dave Kleis, who has been mayor for 13-and-a-half-years, told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS he disagrees with the article.

“I don’t believe it’s reflective of the community,” said Mayor Kleis. “That’s an external opinion of the community that I don’t see.”

He said refugees and immigrants are an important part of the community as entrepreneurs, authors and city employees.

“There’s a lot of individuals doing tremendous things in this community,” said Kleis. “There are a lot of collaborations taking place, a lot of great stories.”

Kleis said he also disagrees with the views shared by Concerned Community Citizens.

Mayor Kleis reiterated that all refugees are welcome in St. Cloud.

“Our goal is to make sure we treat everyone and give everyone the same respect and opportunity,” said Kleis. “My perspective is to continue to build on those positive stories and focus on all of the positive things that are happening.”

Dissent on immigration is illegitimate and immoral.

  1. Let’s call this what it is: an attempt to remake what we (the good people) decided what our nation’s demographics will be.

Authors? I guess doing a job that Americans just won't/can't do.

And no kidding that they are going to be city employees. And the long term plan will be to increase city/municipal employment, because that's just how it's done in the old country.

  6. What I never understand about these stories is why anyone talks to The NY Times. If you oppose immigration they are never going to treat you fairly they want you to die. Why do people keep talking them! Stop being fools they have no principles and your principles are useless just an excuse to fail.

Comedy is also pretty dastardly these days, apparently. Funny how that works. It’s fine when the right people are doing it, but when the wrong people do it back, watch out. A couple of weeks ago, some rando made a funny Nancy Pelosi drunk video and the Daily Beast doxxed the guy with the clear intention of ruining his life because they got butthurt. It was all fun and games back when the right people were making fun of W’s alcoholism on SNL, but don’t you dare laugh at mama speaker lady. Oh no, don’t you dare laugh your little head off.

Forgetting for the moment that this mayor is probably an SJW, his action is repeated often by regular Whites around the nation, namely the public denunciation of a fellow White who expressed crimethink.

These Whites are the force multipliers for the SJWs. On their own SJWs have little appeal or following. But they try to get others to join in the denunciation of a target they have fixated on and attacked. And it is this secondary action by others that really puts the screws to the victim. Hence, they augment or become force multipliers for the social rejects that primarily comprise SJWs. See photos of Wikipedia editors for examples.

Bottom line for Whites who don’t want to protest. Fine. Just do us a favor and keep your mouths shut when one is targeted. Don’t do their work for them. Refrain from voluntary condemnation.

why anyone talks to The NY Times

Middle America high-trust, assumes good intent and a desire for good faith, fair play.

Does not survive contact with slick, passive-aggressive cosmopolitans (though this journalist [#44] was just a run-of-mill Black race hustler, it looks like).

  11. @Daniel H

AGREED, Daniel. I noticed that too. How many authors would a city of St. Cloud have, that DON’T have another job or welfare to support them? This is the clue that this Mayor is just talking out of his ass here. He knows what’s going on with the city gov and that that’s the easiest way to employ worthless people. It’s the only thing keeping the black middle class out of the insignificant range.

Then he put in “entrepreneurs” because anyone who can sell Somalian crap out on the street is an entrepreneur.

I guess you can’t expect a mayor to stand up for the people in his community against those writers of the NY Times. He’d have to not be a coward or something, a rare thing anymore in politicians. Maybe if there are any literate Kennedies left, onc can write Profiles in Cowardice. It should be easy to find material.

  12. I didn’t read the original article either, but based on this excerpt, this story on the Goodthinking Mayor’s reaction to the story is written poorly:

The article says the influx of Somalis has caused the kinds of population and cultural changes President Trump and right-wing conservatives have warned about for years, stoking people’s fears.

It sounds like this author (well, there’s another author job for a bright incandescent-bulb-headed Somalian entrepreneur!) is saying that the NY Time article writer noticed that the influx has caused the changes warned about by Trump and Conservatives. He didn’t of course – that’d be all truthful and shit. No, the NY Times writer hated on the community members who said all this.

Secondly, what about the “stoking people’s fears …” bit? If these changes have come, then their fears have been realized. That’s not stoking. It’s confirming. Stoking doesn’t mean what this guy thinks it means. Don’t apply for any engineer/brakeman jobs on any steam locomotives, Mr. KSTP reporter.

Yeah, this writing sucks – we need more Somalians on staff at KSTP. Anything to keep those fears from being stoked.

  13. Mayor Kleis reiterated that all refugees are welcome in St. Cloud.

And they’re going to get it. Good and hard.

“My perspective is to continue to build on those positive stories and focus on all of the positive things that are happening.”

What positive things? What positive stories?

    O/T: BBC: Physiognomy is real

Do you understand the definition of the word “physiognomy”? Do you? Because the article you just linked to has absolutely nothing to do with it. By using the word in this fashion, you are indicating that your understanding of it is not only wrong but—literally—completely upside down. This is a reversal and a perversion of everything physiognomy means.

The article is talking about a sort of opportunistic modification of social strategy, e.g. a physically larger boy being more assertive because he can get away with it. Notwithstanding the fact that this almost never happens in real life (social interaction is very complex and does not crudely reduce to “I’m bigger than you”), it is embedded in the very description that this modification is accidental, i.e. we could expect the assertive large boy to become introverted and shy if he happened to fall in with a group of boys even larger than himself.

Physiognomy is about what is essential. It is about how the character or nature of a man tells in certain aspects of his overall mien and bearing. The dull look of vulgarity found in most commonplace people—e.g. the ordinary male with his small, smoldering eyes set deep within a heavy mass of facial bone, testifying to an intellect wholly bound and subservient to the lower manifestations of the will—is a physiognomic trait. No amount of social modification is going to turn this man into a prince or a genius; he will be what he will be, whereas the largeness of the large boy is only the occasion of him giving voice to an assertiveness that he would fain have expressed at any opportunity. This was only the circumstance, the field in which the essential expressed itself. Physiognomy is about that which abides under all circumstances and modifications. Negated or nourished as the case may be, it belongs to the inner nature of things and does not alter with the seasons.

Perhaps you can glean from the above, as I hope others will so glean, how utterly absurd it is for the fans of HBD—a spinoff of Darwinian evolutionary theory—to drone from the other side of their mouths the platitude that “physiognomy is real.” Nothing could be more hostile to physiognomy than Darwinism, which leaves nothing insusceptible to modification, which in fact subsumes everything under the heading of the accidental such that there are no substances anymore, only accidents. The un-metaphysical metaphysics of materialistic Darwinism do not afford a proper toolkit for understanding the real nature of anything; thus HBD, which attempts to uphold the truth that the major divisions of humanity differ in nontrivial ways, does so with a scaffolding of tissue paper. To attain legitimacy it need only drop the preposterous “B” from its alphabetical roster and replace it with a “P”. Human Physiognomic Diversity would be a real expression of wisdom which might use biology as an adjunct, but the latter by itself is mere industrious measuring for measuring’s sake, a pretension of science which at bottom convinces nobody.

The head of the Concerned Citizens group in St. Cloud is a retired college professor. His views on non immigration topics are probably closer to the average Times reader than they are to the typical member of the dissident right. He has also run for city council in the past and might have thought this would help for future runs. Yes, he should have known better than to talk to the NY Times, but I understand why he did.

  29. @Mr McKenna

Mayor Kleis reiterated that all refugees are welcome in St. Cloud.

And they’re going to get it. Good and hard.

    Yep, they’re gonna…

Rep Gerry Connolly of Virginia (CD 11) commented some years back how open and welcoming his county Fairfax (back then he was on the Bd of Supervisors, maybe even Chairman) was than xenophobic Prince William County, which was then attempting to control the illegal aliens influx.

I thought, ‘Well, Gerry, there goes your world-class public school system.’

Sure enough, a few years later, the apartments in FFC were full of foreign families, many no doubt illegals fleeing Prince William’s crack-down, and the schools were spending so much on free lunches, special ed, and ESOL that they couldn’t replace out-dated science equipment in the schools, including TJ School of Science & Technology.

FFC, like California before it, had been a magnet for ambitious folks who didn’t mind expensive houses and high taxes because their kids could attend for free some of the best schools in the US. Now folks who got in some time back are talking about private school for the kids. I guess they could move to cheaper Prince William but good luck on getting a good deal when you sell that McMansion you were robbed for in FFC…

Such jumbled wordsmithing, so many words to say so little, is neither an argument against the claim nor an indicator of “intelligence.” BBC claimed a causal relationship between physical size and trait openness in the relative, but they could well be correlated in the absolute. Nice rant bozo.

    The positive stories:

    * He was an aspiring rapper.
    * He took care he kids.
    * He was a good boy.

  37. I’m always struck by the way immigration supporters talk about immigrants.

Immigration supporters always infantilize and externalize immigrants. They talk about them as if they’ll always be subordinate to their host communities. They can’t really imagine immigrants having equal or greater power than them. They truly believe they have some supreme privilege over them.

It never seems to strike these people that perhaps the immigrants have their own ambitions and agency.

It never seems to strike these people that they’re facilitating their own irrelevance, and probably their own eventual oppression.

Immigration skeptics get a lot of flack for being “supremacists,” but they aren’t. Skeptics view immigrants as equals; i.e. competition. Immigrants aren’t lambs. They aren’t powerless. They’re real people with their own unique point of view and a desire to shape the world around them.
