Shooting at a party in Chicago leaves 13 people wounded and 2 dead

(CNN)Two people were killed and 13 others were wounded in a mass shooting at a party on Chicago’s South Side early Sunday morning, police said.
Several of those injured in the shooting are still in surgery, said Police Superintendent David Brown. He said four guns were seized at the building, a makeshift setup converted for a pop-up party. The victims ranged in age from 20 to 44, police said.
Brown said it’s early in the investigation and that there isn’t a known motive at this time. There are no suspects in custody, he said. …
The incident is the largest mass shooting in Chicago since last summer when 15 people were wounded in a drive-by shooting at a funeral for a victim of another drive-by shooting.
Can you estimate the race of most of the people involved? My recent Takimag.com column “Black Lives Murdered” explains how. If the final toll were 13 dead and 2 wounded, the shooter would likely be a lone white or Asian male, who is either dead or in custody because he hung around to finish off the wounded. He might have left a manifesto. This would be the biggest story since the January 6 hoo-ha.
But when the count is 2 dead and 13 wounded, it’s almost certainly a Mostly Peaceful Black Party that intensified. The shooters don’t hang around to finish off the wounded and risk capture. Heck, they barely have a beef against the wounded, they were just standing in the general line of fire of the one or two guys they wanted to hit. The story will vanish from the news.
Of course, CNN doesn’t report the race, so Coulter’s Law implies that this was just another black-on-black mass shooting.
Local channel WGN reports that one of the murdered was named Rayneesha.

CNN goes on to put this in proper perspective: it’s due to Covid.
Chicago, like many large US cities, has seen a sharp rise in gun violence and shooting incidents since the end of last spring’s Covid-19 related shutdowns.
In other words, at the exact moment when everybody decided that, although Covid had been the biggest story in history last week, now George Floyd is the biggest story in history, so you should get out and Mostly Peacefully Protest.
… Compared to this point last year, murders in Chicago have increased 15% and shooting incidents are up 31% in 2021, according to the latest Chicago Police data. At the same time, total crime complaints have actually declined, led by sharp drops in burglary, theft, and aggravated battery, according to police data.
Criminology experts have ascribed the rise in violence largely to pandemic-related fallout: closed schools and businesses, higher unemployment and stress and anxiety, particularly in lower-income homes. Illness and social distancing also led to fewer officers on the streets in areas that needed crime prevention the most.
The Racial Reckoning declared by CNN and its peers had nothing to do with, say, the record-breaking 25 murders in Chicago the weekend after George Floyd’s death during the Peaceful Protests that sacked the Magnificent Mile.

Best part of the CNN article is the quote that “total crime complaints” are down. That’s one of those accurate but not accurate news stories. Complaints are no doubt down, but are actual crimes down? Or are less crimes being reported because of fear of retribution and cynicism that the police will do anything?
Instead, my neighbor said i should tell the cops, 'there's a prowler, and i'm going to get my gun, go outside, and see what's going on'. If I did that, the cops would tell me to stay inside and would have officers there within 3-7 minutes.

The key elements are as follows: the shooting occurred in Chicago’s South Side, the shooting occurred at a party, the shooter’s low level of lethality indicates he was a graduate of the James Hodgkinson school of marksmanship, the news report omitted any reference to the race of the shooter.
This is not a hard one.
When everybody knows that the shooter was black, why would the “journalist” omit this information? Of course it is CNN, but don’t those people have any shame? Don’t they get tired of beclowning themselves daily?

‘Can You Guess the Race of This Mass Shooting That Left 2 Dead and 13 Wounded Just from the Ratio?’
It’s actually a tad ambiguous. Your classic black shooting, between an unawareness of the concept of ‘aiming’ in the black community and the advanced state of inner-city hospitals, would be fifteen wounded, none dead.
If there’re two dead, it might be Blacks — or it could be Hispanics. Maybe even a pissed-off white dude. Hmong? Hard to tell.
That CNN story is a classic of the genre, isn’t it? Let’s look at the first three paragraphs.
Just to keep us all calm, it’s all passive voice in the lede. That’s New Rule #1 of hard-hitting journalism.
Okay, more about the victims, sure; that shows concern. But who’s to blame for this dastardly crime? Ah, of course! Guns!! If four guns were present at this Mostly Peaceful Party, it’s no wonder a Wave of Gun Violence inevitably ensued.
As the article goes on, what’s missing is more illuminating than what’s present. There’s just one sentence in the article describing the scene of the crime, and that’s only cops saying it was chaotic when they arrived, which is hardly a shocker. There are no witnesses quoted, and no attempts to report on what actually happened.
The rest of the article is devoted to explaining how Vague but Powerful social forces are behind the recent country-wide shootingfest.
In this reporter’s mind, motive precedes perpetrator. We’d better start thinking fast about ‘root causes’ before we even dare to consider the possibility that some individual human agent or agents made a decision to pack heat, show up at this party, and start pulling the trigger.
The local news station just came on with breaking news of the murders of seven women in massage parlors in Atlanta. It didn’t even take the 0.8 seconds to show the picture of the suspect, who is white. They tend to linger a bit longer, or not show a picture at all, when the suspect is some other color.

Some years ago I worked at a cable TV firm. One of the dubious perks of this job was that there were TV monitors with a 24/7 feed of the product everywhere, so there was always this background drone of repeating loops of local news, weather, etc. There had recently been one of the those notorious allahu-akbar-type mass shootings, so everyone was a little on edge, either for fear of a repeat or because the proggie journos wanted to catch a white guy shooter to even up the score so they could put him on screen while admonishing the audience, “See, this is what a mass shooter really looks like! Not those brown Muslims, you Islamophobe bigots!”
Anyhow, every so often they would break into the normal programming loop with a hair-on-fire story that there had just been a reported mass shooting!!!! Details are sketchy, but we will be following this!!!

They would usually cycle through a fevered update or two, sometimes with an additional detail, the fecklessness of which tending to confirm my initial hypothesis.*

If you have some type of insurance, you may get reimbursed financially for the loss. If not, c’est la vie. Exceptions exist, of course; if you are wealthy and powerful and the item(s) in question have more than just intrinsic monetary value, there may be an investigation and the property recovered. But for the majority of us, we never see it again.

I think the black shooters of this kind select their targets as the consequence of street “beefs” about disrespect/criminal related conflicts etc. So the black shooters are often primarily targeting their peers who are also likely armed, and therefore the strategy is to mount a quick ambush and extraction, but the whole thing gets expedited when the putative targets/victims or bystanders start shooting back in the fog of battle.
The white/Asian male shooter seems often to be acting out a revenge power fantasy where extracting himself is an afterthought. It’s probably more important to these shooters to get the satisfaction of executing the victims up close and personal, rather than simply effectively assassinating a street rival while minimizing risk of retaliation or capture. Some of them seem to get knocked out of the fantasy when Law Enforcement arrives and they surrender, others have committed suicide or suicide by cop.

Long Was Heavily Involved in His Church & a Former Classmate Said ‘He Wouldn’t Even Cuss’
Long was described as a religious person by a former classmate at Sequoyah High. The 21-year-old graduated in 2017. The classmate said Long’s dad was a pastor, and he had seemed “innocent” and “nerdy.”
“He was very innocent seeming and wouldn’t even cuss,” the classmate told The Daily Beast. “He was sorta nerdy and didn’t seem violent from what I remember. He was a hunter and his father was a youth minister or pastor. He was big into religion.”
Social media posts from the Crabapple First Baptist Church show Long and his family had a lengthy history with the church. Long’s father is not listed as a pastor at the church. The elders of the church released a statement to Heavy.com, saying they were “grieved” and “heartbroken.”
“We are grieved to hear the tragic news about the multiple deaths in the Atlanta area. We are heartbroken for all involved,” the statement said. “We grieve for the victims and their families, and we continue to pray for them. Moreover, we are distraught for the Long family and continue to pray for them as well.”
Posts indicate he attended the church with his mom, dad and his younger sister. His mother organized events at the church, like a movie night with a cotton candy machine.
A Facebook post that has now been deleted included testimony from Long at his baptism in 2018. He said it was the second time he had been baptized.
“As many of you may remember, when I was 8 years old I thought I was becoming a Christian, and got baptized during that time. And I remember a lot of the reason for that is a lot of my friends in my Sunday school class were doing that. And after that time, there wasn’t any fruit from the root that is our salvation,” he said, referencing scripture.
The Bible passage means that a person’s actions should reflect their inner walk with God. He continues, saying he attended a youth group in seventh grade where he heard
the Biblical story about the prodigal son.

“We had the joy of witnessing the baptism of Aaron Long yesterday!,” the church wrote in the now-deleted Facebook post. “Please watch this video to hear his testimony!”
Long was also involved with the church’s Student Ministry Team as recently as 2018, according to minutes from a meeting of the elders. He was one of 11 people who served as team members, which “exists to see students receive Jesus Christ as Lord, and walk in Him, being rooted in the faith.”
The Daily Beast reported an Instagram account that “appeared to belong” to Long professed his love of God and guns.
“Pizza, guns, drums, music, family, and God. This pretty much sums up my life. It’s a pretty good life,” a tagline for the account said.

My wife called 911 over a break in and they told her it’s an insurance matter and to not bother them.

A cop neighbor (black, retired) in my city told me that if I heard a prowler at my house, never call the cops and say ‘there’s a prowler going around my house checking doors and windows’. If I did that, the cops would wait until morning to stop by.
Instead, my neighbor said i should tell the cops, ‘there’s a prowler, and i’m going to get my gun, go outside, and see what’s going on’. If I did that, the cops would tell me to stay inside and would have officers there within 3-7 minutes.

Juvenile detention in my NW state was simply a minor detour for the arrestee. Before leaving the kid at the Hall, the arresting officer is required to make telephone contact with a parent and arrange for the parent to come pick him/her up. Imagine trying to find a parental contact for the typical hoodrat, who usually doesn’t know – or claims not to know – any of his own basic statistical info, such as phone #, DOB, address, etc. And if a “parent” is reachable, imagine the degree of effort they will put into retrieving their wayward chitlin.
And the larger point it – the whole incarceration process is a farce. Where is the deterrent value in simply releasing them to (most likely) Nana ASAP? The only one who “learns a lesson” out of the whole farce is the cop, who learns to avoid the “parenting by 911” process if at all possible.

I think everyone has it all wrong on this “aiming” thing.
If you are a white spree killer, you are probably going into a “permissive” environment where it is very unlikely anyone there would shoot back. Everyone person you are shooting at is someone you intend to harm, and who you intend to harm is everyone you see. Ergo, deadly outcome.
If you are “popup party” shooter, there is probably one or two guys with whom you have a dispute. As to calmly going up and shooting those two guys, you have to remember you are in a “non-permissive” environment. Once you draw, those two or some other guys may start shooting back. It is also not like you want harm everyone there, but once you start shooting, there are all of the factors of not having a clear sight line to a backstop.
So, why don’t you just ambush the two guys without a large number of bystanders getting hurt? What if you don’t have that opportunity? Maybe the only opportunity is when the two people you want to harm are among a large group, taking “cover” among that group. Sure, there will be “collateral” damage, even from a “surgical strike” where you aim well and take care not to harm bystanders.
It is racist to talk about “try aiming” or “don’t hold the gun sideways” or “persons of traditionally underrepresented groups in spree killings are using handguns of too small caliber, underpowered cartridges, and metal-jacketed instead of expanding ammunition.” These guys are doing the best they can given the non-permissive environment and their rules of engagement.
