From Teen Vogue :

“Black Women Best”: The U.S. Economy Benefits When We Center Black Women

This op-ed argues that prioritizing the economic well-being of Black women would create a fairer system for everyone.

BY ANNA GIFTY OPOKU-AGYEMAN

FEBRUARY 1, 2021

… That is why we need Black Women Best, a term coined by Janelle Jones, recently appointed chief economist of the Department of Labor, which calls for an economy in which, as Jones writes, “Black women and [our] needs are centered — [we] are being paid fairly, attaining new levels of education, surviving in hospitals, building wealth, and more.”

From the Roosevelt Institute:

Black Women Best: The Framework We Need for an Equitable Economy
SEPTEMBER 15, 2020

By Kendra Bozarth, Grace Western, Janelle Jones

By making policy and political choices through the lens of “Black women best,” the US can begin not only to rectify its racist and sexist economic structures, but to cultivate an economy in which all people have power, security, dignity, and prosperity—in this crisis and beyond.

The COVID-19 pandemic and resulting economic crisis have cemented an American truth that’s been ignored for too long by too many: Through its policy and political choices, the US continues to prioritize the interests of a wealthy, predominantly white few over the well-being of all its people, but especially over the protection of Black and brown lives.

Our economy was built in large part upon Black women’s diminished power—through unpaid, exploited, and forced labor.

After all, in 2021, cotton makes up, what?, 30% of the U.S. GDP. Or something like that. Janelle Jones is now the Chief Economist of the Department of Labor so she would know this stuff, right?

With Kristen “Melanin Supremacy” Clarke and now Janelle “Black Women Best” Jones, the Biden Administration seems to be trying find the black woman with the funniest one-two punch of racial megalomania and racial inferiority complex.

iSteve commenter International Jew points out:

BA in math from an HBCU, MA in economics from Illinois State, junior analyst jobs since that and now Chief Economist for the US Department of Labor. Nice career move for Janelle Jones.

For comparison, here’s someone who held this job under Bill Clinton: https://scholar.harvard.edu/lkatz/biocv

Lawrence F. Katz is the Elisabeth Allison Professor of Economics at Harvard University and a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research. His research focuses on issues in labor economics and the economics of social problems. He is the author (with Claudia Goldin) of The Race between Education and Technology (Harvard University Press, 2008), a history of U.S. economic inequality and the roles of technological change and the pace of educational advance in affecting the wage structure. …

Professor Katz has been editor of the Quarterly Journal of Economics since 1991 and served as the Chief Economist of the U.S. Department of Labor for 1993 and 1994. He is the co-Scientific Director of J-PAL North America, past President of the Society of Labor Economists, and has been elected a fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Econometric Society, and the Society of Labor Economists. Katz served on the Board of the Russell Sage Foundation and currently serves on the Board of MDRC. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1981 and earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1985.

Democratic Administrations seldom have problems recruiting top academic talent, so for Biden to appoint an MA from Illinois State to Lawrence F. Katz’s old job …

By the way, I don’t see any independent confirmation that the Biden Administration is making this appointment, just PR that flowed from Ms. Jones making this claim on Twitter. So it could be a hoax.

Update: OK, here’s a Washington Post article referring to Ms. Jones as the Chief Economist, so I guess Joe really did it.

They might be independent categories, but they're not mutually exclusive. So I'm sure they'd be more than willing to indulge in both.

But to envy and hatred we can add condescension.

To their Identity Politics partners no less. From the article:

  11. “the US continues to prioritize the interests of a wealthy, predominantly white few over the well-being of all its people, but especially over the protection of Black and brown lives.”

The authors have put some cute sleights of hand in that statement. Note the ‘predominantly’, thereby apparently acknowledging there are wealthy non-white americans, just in case someone points out that none of Biden’s black appointees came from the ghetto. Then they immediately brush past that and emphasise that it’s the black people (and a grudgingly thrown in brown – which of the authors is brown?) who need – not their interests looked after or their well-being prioritised – but to be _protected_. The sentence as a whole is incoherent. It starts off with one topic and ends with another.

none of Biden’s black appointees came from the ghetto.

True enough and both the 'black' President and VP were black by virtue of parents' coming from another country - Obama Kenya and Harris Jamaica. Neither were the 'descendants of US slaves'. Of course, a lot of the AA in the universities came from abroad as well. You'd think that US blacks might have noticed this but I've never seen it mentioned.

Obama - From the Oprah Magazine: His father, Barack Obama Sr., was a successful Kenyan economist, while his mother Ann Dunham was an accomplished American anthropologist.

Harris - From the Oprah Magazine: One important part of her backstory is her biracial African American and Indian-American identity she inherited from her parents, Shyamala Gopalan and Donald Harris, who both immigrated to the United States (from India and Jamaica, respectively) to pursue doctorate degrees at the University of California, Berkeley.

It's a real life Monty Python sketch, except it involves killing a chicken instead of weighing a duck . . .

Inside these camps, a witch's guilt or innocence is often determined not by a jury or a panel of mental health experts, but by the slaughtering of a chicken; if a chicken dies with its feet in the air, the accused woman is formally declared a witch and she is condemned to live out the rest of her natural life as a prisoner.

That link is a keeper, thanks. I was recently revolted by an email from a retailer assuring me that Ghana respected women (I think they were highlighting some stock from there). I knew on general principles that this had to be false but now I know for a fact.

  21. Economic insecurity: More than 68% of Black mothers are the primary breadwinners of their households, and Black women face the most challenges when it comes to paying rent. Understanding that Black women are facing these two realities makes it painfully obvious that a one-time stimulus check is not enough to cover basic living necessities for anyone.

Good lord liberals what kind of a dumb world did you create.

Moving forward, the College Board must also think deliberately and responsibly about its treatment of international students. With the removal of the SAT essay and Subject Tests, international students have been stripped of one of the few metrics through which they could be plainly compared to American students. If the College Board insists on retaining AP tests, they should ensure their availability for international students who often don’t have access to AP curriculums or exams within their high schools and increase their accessibility for those who cannot afford the even higher testing fee of $135 for students outside of the United States and Canada.

"the US continues to prioritize the interests of a wealthy, predominantly white few over the well-being of all its people, but especially over the protection of Black and brown lives."

The authors have put some cute sleights of hand in that statement. Note the 'predominantly', thereby apparently acknowledging there are wealthy non-white americans, just in case someone points out that none of Biden's black appointees came from the ghetto. Then they immediately brush past that and emphasise that it's the black people (and a grudgingly thrown in brown - which of the authors is brown?) who need - not their interests looked after or their well-being prioritised - but to be _protected_. The sentence as a whole is incoherent. It starts off with one topic and ends with another.

none of Biden’s black appointees came from the ghetto.

True enough and both the ‘black’ President and VP were black by virtue of parents’ coming from another country – Obama Kenya and Harris Jamaica. Neither were the ‘descendants of US slaves’. Of course, a lot of the AA in the universities came from abroad as well. You’d think that US blacks might have noticed this but I’ve never seen it mentioned.

Obama – From the Oprah Magazine: His father, Barack Obama Sr., was a successful Kenyan economist, while his mother Ann Dunham was an accomplished American anthropologist.

Harris – From the Oprah Magazine: One important part of her backstory is her biracial African American and Indian-American identity she inherited from her parents, Shyamala Gopalan and Donald Harris, who both immigrated to the United States (from India and Jamaica, respectively) to pursue doctorate degrees at the University of California, Berkeley.

    http://www.bizarrejournal.com/2020/09/the-witch-camps-of-ghana.html

It’s a real life Monty Python sketch, except it involves killing a chicken instead of weighing a duck . . .

Inside these camps, a witch’s guilt or innocence is often determined not by a jury or a panel of mental health experts, but by the slaughtering of a chicken; if a chicken dies with its feet in the air, the accused woman is formally declared a witch and she is condemned to live out the rest of her natural life as a prisoner.

Steve, are you here? I just saw a copy of National Geographic's special issue on the shelf at Walgreens. The cover title, "Most Influential Figures in Ancient History." And the cover is graced by, oh the horror, "Augustus Caesar, First Emperor of Rome." A white guy in full Roman legion garb.Is this a spoof ? For those who don't know, the new editor of Nat Geo is Susan Goldberg, who famously introduced herself as the ..."first woman and first Jewish person to be editor of National Geographic." Goldberg then set about, in a long editorial to describe how racist NG had been and that race was a social construct and how sad it was tha NG had printed photos of "uncivilized natives" and never again would a Polynesian woman be pictured just to show their beauty, yada, yada, yada. I don't know who the featured ancients are because I didn't page through the magazine, didn't want to see all those bare breasted "native" women....wait, I am being handed a note. Let’s hope any secession process within the US doesn’t resemble Pakistan’s. It was a bloodbath…

If you wanted to take a successful country of a people and create the conditions for a bloodbath, what would be done any differently than what's happened to America over the past 100 years? I don't desire a bloodbath, but it's a better option than my people ending up like the Amalekites.

My dream would be for Black Women Best to create fabulous nations in Africa which the media can endlessly trumpet at about the same time as the EBT runs dry and Wakanda Airlines handles the resulting airlift from the collapsed USA while the brown hordes retreat south of the border to escape the Chinese press gangs, our (((elites))) having already evacuated to Beijing once the DigiYuan became the reserve currency. Such are the odds of a peaceful denouement.
