From the New York Post’s Page Six gossip column:

Cops call for federal probe related to Obama aide involvement in Jussie Smollett case
By Lia Eustachewich March 22, 2019 | 9:38am

Chicago’s police union has demanded a federal investigation into the county’s top prosecutor for allegedly interfering in the Jussie Smollett case after being contacted by Michelle Obama’s former chief of staff.

The Fraternal Order of Police, which represents the department’s rank-and-file, sent a letter earlier this week asking the Department of Justice to probe Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx, according to ABC 7 Chicago.

Foxx tried to convince Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson to turn Smollett’s case over to the FBI — after Tina Tchen, the former senior Obama aide, reached out to her, saying the “Empire” star’s family had “concerns.”

“That recusal is wholly insufficient,” FOP president Kevin Graham said in a statement. “In order for Ms. Foxx to properly charge and try this case, her entire office should have recused itself and a special prosecutor been appointed.” …

Tchen texted Foxx on Feb. 1 — three days after Smollett reported the attack and when he was still considered a victim.

“I wanted to give you a call on behalf of Jussie Smollett and family who I know. They have concerns about the investigation,” Tchen wrote.

Foxx emailed Tchen, a close pal of Mayor Rahm Emmanuel’s wife, later the same day, “Spoke to the Superintendent Johnson. I convinced him to Reach out to FBI to ask that they take over the investigation. He is reaching out now and will get to me shortly.”

Richard Cohen recently appointed Ms. Tchen to “audit” the SPLC work environment as he fired Morris Dees. For late-breaking Richard Cohen news, see below.

  1. Tchen jis’ can.

  2. Very interesting. A few observations:

It was the Chicago PD that wouldn’t play patsy to Smollet’s wacky assault narrative. I assumed that the corrupt Chicago city government was also angered, but apparently not so much.

The Obama’s still consider the FBI loyal. Loyal enough that one of their fixers could use it to sweep an embarrassing story under the rug.

Yes. I was going to say that but you beat me to it. It just emphasizes that Trump has little sway over the Permanent Government. The FBI was always a sort of extralegal Fourth Branch outside the control of the Executive with its original Director for Life J. Edgar, but now it has a Leftist agenda which makes it even more dangerous. Although arguably this goes back to Deep Throat - the FBI has been in the business of blackmailing and even deposing Presidents since day 1. We should really get rid of it or at least bring it under the sway of the Executive as the Constitution requires. Trump, while no Constitutional scholar, instinctively understood this when he asked Comey for his loyalty and of course the slime Comey refused and used the request to backstab Trump even more.
  3. A half billion dollars necessarily has a lot of “concerns”.

  4. If Dems wanted not to make the Smollett case look like a centrally planned campaign op, they should probably have acted differently in its wake.

I thought the scam was too stupid to involve the likes of Harris, or Obama admin people, but the UVA rape hoax was just as glaring an Obama world operation, and still no one but Steve has pointed it out. It’s looked more and more since the truth broke that this farce was, in fact, a broad, if not grand, conspiracy.

    • Replies: @Barnard
Did they believe Smollett? If you knew or at least strongly suspected his story was not true, wouldn't you want to get as much distance from it as possible? Getting Smollett to back down would have been the smart path to take if you were genuinely trying to help him. Although given that Obama is a true believer in the "school to prison" pipeline he probably did believe there were white rednecks running around Chicago with rope and bleach looking for gay black celebrities to assault.

My opinion has always been that BO married Michelle both as a "beard" to cover the persistent and probably well-founded rumors of his homosexuality/bisexuality and as a means to connect with the broader community of American Negroes, of which he was obviously not a part. BO needed to cover both these bases if he was to establish a political career. That Michelle was the member of a prominent, Negro family with solid roots in the community fit the bill. That she was not very physically attractive and unlikely to snap up a mate made her an obvious target.

Federal law enforcement is like journalism - they used to pretend to be non-political, but they never were - they were just better at hiding it in the past and we were more naive about such things. The mask is off now and it's probably better for everyone that they lay their cards on the table.

The head of the FBI should be a cabinet level post that automatically changes hands after an election, same as the AG. Even the AG is too separated from executive control. Outside of the judiciary, no powerful executive branch official should be completely insulated from the will of the electorate. If the President subverts Federal law enforcement, the remedy is impeachment or non-re-election but ultimately he must be able to control the bureaucracy or there is no one who can and they become our unelected permanent rulers.
